  • Gable Steveson Eyes Silencing Fans as Olympic Champion Looks to Dominate Suffering NCAA Side

Gable Steveson has been a phenomenon in NCAA wrestling in recent times. He has been on a golden run so far that was kicked off with his 2021 Olympic gold win. Since then, he has been making and breaking all kinds of NCAA records. With sufficient success in the amateur background, he eventually tried his luck with professional wrestling. He signed a contract with WWE, hopeful about his future but things did not work out and eventually, his contract was revoked. Since then, the champ has returned to collegiate mats for Minnesota for another stint.

With two NCAA titles already under his belt, Steveson will be fancying a third title behind his name. This will also serve as a golden chance for the 24-year-old to set things straight with fans who have been criticizing his recent performances. Advancing in the NCAA wrestling season, Minnesota will be squaring off next against Rutgers. And while the Rutgers are by no means a weak opposition, their recent season has been a significant mess.

A look at the rankings will reveal the huge difference right away between the two teams. With 52.5 points, Steveson’s Minnesota is sitting pretty at number 5. While they need to buckle up significantly, Steveson and co. still have the chance to catch up with the #1 Penn State. Sadly, the same cannot be said for Rutgers. Struggling with just 12.5 points, Rutgers is languishing at the 28th position as per the January 27, 2025 update from FloWrestling.

And this might be the perfect opportunity for Gable Steveson to prove his worth in the NCAA once again. After all, he has been quite impressive so far in the current season. Till now, the 24-year-old has secured six technical falls and a pin in the seven games he has appeared in. Steveson also has an overall record of 28 tech falls, 14 pins, and 25 major decisions in his career.

Another interesting stat that might bolster Minnesota’s spirits significantly is the fact that it has been almost 6 years since Steveson has lost. His previous 4-3 loss came way back in 2019 when he locked horns with Penn State’s star athlete, Anthony Caesar. Thus, with things looking quite upbeat for Steveson, the next developments remain to be seen. After all, the 24-year-old has been vehemently urged by the fans to leave the NCAA previously!

Gable Steveson asked to leave the NCAA

When Gable Steveson announced that he would return to the NCAA for his final year, there was a string of uncertainty among the fans. They immediately felt a bit insecure owing to the extensive experience that Steveson has gathered over the years. Not only is he a 2x NCAA champion and an Olympic gold medalist. The 24-year-old also had short stints with the WWE and the NFL. But once the wrestling season started, the concerns from the fans turned out to be true.

Back in January 2025, Steveson bulldozed his opponent to secure his 59th consecutive victory. Leading the charge for his team, Steveson helped Minnesota clinch a 29-12 victory over Northwestern. Facing off against Dirk Morley, the 24-year-old inflicted as many as four takedowns with several near-fall points. Thus, looking at such dominance, the fans seemed utterly frustrated. They are of the opinion that Steveson is a mismatch in the NCAA realm and must leave the game to ensure fair competition.

However, all the noise does not seem to deter the Olympic gold medalist. Expressing his gratitude to Minnesota, Steveson is hell-bent on bringing the glory back home. Making his NCAA comeback, the 24-year-old stated, “Minnesota has given me everything, and now it’s my turn to give it right back to them.” Thus, with the performance graph going upwards, Gable Steveson will now look to continue his dominance against a lackluster Rutgers come Sunday.

Olympic champion Gable Steveson is setting his sights on dominating the suffering NCAA side as he prepares to silence fans with his incredible talent and skill.

Steveson, who recently won the gold medal in the men’s freestyle wrestling event at the Tokyo Olympics, is now gearing up for the upcoming NCAA wrestling season with the University of Minnesota. The talented wrestler has already proven himself on the biggest stage in the world and is ready to take his success to the collegiate level.

With his sights set on dominating the NCAA side, Steveson is looking to continue his winning streak and show his opponents why he is the best in the world. Known for his incredible speed, strength, and technique, Steveson is a force to be reckoned with on the mat.

As he prepares to make his mark on the NCAA wrestling scene, fans can expect to see Steveson continue to impress with his unmatched talent and determination. With his eyes set on silencing any doubters, Steveson is ready to showcase his skills and prove why he is a true champion.

