  • PREVIEW: Red Wings open Western Canada leg of four-game road trip in Edmonton on Thursday

The Red Wings practiced at Little Caesars Arena’s BELFOR Training Center on Wednesday morning before departing for Edmonton. Patrick Kane (upper body) and Vladimir Tarasenko (illness) both participated, but J.T. Compher (upper body) and Jeff Petry (undisclosed) did not.

Per McLellan, he doesn’t expect Kane to play on Thursday but expects Tarasenko to return to the lineup. Compher will travel with the team on this road trip, while Petry will not.

Tied with the Vegas Golden Knights for first in the Western Conference’s Pacific Division at 67 points apiece, the Oilers most recently defeated the Kraken, 4-2, on Monday.

Captain Connor McDavid, who scored a goal in his return from a three-game suspension on Monday, leads the defending Western Conference champions in assists (45) and is second in goals (21) and points (66) behind Leon Draisaitl (35-40—75) this season. In 33 games, netminder Stuart Skinner has a 19-11-3 record with a 2.69 goals-against average and a pair of shutouts.

“I had the luxury of coaching them,” McLellan said about McDavid and Draisaitl. “The two of them are elite separately and super elite together. They play a completely different game. One is fast, one slows it down with passing and vision.”

Seider said the best way to defend against Edmonton’s star power is to do so as a five-man unit.

“Really focusing on keeping them to the outside, eliminating chances from the inner slot and try to eliminate extended D-zone shifts,” Seider said. “I think the more we have the puck, the better we’ll be and the more offense we’ll play.”

The Detroit Red Wings are set to kick off the Western Canada leg of their four-game road trip as they face off against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night. After a tough loss to the Vancouver Canucks, the Red Wings will be looking to bounce back and secure a much-needed win.

Edmonton has been playing well as of late, with star players Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl leading the way. The Red Wings will need to bring their A-game if they hope to come out on top against this tough opponent.

Stay tuned for updates and highlights from the game as the Red Wings look to make a statement in Edmonton. Let’s go Red Wings! #LGRW #DetroitRedWings #NHL #EdmontonOilers #WesternCanadaTrip

  • Jordan Spieth Reveals Gnarly Wrist Injury He Suffered at Last Year’s British Open

Jordan Spieth had a year to forget in 2024. The three-time major champion struggled all season with a wrist injury which greatly hindered his ability to perform on the golf course.

The injury has plagued Spieth since 2023, but it wasn’t until last year’s British Open that the 31-year-old decided enough was enough.

While speaking with Jim Nantz at a Q&A Wednesday night and reported via Golfweek, Jordan explained what happened at Royal Troon.

“I got [the tendon] back in before I hit my tee shot, and that’s when I thought maybe that’s the last straw. Maybe we should probably do something about this,” he said. “I don’t really feel like playing like this anymore.”

Spieth finished the season and then had surgery once he was eliminated from the FedEx Cup playoffs. He continued to explain the recovery process since his surgery.

“A real ball, if I hit more than 40, 50 yards hurt pretty bad on impact,” he told Nantz. “Then at around Week 12, which is what my surgeon thought it would be of the recovery time, there was a stretch there between like 11 and a half and 12 and a half where I could start to hit on a ball count and I would hit one, say a 6-iron thin off the heel and it hurt real bad.

“Then one day the thin heel one just didn’t hurt anymore. I hit it and I was like that should be the exact same as it was yesterday and it just didn’t hurt.”

Spieth is unsure of how he will play in his first start since the surgery.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m in the top 10 entering Sunday here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m not,” he said.

If there is anywhere that Spieth can play well despite some rust, it’s Pebble Beach. He won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2017 and also has three top-10 finishes in the event in his past five starts.

Jordan Spieth, the three-time major champion and former world number one, has revealed a gnarly wrist injury he suffered at last year’s British Open.

In an interview with Golf Digest, Spieth opened up about the injury, which occurred during the second round of the tournament at Royal St. George’s Golf Club. The 28-year-old Texan said he felt a sharp pain in his wrist after hitting a shot out of the rough on the 12th hole.

“I knew something was wrong as soon as I made contact with the ball,” Spieth said. “It felt like a lightning bolt shooting up my arm. I knew I had to finish the round, but it was excruciating.”

