  • Gracie Abrams’s Fans Genuinely Launched A Petition To Replace Her Tour Opener, And The Whole Thing Is So Incredibly Awkward

Gracie Abrams has responded after her fans launched a petition to change the opening act for her European tour dates because they hadn’t heard of the announced artist.

Last week, Gracie — who was recently one of Taylor Swift’s support acts on the Eras Tour — took to her Instagram story to excitedly share that US singer Dora Jar will be supporting her The Secret of Us tour.

For reference, the tour began in Oregon back in September, with Role Model being the opener for Gracie’s 2024 US dates.

Dora herself couldn’t hide her excitement after the news broke, taking to her X account to share her appreciation for Gracie for giving her this opportunity. She wrote: “This has been the light at the end of a tunnel in my life. So grateful and I CANT WAIT!!!! I love Gracie, I love music, and I love you.”

However, not everybody shared her enthusiasm, with some of Gracie’s fans insisting that Dora is too unknown to be Gracie’s support act.

In fact, one was left so disappointed that, on the very same day as the announcement, they launched a change.org petition called “Replace Dora Jar as the Opening Act for The Secret of Us Europe Tour.”

Summary of petition to replace Dora Jar as the opening act for The Secret of Us Tour, citing the need for more engaging performances

In this petition, they insisted that it’d be “virtually impossible” for concertgoers to “familiarize” themselves with Dora’s music before the European leg of the tour kicks off in Madrid, Spain, on February 8.

“Many fans, including myself, are baffled by the recent announcement that Dora Jar will be the opening act for The Secret of Us Tour’s Europe shows,” the petition began. “We are perplexed as we do not recognize her, and with less than two weeks till the tour, it’s virtually impossible to familiarize ourselves with her slow-paced songs.”

The fan went on to claim that Dora’s music is not appropriate for a concert opener, writing: “For a memorable concert experience, an opening act should set the mood and get the crowd excited, but Dora’s slow tempo songs may not achieve this goal.”

“It’s not just a personal concern,” they added. “According to Billboard, upbeat opening acts are essential to the overall concert experience as they set the tone for the headlining act in keeping the audience’s energy up throughout the show (Billboard, 2019). Keeping this in consideration, it seems only fair that a more well-known, energetic artist or band should replace Dora Jar as the opening act.”

“Please show your support for a more enjoyable concert experience by signing this petition,” the fan then concluded.

While the petition has since been deleted, it created enough of a stir on social media for both Dora and Gracie to respond.

Dora’s initial response was to thank Gracie’s fans who had defended her amid the backlash, writing on her X account: “Hate comes with the job, the truth is this is the biggest outpouring of love I’ve ever received from a fanbase who is still unfamiliar with me. Gracie has beautiful open hearted fans and I am so excited for this.”

However, she went on to try and lighten the mood as she shared a Spotify playlist of her setlist for the tour and joked: “signed the petition but rehearsing these songs just in case I remain the opener!”

Dora then directly name-checked the fan who created the petition, writing: “Love u Dexter.”

But Gracie was a little more direct as she called out the “wildly uncool” reaction from this group of fans in a comment on an Instagram post about the petition.

Comment expressing excitement about performing with a talented artist named Dora, encouraging streaming of her work

“Just hearing about this absolute ridiculousness,” she wrote. “So wildly uncool and bizarre and also just does not remotely add up.”

“I’ve only seen everyone’s total excitement and couldn’t be luckier or prouder to share a stage with this talented wonder,” Gracie went on.

“Stream everything she’s ever made whether or not you’re coming to the show,” she concluded. “Dora forever and ever.”

Needless to say, the whole situation has left onlookers with a severe case of secondhand embarrassment, with many pointing out that a huge aspect of booking a tour opener is to platform lesser-known artists.

“it’s very embarrassing for gracie abrams fans to be making a petition to get rid of the opener. the point of an opening act is to give a small artist a chance to get new fans and for those fans to find new music. you don’t have to know all the songs just be respectful,” one person tweeted.

“wdym u made a petition bc u don’t like an opener….? go outside fr,” another popular post reads.

“why r gracie abrams fans acting like openers are supposed to be as big as the headliner,” somebody else asked. “like that’s literally the whole point of being an opener – growing ur audience??”

While a viral post about Gracie’s response simply concluded: “wow it’s so embarrassing that she saw it.”

