When is next full moon February 2025? How to watch planetary parade
February’s full moon will shine before Valentine’s Day with an added bonus view of Venus — named after the Roman goddess of love — during the month’s rare planetary parade.
Stargazers are in for a treat this month, besides the snow moon, the planet Venus will shine at its brightest for the year after sunset, according to NASA. Then Mars and Jupiter will rule the nighttime skyline, with a pop-in from Mercury and a fainter view of Saturn.
Here’s all about February’s full moon and how to watch the planetary parade.
When is the next full moon in February 2025?
The next full moon is on Wednesday, Feb. 12, with peak illumination at 8:53 a.m. Eastern. The best view of this moon will be the night before of night after, according to the Almanac.

What are the moon phases for February 2025?
- First Quarter: Feb. 5.
- Full Moon: Feb. 12.
- Last Quarter: Feb. 20.
- New Moon: Feb. 28.
Why is the February moon called the snow moon?
The February moon is also known as the snow moon according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, a reference to the typically heavy snowfall that occurs in that month.
In the 1760s, Captain Jonathan Carver visited a Native American tribe and wrote the snow moon was so named “because more snow commonly falls during this month than any other in the winter.”
When is the planetary parade in February 2025?
This February brings a rare planetary alignment that will gather five bright planets into clear view — Venus, Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, and Saturn. The next similar alignment is expected to occur in October 2028.
- The most prominent of the five planets is Venus, which is already visible and shining in the west-southwest sky at dusk and will continue at peak brightness throughout the month of February.
- To find Saturn, simply look toward Venus and extend an imaginary line straight downward — the first bright star-like object you come across will be Saturn. It will be most visible during the first two weeks of February, becoming more difficult later in the month.
- Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system, will appear high in the south at dusk, the silvery-white planet will appear accompanied by two famous naked-eye star clusters, the Pleiades and Hyades.
- Look halfway up in the eastern sky for orange-yellow Mars, which comes into view as night falls. It will be accompanied by the “Twin Stars” of Gemini, Pollux and Castor.
- The smallest planet, Mercury, will become visible during the final week of the month. It will set just over an hour after the sun on Feb. 24.
On Feb. 24, Mercury will be in conjunction with Saturn and offer the best chance to see all five evening planets at once according to Space.com. Start looking about 30 minutes after sunset.
When is the full moon in March 2025?
The full moon in March, also known as the worm moon should reach peak illumination by Friday, March 14, 2025.
Maria Francis is a Pennsylvania-based journalist with the Mid-Atlantic Connect Team.
When is the next full moon in February 2025? Mark your calendars for February 11th, 2025, when the next full moon will illuminate the night sky.But that’s not all – this full moon will coincide with a rare celestial event known as a planetary parade. A planetary parade occurs when multiple planets line up in the sky, creating a stunning display of celestial beauty.
To watch the planetary parade during the next full moon in February 2025, find a location with clear skies and minimal light pollution. Look towards the eastern horizon just after sunset to catch a glimpse of the planets as they align in the sky.
Grab a pair of binoculars or a telescope for an even better view of the planets and their unique features. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the beauty of the night sky and the wonders of our solar system during the next full moon in February 2025.

In a rare celestial event, six planets – Venur, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus will align in a formation called the ‘planet parade’. The phenomenon will be best visible on Saturday evening, January 25.
Such astronomical phenomena are not uncommon. However, the special thing about this particular line up is the number of planets that will align together to make the formation.
The best time to watch the majestic phenomenon is around 45 minutes post sunset. One of the best parts about this celestial formation is that four planets – Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn will be visible to the naked eye after the sun sets. However, to view Uranus and Neptune, a telescope will be required.
According to experts, the planets will not be perfectly aligned in a straight line but are closely grouped on one side of the sun.
When and where to watch
In India, the Bengaluru people are in great luck. Vijay Kapoor of the Bangalore Astronomy Club notes that binoculars will allow observers to catch a glimpse of Jupiter’s moons, while Uranus and Neptune will require a telescope for clearer viewing. By March 8, Mercury will join the alignment, making it even more exciting for those interested in exploring the night sky, said a Times of India report.
To witness the phenomenon in full glory, locations with minimal light pollution are preferable, say the experts. Among excellent vantage points are Nandi Hills, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu and clear skies are a crucial part for a nice viewing of the alignment, the TOI report added.
In Gurugram, Jyoti Raghavan Khanduja, founder of Forest Spirit Learning, is organising a session in Shikohpur, Gurugram. She said, “It’s our first astronomy event, and the response from across Delhi-NCR has been great. People of all ages are booking the session to experience one-of-a-kind sky-gazing…We all need to gaze at the night sky just once. It makes us realise how small we are in nature’s scheme of things.”
In Pune and Mumbai, Piyush Arun, Strategic & Creative Head, YanamOffbeat, a trip and trek company is organising an event to view the alignment. He says, “We have one batch each on January 25 and 26 at the peak time, 8:30 pm. Our session is more than stargazing. It’s a live exploration of stars, planets and other celestial bodies.” He explains, “These sessions typically feature deep-space telescopes in locations free from light pollution. The events also include extras like meditation, Q&A with astronomers, and lakeside camping.”
Some apps such as Star Walk, Star Tracker, and Sky Map can also be used as guides to witness the planet parade.
The Planet Parade 2025 is set to be one of the most spectacular celestial events of the year, with all five visible planets lining up in the night sky. This rare alignment will provide skywatchers with a stunning display of Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, and Mercury all in a row.To catch the best view of the Planet Parade 2025, make sure to look towards the western horizon just after sunset. The planets will be visible in the evening sky from mid-March to early April, with each planet appearing at different times throughout the night.
Here’s a breakdown of when each planet will be best visible during the Planet Parade 2025:
– Venus: Look for Venus shining brightly in the western sky just after sunset. It will be the first planet to appear in the lineup.
– Jupiter: Jupiter will be next to appear, following Venus in the night sky. Look for the largest planet in our solar system shining brightly near the constellation Aquarius.
– Saturn: Saturn will be visible in the southern sky, following Jupiter in the lineup. Look for the iconic rings of Saturn as it shines brightly in the night sky.
– Mars: Mars will be the fourth planet to appear in the Planet Parade, rising in the eastern sky later in the evening. Look for the red planet near the constellation Taurus.
– Mercury: Mercury will be the final planet to appear in the lineup, rising in the eastern sky just before sunrise. Look for the smallest planet in our solar system near the constellation Pisces.
Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to witness all five visible planets in the night sky during the Planet Parade 2025. Grab your telescope or binoculars and head outside to catch this spectacular celestial event!

