Eagles’ C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s wallet takes hit after Commanders game – NBC Sports Philadelphia
Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was fined $22,511 for each of his unsportsmanlike conduct penalties against the Commanders last week.
Not only did Gardner-Johnson get tossed from that game but his fines total $45,022 for the afternoon.
Gardner-Johnson, 27, was tossed early in the third quarter against the Commanders and the Eagles definitely missed him the rest of the way in their 36-33 loss.
Those two were the only fines from a chippy Eagles-Commanders game in Week 16.
The reason Gardner-Johnson’s fines were so high from this game is because these are not his first offenses. In fact, he had been hit with three unsportsmanlike conduct fines earlier this season.
In 2024, Gardner-Johnson has been fined five times for unsportsmanlike conduct for a total of $90,043 and was hit for another $11,255 for unnecessary roughness. That makes his total $101,298 in fines this season.
While it’s unclear exactly what Gardner-Johnson said to warrant both of those penalties and subsequent fines, there’s no doubt that it hurt the team when he was kicked out of the game.
“Yeah, we’ve got to be better than that,” defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said. “We don’t want that as part of our team. We don’t want to be known for that. Our guys have to do a better job of not getting those fouls.”
As of Monday, the day after the loss, head coach Nick Sirianni said the Eagles hadn’t gotten any further explantation for why Gardner-Johnson was kicked out of the game.
Gardner-Johnson is known for his fiery personality but it’s obviously not great to see him get kicked out of games.
“You never want to have penalties like that,” Sirianni said. “I always encourage our guys to be themselves, have fun when you’re celebrating, play how you play, but do it within the confines of the rules. That’s something I say to our guys all the time. That’s the same message here. Obviously, you don’t want those situations. I love how much energy and fire those guys play with, but obviously at no point do you want them to get a penalty or is it acceptable to get a penalty.
“But, like I said, there is a reason we have an edge on defense. We have really good players who play with great passion and great fire. That’s huge. We just always have got to understand and know to do it within the confines of the rules.”

Eagles’ C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s wallet takes hit after Commanders game – NBC Sports PhiladelphiaPhiladelphia Eagles’ cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson may have taken a hit to his wallet after the team’s recent game against the Washington Commanders. A fight between teens at the Cherry Hill Mall prompted a police response Saturday night, a spokesperson for the mall confirmed with NBC10.
The spokesperson said a group of teens were fighting at the mall on Rt. 38 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. During the fight, a person falsely claimed one of the teens had a weapon, causing shoppers to evacuate the area, according to the spokesperson.
Cherry Hill Police responded to the mall and found no evidence of a threat or weapon after reviewing surveillance video, the spokesperson said. Police cleared the scene and resolved the situation without any further incident, according to the spokesperson.
The mall spokesperson said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The spokesperson also told NBC10 a policy was put in place for the mall the day after Christmas in which minors had to be accompanied by adults during peak hours. Outside of that, however, the mall does not have a policy in general when it comes to patrons who are minors, according to the spokesperson.
Police have not yet revealed if anyone was seriously injured or if any arrests were made in connection to the incident.
On Dec. 26, two days before Saturday’s incident, Cherry Hill Police released a statement on their Facebook page on the mall’s supervision policy.
“The Cherry Hill Police Department and Cherry Hill Mall Management want everyone to have a safe shopping experience,” they wrote. “Parents and guardians should not be dropping off their children unsupervised at retail shopping centers. Juveniles not acting responsibly will be escorted from the property and those engaging in criminal behavior will be arrested and prosecuted. Cherry Hill Mall Management will enforce a parental escort policy on December 26, 2024 starting at 4:00 p.m. until mall closing at 7:00 p.m. All guests 17 and under are to be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult age 21 or older. Proof of age is required for admittance. One parent or supervising adult may accompany up to four youths.”

