Pacers should deal Myles Turner at 2025 NBA Trade Deadline, or else
- Myles Turner has been linked to the Lakers for years, but that rumor will become reality during free agency. The Pacers had better realize it, and deal him before Thursday’s 2025 NBA trade deadline.
- By trading Anthony Davis for Dallas’ Luka Doncic, the Lakers need a big man ASAP to capitalize on LeBron James’ final year(s). Turner will be a free agent after the season. Think he’d turn down L.A.?
- But Davis’ arrival in Dallas means one of the Mavericks’ two young centers, 7-1 Derek Lively II or 6-10 Daniel Gafford, is available. Either would look great in a Pacers uniform
For years we’ve debated, wondered, argued – OK, obsessed – over the future of Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner. Which big man stays in Indianapolis, Turner or Domantas Sabonis?
That was settled with the 2022 trade that sent Sabonis to Sacramento for Tyrese Haliburton, but the debate, wonderment, argument – OK, obsession – over Turner’s future remained. Should he be traded? Will he be traded? When will he be traded?
It’s been a circular argument, the kind of thing that goes nowhere – a roundabout without an exit – and over time the answer has become evident: Only a seismic event, like an asteroid hitting Earth, will change the course of things. Barring that asteroid, Myles Turner will retire a Pacer.
Don’t look up, but…
An asteroid is coming this way. Not to get all hysterical on you – watch the 2021 Netflix movie “Don’t Look Up,” and tell me it’s wrong – but Asteroid 2024 YR4 has been detected 27 million miles away, a stony land mass roughly the size of a football field that has, in blandly terrifying language, “a non-zero probability of hitting Earth” on Dec. 22, 2032.
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
What does this have to do with Myles Turner? Nothing. But the discovery of something even more shocking than 2024 YR4 has changed everything. Put it like this: What was the chance the Los Angeles Lakers would trade away LeBron James’ buddy, center Anthony Davis? Zero. What was the chance the Lakers would acquire Luka Doncic? Zero.
What’s zero multiplied by zero?
It’s 100%, apparently, because that trade happened – and the Pacers are on a path toward becoming collateral damage.
You can see where this is going, can’t you?
You wonder if the Pacers see it.
NBA trade deadline:Trade rumors persist with Myles Turner. It makes sense for Pacers to deal him — and keep him.
Pacers center Myles Turner to the Lakers?
Here’s what I love about Pacers President Kevin Pritchard: He’s a real person, with a real heart and real emotions and real human tendencies. In other words, he can get fooled by the people on his own roster because he sees the best in them, because he wants to see the best in them. He learned that trait from the best, from Larry Bird, who saw in Paul George a forever Pacer who would do whatever the team asked, even playing power forward.
Yeah, well.
Pritchard inherited that belief when he replaced Bird in 2017 – at least the part about George being a forever Pacer – because George insisted he was staying and people around here, Pritchard and fans and media, heard what they wanted to hear.
George was lying, and once Pritchard figured it out, he sent him to Oklahoma City for Victor Oladipo and Sabonis.
Then it happened again, with Pritchard seeing the best in Oladipo for years, and for years that made sense. Oladipo was almost too good to be true.
Almost.
Oladipo started changing, and the Pacers were among the last to accept it, but eventually Oladipo was sent on his un-merry way.
Doyel in 2017: Pacers finally get the message – Paul George is gone
Doyel in 2021: Oladipo didn’t want to be here, so Pacers replace him with Caris LeVert
Now, Turner.
Listen, Myles Turner hasn’t changed any. Well, yeah he has: He’s grown up. Look, he was 19 when he was drafted. Imagine being 19, with family gassing you up, a city gassing you up, Larry Bird gassing you up. It went to Turner’s head. But he’s come back to Earth, in a happy way – no asteroid there – and become not just the team’s elder statesman, but a consistent player. Now 29, Myles Turner circa 2025 is not Paul George circa 2017 or Victor Oladipo circa 2020.
