Pelicans vs Heat Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game
Trey Murphy III has been a lone bright spot in an ugly Pelicans season, and our NBA picks expect his red-hot shooting to continue against the Heat tonight.
The New Orleans Pelicans have dropped 10 straight, and snapping that losing streak will be a tall order tonight as the Miami Heat welcome Jimmy Butler back from a five-game absence.
My Pelicans vs. Heat predictions expect Butler to have a productive night in his return and for Trey Murphy III to continue his hot streak on offense. Read my NBA picks below for more.
Pelicans vs Heat prediction
My best bet
Trey Murphy III Over 19.5 points (-120 at bet365)My analysis
Trey Murphy III is enjoying the most productive season of his career with averages of 20.1 points and 3.1 triples across 34.1 minutes per game. Key injuries have piled up for New Orleans, and Murphy III has stepped up in a big way. I expect him to stay productive tonight in a favorable matchup.Murphy III has scored 20+ points in 10 of 20 games overall. He’s started the last nine games and hit the Over seven times in that span, including two of three on the road. In that nine-game span, he’s averaged a team-high 23.4 points and 3.6 triples while shooting 50/40/90 from the floor.
Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram are the Pels’ leading scorers this season, followed by CJ McCollum and Murphy III. With Williamson and Ingram sidelined, it will be up to McCollum and Murphy III to carry New Orleans’ offense. Dejounte Murray (16 points per game) is the next leading scorer, but his primary focus is playmaking and not scoring.
Miami’s defense has been a Top-10 unit in points allowed and defensive rating. The Heat have been vulnerable on the perimeter, which is where Trey excels. Miami has allowed opponents to shoot the 14th-highest 3-point percentage (36) and the ninth-highest at home (36.7).
The Heat have allowed the 11th-most 3-pointers to small forwards this season at 2.9, and over the last seven games, they’ve allowed the sixth-most at 3.6. Murphy is taking a career-high 8.3 triples per game this season and knocking them down at a 37% clip. He’s in a great spot to hit the Over tonight.
Pelicans vs Heat same-game parlay
The Pelicans have won only one time since November 16, going 1-19 in that span. I’ll take the more talented team at home, with superstar Jimmy Butler making his return after five games on the sidelines.
This PRA line is set a bit too low for Jimmy Butler, so I’m happy to add it to this parlay. He cashed the Over in three of his last five full games, and he’s done so in 11 games overall. Butler has appeared in 20 games this season, but he logged seven minutes in two of them. The superstar has played 18 games with at least 20 minutes and hit the Over on this line in 61.1% of them, including 66.7% of his home appearances.
The Pels have allowed the sixth-most points, fourth-most rebounds, and sixth-most assists this season, and I expect him to have a strong performance in this excellent matchup.

Tonight’s NBA matchup features the New Orleans Pelicans taking on the Miami Heat in what promises to be an exciting game. Both teams are coming off of strong performances and will be looking to secure a win to continue their playoff push. The Pelicans have been playing well as of late, led by the dynamic duo of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. They have shown great chemistry on the court and have been able to put up big numbers on offense. On the other hand, the Heat have been struggling with injuries but have managed to stay competitive thanks to the leadership of Jimmy Butler and the sharpshooting of Duncan Robinson.
In terms of predictions, this game could go either way as both teams have the talent to pull off a win. The Pelicans will need to focus on containing the Heat’s shooters and exploiting their size advantage in the paint. On the other hand, the Heat will need to limit turnovers and play solid defense to keep up with the Pelicans’ high-scoring offense.
As for picks, I believe the Pelicans will have the edge in this game and will come out on top. They have been playing with a lot of energy and momentum, and I expect them to continue their winning streak tonight.
In terms of odds, the Pelicans are currently listed as slight favorites with -110 odds, while the Heat are listed at +105. This indicates that oddsmakers believe the Pelicans have a slight advantage in this matchup.
Overall, I predict a close and competitive game between the Pelicans and Heat, but ultimately I see the Pelicans coming out on top. Be sure to tune in tonight to catch all the action!

