Sidney Crosby unfazed by Connor McDavid’s temper outburst vs. Canucks: ‘That’s hockey’

LOS ANGELES — Very few players in hockey history can relate with the kind of attention and on-ice abuse that Connor McDavid receives on a regular basis.

Sidney Crosby is one of them.

McDavid, after being held to the ice by Vancouver’s Conor Garland for a handful of seconds in the final moments of the Canucks’ 3-2 win on Saturday, lost his temper and cross-checked the Canucks forward in the face. It earned McDavid a three-game suspension, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Monday.

“I saw the cross-check,” Crosby told The Athletic following the Penguins’ morning skate in Los Angeles on Monday, about three hours before the suspension was levied. “But I couldn’t tell if it was his glove or his stick that hit him in the face.”

Crosby said that, in his view, that makes a difference. In other words, if it was McDavid’s glove that struck Garland in the face, it wasn’t a huge deal. But if it was his stick, then it’s a different story.

“It’s hard to say how bad it was from the angle that was available,” Crosby said. “You’re splitting hairs.”

Crosby has been the victim of considerable abuse in his NHL career, notably being cross-checked in the head by the New York Rangers’ Marc Staal and the Columbus Blue Jackets’ Brandon Dubinsky. He is also more than familiar with what Garland did to McDavid.

Throughout hockey history, great players have to deal with such things and don’t always receive the benefit of the doubt from officials.

Crosby and McDavid have never been teammates at any level, but that will change next month when they will both represent Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off in Montreal and Boston. Like he has done for more than a decade, Crosby will captain Team Canada. McDavid will enter the tournament universally viewed as the world’s greatest current player.

Crosby held that distinction for many years and possesses a unique understanding of McDavid’s plight. Crosby has dropped the gloves out of frustration 10 times in his career, most recently in November when he fought Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor. Crosby has never been disciplined by the NHL and has never been involved in an incident like this.

McDavid has never been assessed a fighting major, though he did drop the gloves twice while playing for the Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League.

“It’s like anything,” Crosby said. “Sometimes your emotions get the best of you. It’s a physical sport. The one time you see that, you probably didn’t see there nine hits that Connor took. Those ones are the ones that never make the highlights. When you retaliate, you make the highlights.”

Crosby knew there was a good chance that McDavid would get suspended. While the Penguins captain grimaced when talking about the idea of cross-checking someone in the face, he seemed relatively unfazed.

“Whether it’s him or anyone else, it’s an emotional game,” Crosby said. “That’s going to happen sometimes. If there were calmer or cooler circumstances, he probably wouldn’t have done that.”

The circumstances, of course, were not calm nor cool.

“That’s hockey,” Crosby said.

Sidney Crosby unfazed by Connor McDavid’s temper outburst vs. Canucks: ‘That’s hockey’

In a recent game between the Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks, superstar Connor McDavid let his emotions get the best of him as he unleashed a rare temper outburst on the ice. However, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was quick to dismiss the incident, chalking it up to the intensity of the game.

When asked about McDavid’s outburst, Crosby simply shrugged and said, “That’s hockey. Emotions run high, especially in a fast-paced game like hockey. It’s not uncommon to see players get frustrated and let their emotions show. It’s just part of the game.”

Crosby’s nonchalant response to McDavid’s outburst highlights the unwavering focus and composure that has made him one of the greatest players in the game. Despite the drama on the ice, Crosby remains unfazed and continues to lead by example with his professionalism and sportsmanship.

As two of the biggest stars in the NHL, Crosby and McDavid are no strangers to the pressures and demands of being in the spotlight. While McDavid’s outburst may have raised eyebrows, Crosby’s calm and collected demeanor serves as a reminder that in the world of hockey, keeping a cool head is key to success.

In the end, Crosby’s reaction to McDavid’s outburst reinforces the notion that in the fast-paced and high-stakes world of professional hockey, it’s important to stay focused, composed, and above all, respectful of the game.

UConn’s Dan Hurley Berated Referee for Walking Away From Him During Heated Outburst

Danny Hurley blew up on an official again on Tuesday night and this time he reminded the offending referee of just how good a coach he is.

During a dead ball with 2:58 left in the first half of UConn’s matchup with Butler, Hurley wanted to talk to one of the game’s officials. He yelled at said official, who proceeded to turn and walk away. That only set Hurley off more. He then unleashed a quote that is sure to live on for a while.

As the official walked away, Hurley appeared to say, “What are you doing to me? Don’t you big time me, I’m the best coach in the f—ing sport.” I’m not a professional lip reader but it was pretty clear that’s at least very close to the actual quote.

