We’ve got another exciting American Athletic matchup on schedule as the East Carolina Pirates and the Temple Owls are set to tip at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday at Liacouras Center. The Pirates are strutting in with some offensive muscle as they’ve averaged 75.4 points per game this season.
Temple is hoping to do what South Florida couldn’t on Saturday: put an end to East Carolina’s winning streak, which now stands at three games. East Carolina came out on top against South Florida by a score of 64-55. That’s two games straight that the Pirates have won by exactly nine points.
East Carolina’s success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trevion LaBeaux led the charge by posting eight points along with eight rebounds. The dominant performance also gave LaBeaux a new career-high in offensive rebounds (five). Another player making a difference was Jordan Riley, who went 5 for 8 en route to 12 points plus six rebounds and two steals.
East Carolina smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. The team’s really been improving in that area: they’ve now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but Temple ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted by Charlotte 90-89 thanks to a clutch free throw from Jamal Mashburn Jr. with but a second left in the fourth quarter. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Mashburn Jr. was the offensive standout of the matchup as he had 34 points in addition to six rebounds. Steve Settle III was another key player, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
East Carolina’s victory bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Temple, their win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: East Carolina has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 39 rebounds per game. However, it’s not like Temple struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging 37.7. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we’ll see if one team can grab an edge.
East Carolina barely slipped by Temple in their previous meeting back in January, winning 80-79. The rematch might be a little tougher for East Carolina since the team won’t have the home-court advantage this time around. We’ll see if the change in venue makes a difference.

Temple is a slight 2.5-point favorite against East Carolina, according to the latest college basketball odds.
The oddsmakers were right in line with the betting community on this one, as the game opened as a 2.5-point spread, and stayed right there.

Orlando Bloom has reflected on Keira Knightley’s comments about Pirates of the Caribbean.
The actor played Knightley’s love interest Will Turner in three of the swashbuckling adventure films from 2003 to 2007, with the pair returning as a cameo in 2017 sequel Dead Men Tell No Tales.
While the franchise made global stars of both Bloom and Knightley, the British actor said in a recent interview that it wasn’t all fun and games starring in the films as she felt the franchise was simultaneously “making and breaking” her.
“I was seen as s*** because of them, and yet because they did so well I was given the opportunity to do the films that I ended up getting Oscar nominations for,” the star of Pride and Prejudice and Atonement told The Times.
Bloom has now spoken out about Knightley’s musings on her experience, telling Entertainment Weekly: “I definitely understand where Keira was coming from, and she does wonderful things [in the films].
The actor said that he has “a lot of positive takeaways” from his time starring in the blockbusters.
He continued: “It was such a huge moment in time that is almost like … it feels almost like another lifetime now. But it certainly was unique and, you know, I’m always grateful.”
Elaborating on her time starring in the Pirates franchise, Knightley said: “They were the most successful films I’ll ever be a part of and they were the reason that I was taken down publicly.
“So they’re a very confused place in my head.”

The producing maestro, whose Top Gun: Maverick had huge box office success in 2022, told ComicBook.com: “With Top Gun, you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant [Tom Cruise]. But we’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”
The possibility of Depp returning to the Pirates franchise was the subject of testimony during his defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard.
Depp was asked by Heard’s lawyer: “If Disney came to you with $300m dollars and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film?”
“That is true,” Depp answered.

The actor, who is setting sail with Drew Barrymore as part of MSC Cruises’ upcoming Super Bowl ad, tells Entertainment Weekly over Zoom that, despite his own positive experience, he can sympathize with Knightley and her conflicted feelings toward their seafaring franchise.

Bloom starred as Will Turner, an altruistic blacksmith who finds himself unexpectedly charting a brand new course for adventure after his love interest Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) is kidnapped by pirates in the original 2003 film. The couple’s romance, as well as Will’s secret pirate heritage, was further explored in the franchise’s subsequent swashbuckling sequels Dead Man’s Chest, At World’s End, and Dead Men Tell No Tales.
In a November interview with The Times, Knightley described the films as an experience that both made her career and broke her spirit simultaneously. “I was seen as s— because of [the Pirates films], and yet because they did so well, I was given the opportunity to do the films that I ended up getting Oscar nominations for,” she recalled. “They were the most successful films I’ll ever be a part of, and they were the reason that I was taken down publicly. The franchise is also far from dead in the water — despite its fifth installment being released in 2017. Speaking with EW in May, longtime producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that there are currently two separate films in the Pirates pipeline: a reboot written by Young Woman and the Sea scribe Jeff Nathanson, and another Margot Robbie-led project penned by Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson.
Bloom is aware of Bruckheimer’s reboot. “I’ve heard he’s pretty excited about it,” he says of the producer. “It’ll be interesting to see. Jerry always brings out the big guns, as it were – pardon the pun. Cannons, I should say.”
He’s also not fully shutting Davy Jones’ locker on the idea of a potential Pirates return, either. “Listen, it was a wild and fun experience so, you know, never say never,” Bloom says. “I have a lot of respect for that experience, and Jerry, and the whole thing. But who knows? I mean, it’s sort of one of those things I really haven’t thought about it, really.”
He adds, “I’m happy that I got to be a part of something that feels like it’s standing the test of time, which is cool.”
In the meantime, Bloom is trading in the Flying Dutchman and the Black Pearl for MSC Cruises’ luxurious new flagship, MSC World America, as part of the company’s new Super Bowl campaign. In a teaser clip, the actor can be seen getting serenaded by Barrymore, who attempts to dazzle him with her rendition of Madonna’s “Holiday.”
Bloom reveals the pair hit it off straight away, and that he was especially charmed by how Barrymore, who began acting at only 11 months old, made an effort to connect with all of the kids on set, too. “She probably grew up like going, ‘This is boring. I’m on set,’ and knew what it was like,” he says. “So she was great. Really appreciate working with her. She’s wonderful.”
Bloom explains that his dry British wit and Barrymore’s humor will take center stage in the ad. “It’s a really fun little spot. It’s charming, and the banter is really pretty sweet and clever, and it emphasizes part of what I think MCS World America offers, which is a bit of like the American flair and the European style.”

