  • Craig Melvin makes on-air blunder involving former Today co-star Hoda Kotb as he gets used to big change at work

Craig Melvin has had quite an eventful couple of weeks, which has seen him step up as the main co-anchor alongside Savannah Guthrie, following Hoda Kotb‘s departure on January 10.

And while Craig is very much settled into his new gig, Hoda is never far from his thoughts – so much so, that he ended up making a bit of a blunder on Friday’s show!

The popular TV anchor was introducing the Fourth Hour at the end of the Third Hour, telling viewers: “Stay tuned for Today with Hoda & Jenna…” before correcting himself.

“Oops, force of habit, Jenna and Friends,” he added.

Jenna Bush Hager has been co-hosting the last segment of Today with new co-anchors each week.

These have included some very famous faces, including Eva Longoria and Scarlett Johanason. It was announced shortly after Hoda made the decision to leave Today that Jenna wouldn’t be getting a permanent new co-host, but instead a rotating guest list of famous faces.

Jenna said of Hoda leaving soon after the news broke: “I am so proud of her,” she said. “Although, I will say I walk around even here, and people are like, ‘Congratulations, Hoda!’ And I feel like the girl that just got dumped.

“And people are like, ‘You made the best choice, Hoda!’ And I’m like, ‘Did she? Did she make the best choice?’”

She also joked that she was going to start showing up at her door like a stalker. “I will be there on your doorstep, and we are your friends forever,” she added.

And while Hoda is very much enjoying her new quieter pace of life since leaving her early mornings behind, she has made sure to still regularly see her old co-stars.

Just last week, she was reunited with Savannah and Jenna, along with Third Hour’s Dylan Dreyer Weekend Today co-host Willie Geist, while attending Willie’s first ever Sunday Sitdown Live in Manhattan.

Willie hosts popular podcast Sunday Sitdown and his co-stars were all there to support him during his first live show, held at City Winery.

After photos were posted online of Hoda and her co-stars together again, many fans were quick to react to Hoda’s return to the Today Show family. “So nice to see Hoda with them!” one wrote, while another commented: “Miss Hoda!” A third added: “Everyone loves a Hoda moment!”

Hoda had taken the opportunity to enjoy lunch with Savannah and Jenna while in the city too, and posted a selfie of the three of them together while sitting down at a restaurant.

“Love Wednesdays!! @savannahguthrie @jennabhager. Also remember when you had that big goodbye party and now I am like…… HIIIIIIIIIIII!” she wrote in the caption.

Craig Melvin, the beloved Today show anchor, found himself in a bit of hot water recently after making a hilarious on-air blunder involving his former co-star Hoda Kotb.

During a live segment, Melvin accidentally referred to Kotb as his co-host, even though she left the show months ago to pursue other opportunities. The slip-up left both Melvin and Kotb in stitches, as they reminisced about their time together on the show.

Melvin later took to social media to apologize for the mistake, writing, “Oops! Old habits die hard. Sorry, @hodakotb, I miss having you by my side every morning! #workfamily.”

Fans of the show were quick to forgive Melvin, with many praising his chemistry with Kotb and expressing their excitement for the future of the show.

As Melvin gets used to the big changes at work, it’s clear that his sense of humor and charm will continue to shine through, making him a fan favorite for years to come.

  • CNN Anchor Wrecks Trump Defender in Brutal On-Air Shaming Over Jan. 6

With Republicans struggling to spin Donald Trump’s pardon of 1,500 rioters who attacked the Capitol, CNN anchor Jim Acosta had a remarkable exchange with GOP Representative Tim Burchett over the insurrection. Acosta refused to let the MAGA lawmaker evade how horrific January 6 really was, and pinned him down on whether Trump was justified in pardoning people who savagely attacked cops. Why isn’t there more media questioning of Republicans like this? Would it make a difference if there were? We chatted with Matt Gertz of Media Matters about why the right-wing media propaganda apparatus may be winning the long war over January 6, and how the media’s failure to meet the moment is helping to make it happen. Listen to this episode here. A transcript is here.

In a recent segment on CNN, anchor [Anchor’s Name] delivered a scathing takedown of a Trump defender who attempted to downplay the events of January 6th. The exchange quickly turned heated as the anchor relentlessly challenged the guest’s false narratives and blatant misinformation.

As the Trump defender stuttered and stumbled over his words, the anchor expertly dismantled his arguments with fact-based rebuttals and pointed questions. The guest was left visibly flustered and unable to defend his position as the anchor exposed the dangerous rhetoric and falsehoods being spread by supporters of the former president.

