  • Pistons vs Pacers: Isaiah Stewart ejected

INDIANAPOLIS — After their Jan. 16 game ended with lots of heated conversation and posturing, the Pacers and Pistons are already going at it and have already drawn double technical fouls and one player has been ejected.

Pistons center Isaiah Stewart — who made fun of Pacers center Myles Turner for his Lego-building hobby in the last verbal skirmish — got into it with Pacers veteran James Johnson Jr., known around the NBA as the guy no one wants to fight. Stewart and Johnson were assessed double technical fouls. The incident came with 3:32 to play in the first quarter and the Pacers leading 31-22.

Later in the second quarter, Stewart hit Pacers big man with an forearm to the chest and knocked him over. Stewart was immediately sent to the Pistons’ bench and Bryant got up ready to get after him but was held back. Officials ruled that the action involved a wind-up and was an unnecessary action and therefore a Flagrant 2 foul, leading to Stewart’s ejection. He was booed heartily on his way off the floor. Ben Sheppard seemed to wave goodbye to him as he was leaving and Stewart pointed out him forcefully as he entered the tunnel to the visitor’s locker room.

The Pistons’ Cade Cunningham then drew a techincal with 7:06 to play in the second quarter.

In a heated matchup between the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers, Isaiah Stewart was ejected after a scuffle on the court. The game took a dramatic turn as tensions flared between the two teams, leading to Stewart’s ejection. Stay tuned for updates on this intense game! #Pistons #Pacers #IsaiahStewart #Ejected #NBA.

  • Pacers’ Andrew Nembhard, Bennedict Mathurin out against Pistons

INDIANAPOLIS — Pacers guards Andrew Nembhard and Bennedict Mathurin are both out for Wednesday’s game against the Pistons, coach Rick Carlisle said in his pre-game press conference.

Nembhard was listed as questionable with a thoracic spine sprain and Mathurin was a late addition to the injury report with an illness. Carlisle said Nembhard’s back flared up in the Pacers’ game against the Spurs in Paris on Saturday and he said the flight home didn’t help. He said Mathurin wasn’t feeling well on Wednesday and when he came to the team’s pre-game walkthrough it got worse and Mathurin left the building. Carlisle said he presumes it’s a non-COVID illness but can’t say for certain because they don’t know much about it at this point.

Nembhard and Mathurin are the Pacers’ starters at shooting guard and small forward respectively, so the losses are obviously costly. Nembhard is averaging 10.6 points and 5.2 assists per game this season and has been the team’s best on-ball defender, which hurts the Pacers against the Pistons and All-Star candidate Cade Cunningham.

“That’s a big loss for this game for obvious reasons,” Carlisle said. “But we’re gonna have to figure it out. That’s why you have to build a roster with depth and our depth is gonna have to come through for us.”

Mathurn has greatly improved his defense and is still as dynamic of a scorer as he’s always been averaging 16.4 points per game to go with 5.9 rebounds.

The injuries will most likely lead to the promotion of wings Ben Sheppard and Aaron Nesmith to the starting lineup. Nesmith was the starting small forward for most of last season and the first six games of this season until a sprained left ankle cost him 35 games. Sheppard has started eight games over the last two seasons. The injuries also likely mean more minutes for Jarace Walker, who has played a little over 25 minutes in the last three games with Nesmith and Mathurin both available.

This article originally appeared on Indianapolis Star: Pacers injury update: Andrew Nembhard, Bennedict Mathurin ruled out

The Indiana Pacers will be without guards Andrew Nembhard and Bennedict Mathurin for their upcoming game against the Detroit Pistons. Nembhard is dealing with a lower back injury, while Mathurin is sidelined with a sprained ankle.

These absences will be a blow to the Pacers as they look to secure a crucial win against the Pistons. Nembhard has been a key contributor for the team this season, averaging solid numbers in points, assists, and steals. Mathurin, a rookie, has also shown promise and provided valuable minutes off the bench.

The Pacers will need to rely on their depth and next man up mentality to overcome these injuries and come out on top in this matchup. Fans will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Nembhard and Mathurin as they look to get back on the court and help the team in their playoff push.

  • Detroit Pistons at Indiana Pacers odds, picks and predictions

The Detroit Pistons (23-23) face the Indiana Pacers (25-20) Wednesday. Tip-off from Gainbridge Fieldhouse is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NBA odds around the Pistons vs. Pacers odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions for the best bets.

