Donald Trump is waging a very public war on Jerome Powell—so why hasn’t he picked up the phone?
-
Analysis: President Trump’s one-sided war against the Fed doesn’t show any signs of abating. And yet Federal Open Market Committee Chairman Jerome Powell says he hasn’t had any contact with the new occupant of the White House.
Even before President Donald Trump got the keys to the White House, he was repeatedly attacking the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) and its chairman, Jerome Powell. Yet now that he’s in the Oval Office, the commander in chief hasn’t even picked up the phone.
Trump has variously said he would fire Powell (the man he himself appointed), then declared he would allow Powell to finish his tenure if he complied with Trump’s desires.
Most recently he blamed the Fed for inflation, writing on his social media platform, Truth Social, that it spends too much time on issues such as “DEI, gender ideology, ‘green’ energy, and fake climate change.”
But despite the public dunking, it seems Trump hasn’t taken the fight directly to Powell. “I’ve had no contact,” Powell responded when questioned by reporters this week if he had spoken with the president.
The public lambasting may simply be a case of Trump signaling to his supporters that he is intensely focused on inflation. Price rises dominated the political rhetoric in the run-up to the election with the Republican politician promising to bring grocery prices “way down.”
The message resonated well with voters. After all, 41% of Americans named inflation as their top economic issue heading into the November elections, according to a Bankrate study of more than 2,000 people.
Voters also elected Trump because they believed he would handle the economy better than his rival Kamala Harris. In a Gallup survey of more than 900 registered voters, 54% trusted Trump with the economy while 45% sided with Harris.
So President Trump’s mandate to bring down prices is clear—and yet he hasn’t picked up the phone or driven across Washington, D.C., to meet with the man who directly influences the metric.
That may be because on some level, he knows he can’t.
Importance of Fed independence
What has surprised—and in some cases appalled—economists about Trump’s attempts to influence the Fed is that this tactic has not worked out well in the past.
The fundamental point of having an independent central bank—mandated to keep inflation at a base level of 2% and maximize employment—is that it is not beholden to the whims of politicians who revolve in and out of power once every four or five years.
The FOMC’s goals look to the long-term prosperity of the economy, not to manipulate its health twice a decade in order to install a certain individual in the Oval Office.
Powell has been clear on this, telling reporters back in September: “This is my fourth presidential election at the Fed, and it’s always the same.
“We’re always going into this meeting and asking, ‘What’s the right thing to do for the people we serve?’ … That’s always what it is, it’s never about anything else. Nothing else is discussed.”
A quick look at the history books is a reminder of why Fed independence is so critical.
In the 1970s, when President Richard Nixon was seeking reelection, he said of then–Fed Chairman Arthur Burns: “I respect his independence. However, I hope that independently he will conclude that my views are the ones that should be followed.”
Chairman Burns proceeded to follow the not-so-subtle hint, which in turn led to a period of stagflation—a possibility which still keeps the likes of JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon awake at night.
The Fed and democracy
In Trump’s continued baiting of the Fed, it might seem that any response from Chairman Powell is a bite.
But the Fed boss—and his peers—are aware that they are ultimately accountable to the public. Outright ignoring Uncle Sam’s democratically elected leader may not be the best way to demonstrate this.
The “elected vs. appointed” argument is one Vice President JD Vance has made himself—while conveniently overlooking the fact that President Trump brought in Powell in his first administration.
Vance told CNN’s Dana Bash last summer: “Agree or disagree, we should have America’s elected leaders having input about the most important decisions confronting the country.
“It would be a huge change, but whether the country goes to war, what our interest rates are, these are important questions that American democracy should have important answers for.”
Public accountability is a topic Fortune has put to multiple Fed presidents.
The leader of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Austan Goolsbee, explained: “Central banks should be held accountable for their actions. And they are. The evidence of what happened during the COVID times, in my view, [is that] there’s a lot of public accountability on the central banks—not just in the United States but everywhere—and that’s totally fine.
“That’s a completely different issue than: ‘Do elections drive monetary policy decisions?’”
Likewise Boston Fed President Susan Collins highlighted the fundamental target of her work is to improve the lives of American households. She told Fortune: “It’s important for people to understand the role of the FOMC or monetary policy at the Federal Reserve because of the importance of price stability and maximum employment for people’s everyday lives.
“It impacts individuals and their families and the communities that they live in. It impacts micro firms [and] individual entrepreneurs all the way up to our global multinational corporations. In order to have an environment that sustains rising living standards for our citizens, sustaining a low stable inflation and an environment with maximum employment really matters for all of us.
“That is what the FOMC is charged by Congress to do. That’s our job.”
Indeed Powell said he and his FOMC peers would be seeking “new ideas and critical feedback” from the public this year especially, as the group holds its five-year review of its monetary policy strategy.
“Our review will again include outreach and public events involving a wide range of parties, including Fed Listens events around the country and a research conference in May,” Powell said on Jan. 29 in his post–Fed meeting press conference.
Don’t spook the markets
Usually the Fed and the Treasury can expect to enjoy a fairly cozy relationship. Weekly breakfast meetings are the standard, Powell told the New York Times DealBook Summit last year—though whether the tradition will be adopted by new Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent remains to be seen.
And while the FOMC may deliberately ignore the behests of Wall Street, it also won’t want to upset the markets to the point of tipping them into a downward spiral—putting both jobs and prices at risk as a result.
Already analysts are hedging their bets on the tension between Trump and Powell. As UBS chief economist Paul Donovan said in an update on Jan. 30: “The idea of a March rate cut was called into question by the tone of the policy decision, and it’s not unreasonable to suppose that a March rate cut would be a higher probability if there were more certainty about the nature of the new administration’s policies.
“There might be a risk … that over-criticism by Trump might tilt the Fed toward hawkishness in any future close-call decision, in order to prove the Fed’s independence is beyond reproach.”