But he is leaving after this season. No idea if he’s telling the Pacers that. No idea if he’s even telling himself that. But sometimes you’ve got to look at the facts, strip way the nonsense, and make a decision.
Here are the facts:
Without Davis, the Lakers need a center. They’ve always needed more players – more shooters – to space the floor for LeBron, and they’ll need that even more with Doncic. And given LeBron’s age, they need it now.
For some reason, Myles Turner has been linked to the Lakers for years. Has there been a kernel of truth to it, a shred of interest on the Lakers’ part? Probably, sure. Just last week, when the news – or rumor or whatever it was – broke that Turner and the Pacers weren’t on the same page, fiscally, regarding his next contract, guess where that came from? From a Lakers beat writer. Wonder how that happened…
Until now, the rumors linking Turner to the Lakers have felt like nonsense. The Pacers weren’t trading Myles Turner to the Lakers. They weren’t trading him anywhere. Not unless an asteroid came around.
Sure enough.
NBA trade deadline:5 things Pacers could do at NBA trade deadline
Dallas center Daniel Gafford or Dereck Lively II to the Pacers?
Myles Turner will be a free agent after this season. Let me ask you something:
You think he won’t listen to the Lakers? Think he won’t tell them yes?
Have you lost your mind?
He’s gone. Which means the Pacers have no choice but to trade him before the 2025 NBA trade deadline, Thursday at 3 p.m. EDT, or risk the decidedly non-zero chance of losing him for zero after the season.
Only question, really, is where? Where do the Pacers trade Turner? Maybe a team out there with NBA title hopes will run the risk of a four-month rental, and hope that Turner’s time there pays off so big that he decides to stay as a free agent. Or maybe the Lakers have enough capital right now or bring a third or even fourth team into the mix and make a run at Turner before 3 p.m. Thursday.
Whatever the case, the Pacers have an obvious need to trade Turner in the next 36 hours, and an equally obvious player to pursue as his replacement:
Mavericks center Daniel Gafford. Or Dallas teammate Dereck Lively II.
One of those guys has to go. With Davis, the Mavs now have three starter-quality centers in a league where most teams have just one, and some have none. The arrival of Davis makes Gafford or Lively expendable, and while neither has shown the ability to shoot 3’s, the Pacers need a high-quality big man – someone who can defend the rim and run the pick-and-roll with Haliburton – to replace Turner. Gafford and Lively both shoot 70% from the floor.
Gafford’s 26. Lively turns 22 next week. Advantage, Lively.
Gafford’s under contract through next season, and will earn $14.4 million in 2025-26. Lively would be under team control through the next two seasons, and will earn less than $12.5 million – total – in those two years. Advantage, Lively.
Gafford is 6-10, 234 pounds. Lively is 7-1, 230. Advantage, Lively.
Gafford averages 12.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.4 assists in 21.6 minutes. Lively averages 9.1 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.7 bpg and 2.6 apg in 24 minutes. Advantage, barely, Gafford. Then again, given Lively’s youth, call it a wash.
Bottom line: Lively’s the one to get if possible, but Gafford would be just fine. Their advanced metrics are close, with Gafford’s offensive edge canceling out Lively’s defensive edge. Neither gets as much playing time as Turner, but the analytics prefer Gafford or Lively to Turner, who shoots 40% on 3’s but just 54.7% on 2’s (again, both Gafford and Lively shoot 70% from the floor).
Either Gafford or Lively would look tremendous in a Pacers uniform next season. Turner of course would look sensational as well, but it’s not happening. Los Angeles will come calling, and Turner will say yes. Don’t see what you want to see. See what’s going to happen.