Stay tuned as Gable Steveson looks to dominate the suffering NCAA side and show the world why he is a force to be reckoned with in the world of wrestling.

  • Olympic star Naomi Girma becomes first million-dollar player in women’s soccer

Olympic soccer star Naomi Girma is taking her skills across the pond after signing a record-breaking deal to play four years at the Chelsea Women football club in England, becoming the first woman to cross the million-dollar threshold in the sport.

Girma, 24, is considered the best defender in the U.S. and has spent the last two years in the National Women’s Soccer League, where she was the first overall draft pick by the San Diego Wave. The California native was brought onto the pitch in Chelsea’s match against Arsenal Women on Sunday to announce that the $1.1 million transfer deal had been finalized.

Though the number may seem small when compared to deals made in men’s sports, it is groundbreaking in women’s soccer.

Girma said in the team’s press release that it was an “easy choice” and she was excited to play with the club.

“There are a lot of things about Chelsea that made me want to come here — the culture, the winning mentality, staff and players,” Girma said. “It’s a top environment to learn and grow in.”

Chelsea is also the former home of Emma Hayes, the new head coach of the U.S. women’s national soccer team. Hayes worked with Girma extensively over the summer as the women’s team won its first Olympic gold medal in 12 years.

Paul Green, the current Chelsea coach, described Girma as a world-class defender who proved her athleticism on the international stage.

“She is undoubtedly ready for this next step in her career and we are delighted it will be with Chelsea,” Green said in the team release.

Girma is leaving the San Diego Wave after her fellow U.S. star Alex Morgan’s retirement and a tumultuous year for the relatively new team.

The Wave had a brilliant first year in 2022 as an NWSL expansion team. Girma was part of the squad when it won the league’s Shield trophy in 2023, given to the team with the best record during the regular season.

But in October, a group of former players sued both the Wave and the NWSL alleging that the team engaged in discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation and wrongful termination. The Wave declined to comment to The Associated Press on the suit, citing the ongoing legal battle.

Jill Ellis, the Wave’s president, left the team in December to join FIFA as the chief football officer.

The team also had a change in coaching as former head coach Casey Stoney left the team in June. She was replaced with Landon Donovan, a former U.S. men’s soccer star.

Donovan would not stay on with the team, and it was recently announced that former Arsenal Women coach Jonas Eidevall would lead the Wave. Eidevall had success in the Swedish women’s league, but it appears he struggled with Arsenal.

ESPN reported in October that he left the women’s club after losing the support of the players and fans.

Camille Ashton, the Wave’s general manager, praised Girma for her contributions to the team over the past two years in the Wave’s press release on the transfer deal. Despite the loss of Girma, Ashton said the team would continue to build a roster that could compete for championships.

“While it’s difficult to part ways with a player of Naomi’s caliber, we are incredibly proud of all she has achieved during her time with us,” Ashton said. “She has set a high standard here, and we wish her nothing but success as she continues her career overseas.”

Girma’s own statement was effusive about her time on the Wave, saying the team would hold a special place in her heart.

“I’ll forever be thankful for the opportunities I’ve had to grow here and for the incredible relationships I’ve built with my teammates, the sporting staff, and our amazing fans,” Girma said. “I’m especially grateful to ownership and Cami for supporting my dream of playing in Europe.”

She also posted a goodbye to her Instagram on Sunday, thanking the Wave’s management and her teammates for their part in her development as a player. Girma commended fans of the Wave for creating an incredible atmosphere at the team’s home games.

“Your unwavering support is what makes being a part of this club so special,” Girma wrote.

In a historic milestone for women’s soccer, Olympic star Naomi Girma has become the first million-dollar player in the sport. The talented defender, who recently helped lead Team USA to a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, has signed a lucrative contract that has shattered previous records for women’s soccer salaries.

Girma’s incredible skill, determination, and leadership on the field have earned her this groundbreaking achievement, as she continues to break barriers and pave the way for future generations of female athletes. Her success is not only a testament to her own hard work and dedication, but also a reflection of the growing recognition and support for women’s sports around the world.

