  • Denver Broncos’ Patrick Surtain II celebrating his season at the Pro Bowl Games

Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II isn’t one of those all-stars who’s looking to duck the Pro Bowl Games. The former Alabama All-American is taking part on Sunday for the third consecutive season.

“I think it’s important to celebrate your accolades,” Surtain said during an appearance on FanDuel TV’s “Up and Adams.” “I think you need to celebrate the season you had. Have a good time here with the activities they have lined up for us, but also enjoy time to really talk football amongst your peers, amongst the best around the league. You won’t get that from here and there, so I think it’s a good time to really talk football with guys, but also catch up with certain guys around the league. So I think it’s a good time to spend time with family, kick it up, have fun doing and playing a game that you love at the end of the day.”

Selection to the AFC team for the Pro Bowl Games is only one of Surtain’s honors for his 2024 performance. The Associated Press and NFL Players Association included him on their All-Pro teams, and the Pro Football Writers of America voted Surtain as All-NFL.

The PFWA has already announced Surtain as its NFL Defensive Player of the Year for the 2024 season, and he’s a finalist for The Associated Press’ version of that award, which will be presented at the annual NFL Honors program on Thursday night.

“I thought about it a lot,” Surtain said of the AP award. “Honestly, it’s such a surreal feeling to be mentioned amongst your peers in that way. I mean, it just goes to show you the season that I had and the goals that I had aligned in mind. And holding that trophy would be such a huge honor because not only would it be an honorable trophy, but I’ll be back in New Orleans where most of my family is from, so it would definitely be a huge honor for me and my family. And I just can’t wait to see what happens.”

Despite his performance this season, Surtain is looking for a better one in 2025.

“It’s always things I could improve on,” Surtain said at his end-of-season press conference after the Broncos bowed out in a 31-7 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Jan. 12, “whether it’s getting stronger, getting faster, getting quicker, little things like that, little nuances throughout my game that I could work on. But that’s like every offseason. You find little things that you could work on, and you sort of build on that.”

In 2023, Denver finished 27th among the 32 NFL teams in scoring defense. This season, only two teams yielded fewer points than the Broncos, adding to the strength of Surtain’s credentials for postseason recognition.

“Defensively, we set a standard for ourselves,” Surtain said, “and went out there and proved it each and every week. And that is very fundamental to our success. Obviously, the rush up front, the coverage in the back end, so I think when you tie those two pieces together, I mean, it sets you up for success. And that’s what we did the whole year.

“And I’m looking forward to building with these guys. Obviously, this was Year 1 with a new group, and I’m excited for the future, because we’ve got a lot of young pieces that’s going to build and mature and grow in their game as well, too.”

The turnaround on defense helped Denver reach the postseason for the first time since the 2015 campaign and Surtain to attain some personal goals.

“Reaching that stage, I think is a huge accomplishment for us as a team,” Surtain said. “… I think we exceeded a lot of people’s expectations, but we knew what type of team we had going into the year. We was young, hungry and determined to reach that point in the season. And I think throughout the season, we had our ups and downs, but we were able to prevail and sort of set us up for success along the lines of the season. And it was good to finally reach that playoff spot. It was good for Broncos country to reach it, something we haven’t done in, what, eight years, so that was huge.

“And, obviously, All-Pros, Pro Bowl, that’s always a goal in mind for the season to capture that. But Defensive Player, yeah, that was a goal I had in mind, but that’s something that you definitely got to work for. And I had my mindset on it that I was going to be a finalist for that and, hopefully, win it, so it was something that I envisioned, something I had in mind. And the season that I had, I think I’ve proven it to be so.”

The Broncos posted a 10-7 regular-season record, with six of the losses coming by seven or fewer points.

“If you look at it, we’re pretty close,” Surtain said. “A lot of those losses were one-score games, close games, so I think we’re there. It’s just about finishing, and good teams find a way to finish at the end of the day. And that’s where we need to get to because we’ve got the talent. We’ve got the right pieces, so I think the next thing we need is to hone in on finishing big-time games and knowing how to win.”

The Denver Broncos’ star cornerback, Patrick Surtain II, is celebrating a standout season as he represents the team at the Pro Bowl Games. Surtain, a rookie sensation, has made a huge impact on the field with his exceptional coverage skills and playmaking ability.

Throughout the season, Surtain has shown why he was a top-10 draft pick, shutting down some of the league’s best receivers and making crucial plays in key moments. His stellar performance has not gone unnoticed, as he has earned a well-deserved spot in the Pro Bowl Games.

Surtain’s presence at the Pro Bowl Games is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and talent. Broncos fans are thrilled to see him showcase his skills on a bigger stage and represent the team with pride.

Congratulations to Patrick Surtain II on a fantastic season and best of luck at the Pro Bowl Games! Broncos Country is behind you all the way. #Broncos #ProBowlGames #PatrickSurtainII

  • NFL News: Lamar Jackson star Ravens teammate claims Josh Allen, Bills were ‘robbed’ against Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs

Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills made a statement by defeating Lamar Jackson‘s Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round of the 2025 NFL playoffs. But once again, they failed to get past Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Only three points separated Allen and company from Super Bowl LIX, though some feel that the result would’ve been different had the referees granted a critical first down to the Bills early in the fourth quarter.