Look up, people. Look up. The asteroid’s coming, with a much better than non-zero chance of hitting Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The Indiana Pacers should strongly consider trading Myles Turner at the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline, or risk missing out on valuable assets for the future. Turner, while a talented player, has struggled with consistency and injuries in recent years, making him a potential trade chip for the Pacers to capitalize on.By dealing Turner, the Pacers could potentially acquire draft picks, young talent, or other assets that could help them build a stronger team moving forward. With the NBA landscape constantly evolving, it’s important for teams to be proactive in making moves that will benefit them in the long run.
If the Pacers choose to hold onto Turner past the trade deadline, they run the risk of missing out on potential trade opportunities and not maximizing his value. It’s crucial for the organization to assess their roster and make decisions that will benefit the team in both the short and long term.
In conclusion, the Pacers should seriously consider trading Myles Turner at the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline in order to secure a brighter future for the team. Making a move now could pay off in the long run and set the Pacers up for success down the road.

Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff defends Isaiah Stewart’s ejection after he drilled Thomas Bryant in loss to Pacers
Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart was ejected on Wednesday night after he took out Indiana Pacers big man Thomas Bryant with a hard forearm randomly in the first half.
Midway through the second quarter of the 133-119 loss in Indianapolis, Stewart looked like he was going to try and box Bryant out after a shot when he suddenly hit him hard out of nowhere in the chest and neck area. The shot sent the 6-foot-10 center crashing back down to the court as others worked to get the rebound.
Almost immediately, officials threw Stewart out of the game and he took off for the locker room. Bryant got up and briefly tried to go after Stewart, but he was held back before he could really get anywhere.
“I have to be better at not letting those words allow me to affect the team. I know my squad could have used me out there tonight.”
It’s unclear what kind of talk Stewart was referring to or what was said specifically. If anything was said, though, it had to have been earlier in the game. Stewart and Bryant weren’t close enough to be jawing right before Stewart drilled him.
Regardless, the apparent commentary was enough for Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff to forcefully defend Stewart’s actions.
“There’s things that happen on the basketball court that you have to deal with. Then there are certain things that are said to you that are no longer about basketball,” Bickerstaff said. “When it crosses that line like it did tonight, you should be able to stand up for yourself. … There was things said tonight that absolutely crossed the line, past basketball to man-on-man stuff. And if someone says something like that to you that crosses the line, you should have every single right to do what you need to do to defend yourself.”
The Pacers led nearly the entire way on Wednesday night while grabbing the 14-point win. Pascal Siakam led the way with 37 points and six rebounds, and Tyrese Haliburton finished with 30 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. The Pacers have now won 10 of their last 12 and sit at 26-20 on the season.
Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 32 points and nine assists, and Tobias Harris finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. Stewart had a point and an assist in eight minutes when he was ejected. The 23-year-old is averaging 5.5 points and six rebounds per game this season, his fifth with the Pistons.
While a clear shot like the one Stewart took will get a player ejected every time, it’s not often that you see a head coach defending those actions. But he’s not backing down, whether it’s with Stewart or bigger picture.
“It is absolutely my responsibility to defend our guys when we feel like things aren’t balanced, and I will never, never stop doing that,” Bickerstaff said. “Again, our guys will earn the respect of this league, but it’s my responsibility to defend them. Whatever is happening out on the floor, whether it’s opponents, whether it’s referees, it doesn’t matter to me. My job is that, and I will always do that.”
Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff defends Isaiah Stewart’s ejection after he drilled Thomas Bryant in loss to PacersDetroit Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff is standing by rookie center Isaiah Stewart after he was ejected for a hard foul on Indiana Pacers forward Thomas Bryant during a recent game.
Stewart, known for his physical style of play, caught Bryant with a forearm to the face as he drove to the basket. The referees immediately called a flagrant foul 2, resulting in Stewart being ejected from the game.
Despite the ejection, Bickerstaff believes Stewart’s intentions were not malicious and that he was simply trying to make a play on defense.
“Isaiah is a young player who plays with a lot of energy and intensity. He was just trying to make a play on the ball and unfortunately things got a bit out of hand,” Bickerstaff said in a post-game press conference.
