  • Game of Thrones star Carice van Houten confirms split with Oscar nominee Guy Pearce

Carice van Houten, best known for playing the Red Woman Melisandre on HBO’s Game of Thrones; and Guy Pearce, who was just nominated for the first Academy Award of his career for her turn in The Brutalist, have split up. Actually, they’ve been split up for quite a while, as van Houten revealed on her Instagram Stories.

“I don’t usually engage in discussions about my personal life, but because of a number of conclusions in the media last week regarding my relationship with Guy, I wanted to make something clear — he and I are great friends and love each other very much, but we haven’t been a ‘couple’ for years,” van Houten wrote. “I am however, very proud to say we are in a wonderful partnership raising the true love of our lives — our beautiful son and his hamster. The end.”

Pearce and van Houten started dating in 2015, a few months after Pearce split from his ex-wife Kate Mestitz, to whom he’d been married since 1997. Pearce and van Houten welcomed their son Monte in 2016. Rumors of a split started up the other week when Pearce gave an interview to The Guardian. “My ex-wife, Kate, was the greatest love of my life, but I’ve moved on from her now and the greatest love of my life is my child, Monte,” he said. There seemed to be someone missing from that sound bite, and now we know why. “I felt like I messed up my marriage. I don’t feel that way any more, but at the time I was devastated,” Pearce continued.

That said, as van Houten wrote, it sounds like the two of them have a solid relationship and do a good job of co-parenting their son, but they no longer have a love connection, if they ever did. As long as their family is happy, that’s all that matters.

As I mentioned, Pearce is up for his first-ever Oscar award for his turn as the brutal industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren in The Brutalist, which won a Golden Globe Award for Best Picture. He lost the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor to Kieran Culkin in A Real Pain, but things might be different at the Academy Awards, which will air on March 2 on ABC and Hulu. Award shows are weird, and it’s possible something like this could shift his narrative ahead of the voting.

As for van Houten, she hasn’t appeared in any notable projects onscreen in a couple years, but she has a few movies and TV shows on the way. The Red Woman was never going to stay away for long.

Game of Thrones star Carice van Houten has confirmed her split with Oscar nominee Guy Pearce.

The couple, who have been together for several years, announced their separation in a joint statement released to the media. They expressed their love and respect for each other but stated that they have decided to part ways and focus on co-parenting their young son.

Van Houten, best known for her role as Melisandre in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, and Pearce, known for his roles in films such as Memento and The Hurt Locker, had been a beloved couple in the entertainment industry. While the reason for their breakup remains private, both Van Houten and Pearce have asked for privacy during this difficult time. They have assured fans that they will continue to support each other and remain dedicated to raising their son together.

It is always sad to see a beloved couple part ways, but we wish Carice van Houten and Guy Pearce all the best as they move forward with their lives.

  • Carice van Houten clarifies Guy Pearce split after his ex-wife remarks

Carice van Houten wants you to know that she and Guy Pearce are not an item.

The Game of Thrones actress clarified that she and the Australian actor split a while ago after Pearce called his ex-wife, Kate Mestitz, the “greatest love of my life” before his son came along.

“I’ve moved on from her now and the greatest love of my life is my child, Monte,” Pearce recently told The Guardian.

In a statement shared Wednesday in an Instagram Story (via US Weekly), van Houten said she and Pearce have not been a couple “for years.”

“I don’t usually engage in discussions about my personal life, but because of a number of conclusions in the media last week regarding my relationship with Guy, I wanted to make something clear,” van Houten wrote. “He and I are great friends and love each other very much, but we haven’t been a ‘couple’ for years. Sorry not to mention it earlier.”

“I am, however, very proud to say we are in a wonderful partnership raising the true love of our lives — our beautiful son and his hamster,” she concluded. “The end.”

Pearce separated from Mestitz, a psychologist, in early 2015 after 18 years of marriage. He met van Houten on the set of the 2016 psychological Western Brimstone soon after and welcomed his son with the actress — best known for her work on Game of Thrones — that year. Pearce announced his son’s arrival on social media: “A cute little package arrived and told us his name’s Monte Pearce,” he wrote at the time. “We think we’re gonna keep him. Placenta smoothie, anyone?”

The actor spoke about the joys of fatherhood in 2021, telling The Independent, “After Monte was born, someone said to me, ‘You realize you’re now living with your heart on the outside?’ And it really is true, isn’t it?”

“When I started acting, I knew if I needed to cry that it could come out easily,” he added. “Then after 15 years of therapy, I became a far calmer and more satisfied human being, but trying to cry in a scene became impossible. Since having my boy, though, I cry at the drop of a hat again.”

