  • Georgia’s Parker Jones flagged for running into referee on sideline during play vs. Notre Dame

Georgia’s Parker Jones flagged for running into referee on sideline during play vs. Notre Dame

Georgia walk-on cornerback Parker Jones isn’t even dressed out for Thursday’s Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame, but he still received a penalty.

Jones bumped an official who was running down the sideline after a long pass from Gunner Stockton to Arian Smith early during the second quarter. He stepped into the white area on the sideline that is reserved for officials and the official ran into him.

Get your team’s official College Football Playoff watch from AXIA by CLICKING HERE: “Watches that tell so much more than time”

The pass from Stockton to Smith went for 67 yards, and Georgia would have had the ball at the Notre Dame 11. However, instead the ball was backed up to the 26.

Georgia ended up settling for a field goal on the drive. You can watch the penalty below:

There are situations where teams get sideline warnings for interfering with officials. However, ESPN rules analyst Matt Austin explained why I penalty was thrown on Georgia on this play.

“If there’s contact, yes,” Austin said when asked if a penalty needed to be called. “Because as Greg said, it’s dangerous down there. He’s running full speed to keep up with the play, to get a good spot. And if somebody gets in his way and there’s a collision, it’s extremely dangerous. So yea, that’s a good call.”

Greg Sankey floats idea of flipping Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl after delay of Notre Dame-Georgia

The terrorist attack in New Orleans early Wednesday morning forced the Sugar Bowl between Georgia and Notre Dame to be pushed back from Wednesday night to Thursday afternoon. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey joined The Paul Finebaum Show on Thursday and shared that it could impact next week’s College Football Playoff games, as well.

Sankey has reached out to College Football Playoff officials about the possibility of switching dates for the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl. As things stand, the Orange Bowl is scheduled to be played next Thursday night and the Cotton Bowl is slated to be played next Friday night.

The winner of Thursday’s Sugar Bowl will play Penn State in the Orange Bowl in Miami.

“Have I raised the issue of that potential change? I have,” Greg Sankey said. “I recognize that’s difficult. I don’t know if it is impossible. I raised that yesterday, and the focus quickly became today’s kickoff, today’s game and we’ll see what happens.”

In a controversial moment during the game between Georgia and Notre Dame, Georgia’s Parker Jones was flagged for running into a referee on the sideline during a play. The incident sparked debate among fans and analysts, with some questioning whether the penalty was warranted or if it was just an unfortunate accident. Regardless, it’s clear that Jones will need to be more careful in his positioning on the field to avoid any future incidents like this. What are your thoughts on this play? • Ashley Parker and Michael Scherer Join The Atlantic

Ashley Parker and Michael Scherer Join The Atlantic

    Dear everyone,

I’m writing to share the happy news that two of Washington’s most accomplished and authoritative reporters, Ashley Parker and Michael Scherer, are joining The Atlantic as part of our effort to deepen our coverage of the incoming administration, and of America’s tumultuous politics more generally.

Ashley and Michael, who both come to us from The Washington Post, have distinguished themselves as scoop-driven stylists—they are both relentless, well-sourced reporters with a keen sense of language and narrative, and a deep belief in the importance of accountability journalism. They will make great additions to our already excellent politics team. As we move into 2025, it is vitally important for us to cover Washington—the implementation of the MAGA agenda; the role of money (foreign and domestic) in our politics; the future of the Democratic Party—in the most comprehensive and rigorous way possible, and Ashley and Michael will play important roles in helping us meet our goals.

Ashley, the Post’s senior national political correspondent, is a three-time Pulitzer Prize winner who covered Donald Trump’s first term, and covered the Biden administration as White House bureau chief. Before her time at the Post, she spent 11 years at The New York Times, where she covered the 2012 and 2016 presidential campaigns and Congress, among other subjects. (She got her professional start at the Times as Maureen Dowd’s research assistant, and before that she served as a reporter and an editor at the world’s greatest college newspaper.) Ashley was part of the Post team that won a Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in 2018, for coverage of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. She was also a member of the team that won the Pulitzer for Public Service in 2022, for its coverage of the causes, costs, and aftermath of the January 6 siege of the Capitol. And she was part of the Post team that won a Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in 2024, for their coverage of the role the AR-15 plays in American culture.