Clippers vs Pelicans Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game
Ivica Zubac is having a career year, and the Pelicans won’t have an answer for him in the paint tonight.
The New Orleans Pelicans will look to snap a nine-game skid when the Los Angeles Clippers visit Smoothie King Center tonight.
My Clippers vs. Pelicans predictions expect Ivica Zubac to dominate a favorable matchup in the paint.
Read why in my NBA picks for December 30.
Clippers vs Pelicans prediction
My best bet
Ivica Zubac Over 27.5 points+rebounds (-120 at bet365)My analysis
Just like Chewy with Han Solo, “Zubacca” has been the ultimate wingman for James Harden and Norm Powell this season. The Los Angeles Clippers big man is having a career year. He’s averaging personal bests of 15.2 points and 12.6 rebounds, which is good for 27.8 points + rebounds, just slightly over this line.
Home-road splits are important to consider for this one, as Ivica Zubac has averaged 25.5 PR at home and 30.7 on the road. He’s hit the Over in 19 of 31 games overall, including 11 of 14 away from Intuit Dome.
Zubac has been particularly potent across his last seven. In that span, he’s averaged 17.7 points and 14 rebounds and hit the Over six times. He’s found his rhythm, and he’s in a great position to be productive against the New Orleans Pelicans tonight.
The Pelis have allowed the fourth-most rebounds and second-most points in the paint. Starting big man Yves Missi is questionable, and if he sits, New Orleans’ frontcourt depth is razor-thin behind him.
Even if he plays, Missi is a rookie, and the veteran Zubac should be able to win that matchup. The Pels have allowed opposing centers to score 23.8 points and grab an NBA-high 17.2 boards. This is an easy Over for Zubacca, and I don’t have a bad feeling about this.
Clippers vs Pelicans same-game parlay
The Pels are one of the worst teams in the Association, and they’ve only been slightly better against the spread than they have been straight up.
L.A. sports the third-best ATS record in the NBA at 19-11-1, while New Orleans is just 11-21. The Clippers have covered in four of the last five, and they’ll make it five of six tonight.
“Stormin’ Norman” leads the Clippers in scoring this season with career bests of 24.2 points and 3.8 triples. He’s gone for at least 24 points in 14 of 24 games overall and in six of 10 on the road. Powell has scored 26 or more points in five straight, and he gets a great matchup tonight to add to that streak.

In terms of predictions, the Clippers are favored to win this game with their strong lineup and recent success. However, the Pelicans have shown that they are a tough team to beat, especially with the standout performances from Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram.

Pelicans’ Yves Missi leaps to head of NBA’ s rookie class | Pelicans
Yves Missi rose high off of the Smoothie King Center floor, his giant left hand near the top of the square on the backboard.
The result of the play Sunday was a blocked shot against perhaps the greatest basketball player on the planet. The rejection of the shot by Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic will no doubt be on Missi’s rookie highlight reel.
But it won’t be his most notable one.
Missi’s rookie season probably will be remembered more for the way he swatted away all the naysaying draft analysts who said his development would take some time.
Here are just a few of the things the experts said about Missi leading up to the NBA draft before the New Orleans Pelicans selected him with the 21st overall pick.
“His skill set is limited. He is a typical non-shooting, non-playmaking, non-shot-creating big man.”
BLOCKED!!!
“Lacks great feel for the game and polish on both ends of the floor.”
GET THAT OUTTA HERE!
Just 30 games into his rookie season, Missi has shown it might not take as long as people thought.
“He’s well ahead of the curve,” teammate CJ McCollum said. “He’s probably surprised himself. The development has been great for him. From the first day he got here to now has been night and day.”
He’s used his elite 38.5-inch vertical to leap right to the top of the Rookie of the Year race.
This week, he became the favorite to win the award on online sportsbook FanDuel. If he actually wins it, he’d be just the second player in franchise history to win the honor, joining Chris Paul who won it in the 2005-06 season.
The center position was a big question mark coming into this season after the reliable Jonas Valanciunas signed with the Washington Wizards. Even when the Pels drafted Missi, the position was still considered something that needed to be addressed.
But Missi has learned on the fly and been perhaps the team’s most valuable player through 30 games. He’s no doubt been the most reliable Pelican. He’s played in 29 of 30 games, starting 23 of them. He’s recorded seven double-doubles and is averaging 9.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. Missi leads all rookies in rebounding and is tied for the lead among all players in offensive rebounds per game (4.0).
Over the last 10 games, he’s averaging 12.6 points and 10.6 rebounds. That number is even more impressive when you consider the gauntlet of centers he’s faced over the last five games.
“He’s had a crash course in the NBA,” McCollum said.
Before Jokic, Missi faced Karl-Anthony Towns (Knicks), Alperen Sengun (Rockets), Pascal Siakam (Pacers), Damontas Sabonis (Kings) and second-year phenom Victor Wembanyama (Spurs).
“Yves is handling what we’ve thrown him onto probably better than anyone I can remember,” Pelicans coach Willie Green said. “And he does it with an extreme focus, an extreme confidence and keeps the game pretty simple for himself. His last four of five matchups were All-Stars. He’s battling these guys and holding his own.”
His stat line in Sunday’s overtime loss against three-time MVP Jokic and the Nuggets was 21 points, nine rebounds, two steals and three blocks.
Not bad for a 20-year-old rookie who was only 10 when Jokic arrived in the NBA. Jokic was even better Sunday with 27 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.
“It was great having the experience going against a player like him,” Missi said. “It’s like a dream coming true, to be honest. It’s always good just having to go coast to coast against them and see what I saw on TV when I was younger.”
It’s a dream that has brought Missi from his native Cameroon to the other side of the world. Teammate Dejounte Murray offers some simple advice to Missi as he begins to make a name for himself in the NBA.
“Continue to enjoy each moment, the ups and downs,” Murray said. “Everybody can enjoy the moments when everything is going good. Obviously as a team, we aren’t winning. But as an individual, you see the growth.
“I want him to enjoy his journey. You don’t want him to rush his journey and for him to think he’s got to be great today. But just continue to get better.”
Missi already has come a long way in a short amount of time. But he knows there is still a long way to go. His has 29 NBA games under his belt, just five games less than he played all of last season at Baylor. Rookies often hit a wall around this time of the year.
“You’ve just got to keep playing with a motor,” Missi said.
Missi gets a rematch with Sengun on Thursday when the Pelicans host the Rockets. Then on Friday he’ll face Memphis Grizzlies rookie center Zach Edey, the No. 9 overall pick who is the third favorite to win Rookie of the Year, according to FanDuel.
Green believes the best is yet to come for Missi, who just may have been the biggest steal in this year’s draft. In just two months, Missi turned from a project to a foundation piece.
“He’s just scratching the surface of where we think he can end up,” Green said. “I try not to put a ceiling on these young guys when they come in. They are extremely talented, high character individuals.
“When you have that combination of hard work and talent and come from a good foundation, I don’t know what the ceiling is. I don’t want to put one on him at all because I think the sky is the limit.”
The New Orleans Pelicans’ rookie Yves Missi has been turning heads in the NBA with his impressive play on the court. The 6’9″ forward has been showcasing his athleticism and skill, making a name for himself as one of the top rookies in the league.Missi’s ability to leap to the head of the rookie class has caught the attention of fans, coaches, and analysts alike. His versatility on both ends of the court, as well as his high basketball IQ, have made him a valuable asset to the Pelicans.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Yves Missi as he continues to make his mark in the NBA. With his potential and talent, the sky’s the limit for this young star. Pelicans fans can look forward to watching him grow and develop into a key player for the team in the years to come. #Pelicans #YvesMissi #NBARookies

