Oct 20, 2024; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA; Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens (14) and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson (3) celebrate after combining for a touchdown against the New York Jets during the second quarter at Acrisure Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images A huge turning point in the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day was an end zone interception thrown by quarterback Russell Wilson. But the fault for the interception is being thrown at the feet of wide receiver George Pickens, even by his quarterback.
Pickens was asked about what Wilson said and you could see Pickens was shocked at first and asked for clarification from the reporter multiple times if this came from Wilson or the reporter. Once it was made clear this was Wilson’s words, Pickens clammed up and stopped the interview.

George Pickens best prop bets for Steelers vs. Bengals on Saturday
Blake Krass discusses the best George Pickens prop bets to consider against the Bengals on Saturday of Week 18.
The Steelers are facing the Bengals in an AFC North divisional matchup on Saturday night of Week 18. Here are some George Pickens prop bets to consider at DraftKings Sportsbook.
Here are George Pickens’ current prop bet odds at DraftKings Sportsbook: o/u 4.5 receptions and o/u 65.5 receiving yards. Pickens is +115 to score a touchdown, +850 to score 2+ touchdowns and +850 to score the first touchdown of the game.
The Steelers and Bengals face off in an exciting AFC North matchup to end the regular season. The Ravens will take on the Browns in another AFC North battle before this game. If the Ravens somehow lose the game, the Steelers can clinch the division with a win over the Bengals. It is incredibly unlikely that the Ravens will lose to Cleveland, but even with a Ravens win, there is motivation for the Steelers to play hard on Saturday night.
The Bengals will be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss in this game, so Pittsburgh would love to eliminate their divisional rivals. Also, the Steelers secure the 5-seed with a win in this game. That means they get to travel to take on the struggling Texans in the Wildcard Round rather than the Bills or Ravens. That would dramatically increase the Steelers’ chances of winning a playoff game so they should battle hard for a win in this game regardless of the outcome of the Baltimore-Cleveland matchup.
The Bengals have had a vulnerable secondary all season. They rank 21st in defensive EPA/dropback and 22nd in defensive dropback success rate. They have given up ten 40+ yard catches this season, the fourth-most of any team in the NFL this season. George Pickens has the seventh-most explosive (20+ yard) catches in the NFL this season and should be able to attack that Cincinnati secondary.
Pickens was able to hit an explosive play the last time these two teams faced, recording a 36-yard reception. He also had a huge catch last week against the Chiefs in his return from injury. Pickens missed three games between that first matchup against the Bengals and last week’s game against the Chiefs. Pickens didn’t have his best game, but still recorded a 41-yard reception.
That makes eight straight games with a reception of 31 yards or longer for Pickens. That is why I am betting on him to go over his longest reception prop of 27.5 yards in this game. Pickens has exceeded this number in every game that Russell Wilson has started for the Steelers and he should do so again versus a vulnerable Bengals secondary.
Pick: George Pickens Longest Reception Over 27.5 Yards (-130)

Fittipaldo Thinks Tomlin Handling Pickens Differently Behind Closed Doors
The Pittsburgh Steelers are in a rut. In a few ways, they’re currently heading into the postseason with a myriad of ugly storylines. First, there’s the fact that they’ve lost three straight and their control over the AFC North. Both the offense and defense have had their issues as well. However, one notable storyline that’s presenting itself this week revolves around receiver George Pickens.
That type of thing is something we’ve heard a lot this year. Pickens is putting together another solid year and remains the lifeline of the Steelers offense. There are always the good things that Pickens does on the field. Likewise, the headlines he creates off of it are just as loud.
Most recently, Pickens is under-fire for not running a route during the Steelers’ Christmas Day loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, which ended up leading to a red zone interception. Things got more tense, and much more confusing, when Pickens abruptly ended his media time early this week after being asked about the play. It was a confusing situation overall, and admittedly wasn’t the best look for the star receiver.
However, moments like that in front of the media are the only things the world gets to see. There are things that happen, and conversations that happen behind closed doors that sometimes never come to light. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette’s Ray Fittipaldo thinks things are happening much differently in the building. He shared these thoughts on 93.7 The Fan on Friday.
“He [Mike Tomlin] doesn’t tell us the truth all the time,” Fittipaldo said of the situation regarding George Pickens. “And I think this is definitely a situation where he’s not telling us the truth…Are there communication issues? Yeah. But I think things are being handled behind closed doors in a much different way than they’re being handled before the media.”
It’s possible that Fittipaldo is right. Mike Tomlin’s made his legacy by being able to connect with his players on a level that most coaches can’t reach. He’s no stranger to star players who find themselves in the headlines. Coaching a player like Pickens isn’t anything new to Tomlin. It would be reasonable to assume Tomlin has handled all of this with Pickens and Wilson differently than the media has seen.
With that said, things do need to improve on Saturday night. A potential loss on Saturday, especially one full of frustration from Pickens only makes things more hectic with the media. This hasn’t been a peaceful season for Pickens, but he has a chance to end the regular season on a high note on Saturday.
In a recent interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Steelers beat writer Joe Rutter shared his thoughts on head coach Mike Tomlin’s handling of star wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. According to Rutter, Tomlin has been taking a different approach with Smith-Schuster behind closed doors.Rutter explained that Tomlin has been giving Smith-Schuster more one-on-one attention and working closely with him to address any issues or concerns. This personalized approach is in stark contrast to how Tomlin has handled other players in the past, leading many to speculate that Smith-Schuster’s status as a pending free agent may be a factor.
While Rutter did not go into specifics about what exactly Tomlin is doing differently with Smith-Schuster, he did suggest that the coach is taking a more hands-on approach in an effort to keep the talented receiver happy and motivated.
It remains to be seen how this behind-the-scenes approach will impact Smith-Schuster’s performance on the field, but one thing is for certain – Tomlin is pulling out all the stops to ensure that his star receiver is in top form for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

It seems that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens can’t stay out of the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Most recently it was what seemed to be some lazy route running against the Kansas City Chiefs that resulted in quarterback Russell Wilson throwing an interception in the end zone.
At this point, the only person not blaming Pickens for what happened is head coach Mike Tomlin. In Tomlin’s opinion, Pickens cutting off his route short had zero to do with what went wrong.
Literally everyone else, including Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger, saw it differently. Roethlisberger talked about it on his podcast and he didn’t hold back. According to Roethlisberger and literally every NFL analyst, Pickens running a lazy route allowed Chiefs safety Justin Reid to roll to the middle and make the pick in front of tight end Pat Freiermuth. If Pickens runs his go route hard, Reid has to shade to his side and Freiermuth probably catches an easy touchdown.
In a recent interview, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger didn’t hold back when discussing rookie wide receiver George Pickens. Roethlisberger praised Pickens’ work ethic, natural talent, and ability to make big plays on the field.“I’ve been really impressed with George Pickens since he joined the team,” Roethlisberger said. “He’s got a great attitude, he’s a hard worker, and he’s got some serious skills. I think he’s going to be a real playmaker for us this season.”
Roethlisberger also highlighted Pickens’ speed, route-running ability, and hands, saying that he sees a lot of potential in the young receiver. “I think George has a bright future ahead of him in this league,” Roethlisberger added.
It’s clear that Roethlisberger has high expectations for Pickens, and fans can’t wait to see the dynamic duo in action on the field this season. Stay tuned for more updates on the Steelers and their talented rookie receiver.