Pearce is now celebrating his first-ever Academy Award nomination, announced early Thursday morning, for his work in The Brutalist. He is up for Best Supporting Actor.

Carice van Houten, best known for her role as Melisandre in Game of Thrones, has spoken out to clarify her split from actor Guy Pearce after his ex-wife made some remarks about their relationship.

In a recent interview, Pearce’s ex-wife, Kate Mestitz, claimed that the couple’s marriage ended because Pearce had fallen in love with van Houten while they were filming a movie together. Mestitz also alleged that van Houten had been pursuing Pearce for some time before their separation.

However, van Houten has since set the record straight, stating that she and Pearce did not start dating until after he had separated from Mestitz. In a statement released to the media, van Houten emphasized that she would never get involved with someone who was still in a committed relationship.

The actress also expressed her sympathy for Mestitz, acknowledging that breakups are always difficult and emotions can run high. She stressed that she and Pearce are happy together and are focused on moving forward in their relationship.

Van Houten’s response has shed some light on the situation and hopefully put any lingering rumors to rest. It seems that the couple’s relationship started under more respectful circumstances than previously implied, and they are now free to continue their journey together without any unnecessary drama.

  • Guy Pearce Movies to Stream on Tubi This January

In chatting with film fans on social media; I’ve come across many viewers who are keen to revisit Guy Pearce pictures or discover his hidden gems anew thanks to the growing awards buzz he has been getting for his performance in The Brutalist. My movie friends, the free streaming platforms are here for you!

Here’s a breakdown of the abundant Guy Pearce films available this January on Tubi (films are available in Canada and the United States, unless otherwise stated).

Lockout, directed by James Mather and Steve Saint Leger (2012: Open Road Films)

Certainly, Memento (US Only) is essential Guy Pearce viewing thanks to director Christopher Nolan, but so is the 2012 sci-fi romp Lockout (US Only). Despite the Escape from L.A. copycatting, action hero Pearce carries Lockout with sardonic wit – contrasting the bitter, dirty excellence of the 2005 Australian western The Proposition (US Only) written by Nick Cave. Likewise Traitor remains a compelling, globe trotting terrorism thriller co-starring Don Cheadle, and Brimstone is a disturbing horror western with Pearce’s demented ministry playing in four out of order acts.

If you’re looking for an ABBA infused, rainbow embracing comedy, The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a must see, and the 1996 Australian body swap hoot Dating the Enemy is a battle of the sexes full of throwback charm. The Down Under 2002 heist caper The Hard Word (US Only) has a lot of humorous winks, too – including a fake nose for bank-robbing Pearce.

Lockout, directed by James Mather and Steve Saint Leger (2012: Open Road Films)

For tender dramas, look no further than 2013’s complicated rather than illicit Breathe In with The Brutalist co-star Felicity Jones, the psychological self-fulfilling prophecy of First Snow (US Only), and the surprisingly charming 33 Postcards (US Only) concerning inmate Pearce and his orphaned pen pal. Wholesome long form entertainment can also be found in Four Seasons of the Australian western Snowy River: The McGregor Saga.

Fair warning there are a few bad Guy Pearce movies like the contemporary western Disturbing the Peace and Seeking Justice co-starring Nicolas Cage freely available, too. Low budget horror films such as The Seventh Day or Sunrise (US Only); brief cameo appearances in Domino, Genius (US Only), and The Road; and unevenly executed pieces like Death Defying Acts (US Only), Fragments (US Only), and Swinging Safari also aren’t the best showcase for what Guy Pearce can do.

Fortunately, free streaming services like Tubi remain an archive to re-discover and explore Guy Pearce’s superb oeuvre.

  • With ‘The Brutalist,’ Guy Pearce Makes His Hollywood Return

Yeah. It’s a commitment before you even start.

I wonder if people realize that may be part of why they hesitate, because it’s almost like breaking an addiction for them.

And the funny thing is, the intermission is a little bit of bait that makes people go, “I’m prepared to deal with three and a half hours because there’s this cool intermission thing in the middle. What’s that going to feel like?” It’s as if they’re going to go on some new ride they’ve not experienced, when really they’re just going to walk out and go to the loo and buy some M&Ms and have a quick chat about the first half.

But I do think we’re in the middle of a pendulum swing when it comes to the industry and moviegoing. I know the difficulties that exist in even getting a film off the ground, so when I watch something and go, “Ah, it wasn’t really for me,” I still come away going, “Oh my God, I have such appreciation for the fact that you even did that.”