Bickerstaff went on to say that he supports Stewart and his aggressive style of play, but understands the need for him to be more cautious in situations like this.
“We don’t want to see anyone get hurt on the court, so it’s important for Isaiah to be mindful of his actions and make sure he’s playing within the rules of the game,” Bickerstaff added.
Stewart has since apologized for the incident and expressed regret for his actions. The Pistons ultimately fell to the Pacers in a close game, but Stewart’s ejection remains a topic of discussion in the basketball world.
As the Pistons move forward, Bickerstaff will continue to work with Stewart on improving his technique and decision-making on the court to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

The Atlanta Hawks are set to take on the Indiana Pacers in a highly anticipated matchup. Both teams are coming off strong performances and will be looking to continue their winning ways in this game. The odds for this game are very close, with the Pacers being slight favorites at -2.5. The over/under is set at 225.5 points, indicating that it could be a high-scoring affair.
In terms of picks and predictions, I believe that the Pacers will come out on top in this game. They have been playing well recently and have a strong home court advantage. With players like Malcolm Brogdon and Domantas Sabonis leading the way, I think the Pacers will be able to outscore the Hawks and secure the victory.
However, the Hawks are a talented team as well, with Trae Young leading the way. They have the ability to keep this game close and potentially pull off the upset. It could come down to which team is able to execute their game plan better on both ends of the floor.
Overall, I expect a competitive and exciting game between these two teams. The Pacers have the slight edge in this matchup, but anything can happen in the NBA. It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds on game day.

Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton picks John Cena to win WWE Royal Rumble
Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton has a clear and favorite pick for the 2025 Royal Rumble at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday.
Before WWE Smackdown on Friday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Haliburton was interviewed by former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee.
“I’m expecting a lot of energy,” Haliburton said. “Indy deserves this. I’m really excited about it and it’s going to be a lot of fun. So let’s do it.”
Haliburton said he will be at the Royal Rumble after the Pacers play the Hawks at 5 p.m. at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. For a prediction of the men’s Royal Rumble match? The crowd chanted for CM Punk, but Haliburton had other ideas.
“Does that mean I’m supposed to agree?” Haliburton said. “Give me John Cena!”

What is the Royal Rumble?
Royal Rumble is a 30-wrestler match in which two wrestlers begin in the ring, and another enters every 90 seconds. A wrestler is eliminated when he or she goes over the top rope and both feet touch the floor. Detroit’s Isaiah Stewart suspended and fined by NBA after flagrant-foul ejection in loss to Pacers
NEW YORK (AP) — Isaiah Stewart of the Detroit Pistons was suspended by the NBA on Friday for one game without pay after the forward/center picked up a sixth flagrant-foul point this season.
The league announced the suspension Friday, along with a $50,000 fine for Stewart making “inappropriate and objectionable gestures” after his ejection Wednesday in the Pistons’ 133-119 loss to the Pacers at Indiana.
Stewart received a Flagrant 2 and was ejected in the second quarter. Stewart entered the game with four flagrant-foul points, so the call triggered the automatic suspension based on the league’s regular-season protocols.
The 6-foot-8, 250-pound Stewart is averaging 5.4 points and 5.8 rebounds.

Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart has been suspended for two games and fined $45,000 by the NBA following his ejection for a flagrant foul in the team’s loss to the Indiana Pacers.Stewart’s incident occurred in the third quarter of the game on Saturday when he got tangled up with Pacers forward Isaiah Jackson and appeared to hit him in the face as they were jockeying for position under the basket. The officials reviewed the play and assessed Stewart with a flagrant foul 2, resulting in his ejection from the game.
The NBA announced the suspension and fine on Sunday, citing Stewart’s “reckless and dangerous” actions on the court. Stewart will miss the Pistons’ upcoming games against the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks as a result of the suspension.
This is not the first time Stewart has been involved in a physical altercation on the court this season. Just last month, he was involved in an altercation with LeBron James that resulted in both players being ejected from the game.