Spieth went on to finish the tournament tied for 30th, but the injury continued to bother him for months afterwards. He eventually sought treatment from a specialist, who diagnosed him with a torn ligament in his wrist.

“It was a tough pill to swallow, knowing that I had played through the pain and potentially made the injury worse,” Spieth said. “But I’m grateful for the medical team that helped me get back to full health.”

Despite the setback, Spieth is confident that he will be able to compete at the highest level again. He recently won the Valero Texas Open, his first PGA Tour victory in nearly four years, and is looking forward to the upcoming majors.

“I’ve learned a lot from this experience, both mentally and physically,” Spieth said. “I’m stronger and more determined than ever to get back to the top of the game. Watch out, world, because I’m coming for you.”

  • Eagles open Brandon Graham’s practice window – NBC Sports Philadelphia

A potential miracle Brandon Graham return is one step closer.

The Eagles on Thursday opened up Graham’s practice window, which means there’s still a chance he could play a week from Sunday against the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

B.G. has been on Injured Reserve since Nov. 26, two days after he tore his triceps in the Eagles’ win over the Rams in Inglewood, Calif.

The Eagles were scheduled to practice Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week before traveling to New Orleans on Sunday. Graham won’t count against the 53-man roster unless the Eagles activate him from Injured Reserve.

After the Eagles beat the Commanders in the NFC Championship Game, Graham told NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Dave Zangaro he had an exam scheduled for the next day to determine if a return after just 11 weeks was possible.

“I’ve been working, man, but we’re going to see,” he said. “At the end of the day, I’m just happy we got there. Them boys scored 55 today. That’s what’s up. That might be telling me something.”

That, of course, was a reference to B.G.’s jersey number since 2013.

Graham of course was one of the heroes in the Eagles’ win over the Patriots in Super Bowl LII at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. His strip sack of Tom Brady with 2:16 left and the Eagles up 38-33 is one of the most iconic plays in franchise history. The Eagles went on to win 41-33.

Graham and Lane Johnson are the only position players left on the roster from the Eagles’ only Super Bowl championship.

Graham, 36, was playing at a very high level in his 15th season when he got hurt. He had 3 ½ sacks, a forced fumble, six tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits and two pass knockdowns in 11 games while averaging 28 snaps per game.

In his last game, Graham increased his career sack total to 76 ½, moving past Clyde Simmons (76) and into third in Eagles history, behind Reggie White (124) and former teammate Trent Cole (85 ½).

Graham is the franchise record holder with 5 ½ career postseason sacks, although Nolan Smith is only one behind him.

With Graham out, Vic Fangio has gone with a three-man edge rush rotation with Smith, Josh Sweat and rookie Jalyx Hunt. Smith has 10 ½ sacks, including four in the postseason, Sweat has 8.0 but none in his last five games, and Hunt has 2 ½, including one in the playoff win over the Rams. Big-money free agent Bryce Huff has played only 13 snaps during the postseason, 12 of them in mop-up time Sunday.

B.G. said Sunday whether or not he plays, he’ll be a big part of things as the Eagles play in their third Super Bowl in eight years.

“I’m with it regardless,” he said. “Yes or no, it don’t matter. I’m just happy these guys is just working their butt off and now we got to the Super Bowl. Now we gotta go finish.”

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that defensive end Brandon Graham has been activated from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and will begin practicing with the team. This is a significant step forward for Graham as he continues his recovery from a knee injury that sidelined him for the start of training camp.

Graham, who is entering his 12th season with the Eagles, is a key player on the team’s defense and his return to practice is a positive development for the team. Head coach Nick Sirianni expressed his excitement about having Graham back on the field, stating, “Brandon is a leader on this team and his presence on the field will be a boost for our defense.”

Graham’s return to practice comes at a crucial time for the Eagles as they prepare for the upcoming season. His veteran presence and playmaking ability will be invaluable as the team looks to improve on their performance from last season.

Fans and teammates alike are thrilled to see Graham back in action and are hopeful that he will be ready to make a significant impact once the regular season begins. Stay tuned for updates on Graham’s progress as he continues to ramp up his practice participation with the team.