Michael has been a national political reporter at the Post since 2017, focusing on campaigns and elections. Most recently, he covered the Republican presidential primaries and the inner workings of the Trump, Biden, Harris, and Kennedy campaigns. Michael’s decision to join The Atlantic represents a kind of homecoming; he is a magazine writer at heart, having previously worked at Time, first as a campaign reporter beginning in 2007, before becoming the White House correspondent and later Washington bureau chief. He wrote more than 20 cover stories for the magazine, including two Person of the Year stories, and interviewed Trump six times. Before joining Time, Michael served as the Washington correspondent for Salon, the Washington correspondent for Mother Jones, and an assistant editor at the Columbia Journalism Review. He began his career as a reporter for the Daily Hampshire Gazette in Northampton, Mass., covering local schools and city government. Michael has served on the board of the White House Correspondents’ Association, and won the National Press Club’s Lee Walczak Award for Political Excellence for his article on the 2012 Obama reelection effort, and the 2014 New York Press Club Award for Political Coverage for a cover story on the 2013 government shutdown.

Please join me in welcoming Ashley and Michael to The Atlantic.

Best wishes for a happy new year,

    Jeff

“Word” – Parker McCollum Responds To Fan Yelling “F*** Oliver Anthony” During Show

Parker McCollum supports the Oliver Anthony takedown. Over the weekend, Parker McCollum took the stage in Little Rock, Arkansas, laying down one of his last shows of 2024. The Texas native was taking a quick pause in the set when a fan yelled out from the crowd: “F**k Oliver Anthony.” While this story has a lengthier backstory than a fan just yelling it for fun, it shows one thing: Parker McCollum fans are pissed at Oliver Anthony for insinuating he uses backtracking and auto-tuning on stage. In early December, Oliver Anthony uploaded a 15-minute YouTube video laying out his thoughts on the music industry, explaining why he’s moving to ministry and dragging Nashville. However, one portion of the video caught the public’s attention when he called out an artist for using auto-tune and backing tracks during their shows . “A lot of these mainstream acts…everybody runs backing tracks. Like I’ll never forget, I won’t say who the act is, but I think it was at South Carolina at the Myrtle Beach one, the band who played after us, that dude had six auto-tune modulators on a pedal board on stage, just to help him with vocal pitch live. And they had backing tracks running, drum loops running.” https://twitter.com/Smuphy/status/1865246608092250503?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1865246608092250503%7Ctwgr%5Eaf3cfa392f1e00f1dd7ca6c3d143dd42459f0ede%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.whiskeyriff.com%2F2024%2F12%2F08%2F100-fabricated-lie-parker-mccollum-responds-after-oliver-anthony-implies-he-uses-autotune-backing-tracks%2F Six Auto-Tune modulators… what does that even mean? While Anthony never explicitly named who the artist was, he said exactly where the show was and that the “dude” played right after him. Given the obvious clues, social media was quick to connect the dots that he was talking about Parker McCollum. Once word began circulating that McCollum was more than likely the artist in question, he quickly addressed Anthony and shut down his accusations. “Hey guys, per the Oliver Anthony interview or whatever it was claiming that he saw drum loop modular or whatever he called it, I don’t even know what that is…100% fabricated lie. Never ever, ever, ever one time have I ever used auto-tune or a drum loop or anything fake of any kind on stage. Me and my guys are ripping it the real deal every single night. There has never been any single part of our show, not one note, that was not live, raw, and in the moment. 100% fabricated story. That is 100% a lie. That will never change. We will always be out there swinging it as a real band, trying to do our best to respect country music. So, that’s all I’ve got to say on it, and that’s where it needs to end.” https://www.instagram.com/reel/DDVTsS7SnKy/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=132bf16c-05a2-4152-819c-5f79082026b2 Fans and fellow artists flooded the comments in support of McCollum. If you’ve ever been to a Parker McCollum live show, you know his microphone is ON. The Texas native has never been afraid to let it rip, and spent years cutting his teeth in Texas bar rooms, earning fans at every stop along the way, before he ever received a major label record deal… it’s just such an absurd comment from Oliver. And while it’s not necessarily uncommon for larger acts (probably more common in the pop world) to use some backing tracks or auto-tune during their shows, especially in larger venues or for televised performances like awards shows or halftime shows, Parker McCollum isn’t one of them. And Oliver Anthony began his statement with “I’ll never forget” so I’m going to assume he’s not mixing up the artist in his mind. He was very specific with the details of who was performing. But either way, Anthony’s rant gives off the vibe that he is a bitter guy who doesn’t quite know what he’s talking about. Weeks later, McCollum’s fans still have a bone to pick with the “Rich Men North Of Richmond” singer as they yell during McCollum concerts to stand with him and not with Antony. After the fan yelled “F**k Oliver Anthony” in Little Rock, McCollum responded to the fan, once again noting that he and his band are 100% live every night on stage. “Word… And I just want you guys to know that when you come see my show, when you come see me and these guys right here, there ain’t a damn thing fake about it. You understand what I’m sayin’? Now, I’ll be the first to admit, that there’s probably a lot of nights that I do need Auto-Tune. There’s even some nights that I wish I had Auto-Tune. But for as long as there is air in my lungs, I will always get on stage and respect country music and do this thing the real way, the right way, live and in the moment. I write all the songs. Me and this band are live, every single note you are hearing is happening in real time, there ain’t a damn thing fake on this stage. So whether you like these songs or not, whether you think I’m good or not, I don’t give a damn, but you best know… this is the real deal up here.” Parker is standing on business and ensuring his fans know Anthony’s statement is 100% untrue —although the majority never questioned that. However, I can’t blame McCollum for driving this home; when someone makes a claim like that, which could be detrimental to your career, you will defend yourself until the bitter end. Props to him for standing up for himself… a lot of artists would just leave it alone Check it out: Watch Parker and the boys perform “Burn It Down” later in the set: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3520peWiAK0