Donald Trump is waging a very public war on Jerome Powell—so why hasn’t he picked up the phone? In recent weeks, President Donald Trump has been openly criticizing Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, blaming him for the economic downturn and calling for his removal. Trump has even gone as far as to compare Powell to a golfer who can’t putt and has questioned whether Powell is a greater enemy than China’s President Xi Jinping.
Despite this very public and aggressive stance against Powell, one question remains: why hasn’t Trump picked up the phone and had a direct conversation with the man he is attacking?
Many political analysts believe that a direct conversation between Trump and Powell could potentially resolve some of the tension and animosity between the two. It could allow Trump to express his concerns and frustrations directly to Powell, rather than through Twitter or the media.
However, others argue that Trump’s attacks on Powell are more about political posturing and deflecting blame for the economic challenges facing the country. In this view, a phone call would not change Trump’s strategy of using Powell as a scapegoat for his administration’s economic policies.
Whatever the reason may be, it is clear that the ongoing public war between Trump and Powell is causing uncertainty and volatility in the markets. Perhaps a simple phone call could help to ease tensions and provide a more constructive way forward for both parties.

Fed’s favorite Inflation gauge showed price growth picked up in December
QI Research CEO and chief strategist Danielle DiMartino Booth reacts to the Federal Reserve leaving interest rates unchanged on Making Money.
The Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge showed prices rose as expected in December, and it remains above the central bank’s target level amid its ongoing efforts to wrestle down inflation.
The Commerce Department on Friday reported that the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) index was up 0.3% from the prior month and 2.6% on an annual basis. Those figures were in line with the estimates of economists polled by LSEG.
Core PCE, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose 0.2% for the month and increased 2.8% from a year ago, in line with estimates.
Federal Reserve policymakers are focusing on the PCE headline figure as they try to slow the pace of price increases to their target of 2%, though they view core data as a better indicator of inflation. Headline PCE ticked higher from an annual rate of 2.4% in November to 2.6% last month, while core PCE has been at 2.8% for three consecutive months.
Headline PCE showed prices for goods were flat in December, while prices for services rose by 3.8% from a year ago. Food prices were up 1.6% last month when compared with a year ago, while energy prices were down 1.1% during that period.
Wages and salaries were up 0.4% in December compared with the prior month – a slight deceleration after October and November both saw wage and salary growth of 0.5% in those months.
The personal savings rate as a percentage of disposable income was 3.8% in December. That metric declined from 4.3% in October to 4.1% in November and had been nearly 5% last spring.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
The Federal Reserve’s favorite inflation gauge, the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) index, showed that price growth picked up in December. This could have implications for the Fed’s future monetary policy decisions. The PCE index rose by 0.4% in December, slightly higher than the 0.3% increase in November. On an annual basis, the index increased by 5.8%, marking the largest year-over-year gain since 1982.
The increase in inflation was driven by higher prices for goods and services, including food, energy, and housing. This could signal that inflationary pressures are building in the economy, which may prompt the Fed to consider raising interest rates sooner than expected.
However, it’s important to note that the Fed has repeatedly stated that it expects inflation to be transitory and will not require immediate action. The central bank has indicated that it will continue to monitor economic data closely before making any decisions on interest rates.
Overall, the latest data on inflation from the PCE index is a reminder that price pressures are still present in the economy. It will be interesting to see how the Fed responds to this latest information in the coming months.

