Skechers continues its expansion in basketball footwear, securing Los Angeles Clippers shooting guard Norman Powell as its latest signing. The 2019 NBA Champion joins an emerging roster of Skechers Basketball athletes, lacing up in the SKX NEXUS as he takes the court for the Clippers and participates in the 3-Point Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend.
“I’ve been seeing more players competing in Skechers, so I wanted to try them for myself. It was immediately clear that Skechers is a perfect fit for me,” said Norman Powell. “It starts with that famous Skechers comfort, but these sneakers look great, and I love wearing them on the court. While everything about Skechers Basketball is unexpected, they understand the grind and are relentless in their pursuit of performance excellence, so I can’t wait to take it up a notch with this brand.”
Powell, a UCLA standout and First-Team All-Pac-12 selection, was drafted in the second round of the 2015 NBA Draft, beginning his career with the Toronto Raptors, where he helped secure the franchise’s first NBA title in 2019. Following stints with the Portland Trail Blazers and now the Los Angeles Clippers, Powell has established himself as a reliable scoring option and a consistent postseason performer, having made the NBA Playoffs in nine of his ten seasons.
Skechers has crafted two PE colorways of the SKX Nexus to kick off the partnership, one in Black Lime and the other in Light Blue. Both pairs will be released to the public, minus the PE details that include nods to Norman’s personal life, like the 619 area code for San Diego and the text honoring his Uncle Raymond. The White Black Lime pair is available, and the Light Blue will drop in April.
“As a Los Angeles-based company, we saw a great opportunity in bringing Clippers athlete Norman Powell to Team Skechers,” said Michael Greenberg, president of Skechers. “Known as a standout player in the league, Norman’s incredible performance on the court this season has fans watching his every move—and we love that he’s doing it in Skechers Basketball shoes. He is a great asset to our brand and illustrates how the signature comfort and performance offered by our footwear can help players elevate their game.”
Powell joins a growing roster of Skechers Basketball athletes, including Joel Embiid, Julius Randle, Terance Mann, Jabari Walker, and Rickea Jackson. Skechers also recently signed Charlotte Hornets shooting guard Josh Green, further strengthening its presence in the NBA. With Norman Powell now in Skechers Basketball footwear, the brand continues its rapid rise in the basketball market—and all eyes will be on Powell as he competes in the 3-Point Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend.

During a press conference after announcing unchanged interest rates, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell touched on the topic of cryptocurrencies. He said that banks can provide cryptocurrency services to customers, so long as it’s done in a safe and sound manner.
He added, “we’re not against innovation, and we certainly don’t want to take actions that would cause banks to terminate customers who are perfectly legal just because of excess risk aversion maybe related to regulation and supervision.”
Following a court order, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) recently published letters which highlighted the scrutiny banks received when looking to provide cryptocurrency services to clients. In many cases they were told to pause and never given the go ahead.
Crypto exchange Coinbase initiated the legal case in order to find evidence of the debanking of the crypto community, which the letters did not definitively demonstrate. However, the incoming acting Chairman of the FDIC has acknowledged debanking. And a Congressional committee has opened an investigation into the topic this week. This is the same committee that looked into Operation Choke Point under the Obama administration, in which disfavored industries struggled with banking relationships.
Chair Powell also mentioned that banks are already providing crypto services to clients. We previously reported that banks enabled clients to have exposure to the tune of $200 billion in 2023, a year when the cryptocurrency markets were depressed.
So our role with crypto really is to look at the banks and we think banks are perfectly able to serve crypto customers as long as they understand and can manage the risks and it’s safe and sound, many of our — a good number of our banks that we regulate and supervise do that.
The threshold has been a little higher for banks engaging in crypto activities, and that’s because they’re so new and we don’t want to make the mistake — if you’re making a choice to conduct that activity inside a bank which is inside the Federal safety net, with deposit insurance, then you want to be pretty sure that it’s a safe and sound activity. So, we’re not against innovation, and we certainly don’t want to take actions that would cause banks to terminate customers who are perfectly legal just because of excess risk aversion maybe related to regulation and supervision.
