    The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will face off in Super Bowl LIX, a rematch of LVII, but before the action begins, there will be some pregame performances to kickoff the biggest night in football. The 2025 Super Bowl is scheduled for Sunday, Feb 9 at 6:30 p.m. ET. 

    Five-time Grammy award winner Jon Batiste will be performing the national anthem ahead of the game at Caesars Superdome. The singer, songwriter and composer is a New Orleans native and a 22-time Grammy nominee.

    He co-composed the score for the Pixar animated film Soul, earning an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Grammy Award and a BAFTA Film Award for his work. He composed the score for the Saturday Night, arranging the score live on-set while the critically acclaimed project was filming. Batiste also composed the score for his documentary American Symphony, which is nominated for two Grammys.

    His latest release debuted as the No. 1 Classical album, a reimagining of Beethoven’s most famous works titled Beethoven Blues (Batiste Piano Series, Vol. 1). 

    “We’re honored to work with this year’s pregame lineup to celebrate the rich musical legacy of New Orleans and the entire state,” Seth Dudowsky, head of music at the NFL, said. “The Super Bowl is a rare moment to unite fans around the world, and this year’s performers will bring the energy, soul and vibrant sounds of the region to a global stage, as we kickoff Super Bowl LIX with a celebration to remember.”

    Stephanie Nogueras will perform the “Star-Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful” in American Sign Language (ASL).

(Kennedy — who has caused controversy by sharing his anti-vaccine beliefs and more — was picked by Trump to oversee the Department of Health and Human Services.)

    Following her performance, Jewel received backlash from many longtime fans who felt that her appearance at the inauguration event was her way of supporting the current administration. On Friday, January 24, the singer-songwriter attempted to explain her reason for being there — but fans continued to call her out.

    The “You Were Meant for Me” singer, a longtime mental health advocate, shared in the selfie video that she was attempting to spread awareness about mental health issues, including the suicide rate in children.

    “If there is one thing I’ve learned in the past 20 years, it’s that mental health affects everyone. Across party lines,” Jewel explained. “There are things we can do to save lives … and if I believe I can help, I have to try.”

    For the four-time Grammy nominee, that means acting now — not “wait[ing] to try until I agree 100 percent with the people that might be willing to help me. I don’t think that’s how activism works, waiting until everything’s perfect enough to participate,” she continued. “It’s actually because things are so imperfect that we have to find ways to engage and to participate, and we have to act now. We cannot wait another four years. I believe there are people in the new administration that are willing to help on this issue.”

    Though she does “not agree on all the politics,” she explained, she believes she “can help change the policy [around mental health] … I am going to try and I’m going to fight.”

    Jewel then directly addressed her fans who were affected by her performance at RFK Jr.’s inaugural ball.

    “I am so sorry that I caused pain, especially in my LGBTQIA+ community because you guys are treasures. You make the world a better place. You’ve made my life a better place. I will not stop fighting,” she said. “It pains me and I am so sorry. And it pains me that some of my longtime fans feel that I have let them down.”

    The majority of people in the comments section of Jewel’s Instagram post were left feeling angry at her apology — and they didn’t hold back.

    “your actions and words feel completely at odds with the values you’ve always claimed to stand for. It’s heartbreaking to see you alienate so many of your fans, especially those who once saw you as a voice for compassion and understanding,” one person wrote.

    “No: You sold out. You bowed down to fascism, and your justifications ring untrue because this administration is actively hurting those you say you are supporting,” another user opined.

    “a mental health advocate supporting an administration that is destroying the mental health of the LGBTQIA+ and black and brown communities?” a third fan claimed. “Give me a f***ing break.”

    Still, there were a few others defending Jewel’s performance.

    “You do not owe anyone anything. Please stop apologizing to adult children,” one person shared.

    “You took a beautiful moment that you were grateful for and was such a huge honor and then you crapped on that amazing moment with this ridiculous apology to your whiney fans because something you believe in and had the great honor and privilege of doing upset a few people because they don’t hold the same beliefs,” wrote another follower.



    Jewel’s recent performance at the inauguration event has left many fans feeling upset and disappointed. The singer faced backlash for agreeing to participate in the event, given the controversial nature of the inauguration.