Judge for yourself:

Hurley is likely the best coach in college basketball right now and his back-to-back national championships make that case for him. But that doesn’t mean he should say it out loud on national television.

This is nowhere near the first time Hurley has exploded on officials or that his on-court antics have been questionable. College basketball fans are a bit fed up with how he acts during games and after. This will only add fuel to that fire.

In a recent game, UConn’s head coach Dan Hurley was caught on camera berating a referee for walking away from him during a heated outburst. The incident occurred after a controversial call that didn’t go in UConn’s favor, and Hurley was clearly frustrated with the referee’s decision.

Hurley could be seen yelling and pointing at the referee, demanding an explanation for the call. However, the referee appeared to try to diffuse the situation by walking away, which only seemed to further infuriate Hurley.

The video quickly went viral on social media, with many fans and analysts criticizing Hurley for his behavior. Some argued that his actions were unprofessional and disrespectful, while others defended Hurley for standing up for his team.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue, it’s clear that emotions were running high in the heat of the moment. It will be interesting to see if any disciplinary action is taken against Hurley for his outburst, or if he will issue an apology for his behavior. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

Stefanos Tsitsipas told ‘this is the last thing to tell a woman’ in Paula Badosa outburst | Tennis | Sport

Stefanos Tsitsipas was told off while watching Paula Badosa’s mid-match outburst.

The ATP No. 12 crashed out in the opening round of the Australian Open but his girlfriend is still alive and faced Marta Kostyuk in a tight third-round contest.

During the match, Badosa struggled with the wind and vented to her box. And a commentator told Tsitsipas that his response was “the last thing you want to tell a woman”.

Badosa found herself embroiled in a rollercoaster match on Friday as she faced 17th seed Kostyuk. The Spaniard took the first set 6-4 but suddenly fell 0-5 behind in the second.

Tensions boiled over during the next changeover as Badosa shouted over at her box, wildly gesturing about how windy it was and even offering her racket to her team so they could attempt to play in her place.

Tsitsipas, who was sat among Badosa’s coaches, got involved and tried to calm his girlfriend down. However, commentator Chanda Rubin wasn’t impressed with his response.

“The back and forth from Tsitsipas. It’s been windy and she was hand-miming the struggles she has had,” she said.

“And this is maybe the last thing you want to tell a woman that you’re in a relationship with. Calm down? Excuse me? You come play! And she was asking him, do you want to play today?”

Badosa found a new gear after unleashing her emotions, storming back to win four games in a row. But her deficit was too big and she couldn’t get back into the set as Kostyuk took it 6-4.

The No. 11 seed eventually survived, winning 6-4 4-6 6-3 to book her spot in the second week. Afterwards, she clarified that her outburst was aimed at her coach, not Tsitsipas.

“First of all, it wasn’t with Stefanos. It was with my coach,” she laughed.

“No, but I get it because now I was before coming here, I was on social media, and everyone was, like, Paula and Stefanos. They like to create all that because, of course, it’s going to get more views if they say Stefanos than if they say my coach.

“I’m always interacting with my coach, honestly. He’s the one that’s there with me. Stefanos is just a support. It’s emotional support. But he’s been supporting me so, so much on that.”

Badosa also took to social media to defend her boyfriend, tweeting: “I wasn’t with Stef it was with my coach that was in front of Stef. Let’s not try to create drama. Stef was the best supporter out there.”

The Spanish tennis star will now face either Jessica Pegula or Olga Danilovic for a spot in the quarter-final.

Stefanos Tsitsipas told ‘this is the last thing to tell a woman’ in Paula Badosa outburst | Tennis | Sport

Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas found himself in hot water after a heated exchange with Spanish player Paula Badosa during a recent match. In a moment captured on camera, Tsitsipas can be heard telling Badosa, “this is the last thing to tell a woman” before storming off the court.

The incident has sparked controversy and raised questions about gender equality in tennis. Many fans and analysts have criticized Tsitsipas for his comments, with some calling them sexist and disrespectful.

Tsitsipas has since apologized for his outburst, saying that his words were taken out of context and that he meant no offense. However, the incident has reignited a conversation about the treatment of women in sports and the need for greater respect and equality.

As the tennis world continues to grapple with issues of sexism and discrimination, it is clear that there is still much work to be done. Let’s hope that incidents like this serve as a wake-up call for all players to treat each other with respect and dignity, regardless of gender.