Ray Township’s Goike picked for Macomb board vacancy – Macomb Daily
A former state representative who served three terms in the Michigan House will be taking a seat on the Macomb County Board of Commissioners.
Republican Ken Goike was appointed by the GOP-majority board to the seat vacated recently by Don Brown, who had been the body’s chair. Brown, a Washington Township Republican, left office to take a postion in the Macomb County Public Works Office.
Although the final vote to appoint Goike was 12-0, a straw vote immediately before the final tally showed eight commissioners favored Goike and four commissioners favored Troy Patrick Kosal of Washington Township, a chemistry teacher for Utica Community Community Schools who ran for Washington Township supervisor last year.
Board Chair Joe Sabatini of Macomb Township, who voted for Goike, said he also liked other candidates among the 15 applicants but noted Goike’s experience.
“He has the accolades and experience,” Sabatini said. “He can get into it right away. He going to be able jump right in. I think he’s going to blend in well with the board.”
Goike of Ray Township, the owner of a trucking and excavation company, served in the Michigan House from 2011-2016 and has had a long association with running the Armada Fair, which after more than 150 years is one of the longest running fairs in Michigan. He ran for state senate in 2018 but was defeated in the primary by Pete Lucido, who left the senate after winning the Macomb County Prosecutor’s seat.
He also worked for about two years in a supervisory position with Republican Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller, who sat next to Goike in the audience at the meeting in the county Administration Building in Mount Clemens.
“I’m very elated the people (commissioners) had confidence in me,” Goike said after the meeting. “I know the area very well. This oppotunity came up, and it’s the perfect fit for me.”
He said he doesn’t have any specific plans for issues he may pursue but mentioned he has special expertise in infrastructure.
He plans to run for the post, representing District 1, in two years when the county will conduct a special election.
One of the applicants, Jean Zott of Shelby Township, said she appreciated the process of seeking the post and congratulated Goike. But she questioned the board waiting for two years, the 2026 gubenatorial election, to choose a commissioner for the seat due to the cost to the nine communities in the district for a separate election. She said it should be held sooner.
“I understand that elections are expensive,” she said. “Our government has made elections expensive (through early voting). And now we’re not having special elections because they’re expensive. … But it’s expensive to not have a special election.”
She noted that the constituents of District 1 didn’t get a say in the appointment and have to wait two years to have input, and that commissioners only this year went to four-year terms from two-year terms.
She said she doesn’t plan to run for the post in two years.
Brown, who attended the meeting, called Goike’s appointment “a good choice,” saying he has known him for many years.
“He checks all of the boxes,” he said.

Riley Leonard’s decision to transfer from Duke to Notre Dame following the 2023 season has paid off.
Through 13 games as the starting quarterback for the Irish, Leonard has led his squad to a 12-1 record, including a first-round win over Indiana in the College Football Playoff.
Notre Dame’s talented defense has played a significant role in the team’s success as well, but Leonard’s 2,293 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns (compared to six interceptions) and 15 rushing scores have been vital to the Irish offense. As a dual-threat option, Leonard has become one of college football’s most effective quarterbacks in the 2024 season.
As a senior, Leonard will be out of collegiate eligibility at the end of Notre Dame’s season. Could he hear his name called in the 2025 NFL Draft? Here’s what to know about Leonard’s draft projection and where he ranks among eligible quarterbacks.