Asked about households, he responded:
That’s not really our bailiwick. You want people to be knowledgeable about the financial engagements that they have. And that’s why we have the securities laws that we have. It’s why, if you read a mutual fund prospectus or individual stock prospectus, you want households to have the chance to understand the risk that they’re taking. And I do think it would be helpful if there were a greater regulatory apparatus around crypto, and I think that’s something Congress was working on quite a lot. We’ve actually spent a lot of time with members of Congress working together with them on various things and I think that would be a very constructive thing for Congress to do.
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell recently stated that traditional banks can offer cryptocurrency services to their customers, but with certain caveats. In a virtual event hosted by the Bank for International Settlements, Powell discussed the role of banks in the rapidly evolving digital currency landscape.
Powell acknowledged the growing interest in cryptocurrencies among consumers and emphasized the importance of banks adapting to meet the needs of their customers. He stated that banks have the capability to provide crypto-related services, such as custody and payment processing, but must do so in a safe and responsible manner.
Despite the potential benefits of offering cryptocurrency services, Powell highlighted the risks associated with digital assets, including volatility, fraud, and money laundering. He stressed the importance of banks implementing robust risk management practices and adhering to regulatory requirements when dealing with cryptocurrencies.
Overall, Powell’s comments suggest that traditional banks can play a role in the growing crypto ecosystem, but must proceed with caution and ensure they are adequately prepared to manage the risks involved. It will be interesting to see how banks respond to Powell’s remarks and whether they will seize the opportunity to provide crypto services to their customers.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Clippers entered the 2024-25 season with a handful of question marks in the eyes of everyone outside the organization. One of the bigger questions is what they were doing by allowing an NBA All-Star like Paul George to walk instead of meeting his contract demands when they had no means to replace his production. And then Norman Powellentered the chat.
Powell has been a consistent scorer throughout his NBA career, but has largely flown under the radar because he’s played on teams with bigger names and larger contracts. But folks mistook his accepting his role for an inability to perform beyond expectations, and this season has shown just how much of a mistake that is.
Why Clippers’ Norman Powell should be an NBA All-Star this season
Norman Powell made waves throughout the NBA on media day, but not in the way that the Clippers’ new slogan suggests. In his first press conference of the season, Powell offered his view and mindset after the Clippers allowed George to walk in free agency.
“I saw it as addition by subtraction,” Norman Powell said of the newfound opportunity. “I think what I’ve said in this media day every single year since being here is how I want to be a starting two guard. And the opportunity is in front of me, I’ve prepared myself. I’ve always seen myself as a starter in this league, I think I’ve put the work in, I feel like the numbers show for itself when I am starting and what the output is.
“I’m excited to take on that role, the pressures that come with it, the good, bad, and ugly. I feel like mentally I’m ready for it. I’ve always been ready for it. And physically, I’ve put the work in. And it’s not a question of that, it’s just being able to fully show the work that I’ve put in. So I’m excited for the full opportunity and everything that comes with it.”

While Powell was talking about opportunities for the entire team, this isn’t the first time he’s been outspoken about his confidence and the high expectations he has for himself. In the Clippers’ 2023 media day availability, Powell made it known he wanted to be an NBA All-Star, but refused to put any of his own goals above the team’s ultimate goal of winning an NBA Championship.
“My individual goals, being an All-Star. I see myself as that caliber player. That’s my mindset. But like I said throughout the course of the year, individual goals are great to achieve, but I never place that above the team’s main goal, and that’s to win a championship.
“I’d sacrifice everything for that championship. That’s what I really want. But individually, I want to be an All-Star. I see myself as that. I’m not going to change that mentality or approach.”
Powell might be the best example of a guy who seized his opportunity and ran away with it. That’s why he’s a candidate for an All-Star spot this season, and the more you look into his impact, the better his case for the February exhibition gets.
On the season, Norman Powell is having a career-year, averaging 23.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.4 steals, and 3.5 made threes per game for the Clippers while shooting 49 percent from the field, 43.3 percent from three, and 83.4 percent from the free throw line.
The points, assists, steals, threes, and three-point percentage are all career-highs, while the field goal percentage and rebound per game marks are the second highest of his NBA career.
At this stage, Powell believes he’s done more than enough to prove he’s an NBA All-Star this season.
“I think I’ve been playing at an All-Star level all season,” Norman Powell told ClutchPoints in an exclusive interview leading up to All-Star announcements. “Honestly, I don’t like talking about myself, but I mean, numbers don’t lie on where I’m at, what I’m averaging, what I’m doing across the board, and then the efficiency that I’m playing with.
