  • Chelsea Predicted Lineup vs. West Ham United: Premier League

Chelsea open the month looking to turn around their fortunes in the Premier League when they host West Ham United at Stamford Bridge.

The honeymoon period of the Enzo Maresca tenure is over. Chelsea were second in the Premier League going into Christmas, playing some of the best soccer in England and even being talked about as possible title challengers. However, that notion quickly disappeared, as the Blues have won just one of their last seven league games, falling out of the Champions League places altogether after one of their worst performances of the season in the 1-3 defeat to Manchester City.

Despite the drop in form, Chelsea have a golden opportunity in front of them. Newcastle United, Bournemouth, Manchester City and Aston Villa all lost over the weekend, meaning a win would elevate Chelsea back to fourth, opening a small gap with their nearest chasers.

Graham Potter will make his return to Stamford Bridge and will be welcomed by a side that’s still without Wesley Fofana, Benoît Badiashile and Romeo Lavia. Despite the recent struggles, Maresca has stuck with a fairly similar lineup lately with the trend likely to continue.

Here’s how Chelsea could lineup in a London derby vs. West Ham United.

GK: Filip Jörgensen—Robert Sánchez has had a nightmare start to 2025 and could see his number one role taken away from him by Jörgensen.

RB: Reece James—Chelsea’s captain has been a bright spot in recent games.

CB: Trevoh Chalobah—Chalobah will look to replicate his performance vs. Wolves when he was re-introduced to the Stamford Bridge faithful.

CB: Levi Colwill—Colwill will partner Chalobah in the middle of defense.

LB: Marc Cucurella—The Spain international has been solid all season and has found the back of the net three times in the past two months.

CM: Moisés Caicedo—Caicedo has looked slightly exhausted in recent games but his presence is essential for Maresca’s system.

CM: Enzo Fernández—Although he’s no longer scoring or assisting every game, Fernández has still been one of Chelsea’s main creators off late.

RW: Pedro Neto—Neto will get a chance to start over Noni Madueke.

AM: Cole Palmer—Palmer had a frustrating night against his former team and will look to get back on track.

LW: Jadon Sancho—Sancho will look to bag his second Chelsea assist in as many games vs. West Ham.

ST: Nicolas Jackson—Jackson aims to end a seven game scoring drought in the Premier League.

Chelsea Predicted Lineup vs. West Ham United: Premier League

Chelsea will be looking to continue their impressive form when they take on West Ham United in the Premier League this weekend. With the race for the top four heating up, every game is crucial for the Blues as they look to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Defenders: Reece James, Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, Ben Chilwell
Midfielders: N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount

  • Early spring? More winter? Here’s what Sun Prairie’s Jimmy the Groundhog predicted

SUN PRAIRIE − Jimmy the Groundhog is on a hot streak, at least in terms of his recent weather prognostications.

For the fifth time in seven years, Jimmy did not see his shadow on Groundhog Day morning, meaning he predicted an early spring Sunday at the 77th annual Sun Prairie Groundhog Prognostication in downtown Sun Prairie. Mayor Paul Esser relayed Jimmy’s prediction to the hundreds of onlookers gathered at sunrise in the Cannery Square.

Hundreds of onlookers gather at sunrise to hear Jimmy the Groundhog's weather prediction on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, in Cannery Square in downtown Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, for the 77th annual Sun Prairie Groundhog Day Prognostication event.

Hundreds of onlookers gather at sunrise to hear Jimmy the Groundhog’s weather prediction on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, in Cannery Square in downtown Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, for the 77th annual Sun Prairie Groundhog Day Prognostication event.

The prognostication event kicked off more Groundhog Day fun across the city, including the Hibernation Hustle 5K & Kids Dash in downtown, a Pancake Toss Breakfast with Jimmy the Groundhog at the Angell Park Pavilion, and a sled dog demo at Wetmore Park. The big day capped the city’s Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department’s annual five-day Frozen Fest, which featured a puzzle contest, the Groundhog Open Putt Putt Bar Crawl and a candlelit hike and bonfire at the Patrick Marsh Wildlife Area, among other activities.

