  • Michigan State’s Jeremy Fears Jr., Xavier Booker likely out vs Oregon

EAST LANSING – Michigan State basketball’s deep rotation could be down two players Saturday.

Both forward Xavier Booker and point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. are listed as questionable as the ninth-ranked Spartans host Oregon at Breslin Center. Coach Tom Izzo on his pregame radio show said Fears is unlikely to play, while Booker is possible for the noon tipoff (Fox).

“The strength in numbers,” Izzo said, “we’ll find out how strong they are.”

Michigan State forward Xavier Booker (34) dribbles against Minnesota forward Dawson Garcia (3), center, and forward Frank Mitchell (00) during the second half at Breslin Center in East Lansing on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025.

Izzo said freshman Jase Richardson will make his first career start for MSU, “so we keep the guard thing pretty evenly rotated.”

Fears, who has started all 22 games this season, is averaging 6.2 points, 6.2 assists and two rebounds a game. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound redshirt freshman missed all but 10 games last year after being shot in after Christmas in 2023.

Michigan State Spartans guard Jeremy Fears Jr. (1) dribbles down court against the USC Trojans at Galen Center in Los Angeles on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025.

Booker has come off the bench the last 19 games after starting the first three. The 6-11, 240-pound sophomore averages 6.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game.

Richardson, a 6-3 combo guard, is second on MSU at 9.3 points per game while shooting 40% from 3-point range and 52.3% overall. He also adds 2.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists a game.

Michigan State’s Jeremy Fears Jr. and Xavier Booker are likely to be out for their upcoming game against Oregon. This news comes as a blow to the Spartans, as both players have been key contributors to the team this season. Fears Jr., a redshirt freshman wide receiver, has shown promise with his speed and playmaking ability, while Booker, a senior defensive lineman, has been a force on the defensive line.

It is unclear at this time what exactly is keeping Fears Jr. and Booker out of the game, but their absence will surely be felt on the field. Michigan State will need to rely on their depth and other players to step up in their absence in order to secure a win against a tough Oregon team.

Stay tuned for updates on the status of Fears Jr. and Booker as more information becomes available.

  • Class 1 recalls for products sold in Oregon

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced several Class 1 recalls, the highest risk level, for various food products sold across multiple states, including Oregon and Washington. These recalls are primarily due to potential contamination or undeclared allergens.

Braga Fresh, a self-proclaimed organic farming company, has voluntarily recalled specific 12-ounce bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets sold at Walmart locations in 20 states, including Oregon, Washington, California, and the Tri-State area.

The recall is due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The affected broccoli, marked with UPC code “6 81131 32884 5” and lot code “BFFG327A6,” has a best-by date of Dec. 10.

Although the product is no longer available on shelves, some customers may still have it in their freezers.

Braga Fresh advised consumers not to consume the product and to discard it. “This voluntary advisory does not apply to any other Marketside or Braga Fresh produced products,” the company emphasized. As of Dec. 27, no illnesses have been reported.

MORE ON BROCCOLI RECALL: Broccoli sold at Walmart in OR, WA, and other states recalled over Listeria concerns

In a separate recall, Frito-Lay has recalled bags of Lay’s potato chips sold in Oregon and Washington due to possible undeclared milk, following a consumer contact alert.

The FDA issued a Class 1 alert for this recall. “Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product,” an FDA spokesperson said. Consumers are instructed to discard the product immediately.

The recalled bags could have been purchased as far back as Nov. 3, 2024, according to the FDA.

No other Lay’s products, flavors, sizes or variety packs are recalled, the FDA said. So far, no allergic reactions related to this recall have been reported.

MORE ON LAYS RECALL: FDA issues Class 1 alert for Lay’s chips recall in Oregon and Washington

Additionally, the FDA has elevated the recall of certain Cal Yee Farms chocolate products to a Class 1 status.

The recall, initially announced on Dec. 12, involves dark chocolate walnuts, yogurt-coated almonds, and butter toffee, which may contain undeclared allergens such as milk, soy, wheat, sesame, FD&C #6, and almonds.

These products were distributed across nine states, including Oregon, California, and Arizona.

Cal Yee Farms stated that the recall followed an FDA inspection of their facility. “No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products,” the company said. Customers are advised to dispose of the products or return them for a full refund.