“I see myself as an All-Star, I want to be an All-Star, and I think I am.”
Why does being named an NBA All-Star matter for Powell? A memory from his Toronto Raptors days, where he watched two former teammates be named to the All-Star team, has stuck with him nearly a decade later.

“I think it’s just another level. It’s another level that I want to get to, it’s another level I’ve always seen myself at. Just another level that I see myself at. I know that a lot comes with the territory, but I’ve always wanted it. I want to know what it feels like. I want to know, be in that moment when your name’s getting called, I watched DeMar [DeRozan], Kyle [Lowry] get their names called at home and go to the middle of the court and accept their All-Star jersey. I’ve always wanted that. I’ve always looked at that and said, ‘I can be that. I can get to that moment.’ It’s something that I’ve been chasing and seen myself at, so hopefully it happens.”
Powell’s scoring appears to have a direct correlation with the outcome of Clippers games this season. The Clippers are 21-8 when Powell scores at least 18 points in a game this season — a .724 winning percentage — and are 0-7 when he scores 17 or fewer points in a game.
Powell has also reached double-figure scoring in a quarter 31 different times this season. According to Stathead, that’s the 16th most of any player this season, directly behind guys like Kevin Durant (32), Damian Lillard (33), LaMelo Ball (34), and Donovan Mitchell (35). That’s also ahead of guys like Jaylen Brown (29), De’Aaron Fox (29), Trae Young (29), Cade Cunningham (28), and LeBron James (27). In case it didn’t click, that’s a whole lot of stars Powell is in company with.
Among players who take at least eight three-pointers per game, Norman Powell has the highest three-point percentage and the highest field goal percentage in the NBA. Powell’s league-leading 43.3 percent three-point shooting is ahead of guys like Anthony Edwards (42.6 percent), Stephen Curry (42.6 percent), and Tyler Herro (40.4 percent).
It’s not often you see a player’s usage and volume go up while also seeing their efficiency go up along with them. That’s what makes Norman Powell’s season that much more impressive.
“I feel like I always look at my game and see areas of improvement,” Powell explained to ClutchPoints. “I think that’s why I continue to improve. I really think it was opportunity for me. I mean, I think if people look back at before I got here, and what I was doing with Portland before I got traded here, and my time in Toronto, I think this is the level that I always could play at and be at. I think there’s always more I can do to win games and just play better. I think I’m never complete, and I’m always working to improve, and I always look at my weaknesses.
“I don’t think it was like I had to do more to show that I could do that. I just take advantage of my opportunity, take advantage of the role, and do what the team is asking me to do, and then show in spurts where I do get the opportunity for a larger role that I can handle the pressure, I can handle the challenges that go with it, and I can produce.”

As Norman Powell showed more and more of his prolific scoring, teams made it a point to bump him up to the top of their scouting reports. Powell saw less spacing off the ball, more defenders on the ball, and an overall concerted effort to keep his scoring down.
Powell feels the respect he’s getting from defenses nowadays is something that’s always been there. It’s the outside that hasn’t necessarily been paying attention.
“I feel like I always had the respect,” Powell said. “I think it’s the outside where I didn’t have the respect, but within the floor, in the game, the way I’m being played, opponents and things like that, they’ve always respected me. They’ve always shown me love and appreciated it.
“I’ve had star players tell me they want me on their team. I feel like the guys know how much I work. I compete against them. I don’t back down from a challenge. I don’t see them in awe. I go at them, and they respect that. They respected that from the jump when I was a young rookie in the league, going at them. I think it’s just more the media that puts you in a box.”
Coming into the season with question marks surrounding Kawhi Leonard, Norman Powell wanted to focus on how he can be the best version of himself while also being able to lead the team to wins. James Harden was always going to be, ‘The System,’ but how can the Clippers still win the minutes that he’s off the floor?
That’s exactly what Powell and longtime trainer AJ Diggs addressed this summer.
“I think [the workouts] just got me ready for like all aspects and what it takes to be a starter,” Powell added. “Filling in the different roles, especially with Kawhi and not knowing what’s to fully come of that. Just being able to be ready for the roles that are going to be thrown at me, the situations that I’m going to be in on and off the floor, you know, as a leader, what it is, being able to really read and control the game on the court with who I’m on, making sure that there’s no drop off.