Riley Leonard mock draft projection
Leonard’s numbers for Notre Dame this season have been impressive, but he’s not considered a top-tier quarterback prospect for the 2025 NFL Draft.
In the latest draft big board from SN’s Vinnie Iyer, Leonard does not make an appearance. Eight quarterbacks did make the list, although Penn State’s Drew Allar and LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier are both set to return to their respective schools in 2025. If an NFL team does select Leonard in April, he’d likely be viewed as a developmental prospect or depth option rather than as an immediate starter.
Other big boards have Leonard ranked as a lower-tier quarterback prospect, with NFL Mock Draft Database’s consensus rankings considering the Notre Dame passer the No. 173 overall prospect and a projected sixth-round pick.
Leonard could certainly hear his name called in the 2025 NFL Draft, but in all likelihood, that won’t happen in at least the first few rounds.

NFL Draft QB rankings 2025
Here are the top quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft, according to SN’s Vinnie Iyer:
Rank QB School Overall rank 1 Shedeur Sanders Colorado 8 2 Cam Ward Miami 9 3 Jalen Milroe Alabama 18 4 Quinn Ewers Texas 33 5 Carson Beck Georgia 59 6 Dillon Gabriel Oregon 100 The big board initially included Allar and Nussemeier, but with both quarterbacks recently announcing their decisions to stay in college for the 2025 season, Leonard could benefit.
Along with names like Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart, Syracuse’s Kyle McCord, or Indiana’s Kurtis Rourke, Leonard could be a quarterback that an NFL team takes a flier on in the later rounds due to his strong 2024 season.
Riley Leonard Mock Draft Projection: Will Notre Dame QB Get Picked in 2025 NFL Draft? As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, one player who is generating a lot of buzz is Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard. The talented signal-caller has been turning heads with his impressive performances on the field, and many draft experts believe he has the potential to be a high draft pick.
Leonard has all the tools to succeed at the next level, with a strong arm, excellent accuracy, and the ability to make plays with his legs. He has shown great poise under pressure and has a high football IQ, making him a top prospect for NFL teams in need of a franchise quarterback.
In mock drafts leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft, Leonard has been projected to go anywhere from the first round to the early second round. Some experts believe he could be a top-10 pick, while others see him as a mid-first round selection.
Ultimately, Leonard’s draft stock will depend on how he performs in his final season at Notre Dame and during the pre-draft process. If he continues to impress scouts and coaches, there is a good chance he will hear his name called early in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Only time will tell where Riley Leonard ends up, but one thing is for certain – he has the talent and potential to be a successful quarterback in the NFL. Keep an eye on Leonard as the draft approaches, as he could be one of the biggest stories of the 2025 draft class.

#Riley #Leonard #mock #draft #projection #Notre #Dame #picked #NFL #DraftWill Howard mock draft projection: Will Ohio State QB get picked in 2025 NFL Draft?
Ohio State QB Will Howard stared down criticism in the wake of a disappointing loss to Michigan and responded with strength, riding an aggressive approach to a win over Tennessee in the first round of the College Football Playoff. Is a national championship next?
The Buckeyes certainly look like they have the talent to run the table, but three more wins would require Howard to prove his performance against Michigan was just an aberration.
The former Kansas State starter has had a fine season after transferring to Ohio State, completing 73.2 percent of passes for 3,171 yards, 29 touchdowns, and nine interceptions along with seven touchdowns on the ground while working with arguably the most talented offensive core in the nation.
Here’s a look at Howard’s NFL Draft outlook and where he could land in April.
SN’s PLAYOFF HQ: Live CFP scores | Updated CFP bracket | Full CFP schedule
Will Howard mock draft projection
Howard isn’t projected to be a first-round pick. He’s more likely to go on Day 3 when rounds four through seven are held.
The Ohio State senior doesn’t appear on SN’s Vinnie Iyer’s top 100 big board, which includes six quarterbacks, and he’s ranked No. 160 overall in the NFL Mock Draft Database’s consensus rankings (No. 7 among quarterbacks).
Even in a much thinner quarterback class than last year’s, Howard doesn’t appear to be on NFL radars as a potential franchise quarterback. Most quarterbacks drafted after the second round are chosen as developmental prospects who teams hope to mold into either a viable backup option or, in rare cases, a capable starter.
While Howard has put up strong numbers in 2024, he did so with an excellent group around him and still had his share of turnover-worthy plays. Given he will turn 24 in the early weeks of the 2025 season, he doesn’t offer as much upside as some other high-ceiling QB prospects despite having prototypical size (6-4, 235 pounds).