One of Jackson’s best teammates, for instance, went as far as suggesting that Buffalo was ‘robbed’ on that play. We’re talking about Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who shared his thoughts on social media.

They lowkey did rob the Bills from the 4th down conversion. Josh definitely crossed the line,” Humphrey wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), in reference to a quarterback sneak by Allen that turned the ball over to the Chiefs on downs.

The call that affected Allen, Bills against the Chiefs

The play in question took place with 13:01 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Bills, leading 22-21 in the game, faced a fourth-and-one situation at Kansas City’s 41-yard line. Sean McDermott decided to keep the offensive unit on the field to try and get the first down with Allen’s legs.

As the Chiefs defense stopped Allen near the line of scrimmage, the refs considered that the Bills quarterback fell short of yards. After watching a replay, even though the images still looked unclear, the NFL officiating crew stood by its original decision.

It’s safe to say it may have been a game-changing moment, as Mahomes went on to score a rushing touchdown in the following drive, putting the Chiefs in front by 29-22 after a successful two-point conversion pass.

Allen orchestrated a nine-play, 70-yard touchdown drive in the Bills’ next possession to tie the score, but Kansas City responded with the field goal that ended up making the difference at Arrowhead.

McDermott believes Allen got the first down in Kansas City

Speaking to reporters after his team’s loss, McDermott let everyone know that, even though he wasn’t sure about which angles were used in the replay, he thought that Allen got the first down.

I thought he had it. Just short of the line was actually the first down, what it looked like to me when it was sitting next to me with the marker, just inside that white stripe was the first down and it looked like he got to it. That’s all I can say,” McDermott stated.

For many, this call will go down as a big “what if” in the Bills’ season. Either way, it would be unfair to take credit away from the Chiefs. At the end of the day, Mahomes is still unbeaten against Allen in four playoff games. And now he’s chasing a third consecutive Super Bowl win.

In a recent interview, star Baltimore Ravens teammate of Lamar Jackson, Marlon Humphrey, expressed his belief that the Buffalo Bills were “robbed” in their AFC Championship game against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Humphrey, who is known for his outspoken nature, did not hold back in his assessment of the controversial calls made during the game.

Many fans and analysts have pointed to a crucial pass interference call that was not called on a crucial fourth down play late in the game as a key moment that could have changed the outcome. Humphrey echoed these sentiments, stating that he believes the Bills were unfairly disadvantaged by the officiating.

Despite the controversy surrounding the game, the Chiefs emerged victorious and advanced to the Super Bowl, where they will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bills, on the other hand, will have to regroup and look towards next season.

As the NFL offseason approaches, it will be interesting to see how the league addresses issues of officiating and fairness in games. In the meantime, fans can expect more drama and excitement as the Super Bowl approaches.

  • Transfer news | Man Utd sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce

Jason Wilcox, Manchester United’s technical director, said: “Patrick is a really exciting talent; his strong defensive and attacking attributes, adaptability and work-rate will make him a key part of Ruben Amorim’s squad.

“Patrick has had a superb start to his career, and at the age of just 20, we know he will continue to develop under the guidance of our excellent coaching team.

“Patrick is the latest exciting young player that we have brought into the club. We believe that each of these talents has world-class potential and the ability to play a key role in achieving the success that everyone at Manchester United is striving for.”

Manchester United have completed the signing of talented young striker Patrick Dorgu from Italian club Lecce. The 18-year-old Nigerian forward is seen as one of the brightest prospects in European football and has caught the eye with his performances in the youth ranks at Lecce.

Dorgu is known for his pace, skill, and eye for goal, and he will add a new dimension to United’s attacking options. The Red Devils beat off competition from several top clubs to secure his signature, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to add young, exciting talent to his squad.

Dorgu is expected to initially join up with United’s youth team, but he will have the opportunity to train with the first team and push for a place in the senior squad. With United looking to build for the future, Dorgu could play a key role in the club’s long-term plans.

Fans will be eagerly anticipating Dorgu’s debut in a United shirt, and they will be hoping that he can make a big impact at Old Trafford. Stay tuned for more transfer news and updates as United continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

  • Is Patrick Dorgu Man United’s answer to Gareth Bale?

Signed by Lecce for a modest €200,000 in July 2022, Patrick Dorgu moved to Italy without even having played a senior game for Danish Superliga club FC Nordsjælland. Acquired as a prospect for the future, he started off in Lecce’s under-19 ranks before being drafted into the first team the following summer — making his full debut in the opening league fixture of the 2023-24 season (a 2-1 home win against Lazio.)

His first season was always going to be a learning curve, yet he still clocked up 32 Serie A appearances, mainly featuring as a left-back. This season, though, he’s just missed one game (through injury) and started the other 20 in a variety of positions, while he also got a call-up to the senior Denmark national team.