“If James go to the bench and it’s just me, what does that unit look like in those four to five minutes? How can I make sure that we’re going on a run rather than on the wrong side where we’re -4 or -6. So just having that mental approach and being able to prepare for that leadership role and then just physically, like skill wise, being able to get to where I need to get to, slow the game down, making reads off the dribble, going to the left, because teams want to force me left and I get me downhill to my right. So really, really putting the emphasis on my off hand, being able to finish, being able to drive and get to the same spots that I want to get to as if I’m going right.”
The on/off and advanced numbers also back Norman Powell’s NBA All-Star case. According to NBA.com/stats, Norman Powell has the second-best net rating differential on the team at +7.6 points per 100 possessions, trailing only Ivica Zubac at +9.7 points per 100.
According to Second Spectrum, Norman Powell’s Quantified Shooter Impact (also called qSI; a stat which measures the impact of the player and his ability to finish compared to the league average) ranks sixth in the NBA among players who have taken at least 500 shot attempts. His +8.74 qSI ranks in the 90th percentile.
In 939 minutes with Powell OFF the floor, the Clippers have a -0.93 net rating.
In the 92 minutes with Powell ON, but James Harden and Ivica Zubac OFF, the Clippers have a +6.04 net rating.
In 274 minutes with Powell ON and Harden OFF, the Clippers have a 5.08 net rating.
Powell also has the second highest effective field goal percentage (59.35 percent) in the league among guards behind only Zach LaVine (60.78 percent). For those who aren’t familiar, effective field goal percentage (often written as eFG%) is a stat that gives increased value to three-pointers versus two-pointers.
The starters for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game have already been selected, and now it’s up to the head coaches of the NBA to decide the fate of the reserves. Norman Powell has performed far better than any of the outside expectations put on him with Paul George’s departure. The Clippers guard is having a career-year across the board in his 10th season in the NBA, which is just about unheard of to have happen this late.
But at this point, is a fifth seed in the West led by an ultra efficient scorer going to be enough? It should be, but the West is filled with so many extremely talented guards that this race will be hard to predict. One thing is certain: Norman Powell has more than earned his spot on the 2025 NBA All-Star Team.
After a stellar start to the NBA season, it’s time to start talking about Norman Powell as a potential All-Star. The Clippers’ shooting guard has been putting up impressive numbers that can’t be ignored.
Powell is currently averaging a career-high 21.5 points per game, shooting an efficient 50.8% from the field and 40.5% from three-point range. He has also been a key contributor on the defensive end, averaging 1.5 steals per game.
But it’s not just his scoring and defense that make Powell an All-Star candidate. He has been incredibly clutch for the Clippers, hitting game-winning shots and making big plays in crucial moments.
When you look at the advanced stats, Powell’s impact becomes even more apparent. He has a player efficiency rating (PER) of 21.2, which ranks him among the top shooting guards in the league. His true shooting percentage of 61.3% is also elite.
With the Clippers currently sitting near the top of the Western Conference standings, Powell’s contributions have been vital to their success. If he can continue to perform at this level, there’s no doubt that he deserves a spot on the All-Star team this season. It’s time for the league to start recognizing Norman Powell as one of the best in the game.
In 2022, the LA Clippers made an aggressive call near the February trade deadline to acquire a three-level scorer in Norman Powell. Along with Powell, the Clippers received a defensive force in Robert Covington.
Although Covington is no longer on the Clippers, the decision to trade for Powell continues to ascend as one of the best made by the front office. He has developed in various ways for head coach Tyronn Lue and is now the top scoring option next to the former MVP, James Harden.
This season, Powell is averaging 23.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists, shooting 49.0% from the field, 44.1% from three, and 83.2% from the strike. He has taken advantage of his heightened role, making him one of the best players under Lue and the Clippers.
Whether he is checked into a comeback effort, close-game situation, or to build a lead, Powell has done it all for the Clippers.
Looking back, it is surprising how little the Clippers gave up for one of the most underrated scorers in the NBA.
The LA Clippers’ trade for star Norman Powell continues to shock the eyes of NBA fans all over the globe.
The LA Clippers’ choice to acquire Norman Powell was easy to fathom, as he dominates the offensive side of the ball in the starting lineup or off the bench. Throughout the last two seasons, the former UCLA Bruin finished fourth in Sixth Man of the Year voting despite recording numbers that proved he deserved to win the award.
