  • Miami QB Cam Ward breaks Case Keenum’s Division I touchdown passes record in Pop-Tarts Bowl

Miami QB Cam Ward breaks Case Keenum’s Division I touchdown passes record in Pop-Tarts Bowl

Miami quarterback Cam Ward broke the Division I career touchdown passes record Saturday when he completed his 156th career touchdown pass to Jacolby George with 4:12 left in the first quarter of the Pop-Tarts Bowl.

The four-yard score, Ward’s 37th touchdown pass of the season, broke a tie with former Houston quarterback Case Keenum, who holds the Football Bowl Subdivision-only record with 155 touchdown passes.

Ward, who won ACC player of the year honors, was a Heisman Trophy finalist and is a projected first-round NFL Draft pick, spent his first two years of college football at Incarnate Word, a Football Championship Subdivision program. He threw 71 touchdown passes there before transferring to Washington State for two seasons. Ward threw 48 touchdown passes in two seasons with the Cougars before transferring to Miami in January.

Ward may not hold on to the record for too long. Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel has thrown 153 career touchdown passes — all at the FBS level — and plays Ohio State in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. If the No. 1 seed Ducks win, they’ll advance to the semifinals of the 12-team bracket.

Gabriel is already the FBS leader in career touchdowns with 186. Ward has 176 career touchdowns, including 20 on the ground.

Miami quarterback Cam Ward made history in the highly anticipated Pop-Tarts Bowl, breaking Case Keenum’s Division I touchdown passes record. Ward’s stellar performance on the field propelled his team to victory and solidified his place in college football history.

With a record-breaking number of touchdown passes under his belt, Ward’s talent and skill were on full display throughout the game. His precision passing and strategic decision-making helped lead his team to a decisive win in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, further cementing his reputation as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation.

Fans and analysts alike were in awe of Ward’s incredible accomplishment, as he surpassed Keenum’s previous record with ease. As the new record holder for Division I touchdown passes, Ward has set the bar high for future quarterbacks to strive towards.

Congratulations to Cam Ward on this impressive achievement, and here’s to many more memorable moments on the field in the future.

  • “U Guessed It” Rapper OG Maco Passes Away at 32

“U Guessed It” Rapper OG Maco Passes Away at 32

OG Maco, the Atlanta rapper known for his 2014 viral hit “U Guessed It” has passed away.

TMZ reports Maco passed away last night at a Los Angeles hospital, surrounded by his family, after battling complications from a gunshot wound to the head. He was 32.

Sources close to the situation confirmed that Maco had been in critical condition since December 12, when he was rushed to the hospital following the shooting. Despite doctors’ efforts to stabilize him, his condition worsened after slipping into a coma. Attempts to conduct a brain scan and address the toxins in his system were ultimately unsuccessful.

The incident that led to Maco’s hospitalization occurred after police responded to a neighbor’s 911 call reporting a gunshot nearby. Authorities later recovered a firearm close to the scene.

Maco’s family, who traveled to Los Angeles to be by his side, are devastated by the loss. The rapper’s death was falsely reported earlier this month, but those rumors were put to rest until today’s confirmation.

OG Maco rose to fame in 2014 with his explosive single “U Guessed It,” a track that captured the energy of Atlanta’s hip-hop scene and became a staple of the viral internet era. The song solidified his place at QC Records, one of the South’s premier labels. In 2015, he was recognized as part of the XXL Freshman class, joining the likes of Vince Staples and K Camp.

Beyond his viral success, Maco’s career was marked by innovation, experimentation, and resilience. He faced significant challenges, including battling a flesh-eating disease in 2019, which he candidly discussed with fans.

OG Maco Reportedly Passes Away At 32

OG Maco has reportedly passed away several weeks after he was hospitalized with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On Friday, December 27, Maco’s manager Poppa Perc confirmed the tragic news in an Instagram Story. “We lost a legend last night,” he wrote. According to TMZ, the Atlanta artist passed away in a hospital in Los Angeles while surrounded by family members. He had been recovering at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center since December 12 after he suffered from a gunshot wound to the head. Paramedics responded to Maco’s home after a neighbor called for help. A firearm was reportedly discovered near the rapper. He was only 32.

Maco’s family previously issued a statement in which they shot down reports about his death and confirmed he was in “critical yet stable condition.” Unfortunately, his condition worsened while he was in a coma and couldn’t be revived. TMZ reported doctors had failed to get proper brain scans after they attempted to remove all the toxins in Maco’s body. His family has not commented on his death yet. They are still, understandably, rattled by the unexpected news.

OG Maco has been in the rap game since 2011. He dropped various mixtapes including 10 Moons and Live Life before he signed with Quality Control Music in 2014. He dropped his self-titled project that same year with his smash hit “U Guessed It” and the remix featuring 2 Chainz. He spent most of 2016 dropping projects even after he overcame several health issues from a horrific incident. In the summer of 2016, OG Maco got into a near-fatal car crash and suffered from multiple serious injuries. He almost lost his right eye. Maco went through several surgeries and made a full recovery from the accident. Three years later, Maco revealed his battle with a flesh-eating disease known as necrotizing fasciitis.

