  • Controversial former Rangers defenseman now potential NHL free-agent option

After a 34-game stint in the KHL, former New York Rangers defenseman Tony DeAngelo parted ways with his team, returning to North America for what is believed to be family reasons.

DeAngelo had a decent run in the KHL, albeit a short one. In his 34 games, he was the highest-scoring defenseman in the league, logging six goals and 26 assists for 32 points, as well as a plus-15 rating with SKA St. Petersburg.

While he is believed to have returned to North America to be with his family, rumors suggest that may not be the entire story. It’s been reported that DeAngelo was solely focused on offensive production in order to meet certain performance bonus benchmarks, and that once again, he was unable to gel in a team environment.

Nonetheless, his return to North America could attract the attention of an NHL team or two. The 29-year-old defenseman had success in the NHL, with 48 goals and 210 points in 377 career games split between the Arizona Coyotes, Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Philadelphia Flyers.

Last season, he played 31 games with the Hurricanes and had 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in a limited role. When Brett Pesce was injured early in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, DeAngelo took on a regular role on the Hurricanes blue line. He played nine postseason games and averaged over 19 minutes in ice time per game, contributing two assists.

DeAngelo played all six games against the Rangers in the second round. He had an assist in Carolina’s Game 2 overtime loss in New York and another in its home win in Game 4.

But despite defensemen his age signing big contracts this past offseason, DeAngelo failed to land a deal of any kind and decided in late September to play in the KHL.

Though DeAngelo’ controversial character is well know through the League, there could be a team interested in signing him for the stretch run on a minimum NHL contract.

Potential landing spots for Tony DeAngelo

It should be noted that the Rangers have zero interest in a reunion with DeAngelo. They sent him home early in the 2020-21 season and eventually bough out the remainder of his contract. He had been benched early in the season by then-coach David Quinn and then had an altercation with goalie Alexandar Georgiev. That coupled with some controversial social media posts landed him on the outside looking in at the NHL.

DeAngelo does have skill, though. He had an NHL career-high 53 points (15 goals, 38 assists) with the Rangers in 2019-20 and two years later had 51 points in 64 games with the Hurricanes.

So, which teams might have interest in DeAngelo this time around?

    Carolina Hurricanes

NHL: Carolina Hurricanes at Chicago Blackhawks
    Jamie Sabau-Imagn Images

DeAngelo had two stints with the Hurricanes before heading over to Russia. He first played for them in the 2021-22 season after his tenure with the Rangers crashed and burned. Never known for his defense, DeAngeloe had a career-high plus-30 rating that season. He added a goal and nine assists in 14 playoff games.

After spending a season with the Flyers, he returned to Carolina last season in a part-time role. However, after finding his game in the KHL, Carolina may be interested in a third reunion. Their depth on defense is not the same this season after losing both Pesce and Brady Skjei in free agency, though they did add Shayne Gostisbehere and Sean Walker.

Coach Rod Brind’Amour knows DeAngelo, and there were no issues in his previous two stints with the team. So, this makes sense for both parties.

    Vancouver Canucks

There may not be a more hectic team in the NHL when it comes to rumor and drama than the Vancouver Canucks right now. Why not stir the pot even more by bringing in DeAngelo? Jokes aside, the Canucks have far too good of a roster to be a bubble team in the playoff race. They need to do something to shake things up, and rather than trading away talent, maybe brining in a puck-moving defenseman like DeAngelo could help their cause.

Quinn Hughes carries the defensive core and team as a whole with 50 points on the season. The next closest defenseman is Tyler Myers with just 13 points. Despite all of the drama surrounding the Canucks this season, a serious case can be made to bring in a player like DeAngelo who, at the very least, could provide some more points from the defense position.

Healthy star goalie is spark Rangers need in playoff push

    Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins haven’t had the season they envisioned after making some key offseason acquisitions such as center Elias Lindholm and defenseman Nikita Zadorov, as well as signing goalie Jeremy Swayman to an eight-year extension. Even so, they’re in the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, though only a maximum of seven points separate them from seven teams right on their heels looking to make a push.