Dorgu — who is one of three footballing brothers, with 18-year-old Ifenna playing for Genoa‘s youth team — even scored within a minute of coming on for his international debut against Switzerland in September. He is set to take a step up to a whole other level, after sealing a €30 million (plus €5m in add-ons) transfer to Manchester United.

    Position

Having come through the Nordsjælland youth ranks as a left-back, Dorgu started his Lecce career in the same position. But then-head coach Luca Gotti — who arrived toward the end of last season — saw him as much more than an out-and-out defensive player.

As a first step, Gotti (who was replaced as Lecce coach by Marco Giampaolo in late November) pushed the teenager forward to the left-wing/midfield slot, before using him as a left-footed right-winger at the start of this season. That move saw Gotti draw comparisons between Dorgu and former Real Madrid and Tottenham star Gareth Bale.

“He seems to have great adaptability,” Gotti told Calciomercato. “He enjoys playing on the pitch. Important people from the football world are starting to call me to ask me what I see … [Bale] became a forward. He could have played as a full-back. This could happen with Dorgu.”

    Strengths

Aside from his versatility, Dorgu’s most eye-catching attribute is that the physicality that gave him an edge at youth level is still serving him well. He’s athletic and deals well with challenges when defending and attacking. Dorgu is also a powerful runner over long distances who quickly reaches top speed from a standing position.

His enthusiasm for the game has been key to his success. Whenever he receives the ball, he’s prepared to push forward and ranks within the top sixth percentile of Serie A midfielders for ball-carries.

He is a skilled dribbler and when driving forward, he’s always looking for passing options to start an attack or find room for a shot on goal. While his pace and direct running are his primary means of beating opponents, he is also full of tricks with dummies, faints and rapid changes of direction.

Following his resurgence as a right-winger this season, Dorgu has shown a great aptitude for cutting inside and using his left foot to score with a curled finish. He is often quickly able to free himself from his marker when shifting the ball centrally on his stronger side. His appreciation of combination play, varying his overlapping and underlapping runs, is also developing.

To his credit, Dorgu’s energetic and all-action style also come to the fore in the defensive side of the game as he tracks back diligently and is quickly able to regain his position when the team lose possession.

    How he can improve

Despite his quick ascent, Dorgu, as a 20-year-old, has certain aspects of his game which are still in need of polishing. His relentlessly positive approach can lead to him to lose the ball in dangerous areas. And while his dribbling is a strong point, the drawback of a high-volume dribbler from deep positions is that they run the risk of running into pressure or blind alleys — especially when venturing infield.

By the same token, Dorgu’s decision-making will often see him choose an attacking option when simply keeping his position is the best call.

Defensively, he tends to rely on his recovering speed, rather than reading an opponent’s move before intervening/intercepting. Part of his attractiveness is that he’s an intense, high-octane multi-purpose wide player rather than a calculating, well-balanced expert full-back. But this can lead to him getting into trouble in defensive one-on-ones when he’s short of a covering teammate.

    Who else were linked?

The most recent reports linked Dorgu with interest from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, but he has also seen Italian sides Internazionale, AC Milan, Juventus, and Napoli take note.

How will he fit at Manchester United?

Based on his inherent qualities, Dorgu looks like an intriguing prospect for United’s left wing-back berth. Given his somewhat distinctive skill set — slightly untidy tactically, yet technically sound and with bags of energy — the role should suit him.

The fact that he will be supported by a third centre-back in a 3-4-2-1 formation will help him defensively and give him the license to roam forward from a higher position than usual for a full-back, where he can make an attacking impact. Amorim may be tempted to field Dorgu on the opposite side (the right) to make use of his shooting/finishing capabilities, but it would be wise to first let him find his feet in Premier League on his more-familiar left side.

Bringing in such a high-energy player should spark this lethargic and static Manchester United side into life. But there’s also a chance his youthful fervor might be suffocated by the general lack of oxygen around the club.

With Manchester United’s recent struggles in the Premier League, fans and pundits alike have been searching for answers as to how the Red Devils can climb back to the top of English football. One name that has been gaining traction as a potential solution is Patrick Dorgu.

Dorgu, a talented winger currently playing for United’s youth academy, has been turning heads with his speed, skill, and eye for goal. Many believe that he has the potential to become the next Gareth Bale, a dynamic and explosive player who can change the course of a game with a single moment of brilliance.

With United’s lack of creativity and goal-scoring threat in recent matches, Dorgu’s inclusion in the first team could provide the spark that the team desperately needs. His ability to take on defenders, deliver pinpoint crosses, and score goals from distance make him a versatile and dangerous weapon in attack.

While Dorgu may still be young and relatively unproven at the top level, his talent and potential are undeniable. If given the opportunity to shine on the big stage, he could very well be the answer to United’s problems and become the next superstar in the making.

Only time will tell if Dorgu can live up to the hype and fill the void left by the departure of Gareth Bale, but one thing is for certain – United fans are eagerly anticipating the rise of this exciting young talent. Watch this space, as Patrick Dorgu could be the key to Manchester United’s resurgence.

