  • Inzaghi: Sparta Prague a ‘tough’ game for Inter, Frattesi gives me hope

Simone Inzaghi warns Inter will need all their determination to defeat Sparta Prague in a ‘tough’ game and close in on direct access to the Champions League round-of-18, as they have a chance of retaining a spot in the top eight by securing a win in their league phase’s second-last match.

The Nerazzurri coach reiterated his side’s will to be ‘protagonists’ on the European stage while also keeping up their title challenge, admitting he still has ‘a few doubts’ about the starting XI he will line up on Wednesday, with wantaway Davide Frattesi in contention to get the nod over one of Inter’s stars.

Inzaghi wants ‘determined’ Inter against Sparta Prague and could start Frattesi

“It’s going to be a tough match,” Inzaghi told reporters in a pre-match press conference, as quoted by Fcinternews.

“I still have a few doubts, and I’ll have to decide. There are a couple of doubts and I’ll keep them until tomorrow morning.

“They haven’t played an official match since December 15, but they’ve done well in friendlies, and playing here on this pitch, where I’ve also played, is never easy.

“Sparta are a physical team that plays vertical football. They defend with five at the back, but their formation can adapt. They’re a strong team; they did well in their first two matches and only lost to top opponents like City and Atletico.

“We’ll need a determined Inter; they have Champions League DNA.

“I don’t like people talking about me; they should talk about Inter, who are on a great path. We need to keep doing what we’re doing in both the Champions League and Serie A.

“We want to defend the Scudetto, knowing we have strong opponents. In the Champions League, we aim to be protagonists—it’s in Inter’s DNA, and we must leave nothing to chance.

“There are many matches ahead, but as a coach, I love this. I hope everyone can help me until the end. Everyone contributes, both to me and the fans. Some players are out right now, but I hope they return soon because I need everyone.”

Frattesi has been the object of transfer speculations in recent weeks, with rumours suggesting he’s asked to leave the club this January, but Inzaghi insisted he ‘trained very well’, to the extent he’s considering fielding the former Sassuolo midfielder in the place of Nicolò Barella.

“He trained very well yesterday and today,” the manager continued.

“Against Empoli, he wanted to come to the bench with us, but he wasn’t available. Now I’m deciding whether to start him or not.

“Barella has started seven matches in a row, and I need to choose between the two. Davide has done well, and I’m happy because he’s worked hard over the past few days. He’s calm, enjoys being with the group, and seeing him work as he has recently gives me hope.”

Francesco Acerbi’s poor fitness has sparked worries among Inter staff and directors, who may be forced to bring in a defender in the winter transfer window, and the 48-year-old explained his return date has been postponed because ‘he still can’t push at full intensity’.

“The club is always with us, monitoring the situation, but I wouldn’t change any player,” Inzaghi claimed.

“Acerbi is working well and seemed close to returning last Sunday against Empoli, but he still can’t push at full intensity. We don’t want to rush him.

“He won’t be available for Lecce either; he needs to continue working on his own. I’m not worried, though. He’s crucial for us, and he’ll be back soon.”

Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi has described their upcoming Europa League clash against Sparta Prague as a ‘tough’ game, acknowledging the challenge that lies ahead for his team.

Inzaghi, who took charge of Inter this summer following Antonio Conte’s departure, is well aware of the strength of their opponents and the importance of approaching the game with the right mindset.

However, despite the tough task at hand, Inzaghi is optimistic about his team’s chances and believes that midfielder Nicolo Frattesi could be a key player in helping them secure a positive result.

Frattesi, who joined Inter on loan from Sassuolo this summer, has impressed in his early performances for the club and has shown great potential to make a significant impact in the team.

Inzaghi’s faith in Frattesi gives fans hope that Inter can overcome the challenge posed by Sparta Prague and continue their strong start to the season in Europe.

  • Preview: Sparta Prague vs. Inter Milan – prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday’s Champions League clash between Sparta Prague and Inter Milan, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Closing in on automatic qualification for the last 16, Inter Milan will resume their Champions League campaign on Wednesday, when they visit struggling Sparta Prague.

Inter’s 13 points from six games puts them on track to avoid the playoffs, while Sparta’s modest tally of four leaves them in the elimination places.

Edged out in a battle of German and Italian champions, Inter suffered their first Champions League defeat of the season just before the winter break, losing to a 90th-minute goal away to Bayer Leverkusen.

It was the first goal the Nerazzurri had conceded throughout the league phase, finally ending a run of five straight clean sheets, but they remain among the front-runners to secure a cherished top-eight berth.

With two games to play, the three-time European champions and 2023 runners-up can confirm qualification by beating Sparta Prague and then Monaco before the end of January.