It’s safe to say that Boston could use some help on the back end, especially in terms of points. It’s been a rough season for Charlie McAvoy, who has just 20 points in 45 games. In fact, it’s Mason Lohrei who leads all Bruins defenseman in points with 22, but he sports a minus-10 rating, worst among Boston’s defensemen. This is another team who may take the risk of adding DeAngelo, hoping that he can provide more depth and some added offense to their struggling defense corps.

    More About:

Former Rangers defenseman Tony DeAngelo has always been a polarizing figure, both on and off the ice. Known for his offensive prowess and fiery personality, DeAngelo has found himself in hot water multiple times throughout his career.

DeAngelo was recently bought out by the Rangers after a tumultuous season that saw him benched multiple times and ultimately cut ties with the team. Despite his talent, DeAngelo’s behavior and locker room presence have raised concerns among potential suitors.

However, with the NHL free agency period approaching, DeAngelo is now a potential option for teams in need of defensive help. His ability to quarterback a power play and contribute offensively could be valuable for a team willing to take a chance on him.

The question remains, though – is DeAngelo worth the risk? Will his talent outweigh the potential issues that come with signing him? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – DeAngelo’s name will be one to watch as free agency gets underway.

  • Pete Carroll has come up as a 49ers DC option, per report

Former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is clearly interested in returning to the NFL sidelines. Now we might find just how far that interest goes.

Rost: Two recent reports about Seahawks OC search stand out

Carroll has been a candidate in the head coach searches for both the Chicago Bears and Las Vegas Raiders. The Bears have filled their vacancy with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, while the Raiders had yet to name a new coach as of late Wednesday afternoon.

But if Carroll doesn’t land a job as a head coach, there may be one more option for him – as a defensive coordinator. With the Seahawks’ biggest rival.

    Buckle up.

In an article by longtime Bay Area sports reporter Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard published Wednesday, he wrote that the 49ers have considered talking to Carroll about running their defense. The reason? They already run the “Seattle style” defense Carroll is known for, and if they can’t hire back Robert Saleh, one of Carroll’s old assistants in Seattle who was 49ers DC from 2017-20, it sure would make sense to then bring in Carroll.

NFC West Check-In: 49ers interview Robert Saleh for his old job

“As the 49ers anxiously wait for the outcome of Saleh’s interview with Jacksonville for the Jaguars’ head-coaching vacancy, I’ve heard that Carroll’s name has come up inside 49ers HQ as an interesting idea, at least,” Kawakami wrote.

So that means the 49ers are in a waiting game in a couple of ways, dependent on how Saleh and Carroll’s pursuits of head coach positions go.

Should Saleh, who was Jets head coach from 2021-24, end up with the Jaguars, and then the Raiders go a direction other than Carroll, the big question then would be if Carroll is eager enough to return to coaching that he would do so as an assistant coach – for the team he butted heads with more than any other during his 14 years with the Seahawks.

Then again, it would give the 73-year-old Carroll the chance to get the last word against the franchise that let him go a year ago.

Didn’t see that one coming, did you?

Report: Pete Carroll lands another interview for NFL head coach job

According to a recent report, Pete Carroll has emerged as a potential candidate for the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator position. Carroll, who was recently let go by the Seattle Seahawks after 12 seasons as head coach, is known for his defensive expertise and success in the NFL.

The 49ers are in need of a new defensive coordinator after parting ways with DeMeco Ryans following the end of the 2021 season. Carroll’s experience and track record of success could make him an attractive option for the team as they look to rebuild their defense and make a push for the playoffs in the upcoming season.

It remains to be seen if Carroll will ultimately land the job with the 49ers, but his name being floated as a potential candidate is certainly intriguing. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Ken Jennings Is the ‘Cheapest Hosting Option’ for ‘Celebrity Jeopardy’ Season 3 and Beyond

Ken Jennings is thrilled he’s been confirmed as the host of Celebrity Jeopardy! season 3, but a source close to his Sony TV bosses says it’s largely because he’s the cheap and cheerful option.