  • Eagles open practice windows for Brandon Graham, C.J. Uzomah

Defensive end Brandon Graham’s bid to return to action in the Super Bowl has taken a step forward.

Graham was thought to be done for the season when he tore his triceps in Week 12, but he has been talking about a potential return over the last few weeks and the Eagles are giving him the chance to show he’s able to play. Graham has been designated for return from injured reserve and he’s set to take part in practice on Thursday.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said earlier this week that the Eagles would give Graham the full two weeks before making a call about his availability against the Chiefs.

The Eagles also announced that they have opened the practice window for tight end C.J. Uzomah. Uzomah suffered an abdominal injury in Week 17 and appeared in seven games this season.

The Philadelphia Eagles have opened practice windows for defensive end Brandon Graham and tight end C.J. Uzomah as they continue their recoveries from injuries. Graham has been sidelined with a calf injury, while Uzomah has been dealing with a knee issue.

Both players are crucial pieces of the Eagles’ roster, and their return to full health would be a major boost for the team as they head into the final stretch of the season. Head coach Nick Sirianni expressed optimism about Graham and Uzomah’s progress in their recoveries and praised their work ethic and determination to get back on the field.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the return of these key players and are hopeful that they will be back in action soon to help the Eagles make a push for the playoffs. Stay tuned for updates on Graham and Uzomah as they continue to work towards their return to game action.

  • Eagles open practice window for DE Brandon Graham, TE C.J. Uzomah

As they prepare for the Super Bowl, the Eagles announced they’ve opened the practice windows for defensive end Brandon Graham and tight end C.J. Uzomah.

Graham went on Injured Reserve shortly after announcing he tore his triceps following the 37-20 win over the Rams on Sunday Night Football in Week 12.

The 15-year veteran originally said he was “out for the season” in the locker room after the first meeting with the Rams, but he is doing what he can to get ready for the big game on Feb. 9.

“We’ll see. Tomorrow, I’ll go meet up and we’ll see if it’s a possibility. I’ve been working man, but we will see,” Graham said after the Eagles won the NFC Championship. “At the end of the day, I’m just happy we got there. Those boys scored 55 today (Graham’s jersey number) – that’s what’s up – so, that might be telling me something.”

Uzomah was placed on IR on New Year’s Day after playing in seven games (three starts) for the Eagles this season.

In addition, the Eagles have signed running back Lew Nichols to the practice squad and released tight end Nick Muse.

Nichols spent time with Philadelphia during Training Camp and the preseason in 2024 and returned to the practice squad a month ago.

He originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick of the Packers out of Central Michigan in 2023. He joined the Eagles’ practice squad in October of his rookie season and finished the year in Philadelphia. He returned on a reserve/future deal in 2024. Nichols (5-10, 220 pounds) rushed for 3,061 yards, added 575 receiving yards, and scored 29 total touchdowns in 32 games at Central Michigan. He was the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2021.

Muse did not see any game action with the Eagles after being signed to the practice squad on Jan. 22. Muse was originally a seventh-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 out of South Carolina. He has played in 16 games over his three seasons, mainly as a practice squad elevation. – Written by Liam Wichser

The Philadelphia Eagles have officially opened the practice window for two key players, defensive end Brandon Graham and tight end C.J. Uzomah. This is exciting news for Eagles fans as both players have been sidelined with injuries and their return to practice is a step in the right direction towards getting back on the field.

Graham, a veteran leader on the Eagles defense, has been dealing with a knee injury that has kept him out of action for the past few weeks. His presence on the defensive line is crucial for the Eagles, and his return to practice is a positive sign that he may be ready to make his return to game action soon.

Uzomah, who was signed by the Eagles in the offseason, has been dealing with a hamstring injury that has kept him out of practice for the past few weeks. The tight end position is an important one for the Eagles offense, and Uzomah’s return to practice is a welcome sight as the team looks to get back on track.

Both players will now have the opportunity to participate in practice and work their way back to full health. It’s still unclear when they will be ready to return to game action, but this is a promising step in the right direction for both players and the Eagles as a whole. Stay tuned for updates on their progress as they continue to work towards getting back on the field. #FlyEaglesFly