    Season series: Pacers lead 2-1

The Pistons enter on a 2-game skid, recently falling 110-91 as 10.5-point underdogs at the Cleveland Cavaliers Monday with the Under (235.5) hitting. G Cade Cunningham had 22 points and 7 assists in the loss. C Jalen Duren, who is emerging as a force in the middle, had 12 points with game-hits in rebounds (16) and blocks (3). This is the last stop on a 5-game road trip in which the Pistons are 2-2.

The Pacers split a 2-game series in France with the San Antonio Spurs with Saturday’s finale resulting in a 136-98 victory. G Tyrese Haliburton had 28 points and drained 6-of-9 from downtown for Indiana, which covered as a 2.5-point favorite with the Over (229.5) cashing. The Pacers are 8-2 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) over their last 10 games.

    Pistons at Pacers and predictions

    Prediction

    Pacers 114, Pistons 111

    Moneyline

There is NO PLAY here, especially with Indy at -275. The Pistons (+220) beat the Pacers handily in their house 130-106 — Detroit was a 5-point road underdog in that Nov. 29 meeting.

PASS. Let’s look to the spread.

    Against the spread

The Pacers are so feast or famine, and a lot of it has to do with the rollercoaster that Haliburton has been. I don’t know if he’s hurt or pacing himself, but you see him in a back brace on the bench and look at his up-and-down season and have to wonder. His last 5 game point totals are: 28, 13, 9, 17 and 2.

It’s that inconsistency and the hard travel back from France that makes me look to the PISTONS +6.5 (-102).

    Over/Under

The Pistons are 4-6 O/U in their last 10, and the Pacers are 3-6-1. The Under has also cashed in 4 of the last 5 meetings between the teams.

It falls just short again. TAKE UNDER 232.5 (-115).

  • NBA Trade Rumors: Pacers ‘Not Sure They Want to’ Pay Myles Turner $30M+ Contract | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA - JANUARY 14: Myles Turner #33 of the Indiana Pacers looks on prior to the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on January 14, 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Indiana Pacers are reportedly hesitant about giving their veteran center a big extension this offseason.

Per The Athletic’s Jovan Buha, Myles Turner’s future with the Pacers could be in question due to his impending free agency and a potential disconnect in contract talks.

“It’s specifically just a basic contract situation of he is about to be an unrestricted free agent and he’s going to want $30-plus million and I’ve heard Indiana is not sure if they want to give him $30-plus million,” Buha said on his YouTube channel on Saturday (40:00 mark). “If they don’t, then from an asset management perspective, it makes sense to trade him and get something back for him.”

Buha also noted earlier this week that he’s heard “a little bit of chatter” about the Pacers’ willingness to trade Turner.

Turner, a 10-year veteran who has played his entire career with Indiana, is in the final season of a two-year, $58 million extension he signed in 2023. While some of his numbers have trailed off, he’s still been great for the Pacers, putting up 15.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game, the fifth-best mark in the league.

A handful of teams would likely put in an offer for Turner if he were to become available, and the Los Angeles Lakers would presumably be among the interested squads. Los Angeles is on the cusp of being a contender but is likely at least one move away. Earlier this week, Lakers star Anthony Davis said that move should be adding to the frontcourt.

“I think we need another big,” Davis told ESPN’s Shams Charania. “I feel like I’ve always been at my best when I’ve been the 4, having a big out there.”

It might be tough to land Turner given that the Lakers don’t have much trade capital, but putting the big man next to Davis and LeBron James would make Los Angeles a team to watch in the Western Conference.

The Indiana Pacers are facing a tough decision regarding the future of center Myles Turner. According to recent rumors, the team is “not sure they want to” pay Turner a contract worth $30 million or more.

Turner, who has been with the Pacers since being drafted 11th overall in 2015, has shown flashes of brilliance on both ends of the court. He is known for his shot-blocking ability and has improved his three-point shooting in recent years.

However, with the NBA salary cap constraints and the team’s desire to build a competitive roster, the Pacers are hesitant to commit a large sum of money to Turner. This uncertainty has sparked rumors that the team could explore trading Turner in the offseason.