  • Man Utd sign Patrick Dorgu: Can ‘glitch in the matrix’ solve Ruben Amorim’s problem?

Dorgu’s story began with local youth football in his home city of Copenhagen, as well as playing with his siblings. One of his brothers is an attacker for Genoa’s under-20 team, while the other is a goalkeeper in Denmark’s lower leagues.

At 12 years old he was scouted by Danish Superliga side Nordsjaelland, a club – owned by the Right To Dream academy in Ghana – renowned for producing promising young talents. Brighton’s Simon Adingra and Brentford duo Mathias Jensen and Mikkel Damsgaard are among the academy’s alumni.

Nordsjaelland are specialists at developing youngsters, with the best of the best spending a season or two with the first team before moving on.

Yet in 2022, newly promoted Serie A side Lecce paid about €200,000 (£167,000) to sign the then 17-year-old Dorgu before he had made a single senior appearance.

“He’s sort of a glitch in the matrix,” Karsten Krogh, Serie A journalist at Danish podcast Mediano, tells BBC Sport.

“He never really did that well as a youth player in Denmark, he was never a star anywhere. It wasn’t like the other teams in Denmark were lining up to get his signature.”

After helping Lecce win the Italian under-19 title in his first season, the club’s then-first team manager Roberto d’Aversa fast-tracked Dorgu into his squad.

“He’s growing a lot and I see a bright future for him,” D’Aversa said at the time.

“In football there are no ages, there are strong players and less strong ones. He is one of the strong players.”

This season Dorgu has switched between the right wing and left-back in a back four, providing three assists and scoring once while starting all but one of Lecce’s Serie A games.

His performances have convinced United to take action, even if his childhood dream was to play for Chelsea.

In a surprising move, Manchester United has signed Portuguese midfielder Patrick Dorgu in a deal that has left many fans scratching their heads. With Ruben Amorim struggling to find his form in recent matches, could this ‘glitch in the matrix’ be the solution to his problem?

Dorgu, known for his lightning-fast speed and precision passing, could provide the creative spark that United has been missing in midfield. With his ability to break down defenses and create scoring opportunities, he could be the key to unlocking United’s attacking potential.

However, some skeptics are questioning whether Dorgu is the right fit for United’s style of play. With Amorim’s struggles, the pressure will be on Dorgu to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact.

Only time will tell if this unexpected signing will pay off for United. Can Dorgu be the missing piece in the puzzle that helps United turn their season around? Or will this ‘glitch in the matrix’ only add to Amorim’s problems? Stay tuned to find out.

  • Patrick Dorgu: Manchester United sign defender from Lecce for £25m

Manchester United have signed Denmark defender Patrick Dorgu from Lecce on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

The deal for the 20-year-old is worth £25m (30m euros), with a potential £4.1m (5m euros) in add-ons.

Dorgu has made 57 appearances for Lecce since his senior debut at the start of last season, having joined the club at youth level in 2022.

“I am incredibly proud to be able to call myself a Manchester United player – this is a very special day for my whole family,” said Dorgu.

“I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim. His vision for this team and the future of the club is incredibly exciting. There is a clear plan set out for my development, and I feel that Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfil my potential and complete my huge ambitions.”

Talks over a loan move for United’s Dutch full-back Tyrell Malacia, 25, to join Portuguese club Benfica have broken down.

Meanwhile, Red Devils striker Marcus Rashford is scheduled to have a medical at Aston Villa before completing a loan move to the Midlands club.

Rashford has not featured for United since being dropped by head coach Ruben Amorim for the Manchester derby on 12 December.

Manchester United have made a big move in the transfer market, signing defender Patrick Dorgu from Italian club Lecce for a reported fee of £25m. The 22-year-old Nigerian international is seen as a promising talent and United fans will be hoping he can make an immediate impact in the team’s defense.

Dorgu is known for his solid defensive abilities and his composure on the ball, making him a valuable addition to United’s backline. With the Red Devils looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season, Dorgu’s signing is seen as a step in the right direction.

It remains to be seen how Dorgu will adapt to the Premier League, but with his potential and talent, he could prove to be a key player for United in the future. Fans will be eagerly anticipating his debut and hoping that he can help the team challenge for silverware in the coming season.

  • Patrick Swayze’s “Chippendales” SNL Sketch Made Chris Farley a Star

In the weeks leading up to February 16’s three-hour 50th anniversary celebration on NBC, the team behind Saturday Night Live has selected one sketch from every single season — 50 seasons in 50 days — to reflect the show’s rich legacy across five decades. Presenting the sketch chosen to represent Season 16: “Chippendales Audition” starring Host Patrick Swayze and Season 16 cast members Chris Farley, Kevin Nealon, Mike Myers, and Jan Hooks.

    How to Watch

Watch Saturday Night Live Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on NBC and Peacock, streaming next day on Peacock.

Chris Farley was a tour de force whirlwind of comedic talent during his five seasons as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, and the star of many unforgettable sketches.

Case in point: “Chippendales Audition,” starring Chris Farley and October 27, 1990, Host Patrick Swayze, fresh off of starring in the 1990 box office hit Ghost. The two played hopeful dancers competing to be the newest member of the infamous mens’ dance troupe.