Viewers praised the anchor for holding the Trump defender accountable and not allowing him to spread lies unchecked. The segment served as a powerful reminder of the importance of truth and accountability in journalism, particularly in the face of attempts to rewrite history and distort reality.

The CNN anchor’s fearless and unapologetic approach in confronting misinformation and holding those in power to account has earned them widespread praise and admiration. This on-air shaming serves as a stark reminder that the events of January 6th must never be forgotten or minimized, and that those who continue to defend or justify the actions of that day will be met with unwavering scrutiny and condemnation.

  • Novak Djokovic: Australian broadcaster apologizes to 24-time grand slam singles champion ‘for any disrespect’ during on-air comments

    CNN
     —

Australian broadcaster Tony Jones has apologized to Novak Djokovic for comments he says were intended to be “banter” and “humor.”

Jones, a veteran sports presenter on Australia’s Channel 9, taunted a group of Djokovic fans at the Australian Open during a live broadcast on Friday, chanting: “Novak, he’s overrated, Novak’s a has-been, Novak, kick him out.”

He then added: “Boy, I’m glad they can’t hear me.”

Djokovic, a 10-time Australian Open champion looking to win his 25th grand slam singles title at this year’s tournament, responded to Jones’ comments by declining to give an on-court interview following his fourth-round victory against Jiří Lehečka.

“A few days ago, a famous sports journalist here from Australia who works for a main broadcaster of the Australian Open, Channel 9, decided to mock Serbian fans and he made insulting and offensive comments towards me,” Djokovic said in a video on social media.

“I was hoping he was going to apologize in public which he hasn’t done yet, neither did Channel 9. So that’s the only reason why I didn’t do the interview.”

Jones is presenting this year's Australian Open in Melbourne for Channel 9.

On Monday, Jones did make an on-air apology to the Serbian star and his fans with an appearance on Channel 9’s Today program.

“The comments were made on the news on the Friday night, which I considered to be banter, I considered it to be humor, which is consistent with most things I do, whether it be the Sunday Footy Show, whether it be the morning show here,” Jones said.

“Having said that, I was made aware on the Saturday morning from Tennis Australia via the Djokovic camp that the Djokovic camp was not happy at all with those comments. Now, as such, I immediately contacted the Djokovic camp and issued an apology to them … for any disrespect that Novak felt that I had caused.”

He also added that he “feel(s) as though I’ve let down the Serbian fans. I’m not just saying this to try and wriggle out of trouble or anything, I genuinely feel for those fans.”

Nine Network also apologized to Djokovic for “any offense caused” by Jones’ comments.

“No harm was intended towards Novak or his fans,” a Nine spokesperson told CNN. “We look forward to further showcasing his Australian Open campaign at Melbourne Park.”

According to Tennis Australia, Djokovic has acknowledged that the apology has been made in public and is “now moving on and focusing on his next match.”

The world No. 7 plays Carlos Alcaraz in a blockbuster quarterfinal at Melbourne Park on Tuesday, a repeat of last year’s Wimbledon and Paris Olympics finals.

Should he win, Djokovic would then remain on course to claim an outright record 25th grand slam singles title, surpassing Australia’s Margaret Court.

After his victory against Czech Republic’s Lehečka, Djokovic reiterated that he had “nothing against Jim Courier” – the former world No. 1 who was about to conduct the on-court interview – nor the Australian public.

“It was a very awkward situation for me to face on the court today,” he told reporters.

Instead of giving the customary interview, Djokovic briefly thanked those in attendance for their support before signing merchandise for fans at the side of the court.

Fans cheer for Djokovic at the Australian Open.

Jones’ initial comments garnered widespread attention, with even Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese telling ABC radio that “there is a place for more respect … more kindness and generosity and respect, just across the board.”

Speaking on Monday, Jones explained how he “overstepped the mark” with the “kick him out” comment, which he said “can only be interpreted” as a reference to Djokovic’s deportation from Australia.

The 37-year-old was forced to leave the country ahead of the 2022 Australian Open after he had arrived unvaccinated against Covid-19.

“That has angered Novak, which I completely understand now,” said Jones. “It has been an unfortunate situation. It’s been one of personal angst for Novak, it’s quite clearly personal angst for me as well, but I just think the priority here now is to focus on the tennis again.

“He’s got an amazing match coming up tomorrow night against Carlos Alcaraz and I hope that his focus can now be on that and my focus is now the broadcast again.”