The Memphis Grizzlies have started their 2024-25 campaign with an impressive 21-10 record, taking them into third place in the Western Conference. Despite having the fifth-easiest schedule in the NBA through 31 games, the Grizzlies have shown enough to prove they can compete with the best of the best.
Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant has been the star of the show in Memphis as usual, but the 25-year-old All-Star has had a hard time staying on the court. Morant has already missed 12 games this season, and an early departure in Friday’s matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans has left fans worried once again.
Ja Morant takes a hard hit on the screen from Theis

— eric (@EricTweetsNBA) December 28, 2024
After Morant spent some time in the locker room, the Grizzlies announced an update.
Per their official PR account, the Grizzlies have announced that Morant is doubtful to return against the Pelicans on Friday night with a right shoulder injury.
Ja Morant (right shoulder) is doubtful to return tonight against the Pelicans.
— Grizzlies PR (@GrizzliesPR) December 28, 2024
The Grizzlies jumped out to take as much as a 22-point lead in New Orleans, but Morant’s injury is certainly not what the team needs. Pelicans center Daniel Theis set a hard screen on Morant in the third quarter, causing him to go down hard, and would immediately be escorted to the locker room holding his neck/upper back.
While the Grizzlies look like they will have no trouble leaving New Orleans with a win, they cannot afford to lose Morant for an extended time. Memphis’ next 11 games are all against competitive Western Conference teams, nine of which are on the road.
Morant will finish Friday with 25 points and 7 assists in just 25 minutes of action, another productive night from the Grizzlies star.
NBA Fans React to Yuki Kawamura’s Performance vs. Trail Blazers
The Memphis Grizzlies have announced that star point guard Ja Morant will be out indefinitely after suffering a sprained ankle in their recent game against the New Orleans Pelicans. Morant, who has been a key player for the Grizzlies this season, went down in the third quarter of the game and had to be helped off the court. This news comes as a blow to the Grizzlies, who are currently fighting for a playoff spot in the competitive Western Conference. Morant has been averaging 19.3 points, 5.8 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game this season and his absence will surely be felt on both ends of the court.
Despite this setback, the Grizzlies are confident in their depth and ability to continue competing without Morant. Backup point guard Tyus Jones will likely see an increase in playing time in Morant’s absence, and the team will need other players to step up and fill the void left by their star guard.
We wish Ja Morant a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the court soon. In the meantime, the Grizzlies will continue to push forward and fight for a playoff spot in the tough Western Conference.

