Fantasy Basketball: Why it’s time to scoop up Scoot Henderson | The Playlist

Yahoo Sports fantasy analyst Dan Titus discusses why the Portland Trail Blazers point guard is a waiver wire target, Week 10 streaming advice, and the impact of the D’Angelo Russell – Dorian Finney-Smith trade.

    Video Transcript

    Week 10 in fantasy basketball.

    Welcome back to the playlist.

We had fights, we had trades.

It’s been a crazy week in fantasy basketball, but first and foremost wanna wish everyone a happy holiday and an early happy new year as well.

    Let’s get to my pickups.

First pickup’s gotta be Spencer Dinwoodie.

Lucadontis is set to miss at least a month with a calf injury, and Spencer Dinwoodie’s filled in.

Great for Lucadontis in the interim.

He’s averaging over 17 points, 4 boards, and 6 dimes in relief of.

    Luke Adonche.

So at under 40% roster, you need to add him in all leagues.

Next, you gotta pick up Scottie Pippen Jr. John Morant is day to day with a shoulder injury, and Scottie Pippen Jr. has been one of the best backups in fantasy basketball this year, averaging 15 points, 5 boards, and 6 dimes without John Morant on the court.

This guy is a two-way player, can get you a lot of steals as well.

Make sure you don’t sleep on him.

And then lastly, at under 30% roster gotta add Scoot Henderson.

I know he’s inefficient, prefer him in points lead.

But right now over the last 7 days, Scoot Henderson has been a top 50 player.

    He’s averaging 17 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 dimes.

More importantly, he’s getting stocks and he’s hitting 3s.

Both rarities for Scoot Henderson, so make sure you pick him up while he’s still hot.

Let’s get to the schedule things you need to know.

Alright, let’s talk some strategy and how you’re gonna manage your week.

Week 10 is very good for streaming purposes.

You can actually stream on every day because we don’t have any day or any slate that exceeds 9.

Games, which has been pretty rare over the last couple of weeks and we have games every day of the week.

So if we’re looking at the schedule, I’m liking the teams that are playing 4 games.

That’s the 76ers, the Nuggets, the Lakers, and the Knicks.

Early in the week, try to snag guys like Peyton Watson because Aaron Gordon’s gonna be missing at least the next couple of games, as well as Derrick Jones Jr, a guy that’s gonna be playing 3 games in 4 nights, which is a huge advantage for you in fantasy.

He knows he’s gonna get some rebounds.

He’s also gonna get some stock.

And some 3s while we wait for Kawhi Leonard to return, this is gonna be a good pickup for fantasy managers.

And later in the week, take a look at Dalton Kne.

Now that there’s gonna be some movement on the Lakers, he’s been playing very well.

He could be that primary option off the bench with D’Angelo Russell now back on the Brooklyn Nets.

And look at Lugen Dor as well, because even though he hasn’t been playing particularly well coming off of that ankle injury, the Thunder do have 3 games in 4 nights to close out from Thursday to Sunday.

So If you can get a little scheduling advantage by rostering those guys and all those teams play 4 games in week 10.

Teams you’ll want to avoid Phoenix Suns, the only team that plays 2 games in week 10.

But the good thing about the Suns is that if you’re looking to head to week 11, they actually are the only team that plays 5 games in week 11.

So you’ll want to pay attention to that if you have any extra transactions left over from week 10, maybe you wanna pick up Royce O’Neal, Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, they’ve been in and out of the line.

    Line up with respective injuries.

So Royce O’Neal, regardless of the situation, has been a guy that’s been pretty valuable in 12 team leagues, points or 9 categories.

So if he’s on waivers because of his recent injury, make sure you pick him up at the end of the week if you have the roster space available.

All right, let’s get to what I alluded to before, trade season.

All right, let’s talk about the trade that went down on Sunday.

D’Angelo Russell, along with Maxwell Lewis in 3 2nd round picks, went to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Dorian Finney Smith.

    And Shake Milton.

I think this is a better real life move than it is for fantasy.

I think that D’Angelo Russell right now is the biggest beneficiary of this trade because he goes from a bench role in the Lakers to a starting spot with the Brooklyn Nets, an organization he has a lot of familiarity with.

He was an all-star there at one point, so him stepping into a starting role, I think we could see an uptick in his usage as well as his playmaking.

    Now Cam Johnson is also.

On the trade block, so who knows what other moves the Brooklyn Nets are planning to make, but it looks like a really good situation for D’Angelo Russell to kind of regain his fantasy stock.

I’m not worried about Cam Thomas.

I think he’s still pretty secure with his fantasy value.

Keep an eye on where the minutes go for Dorian Finney Smith.

This is a guy that was a starting forward for the Brooklyn Nets, so let’s see who kind of emerges there.

It could be Noah Clowney, but keep an eye on it.

    On the Lakers side.

Um, I’m definitely curious about how this rotation is gonna work.

Roy Hatchamura was the starting power forward, knowing how much JJ Redick really likes Dorian Finney Smith and what he brings from a versatility perspective on the defensive end, he can also shoot over 40% from 3. this is a guy that really helps this perimeter defense for the Lakers, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Dorian Finney Smith eats into Roy Hatchamura’s opportunity size a little bit here, but then also.

