A first look at snow in the Panhandle
OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – NewsChannel 7 is getting a first look at snowfall in the Panhandle.
I-10 in Okaloosa County appears to be covered in snow.
At this time officials have not closed any roadways. FDOT will be monitoring conditions on the road throughout the day.
FHP reports there is snow and ice on the roadway and to approach the area with caution.

Winter has finally arrived in the Panhandle, and with it comes the first snowfall of the season. As residents wake up to a blanket of white covering the landscape, it’s a sight to behold.Children are already out in the yards, building snowmen and having snowball fights, while adults are busy shoveling their driveways and sidewalks. The trees are dusted with snow, creating a picturesque scene that seems straight out of a postcard.
The roads may be slick and slippery, but the beauty of the snow-covered landscape makes it all worth it. As the sun rises and glistens off the snow, it’s a reminder of the magic and wonder that comes with the winter season.
So bundle up, grab a hot cup of cocoa, and enjoy this first look at snow in the Panhandle. It may be cold outside, but there’s something truly special about the first snowfall of the year.

#snow #PanhandleTexas crash claims lives of elderly couple | Panhandle
HALE COUNTY, Texas — A tragic collision at the intersection of US 70 and FM 179 claimed the lives of a 96-year-old man and an 89-year-old woman from Olton, Texas, on December 28, 2024.
The crash involved a 2022 Chevrolet pickup and a 1997 Peterbilt truck tractor, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.The deceased, Robert Curtis Dennis and Mary Hatley Dennis, were traveling in the Chevrolet pickup when it failed to yield the right of way while turning onto US 70, resulting in a collision with the eastbound truck tractor driven by a 26-year-old man of Elmore City, Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma man was not injured in the crash, and both vehicles were traveling under clear weather and dry road conditions, stated the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