Parker McCollum has always been known for his authenticity and his dedication to his music, but recently he showed just how genuine he truly is when he responded to a fan yelling inappropriate comments during one of his shows.

During a recent concert, a fan yelled out "F*** Oliver Anthony," a reference to a popular song by McCollum. Instead of ignoring the comment or brushing it off, McCollum stopped the show and addressed the situation head-on.

In a video that has since gone viral, McCollum can be seen calmly addressing the fan, explaining that he doesn’t condone that kind of behavior at his shows. He emphasized the importance of respect and kindness towards others, and made it clear that he would not tolerate any negativity in his audience.

Fans have praised McCollum for handling the situation with grace and maturity, proving once again that he truly cares about his fans and the message he puts out into the world. With his response, he not only shut down the negativity but also set a powerful example for how to handle disrespectful behavior in a positive and constructive way.

It’s moments like these that remind us why we love Parker McCollum and why his music resonates with so many people. Here’s to more artists like him who use their platform for good and stand up for what is right.

Parker McCollum Addresses Autotune Allegations (Again) After Fan Yells, “F*ck Oliver Anthony” at Live Show

Oliver Anthony caught his big break when he released the country-folk tune “Rich Men North of Richmond” in August 2023. The song’s anti-establishment message resonated with many, sending it straight to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Anthony, 32, has used his newfound platform to continue railing against the mainstream. Most recently, he posted a 15-minute vlog on YouTube in which he seemingly accused Parker McCollum of using drum loops, backing tracks, and Auto-Tune during his live shows. Unsurprisingly, McCollum’s fans have not responded kindly. See what the “Hell of a Year” singer had to say when a fan expressed their feelings toward Anthony during a recent show.

“Ain’t a Damn Thing Fake” About Parker McCollum’s Live Shows

As 2024 winds down, Parker McCollum is wrapping up a highly successful Burn It Down tour. The ACM Award winner stopped at Simmons Bank Arena in North Little Rock, Arkansas, last Saturday (Dec. 28.)

As McCollum strummed along on his guitar, someone in the crowd yelled, “F— Oliver Anthony!” Not missing a beat, the “Burn It Down” singer replied, “Word.”

And that wasn’t all he had to say about that. “I just want you guys to know that when you come see my show, when you come see me and these guys right here, there ain’t a damn thing fake about it,” McCollum said emphatically, as fans cheered.

    What Did Oliver Anthony Say?

Oliver Anthony aired his grievances against the modern country music scene in a Dec. 6 YouTube vlog titled “What I’ve Learned From the Music Industry So Far.” In the 15-minute clip, he accused “a lot of these mainstream acts” of relying on backing tracks.

“I won’t say who the act is, but I think it was at South Carolina at the Myrtle Beach one, the band who played after us, that dude had six autotune modulators on a pedal board on stage, just to help him with vocal pitch live,” said the Virginia-born artist.

While Anthony never explicitly named the artist, internet sleuths divined that the “Rich Men North of Richmond” singer took the stage just ahead of Parker McCollum at the Carolina Country Music Fest in June.

McCollum fired back at the “100% fabricated” allegations with a video message delivered via horseback.

    @parkermccollum

Saw there was some speculation going around on this and wanted to clear things up. Not sure if it was a mix up on which show/festival, but can confirm we have never once used any backing tracks or tuning and will never be true for my live show. We are a real band out there ripping it live every single night trying to respect country music as it should be.

Parker McCollum Addresses Autotune Allegations (Again) After Fan Yells, “F*ck Oliver Anthony” at Live Show

Country singer Parker McCollum found himself in the middle of controversy once again as he addressed autotune allegations during a recent live show. However, what really caught fans’ attention was when a fan yelled, “F*ck Oliver Anthony” during the performance.