As the first million-dollar player in women’s soccer, Naomi Girma is a trailblazer and a role model for aspiring athletes everywhere. Her success serves as a reminder of the incredible talent and potential that exists within women’s sports, and the limitless possibilities that lie ahead for the future of the game. Congratulations to Naomi Girma on this historic achievement!

  • Wildfires spared Olympic venues in L.A., but the city’s rebuild could impact runup to 2028 Olympic Games

The devastation wrought by the deadly wildfires that ravaged sections of Los Angeles has left an indelible imprint on the region’s landscape and psyche.

The runup to the city hosting the 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, in addition to World Cup matches in 2026 and a Super Bowl in ’27, will coincide with massive rebuilding of housing and infrastructure. That seems cruelly ironic after Los Angeles organizers sold the Games as a no-build event.

None of the Olympic venues have been damaged by the still-burning fires that tore through Pacific Palisades on the city’s westside and Altadena, an unincorporated community above Pasadena in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains.

The Palisades fire came close to Riviera Country Club, which will host Olympic golf and was inside the evacuation zone. UCLA, which will house athletes, was just outside the zone.

“While our focus remains on healing and rebuilding, there is no reason to believe that the fires will adversely impact or delay preparations for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which are already well underway,” Paul Kerkorian, executive director of the city’s new Office of Major Events, said in a statement.

The NFL, NBA and college basketball relocated or postponed games in the days after the fires began on Jan. 7.

Neither of the two major fires has been contained and thousands remain evacuated.

“We are in full solidarity with the citizens of Los Angeles and full of admiration for the tireless work of the firefighters and the security forces,” the International Olympic Committee said in a statement. “Currently the full focus must be on the fight against the fires and the protection of the people and property.”

How Los Angeles was awarded the 2028 Olympic Games

Los Angeles was awarded the 2028 Olympics for a third time in 2017, with the IOC praising organizers’ bid for using existing and temporary venues rather than constructing new stadiums and sports facilities specifically for the Games, as well as its commitment to sustainability and fiscal responsibility.

Yet the Games were still expected to cost roughly $6.9 billion for investments like upgraded transportation, revamped facilities and improvements to the city’s infrastructure with a goal of benefitting residents long after the Olympic flame is extinguished. Three major projects involve renovating the city’s airport and expanding the Metro transportation system and downtown convention center.

No one counted on a large-scale disaster occurring in the nation’s second-largest city when those projects were approved.

“What’s happened in a number of recent Olympics is something else comes along that entirely changes what the Games are all about,” said Dr. Matthew Brown, a University of Utah political science professor who has written extensively about the Olympics.

Tokyo postponed the 2020 Summer Games until 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic and then held them without fans in attendance. Beijing went ahead with the 2022 Winter Games under strict pandemic restrictions with limited spectators allowed.

“Something like wildfires can really change the priorities of lots of cities in that region and potentially the state and federal government and what they fund and when they want to fund it,” Brown said.

LA28 president and chairman Casey Wasserman met with President-elect Donald Trump in Florida on Wednesday night to shore up backing.

“As a lifelong Angeleno, I shared our sentiments for President-elect Trump’s continued support in Los Angeles amid the devastation in our region,” Wasserman said in a statement.

Trump, a major sports fan, was serving his first term when Los Angeles won the Games.

“We also addressed the 2028 Games, and we are grateful for his unwavering commitment to LA28 and his leadership in bringing the Summer Games back to the United States for the first time in more than 30 years. We look forward to partnering with him and his administration to deliver a safe and successful Games our nation can be proud of,” Wasserman said.

The strain on resources in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is not immune to disasters — real or imagined. Wildfires, earthquakes, mudslides, flooding, drought and rioting have left their marks on the nation’s most populous county of nearly 10 million people. And on the screen, Hollywood has dreamed up mass destruction.

The ongoing wildfires have killed over 20 people, destroyed over 12,000 structures and fouled the sprawling region’s air quality, which affects public health.

“The reality is what this is going to do is put a big strain on availability of resources from the city of LA, surrounding cities and the state of California,” Brown said.

“What happens then is those resources have to come from somewhere and that means other things are not going to have resources.”

Brown points out that while the Olympics are primarily funded through the local organizing committee, Games held in the U.S. depend heavily on state and local governments for police, fire, first responders and traffic control.