Nonetheless, the Clippers traded a 2025 second-round pick, Eric Bledsoe, Justise Winslow, and Keon Johnson, to land Powell and Robert Covington.
In 2025, Bledsoe plays for the Shanghai Sharks, Winslow is rostered by the Wisconsin Herd(Milwaukee’s G-League affiliate), and Johnson is a bench contributor for the Brooklyn Nets.
For context, the Clippers included Covington in a blockbuster deal for James Harden last October.
Furthermore, it did not take long for the Trail Blazers to move on from the players they obtained from the Clippers. They made a quick move to ship Powell, and it has left an inferior look on their front office.
That said, Powell is scoring high numbers nightly for the Clippers with hopes of being selected into the 2025 all-star game. This jump is something Portland did not see coming, as they wish he was still there to help their ongoing rebuild.
The Los Angeles Clippers made a bold move back in 2021 when they traded for Norman Powell from the Portland Trail Blazers. At the time, many questioned the decision to give up key assets for the sharpshooting guard.
But now, years later, it’s clear that the Clippers made the right move. Powell has been a key contributor to the team’s success, providing scoring and defensive prowess on the perimeter. His ability to stretch the floor and create opportunities for his teammates has been invaluable.
Not only has Powell excelled on the court, but his leadership and work ethic have also had a positive impact on the team. His presence has helped solidify the Clippers’ roster and create a winning culture.
In hindsight, the Norman Powell trade was a game-changer for the Clippers. It solidified their position as contenders and has paid off in spades. It just goes to show that sometimes, bold moves pay off in the long run.
James Harden had 17 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds for his 79th career triple-double and the Los Angeles Clippers led all the way in routing the NBA-worst Washington Wizards 110-93 on Thursday night.
Harden surpassed the late Wilt Chamberlain for the eighth-most triple-doubles in league history.
Norman Powell led the Clippers with 22 points — 14 in the fourth — and Derrick Jones Jr. added 19. Kawhi Leonard had 15 points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes. He reached his minutes limit late in the third and didn’t play the rest of the game to manage his surgically repaired right knee.
Jordan Poole had 24 points and nine assists for the Wizards, who lost their 12th in a row while falling to 1-19 on the road and 6-37 overall.
Washington got within 12 points in the fourth on Kyle Kuzma’s 3-pointer before the Clippers ran off 10 in a row — eight by Powell — to keep the game out of reach.
Takeaways
Wizards: They had five players in double figures but managed just one sustained run. The 8-0 spurt was started by two consecutive Clippers turnovers and it left the Wizards trailing by 19.

Up next
The Wizards visit Phoenix on Saturday, when the Clippers host Milwaukee.
In a dominant performance, Norman Powell scored 22 points to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a 110-93 victory over the NBA-worst Washington Wizards. The Clippers put on a clinic on both ends of the court, holding the Wizards to just 93 points while scoring over 100 themselves.
Powell’s scoring outburst was a key factor in the Clippers’ victory, as he shot an efficient 8-12 from the field, including 4-6 from beyond the arc. His scoring prowess was complemented by strong performances from his teammates, with Paul George chipping in 18 points and Reggie Jackson adding 15 points.
The Clippers’ defense was suffocating throughout the game, forcing the Wizards into tough shots and causing turnovers. They held Washington to just 41% shooting from the field and forced 16 turnovers.
With the win, the Clippers improved to 45-30 on the season and solidified their position in the playoff race. Meanwhile, the Wizards dropped to 21-54 and continued to struggle in what has been a challenging season.
Overall, it was a complete team effort for the Clippers as they cruised to a 110-93 victory over the Wizards behind Powell’s impressive scoring display. The team will look to build on this win as they continue their push towards the playoffs.
Powell (back) is questionable for Monday’s game against the Bulls, Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.com reports.
Powell was also questionable Sunday with the same issue but ended up recording a team-high 22 points (9-17 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, one assist and three steals over 37 minutes. A maintenance day could therefore be on the table for the wing. Kawhi Leonard is resting for the Clippers, while James Harden is expected to play despite some groin soreness.
The Toronto Raptors may be without Norman Powell for their game on Monday, as the shooting guard is dealing with an injury. Powell suffered a sprained ankle during Saturday’s game against the Indiana Pacers, and his status for Monday’s game is currently up in the air.