The yearly series that lets you step onto the diamond as a player on your favorite baseball team announced its cover athletes on Monday; this is the first time in the series’ existence that more than one athlete will be on the same cover.

Skenes joins Cincinnati Reds Shortstop Elly De La Cruz and Baltimore Orioles Third-Baseman Gunnar Henderson on the cover. This is the first time since 2013 that any of these teams have made the cover in the U.S. when Pirates star Andrew McCutchen made the cut decked out in the Black and Gold. Former Pirate Jung-ho Kang also made the cover in 2016 for the game’s release in South Korea.
Early Access for MLB: The Show 25 opens up on March 14 with the full game set to release on March 18, just two weeks prior to the Pirates’ Opening Day game on April 4 against the New York Yankees.

PITTSBURGH — Adam Frazier is heading back to the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to multiple reports.
The club has agreed to terms with the veteran second baseman/outfielder on a one-year deal worth $1.525 million, per the reports. The deal is pending Frazier passing a physical.
The 33-year-old Frazier spent the first five-plus seasons of his career with the Pirates from 2016-21. He hit .283 with 39 homers and 204 RBIs in 608 games with Pittsburgh. Frazier made the All-Star Game in 2021 before being traded to the San Diego Padres.
Frazier has bounced around recently, playing for the Seattle Mariners in 2022, Baltimore Orioles in 2023 and Kansas City Royals last season. Frazier hit .202 in 104 games with the Royals in 2024.
The deal gives the Pirates a versatile option who can play a corner outfield spot or second. Pittsburgh could have an immediate opening in right field after opting not to retain Bryan De La Cruz.

Adam Frazier Pirates contract: 1 year, $1.525 million
The Pirates are reuniting with a former All-Star of theirs, Adam Frazier, on a one-year Major League deal worth $1.525 million, sources told MLB.com on Tuesday. The club has not yet confirmed the signing.
Frazier, a nine-year Major League veteran, spent the first six seasons of his career with the Pirates from 2016-2021. While he was a league-average hitter for the first five seasons of his career, he enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2021, when he was voted as the National League All-Star team’s starting second baseman. The Pirates – firmly in their rebuild by that point – traded him to the Padres for a package of players that included Jack Suwinski at the Trade Deadline.
Frazier has had mixed results since leaving Pittsburgh, though. After down years with the Padres and Mariners in 2021 and 2022, he found some success with the Orioles in 2023, posting a .696 OPS and 1.7 WAR (according to Baseball Reference) in 141 games played. He spent last season with the Royals and transitioned to more of a role player, slashing .202/.282/.294 with four home runs and 22 RBIs over 294 plate appearances.

9:52am: Adam Frazier is headed back to the Pirates on a one-year, Major League contract, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The McKinnis Sports client will rejoin the organization that drafted him in 2013 and the team for which he made the lone All-Star appearance of his career back in 2021.
Frazier, now 33 years old, had a strong six-year run with the Buccos to begin his career, slashing a combined .283/.346/.420 in 2232 plate appearances while posting quality overall defensive grades at both second base and in left field. That stretch culminated with a huge .324/.388/.448 slash in the first half of the ’21 season, with Frazier logging a career-low 10.7% strikeout rate along the way. That resulted in an All-Star nod for Frazier and helped ramp up trade interest while the Pirates operated as deadline sellers. The Padres wound up acquiring Frazier in exchange for outfielder Jack Suwinski, utilityman Tucupita Marcano and righty Michell Miliano.
Things didn’t pan out for Frazier in San Diego, however, and he’s never gotten his bat back on track. While he hit for a decent average down the stretch with the Friars, his walk rate and already limited power output tumbled. In 211 plate appearances, he batted .267/.327/.335 — about 13% worse than league-average, by measure of wRC+. Rather than pay him a raise in arbitration that winter, the Padres traded him to the Mariners, where his offensive struggles continued.
In three and a half seasons since leaving the Pirates, Frazier has suited up for the Padres, Mariners, Orioles and Royals. That covers a span of 1562 plate appearances, during which Frazier sports a tepid .236/.301/.336 batting line (82 wRC+). His 2024 season in Kansas City was the worst of his career; he batted only .202/.282/.294 in 294 plate appearances with the Royals last year and fanned in a career-worst 20.1% of his plate appearances.
Though his offense has continued to flounder, Frazier posted solid defensive grades at second base and in the outfield corners last year. His strikeout rate may have been a career-high but was still a couple percentage points lower than league-average, while his 7.5% walk rate was within one percentage point of average. The Pirates have not only a righty-heavy bench mix but more broadly a roster and lineup that skews right-handed. Oneil Cruz, Spencer Horwitz and switch-hitting Bryan Reynolds are the only lefty bats assured of frequent playing time in Pittsburgh. Frazier will give the Pirates a familiar face and a contact-oriented left-handed bat to slot into the bench group.
With Pittsburgh still facing uncertainty at both second base and in right field, Frazier is a cheap backup plan at either spot. He’s not going to be Plan A for the Pirates at either position, but he can step in at second base if a group of infielders including Nick Yorke, Nick Gonzales, Jared Triolo and Liover Peguero struggle and force versatile Isiah Kiner-Falefa into regular work at shortstop. Reynolds is locked into one outfield corner, but the other options on the 40-man roster right now include Suwinski (who struggled immensely in 2024), Billy Cook and out-of-options Joshua Palacios.
