  • Watch Philly mayor’s misspelled version of Eagles chant – NBC10 Philadelphia

We’ve all been there at some point, struggling with the spelling of E-A-G-L-E-S during an impromptu Eagles chant. It just wasn’t caught on video.

During a wintry weather preparations news conference in the hours before the Philadelphia Eagles’ snowy playoff win over the Los Angles Rams, Mayor Cherelle Parker had her moment of messing up the chant.

    Léelo en español aquí.

“Listen we gotta do this,” the first-term Democrat said while standing outside with city officials after deeming travel to the Jan. 19, 2025, Eagles game “essential.”

“Let me hear you all sing,” Parker — wearing a kelly green beanie and scarf — says before leading the crowd with a chant of “E-L-G-S-E-S, Eagles!” Some people in the crowd can be heard chanting the proper spelling.

“Let’s Go Birds!” she says before stepping away from the podium.

The error wasn’t apparently caught in real time Sunday, but started making rounds on social media in the hours after the Eagles advanced to the NFC Championship Game.

“We don’t promise perfection, I’m so happy that I never have, especially after I couldn’t spell Eagles right,” Parker said with a chuckle at an unrelated event in Kensington Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025. The comment got laughs from those in the room.

In true Philly fashion, Parker’s flub has already inspired a T-shirt. Phillygoat is selling a kelly green “E-L-G-S-E-S” shirt in several sizes.

We will need to wait and see if Parker will get a chance at Eagles chant redemption ahead of Sunday’s showdown with the division rival from Washington.

  • Flyers’ Rodrigo Abols glad he gave NHL another shot – NBC Sports Philadelphia

VOORHEES, N.J. — Rodrigo Abols was just starting to wake up Sunday morning when he received a phone call from assistant general manager Alyn McCauley.

“It was one way to make an off day even better,” Abols said.

The 29-year-old was headed to the NHL.

With Ryan Poehling placed on injured reserve, Abols, a Latvian center who had spent the last four seasons playing overseas, was called up by the Flyers. He joined the club for practice Monday, putting himself on the doorstep of his dream.

And he should have no problem connecting with his new teammates. Being able to speak four languages — English, Latvian, Swedish and Russian — can only help.

“This group and this room has been praised a lot of times,” Abols said. “It’s very easy to fit in here.”

Abols signed with the Flyers last offseason just ahead of the June 15 deadline for players under European contracts. Because of the timing, he admitted to being a bit surprised when general manager Danny Briere reached out with the opportunity.

But Abols was ready to rejoin the AHL. He was a seventh-round draft pick of the Canucks in 2016. Prior to this season, the last time he played in North America was 2019-20, when the coronavirus pandemic abruptly shut things down.

So when the Flyers approached him last summer, he was compelled to leave the SHL for a chance at his NHL debut. That could come Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Center when the Flyers host the Red Wings (7 p.m. ET/NBCSP).

“I kind of felt it inside from the last time when I was here with all the COVID and stuff, there were some questions unanswered for myself,” Abols said. “I didn’t want to let this opportunity slip. When I’m done with hockey, I’m glad at least I came here and gave it another shot.”

In 34 games this season with AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley, the 6-foot-4, 205-pounder has put up nine goals and 10 assists. Over his last 10 games, he recorded three goals and four assists. He has quality length and plays a responsible game, with the ability to win key faceoffs.

What were the reports on Abols?

“That he has been playing well,” John Tortorella said. “Going to give him a chance here. … He’s a center and I guess he has been playing some pretty good hockey there.”

Abols centered Olle Lycksell and Garnet Hathaway on the Flyers’ fourth line at practice. Scott Laughton’s status for Tuesday is uncertain. The alternate captain was not at practice because of a personal family matter.

For Abols, he’ll look to be himself if he gets his chance in the Flyers’ lineup. An NHL debut would make the journey all worth it.

“It’s a dream come true to get an opportunity to play here,” Abols said. “Try to make the most of it and use the strengths I have and see what happens from there.”

Rodrigo Abols, the newest addition to the Philadelphia Flyers’ roster, is grateful for the opportunity to play in the NHL once again. In an interview with NBC Sports Philadelphia, Abols expressed his excitement to be back in North America and playing at the highest level of hockey. “I’m just really grateful for this chance to prove myself in the NHL,” Abols said. “I never gave up on my dream of playing in the league, and I’m so glad I kept pushing and working hard to make it happen.”