The altercation caused chaos and panic among shoppers, as authorities worked swiftly to diffuse the situation and ensure the safety of everyone involved.According to witnesses, the fight started near the food court area and quickly escalated, prompting mall security to call for police assistance. Officers arrived on the scene within minutes and were able to bring the situation under control, dispersing the individuals involved and restoring order to the mall.
Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported as a result of the altercation. The Cherry Hill Mall management has since released a statement, condemning the violence and emphasizing the importance of maintaining a safe and peaceful environment for all visitors.

Philadelphia 76ers Downgrade Joel Embiid vs Utah Jazz
Entering Saturday’s game against the Utah Jazz, the Philadelphia 76ers find themselves in a familiar position. They aren’t sure about the playing status of the All-Star center, Joel Embiid.
According to the Sixers’ injury report, Embiid is questionable to play. Not only is the star center still recovering from a sinus fracture, which has him sporting a mask, but Embiid is also dealing with a foot sprain. The sprain becomes his third setback of the season.
While Embiid has returned to action much quicker than expected after receiving the sinus fracture diagnosis, it’s unclear if his new ailment will break the trend of him playing this weekend.
Joel Embiid (foot) listed questionable for Saturday.
— Underdog NBA (@Underdog__NBA) December 27, 2024
Since the beginning of the 2024-2025 NBA season, Embiid has missed time as he managed the knee injury he suffered last season. The big man sat out for the first nine games of the season. After returning in four of the next five games after his season debut, swelling in the knee caused Embiid to miss an additional seven matchups.
Lately, Embiid has played in three of the last four games. Against the Charlotte Hornets on December 20, Embiid checked in for 31 minutes. He scored 34 points, nine assists, and five rebounds. Since it was night one of a back-to-back set, Embiid took the following game off.
When the Sixers faced the San Antonio Spurs earlier this week, Embiid’s night ended after just 14 minutes. He was ejected after a heated exchange with a referee.
Wednesday’s game against the Boston Celtics included a 30-minute appearance from Embiid. He produced 27 points, nine rebounds, and two assists in the four-point win over the Celtics.
Overall, Embiid has nine appearances this year. The star big man has averaged 21 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. It’s unclear if he’ll make it ten games on Saturday. As of now, Embiid is likely a game-time decision to face the Jazz.
The Philadelphia 76ers made a surprising move by downgrading star player Joel Embiid for their upcoming game against the Utah Jazz. This decision comes as a shock to many fans, as Embiid has been a key player for the team this season. While the exact reason for the downgrade has not been disclosed, it is clear that the absence of Embiid will have a significant impact on the team’s performance. The 76ers will need to rely on their other players to step up and fill the void left by their star center.
It will be interesting to see how the 76ers fare without Embiid on the court against a tough opponent like the Jazz. Fans will be watching closely to see if the team can still come out on top despite this unexpected setback.

A small flood led to a fire and evacuations at the Crozer-Chester Medical Center, officials said.
The fire started Thursday night at the hospital on Medical Center Boulevard in Chester, Pennsylvania. Footage from SkyForce10 showed a large number of firefighters as well as smoke coming from one of the buildings.
Crozer Health CEO Tony Esposito said the fire was caused by a small flood in one of the buildings. He also said critical care patients were evacuated due to the fire though no injuries were reported.
“We experienced a small flood that resulted in a fire, but there is no longer an active fire,” Esposito said. “Critical care patients were evacuated from the facility to safe areas and we have been working with the county to ensure their safety. No injuries have been reported.”

The Saquon legend grows (and some depressing stuff) – NBC Sports Philadelphia
Here’s the plan with this week’s Roob’s Eagles Stats: We’re going to load up with as many positive stats as we can until we get to the inevitable sobering stats to finish up.
After that game? We’ve got to mix it up. But we’ll start with the good so if you want to bail before the depressing stuff, it’s easy to do it!