Incredibly, “Chippendales Audition” was only Farley’s fourth sketch — and the very first one that he starred in.

RELATED: Chris Farley’s “Explosively Funny” in SNL’s “Matt Foley: Van Down by the River”

SNL‘s “Chippendales” sketch was written by Jim Downey

“Chippendales” was written by Jim Downey, a longtime SNL writer and sometime sketch performer responsible for sketches like “First Citywide Change Bank.”

The judges panel (played by Season 16 cast members Kevin Nealon, Mike Myers, and Jan Hooks) exposit that the two dancers — Adrian (Patrick Swayze) and Barney (Chris Farley) — have already gone through a five hour audition and three callbacks, but they only have the budget to hire one of them.

Adrian and Barney are called out onstage to show off their moves, dancing to “Working for the Weekend” by Loverboy. Eventually ripping off their shirts, they mesmerize the judges with hip thrusts, spins, and head-banging — all while still sporting Chippendales’ signature bowties, of course.

The judges unsurprisingly decide to hire Adrian — but they admit that it was a close call between the two, despite the dancers’ obvious physical differences.

Lorne Michaels called Chris Farley “an athlete”

The sketch premiered almost 35 years ago, but it is still regarded as one of the show’s most iconic, with more than 9.7 million views on SNL‘s YouTube. In The Chris Farley Show, a 2009 oral history of Farley’s life produced by Tanner Colby and and Chris Farley’s brother Tom Farley Jr., SNL writer Robert Smigel said (quotes via The Ringer), “I’d say it’s one of the funniest sketches in the history of the show.”

RELATED: Mark Your Calendar for These SNL 50 Anniversary Events, Specials, and Episodes

Farley died in 1997, and in a 1998 Rolling Stone posthumous feature about Farley, SNL creator Lorne Michaels called him “an athlete.”

“He knew how to use his body,” Michaels explained. “He was incredibly funny with it, and, as they say in football, he could play hurt.”

Smigel also compared Farley’s gifts to those of an athlete. In an April 2021 interview on The Howard Stern Show, the longtime SNL writer said “What was amazing about the sketch and what people forget is that Farley was incredibly nimble.”

“He was an athlete, and he danced incredibly well in that sketch, actually. And he had this fantastic energy. And in a way, it was like a very empowering sketch. I think that’s what people felt the first time they watched it, like, ‘Look at this guy go and be completely proud, just unashamed and going for it,” Smigel told Howard Stern when he brought up “Chippendale’s Audition.”

“He’s an amazing physical comedian! He was the most explosively funny person,” Smigel continued. “I think most people who worked [at SNL] at that time would agree with that.”

Mike Myers knew “a star was born” during “Chippendales Audition” rehearsal

In The Chris Farley Show oral history, Nealon admitted that it was hard to keep a straight face while Farley dance in the sketch.

“I played one of the judges, and my experience was the same as anyone who’s seen it on television,” recalled Nealon. “I can’t even think of the word to describe it. Incredulous, maybe? I did everything I could to keep a straight face.”

As for Downey, he admitted, “We didn’t know it was going to be as popular as it was. You never do. In read-through Chris is just sitting fully-clothed at the table while Lorne reads stage directions. We didn’t know until he did it at dress,” while Myers said, “I knew in rehearsal that a star was born.”

“Chippendales Audition” was a star-making moment for the new SNL cast member.

What is the song in the SNL “Chippendales Audition” sketch?

Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley dance to “Working for the Weekend” by Loverboy. The song was originally released in 1981.

In the history of Saturday Night Live, there have been countless memorable sketches and characters that have left a lasting impact on audiences. One such sketch that helped launch a comedic career is Patrick Swayze’s “Chippendales” sketch, which made Chris Farley a star.

In the sketch, Swayze and Farley play auditioning dancers for the Chippendales male strip club. Swayze, known for his suave and sexy persona, effortlessly shows off his dance moves and charm. Farley, on the other hand, is the complete opposite – he is overweight, awkward, and lacking in dance skills. However, Farley’s enthusiasm and comedic timing steal the show, as he hilariously gyrates and shakes his way into the audience’s hearts.

The juxtaposition of Swayze’s smooth moves and Farley’s clumsy antics is pure comedic gold. Farley’s fearless physical comedy and willingness to make a fool of himself endeared him to viewers, and the sketch instantly became a fan-favorite. It showcased Farley’s ability to make people laugh with his larger-than-life personality and impeccable timing.

The success of the “Chippendales” sketch helped propel Farley to stardom on SNL and beyond. He went on to create iconic characters like motivational speaker Matt Foley and “The Chris Farley Show” host, solidifying his status as a comedy legend. Tragically, Farley’s career was cut short when he passed away in 1997, but his impact on the world of comedy lives on.

So, the next time you watch the “Chippendales” sketch, remember that it was not only a hilarious moment in SNL history but also the moment that made Chris Farley a star.