Abols has quickly made an impact on the Flyers’ lineup, showcasing his skill and determination on the ice. With his strong work ethic and positive attitude, Abols is proving to be a valuable asset to the team.

PHILADELPHIA — After a couple of disappointing losses, the Detroit Red Wings are hoping they can end their four-game road trip on a high as they visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.

The Red Wings felt pretty confident after defeating the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers to begin this road trip. However, things did not go their way this weekend, as the team scored just two goals in losses to the Tampa Bay Lightning and Dallas Stars. With the 4-1 loss to the Stars on Sunday night, Detroit has lost 10 straight games against its former Western Conference rivals.

With the consecutive losses, the Red Wings want to have some momentum before heading back home later this week. Currently, Detroit is seventh in the Atlantic Division, five points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.

  • Washington Commanders at Philadelphia Eagles Prediction: Odds, Best Bets, Player News, Injuries, and Stats for the NFC Championship

Washington Commanders at Philadelphia Eagles Preview:

The NFC Championship is set; it’s an all-NFC East title game, as the 12-5 Washington Commanders will take on the 14-3 Philadelphia Eagles.

The Washington Commanders defied the odds and played spoiler to the Tampa Buccaneers and the Detroit Lions seasons.

Prior to the start of the season, the Commanders were +300 to make the playoffs and had a projected win total of just 6.5 wins. The Commanders were +6000 to win the NFC and +15000 to win the Super Bowl at the start of the season. If the Commanders go on to win the Super Bowl, they will be the largest odds to win the Super Bowl since the 1999 Rams won at +15000.

The Commanders are coming off a dominant 45-31 win over the Detroit Lions. The Commanders’ defense forced Jared Goff to throw three interceptions and fumble the ball once. In that game, the visiting Commanders went off as 9.5 underdogs. They put up 45 points on the road against the #1 seed in the NFC.

The Eagles were a few yards from potentially being left at home this weekend when the Los Angeles Rams were close to coming back and upsetting the NFC East Champions.

The second half saw snow flurries. However, Saquon Barkley’s second-half heroics were more than enough to propel the Eagles over the Rams.

Barkley was basically unstoppable in that game. He ran the ball 26 times for 205 yards. Barkley should have another big game on the ground against the Commanders, who have the NFL’s fifth-worst rush defense, allowing 113.2 rush yards per game.

Latest Game Odds for Commanders at Eagles – NFC Championship:

    • Moneyline: Washington Commanders (+230), Philadelphia Eagles (-280)
    • Spread: Eagles -6
    • Total: 47.5

    NBC Sports Bet Best Bets:

NBC Sports analyst Brad Thomas (@MrBradThomas) is leaning toward taking Commanders +6…

Thomas: “The Eagles have been dominant all season, and their defense is playing at an elite level. However, the Commanders have shown resilience and toughness; it feels like they are peaking at the right time of the season. They finished the regular season with five straight wins and have upset the Buccaneers and the Lions.

Jayden Daniels is playing at the level, and the confidence the coaching staff has instilled in the rookie quarterback has seemingly taken him to new levels. The two teams have split the season series, but I think this game will be much closer than the Eagles would prefer.”

Commanders at Eagles Team Stats, Betting Trends:

    • The Washington Commanders are 12-6-0 against the spread
    • The Philadelphia Eagles are 12-7-0 against the spread
    • The Washington Commanders are +650 to win the Super Bowl
    • The Washington Commanders are 12-7 to the OVER
    • The Philadelphia Eagles are 11-8 to the UNDER

Quarterback Matchup for Commanders at Eagles:

    • Commanders: Jayden Daniels – Daniels has been amazing. He will likely win OROY. He threw for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
    • Eagles: Jalen Hurts – Hurts had a bit of a down year, but led the Eagles to the NFC Championship and an NFC East title. He threw for 2,903 yards, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

  • NJ man charged in crash outside Eagles stadium that hurt cop – NBC10 Philadelphia

Police have announced charges against a 45-year-old man from Sewell, New Jersey after, law enforcement officials claim, he crashed into a police cruiser outside the stadiums in South Philly during Sunday’s Eagles playoff game.