1. More Saquon Greatness
1A. Saquon Barkley’s 68-yard touchdown run was his fourth this year of at least 60 yards, tying the NFL record set by Jim Brown in 1963 and matched by Adrian Peterson in 2012. Barkley now has eight career TD runs of at least 60 yards, which means he has as many in 15 games as an Eagle as he had in 76 games as a Giant. The only players in NFL history with more 60-yard TD runs than Barkley are Peterson (15), Brown (9) and Derrick Henry (9). Barkley also already has the Eagles career record. Bosh Pritchard had three in the 1940s, Wilbert Montgomery had three in the 1970s and Miles Sanders, Barkley’s college teammate, had three in 2019 and 2020.
1B. Barkley’s 1,838 rushing yards are 9th-most in NFL history through 15 games and most since Chris Johnson had 1,872 15 games into the 2009 season. He’s the only back in history with 1,800 rushing yards, a 5.9 average or higher and 13 rushing touchdowns through 15 games. Barkley needs 268 yards the last two weeks of the season to break Eric Dickerson’s NFL single-season record of 2,105 yards set in 1984.
1C. With 1,356 rushing yards and a 6.1 average since Week 7, Barkley is the first running back with 1,350 yards and a 6.0 average over any 10-game span since Peterson in 2012 (1,598, 6.8). Jim Brown, Eric Dickerson and Barry Sanders are the only other backs to achieve that.
2. Piling up the yards
With 211 rushing yards Sunday, the Eagles now have 2,087 rushing yards in their last 10 games. It’s the first time they’ve averaged 200 rushing yards over a 10-game period since they averaged 214 yards in a 10-game span in 1950. The only other team with 2,087 or more rushing yards in any 10-game span since 1980 (within a single season) is the 2019 Ravens.
3. First team in history
Barkley’s two touchdown runs Sunday gave him 13 this year to go along with Jalen Hurts’ 14. The Eagles are the only team in NFL history with two players rushing for 13 or more touchdowns. The Lions could join them, however. Montgomery and Gibbs each have 12 with two games left. This year’s Eagles and Lions are the only teams that have ever had two players with 12 rushing TDs.
4. A.J. and Quick
Thanks to his 97 receiving yards, A.J. Brown increased his season total to 1,043 and joined Mike Quick as only the second Eagle with three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Quick had five in a row from 1983 through 1987. Despite missing three games, Brown is now up to ninth in the NFL in receiving yards, and his 86.9 yards per game is 4th-highest and second to Justin Jefferson in the NFC.
5. The safety dance
5A. With Reed Blankenship and C.J. Gardner-Johnson both picking up their fourth interceptions of the year, this is the first time in 30 years the Eagles have two safeties with at least four interceptions. In 1994, Greg Jackson had six and Mike Zordich four. Last time any two Eagles had four INTs in the same season was 2010, with Asante Samuel (7) and Dimitri Patterson (4). The Texans and Lions are the only other teams with two players with at least four INTs.
5B. Blankenship’s eight INTs are the most by an Eagle in his first 39 NFL games since Eric Allen had 13 from 1988 through 1990. His seven INTs since opening day last year are 5th-most among all safeties. The last undrafted player with more INTs in a season for the Eagles is Andre Waters, who had six in 1985. Patterson also had four in 2010. Blankenship’s seven INTs since the start of last year are the most by any undrafted player.
And now the maybe not so much fun – but just as fascinating – portion of this week’s Eagles Stats. Continue at your own risk!
6. Five touchdowns? Seriously?
Jayden Daniels became the third quarterback in NFL history and the first rookie to throw five touchdown passes and rush for at least 80 yards in the same game. Cam Newton did it in 2015 against the Giants and Lamar Jackson in three weeks apart against the Rams and Jets. Overall, he’s the seventh rookie with five TDs in a game and the second to do it against the Eagles. Jameis Winston threw five TDs for the Bucs as a rookie against the Eagles in 2015 in his 10th NFL start.
7. A quarter to forget
Daniels is the sixth QB to throw three touchdowns against the Eagles in a fourth quarter, following Wade Wilson of the Vikings in 1985, Joe Montana of the 49ers in 1989, Erik Kramer of the Bears in 1994, Boomer Esiason of the Cards in 1996 and Eli Manning of the Giants in 2017.