#Planet #Parade #visible #today #watch #Latest #News #IndiaWill the planets align in January? What to know about ‘planet parade’
Stargazers who have heard of an amazing planetary alignment coming later in January may be in for a letdown if they look up at the night sky expecting to be dazzled.
Yes, six planets will be visible in the January night sky. And yes, they’ll be in a line.
But because planets always appear in a line from our Earth-bound vantage, the alignment isn’t anything out of the norm. What’s less common, according to astronomers, is seeing so many bright planets at once.
Here’s what to know about this month’s so-called planetary parade, including how and where to see it.
The cosmos:4 events that dazzled skygazers in 2024, from total solar eclipse to northern lights
Will the planets align in January?
The planets in our solar system orbit the sun essentially along a line across the sky in a plane called the ecliptic.
For that reason, planets in our Earthly sky always appear somewhere along a line, according to EarthSky, a website dedicated to cosmic news. These events, while commonplace, are often referred to as planetary alignments.
The ecliptic is also the reason that we on Earth sometimes observe planets appearing to approach closely to each other in the sky “while they careen around the cosmic racetrack,” according to NASA.
While alignments themselves aren’t special, what could be noteworthy for stargazers is the six planets that will be visible this month – including four with the naked eye. Such an event is commonly known as a “planet parade,” though NASA noted that the moniker is not a technical astronomical term.
What is a planet parade, and what will be visible?
Planet parades are how astronomers and stargazers refer to the events when the planets form a straight line and look like they’re marching across the night sky, such as a similar parade that took place in June.
In January, four bright planets and two faint planets will be visible in the night sky.
Here’s a list of the planets that will be visible in some for this month:
Venus
Saturn
Jupiter
Mars
Uranus
Neptune
“These multiplanet viewing opportunities aren’t super rare, but they don’t happen every year, so it’s worth checking it out,” NASA said in a rundown of January sky-watching tips.
How and when to see the planetary parade
Venus and Saturn already had their close approach, called a “conjunction,” last week.
But all month after dark, spectators can find Venus and Saturn in the southwest for the first couple of hours, while Jupiter shines brightly high overhead and Mars rises in the east. All four planets will be visible to the naked eye.
Uranus and Neptune will also be around, but they won’t be appearing as brightly and will require a telescope to see, according to NASA.

The planets will indeed align in January, creating a spectacular ‘planet parade’ in the night sky. This rare celestial event will see Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn all visible in a straight line across the sky. Here’s what you need to know about this incredible phenomenon:
1. Timing: The planet parade will be visible throughout the month of January, but the best time to catch all five planets in a line will be in the early morning hours before sunrise.
2. Location: The planets will be visible to the naked eye from anywhere in the world, as long as you have a clear view of the eastern horizon.
3. Planetary positions: Mercury will be closest to the horizon, followed by Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. This alignment is a rare occurrence, so be sure to take advantage of this special opportunity.
4. Viewing tips: To get the best view of the planet parade, find a dark, open area away from city lights. Use a pair of binoculars or a telescope for a closer look at the planets.
5. Take photos: Don’t forget to capture this once-in-a-lifetime event by taking photos of the planet parade. Share your images with friends and family to spread the word about this incredible celestial alignment.
So mark your calendars and set your alarms to witness the planets align in January. This ‘planet parade’ is sure to be a stunning sight that you won’t want to miss!