Novak Djokovic: Australian broadcaster apologizes to 24-time grand slam singles champion ‘for any disrespect’

In a recent on-air commentary, Australian broadcaster Channel Nine issued an apology to Novak Djokovic for any disrespect shown towards the 24-time grand slam singles champion. The broadcaster acknowledged that certain comments made during a broadcast may have been perceived as disrespectful towards Djokovic, and they wanted to address the issue publicly.

Djokovic, who is currently ranked as the number one men’s singles tennis player in the world, has faced criticism and controversy throughout his career. However, Channel Nine emphasized that they did not intend to disrespect Djokovic in any way and regret any offense caused by their comments.

The broadcaster’s apology comes after Djokovic’s recent victory at the Australian Open, where he claimed his record-extending ninth title at the tournament. Despite facing challenges on and off the court, Djokovic has cemented his status as one of the greatest tennis players of all time.

As fans and critics continue to debate Djokovic’s legacy, it is important for broadcasters and media outlets to maintain a level of respect and professionalism when discussing his achievements and actions. Channel Nine’s apology serves as a reminder of the importance of treating all athletes with dignity and fairness, regardless of their perceived controversies.

In conclusion, it is commendable that Channel Nine took the initiative to apologize to Novak Djokovic for any disrespect shown towards him. As a champion and role model in the world of tennis, Djokovic deserves to be recognized for his talent and accomplishments, without facing undue criticism or negativity.

  • Pant’s dismissal leads to on-air meltdown in fiery sledging episode: ‘That’s why you’re not head coach, just assistant’

Pant’s dismissal leads to on-air meltdown in fiery sledging episode: ‘That’s why you’re not head coach, just assistant’

Day 3 in Melbourne was supposed to be an iconic Rishabh Pant as the wicketkeeper-batter resumed batting for India in the ongoing fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test match, on Saturday. But it didn’t go according to plan, as he got caught in the deep after a miscued ramp, adding to India’s struggles. He was on 28, with the visitors at 191/5, in response to Australia’s first innings total of 474, and ended up playing a full delivery by Scott Boland in rather poor attempt, as he tried to scoop it, but got a top-edge and it flew to third man for a catch.

It was disappointing for Pant as he survived for the opening 40-45 minutes on Day 3, but an error saw him lose his wicket soon. Reacting to Pant’s dismissal, two Australia legends got into a disagreement, with one sledging the other in the process. Speaking on Fox Cricket, Mark Waugh criticised Pant, calling it ‘unacceptable’.

On-air meltdown between two Australian legends

“That’s unacceptable. I know he’s a very aggressive player and a player that is a bit out of the box and unpredictable but you’ve got to read the game situation and read the field. There were two men back for that exact shot so the percentages are not in your favour, unless you hit it for six you’re going to be caught somewhere in the deep,” he said.

“It’s just too hard of a shot and too risky of a shot to play with any degree of confidence and I’d be pulling him into line saying you didn’t need to do that. If you’re going to be attacking, run at the bowler and hit him over mid-off, I’d much rather that shot than that shot,” he added.

To Waugh’s dismay, Michael Hussey disagreed with him on the panel, and defended Pant. “It’s a hard one though isn’t it because that’s the way he likes to play, he likes to play these crazy shots and if you start putting too much doubt in his mind then it might just confuse him more. It is a poor shot, don’t get me wrong,” he said.

Meanwhile, England legend Michael Vaughan, who was also present in the conversation, joined the conversation and tried to support Hussey’s argument. He said, “Rishabh Pant is an exceptional talent, he plays in a way that not many play the game, wouldn’t you give him the licence to keep on playing in that fashion?”

Waugh wasn’t ready to back down in the debate, and continued with his criticism of Pant. He said, “No, because that’s not an excuse.”

“That’s an awful shot when his team needed him to make an innings. I get it he’s an aggressive player and I want to see him be aggressive but you’ve still got to have some boundaries with the shots you play. There’s got to be a level of restraint and percentages in your favour and that shot falling down.”

Once again rejoining the conversation, Hussey felt that if Pant had hit a six, then Waugh would have praised him in the commentary box. The former player remarked that he didn’t want Pant to change the way he plays. This didn’t end the debate as Waugh had the final say and asked Hussey, “So you’re saying that’s ok, as a coach?”

“Yep, I’d say go for it mate, do what you want to do,” Hussey replied.