Stewart has been a key player for the Pistons this season, averaging 8.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. His absence will be felt by the team as they look to bounce back from their loss to the Pacers and continue to improve throughout the season.

Pacers’ Pascal Siakam selected as an NBA All-Star – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Pacers forward Pascal Siakam was selected as a reserve for the NBA All-Star Game.
This is Siakam’s third All-Star nod, and his first since the 2022-23 season.
He’s averaging 20.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game for the Pacers this season. Siakam has played and started in every game so far.
Siakam is also having easily his best season from beyond the arc, shooting 41.8% from three, a career high.
He had his highest scoring game as a Pacer on Wednesday, putting up 36 points in their win against the Pistons.
After the game, Siakam was asked what it would mean if he was selected as an All-Star.
“I’m blessed to be a part of this team,” Siakam said. “The support that I’ve had since I’ve been here has been just amazing. I don’t think I’ve had an organization just showing so much support from top to bottom but it’s been awesome and I’m so grateful for it. It would mean a lot to represent the Pacers out there in All-Star Weekend.”
His teammate Tyrese Haliburton had no doubt that Siakam deserved to be an All-Star when he was asked on Tuesday.
“It’s no question,” Haliburton said. “Just ask the coaches. Ask other players. It’s not a debate. People just got to use their eyes and watch the game.”
Haliburton added that Pascal’s been helping to lead the charge for the Pacers in flipping their season around. After starting the season 9-14, the Pacers are 17-6 in their last 23 games.
NBA coaches select the All-Star reserves. Haliburton said the coaches typically reward winning and playing the right way, and Siakam does just that.
This is Siakam’s second year and first full season with the Pacers. He was acquired in January 2024 for Bruce Brown, Jordan Nwora, and three first round picks.
The Pacers re-signed Siakam as a free agent in July for a four-year deal worth $189.5 million.
He was critical in the Pacers run to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2024. Siakam led the Pacers in scoring in the postseason, averaging 21.6 points per game.
The All-Star Game is on Sunday, February 16 at 8 p.m. EST.
The Indiana Pacers have another player representing them in the NBA All-Star game this year. Pascal Siakam has been selected to the All-Star team, making it his second appearance in the prestigious event.Siakam has been a key player for the Pacers this season, averaging 20.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. His versatility on both ends of the court has been a major factor in the team’s success this season.
Fans in Indiana are excited to see Siakam showcase his skills on the big stage and represent the Pacers in the All-Star game. Congratulations to Pascal Siakam on this well-deserved honor!

Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton Surprisingly Snubbed From NBA All-Star Game
The 2025 NBA East All-Star reserves have been announced, and there is one deserving name surprisingly missing from the roster.
The NBA has officially announced the reserve squad for the Eastern Conference squad, and point guard Tyrese Haliburton is nowhere to be seen.
While his numbers are down from last season, Haliburton’s output is still impressive, averaging 18.3 points, 8.6 assists, 3.6 total rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game across 45 games.
However, another member of the Pacers made the list: power forward Pascal Siakam, who has averaged 20.5 points, 7.3 total rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 0.9 steals per game across 46 games this season.
no question about it.

The other members of the Reserve roster include Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics, Darius Garland of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons, Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Damian Lillard of the Milwaukee Bucks, and Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat.

The NBA All-Star Game rosters were announced recently, and there was one notable snub that has fans and analysts scratching their heads. Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers, who has been having a breakout season, was surprisingly left off the list of All-Stars.Haliburton has been one of the most impressive young players in the league this season, averaging 17.9 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game. He has been a key contributor for the Pacers and has shown that he has the potential to be a future star in the NBA.
Many fans and analysts were shocked to see Haliburton left off the All-Star roster, especially considering his impressive statistics and impact on the Pacers’ success this season. Some believe that he was overlooked due to the deep pool of talent in the Eastern Conference, while others argue that he simply deserved a spot on the team.