  • Roger Ebert Called Patrick Swayze’s Only Western Movie a “Warm-Blooded” Adventure

With as large a body of work as Patrick Swayze had to his name, it’s sort of surprising that he wasn’t in many Westerns. In fact, he wasn’t in any Westerns at all, save for one: a long-forgotten Disney movie called Tall Tale. Though some may consider Road House a modern Western of sorts, as far as traditional horse operas go, only this Disney fantasy flick fits the bill — Pecos Bill, that is. In this 1995 adventure, Swayze plays none other than Pecos Bill, a legendary cowboy who comes to the aid of a young boy named Daniel Hackett (played by a young Nick Stahl). Is Pecos Bill real or imagined? Well, Tall Tale (sometimes called Tall Tale: The Unbelievable Adventures of Pecos Bill) offers few clear answers, but they don’t matter much anyway. Patrick Swayze played a cowboy here, and the truth is that we wished he’d played a few more…

‘Tall Tale’ Brought the Myths of the American West to Life

In American history and culture, there have always been folk heroes. Swayze’s Tall Tale character Pecos Bill has been in the American pop culture zeitgeist for over a century, and some of the other notable figures in this film — namely Paul Bunyan (played by Oliver Platt) and John Henry (Roger Aaron Brown) — have been around for even longer. But part of the charm of Tall Tale is that these folk heroes, whether real or not, represent the sheer ingenuity, tenacity, and larger-than-life nature of the American spirit, with Swayze perfectly embodying them all. As Daniel finds himself far away from home with little faith in the “tall tales” his father often told him, he encounters these very myths for himself in the Wild West. It’s only when he chooses to embody the very traits these mythical figures represent that Daniel effectively grows up, and can stand against the villainous land developer J.P. Stiles (Scott Glenn).

Patrick Swayze Gives a Must-See Performance in This Civil War Miniseries

The Civil War was never this dramatic.

There is almost a Wizard of Oz-like quality to this production, as Daniel awakens in a land far from his own, with three new companions who are truly otherworldly. It’s clear that Disney intended Tall Tale to be a children’s fable, one with an over-the-top cast who embody the iconic roles they’ve been given. If you were like this author and grew up with Tall Tale, then you may have some fond memories of Disney’s chief attempt to bring these mythic figures to the live-action screen. (Less than a decade later, the studio would revisit these American tall tales with Disney’s American Legends, a collection of animated short films that revisited characters like Bunyan, Henry, and Johnny Appleseed.) Despite being a box office bomb that garnered mixed reviews from critics, it’s easy to find the diamonds in the rough here, especially so far as Patrick Swayze’s performance (and mustache) is concerned. Indeed, Roger Ebert once called it “a warm-blooded, high-spirited family adventure film,” offering a three-out-of-four star rating.

Patrick Swayze Proved He Was True Western Material

Of course, what makes Tall Tale especially notable is Patrick Swayze himself. Sure, his Pecos Bill is a bit hot-headed and maybe a little full of himself, but the way Swayze tackles this legendary cowboy is flawless. Armed with an iconic appearance, a horse named Widowmaker, and enough gumption to carry the entire picture, Tall Tale is as fun an adventure as it is largely because of his mentorship of young Daniel. Through Swayze’s portrayal and Pecos Bill’s pure Western convictions, Daniel discovers the strength within himself to stand up for what’s right, even if it costs him everything. Frankly, it’s easy to watch this flick and wish that Patrick Swayze had tackled more Western roles. Though he was more well-known for his action pictures and coming-of-age dramas/romances, he settles into the Old West with ease, bringing a lighthearted charm to an otherwise desolate place.

While Swayze nearly overlapped with the Western genre on an occasion or two — he also starred in the Civil War series, North and South, and his 1989 thriller Next of Kin ventured dangerously close — Tall Tale is his only pure horse opera, even if it doubles as a fantasy. The actor, who was known off-camera for being something of a real-life cowboy himself (he owned ranches in California and New Mexico before his death in 2009), looked just as comfortable on the back of a horse as he did wielding a six-shooter with a wide grin and an even wider-brimmed hat. While the Western was far less popular in the 1980s and 1990s than it was in its heyday in the early-to-mid 20th century, it would’ve been grand to see Swayze appear in classics like Tombstone or Dances With Wolves, even if just in a smaller capacity. Nevertheless, Tall Tale: The Unbelievable Adventures of Pecos Bill mythologizes Patrick Swayze’s cowboy persona, solidifying the actor as a one-time Western star.

In the world of film criticism, Roger Ebert was known for his insightful and often colorful reviews. One of his lesser-known reviews was of Patrick Swayze’s only Western movie, “Tall Tale.” In his review, Ebert described the film as a “warm-blooded” adventure that captured the spirit of the Old West.

“Tall Tale” was released in 1995 and followed the story of three legendary American folk heroes – Pecos Bill, John Henry, and Paul Bunyan – as they come to life and help a young boy save his family’s farm from an evil land baron. Patrick Swayze starred as Pecos Bill, a larger-than-life cowboy with incredible strength and charisma.