  • Will Ferrell’s Weirdest Comedy Gig Was Performing for O.J. Simpson Jurors


    Performing in an improvisational comedy group will inevitably lead to weird gigs, like working a corporate holiday party or hamming it up for a mere handful of paying customers. But when pre-Saturday Night Live Will Ferrell was with the Groundlings, he booked one of the strangest jobs of all — acting out comedy sketches for jurors in the O.J. Simpson murder trial.

    Ferrell’s Groundlings career happened to coincide with the trial of the century, he told Graham Norton per Chortle. “The jury was sequestered for a long time and couldn’t go out anywhere, so someone came up with the idea of performing our sketch show for them in the court to lighten the mood,” Ferrell remembered. “It was just us and the jurors. They seemed mildly entertained, but it was very bizarre.”

    Everyone felt sorry for the jurors, Ferrell explained to Conan O’Brien back in 1997. So the comedians did their thing under trying circumstances — middle of the day, in a brightly lit courtroom, for an audience of 12. Ferrell says he got no laughs but a few amused smiles when “I did Cat Guy for them.”

    Er, Cat Guy? That was a character Ferrell was trying to convince Lorne Michaels to put on Saturday Night Live, he told O’Brien. Imagine being isolated from the world for months, then being brought into a room to see a curly-haired man-child do this. 

    “This is starting to explain their verdict,” concluded O’Brien.

    Ferrell agreed. “I think we had an adverse effect.”

    Ferrell recently appeared on The Graham Norton Show with Reese Witherspoon, his costar in the upcoming wedding comedy, You’re Cordially Invited. Witherspoon, whose most famous role might be aspiring attorney Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, had her own peculiar courtroom story to share. “About seven years after Legally Blonde came out, I was called up to do two solid weeks” of jury duty, she told Norton. “When we went to deliberation and it came to choosing a foreman, the entire jury picked me. When I asked them why, they said it was because I went to law school!”

    Jewel is opening up about her choice to perform at Robert F. Kennedy Jr.‘s ball honoring Donald Trump’s inauguration, explaining that her commitment to addressing the nation’s mental health crisis transcends political divides.

    The 50-year-old singer-songwriter took to Instagram on Friday to share a video defending her performance at RFK Jr.’s “Make America Healthy Again” ball (aka MAHA), which took place in Washington, D.C., days earlier, while also apologizing to her “longtime fans” because she “caused pain.”

    At the event, Jewel sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” for RFK Jr., 71, a vocal vaccine skeptic selected by President Donald Trump to head the Department of Health and Human Services.

    Jewel apologized for causing her fans “pain” by performing at an inaugural ball held by RFK Jr. to celebrate Donald Trump.

    In her video, Jewel addressed her fans, apologizing to those who may have been disappointed by her actions. She shared that she felt it was more important to “act now” and work with Trump’s administration on mental health issues rather than wait for a political administration with which she fully aligns.

    “As many of you know, I am a mental health advocate. If there’s anything I’ve learned in the past 20 years, it’s that mental health affects everybody’s lives across party lines,” she explained in the video. “I reached out to the last administration, spoke with the surgeon general about the mental health crisis that’s facing our nation. I don’t know if you guys know the stats, but it is bleak.”

    Jewel expressed that she believes she can make a difference and feels compelled to help.

    “If I wait to try until I agree 100% with the people that might be willing to help me, I’d never get off the bench. I don’t think that’s how activism works, waiting until everything’s perfect enough to participate,” she said. “It’s actually because things are so imperfect that we have to find ways to engage and to participate. And we have to act now. We cannot wait another four years.”

    The Grammy-winning artist acknowledged that while she doesn’t agree with every political view held by the leaders of the current administration, she still believes there are people within it who are “willing to help on this issue.”

    “If I can help shape policy, make sure mental health is in the conversation when it comes to American health. If I can help put resources or mental health tools into the hands of the most vulnerable who need it, I’m going to try and I’m going to fight,” she shared. “And I understand that my words were overly simplistic. Half of our country feels hope right now, and I honor that. And half of our country feels disenfranchised and scared and vulnerable, and that is unacceptable.”

    Jewel also said she is “so sorry” that she “caused pain,” particularly to her LGBTQIA+ followers, whom she described as “treasures.”