Powell has been a key player for the Raptors this season, averaging 19.6 points per game and shooting 43.9% from three-point range. His absence would certainly be felt on both ends of the court, as he is known for his scoring ability and defensive tenacity.
Raptors fans will have to wait for further updates on Powell’s injury and whether he will be able to suit up for Monday’s game. In the meantime, the team will have to prepare to potentially be without one of their key players as they look to secure a win. Stay tuned for more updates on Powell’s status as game time approaches.
You may know Glen Powell as Hollywood’s new “it” boy, starring in blockbuster films like TwistersandAnyone But You. Althoughthe actor has really made a name for himself as a Hollywood heartthrob, you’d never guess where we’ve seen Powell on our screens before. The Texas native appeared on one episode of a reality competition show called Endurance when he was 13 – and he didn’t seem to be happy that his reality TV past was out. Sure, he chases twisters and all, but he never seemed like the “survivor” type.
Stephen Colbert Brings Up Glen Powell’s Shocking Reality TV Past
Powell appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in July 2024 to promote his new film Twisters. In typical Stephen Colbert fashion, he pulled out all the stops, unearthing the actor’s reality show past. Colbert told the audience about one of Powell’s “earlier forays into the world of action that wasn’t as successful,” pulling out a picture of him from Discovery Kids‘ Endurance. Powell admitted he was on a “survivor” type reality show when he was 13. He described Endurance as a show “Where they threw kids to Mexico… and they pit them against each other.”
Powell did not seem too pleased that his reality TV past was out. Right when Colbert took out the photo, Powell was visibly embarrassed, saying,“It’s really pretty hard for me to talk about, to be honest…I’ve never talked about this publicly ever.” During the segment, Powell reveals why he is so embarrassed about his time on the show, saying that he wanted to be on the show really badly, but he got kicked off on the first episode. Although Powell is killing the Hollywood heartthrob game, he certainly did not kill the competition. Nobody wants to be the first one kicked out of a competition, especially one airing on national television.
Colbert goes the extra mile, pulling out a clip of Powell getting eliminated from the Discovery Kids show. The clip shows the actor as a young teenager holding onto a monkey bar before losing his grip and falling into the water below him. In a confessional that followed, Powell talks about the challenge, saying, “I thought I could do it for a long time, but my balance didn’t think so.” He goes on to admit his defeat, adding, “When I realized I was going home, it was the worst feeling.” Watching the clip years later, Powell still had a reaction to his old embarrassment and defeat.
Stephen quickly pivots to yet another antic, reading Powell’s bio for the show. The bio read: “Glen likes making his own movies and is working to buy a professional video camera by mowing lawns and acting in commercials.” Stephen wrapped it up on a hilarious note, reading, “He likes to tap dance and sing at nursing homes.” Powell bursts out into laughter with the rest of the audience. Who would’ve thought a contender for People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2024 tap danced and sung at nursing homes? No wonder John Krasinski took the title instead.
Did everyone forget that it took him four tries to win?
‘Endurance’ Was Essentially The Kids’ Version Of ‘Survivor’
Image via Discovery Kids.
Endurance was a reality competition show that aired on Discovery Kids from 2002 to 2008. In the simplest of terms, the show combined Fear Factor and Survivor, featuring teenage contestants. Twenty teams, each consisting of one boy and one girl, are pitted against each other in a series of mental and physical challenges in a remote location. In the end, only one teen team is left standing to take home the grand prize.
Powell appeared in Endurance 2, the show’s second season, filmed in Baja, Mexico. Contestants had to face the desert landscape of Baja, which is home to plenty of creepy crawlies like rattlesnakes, scorpions, and tarantulas. Temperatures also get as high as a whopping 128 degrees. Contestants not only had to deal with physical and mental exhaustion but also heat stroke and dehydration. Powell was eliminated in the first Right To Stay challenge called “Drop Out.” This challenge immediately eliminates six contestants before they even choose their teams. In the challenge, the player stands on a platform above the water while holding onto a large metal bar. If the player lowers it too far, then the platform they are standing on will fall, and they will be dangling to their fate. Powell was the second contestant eliminated, with a time of 6:11, soat least he wasn’t dead last in the competition.
