  • 2025 NFL head coach tracker: Raiders hiring Pete Carroll to replace Antonio Pierce; Jaguars reel in Liam Coen

    carroll-5g.jpg
    Getty Images

When the NFL regular season comes to a close, it sends the head-coaching carousel into high gear. The 2025 cycle is in full swing and began with seven openings across the NFL

The cycle kicked off with the New England Patriots hiring Mike Vrabel after moving on from Jerod Mayo after one season, and the Bears landing Ben Johnson after getting rid of Matt Eberflus midseason. The Jets also got their guy in Aaron Glenn after moving on from Robert Saleh after Week 5. The Jacksonville Jaguars are hiring Tampa Bay Buccaneers OC Liam Coen to replace the fired Doug Pederson after letting go of general manager Trent Baalke

Most recently, the Las Vegas Raiders are hiring Pete Carroll, the former Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl champion head coach, after letting go of Antonio Pierce following one full season in charge.

As these teams tap their next leader, let this be your one-stop shop for that madness that is the NFL head-coaching carousel. Below, you can find our tracker of who is out and who is in across all openings.

Here’s a look at which jobs have been filled:

    NFL hirings and firings

    New England Patriots

    Jerod Mayo

    Mike Vrabel

Vrabel and the Patriots are quite familiar with one another, with the former linebacker winning three Super Bowls with the franchise. He was looked at as the favorite immediately after the firing of Mayo, so this result isn’t totally surprising. The former NFL Coach of the Year is expected to bring a buttoned-up operation to New England and has been regarded as one of the top in-game managers in the league dating back to his days as head coach of the Tennessee Titans

    Chicago Bears

    Matt Eberflus

    Ben Johnson

The Bears got their quarterback of the future when they selected Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s draft. Now, they have the man to steer the next few years of his career. Johnson made a name for himself by putting his players in position to succeed, and the Bears desperately need for him to do exactly that with Williams, who had an up-and-down rookie year.

Dallas Cowboys Mike McCarthy TBA Analysis to come.

    New York Jets

    Robert Saleh

    Aaron Glenn

The Jets are bringing back a former franchise star in Glenn, who has risen up the coaching ranks since his playing days ended. Glenn comes over from the Lions, where he led them from 26th in points per possession to eighth in one season, despite having six defensive starters on injured reserve. Glenn was drafted by the Jets in 1994 and made two of his three Pro Bowls with the team.

Jacksonville Jaguars Doug Pederson Liam Coen The Jaguars did what they needed to do to haul in their top remaining coaching candidate by firing Baalke. Coen coached Baker Mayfield into throwing a career-high 41 touchdown passes, tied for the second-most in the league this season, in his first year working with the journeyman quarterback. Tampa Bay also had a top-five scoring offense (29.5 points per game) in his sole season with the Bucs despite Mike Evans missing three games. Jacksonville hopes to see similar results between Coen and 2021 No. 1 overall draft pick Trevor Lawrence
Las Vegas Raiders Antonio Pierce Pete Carroll Las Vegas flipped from a first-time NFL head coach in Pierce to Carroll, who will be the league’s oldest head coach ever at the age of 74 in 2025. He did arrive in Seattle in 2010 and then guide them to their first Super Bowl title just four seasons later. Carroll’s presence could help stabilize a franchise that has been a volatile organization of late. Raiders minority owner Tom Brady helped hire one of the most known commodities available to kick start his Las Vegas tenure, one in which he’s just as fired up to win as he was in New England.
New Orleans Saints Dennis Allen TBA Analysis to come.

As the 2025 NFL season approaches, the coaching carousel is in full swing with teams making big moves to secure their next head coach. In a surprising turn of events, the Las Vegas Raiders have decided to part ways with Antonio Pierce and bring in veteran coach Pete Carroll to lead their team.

Carroll, who previously coached the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory, brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the Raiders organization. Known for his defensive prowess and ability to develop young talent, Carroll is expected to bring a new energy to the Raiders and help them compete in the tough AFC West division.

Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars have made a splash by hiring up-and-coming offensive mind Liam Coen as their new head coach. Coen, who most recently served as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, is known for his innovative play-calling and ability to develop young quarterbacks. With the Jaguars looking to turn around their struggling offense, Coen’s hiring is seen as a step in the right direction for the team.

As the coaching carousel continues to turn, all eyes will be on these two teams as they look to make their mark in the 2025 NFL season. Stay tuned for more updates as more coaching hires are announced.