    “You make the world a better place. You’ve made my life a better place. And I will not stop fighting,” she said. “None of us can afford to stop fighting, and I really believe that the only way we can change is in relationship. It isn’t in isolation or by isolating, it’s by being in relationship, by reaching out, by having hard conversations, and I really hope that we can push through our hurt and move toward understanding on both sides.”

    The “Hands” singer added, “It pains me, and I’m so sorry. Some of my longtime fans feel that I let them down.”

    “I want to be a ray of light in this world. I try hard to be a ray of light in your lives,” she continued. “And I know that in times of darkness we must grow light and so I will wake up again tomorrow and try again. And I will count on each of you to do the same.”

    She concluded, “I have so much love and admiration for each of you.”

    The “Masked Singer” Season 6 winner did not publicly endorse a candidate in the 2024 election.

    As a longtime advocate for mental health, Jewel co-founded the Inspiring Children Foundation, which focuses on helping at-risk youth in Las Vegas through a holistic approach to physical, emotional, and mental well-being. She also launched Innerworld, a virtual reality platform offering users a safe, anonymous space to access free mental health resources.

    The star was not listed on the press release for the MAHA inauguration ball and did not post footage of her performance to her Instagram account. 

    However, Jewel’s association with RFK Jr. is not new. On Jan. 4, the star shared a photo on her Instagram of her with him and two of his kids, Kyra and Conor, at an event supporting Inspiring Children.





    I want to take a moment to apologize for my recent performance at Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s inauguration event. I understand that my decision to perform at this event has caused disappointment and hurt among my fans and supporters, and for that, I am truly sorry.

    The singer performed in a nearly empty venue in Atlanta, Ga., on Sunday — and wild photos of the show have gone viral on X.

    The same hater shared a screenshot over the weekend showing that “just around 30 percent of the tickets [had] sold out” to the State Farm Arena show.

    Another troll asked, “true question why do some singers do this? if you know u cant sell arenas why do them? isnt it just extra costs for no reason and embarrassment?”

    Some, however, came to Cabello’s defense for still taking the stage — including Mod Sun.

    “99 percent of artists would’ve cancelled the show + put out a ‘mental health’ statement,” the rapper, 37, wrote on Tuesday. “She just gained my respect by still performing.”

    He explained, “That show meant the world to the people in the crowd that night. EMPTY SHOWS ARE STILL SHOWS.”

    Many fans agreed, with one gushing, “A real performer … loves her audience no matter the number.”

    Another claimed, “She’s in it for the long run y’all don’t get it.”

    However, a source told us that the instance wasn’t what it seemed because this wasn’t a concert open to the public.

    An insider told us that Cabello was performing for a “corporate event” and “only a few tickets [were] sold to the public.”

    Cabello, who headlined the show along with Myles Smith and Knox opening, gushed over her faithful followers afterward.

    “Being a fan is a transformative and creative and sacred endeavor,” she wrote in a lengthy Instagram caption Monday. “And the artist who gives to their community also gets, in the form of love, inspiration, and trust.”

    The Grammy nominee went on to write about how “honored” she feels to have fans, calling it “one of the sweetest relationships [she’s] known.”

    Cabello’s career took off in 2012 when she competed on “X Factor” with her fellow Fifth Harmony members: Ally Brooke, Normani, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui.

    Since leaving the group in 2016, she has gone on to release four solo albums and is best known for “Havana,” “Señorita” and other singles.

    The group announced an indefinite hiatus in 2018.

    Official venue lineups were announced Tuesday for the FireAid Los Angeles County wildfire relief concerts this month at two Inglewood venues.

    The two FireAid LA shows will be held concurrently Jan. 30 at the Intuit Dome and Kia Forum to benefit people affected by two of the most destructive wildfires on record in California.

    Tickets for show at both venues go on sale at noon Wednesday through Ticketmaster. Prices start at $99.

    Note: Tickets are only valid for the venue selected, not both venues. Fans at the Intuit Dome wil be able to watch the Kia Forum concert.

    Firefighters have made progress in efforts to contain two deadly wildfires that started Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County on a day of extreme Santa Ana winds that fanned flames in neighborhoods. The Eaton Fire in the Altadena area was nearly 90-percent contained Tuesday. Containment of the Palisades Fire on the LA County coast was at 63 percent.

    The fires are the second- and third-most destructive on record in California. Twenty-seven deaths have been reported.
