  • Cleveland Browns Again Connected to Surprising QB Trade Option

The Cleveland Browns will enter the offseason searching for a new starting quarterback. It is widely believed that the franchise will draft a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but that might not end up being the case.

Rumblings have been heard about the Browns taking either Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter with their first-round selection. That would still leave a need for a new quarterback.

Cleveland could look into signing a name like Sam Darnold in NFL free agency or even Justin Fields. However, there is another route that the front office could explore as well.

Could the Browns trade for a new starting quarterback this offseason?

Dan Labbe of Cleveland.com recently appeared on 92.3 The Fan and again connected Cleveland to an interesting potential quarterback trade option. He thinks that Seattle Seahawks veteran Geno Smith might be a solid target.

ā€œIā€™m watching Seattle to see what they are gonna do this year with Geno Smith. If for some reason they move on from Geno, if they decide for some reason that cap number is too much to bear, I would be really interested in bringing him in as a bridge quarterback,ā€ Labbe said.

Bringing Smith in as a bridge quarterback would make a lot of sense. However, how long would that bridge situation be in place?

It would make sense for the Browns to draft a quarterback at No. 2 and bring in a veteran signal caller. That way they would not have to throw their rookie onto the field right out of the gate.

Smith would be the kind of player who could start the 2025 season under center and be replaced at any point that Cleveland feels the rookie is ready to play.

During the 2024 NFL season with the Seahawks, Smith ended up playing in all 17 games. He completed 70.4 percent of his pass attempts for 4,320 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.

In addition to his passing numbers, Smith also rushed for 272 yards and two touchdowns.

Those numbers aren’t horrible, but the turnovers are concerning. Smith would not be a long-term option in this scenario, which could make sense.

All of that being said, the Browns are going to have a very interesting offseason. No one knows what to expect from them, but Smith could be a potential quarterback option in Cleveland.

The Cleveland Browns have once again found themselves in the middle of trade rumors involving a surprising quarterback option. With their current starter, Baker Mayfield, coming off a disappointing season, the team is reportedly exploring all options to improve at the position.

One name that has recently emerged as a potential trade target for the Browns is Jimmy Garoppolo of the San Francisco 49ers. Garoppolo, who has had success in the past but has struggled with injuries, could provide a veteran presence and stability at the quarterback position for Cleveland.

While the Browns have not made any official moves or statements regarding a potential trade for Garoppolo, the rumors have sparked speculation among fans and analysts alike. With the NFL offseason in full swing, it will be interesting to see if the Browns ultimately pull the trigger on a deal for the 49ers quarterback.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as the Cleveland Browns continue to search for their quarterback of the future.

  • Managed Services vs. In-House IT: What’s the Best Option for Your Business?

Managed Services vs. In-House IT: What’s the Best Option for Your Business?

In today’s technology-driven world, businesses rely heavily on IT infrastructure to function effectively. From managing data and communication systems to ensuring network security, IT plays a crucial role in the success of any organization. However, many businesses struggle to decide whether to manage their IT needs in-house or outsource them to a managed services provider. In this article, we will explore the pros and cons of each option to help you determine the best choice for your business.

    In-House IT

Having an in-house IT department means hiring and managing a team of IT professionals to handle all of your technology needs. This can be a costly and time-consuming endeavor, as you will need to invest in recruiting, training, and retaining skilled IT staff. Additionally, you will be responsible for providing them with the necessary tools, resources, and support to do their jobs effectively.

One of the key benefits of in-house IT is that you have complete control over your IT infrastructure and can tailor it to meet the specific needs of your business. You also have the advantage of having IT staff onsite to address any issues or concerns that may arise quickly. However, this level of control comes at a price, as it can be expensive to maintain an in-house IT team, especially for small and medium-sized businesses.

    Managed Services

Managed services, on the other hand, involve outsourcing your IT needs to a third-party provider who will take care of all aspects of your technology infrastructure. This can include everything from network monitoring and security to data backup and recovery. By partnering with a managed services provider, you can access a team of experienced IT professionals at a fraction of the cost of hiring in-house staff.