  • Fans petition to have Dora Jar removed as an opener for Gracie Abrams: ohnotheydidnt — LiveJournal

Fans of Gracie Abrams have started a petition to remove Dora Jar as an opener for her Europe/UK tour. They state that her music is too slow tempo and 2 weeks isn’t enough time to remember her songs. They even go as far as citing Billboard.

Gracie has yet to respond but Dora Jar is not bothered.

This is a new level of fan entitlement. It is weird to me that they’re complaining about her music being too slow tempo when Gracie’s music is so slow (coming from a Gracie fan). Also I had no clue that people came prepared to remember the songs for openers they’ve never heard lolll.

Fans of singer Gracie Abrams are petitioning to have Dora Jar removed as an opener for her upcoming tour. The petition, which has already garnered thousands of signatures, cites concerns about Dora Jar’s controversial behavior and problematic past.

Many fans feel that Dora Jar’s presence on the tour could overshadow Gracie Abrams’ talent and distract from the overall concert experience. Some have also expressed discomfort with supporting an artist who has faced allegations of misconduct and offensive behavior.

In response to the petition, Gracie Abrams’ team has stated that they are aware of the concerns and are evaluating the situation. They have not yet made a decision on whether or not to remove Dora Jar from the lineup.

  • Gracie Abrams, Dora Jar React to Fan’s Petition to Replace Jar on Tour

Gracie Abrams just announced Dora Jar as the opening act for her upcoming tour dates in Europe. In a bewildering move, a fan planning to attend the February-March leg of Abrams’ Secret of Us Tour started a petition to replace Jar as the opener.

A screenshot shared on social media shows that the petition was created on Change.org.

Though Jar has previously been the supporting act for Billie Eilish and The 1975 on arena tours, and toured in support of her own album this past fall, the petition’s creator — under the pseudonym Dexter Morgan — wrote, “Many fans, including myself, are baffled by the recent announcement … We are perplexed as we do not recognize her, and with less than two weeks till the tour, it’s virtually impossible to familiarize ourselves with her slow-paced songs.”

They claimed, “For a memorable concert experience, an opening act should set the mood and get the crowd excited, but Dora’s slow tempo songs may not achieve this goal.”

What’s more perplexing: The petition organizer attempted to source Billboard to strengthen their statement that “upbeat opening acts are essential” at a concert. No citation link was shared, and no previous article appears to have been published on this website with those exact words, or arguing that opinion. (For what it’s worth, you won’t find this Billboard editor demanding upbeat openers.)

Jar responded politely when discovering the petition’s existence Friday night (Jan. 24).

“Don’t worry this doesn’t bum me out! I’m hear to perform for all the music loving open hearted fans. those who aren’t interested can go buy merch while I’m playing (but they might as well let me entertain them tho..;)) an overwhelming amount of fans have been so kind & excited,” she said in response to a message spotted on X (formerly Twitter).

Later she joked, “signed the petition but rehearsing these songs just in case I remain the opener! Love u Dexter.”

In another message Jar expressed thanks to fans of Abrams who’ve stepped in with words of support: “Hate comes with the job, the truth is this is the biggest outpouring of love I’ve ever received from a fanbase who is still unfamiliar with me. Gracie has beautiful open hearted fans and I am so excited for this.”

By Saturday, Abrams got word of the ill-mannered petition and spoke out on behalf of Jar.

“Just hearing about this absolute ridiculousness . . . so wildly uncool and bizarre and also just does not remotely add up. I’ve only seen everyone’s total excitement and I couldn’t be luckier or prouder to share a stage with this talented wonder. Stream everything she’s ever made whether or not you’re coming to the show. Dora forever and ever,” Abrams commented on Stereogum’s Instagram post about the situation.

Jar’s debut full-length album, No Way to Relax When You Are on Fire, was released in September, featuring the single “She Loves Me.” The album followed two EPs, 2022’s Comfortably in Pain and 2021’s Digital Meadow.

She first shared the news that she’ll join Abrams on her European trek, which kicks off in Madrid on Feb. 8 and runs through Glasgow on March 12, on Friday (Jan. 24).

“PINCH ME!!!!” Jar captioned the announcement on Instagram. “To all the beautiful Gracie fans in Europe and the UK: it is such an honor to announce that I will be playing some of my songs for you , opening for our golden hearted living legend GRACIE ABRAMS!!! A privilege to soon share the stage and this experience with you @gracieabrams. Can’t wait to see you all, I will share a playlist soon with some songs that I’ll be playing so you can get familiar and sway with me xoxox.”