    Rest in peace, OG Maco.

  • Senate passes Social Security bill to repeal WEP and GPO

Senate passes Social Security bill to repeal WEP and GPO

Editor’s note: Due to an editorial process error, a draft version of this story was inadvertently published on Friday night, prior to the Senate’s final vote. Federal News Network regrets the error.

The Senate passed the Social Security Fairness Act to deliver higher Social Security benefits to millions of public sector retirees.

The bill now heads to President Joe Biden’s desk for a signature after the Senate cleared the legislation just after midnight on Saturday by a vote of 76-20.

The legislation to repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset has been reintroduced each Congress for decades but had not received a vote in either chamber until just this year. The House previously passed the bill in November.

The WEP and GPO are two provisions of Social Security that reduce or sometimes eliminate benefits for certain federal retirees and other public servants, as well as their surviving spouses. Those impacted by WEP and GPO total about 2.4 million, including federal annuitants in the Civil Service Retirement System, along with firefighters, teachers, law enforcement officers and many others.

The WEP reduces benefits for annuitants who worked in both a public sector position not covered by Social Security, as well as a job that’s covered by Social Security, usually in the private sector. The GPO reduces Social Security for surviving spouses who also worked in the public sector. The two-thirds reduction by GPO often results in a full elimination of the benefit.

The vote on the Social Security Fairness Act came shortly after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer committed to taking action on the bill at a labor rally last week. Leaders and members from unions and other labor organizations attended the rally to push for a Senate floor vote on the longstanding bill.

Many have called the WEP and GPO provisions unfair to public servants. Advocates said the legislation will ensure all public sector retirees receive the Social Security benefits they earned during their career. Over the years, the bill has gained strong bipartisan support and the backing of many organizations and unions. John Hatton, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association’s staff vice president of policy and programs, called the Senate’s action this week “a long time coming.”

“This is something we’ve been working on for 40 years,” Hatton told The Federal Drive with Tom Temin on Tuesday. “It’s been penalizing people simply because they’ve earned their government pension and then they earn, separately through private sector work, their Social Security benefits. Our members who are CSRS retirees have never understood it. They have always been upset by it. They view it as theft, as do we, and that goes for the firefighters, police officers, the teachers, the municipal workers around the country, who are impacted by this as well.”

The legislation has gained some criticism as well. Republicans who voted against the bill argued that it would have negative impacts on Social Security’s solvency, and called for reforms rather than a full repeal of WEP and GPO.

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan organization, has said that removing WEP and GPO would advance Social Security’s insolvency by about six months and potentially lead to across-the-board cuts for Social Security beneficiaries. The organization has called for keeping WEP and GPO, and reforming the two Social Security provisions instead.

“The current system overpays some beneficiaries while underpaying others — thoughtful reforms such as those proposed by President Obama or the late Congressman Sam Johnson (R-Texas) could fix this while improving trust fund solvency,” the committee wrote in a Dec. 12 blog post. “We encourage lawmakers to pursue solutions to Social Security’s looming insolvency and not further worsen the program’s finances.”

Lawmakers who have championed WEP and GPO repeal for decades celebrated the Senate’s passage of the bill.

“There is no doubt that Congress has taken too long to address this inequity, but I am grateful to the diligent bipartisan work of my colleagues to help us finally get this over the finish line,” Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said in a statement early Saturday morning. “This legislation takes care of Alaskans who have dedicated years of service to our communities, serving in integral roles such as teachers, firefighters, and police officers. Hardworking public servants should not be denied the benefits that they paid for because of their career choices, and I’m relieved that this longstanding injustice has been remedied.”

In a historic moment for millions of retired Americans, the Senate has passed a groundbreaking Social Security bill that will repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). The WEP and GPO have long been criticized for unfairly reducing Social Security benefits for individuals who receive pensions from non-covered employment.

The repeal of these provisions will provide much-needed relief for teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other public servants who have been negatively impacted by the WEP and GPO. By eliminating these outdated and unjust rules, Congress has taken a crucial step towards ensuring that all Americans receive the Social Security benefits they have earned and deserve.

The passage of this bill is a significant victory for retirees across the country, and a testament to the power of advocacy and grassroots organizing. As we celebrate this important milestone, we must also remain vigilant in holding our elected officials accountable and continuing to fight for a Social Security system that is fair and equitable for all.

This is a momentous occasion for retirees and their families, and a reminder that when we come together and demand change, we can make a real difference in the lives of millions of Americans. Let’s continue to push for progress and build a more just and inclusive society for all.