One of the main advantages of managed services is that it allows you to focus on your core business activities while leaving the IT management to the experts. Managed service providers have the resources and expertise to handle a wide range of IT needs, making them a cost-effective and efficient solution for many businesses. Additionally, they can offer 24/7 support and proactive monitoring to ensure that your IT systems are running smoothly at all times.

Choosing the Best Option for Your Business

When deciding between in-house IT and managed services, it’s essential to consider your business’s unique needs, budget, and goals. In-house IT may be the right choice for larger organizations with complex IT requirements and the resources to support a dedicated IT team. On the other hand, managed services are an excellent option for small and medium-sized businesses looking to streamline their IT operations and reduce costs.

Ultimately, the best option for your business will depend on your specific circumstances and priorities. By carefully weighing the pros and cons of each approach and assessing your IT needs, you can make an informed decision that will support the long-term success of your business. Whether you choose to manage your IT in-house or outsource it to a managed services provider, investing in a reliable and efficient IT infrastructure is crucial for staying competitive in today’s digital landscape.

  • Utah Hockey Club introduces Utah Outlaws as a name option, removing Wasatch

There has been another twist in Utah Hockey Clubā€™s naming process.

After fan feedback, Smith Entertainment Group is swapping the ā€œUtah Wasatchā€ option with ā€œUtah Outlawsā€ in the survey which is taking place at Delta Center during the teamā€™s four home games this week.

The final three potential names for the NHL franchise are now Utah Outlaws, Utah Hockey Club and Utah Mammoth.

ā€œThe fans will choose the name,ā€ said Mike Maughan who is an executive with Smith Entertainment Group. ā€œAnyone who wants to be able to take [the survey] will be able to.ā€

(Bethany Baker | The Salt Lake Tribune) Fans watch during the second period of the game between the Utah Hockey Club and the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025.

The team announced Wednesday that Yetis was out of the running due to the Yeti Cooler company being unwilling to strike a co-existence deal so both parties could use the trademark. SEG chose to pivot and further involve fans in the process by releasing the next iteration of names and logos that could represent the teamā€™s identity come the 2025-2026 season.

ā€œWe have engaged with Yeti coolers extensively. The NHL has also helped engage with us with them,ā€ Maughan said. ā€œAt the end of the day, they have a trademark that allows them to print Yeti or Yetis on clothing and other licensed merchandise. Without a co-existence agreement, we would not be able to print that.ā€

(Bethany Baker | The Salt Lake Tribune) People walk the concourse during the first period of the game between the Utah Hockey Club and the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025.

Voting opened Wednesday night at Delta Center as Utah took on the Pittsburgh Penguins. Stations with iPads were set up on every floor of the arena and were available from the time doors opened, throughout the intermissions and periods and until the game ended. Fans were asked to put their phones away while they took the survey to prevent the spreading of the logos.

The same process will ensue on Friday, Sunday and Tuesday at Delta Center but this time, Utah Outlaws will be an option. Outlaws was one of the top six names voted on by the fans in the last iteration of the SEG survey.

ā€œIā€™m excited. I like the thought process behind the three names and I really like the fact that our fans will have the opportunity to choose what they want,ā€ head coach AndrĆ© Tourigny said. ā€œIt will be an honor for us to have the name that the fans choose.ā€

The Utah Hockey Club has recently announced a name change for their team, removing the previous name of Wasatch and introducing a new option: the Utah Outlaws. The decision to change the team’s name comes as part of a rebranding effort to better represent the team and its values.

The Utah Outlaws name was chosen to embody the team’s competitive and fearless spirit on the ice. The Outlaws will continue to represent the state of Utah with pride and determination, striving for success in every game they play.