Regardless of the reasons behind his snub, one thing is clear: Tyrese Haliburton has proven himself to be a rising star in the NBA, and it won’t be long before he earns his spot in the All-Star Game. Pacers fans can take solace in the fact that their young guard is only going to get better from here.

Pacers’ Pascal Siakam named to third NBA All-Star Game
INDIANAPOLIS — Pascal Siakam will be an All-Star for the third time and his first as a member of the Indiana Pacers.
The 6-8 power forward — acquired by the Pacers last January from Toronto after earning two All-Star trips, two All-NBA nods and an NBA championship ring with the Raptors — was one of seven players named Eastern Conference All-Star reserves on Thursday night through a vote of league coaches. The All-Star Game — which this season will be a mini-tournament — will be held at 8 p.m., ET on Feb. 16 at the Golden State Warriors’ Chase Center in San Francisco and televised on TNT.
When asked about the possibility of making the team on Wednesday after a season-high 37 points in the Pacers’ win over the Pistons, he said it would be particularly rewarding because it would allow him to represent his new franchise on the All-Star stage for the first time.
“The support that I’ve had since I’ve been here has been amazing,” Siakam said. “I don’t think I’ve ever had an organization show so much support from the top to the bottom. It’s been awesome. I’ve been grateful for it and it would mean a lot to represent the Pacers out there on All-Star weekend.”
Siakam has been the Pacers’ most consistent player since he was acquired. Last season he led the Pacers in scoring in the 41 regular season games after he was acquired with 21.3 points per game, then led them in scoring in the playoffs during their Eastern Conference finals run with 21.6 points per game.
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
This year, he’s leading them with 20.2 points per game in one of the most efficient seasons of his career, shooting 52.6% from the floor and a career-best 41.3% from 3-point range. His .585 effective field goal percentage is the second best of his career behind the 2018-19 season when he posted a .591 mark and won Most Improved Player honors while helping the Raptors claim the NBA title. He also leads the Pacers in rebounding with 7.4 per game and ranks fourth in assists with 3.4 per game behind only Tyrese Haliburton, T.J. McConnell and Andrew Nembhard, all point guards by trade. He’s also fourth on the team in total steals with 41 and has been a key piece to the Pacers’ swiftly improving defense. He ranks third among Pacers regulars and second to Nembhard among starters in defensive rating at 109.0.
The Pacers leaned heavily on Siakam in their first 25 games, especially with Haliburton in a shooting slump. They started 10-15, but they are 16-5 since and they won 10 of their 12 games in the month of January. At 26-20, they are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, three ahead of the sixth-place Magic and just a half-game behind the fourth-place Bucks.
“Pascal’s been one of the most consistent players all year long,” Carlisle said. “He’s a 20 and 8 guy every single night.”
This will be Siakam’s first All-Star appearance since 2023. He was also an All-Star in 2020.
This is the third straight year the Pacers have put a player in the All-Star game. Point guard Tyrese Haliburton was named to the team the last two seasons, though he missed inclusion this year after a tough start to his season.
Siakam was joined on the Eastern Conference reserves by Boston forward Jaylen Brown, Bucks guard Damian Lillard, Cleveland forward Evan Mobley and guard Darius Garland, Heat guard Tyer Herro and Pistons guard Cade Cunningham. The starters, announced last week, are Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell, Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns.
The Indiana Pacers’ forward Pascal Siakam has been named to his third NBA All-Star Game. Siakam, who was previously selected as an All-Star in 2020 and 2021, has once again proven himself as one of the top players in the league.Siakam has been a key contributor for the Pacers this season, averaging 21.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. His versatility on both ends of the court has been instrumental in helping the team compete at a high level.
Pacers fans can look forward to seeing Siakam represent their team on the big stage once again as he takes part in the All-Star Game festivities. Congratulations to Pascal Siakam on this well-deserved honor! #Pacers #NBAAllStar