The FDA also reclassified a recall of Kirkland Signature brand smoked salmon, sold at Costco, to a Class 1 recall due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The recall affects 111 cases of smoked salmon in twin 12-ounce packages, with UPC 0 96619 25697 6, Lot 8512801270 with the best by date of 11/13/2024. Consumers who purchased the product should throw it away or return it to Costco for a refund.

MORE ON SALMON RECALL: FDA issues Class 1 recall for salmon sold at popular retail chain

The FDA warned that Listeria can cause “serious and sometimes fatal infections” in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Attention Oregon consumers! Here are the latest Class 1 recalls for products sold in our state. Make sure to check your pantry, fridge, and medicine cabinet for these potentially harmful items:

    1. Fresh Express bagged salads: Several varieties of Fresh Express bagged salads have been recalled due to possible contamination with E. coli. Check the expiration date on your salad bags and return them to the store for a full refund.

    2. Pfizer’s Advil products: Certain batches of Advil products, including Advil Liqui-Gels and Advil PM, have been recalled due to mislabeling issues. Make sure to double-check the lot number on your bottles and return them to the store for a replacement.

    3. Tyson chicken nuggets: Tyson Foods has recalled certain batches of chicken nuggets due to possible contamination with foreign materials. If you have purchased Tyson chicken nuggets recently, check the packaging for the affected lot numbers and return them to the store for a refund.

Stay safe and informed, Oregon consumers! Keep an eye out for these Class 1 recalls and take action to protect yourself and your family.

My Nebraska vs Oregon College Basketball Betting Preview

Nebraska bounced back in a big way on Thursday, taking down Illinois in overtime. The Illini were shorthanded, but it was a much-needed win to snap a six-game losing streak.

That said, I don’t trust the Huskers on the road, given they rank 218th nationally in Haslametrics’ away-from-home metric. And this could be a good letdown spot as they travel to the Pacific Northwest following a massive upset win.

Meanwhile, this is a huge bounce-back opportunity for Oregon, as the Ducks are returning home after dropping both legs of their two-game road trip this past week (Minnesota and UCLA).

    The situational spot screams Ducks.

The schematic matchup is a little more fuzzy. Oregon loves to work through Nate Bittle in the post, and Nebraska’s compact defense denies the post at one of the nation’s highest rates.

However, the Ducks are no strangers to working inside-out, as they have a bevy of elite shooting guards and wings.

Meanwhile, the Cornhuskers’ compact scheme will allow plenty of open triples, and they’re a horrific pick-and-pop defense, which will allow Bittle those opportunities.

On the other end of the court, Nebraska’s dribble handoff offense could earn some shots against Dana Altman’s amoeba zone defense.

However, the Ducks are also elite in catch-and-shoot denial, which is important against the Huskers, who struggle when Brice Williams isn’t making shots.

In terms of predictions, this game is shaping up to be a close one. Nebraska has shown improvement in recent seasons and will be looking to make a statement against a tough Oregon team. On the other hand, the Ducks have a strong roster and will be a formidable opponent for the Cornhuskers.

  • Dillon Gabriel’s Senior Bowl helmet to honor Oregon, Oklahoma, UCF

Dillon Gabriel’s Senior Bowl Helmet Pays Tribute to Oregon, Oklahoma, and UCF

Dillon Gabriel, the standout quarterback from the University of Central Florida, has been turning heads at the Senior Bowl with his impressive skills and leadership on the field. But it’s not just his performance that has caught the attention of fans and scouts – it’s also the helmet he’s been wearing during practices and drills.

Gabriel’s helmet is a unique tribute to the three schools he has been a part of during his college career – Oregon, Oklahoma, and UCF. The helmet features the signature colors and logos of each school, with a special design that seamlessly blends all three together.

The Oregon Ducks’ iconic green and yellow is prominently displayed on one side of the helmet, while the Oklahoma Sooners’ crimson and cream adorns the other side. In the center, UCF’s black and gold colors are proudly showcased, creating a striking and eye-catching look that pays homage to Gabriel’s journey through college football.

Not only does the helmet serve as a visual representation of Gabriel’s collegiate career, but it also symbolizes the diverse experiences and opportunities he has had at each school. From the fast-paced offense of Oregon to the historic tradition of Oklahoma and the underdog mentality of UCF, Gabriel’s helmet reflects the different aspects of his football journey.