Fans are encouraged to embrace the new name and show their support for the Utah Outlaws as they gear up for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates and announcements from the Utah Hockey Club as they prepare to hit the ice as the Utah Outlaws. Let’s go Outlaws! #GoOutlaws #UtahHockeyClub #UtahOutlaws

  • Report: Rams’ Nick Caley not interested in Jets OC position despite being ‘their top option’

Jan 13, 2025; Glendale, AZ, USA; Los Angeles Rams tight ends coach Nick Caley against the Minnesota Vikings during an NFC wild card game at State Farm Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

Thereā€™s a chance Nick Caley will leave the Los Angeles Rams for an offensive coordinator opportunity this offseason, but it wonā€™t be with the New York Jets.

According to Connor Hughes of SNY, Caley has told the Jets that heā€™s not interested in being their offensive coordinator. Hughes reports that Caley was the teamā€™s ā€œtop optionā€ but he has ā€œlet it be known he did not have interest in the job.ā€

With LaFleur out of the running, the Jets are expected to hire Tanner Engstrand as their offensive coordinator. For Caley, heā€™s also being pursued by the Buccaneers and Texans, so he could potentially leave the Rams for one of those OC openings.

Caley just finished his second season with the Rams as their tight ends coach, also serving as their pass game coordinator under Sean McVay. He joined the Rams in 2023 after eight years with the Patriots, seven of which were as their tight ends coach.

This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: Report: Rams’ Nick Caley not interested in Jets OC position despite being ‘their top option’

According to a recent report, Los Angeles Rams tight ends coach Nick Caley is not interested in the New York Jets’ offensive coordinator position, despite being considered their top option for the role. Caley, who has been with the Rams since 2018, has garnered interest from several teams looking to fill coaching vacancies this offseason.

Despite the Jets reportedly viewing Caley as their top choice for the offensive coordinator position, it seems that he is not inclined to leave the Rams at this time. Caley has played a significant role in the development of the Rams’ tight ends, including standout player Tyler Higbee, and may be content to continue his work with the team.

While the Jets may need to explore other options for their offensive coordinator position, Caley’s decision to stay with the Rams could be seen as a vote of confidence in the organization and its coaching staff. It remains to be seen who the Jets will ultimately choose to fill the role, but it appears that Caley will not be making the move to New York.

  • Brestā€™s Champions League fairytale, Boniface/Duran transfer option, rare Lasso card

The Athletic FC is The Athleticā€™s daily football (or soccer, if you prefer) newsletter. Sign up to receive it directly to your inbox.

Hello! Itā€™s Matchday Mayhem in the Champions League and a club with five per cent of Real Madridā€™s riches are the heroes of it.

French fairytale: Fishing-town team Brest go from amateur leagues to taking on Real Madrid

Photos: Getty Images; design: Eamonn Dalton

The closing night of the Champions Leagueā€™s revamped group stage, now known as the league phase, this evening cuts a scene of pure gluttony. Eighteen simultaneous matches are an indulgence of action, money and largesse ā€” with a little strand of fantasy mixed in.

If youā€™re trying to decide which game of the 18 to watch, Iā€™d point you towards Brest vs Real Madrid ā€” a club who require a roadmap for the Champions League against another who know it inside out. Itā€™s a fixture that defies footballā€™s natural order; the product of a minor miracle.

The setting this evening tells a story in itself, because the stadium in which Brest are playing their Champions League fixtures belongs to somebody else. Their own is too small and basic to comply with the regulations of European footballā€™s governing body, UEFA. Instead, they will host Madrid in Guingamp, an hourā€™s drive away and no heaving metropolis either. It took protests from supporters to halt plans to play future knockout fixtures further afield, in Paris.

Brest is a small fishing town on the north-western tip of France (next stop, Canada!), with a football club to match its modesty. Comparisons with Real are hilarious: an annual turnover of Ā£42million ($52m) versus Ā£840m, one season in the Champions League (this one) compared to Realā€™s 55, and zero major trophies in contrast to the Spaniardsā€™ 103.