Ebert praised the film for its imaginative storytelling, vibrant characters, and thrilling action sequences. He noted that Swayze’s performance as Pecos Bill was particularly memorable, capturing the essence of a larger-than-life cowboy with charm and authenticity.

Overall, Ebert’s review of “Tall Tale” painted it as a fun and entertaining Western adventure that would appeal to audiences of all ages. While the film may not have been a box office hit, it remains a beloved cult classic for fans of Patrick Swayze and Western movies alike.

  • With Patrick Graham Out of the Picture, Should the Jaguars Consider Rob Leonard?

It appears the Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham will not be paired together in 2025.

With Graham working toward a deal to remain with the Raiders, the Jaguars will now look elsewhere at defensive coordinator. One top candidate appears to be Green Bay Packers linebackers coach Anthony Campanile, while the Jaguars have also interviewed Los Angeles Rams assistant head coach and passing game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant, Minnesota Vikings defensive backs coach Daronte Jones, and Carolina Panthers secondary coach Jonathan Cooley.

Graham had two interviews with the Jaguars about their head coach role and also interviewed once for defensive coordinator.

With Graham now officially out of the picture, though, should the Jaguars do the next best thing and find a role for Raiders defensive line coach Rob Leonard? Leonard is viewed as a protégé of Graham and has helped the Raiders’ defense seriously overachieve in recent seasons.

One NFL source told Jacksonville Jaguars On SI, “If the Jaguars were serious about Patrick Graham, then Rob Leonard is the Ben Johnson of rising young defensive coaches set to be the next coordinators. He could be a great mix with Liam Coen.”

Coen spoke to reporters on Monday about what he is looking for in the role, which is set to be arguably the most important hire the first-year head coach makes in 2025.

“I’m gonna be involved, but it’s more the shared vision of the identity, the style of play. How do we continue to drive home the message of the style of play that we want to work with and play with that’s within the meetings, like being in the meeting sometimes,” Coen said.

“I’m going to be very involved, obviously, as we know, with the offense and Trevor and all that, but being just the presence felt, and doing more team meetings and doing them together so that, like we talked about this, where it’s not Offense, Defense, Teams, it’s here. So I’ll be involved, but I’m not going to be overbearing. I want that guy to have autonomy. I want that guy to have confidence, to be able to go and do it, and feel like his personality and his moral compass is showing on the product.”

With Patrick Graham recently hired as the new head coach of the New York Giants, the Jacksonville Jaguars find themselves in need of a new defensive coordinator. One potential candidate that has been generating buzz is Rob Leonard, current linebackers coach for the Los Angeles Rams.

Leonard has a strong track record of success in the NFL, having previously served as the linebackers coach for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Miami Dolphins. He is known for his ability to develop young talent and his aggressive defensive schemes.

With the Jaguars looking to rebuild their defense and return to playoff contention, Leonard could be the perfect fit to help lead the charge. His experience and expertise could be just what the team needs to turn things around on the defensive side of the ball.

While there are likely to be other candidates in the mix for the defensive coordinator position, Leonard’s credentials make him a compelling option for the Jaguars to consider. It will be interesting to see if the team decides to pursue him as they look to fill the void left by Graham’s departure.

  • Danica Patrick Helps Tulsi Crush The Libs In A Black Dress

If you were in class yesterday, you undoubtedly had the same thought I did around 10 p.m. last night …

Holy crap, how did Zach end Nightcaps class earlier today?

Yep, me too. Like this, for those wondering:

“I hope we don’t get to (add to the list), but, unfortunately, I’m sure we will. “

Obviously, that was in reference to adding to our ongoing aviation list – something I started last year because I hate flying and staunchly believe we need to Make Road Trips Great Again. Five hours later, as I was scrolling Twitter during Hulu commercials, I saw what was unfolding in Washington.

Sickening. I know I’ve long joked about how much I despise flying, but this one really hit home. Makes me so sad. What happened last night was the stuff I literally have nightmares about. Seriously. Multiple times a year. I can’t even fathom being on that plane. Or that helicopter. Or – perhaps worse yet – knowing someone on either.

Today isn’t the day for answers, because we won’t get any. Not sure when we will. I don’t wanna play that game today.

Before we start class and get to the jokes and the girls and the nonsense (much-needed today, by the way), I just wanna say the official Nightcaps position on the DC plane tragedy is that it is beyond sad, and stuff like that should not happen in this country.

Not here. Not America. It makes me sick, and angry, and, frankly, a bit uninspired to pump out #content today.

But, we need the #content, so let’s do what we do best and pump it out like the Patriots we are. Let’s roll.

Welcome to a Thursday Nightcaps – the one where we confirm Tulsi Gabbard with Danica Patrick and go from there.

What else? I’ve got Kristin Cavallari on a beach – which is always fun – RFK Jr. ripping some nicotine whilst getting his ass chewed out by looney Liz Warren, and Kay Adams just added another weapon to her arsenal that has the internet on high alert.

If anyone can lift spirits today, it’s Queen Kay. Like the bat signal, she responded like the superhero she is. Legend.

