Tony Pollard injury update: Latest news on Titans RB’s Week 17 status

The Tennessee Titans are once again in danger of not having their best playmaker on offense for the Week 17 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, as running back Tony Pollard is questionable to play.

Pollard was on the injury report with an ankle issue once again this week, and he did not practice at all, either. However, as we’ve seen on multiple occasions this year, Pollard can play with little to no practice all week.

But a new issue has popped up for Pollard that has put his Week 17 status in serious doubt. Here’s the latest on the Titans running back’s chances of playing against Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon.

    Tony Pollard injury update

UPDATE: The Titans have announced that Pollard has officially been ruled out for the Week 17 contest, which will leave Tyjae Spears as the lead back on Sunday.

    END OF UPDATE

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Pollard is now battling the flu, which puts his status in doubt for Sunday. Fowler adds that Pollard was expected to play through the ankle issue, but the flu has cast doubt on his ability to suit up.

“Titans RB Tony Pollard has the flu, jeopardizing his status for Sunday at Jacksonville, per source,” Fowler reported. “He is not expected to travel with the team today. He was on the injury report with an ankle issue but had planned to play through that.”

Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky offered a different perspective on Pollard, with his report stating that the Titans were going to shut the running back down because of his ankle injury, so it looks like he might not have played, anyway.

“Titans actually shut down Tony Pollard for looming ankle issue he’d been pushing through. Flu popped up today on top of it,” Kuharsky wrote.

Fellow Titans beat writer, AtoZ Sports’ Easton Freeze, echoed Kuharsky’s report on Pollard being shut down for this week, regardless of the flu.

“Pollard wasn’t going to go this week because of his ankle injury anyways,” Freeze reported. “The Flu isn’t the thing keeping him from playing, just an added part of it. He’s been fighting through a really painful ankle injury for weeks now.

“His status in Week 18 is in question, though if he can grit it out to reach the incentives he’s near, I’d imagine he will.”

    Who is Tony Pollard’s handcuff?

At this point, fantasy football managers should be making other plans, and one of those plans could be backup running back Tyjae Spears, who will handle the bulk of the work out of the backfield if Pollard sits.

Spears posted 10 carries for 27 yards and scored two touchdowns while also adding three receptions for 39 yards last week when Pollard was limited to 10 touches. He is absolutely a viable flex play in a soft matchup against the Jags.

As the regular season comes to a close, the Dallas Cowboys are facing a potential setback with running back Tony Pollard. Pollard suffered an injury in Week 16 and his status for Week 17 against the Tennessee Titans is up in the air.

The latest news on Pollard’s injury is that he is dealing with a hamstring issue, which can be a tricky injury for running backs to navigate. The team is taking a cautious approach with Pollard, as they want to ensure he is fully healthy before putting him back on the field.

Head coach Mike McCarthy has stated that Pollard’s availability for Week 17 will be a game-time decision, depending on how he progresses throughout the week in practice. Pollard’s absence would be a significant blow to the Cowboys’ running game, as he has been a key contributor alongside star running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Fans will have to wait and see how Pollard’s injury progresses leading up to Sunday’s game. In the meantime, the team is preparing to potentially be without him and adjusting their game plan accordingly.

Stay tuned for further updates on Tony Pollard’s status for Week 17 as the Cowboys look to secure a playoff spot in their matchup against the Titans.

  • Tony Pollard out, Luke Gifford returns

Tony Pollard out, Luke Gifford returns

The Tennessee Titans were back on the practice field Thursday, ramping up preparations for their Week 17 tussle with the Jacksonville Jaguars and watching numerous players sit out due to injury.

The Titans are definitely thin at inside linebacker after placing Kenneth Murray on injured reserve and subsequently releasing recently acquired David Long Jr. after he failed his physical. They did receive some good news at the position as Luke Gifford practiced fully as he navigates the concussion protocol and might return.

Running back Tony Pollard headlined the group that was held out due to injury. In all, six starters missed practice on Thursday, all of whom are battling nagging injuries and have been listed in previous weeks.

Wide receiver Bryce Oliver was added to the injury report with a knee injury and was limited on Thursday.

The Titans’ complete injury report for Thursday can be found below.

Did not participate: WR Tyler Boyd (foot), K Nick Folk (abdomen), RB Tony Pollard (ankle), LB Otis Reese (ankle), S Amani Hooker (shoulder), OG Dillon Radunz (shoulder),

Limited participant: WR Colten Dowell (knee), WR Bryce Oliver (knee)

    Full participant: Luke Gifford (concussion)

Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard has been ruled out for this week’s game due to injury, but linebacker Luke Gifford is set to make his return to the lineup.

Pollard, who has been dealing with a foot injury, will be sidelined for the upcoming game, leaving a void in the Cowboys’ backfield. However, Gifford’s return provides a boost to the defense, as he brings a physical presence and playmaking ability to the linebacker position.

While Pollard’s absence will be felt, the Cowboys can rely on their depth at the running back position to fill the void. Meanwhile, Gifford’s return adds another playmaker to a defense that has been solid all season.

Fans will be eager to see how Gifford performs in his return and how the Cowboys adjust in Pollard’s absence. Stay tuned for updates on both players as the game approaches.

Tony Pollard Week 17 Outlook for Fantasy Football (2024)

22 seconds agoTennessee Titans running back Tony Pollard (ankle) was unable to practice all week but is listed as questionable to play on Sunday in Week 17 against the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars. Pollard also did not practice all of last week before drawing a questionable tag. He eventually was active in the Week 16 loss to the division-rival Indianapolis Colts and played a season-low 39% of the offensive snaps while seeing only 11 touches for 40 scrimmage yards. The week before in the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, Pollard played just 44% of the offensive snaps. Pollard’s workload is clearly being monitored late in the year with him banged up and the Titans out of the playoff picture. If he’s active this weekend against the Jaguars, he’ll be at risk of losing more work to Tyjae Spears, making him a shaky RB3/flex in fantasy despite the excellent matchup against a bad Jaguars defense.Keith Hernandez – RotoBaller

As we head into Week 17 of the fantasy football season, Tony Pollard is a player to keep an eye on. With the Dallas Cowboys facing off against a tough opponent in their final regular-season game, Pollard’s performance could have a big impact on fantasy matchups.

Pollard has been a solid contributor for the Cowboys all season, both as a runner and a pass-catcher out of the backfield. He has shown explosive playmaking ability and has been a reliable option for fantasy owners, especially in PPR leagues.

In Week 17, Pollard could be in for a big game against a defense that has struggled against the run. The Cowboys may look to establish the ground game early and often, giving Pollard plenty of opportunities to rack up yards and potentially find the end zone.

Fantasy owners should feel confident starting Pollard as a flex option or even as a RB2, depending on their roster construction. He has the potential to put up solid numbers and could be a difference-maker in championship matchups.

Keep an eye on injury reports leading up to the game, as Pollard’s workload could be affected by the health of other key players on the Cowboys offense. But if he is healthy and ready to go, Tony Pollard could be a valuable asset for fantasy teams in Week 17.