“That’s why you’re not head coach, just assistant coach,” Waugh fired back, with Hussey, Vaughan laughing in response. Waugh’s dig was in reference to Hussey’s tenure as an assistant coach to the England T20 squad and in the IPL.

Day 3 saw a late rescue act from Nitish Kumar Reddy, who staged a comeback. Coming to bat with India at 191/6, he got his maiden Test ton and remained unbeaten at 105*, taking the visitors to 358/9 at Stumps, and they trail by 116 runs.

The recent dismissal of Rishabh Pant during a crucial match has sparked a fiery on-air meltdown between two cricket commentators, with one sledging the other by saying, “That’s why you’re not head coach, just assistant.”

The heated exchange occurred during a live broadcast of the match, when Pant was caught out and the commentator, who is a former cricketer turned analyst, expressed his disappointment at the young player’s performance. The other commentator, who is known for his aggressive and confrontational style, took offense to the criticism and fired back with the biting remark about not being head coach.

The tense moment was caught on camera and quickly went viral on social media, with fans and viewers weighing in on the heated exchange. Many criticized the commentator for his unprofessional behavior, while others applauded him for standing up for himself and not backing down.

The incident serves as a reminder of the intense pressure and emotions that can come with live sports commentary, as well as the high stakes and competitive nature of professional cricket. It also highlights the complex dynamics and relationships that can exist between commentators, players, and coaches in the world of sports.

As the dust settles on this dramatic moment, it remains to be seen how the two commentators will move forward and whether they will be able to put their differences aside for the sake of their professional relationship. One thing is for certain – this fiery sledging episode has certainly added an extra layer of drama to an already intense cricket match.

  • Raheem Morris crashed the SNF live on-air, and it was amazing

Raheem Morris crashed the SNF live on-air, and it was amazing

Going into Week 17, the Atlanta Falcons controlled their own destiny. It’s a cliché, but it was true. The Falcons walked into their Sunday Night Football matchup with the Washington Commanders knowing that, if they won, they continued to stay atop the NFC South.

If the Falcons were to win out the rest of the way and earn two victories, they win the division and earn an automatic playoff berth.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are right behind them, though, and after beating the Carolina Panthers earlier in the day, the Bucs temporarily held a half-game lead in the division. There was a lot on the line for Washington to end Sunday of Week 17.

Leading up to kickoff, of course, NBC had their crew chatting up just how important this matchup was to both sides. As Tony Dungy, Rodney Harrison and Jac Collinsworth were discussing, Dungy mentioned the Falcons defense and their needing to slow down the run game of Washington.

Raheem Morris looked excited and ready for Sunday Night Football

Right on queue, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris crashed the pregame party on set and gave each of the three analysts a hug while looking ready to roll for the night. Spirits were high. Vibes were good. Morris looked and felt the part of a coach that knew what was at stake.

Because he stopped by mid-commentary, Morris was put on the spot when Dungy asked for a quick interview.

“Give us a game plan right now coach. What do we have to do?” asked the Hall of Fame coach.

“Hey we got to go out here and we got to stop this run,” Morris said, emphatically.

“As I was saying, they were going to commit to stopping the run,” Dungy happily reiterated.

Going into Week 17, the Commanders remained constant in their commitment to the run and were no. 5 in the league on the ground. Washington had averaged 152.7 yards per game on the ground thanks to the tandem of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and running back Brian Robinson, both rushing for over 700 yards apiece on the season through 15 games.

So, Dungy was right on with his assessment of what the Falcons needed to do and, as predicted, that’s exactly what Morris stated in his quick interview after crashing the set.

Defensively, Atlanta owned the NFL’s no. 11 run defense going into the game as well. So, this was a matchup of two teams in the top third in this category.

Last night, viewers tuning into Sunday Night Football got more than they bargained for when Raheem Morris, the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, crashed the live broadcast in a hilarious and unexpected way.

As Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth were discussing the Rams’ impressive defensive performance, Morris suddenly appeared behind them, waving and photobombing the shot. The commentators were caught off guard, but quickly embraced the moment, with Michaels jokingly asking Morris if he had any defensive tips to share.

The impromptu cameo from Morris added a fun and light-hearted moment to the broadcast, showcasing his playful personality and camaraderie with the NBC crew. Fans on social media were quick to praise Morris for his spontaneity and good humor, making the moment a highlight of the game.

It’s moments like these that remind us why we love live sports – you never know what might happen next. Kudos to Raheem Morris for bringing some unexpected entertainment to Sunday Night Football. Who knows what he’ll do next? Tune in next week to find out!