Here are the top quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft according to SN’s Vinnie Iyer.
Rank QB School Overall rank 1 Shedeur Sanders Colorado 8 2 Cam Ward Miami 9 3 Jalen Milroe Alabama 18 4 Quinn Ewers Texas 33 5 Carson Beck Georgia 59 6 Dillon Gabriel Oregon 100 The NFL Mock Draft Database, which averages dozens of big boards into account, finds Howard ranked as the No. 7 quarterback in the draft:
Rank QB School Overall rank 1 Cam Ward Miami 1 2 Shedeur Sanders Colorado 2 3 Jalen Milroe Alabama 25 4 Quinn Ewers Texas 58 5 Carson Beck Georgia 70 6 Jaxson Dart Ole Miss 89 7 Will Howard Ohio State 160 8 Dillon Gabriel Oregon 166 Six quarterbacks went in the first round of the 2024 draft, but the 2025 class is much thinner. If he’s the No. 7 quarterback off the board, Howard would likely be a developmental Day 3 pick.

Regardless of what happens in the Peach Bowl, Cam Skattebo and Arizona State have already defied the odds.
Coming from FCS Sacramento State, Skattebo morphed into a superstar in his second season with the Sun Devils, riding bruising runs and clutch performances to a top-five finish in Heisman Trophy voting.
It’s no coincidence Arizona State exceeded expectations as well, going from 3-9 in 2023 to conference champions in the program’s first season in the Big 12. A playoff upset of Texas would elevate the Sun Devils from a fun story to a title contender.
When the season does end, Skattebo’s focus could turn to the NFL. Here’s a look at Skattebo’s NFL Draft outlook ahead of April.

Cam Skattebo mock draft projection
Despite Skattebo’s dominant season, he doesn’t rank among the top running backs in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Arizona State star isn’t on SN’s Vinnie Iyer’s big board of the top 100 prospects in the draft, and he ranks as the No. 147 overall prospect according to the NFL Mock Draft Database’s consensus rankings.
That alone is a major improvement, though. Skattebo didn’t appear to be on NFL radars until he started to catch fire this season, but checking in at No. 147 puts him in the conversation to be a mid-round pick. After seeing Bucky Irving go from a mid-round pick to a 1,000-yard rusher with the Buccaneers this season, Skattebo might just be satisfied with an opportunity.
Skattebo’s stock isn’t as high as his production largely because he doesn’t fit the NFL prototype for a bell-cow running back. He doesn’t have high-end speed and isn’t the most athletically gifted player, but he does thrive on strength and bounces off defenders when he’s not trucking them into the turf.
Skattebo might better fit the mold of a change-of-pace back in the NFL, similar to Mike Alstott, but he’s the kind of player who could stick around for a long time in the league even if he’s not an every-down player.