So take a look at Dalton Connect because I think now with D’Angelo Russell gone, there could be an opportunity for Dalton Connect to really thrive as the primary option off the bench.

So some things to look at there.

I think there’s definitely more value in D’Angelo Russell going to Brooklyn than there is during Finney Smith and Shake Milton trying to succeed from a fancy perspective in LA, but it’s a good trade for both sides.

That’ll do it for the week 10 playlist.

    I’ll see y’all in week 11.

    Peace.

Fantasy Basketball: Why it’s time to scoop up Scoot Henderson

If you’re looking to gain an edge in your fantasy basketball league, look no further than Scoot Henderson. The 6’3″ guard out of Kell High School in Marietta, Georgia has been turning heads with his impressive play on the court.

Henderson is a dynamic scorer with the ability to create his own shot and get to the rim with ease. He has a smooth shooting stroke and can knock down shots from beyond the arc as well. In addition to his scoring prowess, Henderson is also a tenacious defender who can disrupt passing lanes and create turnovers.

With his well-rounded skill set and high basketball IQ, Henderson has the potential to be a valuable asset in fantasy basketball leagues. He’s currently flying under the radar, but it won’t be long before he becomes a household name in the basketball world.

So, if you’re looking to add a rising star to your fantasy basketball roster, now is the time to scoop up Scoot Henderson. Keep an eye on him as he continues to make waves in the basketball world.

    Week 9 Wrap Up

    Top Players in Week 9

“Classic Man” – Jidenna feat. Roman GianArthur

Who’s in My Rotation: Waiver Pickups

Players who should be rostered in all leagues under 50%:

De’Andre Hunter, Gradey Dick, Rui Hachimura, Alex Sarr, Yves Missi, Malcolm Brogdon, Malik Beasley and Andrew Nembhard.

Players to be added this week under 40% rostered:

One of the most valuable backups in fantasy basketball should be added to all leagues again, with Ja Morant day-to-day with a shoulder injury. With Morant off the floor, Pippen Jr. is averaging 15 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.7 stocks and 34 fantasy points per game this season. He’s also been efficient as a starter, shooting 53% from the field and 40% from 3.

With Dončić out for at least a month, Dinwiddie rejoins the Mavs starting unit. He’s been a proven streaming option when seeing an increased workload, averaging 17 points, 4.7 boards and 5.7 dimes as a starter this season. For those in 9-cat leagues, his FG% might be a slight hindrance, but the counting stats are worth the slight dip in that area. Quentin Grimes (19%) is the next best option if Dinwiddie is unavailable. Grimes also gets a boost because Naji Marshall was suspended for four games for his scuffle with Jusuf Nurkić.

It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the second-year pro, but he’s in a nice groove over the past week. He’s averaging 17/3/6 with almost 3 steals per game in his last three contests and while I’ll always prefer Henderson in points leagues over 9-cat, he’s been effective in both formats — ranking 39th in 9-cat and 51st in points leagues. The stock numbers and efficient shooting are rarities for Scoot, so fantasy managers should ride the wave while he’s hot.

    Early-to-mid week, Monday-Thursday:

DJJ some short-term stream appeal with the Clippers playing a Monday-Tuesday back-to-back against the Pelicans and Spurs. The Clippers also play on a six-game slate on Thursday versus the Thunder. That’s three games with one transaction before Kawhi Leonard’s potential return on Saturday. Jones Jr. will be an asset for fantasy managers needing steals, points and 3s. Kris Dunn (10%) is a deep league option if DJJ was scooped up.

The Nuggets face the Jazz on Monday and the Hawks on Wednesday, which is a good opportunity for Watson. Aaron Gordon (calf) will miss at least two more games. Watson’s scoring has been hit-or-miss lately, but he’s been a steady contributor for stocks in 9-cat leagues.

The Sixers have a nice schedule in Week 10, starting with the Trail Blazers on Monday and a back-to-back against the Warriors and Kings on Wednesday and Thursday. Joel Embiid and Paul George will likely sit one of those games, so Oubre is another player for whom one transaction can cover multiple games. His scoring has slowed with everyone healthy, but he’s still getting enough counting stats to be added in 12-team points and 9-cat leagues.

    Mid-to-late week, Thursday- Sunday:

The Lakers play three games in four nights from Thursday to Sunday, with matchups against the Blazers, Hawks and Rockets. With Russell gone, Knecht could move into the top option off the bench. He’s played well in his last two outings, averaging 15 points, five boards and 1.5 3s in 29 minutes of action.

Dort will be an option in 12-team leagues because one transaction can get three games in the backend of the week. The Thunder have tough sledding against the Clippers, Knicks and Celtics, but Dort is always a threat to generate steals and has been a top-100 player for the season.

The Magic play three games against the Pistons, Raptors and Jazz on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday this week. Caldwell-Pope is a better option for 9-cat leagues, but he’ll be worth streaming as the Magic are missing several key players. Caldwell-Pope has been a good source of 3s and stocks over the past two weeks. We could see an uptick in scoring with Jalen Suggs leaving Sunday’s game with a wrist injury.