Parade of the Six Planets: online observation – 25 Jan. 2025. – YouTube
Six planets will be visible in the sky tonight, forming an astronomical alignment known as a “planetary parade,” and you can watch it live online.
Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Saturn and Venus all meet up together on the same side of the sun in a wide arc above Earth — and most are visible to the naked eye under clear night skies. The Virtual Telescope Project in Italy is offering viewers a chance to catch this mesmerizing planetary alignment during a free webcast today (Jan. 25).
Starting at 12:30 p.m. ET (1730 GMT) on Saturday (Jan. 25), astrophysicist Gianluca Masi of the Virtual Telescope Project will stream live telescope views of all six of the planets in marching order. You can watch the livestream courtesy of the Virtual Telescope Project directly on their website or YouTube channel.
This type of astronomical lineup is fairly common, but what makes this month’s planetary parade extraordinary is the number of visible bright planets, including Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Venus, which doesn’t happen every year. While those four planets are bright enough to be seen by the unaided eye, spotting Uranus and Neptune requires a pair of binoculars or a telescope.
Astronomers say that while this event might be overhyped as some type of “rare alignment,” it’s actually a regular occurrence in our night sky. “It’s not exactly a rare event, but it’s a rare enough event that allows us, in our really super fast-paced world, to give us an excuse to look up and be like ‘Oh, wow. These are other worlds that we’re looking at,’” Alex Polanski, an exoplaneteer from the Lowell Observatory, told Space.com. “It’s really cool to be able to sort of get a family photo, in a way, of the entire solar system.”
TOP TELESCOPE PICK:
Want to see the planets of the solar system? The Celestron NexStar 4SE is ideal for beginners wanting quality, reliable and quick views of celestial objects. For a more in-depth look, see our Celestron NexStar 4SE review.
This planetary parade has been visible for most of the month, beginning around Jan. 18, and will continue through early February. The planets in our solar system orbit around the sun at different speeds along a plane called the ecliptic. The planets’ varying orbital speeds lead to an occasional line up on the same side of the sun when viewed from Earth.
“Hopefully that inspires a few people to keep learning and keep exploring,” Polanski said. “There’s so much universe out there. We need as many people looking up as we can.”
The four bright planets will be easily visible in the first couple of hours after sunset. Venus and Saturn will be near each other in the southwest, while Jupiter rises high overhead and Mars appears in the east. Neptune will be just above Venus and Saturn, while Uranus hovers just above Jupiter. However, both Uranus and Neptune are too far from Earth and thus too dim to be seen with the naked eye.
To view all six planets together in one sweeping view, be sure to watch the live online feed from the Virtual Telescope Project, during which Masi will provide commentary on the spectacular alignment.

San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade and Festival kicks off; Joan Chen, Carrie Ann Inaba serve as Grand Marshals
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — The Year of the Snake kicks off one week from now! The animal symbolizes transformation and renewal, fitting traits now that ABC7 is the proud broadcast sponsor for San Francisco’s Chinese New Year Parade. The parade and celebrations for the year ahead are expected to be bigger and better than ever.
Beneath the iconic red lanterns of Chinatown’s Grant Avenue, anticipation is palpable. Thousands are gearing up for the event, which draws more than 200,000 visitors from around the globe making it the largest Chinese New Year parade outside of Asia.
“Oh my God, it’s a REALLY exciting time for us,” said Brenda Ly of Oakland. “As a Chinese American, we’re always looking forward to sharing our culture with the world.”

Mark your calendars, the largest Lunar New Year Celebration outside of Asia is coming to ABC7 this February.
Visitors like Elizabeth Peterson, who traveled from Minnesota, echo the excitement. “We really relish the chances we have to experience other cultures,” Peterson said. “Minnesota has some diversity, but there’s certainly not as much as in San Francisco. It’s just a great opportunity.”
The Year of the Snake is also being celebrated by small businesses like Eastern Bakery in Chinatown, which marked its centennial last year. Donald Luu, president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the economic importance of the festivities.
“For some businesses, it generates as much as a third of their annual revenue,” Luu said.
Orlando Kuan of Eastern Bakery shared his enthusiasm: “We’re very excited for that!”

This year’s parade features an impressive lineup.
Legendary actress and longtime San Francisco resident Joan Chen will ignite the festivities by lighting the ceremonial firecrackers as the parade’s grand marshal.
Veteran “Dancing With the Stars” judge Carrie Ann Inaba will close out the event as ABC7’s grand marshal.
Additionally, Daniel Lurie, the first San Francisco mayor to hold his inauguration celebrations in Chinatown, will serve as the honorary grand marshal.
“It’s also an opportunity for San Francisco,” said Tony Lau, a parade organizer. “Our partnership with ABC7 will bring us to new platforms and showcase the best of San Francisco and Chinatown.”

Beyond the traditional floats and dragon dances, this year’s festivities will feature a new highlight-a drone show at Pier 32. “It’ll symbolize the snake and the dragon together,” Lau explained. “It’s going to be an awesome show!”
The celebrations extend far beyond the parade, with Chinese New Year events taking place citywide through early March. From the iconic Flower Fair to the “Snakes on Parade” outside Chase Center and in Union Square, there is something for everyone.
The parade route begins at 2nd and Market Streets, travels along Kearny Street, and ends near Columbus Avenue and Washington Street. Full details about the route and events can be found at ChineseParade.com.