During the incident, which officials said, happened at about 5 p.m. along the 1000 block of Pattison Avenue, law enforcement officials claim Herrschaft was traveling eastbound “at an unsafe speed and driving carelessly.”

Herrschaft, officials claim, then shifted his 2016 black Mercedes Benz into reverse and slammed into a Philadelphia Police Department patrol vehicle.

An officer inside that vehicle, who was assigned to the traffic division, was injured in this incident, police officials said.

Following the crash, the officer was taken to a nearby hospital were, officials said, they were treated and released.

Herrschaft is in police custody and his bail has been set at $10,000. Court documents do not list an attorney on record to respresent Herrschaft, but, his next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 19, 2025.

  • Philadelphia police officer injured by suspected DUI driver

Suspected DUI driver injures Philadelphia police officer

I’M JERE GISH, AND I’M THE MAHFUZ. WELCOME TO THIS NEWS EIGHT UPDATE. SO WE JUST WATCHED THE INAUGURATION OF DONALD J. TRUMP HERE AT HOME, WE HAVE HUNDREDS OF DELAYS AND SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR SCHOOLS AND ORGANIZATIONS, ALL DUE TO THE BEER COLD. YOU CAN SEE A LIST OF THEM RIGHT THERE SCROLLING ON THE BOTTOM OF YOUR SCREEN. LET’S START OUR COVERAGE HERE IN THIS UPDATE WITH STORM TEAM METEOROLOGIST MIKE SUSKO, HE’S GOT A LOOK AT THE FORECAST. AGAIN. COLD IS REALLY THE BIG NEWS THIS WEEK MIKE. YES IT IS JERRY. I MEAN WE HAD THE SNOW YESTERDAY. NOW WE’RE SWITCHING TO THE COLD SIDE OF THINGS. AND NOW IN HARRISBURG RIGHT NOW YOU CAN SEE IT IS ON AT LEAST ON CAMERA, A VERY QUIET NIGHT. BUT WHEN WE LOOK AT THE TEMPERATURES 13 DEGREES, IT FEELS LIKE ONE ALREADY BECAUSE OF THE WINDS OUT OF THE WEST NORTHWEST AT NINE MILES PER HOUR. IT’S NOT GOING TO TAKE A LOT OF WIND TO REALLY KNOCK. THOSE FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES DOWN. HERE’S THE ACTUAL AIR TEMPERATURE. SO THIS IS WHAT YOUR CAR THERMOMETER IS GOING TO BE SHOWING AS YOU STEP OUT THIS EVENING. RIGHT AROUND 12 TO 14 DEGREES, DEPENDING ON YOUR LOCATION ACROSS THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. BUT THOSE WINDS SUSTAINED OUT OF THE WEST AROUND 5 TO 10MPH, WHICH NORMALLY IS A VERY LIGHT WIND, RIGHT? BUT WHEN YOU FACTOR THAT IN WITH TEMPERATURES LIKE THIS, MINUS ONE IS THE CURRENT WIND CHILL IN LANCASTER, MINUS TWO IN LEWISTOWN, ONLY A DEGREE THERE. ON THE POSITIVE SIDE IN HARRISBURG, ZERO IN CHAMBERSBURG AND SOME OF THE HIGHEST WINDS WE’VE SEEN TODAY SUSTAINED 22MPH IN HARRISBURG, YORK, AT 16MPH. LANCASTER GOT UP TO 18 AND SOME GUSTS THERE AROUND 25 TO 30MPH AS WE WENT THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. NOW, STORM TEAM LIVE RADAR NETWORK IS QUIET. WE DON’T HAVE ANY PRECIPITATION NEARBY, SO WE ARE DONE WITH THE SNOW. THAT’S GOOD NEWS, BUT IT’S THE FRIGID AIR THAT WILL BE MOVING IN AS WE GO THROUGH TONIGHT. SO WE HAVE IMPACT DAY ICONS THROUGH THIS EVENING, TONIGHT AND TOMORROW. IT’S BECAUSE OF THE WIND CHILLS THIS EVENING. WE’RE ALREADY SEEING