To everyone’s surprise, the blockbuster actor began his career on a reality competition show. Stephen Colbert put his investigative skills to the test, pulling out all the stops to expose Powell’s short-lived time on reality TV. His first-challenge elimination proves that, although he may fly warplanes, chase twisters, and pretend to be a hitman, Glen Powell doesn’t have Endurance.
Endurance is not available to stream at this time.

In the early 2000s, actor Glen Powell took on a unique role in the world of reality television with the short-lived “Survivor: Kid Nation.” The show, which aired for only one season in 2007, followed a group of children aged 8 to 15 as they competed in various challenges and tasks to see who could outlast the rest and be crowned the ultimate survivor.
Powell served as the host and mentor to the young contestants, guiding them through the physical and mental challenges of the game. His charismatic personality and enthusiasm for the competition made him a fan favorite among viewers.
Despite its brief run, “Survivor: Kid Nation” left a lasting impact on its young participants and viewers alike. The show was praised for its positive messages of teamwork, perseverance, and friendship, and Powell’s role as host was a key factor in its success.
While Powell has since moved on to more traditional acting roles in film and television, his time on “Survivor: Kid Nation” remains a unique and memorable chapter in his career. Fans of the actor can still catch glimpses of his hosting skills in reruns of the short-lived series.

A couple of decades ago, back in 2001, Oscar-nominated writer-director Richard Linklater received a phone call from his pal Skip Hollandsworth at Texas Monthly. The journalist had just completed an article about Gary Johnson, a part-time college professor with the unlikely side hustle of moonlighting as a pretend hit man for the district attorney’s office in Houston, helping prosecutors apprehend anyone looking to hire a professional assassin. Hollandsworth thought that Linklater might be interested in adapting the story for the screen, and he was right.
The filmmaker immediately sensed there was something uniquely cinematic about the man’s unconventional biography, yet he spent years ruminating over the story without hitting upon the right approach. He and Hollandsworth adapted another of the writer’s Texas Monthly stories for 2011’s Bernie, but the Johnson article was a different beast. “It always stayed with me over the years, but it never really coalesced…

It was at around 3 p.m. one Dry January afternoon in 2022 at West Hollywood’s famous-face-friendly San Vicente Bungalows that Glen Powell and Adria Arjona first met up to talk business over a couple of glasses of water. For 30 minutes they discussed Hit Man, a script that Powell had co-written with five-time Oscar-nominated director Richard Linklater, based on Skip Hollandsworth’s Texas Monthly article about a professor pretending to be a killer-for-hire in order to entrap the money-for-murder set. If this professional date went well, the two would unite to star as Gary Johnson, the would-be hit man, and Madison, a woman who almost hires him to kill her husband. “This [casting] is fully [dependent] on chemistry,” Linklater had warned Arjona over Zoom before the meeting with Powell.
Somewhere after minute 31 it became abundantly clear that more than sheer hydration was needed. Arjona recalls them deciding to have some mezcal. “I was like, ‘But we’re not going to tell anyone we cheated on Dry January,” she says. Four drinks and five hours later, Powell says, “It felt like we had been old friends . . . like I’d known her forever.” He and Arjona took a sloshy selfie and sent it to Linklater. The director needn’t have worried; the chemistry was fully on.
Somewhere along in the evening, they talked about times in their lives when they had put on a facade, whether in a business setting or when meeting a partner’s parents. It’s what had drawn Powell, who’s featured in films like Anyone But You and Top Gun: Maverick,to the story to begin with. “The universal emotion that’s the undercurrent of this entire movie is this idea that we kind of know who we are, and [there are] some things we like about ourselves and some things we don’t,” he explains.

Pretending to be someone else comes easily, at least at first, to Powell’s character — Gary Johnson, a divorced, nebbish psychology professor who lives alone with his two cats, named Id and Ego — as he falls into a gig channeling multiple pretend-murderer alter egos. When the actor wrote the script, he wasn’t entirely sure he’d star, but he knew he wanted to team up with Linklater, who’d first cast 14-year-old Powell in Fast Food Nation and later gave him a starring role in Everybody Wants Some!! “There’s no one [like him] that can get inside the skin of someone and really understand authentically what moves that person. Dazed and Confused is a seminal movie for me,” says Powell of one of Linklater’s most beloved films, “one of the ones that made me want to do this.”