Gracie Abrams, Dora Jar React to Fan’s Petition to Replace Jar on Tour

Fans of indie-pop singer Gracie Abrams were in for a shock when a petition started circulating online, calling for Dora Jar to be replaced on Abrams’ upcoming tour. The petition, which has garnered thousands of signatures, cites concerns about Jar’s performance and stage presence.

In response to the petition, both Abrams and Jar took to social media to address the controversy. Abrams expressed her support for Jar, stating that she is an integral part of the tour and that the two have a strong musical connection. She also urged fans to be kind and respectful in their criticisms.

Jar, on the other hand, acknowledged the petition and thanked fans for their feedback. She assured fans that she is committed to improving her performance and providing the best possible experience for concert-goers.

Despite the petition, it seems that Abrams and Jar are determined to continue working together on the tour. Fans will just have to wait and see how their dynamic evolves on stage.

  • Universal Music Files to Dismiss Drake’s ‘Not Like Us’ Texas Petition

Universal Music has filed a motion to dismiss Drake‘s petition for pre-suit deposition in Bexar County, Texas, citing lack of evidence in the rapper’s claims against the record company that it artificially inflated and promoted Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us.”

Drake filed two actions in Nov. 2024 — both not lawsuits, to be clear — first, a petition in New York accusing UMG of conspiring with Spotify and a second against UMG in Texas. After Drake withdrew the New York petition to clear the path for a lawsuit, the Texas petition still stands, eliciting a response from UMG demanding dismissal.

In yesterday’s 144-page filing, reviewed by Variety, UMG seeks dismissal of the petition under the guise of protected free speech and based on the Texas Citizens Participation Act, which “protects from retaliatory lawsuits that seek to intimidate or silence them on matters of public concern.” The motion states that Drake brought his petition under Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 202, which is “designed to intimidate and punish people for exercising their First Amendment rights.”

The motion explains that under the TCPA, the burden of proof shifts to Drake to provide clear evidence of claims made in his petition including one that UMG “funneled payments” to iHeartMedia, the country’s largest radio network, as part of a “pay-to-play scheme” to promote the song on radio.

UMG claims that Drake can’t show a burden of proof for numerous reasons, including the suggestion he has no admissible evidence. The motion is clear about that point, stating that Drake “provides nothing outside of his verified petition” and that there is “no evidentiary support for his asserted need for pre-suit deposition of UMG.” UMG discredits Drake’s sources from his initial petition, stating that “these claims from unnamed, unidentified out-of-court declarants are hearsay and are not admissible as evidence.”

UMG concludes its motion with a request to dismiss the petition and to suspend all discovery related to the matter until the court rules on it. UMG also requests that the court order Drake to pay its attorney’s fees and costs associated with its defense.

In a separate filing yesterday in New York, Drake’s attorney submitted a letter endorsing UMG’s request for an extension of time to respond to his complaint. According to the letter, this was made in anticipation of UMG filing a motion to dismiss Drake’s case in the foreseeable future.

The ongoing legal war waged by Drake stems from his historic rap battle with Kendrick Lamar, which kicked into full gear after the latter dropped a fire-starting verse in early 2024 on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.” What ensued was a back-and-forth between Drake and Lamar that culminated in a flurry of diss tracks including Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” which inevitably became the biggest hit from the battle and was arguably a finishing blow to Drake.

Universal Music Group has filed a motion to dismiss a petition filed by rapper Drake in Texas, where he claimed that his song “Not Like Us” was improperly used in a commercial without his permission.

In the petition, Drake alleged that Universal Music and its subsidiary, Cash Money Records, had licensed the song for use in a commercial without his knowledge or consent. He further claimed that the use of the song in the commercial had caused him irreparable harm and sought damages for copyright infringement.

However, Universal Music has now filed a motion to dismiss the petition, arguing that Drake does not have standing to bring a claim for copyright infringement because he does not own the copyright to the song. The music label also contends that the use of the song in the commercial was authorized by the copyright owner, and therefore does not constitute copyright infringement.

The case is set to be heard in a Texas court in the coming weeks, and it remains to be seen how the judge will rule on Universal Music’s motion to dismiss. In the meantime, fans of Drake will have to wait and see how this legal battle unfolds.