THOSE WIND CHILLS NEAR ZERO. THEY’RE GOING TO DROP EVEN MORE OVERNIGHT TONIGHT. DOWN TO AS LOW AS MINUS TEN OVERNIGHT TONIGHT. ESPECIALLY FOR THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. TOMORROW WILL STILL BE VERY COLD WITH SINGLE DIGIT WIND CHILLS. ANOTHER THING IS THE BLACK ICE POTENTIAL THAT COULD DEVELOP THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT, BECAUSE ANY MELTING THAT OCCURRED ON THE ROADWAYS, ESPECIALLY WITH SOME OF THOSE SLUSHY ROADS HERE, I KNOW THEY WERE AT LEAST IN LANCASTER CITY, DRIVING AROUND. SOME SAW A LITTLE SLUSH THAT’S GOING TO FREEZE RIGHT OVER. NOW THE SUN HAS GONE DOWN, SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL FOR SOME SLICK SPOTS THAT SHOULD THOUGH, GET RID OF IT TOMORROW ONCE THE SUN COMES UP, WE HAVE COLD WEATHER ADVISORIES IN EFFECT FOR EVERYBODY UNTIL NOON ON WEDNESDAY. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT WIND CHILLS OF MINUS TEN OR LOWER ARE EXPECTED. NOW, AS WE LOOK AT THE TEMPERATURE VERSUS WIND CHILLS FOR TOMORROW, YOU CAN SEE THEY START OFF IN THE NEGATIVES AND GET INTO THE POSITIVE NUMBERS THERE. AS WE GO INTO THE AFTERNOON. BUT IT’S STILL GOING TO BE A VERY COLD TUESDAY AND THAT WILL CONTINUE. BUT WE DO STAY DRY, WHICH IS GOOD NEWS. SO PREDICTOR SHOWING A FEW CLOUDS AS WE GO INTO YOUR TUESDAY. HIGH PRESSURE TRIES TO TAKE CONTROL. MAYBE A FEW ISOLATED FLURRIES ON YOUR TUESDAY EVENING. BUT OTHERWISE HIGH PRESSURE WILL TAKE CONTROL. THAT’S ALSO WHY TOMORROW NIGHT I THINK IT’S GOING TO BE THE COLDEST NIGHT WHEN YOU HAVE HIGH PRESSURE RIGHT OVERHEAD AND THE WINDS GO CALM WITH THIS TYPE OF SETUP, WITH THE SNOW TEMPERATURES PLUMMET, THIS IS THE PERFECT RECIPE FOR THOSE TEMPERATURES TO TAKE A NOSEDIVE. SO HERE’S THE WIND CHILL FORECAST TOMORROW MORNING. -10 TO -5. WE HAVE THE SAME THING FOR WEDNESDAY MORNING. WEDNESDAY MORNING MAY EVEN BE A LITTLE BIT COLDER BECAUSE OF THAT HIGH PRESSURE. WE JUST SAW. NOTICE THOUGH, IT DOES GET A LITTLE BIT BETTER SLOWLY TO THURSDAY MORNING AND THEN EVENTUALLY FRIDAY MORNING. WE’RE DONE WITH THE NEGATIVES. SO YOU JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE PREPARED FOR HIGHS IN THE TEENS AND LOWS NEAR ZERO. WITH THOSE TEMPERATURES AND WIND CHILLS GOING TO BE REMAINING THERE AS WE GO THROUGH THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. SO YOUR TEN DAY FORECAST, WE HAVE THOSE SUBZERO WIND CHILLS CONTINUING TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY, LIKE I SAID. BUT NOTICE THAT THE TEMPERATURES DO BEGIN TO MODERATE AS WE HEAD TOWARDS THURSDAY. WE EVENTUALLY GET BACK TO THE 30S FRIDAY AND THEN NEAR AVERAGE SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. OUR AVERAGE HIGH THIS TIME OF YEAR IS 38 AND CLIMATOLOGICALLY SPEAKING, THIS IS THE COLDEST PERIOD OF THE YEAR. IT’S FROM THE 19TH TO THE 26TH WHERE OUR AVERAGES ARE AT THEIR LOWEST. SO THIS IS NOT NECESSARILY UNUSUAL FOR BEING COLD, IT’S JUST THE DURATION OF THE COLD. WE’RE GOING TO SEE SEVERAL DAYS LIKE THIS. AND THEN WE’LL EVENTUALLY WARM THINGS UP AS WE HEAD TOWARDS THE WEEKEND. SO MAKE SURE YOU’RE USING HATS, SCARVES, GLOVES, STAYING