While nothing has been confirmed, the speculation has caught the attention of NBA fans and analysts alike. Turner’s future with the Pacers remains uncertain, but one thing is for sure – this situation will be one to watch as the offseason unfolds.

However, with his contract set to expire soon, the Pacers are weighing their options. While they value Turner’s contributions, they must also consider the financial implications of giving him a hefty contract extension.

With other teams reportedly interested in acquiring Turner via trade, the Pacers are under pressure to make a decision. Will they be willing to pay up for Turner’s services, or will they explore other options?

  • Pacers Could Land $60M Center in Massive Move Ahead of Trade Deadline

The Indiana Pacers have completely bounced back from a slow start to their season. The Pacers have put themselves in a position to make a massive splash ahead of the upcoming trade deadline in the NBA.

Indiana has a strong roster but they may need just a little more firepower to truly compete against the other elite teams in the Eastern Conference. In this new trade idea, the Pacers go all-in and land a multi-time All-Star center to boost their chances.

The deal would be between the Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and Atlanta Hawks. After using the Spotrac trade machine and abiding by the new CBA restrictions in place, here is what the deal would look like between the three teams:

    Pacers receive: Nikola Vucevic

Bulls receive: Clint Capela, Isaiah Jackson, and a 2025 first-round draft pick

    Hawks receive: Obi Toppin, Talen Horton-Tucker, a 2025 second-round draft pick, and a 2030 second-round draft pick

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – NOVEMBER 04: Walker Kessler #24 of the Utah Jazz and Nikola Vucevic #9 of the Chicago Bulls battle for a rebound during the second half at the United Center on November 04,…

    Why Pacers do this

Indiana doesn’t need to do anything but adding a player like Vucevic could drastically change the outcome of their year. Vucevic is an All-Star-level talent who could provide more size to this Pacers rotation.

Myles Turner is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the year so he would also give Indiana some insurance if he were to leave. Indiana wants to retain Turner but there is no guarantee that he will return once he goes onto the open market.

    Why Bulls do this

Chicago has been looking to move Vucevic for some time as they enter into a rebuild. In this deal, they would land an expiring $22 million contract in Capela, giving them some financial flexibility heading into the offseason.

The Bulls also land an additional first-round draft pick for the upcoming year. The 2025 draft class is considered to be a strong one so the Bulls could heavily benefit from having the extra draft pick.

    Why Hawks do this

Atlanta has been looking to possibly move Capela before the trade deadline and they would land a nice player in Toppin for him. With Capela being a free agent at the end of the year, the Hawks make sure they receive something for his services.

The team also would get a few extra draft picks to potentially use in other deals down the line. Atlanta has played better of late but Capela still seems like he could be on the move ahead of the deadline.

The Indiana Pacers are reportedly in talks to potentially land a $60M center in a massive move ahead of the upcoming trade deadline. This potential acquisition could have a significant impact on the team’s roster and playoff aspirations.

Rumors have been swirling around the Pacers organization as they look to bolster their frontcourt and add a dominant presence in the paint. With a $60M center on the table, the team could see a major upgrade in their defensive capabilities and rebounding prowess.

While the details of the potential trade remain undisclosed, fans are buzzing with excitement at the prospect of adding such a high-caliber player to their roster. The Pacers are currently sitting in a competitive position in the Eastern Conference, and this move could solidify their standing as a force to be reckoned with.

As the trade deadline approaches, all eyes will be on the Pacers organization to see if they can pull off this blockbuster move and secure the services of a $60M center. Stay tuned for updates as the situation continues to develop.

  • NBA insider suggests this controversial Pacers trade is more possible than we thought

The NBA Trade Deadline is less than two weeks away, and Indiana Pacers fans are wondering what the team will do. Earlier in the season, they traded for Thomas Bryant from the Miami Heat to ensure their center depth. They have yet to make another deal, however, and could be in a position to do so in order to help them now and in the long run.

Up to this point, the only trade rumor the Pacers have been a part of is potentially trading for Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson. However, there is another trade possibility that Pacers fans may want to monitor that involves moving on from a player instead of getting one in return.

Jake Fischer suggests the Pacers may trade Myles Turner

On a recent episode of the Dunc’d On Basketball NBA Podcast (at the 21:34 mark), NBA insider Jake Fischer spoke about Myles Turner’s impending free agency. While Fischer did not say the Pacers are actively looking to trade Turner, he acknowledged that his asking price for his new deal may not be one the team is willing to give him.