But it is Brestā€™s history alone that says more than anything and there is no better way of putting it than this: when Madrid lifted the eighth of their 15 European Cup/Champions League titles in 2000, Brest were in one of Franceā€™s regional amateur leagues, competing with what were effectively village teams.

Truly, they have never known days like these.

Brest are not just here for the ride either. Whatever happens in Guingamp tonight, they are guaranteed a place in the knockout play-offs next month. Get the right result and they could advance into Marchā€™s round of 16 automatically. As it stands after seven of the eight rounds of league-phase play, theyā€™re a point better off than todayā€™s opposition ā€” who are the defending European champions.

Their route to this point is distinctly marvellous. Manager Eric Roy was almost devoid of experience and a stab in the dark when he got the job in 2023. Their squad is as far from box office as it gets in the Champions League. Mark Carey from our data department highlighted giant striker Ludovic Ajorque and combative midfielder Mahdi Camara as faces to look out for, but the average football fan would struggle to pick them out of an ID parade.

The setup was enough to earn them third place in Franceā€™s Ligue 1 last season, the best domestic finish in their history. Itā€™s been enough to guide them into Europe and give them a fighting chance of sticking around at that level.

UEFA will see the threat of elimination from European competition for the rest of this season hanging over giants Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain tonight as the firmest vindication of its new Champions League format but, in the list of positives, Brest is best.

    Companion guide

U.S. broadcaster CBS has dubbed tonight ā€˜Matchday Mayhemā€™, a rare occasion when advertising hyperbole is justified. Nine of the 36 Champions League teams are already out, but thereā€™s a hell of a lot still to play for. The Athletic got up close and personal with CBS here.

Before the dogs of war are unleashed, I wanted to bring you some essential reading. First up, itā€™s useful to understand just how much Europeā€™s top competition is paying out this season. For example, should Liverpool go all the way, they could pocket Ā£135million. Theyā€™ve banked Ā£35m so far. UEFAā€™s revised format is staggeringly lucrative (which was, of course, the whole point).

Our writers have also explained how they intend to follow a slew of simultaneous contests unlike any other competition. The games involving City and PSG are obvious picks, but Lille vs Feyenoord, Inter vs Monaco and Aston Villa vs Celtic stood out from Anantaajith Raghuramanā€™s study of the permutations.

The old man in me told The Daily Football Briefing podcast this morning that 18 matches in one night is fundamentally daft. But hands up: it sounds a lot of fun, too, and I donā€™t think we were so enthusiastic about the final round of group-stage fixtures last season. Itā€™s also set up for a gambler somewhere to fall one result short of an epic accumulator returning a fortune.

Say it quietly, but Iā€™m a bit of a convert.

Selected games, all 3pm ET/8pm UK and Paramount+/TNT Sports: Aston Villa vs Celtic; Barcelona vs Atalanta; Bayern Munich vs Slovan Bratislava; Brest vs Real Madrid; Dinamo Zagreb vs Milan; Girona vs Arsenal; Inter vs Monaco; Manchester City vs Club Brugge; PSV vs Liverpool; Stuttgart vs Paris Saint-Germain.

Thousands for Ted: Once given away, only six Lasso rookie cards thought to remain

Photo: 27th Annual SAG Awards/Getty Images for WarnerMedia; card image: Topps

The ironic thing about trading cards is that some become insanely valuable because nobody wanted them in the first place. A tonne of Mickey Mantle 1952 baseball cards were dumped in the sea ā€” rendering those not sent to Davy Jonesā€™ locker so rare that one in mint condition sold for eight figures in 2022.

A similar thing happened with a Ted Lasso version, issued by NBC to promote its acquisition of TV rights for the 2013-14 Premier League season. The lionā€™s share were thrown away. Itā€™s estimated that just six remain in circulation and if youā€™ve got your hands on one, itā€™ll net you a sum in the thousands because theyā€™re highly sought after now.