“Ken’s been pretty clear from the beginning of his hosting journey that he’s not driven by money as much as he’s driven by a deep love for this game show that totally changed his life and made him world-famous,” the insider exclusively tells Closer. “That’s an admirable position for him to take, but it also gives the bosses at Sony TV all the power when it comes to his relationship with them.”

The source adds that the executives “know they can pay [Ken] a fraction of what they would have to pay a well-known celebrity, comedian or even a professional game show host.”

The insider continues, “As to his ascension to hosting the celebrity edition of the show, sure, it means a little more money for Ken, but the focus for Sony is to keep the overall franchise profitable and the more they use Ken, the more money they save — he is unquestionably the cheapest hosting option who fans actually know and like and who won’t ruin the show.”

For these reasons, the source predicts that Ken, 50, is “going to be in this role for a long time. He’s not going to lose this job over money, that’s for sure!”

The former computer programmer was announced as the host of Celebrity Jeopardy! season 3 in December 2024 after he previously took on the gig for season 2, which aired from September 2023 to January 2024.

“Ken’s ready for the new season of #CelebrityJeopardy!, are you? Watch the season premiere January 8 at a NEW TIME, 9/8c on ABC, and stream on Hulu!” the official Jeopardy! Instagram account shared.

Ken Jennings Is 'Cheapest Option' for Celebrity Jeopardy Host (EXCL)

Ken Jennings Is ‘Cheapest Option’ for Celebrity Jeopardy Host (EXCL)

Ken, who set a record for the most consecutive Jeopardy! wins in history with 74 victories in 2004, became a part-time host of the game show after Alex Trebek’s death in 2020. He split the hosting duties with Mayim Bialik. However, he took over as full-time host after Mayim, 49, withdrew from her role in 2023.

In an interview with Rolling Stone published on January 7, Ken recalled having a time after Alex’s death when he wasn’t sure if he wanted to take over.

“Everybody there was very emotional, and I had to be the one talking through it, even though I probably knew him least of all 100 people on set, crew and the staff. It was very scary,” he admitted. “You’re aware that the audience does not want you there. They’re like me, they want the other guy, and I was missing him too. I’m like, ‘I don’t want to be here. I would give anything to not be here right now.’”

However, Ken overcame his anxieties about hosting Jeopardy!. Now, he doesn’t want to go anywhere, despite mixed chatter from viewers about his skills as a host, a source exclusively told Closer in August 2024.

“He’s desperate to make it work and has no intention of leaving of his own accord,” the insider said. “Ken’s well aware of the noise and tittle-tattle, and privately he would acknowledge these are tough times — especially with Colin Jost coming on to host Pop Culture Jeopardy! and fans calling him awkward, which is hard to take. But he’s insisting there’s a share of blame here. He doesn’t write the lines or pick the questions and contestants, and won’t be made a scapegoat!”

Ken Jennings, the beloved Jeopardy champion and all-time highest-earning game show contestant, has officially been announced as the “cheapest hosting option” for the upcoming season 3 of ‘Celebrity Jeopardy’ and beyond.

After a successful run as guest host following the tragic passing of Alex Trebek, Jennings has proven to be a fan-favorite and a natural fit for the role. With his quick wit, vast knowledge, and charming demeanor, Jennings has won over audiences and critics alike.

In a statement, the producers of ‘Celebrity Jeopardy’ praised Jennings for his hosting abilities, stating that he brings a unique energy and charisma to the show that is unmatched. They also noted that Jennings comes at a fraction of the cost of other potential hosts, making him the “cheapest hosting option” for the popular game show.

Fans of ‘Jeopardy’ are thrilled with the news, as they believe Jennings will continue to honor the legacy of Alex Trebek while putting his own spin on the role. With Jennings at the helm, ‘Celebrity Jeopardy’ is sure to remain a must-watch for years to come.

So mark your calendars and get ready to tune in to ‘Celebrity Jeopardy’ season 3, hosted by the one and only Ken Jennings. It’s going to be an exciting ride!