Former NWA World Champion Jax Dane Passes Away

    – The National Wrestling Alliance announced the passing of former NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion Jax Dane passed away. Details of his passing are unknown, but it’s said he passed away earlier today (Dec. 26). He was 43 years old. The NWA also issued the following statement on Dane’s passing:

National Wrestling Alliance Mourns the Loss of Jax Dane

The National Wrestling Alliance is heartbroken to announce the passing of Jax Dane.

Born March 10, 1976, Dane left us on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, due to complications from a heart attack suffered in late November. Dane is survived by his wife Evelynda Laymon, stepson Nicolas, and father, who will forever cherish his memory. He was 48 years old.

Jax is remembered not only for his remarkable achievements inside the ring but his unwavering dedication to the sport and his fellow wrestlers. The most decorated wrestler of the Lightning One Era and former NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion, Jax left an indelible mark on the NWA and the pro wrestling community as a whole.

Describing Dane as a “friend, mentor, absolute professional in and out of the ring, and loyalist who went out of his way to support and rebuild the NWA of today,” William Patrick Corgan expressed his sorrow,

“Jax Dane loved professional wrestling deeply and he certainly loved those he fought and rode with. I know I speak for all of the National Wrestling Alliance when saying Jax will be missed. We will do our best to honor him and make his family proud as we carry forth,” the NWA’s President and Owner states.

“There are those men and women who carry the legacy of a champion because they have risen to such heights,” Corgan continues, “And then there are those that earn the respect of a champion simply because of who they are. To this I can say, simply and personally, that Jax was such a man, and will forever be in our hearts.”

Jax Dane reached the pinnacle of pro wrestling on August 15, 2015, defeating Hiroshi Tenzan to capture the National Wrestling Alliance World’s Heavyweight title. He held the belt for an incredible 419 day, finally losing the championship to Tim Storm on October 21, 2016.

“Very few people have been as influential to my wrestling career as Jax. We met about 15 years ago and have been friends ever since,” shares Storm.

“Over that time, we have wrestled against, for, and with each other a hundred plus times,” said Storm of his in-ring rival and frequent tag team partner. “I’ve never been hit harder or thrown further than in my matches with Jax. It was mutual. He was completely unselfish. That is no more evident than in our current tag team. He put me squarely on his shoulders and made it happen.”

His professional admiration aside, Storm also opens up about Dane as a person and friend.

“The world was a better place with him in it, and he leaves a hole in my heart and in the NWA that can’t be filled. We roomed together on the road last year. We talked about wrestling and family,” recalls Storm, describing Dane’s dedication to those he cared for most.

“Jax loved his wife very much. He spoke about his father teaching him his work ethic and always felt the farm was home. He was proud of his stepson and how he matured into a man, and he loved his nieces dearly,” Storm says. “My heart goes out to his entire family. My heartbreak is nothing compared to what his family is feeling.”

“Jax was a Grizzly Bear in front of the camera and a Teddy Bear behind it,” recounts Pat Kenney, NWA Head of Talent Relations, recalling the competitor as “a gentleman who was a true family man” as dedicated to his home as his onscreen and in-ring persona.

“I know that the term ‘family man’ gets thrown around a lot, but that’s what he was. He spoke glowingly about his wife, Evelynda, and his stepson, Nico,” Kenney details. “As a talent, he had the ability to work with anyone, anywhere, no matter his spot on the card. He was truly energized by his most recent pairing with Tim Storm, as his positivity at recent tapings was contagious. God bless him and his family.”

“He was my brother in every sense of the word, and I loved him,” Storm says, opening up about final conversations with his long-time friend. “He made me promise two things: 1. Don’t share what’s happening with anyone; it’s a private thing. And 2. Promise me you will get your heart checked. He would ask you to do the same.”

The NWA community will forever honor Jax Dane’s legacy, celebrating his contributions to the sport and the profound impact he had on those around him. A champion throughout his career, Jax’s List of Championship Accomplishments include:

    • NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship
    • NWA National Heavyweight Championship (2x)
    • NWA World Tag Team Championship
    • NWA North American Heavyweight Championship
    • NWA Texas Heavyweight Championship
    • NWA Champions Series Tournament (2021)
    • Smoky Mountain Cup Championship

We at the National Wrestling Alliance extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his spirit. Should the family choose to share details about the funeral arrangements, the NWA will ensure this information is made available to the public as soon as it is received.

On behalf of 411, we offer our condolences to the friends, family, and fans of Jax Dane.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of former NWA World Champion Jax Dane. The wrestling world has lost a true talent and a beloved figure in the industry.

Dane, who held the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in 2016, was known for his incredible in-ring skills and larger-than-life personality. He was a fan favorite wherever he went, and his matches were always a highlight of any show.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dane’s family, friends, and fans during this difficult time. He will be truly missed, but his legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Rest in peace, Jax Dane. You will always be remembered as a champion both in and out of the ring.