As Gabriel continues to impress at the Senior Bowl and prepares for the next chapter of his football career, his helmet serves as a reminder of the impact and influence that each school has had on his development as a player and a person. It’s a fitting tribute to the schools that have shaped him into the talented quarterback he is today.

  • UCLA Bruins vs. Oregon Ducks: How to watch NCAA Basketball online, TV channel, live stream info, start time

    Halftime Report

UCLA and Oregon have shown up to the game, but their offenses sure haven’t. UCLA has a bit of a cushion as they currently lead Oregon 40-26.

UCLA entered the match having won four straight and they’re just one half away from another. Will they make it five, or will Oregon step up and spoil it? We’ll know soon.

    Who’s Playing

    Oregon Ducks @ UCLA Bruins

Current Records: Oregon 16-4, UCLA 15-6

    What to Know

Oregon and UCLA are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but not for long. Both will face off in a Big Ten battle at 10:30 p.m. ET on Thursday at Pauley Pavilion. Coming off a loss in a game the Ducks were expected to win, they now face the more daunting task of proving themselves against unfavorable odds.

Last Saturday, Oregon came up short against Minnesota and fell 77-69.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Brandon Angel, who earned 18 points in addition to five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in threes (three). Another player making a difference was TJ Bamba, who went 5 for 8 en route to 15 points plus two steals.

Oregon struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That’s the fewest offensive rebounds they’ve posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, UCLA waltzed into their contest on Monday with three straight wins… but they left with four. They came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 82-76.

UCLA’s success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aday Mara led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Mara is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he’s now posted two or more in the last three games he’s played. Eric Dailey Jr. was another key player, going 6 for 10 en route to 16 points plus six rebounds and two steals.

Oregon’s loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-4. As for UCLA, their victory bumped their record up to 15-6.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Oregon hasn’t had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 77.9 points per game. However, it’s not like UCLA struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging 75.9. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.

While only Oregon took care of their fans the last time they played, neither team managed to cover. Looking forward, UCLA is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by 4.5 points. They might be worth a quick bet since they’ve covered the spread the last six times they’ve played Oregon.

    Odds

UCLA is a 4.5-point favorite against Oregon, according to the latest college basketball odds.

The oddsmakers had a good feel for the line for this one, as the game opened with the Bruins as a 3.5-point favorite.

    The over/under is 140.5 points.

  • Oregon vs UCLA Prediction, Odds and Picks – Pickswise

The Oregon Ducks hit the road for a rematch with the UCLA Bruins on Thursday at Pauley Pavilion. The Ducks lost their last time out at Minnesota, 77-69, but the over still did cash. The total has ended up going 3 of the past 4 games, and the total has gone over in 5 of the past 7 outings as well. These former Pac-12 combatants, now members of the Big Ten, last met on December 8 in Eugene. The Bruins came away with a 73-71 win as a 3.5-point underdog while the over comfortably cashed. Oregon has managed 77.9 points per game, and the Ducks are hitting 75.5 percent from the free-throw line, which is crucial for over bettors as well. Oregon doesn’t leave a lot of points on the floor, which bodes well for the over in Thursday’s contest.

For the Bruins, they’ve picked up four consecutive victories, going for 82 or more points in three of those wins. The over has cashed in six of the past seven outings, as UCLA has also allowed 70 or more points in 6 of the past 7 outings. In this series, the over has cashed in each of the past 3 meetings since Feb. 3, 2024, when the teams were competing in the Pac-12. UCLA is a strong defensive team, allowing just 65.1 points per game, but the Bruins are allowing teams to hit 43 percent from the field, and 33 percent from behind the 3-point line. Let’s back the over in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Oregon vs UCLA Prediction, Odds and Picks

The Oregon Ducks are set to take on the UCLA Bruins in what promises to be an exciting college football matchup. Both teams have had solid seasons so far, with Oregon boasting a 4-1 record and UCLA sitting at 3-2. In this post, we’ll break down the key factors to consider when making your prediction for this game, as well as provide our expert picks and odds for the matchup.

    Key Factors to Consider:

    1. Oregon’s Defense: The Ducks have one of the best defenses in the country, allowing just 17.4 points per game. They will need to continue their strong play on that side of the ball in order to contain a potent UCLA offense led by quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

    2. UCLA’s Offense: The Bruins have been putting up big numbers on offense, averaging 36.4 points per game. They will look to exploit any weaknesses in Oregon’s defense and put up points early and often.