     “Cheers”- Anderson Paak feat. Q-Tip

    Schedule Highlights

Week 10 is a favorable week to stream from waivers, with no slate exceeding nine games. Set your lineups early on New Year’s Eve (December 31), as games will start as early as 3 PM ET.

Here’s the list of the total number of games played this week:

    • Daily schedule: Monday (7), Tuesday (6), Wednesday (8), Thursday (6), Friday (9), Saturday (9) and Sunday (6)

A team I’d avoid streaming players from is the Phoenix Suns. They only play two games on Tuesday and Saturday. Looking ahead to Week 11, if you happen to have transactions left at the end of Week 10, pick up players like Royce O’Neale because the Suns are the only team to play five games next week.

Here’s the rest of the team’s number of games played:

    • 13 teams play four games: 4 Games: 76ers, Cavaliers, Celtics, Clippers, Jazz, Kings, Knicks, Lakers, Nuggets, Pelicans, Thunder, Warriors and Wizards

    • 16 teams play three games: Bulls, Grizzlies, Hawks, Heat, Hornets, Magic, Mavericks, Nets, Pacers, Pistons, Raptors, Rockets, Spurs, Timberwolves and Trail Blazers

    • 1 team plays two games: Suns

The back-to-back schedule can be found below:

    • Monday/Tuesday: Cavs and Clippers

    • Tuesday/Wednesday: Raptors

    • Wednesday/Thursday: 76ers, Heat and Nets

    • Thursday/Friday: Celtics, Lakers and Thunder

    • Friday/Saturday: Grizzlies, Hawks, Knicks, Nuggets, Pistons and Spurs

    • Saturday/Sunday: Jazz and Warriors

    Injury Status

Latest injury reporting for all NBA teams

NBA Injury Report – Monday, December 30

“Blessings” – Big Sean feat. Drake

    Rotation Notes

    • Brooklyn Nets: The Nets don’t play until Wednesday, leaving three days for D’Lo to return to his former team. Keon Johnson (13%) was a popular streaming option in Week 9, but that could be short-lived after this trade and Cam Thomas’ return on Sunday. Watch for Noah Clowney (17%) as one of the options to take over Finney-Smith’s minutes.

    • Charlotte Hornets: Vasilije Micić’s (6%) stock is up for Monday, as the Hornets are missing two of their best players, LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller. It’s likely a one-game stream, though, as the Hornets have three days off before playing again on Friday against the Pistons.

    • Golden State Warriors: At 65% rostered, Trayce Jackson-Davis has played exceptionally well for fantasy managers since the Warriors acquired Dennis Schröder. Over his last five games, the big man has averaged 14 points, 9 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals, with a high FG%. Add him to leagues of 10 or fewer teams.

    • New Orleans Pelicans: Zion Williamson is doing light contact drills at practice, which is good news for fantasy managers who have had him on the shelf since November 6. He’s still without a timetable, but a return looks imminent.

    • Orlando Magic: The official NBA injury report lists Paolo Banchero as “return to competition, reconditioning,” so he’s likely nearing a return to the lineup. If a Banchero manager is struggling in the standings, get those trade offers in before he returns.

    • Washington Wizards: Justin Champagnie (21%) is an interesting play because while he’s coming off a career-high 31 points on Saturday, Kuzma returning to the lineup likely dampens his streaming potential.

“Ball Drop” – Fabolous feat. French Montana

Looking to improve your fantasy basketball team for Week 10? Look no further than The Playlist for waiver wire pickups and start/sit advice to help you dominate your league.

    Waiver Wire Pickups:

    1. Tyrese Haliburton, PG/SG, Sacramento Kings – Haliburton has been putting up solid numbers across the board and should be owned in all formats.

    2. Kevin Huerter, SG/SF, Atlanta Hawks – Huerter has been playing well with increased minutes and is worth adding if you need three-point shooting.

    3. Wendell Carter Jr., C, Orlando Magic – Carter has been playing well since being traded to the Magic and is a solid option at the center position.

    4. Jalen Brunson, PG/SG, Dallas Mavericks – Brunson has been a consistent contributor off the bench and is worth adding in deeper leagues.

    Start/Sit Advice:

    Start:
    – Julius Randle, PF/C, New York Knicks – Randle has been on a tear lately and should be started with confidence.
    – Dejounte Murray, PG, San Antonio Spurs – Murray has been putting up solid numbers and is a must-start option.
    – Keldon Johnson, SG/SF, San Antonio Spurs – Johnson has been playing well and is a solid option at the forward position.

    Sit:
    – Marvin Bagley III, PF/C, Sacramento Kings – Bagley has been inconsistent and is worth sitting until he proves otherwise.
    – Cam Reddish, SG/SF, Atlanta Hawks – Reddish has been struggling with injuries and is a risky start at the moment.
    – Jusuf Nurkic, C, Portland Trail Blazers – Nurkic has been underwhelming this season and is worth sitting until he turns things around.

Make sure to check your lineup and make any necessary adjustments before the Week 10 games begin. Good luck!