  • 4 adults found dead inside Pierce County home during welfare check

4 adults found dead inside Pierce County home during welfare check

Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the deaths of four people near Puyallup.

Deputies found a man and woman dead after responding to a home on Eastwood Avenue East for a welfare check around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. When they got a warrant to search the rest of the home, they discovered two more adults dead, according to Dep. Carly Cappetto.

Hours after the police tape went up, Cappetto explained investigators believe there’s no additional threat to the public.

“We’re not looking for any suspects at this time. We don’t have anybody outstanding or any person of interest that we’re looking for, so we do feel the scene is contained to this home,” Cappetto told KOMO News.

It’s unclear how long the four bodies had been in the home. The PCSO was at the residence a few days earlier for what would have been the first welfare check, but the agency didn’t have enough information at the time to enter, Dep. Cappetto clarified.

This is expected to be an in-depth investigation involving forensics to piece together what led to the tragedy, as well as what injuries they may have sustained. The PCSO said it’s too soon to know whether this could be a homicide, and the agency has ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning as a possible cause of death.

“Our detectives are even trying to make sense of that. The fact we don’t even have genders or ages to reveal at this time puts an understanding of what they’re dealing with right now,” Dep. Cappetto added.

The agency expects crews would need to process the scene overnight.

With the sound of popping fireworks overhead and many people looking forward to 2025, Dep. Cappetto noted one stark reminder in light of what happened here.

“The holidays aren’t always a happy time for everybody and we should be checking on our loved ones and our family members and ensuring that everyone is safe,” she stated.

The PCSO did not say whether investigators recovered any weapons, or how the four people knew each other.

In a tragic and devastating discovery, four adults were found dead inside a home in Pierce County during a welfare check on Friday. The bodies were discovered in the residence located on [insert address] after concerns were raised about the well-being of the individuals living there.

Authorities have not released the identities of the deceased individuals or any details about the cause of death. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the incident and has not ruled out foul play.

Neighbors and community members are shocked and saddened by the news, as the tight-knit community grapples with the loss of four lives. The Sheriff’s Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time. We hope that the authorities are able to provide answers and bring closure to this tragic event.

As we head into Week 17 of the NFL season, fantasy football owners are looking for any edge they can get to secure a win and make a push for the playoffs. One player who could be a difference-maker this week is Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Alec Pierce.

Pierce has been a solid contributor for the Bengals this season, and he has shown flashes of his potential as a big-play threat. In Week 17, he will be facing off against the New York Giants, who have struggled against opposing wide receivers all season.

Projections vs. Giants:

In Week 17, Alec Pierce is projected to have a solid outing against the Giants. With the Giants secondary giving up an average of over 250 passing yards per game, there should be plenty of opportunities for Pierce to make an impact in the passing game.

  • Raiders fans think owner Mark Davis will fire coach Antonio Pierce

Raiders fans think owner Mark Davis will fire coach Antonio Pierce

A big question is will Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis fire head coach Antonio Pierce as head coach after just one season as the team’s full-time coach.

We recently asked our readers if they think Davis will let go of Pierce and, the overwhelming response was yes.

In a poll with 979 votes cast, 665 voters (68 percent) said they believe Pierce will be fired, while 314 voters (32 percent) think Davis will give Pierce another chance.

A few weeks ago, Davis was asked to address his thoughts on the status of Pierce.

Davis said the coach will be evaluated at the end of the season and he clearly didn’t want to address the subject with four games remaining in a disappointing season.

“I’m very disappointed, obviously,” Davis told reporters, via The Athletic. “I want to see progress … There’s no excuses … You have to go through the season and then we’ll re-evaluate. Right now, I’m not in that position of evaluating anything right forward.”

Perhaps that was a hint of things to come. It’s clear many fans think that’s exactly what it is and Pierce is in trouble.

The Oakland Raiders have had a tumultuous season so far, and many fans are starting to speculate that head coach Antonio Pierce may be on the chopping block.

Rumors have been swirling that owner Mark Davis is not pleased with the team’s performance and may be considering making a coaching change. Some fans believe that Pierce’s lackluster record and inconsistent playcalling are to blame for the Raiders’ struggles this season.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, the chatter among Raiders fans is growing louder by the day. Many are calling for Davis to take action and bring in a new head coach who can turn the team’s fortunes around.

Only time will tell if these rumors hold any truth, but one thing is for certain: the pressure is on for Antonio Pierce to deliver results and keep his job secure. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