    3. Home Field Advantage: UCLA will have the advantage of playing at home, which could give them an extra boost in what is expected to be a close game.

    Prediction:

This game has all the makings of a high-scoring affair, with both teams possessing strong offenses. However, we believe that Oregon’s defense will be the difference-maker in this matchup. The Ducks have shown that they can shut down even the most explosive offenses, and we expect them to do just that against UCLA.

    Odds:

According to the latest odds, Oregon is currently favored by 3.5 points, with the over/under set at 58.5 points.

    Picks:

Our pick for this game is for Oregon to cover the spread and win outright. We also like the over on the total points, as we expect both teams to put up big numbers on offense.

In conclusion, Oregon’s defense and overall talent give them the edge in this matchup against UCLA. Look for the Ducks to come out on top in a high-scoring game. Good luck with your bets!

  • After being ‘punked’ by Oregon State in OT loss, Gonzaga looking to flip script in second meeting with Beavers

Over the last two weeks, Gonzaga players and coaches have used a variety of words to characterize recent performances that haven’t matched up to the program’s lofty standards.

    “Dead.”

    “Embarrassed.”

    “Super frustrating.”

Senior forward Ben Gregg pulled out another term Saturday to describe what happened the last time Gonzaga faced Oregon State, and where the Bulldogs need to improve in order to avenge a 97-89 overtime loss in Corvallis two weeks ago.

“I feel like we got punked the last time we played them,” said Gregg, an Oregon native who was recruited by Wayne Tinkle’s staff at Oregon State coming out of Clackamas High School. “I feel like I got punked personally. So yeah, it’s something I’ve got to look inside myself and figure out what I need to do and come in with a better mentality and not let that happen again.”

Gonzaga’s latest result, a 43-point rout of Portland at the Chiles Center, was a positive step at a time when Mark Few’s program couldn’t settle for anything less, but the team’s progress likely won’t be measured until the Bulldogs get through a challenging two-game West Coast Conference stretch that begins Tuesday at home against Oregon State (8 p.m., ESPN2) and resumes Saturday with a visit to first-place Saint Mary’s (8 p.m., ESPN).

Players and coaches confronted hard truths about where the Zags were after conceding 200 points in consecutive losses to Oregon State and Santa Clara and Few said the team would be starting “at ground zero” when they returned to the practice floor a few days later. Gonzaga didn’t leave much doubt in its next game, reaching the century mark with nearly three minutes to play at Portland while turning the Pilots over 15 times.

Afterward, Few was asked how much the Zags could take from a blowout win against a bottom-tier WCC team they’re expected to beat soundly.

More than one might imagine, it turns out.

“We don’t usually win like this on the road and quite frankly we were coming off two losses,” Few said. “There’s a lot to learn from this. You’re wondering what the response is going to be. We don’t lose much up there, very rarely lose two in a row. So practices were hard, times are a little tense and you don’t quite know how your team’s going to respond. It was a great response.”

As for how much will translate against a superior Oregon State team? That’s still to be determined.

Gonzaga can’t expect things to come quite as easy on Tuesday facing a Beavers team that shot 58% from the field and got to the foul line 37 times while scoring a season-high 97 points in the last meeting.

The Beavers put up those numbers in front of a sellout home crowd at Gill Coliseum – the school’s first since 2019. Inevitably, it’ll be more difficult to replicate that level of production against a Gonzaga team that’s made lineup and schematic changes to address concerns on the defensive end. Further, it could be hard for OSU to replicate those same offensive numbers on the road, where the Beavers are just 1-4 this season and averaging 71.6 points.

“We don’t lose games, especially two in a row,” Gregg said on Saturday. “Every game from here on out is going to be a Super Bowl for us, because that’s how everybody treats it when they come in and play us. That’s the same approach we have to have even if we’re playing, whoever it is. It’s going to be a different approach I think and obviously playing at home helps, too.”

Few identified defensive breakdowns at all five positions when the Zags and Beavers met two weeks ago and the box score reflected as much.

Michael Rataj, a 6-foot-9 forward who ranks second in the WCC averaging 21.7 points per game (conference games only), scored 29 against GU and is coming off a 30-point outing against Santa Clara. Nate Kingz, a 6-foot-5 guard, made a trio of 3-pointers on his way to a 20-point night. Gonzaga had trouble at times containing 6-foot point guard Damarco Minor and, at the opposite end of the spectrum, struggled with 6-foot-9 bruising center Parsa Fallah, who had 16 points.