Pour you a drink – and then pour it out for everyone involved in last night’s tragedy – refill it, and then settle in for a Thursday ‘Cap:

    RFK is one of us!

You know what we all need on a day like today? Enough nicotine to slaughter a horse stuffed in our bottom lip. Hell, that’s me, every day.

I’m a Rogue guy. I know Zyns are the hot thing, but those are garbage. Sorry, but they are. The MSM wants to tell you they’re good. They’re not good.

Rogues are the top of the food chain when it comes to nicotine pouches. Not even close. And don’t you even bother coming at me with any “Velo” talk. That won’t be tolerated here. Not in this class. Not as long as I run it.

Anyway, when I throw in my first Wintergreen pouch of the day at 7 a.m., and then wash it down with some black Maxwell House, I feel like I could take on the world. Now, I have to immediately shit – but after that, I’m ready to smash some skulls.

So when I saw RFK Jr. throw one in yesterday as insufferable Elizabeth Warren was shouting at him for 10 minutes straight, it was maybe the most relatable thing I’ve ever seen:

Let’s stay on the Hill for a bit

We’ve all been there, fellas. The missus is PISSED that you asked to go play 18 with the boys when you have a messy-ass house and unruly kids, and she starts to let you HAVE IT. Or, worse yet, she gives you the quick “sure, do whatever you want” response with no eye-contact. Frankly, I’d rather the yelling.

When that happens, you have to just sit there and take it, much like Bobby did here with Fauxcahontas (a student told me yesterday that’s Warren’s true nickname, so I’m giving it a spin).

You can’t get a word in edge-wise because she’s so irate. You don’t want to make things worse by saying something stupid, so you just have to ride out the storm and hope the sun peaks through on the other side.

The good news is, you have a tin of delicious nicotine in your back pocket, and it’s all you can think about. You need it like you need air to breathe. It’s the only way you’re getting through this.

That’s what happened to RFK here. And he even nailed the discretionary part, which ain’t easy to do. Seasoned vet. Respect.

    MAHA!

OK, let’s check in with Danica and Tulsi, who are both taking on the establishment as we speak. Get ’em, girls!

Kristin, Kay & Jimmy, oh my!

I’ll be honest, I have little to no clue about Tulsi Gabbard. Frankly, the only time I ever even heard her name was years ago when my old neighbor – who spent most of his nights passed out on his lawn – had a Gabbard sticker on the back of his car. Seriously, that’s it.

But, if Danica and Nancy are #TeamTulsi, I certainly am, too. Is that the best way to form a political opinion? Probably not. But it’s the life I’ve decided to lead.

Now let’s get Tulsi and Ka$h confirmed so we can get this country back on track!

Rapid-fire time on the way out. First up? Look who’s ready for summer:

Been a while since Kristin came to class. Welcome back! Don’t be such a stranger next time. Last time we heard from Kristin, she was talking about how great Morgan Wallen was in the sack. What a pistol.

Can’t wait to see what’s next.

Now, let’s check in with Kay Adams, who rocked the internet with a pair of glasses this morning that, frankly, I didn’t see coming:

Kay adding glasses to her arsenal is the equivalent of the Dodgers adding Roki Sasaki to their rotation. Did they need him? Nope. They were the best team in baseball before, and they still are now.

But did they get better? Absolutely. Dominant effort here from Kay. It’s why she’s a Nightcaps vet. She spent the offseason working on a 12-6 curveball to go along with her triple-digit heat, and now the rest of the league is cooked. It’s over. Glasses Kay is here, and she ain’t going anywhere.

    Power move.

Finally, I know you’ve all been jonesing to watch Morning Joe and Jimmy Kimmel shoot the shit together, so here you go.

    You are welcome!

You simply do not hate them enough. It’s not possible. All the late night wackos are bad at this point, but Jimmy is so beyond insufferable it’s almost impressive.

    Almost.

OK, that’s it for today. Tough one, but we got through it. Here’s some more Kristin to take us home.

    See you tomorrow.

OutKick Nightcaps is a daily column set to run Monday through Friday at 4 p.m. (roughly, we’re not robots).

You on board with glasses Kay? Email me at Zach.Dean@OutKick.com.

Danica Patrick Helps Tulsi Crush The Libs In A Black Dress

Former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick made headlines recently when she showed her support for presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard by wearing a sleek black dress at a campaign event. The combination of Patrick’s fierce attitude and Gabbard’s no-nonsense policies seemed to strike a chord with many voters, especially those who were tired of the same old political games.

The image of Patrick and Gabbard together, both strong, independent women unafraid to take on the establishment, quickly went viral on social media. Supporters of the two women praised their boldness and determination, while critics scrambled to come up with reasons to dismiss them.

But as the saying goes, actions speak louder than words, and Patrick and Gabbard are definitely proving that with their powerful partnership. With Patrick’s help, Gabbard is sure to continue crushing the libs and making a name for herself in the political arena.

So watch out, establishment politicians – Danica Patrick and Tulsi Gabbard are coming for you, and they’re not taking any prisoners.