  • Dyami Brown’s recent emergence gives Commanders another viable option vs. Lions

The Athletic has live coverage of Commanders vs Lions  in the NFC divisional round playoffs.

ASHBURN, Va. — After the week’s first practice, reporters and cameramen crowded around one of the Washington Commanders wideouts. That’s not uncommon when the receiver is Terry McLaurin.

“Man, I haven’t had interviews and (crowds) like this all year,” Dyami Brown joked on Tuesday.

He’s not wrong, at least with the two-deep throng of media members seeking a sound bite from one of Washington’s wild-card standouts. Based on the divisional-round matchup against the Detroit Lions, there’s a chance Brown is sought out again.

Detroit, the top seed in the NFC and coming off a bye, has one of the most aggressive defenses in the league. Under defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, a hot head-coaching candidate this cycle, the Lions played man coverage (41.5 percent of the time) more than all teams and finished third in blitz percentage per dropback (38.4 percent) during the regular season.

That style may cause offenses to hurry. It will also open downfield opportunities for Washington.

“(Glenn is) going to get you,” Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury said. “You got to just stay within yourself. There’s going to be times that they win, and they get you, and you’re going to have some negative plays. But you’ll have a chance, because they’ll take risks, to hit some big ones, as well.”

That’s why Brown might have his number called again. The fourth-year receiver never developed into a steady route-running threat, and it’s hard to say he’s turned into one now. However, he caught all five targets Sunday night at Tampa Bay for 89 yards and a 10-yard touchdown.

The yardage was his highest since Week 5 of the 2022 season, and the five targets matched a season best. With 23 of his 45 total targets this season coming in the past five games, there’s an apparent uptick in involvement following Noah Brown’s season-ending kidney injury. Others could be this week’s surprise help — Olamide Zaccheaus and Jamison Crowder have produced during this six-game winning streak, too — but Brown is delivering.

“They’ve all stepped up when their number’s been called,” Kingsbury said, adding Brown’s “attitude and approach have gotten more business-like and more professional throughout this season, and it’s paying off. To have a game like that in that environment was really cool to see.”

Brown credits preparation and belief from Kingsbury and his teammates for this late-season boost. “That’s a pretty big thing for me,” Brown said. “I can trust myself because I prepared for the moment.”

Kingsbury’s homework includes finding ways to get McLaurin involved in the first half. Washington is 7-0 when the two-time Pro Bowler generates at least 35 yards before halftime. Six times, he entered the second half with fewer than 10 yards. The Commanders also have won all seven games in which McLaurin finished with at least eight targets.

“The sideline erupts when he gets going,” Kingsbury said.

Another agenda item is Kingsbury finding ways to attack and manipulate Detroit’s playmaking safety tandem of Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch, and first-round rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold. There are also reminders to avoid becoming an “emotional play caller,” even if the Lions’ pressure causes havoc or the league’s top-scoring offense (33.2 points per game) flexes its big-play muscle.

Statistical similarities between the Lions and Buccaneers should help with mental preparation. Detroit’s 37.1 pressure rate ranks sixth, one spot behind Tampa Bay. The Lions allowed 71 plays of 20-plus yards, fourth most in the league and eight more than the Buccaneers. However, Detroit’s lengthy list of injuries has hampered the defensive output.

The Lions allowed 27 receptions of 20-plus yards over the final five weeks of the regular season, the most in the NFL. They also surrendered the second-most passing yards (285.2) and ranked 28th in yards per carry (4.9) over that stretch.

Kingsbury knows Washington must keep feeding its running backs, even though the traditional ground game has been in a month-long slump. Starter Brian Robinson Jr. has 110 yards on 38 carries (2.9 yards per rush) in the Commanders’ last four games. Austin Ekeler provides a perimeter and dual-threat skill set. Coach Dan Quinn reminds Kingsbury to remain consistent with run calls.

“It’s helped me having a defensive head coach. (Quinn) let’s it be known we need to run the football at times,” Kingsbury said. “In my previous life, (I’d) be airing it out.”