This season, Simone Inzaghi‘s side have lost just three of 29 matches across all competitions – twice being beaten by city rivals AC Milan either side of their last-gasp loss in Leverkusen.

Since letting a two-goal lead slip against Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana final, Inter have bounced back by adding seven more points to their Serie A total, leaving them tucked three points behind leaders Napoli with one game in hand.

On Sunday, captain Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring in a 3-1 home win over Empoli, before freewheeling wing-back Denzel Dumfries found the net for a fourth time in five matches; top scorer Marcus Thuram then emerged from the bench to wrap up victory.

Also into the Coppa Italia quarter-finals, the Scudetto holders are unbeaten in 15 league games, while a recent 1-0 win at Venezia was their sixth consecutive away victory in Serie A without conceding – that streak set a new club record.

Furthermore, Inter are undefeated against Czech opponents in the Champions League to date, so they will head for Prague as huge favourites.

Sparta have faced each Inter on four previous occasions in UEFA competition, winning once and losing all the others, but Wednesday’s clash will be the first time the clubs have met in Europe’s top tournament.

Last time out, the Czech champions suffered a 4-2 defeat to Feyenoord, having trailed by three on the half-hour mark at De Kuip, meaning they have now lost their last four league-phase fixtures while conceding 17 goals.

Despite making a bright start to their campaign – putting three past Red Bull Salzburg without reply, then drawing 1-1 in Stuttgart – Sparta now need to win their last two games and hope to sneak inside the top 24.

However, the statistics make for grim reading. Not only have they won just one of their last 20 Champions League matches outside of qualifying, but a proud 12-game unbeaten streak on home soil has been shattered this term: November’s 2-1 reverse against Brest was followed by their heaviest defeat ever in the competition, a 6-0 drubbing by Atletico Madrid.

Having made a 15-game unbeaten start to the season, Sparta have since lost eight of their last 17 – keeping just one clean sheet in 10 – which leaves them facing an early exit from Europe and trailing far behind arch rivals Slavia Prague in the Czech Liga title race.

Since his squad’s most recent competitive fixture – beating Jablonec just before the domestic winter break – coach Lars Friis has taken them to a training camp in Spain, where they won friendlies against Malmo and Bodo/Glimt.

The intensity now steps up a few notches, as after hosting the Serie A champions, Sparta then face an intimidating trip to Leverkusen on the final matchday – and Inter can testify to how tough a test that will be.

While Inter are still missing Yann Bisseck, Hakan Calhanoglu and Joaquin Correa through injury, they recently welcomed back defensive duo Benjamin Pavard and Francesco Acerbi.

Influential midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan also appeared as a substitute on Sunday, having been sidelined for two games, but it remains to be seen whether he will displace Piotr Zielinski in midweek.

While Simone Inzaghi has rotated his strikers in recent matches, Lautaro Martinez is likely to start again, having rediscovered his form in front of goal. Last season’s Capcannoniere now has 111 Serie A strikes, drawing level with compatriot Mauro Icardi as the club’s second-highest foreign scorer.

Meanwhile, Sparta Prague’s main threat could come from Nigerian striker Victor Olatunji, who has been directly involved in three goals from three Champions League starts this season.

Albion Rrahmani and long-term absentees Imanol Garcia and Angelo Preciado are unavailable, while Lukas Haraslin is still struggling with a hamstring problem, but Elias Cobbaut might be ready to rejoin the hosts’ squad.

Bolstering their options, Sparta have recently brought in Venezia midfielder Magnus Andersen and re-signed Jan Kuchta on loan from Midtjylland.

    Sparta Prague possible starting lineup:
Vindahl; Vitik, Panak, Sorensen; Wiesner, Kairinen, Sadilek, Laci, Rynes; Birmancevic, Olatunji

    Inter Milan possible starting lineup:
Sommer; Pavard, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Asllani, Zielinski, Dimarco; Martinez, Thuram

    SM words green background

We say: Sparta Prague 0-2 Inter Milan

Sparta Prague have spent 60% of their Champions League games trailing this season, while Inter have been behind for less than 1% of theirs so far.

That demonstrates the gulf between the two sides, so Italy’s reigning champions should stroll to maximum points and eliminate their hosts.

    Prediction:
Both Sparta Prague and Inter Milan have been in good form recently, so this match is likely to be a closely contested affair. However, with Inter Milan boasting a stronger squad and more experience in European competition, they are the favorites to come out on top. I predict a 2-1 win for Inter Milan.