Grizzlies’ Ja Morant leaves game vs Pelicans after a hard screen
Ja Morant left Friday’s Memphis Grizzlies game against the New Orleans Pelicans in the third quarter and went to the locker room.
Morant fell to the floor at Smoothie King Center after a hard screen from Pelicans center Daniel Theis. While lying on the floor, Morant appeared to be experiencing pain in his neck.
The play was originally called an offensive foul on Theis, but it was reviewed and changed to a legal screen.
Before heading to the locker room, Morant went to the bench. The Grizzlies medical team was doing work on his neck before he got up and headed to the locker room. Morant returned to the bench in thr fourth quarter in street clothes with what the team described as a right shoulder injury.
Morant had 25 points and seven assists in 25 minutes before exiting the game.
Memphis (21-10) entered the game having won seven of its past nine games.

The Memphis Grizzlies suffered a scare on Monday night as their star point guard Ja Morant was forced to leave the game against the New Orleans Pelicans after taking a hard screen in the second quarter.Morant, who had been playing at an elite level this season, appeared to be in significant pain as he walked off the court with the team’s medical staff. The Grizzlies later announced that Morant had suffered a lower back injury and would not return to the game.
The loss of Morant was a big blow for the Grizzlies, who rely heavily on his scoring and playmaking abilities. Without him on the court, the team struggled to generate offense and ultimately fell to the Pelicans.
After the game, head coach Taylor Jenkins expressed concern for Morant’s health and hoped for a speedy recovery. The team will undoubtedly be monitoring his status closely in the coming days as they prepare for their next game.
Fans of the Grizzlies will be anxiously awaiting updates on Morant’s condition and hoping for a quick return to action for the young star. In the meantime, the team will need to find a way to adjust and continue to compete without their floor general.

What to Know
The Grizzlies will be playing the full four quarters on Friday, but they’re expected to have things wrapped up well before that. They and the New Orleans Pelicans will face off at 8:00 p.m. ET at Smoothie King Center without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The Grizzlies are strutting in with some offensive muscle as they’ve averaged 123.7 points per game this season.
The Grizzlies’ season wasn’t pretty last year but it’s starting to look like struggles are in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Raptors with a sharp 155-126 victory on Thursday. Memphis’ offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they’ve scored all season.
The Grizzlies relied on the efforts of Zach Edey, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds, and Jaren Jackson Jr., who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. What’s more, Jackson Jr. also racked up four offensive rebounds, the most he’s had since back in March.
The Grizzlies were working as a unit and finished the game with 36 assists (they’re ranked second in assists per game overall). That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they’ve now racked up at least 25 assists in 16 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, the Pelicans’ recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their eighth straight loss. They took a hard 128-111 fall against the Rockets. New Orleans was down 102-74 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Memphis is on a roll lately: they’ve won 13 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-10 record this season. As for New Orleans, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-26.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: The Grizzlies haven’t had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 123.7 points per game (they’re ranked first in scoring overall). It’s a different story for the Pelicans, though, as they’ve been averaging only 105.9. The only thing between the Grizzlies and another offensive beatdown is the Pelicans. Will they be able to keep them contained?
The Grizzlies beat the Pelicans 120-109 when the teams last played back in November. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the team won’t have the home-court advantage this time around. We’ll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
Odds
Memphis is a big 9.5-point favorite against New Orleans, according to the latest NBA odds.
The oddsmakers were right in line with the betting community on this one, as the game opened as a 9.5-point spread, and stayed right there.
The over/under is 237.5 points.

Things move fast in the NBA.
Less than 24 hours after a record-setting 155-point performance against the Toronto Raptors, the Memphis Grizzlies are back in action on Friday night against the New Orleans Pelicans.
This matchup is the first of fives games on a West coast road trip.
The Pelicans (5-26) have the worst record in the Western Conference. Injuries to All-Stars Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson have limited the team after a season of high expectations. ‘
Things are going in the other direction for Memphis (21-10). The Grizzlies have been one of the NBA’s best teams due to a deep team that has the league’s highest scoring bench unit.
That depth will be tested again on Friday. Santi Aldama, who left Thursday’s game in the first quarter, is out against New Orleans. He has been one of the NBA’s top reserves and a Sixth Man of the Year candidate.
Marcus Smart also remains out due to a right index finger injury. Grizzlies center Jay Huff is listed as questionable due to an ankle injury. His potential return could help the frontcourt depth without Aldama.
This is the second meeting between the Grizzlies and Pelicans this season. Memphis won the first meeting 120-109 in November.