That will happen, as well. McLaurin is the primary target, but Brown has quietly emerged from the crowd as a viable option.

Commanders’ fourth-down effectiveness could be pivotal vs. aggressive Lions

    Zane Gonzalez opens up

Zane Gonzalez’s lifelong challenge with obsessive-compulsive disorder was on display for Sunday’s nationally televised audience.

The kicker prepped for his career’s most significant field goal attempt. Make the boot from 37 yards, and the Commanders advance past the Buccaneers and into the divisional round of the NFC playoffs for a meeting Saturday night in Detroit. But in that pressure-packed moment, Gonzalez’s tics became a focus for many watching.

He repeatedly removed his cleats on the sideline to adjust his socks. With three seconds remaining in a tie game, he would walk toward his kicking spot and start putting on his helmet, only to stop and scrape his hair. This happened several times, never by choice.

The attempt from Washington’s fourth regular-season kicker and seventh since the offseason went through after a doink detour off the right upright. Game-winning field goals aren’t an everyday occurrence, banked or otherwise. Dealing with OCD, on the other hand, never ends.

“It’s something I’ve done my whole career,” Gonzalez said. “It’s just something I’ve always done.”

Social media commenters and TV analysts unfamiliar with his story weren’t sure what to make of Gonzalez’s pre-kick routine. They weren’t watching him get upset as a kid because he couldn’t complete his homework. Writing a single letter might take hours.

Gonzalez’s parents would attempt to take his mind off whatever was getting in his way. His father took him out for walks or to play soccer. The attempted distractions didn’t stick for long.

“It was pretty much crippling me at that time,” Gonzalez said following Thursday’s practice.

Explaining his condition to others was its own headache.

“It’s hard to describe the mindset that’s going on in the OCD,” Gonzalez said. “Whenever one of those situations comes up, whatever it may be, you think the worst possible situation will come of it. It could be the most unrealistic, crazy, unimaginable thing, and people will be like, ‘You’re crazy for thinking that stuff.’”

Gonzalez doesn’t need that feedback. He’s aware, but “that tic is constantly kneading at you. It’s never-ending.”

He doesn’t share any of this for pity. Making it to the NFL is quite an accomplishment. The 2017 seventh-round pick by the Cleveland Browns has bounced around, playing regular-season games for four teams. Gonzalez joined Washington’s practice squad in early November and, with Austin Seibert injured, made his Commanders debut in the Nov. 10 one-point home loss to Pittsburgh.

Gonzalez made all 19 of his extra points and 5 of 7 field goals in the regular season. Then came the playoff kick in Tampa. Gonzalez will be ready for his next chance in Detroit despite an early-week hip issue.

He says his anxiety has improved since he was a child and that, as a grown-up, he can “handle it a lot better.” That doesn’t mean he didn’t reset his alarm “about 100 times” Thursday night.

Gonzalez avoids social media, but his wife, Lizzy, shares some of the conversation. They laughed about the post-kick comments. It’s not like his brother and sister didn’t tease him growing up.

“You’ve got to have humility. If not, you’ll drive yourself crazy,” Gonzalez said. “(Lizzy) has seen me at the practice field doing the same stuff. For us, it’s just funny that this was on such a big stage and how it all unfolded.”

    Bobby Wagner ready to roll

Eleven-time All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner isn’t letting an ankle injury or annoyance keep him off the field in Detroit. After sitting out the first two days this week, Wagner returned to practice Thursday on a limited basis.

“I’m good,” the 13-year veteran said when asked how he felt. He was too savvy to offer any more when pressed.

“It’s life,” Wagner responded to the first follow-up question. Two more followed before the voluminous tackler closed the door, respectfully.

“I’m not going to talk about the injury or anything. The Detroit Lions are watching,” Wagner said. “See you guys Saturday.”