After no running back was selected until the No. 46 pick and only four were taken in the first three rounds in 2024, SN’s big board has nine running backs ranked within the top 90 overall prospects.
Ashton Jeanty unsurprisingly leads the way at No. 7 overall, followed by Ohio State‘s Quinshon Judkins, Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson, and North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton. Skattebo will have a hard time cracking the top of the list, but he’s forced himself onto NFL radars with the season he’s had.
Cam Skattebo mock draft projection: Will Arizona State RB get picked in 2025 NFL Draft? As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, one player who is generating buzz is Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo. Skattebo has been a standout performer for the Sun Devils, showcasing his speed, agility, and power on the field. Many draft experts believe that Skattebo has the potential to be a high draft pick in the upcoming draft.
In a recent mock draft projection, Skattebo is slated to be selected in the middle rounds of the draft. While he may not be a first-round pick, Skattebo’s skill set and production in college make him a valuable prospect for NFL teams in need of a dynamic running back.
Skattebo’s ability to break tackles, catch passes out of the backfield, and contribute on special teams could make him an attractive option for teams looking to add depth to their running back rotation. His versatility and work ethic have also earned him praise from coaches and scouts, further boosting his draft stock.
It remains to be seen where Skattebo will ultimately land in the 2025 NFL Draft, but one thing is for certain: his talent and potential make him a player to watch on draft day. Stay tuned to see where this exciting prospect ends up in the NFL.

Meet Pete Hegseth, the veteran culture warrior picked to lead the US military
Pete Hegseth is best known for his time at Fox News, but to dismiss the U.S. Army national guardsman as nothing more than a TV host would be misleading.
President-elect Donald Trump selected Hegseth to be the next secretary of defense, and while his confirmation in the Senate is far from guaranteed, given questions about his qualifications, he could be the leader behind Trump’s promised reforms of the Department of Defense. Hegseth was a major supporter of the former president during his first term, and they view the department similarly.
Hegseth, who has become a household name with about a decade in various on-air roles at Fox News, was born in Minnesota in 1980. He enlisted in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps in May 2001 while attending Princeton University. He was on Princeton’s basketball team but did not play much, and he led the Princeton Tory, a school magazine with a conservative viewpoint.
During his time leading the paper, he sought to instill “‘legitimate conservatism as a philosophy’ and ‘facilitate a campus discussion,’” he wrote at the close of his term, according to a recent article by Princeton Alumni Weekly. Hegseth graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in politics, and he later went on to receive a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University.
His first deployment was to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in 2004, and he was there for about a year. Hegseth returned home for a couple of months before he was deployed to Iraq, where he was for another year. During his year in Iraq, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal twice, a Bronze Star Medal, and several other awards.
Upon his return stateside, Hegseth worked briefly at the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research before moving on to lead the Vets For Freedom as the executive director. He also served as the CEO of another veteran advocacy group, the Koch-backed Concerned Veterans for America.
In 2010, Hegseth testified in Justice Elena Kagan’s, then-Supreme Court nominee, confirmation hearing in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He urged lawmakers not to confirm her over her treatment of military recruiters while she was the dean at Harvard years earlier, and he argued that her attempt to stop military recruiters from coming to the university had “unapologetically obstructed the military in a time of war.”
Hegseth deployed again in 2011, this time to Afghanistan, and he spent nearly a year there. He received another Bronze Star Medal, among a handful of other awards, during the roughly 10 months he spent in Afghanistan.
Shortly after returning home, Hegseth entered the Republican primary for the Minnesota senate race but withdrew before the primary. Republican Kurt Bills ended up losing the election to incumbent Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), who is still in Congress.
He joined Fox News as a contributor in 2014 and has been with the network since Trump tapped him as his nominee for the next secretary of defense. During his first term, Trump was a frequent viewer of Fox’s programs, while Hegseth was a big supporter on-air.
Hegseth went as far as to try to persuade the former president of military decisions, including pushing him to pardon some United States servicemen accused of war crimes. Trump ultimately did pardon the relevant service members.
Trump reportedly considered tapping Hegseth to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs during his first term but never made that decision.
Hegseth was accused of sexual assault in 2017, though he was never charged. The Monterey Police Department investigated “an alleged sexual assault” involving Hegseth that took place in the early hours of October 8, 2017, at the address of a Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa. Hegseth has described the encounter as consensual but also came to a settlement agreement in 2020 when his team heard the alleged victim was considering a lawsuit. He maintains the sexual encounter was consensual.
Hegseth has been married three times. He and his first wife, Meredith Schwarz, were married from 2004-2009, and he was married to his second wife, Samantha Deering, with whom he has three children, from 2010-2017. He cheated on Deering with Fox Executive Producer Jennifer Rauchet, and they had a daughter together. Hegseth and Rauchet have been married since 2019.
During the Biden administration, Hegseth has been a frequent critic of the president and the Pentagon, which put an added emphasis on diversity and inclusion efforts. Hegseth disagrees vehemently with the department’s emphasis on diversity efforts, and he will almost certainly restrict them if he gets confirmed by the Senate.
“The dumbest phrase on planet Earth in the military is our diversity is our strength,” Hegseth told Shawn Ryan in his podcast interview days before Trump picked him as his choice to lead the Pentagon.
He has drawn significant attention for two religious tattoos — the Jerusalem Cross and the “Deus Vult” motto, the latter of which prompted the National Guard to pull him from duty ahead of President Joe Biden‘s inauguration in early 2021, according to emails obtained by the Associated Press. Hegseth had said he believed the former tattoo, emblazoned on his chest, was the reason he was removed.