While temperatures have been rising in recent days, a return to wintry weather awaits most of Wisconsin this week. According to the National Weather Service, high temperatures for Monday and Tuesday range from the low 20s further north to low 30s in the southern parts of the state, with a chance of snow or a wintry mix in store for much of Wisconsin on Wednesday and Thursday.

More: What have Jimmy the Groundhog’s predictions been in recent years?

Tim Langton is a digital planning editor for the Appleton Post-Crescent and the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

This article originally appeared on Marshfield News-Herald: Groundhog Day in Sun Prairie results: More winter, or early spring?

As we eagerly await the arrival of spring, many are wondering if the recent snowfall means more winter is on the way or if warmer weather is just around the corner. In Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, residents turn to a furry meteorologist named Jimmy the Groundhog for answers.

On February 2nd, Jimmy emerged from his burrow and did not see his shadow, indicating an early spring is on the way. This prediction is a stark contrast to Punxsutawney Phil’s forecast of six more weeks of winter.

While some may be skeptical of a groundhog’s weather forecasting abilities, Jimmy has been surprisingly accurate in the past. Residents of Sun Prairie are hopeful that Jimmy’s prediction will hold true and that warmer weather will soon be on its way.

Regardless of what the weather may bring, one thing is for certain – spring is just around the corner and we can all look forward to longer days, blooming flowers, and outdoor adventures. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Jimmy the Groundhog is right and that an early spring is on the horizon.

  • Lakers predicted to part with Dalton Knecht via trade to Jazz

The Los Angeles Lakers are unlikely to make another move before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.

However, the organization could surprise the NBA by sending a highly skilled rookie to the Utah Jazz.

“If Rob Pelinka doesn’t continue to be exceedingly stingy at putting winning players around this duo (LeBron James and Anthony Davis), they could make a massive mid-season trade,” Fadeaway World’s Ishaan Bhattacharya wrote Tuesday.

“The Utah Jazz are known to be in the market looking for deals to offload high-quality players, but only if they get a high-quality return.”

“The Lakers don’t want to match the price the Jazz are setting on some of their targets, with the hope that they come off the price.”

“Instead, the Lakers should go all-in on what the Jazz want while maximizing their return, even if it means saying goodbye to Dalton Knecht.”

Bhattacharya’s trade proposal would send Knecht, Rui Hachimura, Jalen Hood-Schifino, and two future first-round picks to the Jazz for Collin Sexton and Walker Kessler.

Entering the 2024 draft, it was clear that Knecht was the most NBA-ready prospect.

The Tennessee product’s calm demeanor in isolation situations, take-over ability late in games, astounding situational awareness, and valuable experience made him a steal for the Lakers at No. 17.

While Knecht has cooled down since his stellar November showing with the Lake Show, he continues to serve as a legitimate scoring threat for JJ Redick and the Lakers off the bench.

The 6-foot-6 wing averages 9.5 points per contest on 46% field goal shooting and 35.9% three-point shooting.

However, a trade for Kessler would give the Lakers an impactful frontcourt asset to assist Anthony Davis in the paint.

Considering Davis is dealing with an abdominal strain and could miss extended time, Kessler could be a game-changing addition to a Los Angeles squad searching for low post depth.

Time will tell if the Lakers swap Knecht for Kessler this season.

More NBA: Warriors may cut ties with Jonathan Kuminga in favor of Pacers’ $40 million star

According to recent NBA trade rumors, the Los Angeles Lakers are predicted to part ways with young forward Dalton Knecht in a trade with the Utah Jazz. Knecht, who was drafted by the Lakers in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft, has shown promise in his limited playing time but has struggled to find a consistent role on a deep Lakers roster.