McCollum took a moment to address the autotune accusations, stating, “I know there have been rumors going around about autotune, but I want to assure you all that my voice is as real as it gets. I work hard to deliver the best performance for my fans and I take pride in my craft.”

But the real shock came when a fan shouted, “F*ck Oliver Anthony” during the show. McCollum paused, visibly taken aback by the outburst, before responding, “Hey, that’s not cool. Let’s spread love and positivity, not hate.”

It is unclear who Oliver Anthony is or why the fan made such a statement, but McCollum handled the situation with grace and professionalism. Fans took to social media to express their support for the singer and commend him for how he handled the incident.

Despite the drama, McCollum continued to put on a stellar performance for his fans, leaving them with a memorable night of music and entertainment.

  • Fan Yells “F-K Oliver Anthony” At Parker McCollum Concert

Fan Yells “F-K Oliver Anthony” At Parker McCollum Concert

Accusations were raised in early December by country-folk singer-songwriter Oliver Anthony against Parker McCollum using autotune, backing tracks, and drum loops. While Anthony did not name McCollum by name, fans were quick to point out Anthony’s not-so-subtle references. Three weeks later, a fan dropped an “F-bomb” directed at Anthony during a McCollum concert. McCollum said: “Word.”

Parker McCollum performed at the Simmons Bank Arena in North Little Rock, Kansas on December 28. There, during his set, one fan yelled “Fu*k Oliver Anthony.” Clearly, the fan was not too pleased with Oliver Anthony’s words against the Conroe, Texas singer. McCollum didn’t doubt for a single second and quickly answered back, with the interaction recorded and posted on social media

“Word,” McCollum said as fans laughed and cheered. “And I just want you guys to know that when you come see my show, when you come see me and these guys right here, there ain’t a damn thing fake about it. You understand what I’m sayin’?”

So, what did Oliver Anthony say? During a 15-minute YouTube video titled “What I’ve Learned from the Music Industry So Far…” Anthony heavily criticized, as you might expect, the current state of the country music industry. During the most controversial part of the video, Anthony referred to a certain “act” he didn’t mention.

“A lot of these mainstream acts run backing tracks. Like I’ll never forget, I won’t say who the act is, but I think it was in South Carolina at the Myrtle Beach one,” Antony said. “The band who played after us, that dude had six autotune modulators on a pedal board on stage, just to help him with vocal pitch live. And they had backing tracks and drum loops running.”

The Myrtle Beach festival he was referring to was the Carolina Country Music Fest. Fans were quick to conclude that the “act” Anthony was referring to was no other than Parker McCollum. McCollum performed right after Anthony.

    McCollum Answers Back

Four days after Anthony published the aforementioned video, Parker McCollum addressed the situation in an Instagram video, published on December 8.

“Hey guys, per the Oliver Anthony interview or whatever it was claiming that he saw drum loop modulars or whatever he called it, I don’t even know what that is… 100% fabricated lie. Never ever, ever, ever one time have I used autotune or a drum loop or anything fake of any kind on stage,” McCollum said.

“Me and my guys are ripping it the real deal, every single night. It has never been one single part of our show, not one note, that was not live, raw, and in the moment. 100% fabricated story. That is 100% a lie,” he continued. “And that will never change. We will always be out there really swinging it as a real band, trying to do our best to respect country music. So, that’s all I’ve got to say on it, and that’s where it needs to end. Thank y’all.”

Will the autotune feud continue between Oliver Anthony and Parker McCollum? As long as fans continue to cuss each artist out during the other’s performances, then it appears we are far from seeing the drama coming to an end.

At a recent Parker McCollum concert, a fan was caught on camera yelling “F–k Oliver Anthony” in the middle of the performance. The outburst caused quite a stir among concert-goers, with many expressing shock and disapproval of the disrespectful comment.

Oliver Anthony is a rising country music artist who has been gaining traction in the industry, and it’s unclear why the fan decided to target him during McCollum’s set. Some speculate that there may be a rivalry between the two artists, while others believe it was simply a drunken outburst.

Regardless of the reason, the incident serves as a reminder to always show respect and appreciation for artists, regardless of personal preferences. Disrespectful behavior like this has no place at a concert, where everyone should be able to enjoy the music and have a good time.

Let’s hope that this incident was just an isolated incident and that fans will continue to support both Parker McCollum and Oliver Anthony in their respective music careers. Let’s keep the focus on the music and leave the negativity at home.