“It’s a big, physical team,” Few said. “They stung us at a lot of positions. Their point guard played well, their big wing shot the ball really well, their bigs went at us. So they’re a handful. Tink has mixed up his defenses well, so it’s a short turnaround. We play them in a couple days, so we’ll have to get after it.”

Winning on Tuesday would push Gonzaga (15-6, 6-2) two games ahead of Oregon State (16-6, 7-3) in the WCC standings and give the Bulldogs their first victory over the Beavers since 1932. OSU’s overtime victory in Corvallis also gave the Beavers their 13th consecutive win in the series.

“Back home, need that dub,” senior forward Michael Ajayi said. “They had us back in Oregon and we can’t wait. We’ll be starting our coverages and all that tomorrow, so no days off. We’re ready for them.”

After being ‘punked’ by Oregon State in OT loss, Gonzaga looking to flip script in second meeting with Beavers

Gonzaga had their hearts broken in a tough overtime loss to Oregon State earlier this season. The Beavers pulled off a stunning upset, handing the Bulldogs just their second loss of the season. But now, Gonzaga is looking for redemption as they prepare for their second meeting with Oregon State.

The Bulldogs are determined to come out stronger and more focused this time around. They know they have the talent and the drive to defeat the Beavers, and they are ready to show it on the court. With a renewed sense of purpose and a chip on their shoulder, Gonzaga is looking to flip the script in their upcoming matchup.

Head coach Mark Few has been pushing his team to learn from their mistakes and come out swinging in their second meeting with Oregon State. The Bulldogs are working hard in practice, fine-tuning their game plan, and preparing to take on their opponents with everything they’ve got.

Gonzaga knows they have what it takes to come out on top in their rematch with Oregon State. With their eyes on the prize and a desire for redemption, the Bulldogs are ready to show the Beavers what they’re made of. Stay tuned for what promises to be an intense and thrilling showdown between these two powerhouse teams.

The Oregon State Beavers hit the road for McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane, Wash. to face the Gonzaga Bulldogs in a rematch between these West Coast Conference combatants. They just met in Corvallis on Jan. 16 in the first-ever meeting as WCC rivals, with the Beavers picking up a 97-89 win in overtime as +9 underdogs — as the over (151) easily connected. Oregon State had 5 players hit double-digits in points, including Michael Rataj going for 29 points with 7 rebounds, while Nate Kingz was good for 20 points with four boards and a trio 3-pointers. The Beavers are on quite the roll, cashing against the spread in 6 of the past games, while the Over is on a 6-0 run — going 10-1 in the past 11 if you’re looking for a Same Game Parlay.

As for Gonzaga, it paddled Portland 105-62 as a -24.5 favorite with the over (162.5) hitting for the third straight game. The over is also 5-1 in the past 6 games for the Zags. Their win over the Pilots halted a 2-game losing streak and the cover snapped an 0-4 ATS skid. Gonzaga is still just 2-11 ATS in the past 13 games. While the over looks like a strong play, taking the Beavers with the points is an even better option.

The highly anticipated matchup between the Oregon State Beavers and the Gonzaga Bulldogs is set to take place this weekend. Both teams are coming off strong performances and are looking to continue their winning streaks.

The Beavers have been playing exceptional basketball lately, with standout performances from Ethan Thompson and Jarod Lucas leading the way. They have shown great chemistry on the court and have been able to execute their game plan effectively. On the other hand, the Bulldogs have been dominant all season, with a perfect record and a high-powered offense led by Drew Timme and Jalen Suggs.

In terms of odds, the Bulldogs are favored to win this matchup. They have been a force to be reckoned with all season and have shown no signs of slowing down. However, the Beavers have proven to be a tough team to beat, especially when playing at home.

In terms of prediction, this game is expected to be a close and competitive matchup. Both teams have the talent and skill to come out on top, but the Bulldogs may have the slight edge due to their overall dominance this season. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Beavers put up a fight and possibly pull off an upset, but the safe bet would be on the Bulldogs to come out victorious.

Our pick for this game is Gonzaga Bulldogs to win, but expect a close and exciting game between these two talented teams.