The Jazz, in need of some additional frontcourt depth, are reportedly interested in acquiring Knecht to bolster their bench rotation. While Knecht has not yet had the opportunity to showcase his full potential in the NBA, the Jazz see him as a player with the potential to develop into a solid contributor in the league.

It remains to be seen what the Lakers would receive in return for Knecht in this potential trade, but it is clear that both teams see value in making a move. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation as the NBA trade deadline approaches.

  • Real Madrid Predicted Lineup vs. Espanyol: La Liga

Real Madrid are back to La Liga action and headed to Barcelona to take on a struggling Espanyol side.

Before Real Madrid can look ahead to their Champions League knockout phase playoff tie against Manchester City, they first must focus on their domestic campaign. Carlo Ancelotti’s men sit atop the La Liga standings, four points clear of Atlético Madrid, and will be eager to add three more points to their total with a victory against Espanyol.

The injured Eduardo Camavinga, Dani Carvajal and Éder Militão will not travel with the team, but Vinícius Júnior is back from suspension. The Brazilian served his two-match La Liga ban for his red card against Valencia and is now once again available for selection.

Ancelotti gets another big boost in David Alaba. The Austrian defender has made four substitute appearances since returning from his ACL Injury, but he is in line for the start on Saturday.

Here’s what Real Madrid’s XI could look like against Espanyol on Feb. 1.

GK: Thibaut Courtois—Courtois will be eager to keep Real Madrid’s third consecutive clean sheet.

RB: Lucas Vázquez—Vázquez is still Ancelotti’s first-choice right back, but do not be surprised if Raúl Asencio gets more minutes on the right flank against 18th-place Espanyol.

CB: David Alaba—All signs point to Alaba earning his first start since tearing his ACL back in Dec. 2023.

CB: Antonio Rüdiger—The 31-year-old will be pleased to have Alaba back at his side from the start of the match.

LB: Fran García—The Spaniard comes back into the lineup fully rested.

DM: Fede Valverde—Valverde continues to be Ancelotti’s most trusted midfielder.

DM: Aurélien Tchouaméni—The Frenchman is no longer needed in the backline now that Alaba is back. Tchouaméni will have to earn his spot in the midfield over Dani Ceballos.

RW: Rodrygo—Fresh off scoring another brace, the Brazilian returns to the right wing to make way for Vinícius Júnior.

AM: Jude Bellingham—The England international is the fourth player on the team to bag double-digit goals this season.

LW: Vinícius Júnior—Back from suspension, Vinícius Júnior should find plenty of success against an Espanyol backline that only has two clean sheets in its last 11 matches.

ST: Kylian Mbappé—Mbappé leads Real Madrid with 22 goals across all competitions and will look to keep the pressure on Robert Lewandowski in the Pichichi race.

  • Cowboys predicted to cut ties with $34 million quarterback this offseason

The Dallas Cowboys have hired Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach. Their roster could also experience quite a bit of turnover this offseason to go along with their coaching change.

Both of the Cowboys’ backup quarterbacks will be free agents this offseason. SB Nation’s Matthew Holleran predicted that the Cowboys would not bring back Lance.

“When the Cowboys traded for Trey Lance back in August 2023, the move made little to no sense,” wrote Holleran. “Today, the same thing rings true, and his time in Dallas has almost certainly come to an end. With all Dallas’ other needs to address this offseason, it’s hard to see them allocating even a small amount of cap space to bring back Lance and have him serve as their backup or third-string quarterback.”

Lance has not proven much and could be a rather expensive asset to sit on the bench. He signed a four-year, $34 million. deal as a rookie, but Spotrac projects him to earn just a $2 million deal this offseason. That price point does not seem that bad if Lance were to be the No. 2 quarterback, but to pay $2 million for a third-string quarterback is not the best idea.