Unlike many of his predecessors, Hegseth does not have experience leading a large bureaucracy, and the DoD is one of the largest bureaucracies in the country. There are more than a million service members and approximately 3 million DoD employees. The department has a budget of about $850 billion, which is likely to continue increasing in the coming years.
Republicans in Congress have expressed an openness to Hegseth’s nomination despite his limited bureaucratic experience, while Democrats have shared concerns. He has met with several Republican senators since Trump nominated him. The GOP will have a narrow majority in the Senate once the next Congress begins.
Pete Hegseth, a veteran and prominent conservative commentator, has been chosen to lead the US military as the new Secretary of Defense. Hegseth, who served in the Army National Guard and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, has been a vocal advocate for military strength and a staunch critic of progressive policies. As a culture warrior, Hegseth has been a fierce defender of traditional American values and has argued for a more aggressive approach to national security. He has also been a strong supporter of veterans and their families, advocating for better healthcare and support services.
Hegseth’s appointment has been met with mixed reactions, with some praising his military experience and dedication to conservative principles, while others have raised concerns about his lack of experience in government and potential conflicts of interest.
As Hegseth takes on this new role, it will be interesting to see how he navigates the complex and challenging world of national defense. His leadership style and policy decisions will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the future of the US military and the country as a whole.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was successful enough that Disney reportedly “picked up the phone and wants more”
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has been (ahem) a pretty great play, but it’s also been a seemingly great success as rights holder Disney reportedly wants more Indy games in the future.
That comes courtesy of Windows Central journalist and leaker Jez Corden who said he’s “heard that Disney picked up the phone and wants more Indiana Jones” in an episode of the Xbox Two podcast – weeks after Machine Games and Bethesda launched their own first-person take on the iconic tomb raider’s adventures.
Just earlier this month, Lucasfilm Games vice president and general manager Douglas Reilly spoke about the possibility of more whip-cracking adaptations, too. While nothing’s officially in development, Reilly said the teams are “always looking for great stories… And the good news is, there’s a lot of space in between the films where we could tell more and more Indiana Jones stories that I think would be super interesting.”
We don’t have any official numbers for how well Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is doing now, but Circana’s Mat Piscatella revealed that it was the second best-selling game in its first full release week in North America, trailing only Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, despite being available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. Our Indiana Jones review, among others, was glowing with praise. And even after vowing that no one else could play the character, Harrison Ford even gave props to the game itself and Troy Baker’s “great” performance.
With critical acclaim, solid commercial success, Harrison Ford’s blessing, and seemingly Disney’s confidence behind them, the team at Machine Games could probably expand on its new unique brand of Nazi-bashing, puzzle-solving exploits well into the future. Although, I hope the studio also gets the chance to conclude their other anti-Nazi saga in Wolfenstein 3.

Exciting news for Indiana Jones fans! It has been reported that the recent installment in the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, was so successful that Disney has already expressed interest in creating more films in the series.According to sources, the studio was so impressed with the box office numbers and positive reception of the film that they “picked up the phone and wants more.” This is great news for fans of the adventurous archaeologist, as it means we may get to see more thrilling adventures with Indiana Jones in the future.
While details about potential sequels are still scarce, it’s safe to say that the success of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has reignited interest in the beloved franchise. Stay tuned for more updates on the future of Indiana Jones on the big screen!