8. This just shouldn’t happen
This was the first time in 25 years the Eagles lost a game in which they had five takeaways. In 1999, in a game started by Doug Pederson, they lost 16-15 to the Giants despite interceptions by Jeremiah Trotter, Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor (for a touchdown) and forced fumbles by Bill Johnson and Mike Mamula. They also fell to 64-5 since 1988 when they’ve been plus-three or better. They had won 28 straight games when they won the turnover differential dating back to a loss to the Chiefs in 2021.
9. Remember the Brian Finneran game?
This was also the first time in 25 years the Eagles lost a game after scoring 21 points in the first quarter. Last time it happened was the first game Andy Reid ever coached. The Eagles took a 21-0 lead over the Cards at the Vet on Doug Pederson touchdown passes to Luther Broughton and Duce Staley and a Staley TD run. But Jake Plummer and the Cards outscored the Eagles 25-3 the rest of the way. The Eagles also lost that game on the final play of the game, a 31-yard Chris Jacke field goal set up by Brian Finneran’s drop on a Pederson deep ball on a 3rd-and-4 just after the two-minute warning that turned into a Kwame Lassiter interception.
10. The floodgates finally opened
The Eagles allowed two touchdown passes of 30 or more yards Sunday after not allowing any in their previous 12 games. Daniels had a 32-yarder to Terry McLaurin in the second quarter and the 49-yarder to former Eagle Olamide Zaccheaus in the fourth quarter. The only other 30-yard TDs the Eagles allowed this year were the first two weeks of the season – Jordan Love’s 70-yarder to Jayden Reed in São Paulo and Kirk Cousins’ to Darnell Mooney in Week 2 at the Linc.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Week 17 matchups to watch
The Dallas Cowboys and the rest of the league have only two games remaining on the regular-season schedule before postseason gets underway. After learning they were eliminated from the playoffs last week prior to their Sunday night matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas still played to win and will likely do the same this week.
The Philadelphia Eagles present an interesting matchup. This is a team that has been playing really well all season, but was upset a week ago by their division rival, the Washington Commanders. They still have something to play for as far as winning the NFC East and playoff seeding is concerned, and will likely be doing their best to put another “W” in the win column.
Today, we thought we would identify a few intriguing matchups to keep an eye on in the second and last meeting between the Cowboys and Eagles this year.
Cowboys’ run defense vs. Eagles’ RB Saquon Barkley
All eyes will be on Saquon Barkley in the final two games of the 2024 regular-season. He is currently on pace to break a 40-year-old rushing record set by Eric Dickerson. Right now he has a total of 1,688 rushing yards, needing 278 yards to eclipse the record of 2,105 set by Dickerson in 1984 in a 16-game season. Barkley needs to average 139 rushing yards over the last two games to accomplish this feat. The only thing standing in his way is the Dallas Cowboys this week and the New York Giants next week in the regular-season finale.
Brock Hoffman vs. Eagles’ DT Jalen Carter
Brock Hoffman has played a total of 375 offensive snaps this year at both left and right guard as well as center. He has also started five games this season as an injury fill in. He could currently be in contention to be Zack Martin’s replacement next year at RG, but will still need to continue to prove himself over the final two regular-season games. This week he will be tested by the Eagles young and talented DT Jalen Carter. How well he’s able to stand up to him could go a long ways earning a potential starting gig next season.
DaRon Bland vs. Eagles’ WR A.J. Brown
DaRon Bland was tasked to pretty much shadow Mike Evans the majority of the game last week and did pretty good job containing him, only allowing a total of five catches for 69 yards. He could be asked to do the same thing this week against the Philadelphia Eagles No. 1 WR A.J. Brown. This is one of those best against best matchups we all love to watch to see how things play out. Keep an eye on No. 26 this week and next, because he’s still looking for his first interception this year and has two games left to play to secure one of the season.