“To make a Lance return even more unlikely, Dallas’ long-time backup quarterback, Cooper Rush, is also a free agent this offseason,” wrote Holleran. “Unless a team gives Rush a deal to let him compete for a starting spot, there’s virtually zero chance Dallas would choose to bring Lance back over the veteran. While Rush has not lit the world on fire when he filled in as the starter, he has won some games, and right or wrong, the organization has plenty of faith in his ability to steady the ship if Dak Prescott is to go down again.”

More NFL: Bears predicted to lose $80 million 6-time Pro Bowler to Bills

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly considering cutting ties with their $34 million quarterback this offseason. According to sources within the organization, the Cowboys are looking to move on from their high-priced signal-caller in order to free up salary cap space and potentially pursue other options at the position.

This news comes as a shock to many fans, as the quarterback in question has been a mainstay on the team for several years and has put up impressive numbers during his time in Dallas. However, with the team’s recent struggles and the quarterback’s hefty contract, it seems that the Cowboys are ready to make a change.

While no official announcement has been made yet, it’s clear that the Cowboys are exploring all options at the quarterback position and are prepared to make a bold move this offseason. Stay tuned for updates as this situation develops.

  • Dodgers Predicted to Trade $4.5M Reliever to Rival Astros in Blockbuster Move

The Los Angeles Dodgers have not stopped adding talent this offseason, but that comes with a few champagne problems. While there is no shortage of stars on the roster, the Dodgers don’t have enough room for all the new additions.

The Dodgers need to clear a spot for incoming reliever Kirby Yates, signifying a trade could be imminent.

More news: Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Brought Secret Weapon to Meeting With Roki Sasaki

One potential trade candidate is Ryan Brasier, who was reportedly already being shopped by the Dodgers a few weeks ago. Brasier is owed $4.5 million this season and enters his final year of team control.

Brasier, 37, joined the Dodgers in the middle of the 2023 season. He dealt with multiple injuries last season, appearing in just 29 games, but produced a 3.54 ERA in 2024.

Brasier would be a valuable asset to any team’s bullpen. Newsweek Sports’ Drew VonScio predicts the Dodgers reliever will end up with a hated rival in the Houston Astros.

The trade would send Brasier to Houston in exchange for right-hander Miguel Ullola, who was the Astros’ No. 8 prospect in 2024, and cash considerations.

More news: Former Dodgers Reliever Signs $7.75 Million Deal With AL Contender

Ullola posted a 4.24 ERA in 27 appearances for Double-A Corpus Christi in 2024. He also made one appearance in Triple-A, where he could very well begin the season pending a strong performance in spring training.

“Brasier would immediately slot in toward the back end of the bullpen along with Josh Hader and Bryan Abreu,” Vonscio wrote. “If the Astros do trade for Brasier, it would make sense for them to try and extend him while he is under team control before he enters free agency in 2026. Otherwise, they will be in this same spot this time next year.”

VonScio also mentions an interesting statistic from Brasier, making the case of why the veteran is such a strong back end arm in the bullpen.

“Posting a 5:1 K/BB ratio is among the best of the best for relievers,” VonScio wrote. “While unqualified due to a lack of innings, Baseball Savant shows his low walk rate is among the highest in baseball.”

More news: Dodgers Sign Standout Reliever to $2.25 Million Deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly in talks to trade $4.5 million reliever to their rival Houston Astros in a blockbuster move that could shake up the landscape of the MLB. According to sources close to the situation, the Dodgers are looking to strengthen their bullpen while also potentially weakening a key competitor in the American League.

This potential trade has sent shockwaves through the baseball world, as both teams are considered frontrunners in their respective divisions. The Dodgers are currently sitting atop the NL West, while the Astros are leading the AL West. A trade of this magnitude could have far-reaching implications for both teams as they gear up for a deep playoff run.

While details of the trade are still being finalized, it is clear that both teams are looking to make a significant move to bolster their chances of success in the postseason. Stay tuned for more updates as this trade continues to develop.