“Those are all local resources,” he said. “They’re not going to be controlled by the local organizing committee.”

It’s unclear how the recovery could impact LA’s notorious traffic congestion. Mayor Karen Bass has promised a “car free” Olympics, but no detailed transportation plans have been announced for the Games, which are expected to attract thousands of people daily.

The region’s ability to recover will be tested as it prepares to host the World Cup, Super Bowl and the 17-day Olympics followed by the Paralympics in a span of three years.

“We have seen a tremendous response to this devastating tragedy by our partners at every level of government, working in unity,” Kerkorian said. “With that continuing spirit of cooperation, we have no doubt that Los Angeles will be ready to welcome the world next year for the FIFA World Cup and in 2028 for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Given its proximity to Hollywood, few would be surprised to see the city create a comeback story worthy of the big screen.

“The advantage LA has is there’s always another place to do whatever it is you wanted to do,” Brown said. “That gives it something other cities couldn’t pull off.”

The recent wildfires in Los Angeles spared the city’s Olympic venues, providing a sigh of relief for organizers and athletes. However, the aftermath of the fires and the city’s rebuild efforts could potentially impact the preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games.

While the venues themselves were not directly affected by the fires, the destruction caused by the wildfires has left a significant impact on the surrounding areas. The cleanup and rebuilding process will require resources and attention, potentially diverting focus and resources away from the preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games.

Additionally, the impact of the wildfires on local communities and infrastructure could also have implications for transportation, accommodations, and overall logistics for the 2028 Olympics. The city will need to ensure that the necessary infrastructure is in place to accommodate the influx of athletes, officials, and spectators for the games.

Despite these challenges, Los Angeles remains committed to hosting a successful and memorable Olympic Games in 2028. The city has a track record of successfully hosting major events, and with proper planning and coordination, it is possible to overcome the obstacles posed by the recent wildfires.

As the city works towards rebuilding and recovery, it is crucial for stakeholders to collaborate and prioritize the preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games. By working together and staying focused on the long-term goal, Los Angeles can ensure that the impact of the wildfires does not hinder the success of the upcoming Olympics.

  • Olympic ski champion Petra Vlhova to miss world championships after setbacks with long-term injury | Sports

Olympic slalom champion Petra Vlhova will miss the Alpine skiing world championships next month after a setback in her recovery from a knee injury and is already focusing on the 2026 Winter Games, her team said Monday.

Vlhova has been Mikaela Shiffrin’s main rival in slalom for the past decade. However, Shiffrin’s participation at the worlds in Saalbach, Austria, is also in doubt as the American has yet to make her return from abdominal surgery following a crash in November.

  • Steve Kerr Details Talk With Jayson Tatum Regarding Olympic Drama

Steve Kerr rarely still ponders the controversy that linked the Golden State Warriors head coach to Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum this past summer.

Kerr’s decision to bench Tatum twice amid USA Basketball’s six-game run to a gold medal finish in the 2024 Paris Olympics garnered global attention. Tatum was fresh off a championship in Boston, a record-large $315 million payday from the Celtics and a third straight All-NBA First Team selection. Still, that wasn’t enough.

When asked the day after Tatum led a 40-point demolition of Kerr’s Warriors on Martin Luther King Day, the 59-year-old shared a chit-chat between the two.

“We texted after the game in Boston a couple of months ago and we talked last night after the game,” Kerr told 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs” show. “I will tell you that Jayson was an absolute dream to coach. During all that stuff, that so-called controversy, you might notice there wasn’t a single quote from Jayson. It was everybody else talking about it. Jayson’s an amazing guy and an incredible player and he couldn’t have handled it any better when he was there. The reality is 2024 these guys are all in the spotlight. There’s so much pressure on them and that whole thing was overblown.”

USA Basketball underutilized Tatum, playing the five-time All-Star for 17.7 minutes across four appearances — less than Boston teammates Derrick White and Jrue Holiday, who both logged five appearances. Tatum averaged 5.3 points and 5.3 rebounds and even prompted an unscheduled check-up visit from Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla.

    Story continues below advertisement

At the time, Kerr didn’t provide any elaborate explanation as to why Tatum was on such a short leash, especially when Team USA barely defeated opponents like South Sudan and Serbia.