The highlight of this piece about them: a chat with Bill Bergofin ā€” an NBC employee at the time of issue ā€” prompting him to rummage through the stack of cards in his closet. He found two of Ted Lasso, both pristine. Kerching!

    And finallyā€¦

What is the definition of ā€˜on a plateā€™? How about this chance for Millwallā€™s Raees Bangura-Williams in their 1-0 Championship win at Portsmouth yesterday. It had an expected goals (xG) rating of 0.80 ā€” which, to put it bluntly, is very close to unmissable. The net wasnā€™t wide enough to swallow him up either.

Brestā€™s Champions League fairytale, Boniface/Duran transfer option, rare Lasso card

Brest, the underdogs of the Champions League, have stunned football fans around the world with their fairytale run in the competition. Despite being one of the smallest clubs in Europe, Brest have defied the odds and reached the quarter-finals of the prestigious tournament, knocking out heavyweights like Barcelona and Bayern Munich along the way.

One of the key players in Brestā€™s remarkable journey has been striker Boniface, whose clinical finishing and never-say-die attitude have earned him a cult following among fans. Rumours are now swirling that top clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester City are vying for his signature in the upcoming transfer window.

Another player who has caught the eye of scouts is midfielder Duran, whose creative flair and vision in the middle of the park have been instrumental in Brestā€™s success. It is believed that clubs like Juventus and PSG are considering making a bid for the talented playmaker.

In other news, collectors of rare football memorabilia are in a frenzy over the discovery of a rare Lasso card, featuring the iconic defender in his prime. Only a handful of these cards are known to exist, making them highly sought after by collectors and fans alike.

As Brest continue their quest for Champions League glory, the football world watches on in awe at the remarkable achievements of this plucky underdog team. Will they go all the way and lift the trophy? Only time will tell.

Cincinnati Bengals: New Defensive Coordinator Hopes to Help Bengals Start Faster in 2025

Getting off to slow starts has been a recent problem for the Cincinnati Bengals. They are 7-14-1 in September since Zac Taylor became their head coach, and new Defensive Coordinator Al Golden wants to help solve that problem.

“That’s kind of an in-house thing,ā€Ælike,ā€Æwhatā€Ædo we need to doā€Æin-houseā€Æwiseā€Æto solve that problem?”ā€ÆGolden said to Bengals radio play-by-play voice Dan Hoard, via Si.com.ā€Æ”That’s a sensitive subjectā€Æin termsā€Æof weā€Æall know thatā€Æthat’s somethingā€Æthat will be on the docket this offseason in terms of starting faster.ā€ÆBut in terms of giving you ideas, I think it’s best to keep that in-house and work through Zacā€Æon that.”

Golden was linebackers coach with the Bengals for two seasons (2020-21) before leaving to become Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator. Now that he’s back, Golden and Taylor want to help the Bengals become kingpins in the AFC North again, as they were in 2021-22, before the Ravens won the past two division titles.

“I think you’ve got to understand our division that we play in,” said Taylor, via Geoff Hobson of the teamā€™s website. “You’re going to play six (division games) a year. That’s going to dictate, really, where you end up at the end of the season.

“I think this division is different. I think when people come and they play all four teams in this division, they feel that immediately. You’re certainly (going to) need a coordinator who has an understanding of that.”

According to recent reports, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is being considered as a “strong option” to join forces with his former head coach Pete Carroll in Las Vegas with the Raiders.

Wilson, who has spent his entire career with the Seahawks, has been the subject of trade rumors in recent weeks. The Raiders, who are looking to upgrade at the quarterback position, are reportedly interested in acquiring Wilson to lead their offense.

Carroll and Wilson enjoyed a successful partnership in Seattle, winning a Super Bowl together in 2014. The prospect of reuniting with his former coach could be enticing for Wilson as he looks to continue his career with a new team.

While nothing is set in stone at this point, the possibility of Wilson joining the Raiders is certainly an intriguing one for fans and analysts alike. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.