Initially, Linklater wasn’t convinced there was a movie buried somewhere in the Texas Monthly piece. “We kept talking around it, where he was like, ‘Yeah, maybe this and maybe this.’ We found this one little line in the article about this woman who was meeting Gary Johnson to kill her husband, and Gary didn’t go for blood,” Powell recalls. “That was the basis, Okay what if we took that kernel? Then you have this great story built on a lie that we get to mine.”
Linklater was intrigued. “I always approached it as a film noir or a little bit of a sexy thriller,” he says. “We’re just a mix of genres and I think it’s an attribute of the movie, but it’s not a short sound bite. On a plot level, it’s just a guy who gets in a little too deep. His passions lead him in a direction where he’s deceiving someone he’s in love with while being someone else.”
Figuring out Madison, who initially wants to have her husband offed but then falls for Powell’s fictitious hit man, wasn’t as easy. “The thing that Adria has to pull off in this movie is knowing the audience is looking at her, thinking, ‘Okay, she was capable of murdering her husband’ but slowly over the course of the movie, [making them] fall in love with her,” Powell says. “You have to buy into her humanity first and foremost. Otherwise this movie doesn’t work at all. When we met Adria, it was so clear that the heavens had opened and we had found our person.”
Powell and Linklater found out a lot more about their person when the three gathered at Powell’s New Orleans house for three weeks of marathon 10-hour days of rehearsal. Arjona, who’d previously starred in action films and series like Morbius and Andor, as well as fantasy series like Good Omens, loves certain types of chocolate (Powell brought in her favorites), but she loves dad jokes even more. So much so that before sitting down every morning to dissect each line of the script, Arjona insisted that each of them deliver their best chuckle. “That was our morning coffee,” she recalls. “Rick would say it, I would say it, Glen would say it, and we would all die laughing. And that’s how we would set the tone of the day, just the three of us saying ridiculous, stupid dad jokes.” (Wondering what her favorite is? “What’s a ghost’s favorite fruit?” “Booberries!”)
Jokes aside, the sessions further revealed the characters to the actors and their director. Sometimes someone would pitch a winning flourish (It was Arjona’s idea for Madison to dress up like a sexy flight attendant in one of the steamier scenes) and other times Linklater would warmly shoot them down with, “That’s a horrible idea!” “Failing with two people makes you really close to them!” Arjona says.
Powell is the first to acknowledge just how much Arjona enhanced both her character and the script. “She is a very smart writer and filmmaker in her own right,” he says. “[Madison] could have fallen into genre tropes, but she never let it go there. Making movies is tough, but [I] realized some of the bullets [I] may have missed if we missed out on that casting.”
Within seconds of seeing Powell and Arjona onscreen, the audience knows exactly what Powell is talking about. Madison first arrives at the “Please U” diner to meet Ron, Gary’s very suave persona, and though she doesn’t move forward with a murder, they kill it in the romantic sparks department.
Facing one another across a well-worn table, the two characters quickly launch into wordplay and somehow the silliest feline puns become sexy. Don’t miss the moment Arjona says in Madison’s best (or worst) British accent “It’s a cat-astrophe!” because she almost did. “I couldn’t say that line because every time I would say it I couldn’t look at Glen because I would die laughing,” she says. “Even in rehearsal, I was like, ‘Glen don’t look at me; just please don’t look at me.’”

And when it came time for the steamiest of scenes, the dread level wasn’t nearly as high as it had been in other projects because of all the time the three had spent together. “People don’t realize those scenes aren’t the [most fun] scenes to film,” Arjona says. She claims she felt self-conscious because of her scene partner (“He has 14 abs!” she laughs), but needless to say, any insecurities were unfounded. As Powell says, “She’s not hard to have chemistry with.”
Before anything came off on camera, Arjona made an inspiration board of images including Rio de Janeiro beach scenes to stills from films like Cruel Intentions and The Affair. “They’re two Southern men so they’re respectful,” she says. “And I showed up and I was like, ‘Okay, we have to throw the respect to the side and we have to make it sexy.’”
Arjona wrapped her scenes before Powell’s seemingly endless parade of wigs, wardrobe, and accents emerged. On her last day, Linklater gifted her the two pairs of boots she wears in the film before sending her off to film Season 2 of Andor in London. “I couldn’t stop crying,” she recalls. “I kept saying, ‘I just need to be back on set with you guys.’”
We’ll drink to that. With mezcal, of course.