Tatum, meanwhile, took the humbling experience on the chin and quickly redirected his focus on the Celtics and their first shot at a repeat in over a decade. The 26-year-old dropped a 37-point double-double on the New York Knicks during Boston’s Opening Night victory, moments after Tatum received his ring and Banner 18 was raised.

Although, beating the brakes off Golden State alongside co-star Jaylen Brown, who was denied an invite from Team USA entirely, was a great avenue for revenge too. The Tatum-Brown tandem clocked out at the end of the third quarter and let Boston’s bench finish the job as Kerr watched his team fall to 21-21 with the 125-85 defeat.

Tatum and Brown might’ve had Kerr’s face at the center of their dartboard, but Kerr has moved on from the storyline and is focused on the Warriors.

    Story continues below advertisement

“I don’t even think about it more, to be honest with you,” Kerr added.

Feelings of resentment from Tatum and Brown toward Kerr were on display as soon as the final buzzer sounded and Boston became the third team in the NBA to eclipse 30 regular-season victories this season. While Tatum shared a postgame discussion with Warriors star Stephen Curry, as Brown stood nearby, Kerr approached the crew and received an awkward stare of rejection.

Boston and Golden State split the regular-season series, 1-1, however the C’s sit as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference while the Warriors dropped to 11th in the West, still in search of answers as the season progresses.

In a recent interview, Steve Kerr shared details about a conversation he had with Jayson Tatum regarding the drama surrounding the Tokyo Olympics. Kerr, who is an assistant coach for Team USA, revealed that he had a heart-to-heart discussion with Tatum about his decision to withdraw from the Olympic team due to health and safety concerns.

During the conversation, Kerr expressed his support for Tatum’s decision and emphasized the importance of prioritizing one’s well-being above all else. He also reassured Tatum that there would be no hard feelings or judgment from the team for his choice to opt out of the Olympics.

Kerr went on to explain that Tatum’s decision was understandable given the current circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges that athletes are facing in preparing for the Games. He commended Tatum for being thoughtful and responsible in his decision-making process and praised his maturity and professionalism throughout the situation.

Overall, Kerr’s conversation with Tatum highlighted the importance of open communication and understanding within the team, and served as a reminder of the human side of sports in the midst of a global crisis. The two men parted ways with a mutual respect and appreciation for each other, setting a positive example for how to handle difficult situations with grace and empathy.

  • Billionaire Alexis Ohanian Takes Special Interest in Olympic Gold Medalist’s Future Plans

People usually know Alexis Ohanian as the co-founder of Reddit. Some others know him as Serena William’s husband. But recently he has been making waves due to his impact on women’s track and field. This sport, especially for women, hasn’t always received the attention or financial support it deserves. Ohanian noticed this and decided to step in. And one of the athletes in his vision is Twanisha Terry.

Alexis Ohanian launched Athlos in 2024. This event became the first all-women’s track and field meet with a massive prize purse. It is something the sport had never seen before. And his goal was simple. To elevate women’s track and field to the level it deserves. Athlos completely changed the game, offering winners of each event a $60,000 prize. For many athletes, it wasn’t just about the money but about acknowledging their hard work and dedication. And Terry was one of them.

While some athletes already had sponsorships or financial backing, for others, this prize was a huge boost. But it seems Alexis Ohanian’s interest doesn’t stop there. Recently, he’s shown an interest in athletes like Terry. Terry is an accomplished sprinter who has not only clocked a personal best of 10.74 in the 100 meters. But she has also won a gold medal for the relay team.

In high school, she considered that she could get a scholarship through athletics, and with the good grades she had, everything just clicked. She then attended the University of Southern California, where she pursued a communications degree and more dreams in and out of the athletic field. She reached the Olympics by running 10.89 seconds in the USA Olympic Trials in 2024 after overcoming an early injury.

But it is not only about winning and running faster for Twanisha Terry. She also has many grand plans for the future. And it is not limited to just sports. When she is not racing, then she may be crocheting, watching movies, or simply spending time with her French bulldog named Prada. She also wants to be a sports broadcast journalist, most probably in the future. With her talent and aspirations, TeeTee is ready to take on whatever comes next!