BUNDLED UP AND STAYING SAFE THERE OUT IN THE COLD, GUYS, BECAUSE THESE WIND CHILLS ARE DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. HEY, THAT’S THE SOUND HEARD ACROSS THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY TODAY. THE SNOW BLOWER. SO THIS IS DAN MCAVOY CLEARING HIS SIDEWALK ON RALEIGH DRIVE IN SPRINGETTSBURY TOWNSHIP, YORK COUNTY. HIS CHILDREN, LIAM AND LILY, ALSO HELPED OUT BY SHOVELING. IT DOES LOOK LIKE FUN. AND WHAT’S A SNOW STORM WITHOUT A LITTLE BIT OF FUN? NEWS 8 WITH COLE STAKER AS HE WAS SLEDDING AT RIVERFRONT PARK IN WRIGHTSVILLE, YORK COUNTY. IT LOOKS LIKE A GREAT TIME TO CLEANUP FROM YESTERDAY’S. SNOW IS STILL GOING ON. THE MAJOR ROADS ARE CLEAR, BUT SNOW PACKS ARE STILL A PROBLEM ON SECONDARY ROADS. ED WEINSTOCK REPORTS FROM YORK COUNTY ON PENNDOT EFFORTS TODAY ALONG ROUTE 462 IN YORK COUNTY, A PENNDOT TRUCK IS SPRAYING SALT BRINE ON A SNOW COVERED ROAD BETWEEN WRIGHTSVILLE AND HELLAM. PENNDOT HOPES THE BRINE WILL PEEL OFF COMPRESSED SNOW PACKS THAT LINE THE ROAD. THEY’RE TRYING TO GET MATERIAL DOWN SO WE CAN GET THEM SCRAPED OFF TO THE, YOU KNOW, GET THE BLACKTOP SHOWING. PENNDOT HAS SEEN SNOW PACK SHOWING UP ON SECONDARY ROADS. IT CAN TURN INTO A SHEET OF ICE IF TEMPERATURES PLUMMET. PENNDOT SAYS DRIVERS NEED TO BE CAREFUL IF YOU DRIVE SAFELY AND YOU DRIVE RESPONSIBLY, YOU’LL BE OKAY. YOU KNOW, UNTIL WE GET THAT SNOW PACK OFF, THAT’S THE WAY IT’S GOING TO BE. THAT WAS ED WEINSTOCK REPORTING. OF COURSE, MANY ANIMAL LOVERS AND THEIR PETS ENJOYED THE SNOW. THIS IS DAFFY AND TOBY PLAYING BALL WITH THEIR MOM IN EPHRATA, LANCASTER COUNTY, HAVING A GREAT TIME. NEWS 8 SUSAN SHAPIRO HAS MORE ON THIS SNOW DAY AROUND THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. THE SNOW BLOWERS WERE GOING STRONG IN LANCASTER AFTER THE SUNDAY SNOWFALL. SUSAN WISNIEWSKI SAYS SHE LOVES THE SNOW AND DOESN’T MIND THE COLD. AS LONG AS YOU’RE DRESSED WARM, THERE’S NO PROBLEM. I’M READY FOR IT TO BE OVER AND I’M READY FOR THE SPRING. BRING ON THE WARM WEATHER. THANK YOU. THE STUMP KENNEDY FAMILY BRAVED THE COLD TO TAKE A TWO MILE WALK TO AND FROM BUCHANAN PARK. THE CITY STREETS AND EVEN THE SIDEWALKS SEEM TO BE IN DECENT SHAPE. Early this morning, a Philadelphia police officer was injured by a suspected DUI driver in a harrowing incident that has shaken the local community. The officer was responding to a call when the driver, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, crashed into the officer’s patrol car.

The officer sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital. The driver has been arrested and is facing multiple charges, including DUI and reckless driving.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the risks that law enforcement officers face every day while serving and protecting our communities. Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured officer and their family during this difficult time.

Please remember to always drive responsibly and never get behind the wheel if you have been drinking. Let’s work together to keep our roads safe for everyone.