Because you know too well how precarious things can be.

How does anyone get any film made these days? This falls apart, that falls apart, you can’t get this actor, the money falls away. I’ll get offered something out of the blue and they go, “No, no, we’ve always really wanted you. We start next week.” I’m like, “OK, Paul Bettany just pulled out, obviously.” But you just do it. You get on board.

It’s funny, because for a number of years, I had people saying to me, “‘L.A. Confidential’ was the last movie of its kind and ‘Memento’ was the first movie of its kind,” this new style of Chris Nolan filmmaking. To be part of those two worlds that were only three years apart was pretty cool, really. And so now, again, to be in the middle of this snappy generation with a three-and-a-half hour movie that everybody’s talking about, I’m so curious to see how that looks in a few years’ time.

After a brief hiatus from Hollywood, acclaimed actor Guy Pearce is back with a bang in his latest film, “The Brutalist.” Known for his intense performances and versatile acting skills, Pearce’s return to the big screen is highly anticipated by fans and critics alike.

In “The Brutalist,” Pearce plays the lead role of an enigmatic architect who is haunted by his past and struggles to come to terms with his own demons. As he navigates through a world of brutalist architecture and complex relationships, Pearce’s character is forced to confront his innermost fears and desires.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jennifer Kent, known for her work on “The Babadook,” “The Brutalist” promises to be a thought-provoking and visually stunning film that showcases Pearce’s undeniable talent as an actor. With a stellar cast and a gripping storyline, this movie is sure to be a must-see for fans of Pearce and lovers of quality cinema.

Don’t miss out on Guy Pearce’s Hollywood comeback in “The Brutalist,” a film that is bound to leave a lasting impact on audiences and solidify Pearce’s status as one of the industry’s most talented actors. Get ready to be captivated, moved, and inspired by this incredible performance from a true Hollywood legend.

  • Guy Pearce: ‘My ex-wife was the greatest love of my life, but I’ve moved on now’ | Guy Pearce

Born in Cambridgeshire, Guy Pearce, 57, grew up in Australia and was in Neighbours. He starred in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in 1994, and in LA Confidential in 1997. He won an Emmy for the 2011 TV adaptation of Mildred Pierce. His other films include Memento, The Hurt Locker, The King’s Speech, Iron Man 3, The Convert and The Brutalist, which won three Golden Globes and is in UK cinemas from 24 January. He lives in the Netherlands with actor Carice van Houten and their son.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
    My fear of confrontation.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
    Lying.

Aside from a property, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve ever bought?
    A guitar – a 1959 Gibson 335.

    Describe yourself in three words
    Anxious, honourable and curious.

    What makes you unhappy?
    If I let myself down.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?
My smile. I see photos of myself and go: “Ooh I needed to pull back that smile.” Not for any justifiable reason, I just feel self-conscious.

If you could bring something extinct back to life, what would you choose?
    John Lennon.

What is your most unappealing habit?
Finding an easier way to do something rather the most thorough way.

What do you owe your parents?
Absolute gratitude, which I am realising more and more as my son gets older.

What scares you about getting older?
My knees are in really bad shape.

    Who is your celebrity crush?
    Kate Bush.

Would you choose fame or anonymity?
    Anonymity.

    What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Watching UFC [Ultimate Fighting Championship]. Mixed martial arts are so violent, it’s like watching a car accident.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
My ex-wife, Kate, was the greatest love of my life, but I’ve moved on from her now and the greatest love of my life is my child, Monte.

Have you ever said ‘I love you’ without meaning it?
I might have blurted it out when I was in my 20s and realised later that it was more about lust and infatuation.

Which living person do you most despise and why?
    Netanyahu.

What has been your biggest disappointment?
I felt like I messed up my marriage. I don’t feel that way any more, but at the time I was devastated.

If you could edit your past, what would you change?
I wish I could go back and not be the anxious child that I was. I spent the first 25 years of my life just trying to survive human interaction.

If not yourself, who would you most like to be?
I don’t know that I want to be them, but I envy other artists like Jeff Buckley, Edward Norton and Gary Oldman.

How often do you have sex?
Because we’re trying to get Monte to sleep in his bedroom, I’m sleeping above his bunk bed so not a lot at the moment.

What keeps you awake at night?
If I’ve spent money that I shouldn’t have or treated someone badly.

Would you rather have more sex, money or fame?
    More sex.

    What happens when we die?
    I believe in reincarnation.