As we head into the final week of the NFL regular season, all eyes are on the highly anticipated matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. With playoff implications on the line, both teams will be looking to secure a crucial win in this divisional showdown. Here are some key matchups to watch in this must-see game:1. Dak Prescott vs. Jalen Hurts: The battle of the quarterbacks will be a crucial factor in determining the outcome of this game. Prescott has been a force to be reckoned with this season, throwing for over 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns. On the other side, Hurts has shown flashes of brilliance in his rookie season and will be looking to outduel the veteran signal-caller.
2. Ezekiel Elliott vs. Miles Sanders: The running backs will play a significant role in this matchup, with Elliott and Sanders both looking to establish the ground game early on. Elliott has been a workhorse for the Cowboys, while Sanders has been a dynamic threat for the Eagles. Whichever team can establish the run game early on will have a significant advantage.
3. Trevon Diggs vs. DeVonta Smith: The battle between the rookie cornerback and wide receiver will be one to watch. Diggs has been a standout performer for the Cowboys this season, while Smith has been a reliable target for Hurts. The matchup between these two talented players could be a game-changer.
4. Micah Parsons vs. Dallas Goedert: The battle between the rookie linebacker and tight end will be a key matchup to watch. Parsons has been a game-changer for the Cowboys defense, while Goedert has been a reliable target for Hurts. Keeping an eye on this matchup could provide insight into how the game will unfold.
Overall, the Week 17 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles is sure to be a thrilling contest with playoff implications on the line. Be sure to tune in to see how these key matchups play out and which team will come out on top.

The latest on Jalen Hurts, Kenny Pickett from Thursday’s practice – NBC Sports Philadelphia
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (concussion) was not at practice on Thursday afternoon during the early portion open to reporters.
His status for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys is very much in question.
Meanwhile, backup quarterback Kenny Pickett (ribs) was practicing with some extra padding around his midsection.
Thursday’s practice was the Eagles’ first practice of the week. They held a walkthrough on Tuesday and had a day off on Wednesday for Christmas. Despite the day off, the Eagles had to put out an estimated injury report Wednesday. On that estimated report, Hurts was listed as a non-participant, while Pickett was listed as limited.
Earlier in the day, Nick Sirianni was extremely evasive when asked multiple times about the status of his top two quarterbacks.
“We got a plan of what we want to do,” Sirianni said, “and we’ll see how today goes and how warmups go and how individual goes and then into 7-on-7 and team.”
The Eagles’ head coach allowed that some of the evasiveness was because they still don’t know enough information but some of it was in the name of competitive advantage.
The Eagles will put out another injury report later this afternoon.
Hurts suffered his concussion in the first quarter of the Eagles’ loss to the Commanders on Sunday in Washington. He tried to remain in the game but was checked out and then eventually ruled out. He remains in the concussion protocol.
Pickett replaced Hurts in that game but suffered a ribs injury. He needed X-rays after the game and further tests to start the week. After the game, Pickett said he wasn’t concerned about his status for the following week.
Against the Commanders, Pickett completed 14 of 24 passes for 143 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. The Eagles had to settle for four second-half field goals as the Commanders came back and won the game.
The last time a different quarterback other than Hurts started a regular season game for the Eagles was late in the 2022 regular season when Gardner Minshew lost back-to-back games to the Cowboys and Saints. But that could happen this week.
On Thursday morning, the Eagles brought back quarterback Ian Book to the practice squad as some insurance at the position. Book was with the Eagles in 2022. He will be behind Tanner McKee on the Eagles’ depth chart. McKee has been the Eagles’ third-stringer since he was drafted last year in the sixth round. While McKee has not played in a regular season game, he had a strong training camp this summer.
Nakobe Dean (abdomen), who was listed as a DNP on Wednesday, was practicing on Thursday.
Will Shipley (concussion) did not practice on Thursday and remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol.
The two players listed as full participants on the injury report to start the week — WR Britain Covey (neck) and DE Bryce Huff (wrist) — practiced again. Huff’s practice window opened last week. He is coming back from wrist surgery on Nov. 21.