    Team News:
Sparta Prague will be without the services of injured midfielder David Moberg Karlsson, while Inter Milan will be missing defender Alessandro Bastoni and midfielder Matias Vecino due to injuries. Tottenham agree transfer for Antonin Kinsky with Slavia Prague goalkeeper set for £12.5m move | Football News

Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague.

The 21-year-old will fly into London on Saturday and have a medical on Saturday evening.

Spurs will pay £12.5m for Kinsky, who is a Czech Republic U21 international.

Spurs have serious issues in goal with first-choice Guglielmo Vicario out injured and Fraser Forster among those who have caught a sickness bug in the last week.

Kinsky has kept 12 clean sheets in the Czech First League across 19 league appearances for table-topping Slavia Prague this season.

What are Spurs’ plans for the January transfer window?

    spurs

Tottenham are looking to strengthen their squad this January, looking at a variety of positions given injuries to key players and the decline of form as a result.

Although he has done well under the circumstances, playing Archie Gray at centre-back has not been ideal, so this is one area the club are looking to add depth, as well as in the forward positions and central midfield.

They wanted Conor Gallagher, or someone like him, in the summer, while Timo Werner was brought in on a loan deal in the winger positions rather than permanently, and the injuries to Richarlison and Wilson Odobert have left them short of options.

Spurs want those players back and competing for a place, and in particular Richarlison, who has no desire to go anywhere in January himself, Sky Sports News understands.

South Korean winger Min-Hyeok Yang, 18, officially joins the club on January 1 following the end of his time with Gangwon FC. He has already arrived in England and begun to settle into his new surroundings, but he is a development player for the future.

Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly reached an agreement with Slavia Prague for the transfer of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. The deal is said to be worth £12.5 million, with the Czech shot-stopper set to make the move to the Premier League club in the upcoming transfer window.

Kinsky, 25, has been a standout performer for Slavia Prague in recent seasons, earning rave reviews for his shot-stopping abilities and commanding presence in goal. Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo is believed to be a big admirer of the player and sees him as the perfect addition to his squad.

The transfer is expected to be finalized in the coming days, with Kinsky set to undergo a medical and agree personal terms with Tottenham. The move will provide much-needed competition for current Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and could potentially see Kinsky become the club’s long-term number one.

Fans of Tottenham Hotspur will be eagerly anticipating the arrival of Kinsky, hoping that he can help the team push for a top-four finish in the Premier League next season. Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting transfer development.

Tottenham close to signing goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague

Tottenham Hotspur are close to signing Czech goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky to a long-term deal.

The 21-year-old plays for Czech First League leaders Slavia Prague, where he has kept 12 clean sheets in their 19 league matches.

Sources close to Tottenham have indicated that the Premier League side will pay a fee of more than £10million ($12.4m) including bonuses and add-ons for Kinsky.

The move is expected to be completed later today (Saturday) with Kinsky signing a contract with Spurs until 2030. Kinsky is expected to challenge for the No 1 spot while at Tottenham and is not viewed as a backup.

Spurs lost first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to a right ankle injury in November, with Fraser Forster deputising in the Italian’s absence in their last 10 games.

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou confirmed at a news conference on Friday that Vicario was not expected to return to action until the end of February.

Having previously ruled out signing a free agent goalkeeper to challenge Forster in Vicario’s absence, Postecoglou was also again asked about possible additions in the winter transfer window.

“That is the tricky bit around January. Whether that is Spurs or anyone else, if anyone is looking to supplement in January, usually it is because of some sort of need,” Postecoglou said. “Most clubs don’t plan for January reinforcements and that’s why January is always tricky. Not just for us but all clubs.

“You can still hopefully find some common ground where you can get the right kind of player to come in and help the playing group at the moment because they do need that support.

“The club is working as hard as it possibly can, trust me. They are not having New Year parties, they are out there working trying to improve our situation and they’ll continue to do so.”

Kinsky is a Czech youth international but has been called up to their recent senior squads, remaining on the bench for his country’s Nations League fixtures in October and November.

Slavia Prague have been approached for comment.

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of signing goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague. The 24-year-old shot-stopper has been in impressive form for the Czech side and is seen as a potential long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.

Kinsky is known for his shot-stopping abilities, commanding presence in the box, and excellent distribution skills. He has been a key player for Slavia Prague in recent seasons and has caught the eye of several top European clubs.

Tottenham have been in the market for a new goalkeeper to provide competition for Lloris, and Kinsky seems to fit the bill perfectly. With talks reportedly at an advanced stage, it is believed that a deal could be finalized in the coming days.

Fans of the North London club will be excited at the prospect of seeing Kinsky in action for Tottenham, and his arrival could provide a major boost to their squad ahead of the new season. Stay tuned for more updates on this potential transfer.