With that guarantee, Washington’s injury situation is excellent for Saturday’s massive game with an appearance in the NFC Championship Game at stake. No starter or high-rotation player was on the team’s final injury report. Quinn previously ruled out linebacker Jordan Magee with a hamstring injury. Lions running back David Montgomery (knee) is no longer on Detroit’s injury report.

Dyami Brown, the rookie wide receiver for the Washington Commanders, has been making waves in recent weeks with his impressive performances on the field. His emergence as a reliable target for quarterback Taylor Heinicke has given the Commanders another viable option in their passing game, especially as they prepare to take on the Detroit Lions this week.

In last week’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Brown had a breakout performance, catching five passes for 66 yards and a touchdown. His speed and route-running ability have made him a threat to opposing defenses, and his chemistry with Heinicke has been evident as they continue to connect on big plays.

With Brown’s emergence, the Commanders now have a dynamic receiving corps that includes Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel. This trio of receivers gives Heinicke multiple options to target in the passing game, making the offense more unpredictable and difficult for defenses to defend against.

As the Commanders prepare to face the Lions, Brown’s recent success should give fans confidence that he can continue to be a reliable option in the passing game. His ability to stretch the field and make big plays will be crucial in helping the Commanders secure a victory against Detroit and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Overall, Dyami Brown’s emergence has been a welcome development for the Commanders, and his continued success will only make them a more dangerous team as they push for a playoff spot. Look for Brown to make a significant impact in this week’s game against the Lions and help lead the Commanders to victory.

  • Jarren Duran signs 1-year contract with club option with Red Sox

was among the top players in the American League during the 2024 season, and on Friday, the 28-year-old outfielder was financially rewarded for his performance.

The Red Sox announced they agreed to terms on a one-year contract featuring a 2026 club option with Duran, a first-year arbitration-eligible player who had not previously settled prior to the Jan. 9 deadline to do so. A source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand that Duran will receive $3.75 million this year, with a $100,000 buyout on the option, which is worth $8 million.

The club did not announce the terms of the agreement, which also features incentives. Duran’s 2026 option has escalators based on AL MVP Award finishes and/or All-MLB placement, and he could earn up to $150,000 in performance bonuses in ‘25, a source told Feinsand.

Boston has no remaining players eligible for salary arbitration, so it will avoid going to a hearing.

Duran had a breakout year in 2024, when he finished eighth in the AL MVP voting. The ‘18 seventh-round Draft pick led the Majors in doubles (48) and tied for the MLB lead in triples (14) while hitting .285 with 21 home runs, 75 RBIs and an .834 OPS over 160 games. His 8.7 bWAR ranked fifth in the Majors and fourth in the AL.

Thanks to that offensive performance as the Red Sox’s everyday leadoff hitter — and the strong outfield defense to go along with it, including 12 assists — Duran was named to the All-MLB second team.

Before last season, Duran had shown flashes of his potential during his big league career, which began in 2021. His best showing to that point had come in ‘23, when he hit .295 with an .828 OPS over 102 games. He took another big step forward in ‘24.

Last July, Duran became the first Red Sox player to hit a home run in the All-Star Game since Adrián González in 2011, swatting the decisive go-ahead two-run homer in the AL’s 5-3 victory at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Duran was the fifth Boston player to earn MVP honors at the Midsummer Classic, joining Carl Yastrzemski (1970), Roger Clemens (‘86), Pedro Martinez (‘99) and J.D. Drew (2008).

In 2025, Duran will look to lead Boston back to the postseason for the first time since ‘21. He has yet to participate in a playoff game during his four-year big league career, but that could change this upcoming season, as the Sox will aim to contend in the AL East.

Duran was the fourth and final arb-eligible player on the Red Sox roster to agree to terms. They avoided arbitration with left-hander Garrett Crochet ($3.8 million) and righties Tanner Houck ($3.95 million) and Kutter Crawford ($2.75 million) last week.

The Boston Red Sox have officially signed outfielder Jarren Duran to a 1-year contract with a club option for the 2023 season. The exciting young prospect has shown tremendous potential in the minor leagues and is poised to make an impact at the major league level.