  • Kyle Walker transfer news: Man City defender joins AC Milan on loan with option to buy | Football News

Kyle Walker has left Manchester City and joined AC Milan on an initial six-month loan, with the Serie A club having an option to buy him permanently this summer.

The 34-year-old asked to leave City earlier in January with his last appearance for the club coming in the 4-1 home win over West Ham at the start of the month.

City accepted Milan’s formal loan offer on Thursday. The option to buy in the summer is worth around Ā£4.2m (ā‚¬5m), according to Sky in Italy.

Paul Merson believes Manchester City are making a mistake by letting Kyle Walker leave the club on loan

Walker has helped City win 17 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League, since joining the club in a Ā£50m deal from Tottenham in 2017.

He was close to joining Bayern Munich after City’s treble win in 2023, but signed a contract extension to keep him at the club until 2026.

Walker departs City having made 319 appearances for the club across seven-and-half-seasons at the Etihad Stadium, while he captained the side for last season’s historic fourth consecutive Premier League title.

The England international will wear the number 32 shirt at AC Milan, who sit eighth in Serie A and are on course to finish in the top eight of the Champions League table with Sergio Conceicao’s occupying sixth spot.

Walker: I’ll be forever grateful to Pep

Walker said he will be “forever grateful” to Man City boss Pep Guardiola, who brought him to the club in 2017.

The ex-Sheffield Utd defender posted on Instagram: “Manchester Cityā€¦ where do I start? Signing for this incredible club in 2017 was a dream come true. Seven years later, winning 17 trophies, including the Champions League and the famous treble is something I could only have dreamt as a child.

“To play alongside so many top players has pushed me to be the best version of myself, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity I’ve had at the Etihad.

“A huge thank you to so many people, the coaching staff, the kit men and all the backroom staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes. You make every day enjoyable and provide the platform for us to perform at our best.

“To my team-mates, from the moment I walked through the door I felt at home. Thank you for the great memories and for all the success we have shared together. You are friends, but also family for life.

“To Pep Guardiola, thank you for believing in me and working so hard to bring me here in 2017. Together, we’ve celebrated 17 trophies, and your guidance has helped shape me into the player I am today. I’ll be forever grateful.

“To Annie, our children and all my family who have been there and supported me on this journey thank you.

“Most importantly, to the fans – thank you for embracing me as one of your own from day one. Your unwavering support, week in, week out, home and away, will never be forgotten.

“I wish you all constant success going forward. Thank you.”

Walker one of Pep’s most trusted – but time catches up with everyone

Sky Sports News reporter Ben Ransom:

By the end of his first season in charge, Pep Guardiola had realised that it would take a massive overhaul of the Manchester City squad to win the trophies he’d been brought in to deliver.

Ten regular first-team players were shown the exit door in the summer of 2017 and a raft of new talent was brought in to pave the way for an era of domestic dominance.

Central to that was the signing of Kyle Walker, who at the time was the most expensive defender in English football history, arriving from Tottenham for a fee worth more than Ā£50m including add-ons.

Guardiola needed more energy from his full-backs to realise his vision, and Walker was seen to be the perfect upgrade on fan-favourite Pablo Zabaleta, who was released at the age of 32.

Eyebrows were raised at the time, but in the seven-and-a-half years since, Walker has repaid that transfer fee many times over.

In a surprising move, Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has joined AC Milan on loan with an option to buy. The 31-year-old English right-back has been a key player for City since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017, but has seen his playing time reduced in recent seasons.

Walker’s move to Milan comes as a bit of a shock, as he was expected to stay at City for the foreseeable future. However, the opportunity to join the Serie A giants on loan with an option to make the move permanent was too good to turn down.

Milan are currently in need of defensive reinforcements and Walker’s experience and quality will undoubtedly be a valuable addition to their squad. It remains to be seen whether the move will be made permanent at the end of the season, but Walker will be hoping to impress during his time in Italy.

City fans will no doubt be sad to see Walker leave, but will wish him all the best in his new adventure at Milan. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing transfer news.