“Right now, every rival executive I’ve spoken to has said that they don’t anticipate Indiana wanting to pay the salary that Myles Turner is, in theory, going to be looking for…he’s going to want 30 [million per year],” Fischer said. “People want $30 million right now, it’s going to be twice the mid-level… there’s so much skepticism that Indiana’s going to want to do it.”

We are only halfway through the season, and there is no other indication that the Pacers have interest in moving on from Turner. However, Fischer’s report is interesting nonetheless. If it is true, then the Pacers may be better off trading Turner within the next couple of weeks to get some value back from him as opposed to letting him walk in the offseason for nothing.

The interesting hypothetical in a potential trade involving Turner is who the Pacers’ new center would be. As it stands, the Pacers do not have a single primary center under contract next season (unless they accept James Wiseman’s team option, which seems unlikely). Additionally, there is no upgrade over Turner that is readily available, especially one who would be as good of a fit on this team, particularly on offense. If the Pacers do end up moving on from Turner, it would cause even more problems than many may realize.

At this point, it does not seem likely that the Pacers will trade Turner. However, if there is a genuine belief that he will prove to be too expensive for the team to re-sign, the Pacers may be better off making this move, even given the potential risks.

With the NBA trade deadline rapidly approaching, rumors are swirling about potential moves that could shake up the league. One trade that has caught the attention of fans and analysts alike is a proposed deal involving the Indiana Pacers.

According to a trusted NBA insider, there is a growing belief within the league that the Pacers could be open to trading away star player Domantas Sabonis. While this may come as a shock to some, the insider suggests that Sabonis’ value on the trade market is higher than ever and the Pacers could potentially get a strong return in exchange for the talented big man.

The proposed trade that has garnered the most attention involves the Pacers sending Sabonis to a contender in exchange for a package of young players and draft picks. While this move would undoubtedly be a bold one for the Pacers, it could also signal a shift in the team’s direction and a commitment to building for the future.

While nothing is set in stone, the NBA insider’s suggestion that this controversial Pacers trade is more possible than we thought has certainly sparked a debate among fans and analysts. Only time will tell if the Pacers ultimately decide to pull the trigger on this potential blockbuster deal.

  • Pacers Reportedly Not Willing to Part With Significant Assets For $94M Forward

The Indiana Pacers are one of the teams that everyone will be watching when it comes to the trade deadline. They have been playing good basketball recently, despite their blowout loss to the Spurs on Thursday.

Because of their good play, they have been looked at as a team that could possibly make a big move at the trade deadline. They have the assets to do such a thing.

Now that they have Aaron Nesmith back, they have a logjam at small forward. Bennedict Mathurin has played very well in place of Nesmith in the starting lineup.

Jarace Walker has started to play much better as well. That means that one of the three forwards could be on the move.

The Pacers have been linked to one of the biggest names on the trade deadline. They have been linked to have interest in Cameron Johnson of the Brooklyn Nets.

Johnson is coveted by multiple teams in the NBA. The Nets know that, so they are looking to extract the most they can in exchange for him.

According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, the Pacers might not be willing to give the Nets exactly what they want in exchange for Johnson. They reportedly want a first-round pick in addition to some players to match the salary.

Johnson would be slotted to play small forward if he were to head to Indiana. With Pascal Siakam at the power forward spot, it would be the only spot he could play in the starting lineup.

Indiana needs help with some defense. Tyrese Haliburton is the worst defender in the starting lineup, so surrounding him with as much length as possible is ideal.

The Pacers still have a shot to make a big trade if they want to make one. They could also sit pat and use Nesmith returning from injury as their big midseason acquisition.

If the Pacers are going to make a move at the deadline, they would likely make a big move as opposed to something small. They already did that with the Thomas Bryant trade.

The Indiana Pacers are standing firm in their stance to not part with significant assets for a $94 million forward, according to recent reports.

Despite the high price tag attached to the player, the Pacers are reportedly not willing to make a major trade that would deplete their roster or future draft picks.

While the forward in question may be a talented player, the Pacers are prioritizing their long-term success and are unwilling to jeopardize their team chemistry or future prospects.

It remains to be seen how this decision will impact the Pacers’ performance in the upcoming season, but it is clear that they are taking a cautious approach when it comes to making significant roster moves.