Duran, who was selected by the Red Sox in the 7th round of the 2018 MLB Draft, has quickly risen through the ranks of the organization with his impressive speed, athleticism, and hitting ability. In 2021, he made his major league debut and showcased his skills with his speed on the basepaths and solid defense in the outfield.

With this new contract, the Red Sox are showing their commitment to Duran and their belief in his ability to contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming season. Fans can look forward to seeing Duran continue to develop and make a name for himself in the Red Sox lineup.

Stay tuned for more updates on Jarren Duran and the Red Sox as they prepare for the 2022 season. Let’s go Red Sox! #JarrenDuran #RedSoxNation

  • Intel Arc B570 review featuring the ASRock Challenger OC: A decent budget option with a few deep cuts

The Intel Arc B570 picks up where the Arc B580 left off, namely with an even lower price point of $219. On paper, that’s 12% cheaper, but it also comes with a 10% reduction in core counts, 3.5% lower clocks, and most importantly a 17% reduction in VRAM capacity and bandwidth. If you’re trying to save money it might be worth considering, but the value proposition isn’t as strong as the B580. It will compete with the best graphics cards of the rising generation, but only by virtue of very likely being the least expensive new GPU that we’ll see in the coming year.

We’ve covered the Intel Battlemage architecture and the Arc B-series GPUs already. Now it’s time to see how the B570 stacks up in real-world testing. Shaving $30 off the price while also cutting the memory by 2GB may not be the best solution for gaming or AI usage going forward. But let’s start with the specifications.

The Intel Arc B570 graphics card is a budget-friendly option that promises solid performance for gamers on a budget. One of the more affordable models on the market is the ASRock Challenger OC, which offers decent performance at a wallet-friendly price point.

The ASRock Challenger OC features 8GB of GDDR6 memory and a boost clock speed of 1887 MHz, making it a good option for gaming at 1080p resolution. The card also comes equipped with a dual-fan cooler, which helps keep temperatures in check during intense gaming sessions.

One of the drawbacks of the ASRock Challenger OC is its limited connectivity options. The card only offers one HDMI port and three DisplayPort connections, which may not be enough for users with multiple monitors or VR setups. Additionally, the card lacks support for ray tracing, which may be a dealbreaker for some gamers looking to experience the latest graphical effects in their favorite titles.

Overall, the ASRock Challenger OC is a decent budget option for gamers looking to upgrade their system without breaking the bank. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of higher-end models, it offers solid performance at a reasonable price point. If you can overlook its limited connectivity options and lack of ray tracing support, the ASRock Challenger OC could be a good choice for budget-conscious gamers.

  • Why Kirk Cousins could be an option for the Browns in 2025: Mary Kay Cabot

Why Kirk Cousins could be an option for the Browns in 2025: Mary Kay Cabot

BALTIMORE — As the Browns close out the dismal 2024 season here and look ahead to the future, Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, benched two games ago in favor of No. 8 overall draft pick Michael Penix, could be one option for their upgraded quarterback room in 2025.

Most expect the Falcons to release Cousins, 36, before paying him a $10 million bonus in March, and he’ll be free to sign with any team. He’ll likely come at a bargain basement price, with the Falcons – who paid him $90 million for his nine starts – on the hook for $27.5 million minus the veteran minimum of $1.255 million that he’ll get from his new team.

With Baker Mayfield’s future in Cleveland uncertain, the Browns may be looking for a new quarterback in 2025. One option that could be on the table is Kirk Cousins.

Cousins has proven himself to be a reliable and consistent quarterback in the NFL, with a strong arm and good decision-making abilities. He has had success with both the Washington Football Team and the Minnesota Vikings, and could bring a veteran presence to the Browns’ offense.

Additionally, Cousins has experience working with Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, who was his offensive coordinator in Minnesota. This existing relationship could help Cousins quickly acclimate to the Browns’ system and potentially lead to success on the field.

While Cousins may not be the flashiest option available, he could provide stability and leadership to the Browns’ quarterback position in 2025. Keep an eye on this potential option as the offseason approaches.
