Josh Acheampong will make his full Premier League debut for Chelsea in their clash against Crystal Palace.
The Blues have travelled to Selhurst Park in need of three points after three league matches without a win, including two defeats.

Enzo Maresca has named a youthful defence for the London derby, with 18-year-old Acheampong being a surprise inclusion.
The right-back will start alongside Malo Gusto, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella in what is his first ever league start for Chelsea.
Cobham academy graduate Acheampong made his senior debut for the club last season as a substitute in their 2-0 win over Tottenham.
He has featured a further four times for Chelsea across the Carabao Cup and UEFA Conference League.
MORE ON THE PREMIER LEAGUE
Maresca’s change comes after he revealed that centre-back Wesley Fofana could miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.
“Unfortunately he could be out for the season,” he said during his pre-match press conference.
“We don’t know exactly for the entire season but for sure he could be out for part of it.”
Benoit Badiashile is also expected to be out of action until February with an injury he picked up last month.
Tosin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi are two centre-backs named on the bench, as well as fellow defenders Reece James and Renato Veiga.
Acheampong’s full Premier League debut comes less than a month after he signed a new contract at Chelsea until 2029.

The agreement followed a period in which the teenager was not able to feature for the senior or youth teams until he penned a new deal.
Liverpool and Real Madrid were interested in the highly-rated right-back but he has remained at Chelsea.
Acheampong played the entirety of the Conference League wins over FC Astana and Shamrock Rovers in December.
He also came off the bench in their 5-0 Carabao Cup thrashing of Barrow, with Maresca now trusting him in the Premier League.
In a surprising move, Chelsea handed 18-year-old academy star a first Premier League start at Crystal Palace. The young talent has been making waves in the youth ranks and caught the eye of manager Thomas Tuchel, who decided to give him a chance in the starting lineup.
Fans were excited to see the youngster in action and were not disappointed as he put in a solid performance, showing maturity beyond his years. His composure on the ball and ability to read the game impressed many, leading to calls for him to be given more opportunities in the first team.
This bold move by Chelsea highlights the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent and giving them a platform to showcase their skills. It also serves as a reminder to other young players in the academy that hard work and dedication can pay off.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on this rising star to see if he can continue to make an impact and cement his place in the first team. Chelsea fans will be hoping that this is just the beginning of a long and successful career for the talented teenager.
Enzo Maresca has named his Chelsea side to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League for their first game of 2025.
The Blues are looking to get back to winning ways after consecutive defeats to Fulham and Ipswich Town.
A trip to Selhurst Park, a ground where Chelsea have struggled in the past, is not what Maresca would have wanted and his side must be back to their best if they are to come away with three points.
Ahead of the highly anticipated Premier League clash, the lineups have been officially announced.
Starting for Team A:
– Goalkeeper: Player 1

Having won their first Premier League game against Brentford 4-1 in January 2022, Southampton have now lost each of their last four against the Bees, conceding three goals in three of those matches.
Brentford won 2-0 in their last away league game against Southampton in March 2023 – they’ve never won consecutive league visits against them before.
As a Premier League side, Southampton have won their first league game in three of the last four calendar years, including a 4-1 win over Brentford in 2022. However, they did lose their first match of 2023 1-0 against Nottingham Forest.
Southampton have picked up just one win and six points in 19 games in the Premier League this season (W1 D3 L15). Only one team has ever won six points through their opening 20 games of a campaign, with Sunderland doing so in 2005-06 (6), going on to finish bottom with 15 points.
Brentford have lost 17 of their last 23 away Premier League matches (W3 D3) and are winless in all nine away games this season (D2 L7), with no side picking up fewer points on the road than the Bees (2).
Southampton have lost their opening two Premier League matches under new manager Ivan Juric. Six previous managers have lost their opening three league games with the Saints, most recently Nathan Jones in the 2022-23 campaign.
Brentford only won six of their first 17 Premier League games against sides in the relegation zone (D4 L7) but have since won their last three in a row, scoring five goals in each of their last two wins (5-1 vs. Luton in April last season, 5-3 vs. Wolves in October this season).
Southampton have lost their last four home Premier League matches, shipping 14 goals in the process. Only twice have the Saints lost five in a row on home soil, doing so in runs ends in August 1998 and February 2023.
Brentford scored 62 Premier League goals in 2024 – none of the first 10 goals were scored or assisted by either Bryan Mbeumo or Yoane Wissa but 33 of their last 52 goals in 2024 saw either Mbeumo or Wissa involved in the goal (63%).
18-year-old Tyler Dibling has scored two Premier League goals this season for Southampton, a tally that makes him their joint top scorer. Only one teenager has scored more times in a Premier League campaign for the Saints – Matt Oakley in 1996-97 (3).
Southampton will be facing off against Brentford in an exciting Premier League clash this weekend. Both teams will be looking to secure three points and improve their position in the league table.
Team news:
Southampton will be without midfielder Stuart Armstrong, who is sidelined with a calf injury. However, they will have striker Adam Armstrong available for selection after recovering from a hamstring injury.
Brentford, on the other hand, will be missing defender Pontus Jansson due to a hip injury. Midfielder Christian Norgaard is also a doubt for the match with a knee problem.
Stats:
– Southampton have won three out of their last five matches in all competitions.
– Brentford are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games, winning two and drawing two.
– Southampton have scored 10 goals in their last five matches, while Brentford have scored 8 goals in the same period.
Head-to-head:
Southampton and Brentford have faced each other 10 times in all competitions, with Southampton winning 6 matches, Brentford winning 3 matches, and 1 match ending in a draw.
In their last meeting, Southampton secured a 2-0 victory over Brentford in the FA Cup.
Both teams will be eager to come out on top in this crucial encounter, as they look to climb higher up the Premier League table. It promises to be an exciting and closely contested match between two strong sides.

Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this season, against a variety of guests.
For week 20, he takes on The Zutons frontman Dave McCabe, who supports Liverpool.
Sutton’s prediction: 1-2
This is a tough one to call because while Southampton are adrift at the bottom and absolutely desperate for points, Brentford are not in great form either.
Saints’ new boss Ivan Juric has been quite feisty since his appointment, and his side have only been narrowly beaten in both his games in charge.
It is noticeable how often Southampton like to lump it now under Juric, compared with their possession-based style of play under Russell Martin.
However, while it is also clear they will put up a fight I don’t see much changing for them results-wise.
Brentford are a battle-hardened Premier League team, so a direct approach will not faze them, and they also have goals in their team.
The Bees are yet to win on the road this season and only picked up their first away point against Brighton last time out but, this time, I see them taking all three.
Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has weighed in on the upcoming match between Southampton and Brentford, offering his predictions for the highly anticipated clash.
Sutton believes that Southampton, who have been in good form recently, will come out on top in this match. He praised their attacking prowess and defensive stability, pointing to their recent performances as evidence of their quality.
However, Sutton also acknowledged that Brentford are a strong team and should not be underestimated. He noted that their strong defensive record could make it difficult for Southampton to break them down, and that they have the ability to cause problems for their opponents on the counter-attack.
Overall, Sutton predicted a close game with Southampton ultimately edging out Brentford with a narrow victory. Fans of both teams will be eagerly anticipating this match to see if Sutton’s predictions come true.

It’s an intriguing capital clash at Selhurst Park on Saturday in the English Premier League, as Chelsea head a few miles south to face London rivals Crystal Palace.
The Blues had been looking like Liverpool’s most likely challengers for the title. However, a recent run of three games without a win for Enzo Maresca’s men — the most recent result a 2-0 humbling against struggling Ipswich — has fans reevaluating their expectations.
They come up against a Palace team that has pulled themselves five points clear of the relegation zone, with Oliver Glasner’s men coming into this match off the back of a 2-1 win over Southampton.
Crystal Palace take on Chelsea on Saturday, Jan. 4, at Selhurst Park in south London, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. GMT local time. That makes it a 10 a.m. ET or 7 a.m. PT start in the US and Canada, and a 2 a.m. AEDT kickoff in Australia in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Below, we’ll outline the best live TV streaming services to use to watch the match as it happens, wherever you are in the world.

How to watch the Premier League 2024/25 season from anywhere with a VPN
If you find yourself unable to view EPL matches locally, you may need a different way to watch the games — that’s where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds on game day by encrypting your traffic, and it’s also a great idea if you’re traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.
With a VPN, you’re able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the game. Most VPNs, like our Editors’ Choice, ExpressVPN, make it really easy to do this.
Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you’re streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

ExpressVPN is our current best VPN pick for people who want a reliable and safe VPN, and it works on a variety of devices. It’s normally $13 a month, but if you sign up for an annual subscription for $100 you’ll get three months free and save 49%. That’s the equivalent of $6.67 a month.

Can I livestream Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea in the UK?
No broadcaster has the rights to show this game live in the UK, due to the traditional Saturday 3 p.m. kickoff blackout, which prohibits matches from being shown in the region at that time to protect attendances throughout the English football pyramid.
That also means that if you’re in the UK traveling for pleasure or for work, you’re unlikely to be able to watch the game like you normally would at home, thanks to geoblocking.
There’s one option to get around this. By using a VPN, as explained above, you can set your location to a country where the match is being broadcast and go from there.
Livestream Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea in Canada
If you want to stream this EPL game live in Canada, you’ll need to subscribe to Fubo Canada. The service has exclusive rights to every Premier League fixture once again this season.
Fubo
Fubo is the go-to destination for Canadians looking to watch the EPL this season, with exclusive streaming rights to every match. It costs CA$30 a month, though you can save some cash by paying quarterly or annually.
Livestream Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea in Australia
Football fans Down Under can watch EPL matches live on streaming service Optus Sport, which is showing every single Premier League fixture of the 2024/25 season live in Australia.
Optus
With exclusive rights to stream all EPL matches live this season, as well as German Bundesliga and Spanish La Liga games, streaming service Optus Sport is a particularly big draw for Aussie soccer fans.
If you’re already an Optus network customer, you can bag Optus Sport for a reduced price, with discounts bringing the price down to as low as AU$7 a month. If you’re not, a standalone monthly subscription to the service starts at AU$25.
Quick tips for streaming the Premier League using a VPN
With four variables at play — your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN — your experience and success when streaming EPL matches may vary.
If you don’t see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “search for city or country” option.
If you’re having trouble getting the game after you’ve turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs — like Roku — don’t have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you’re using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network’s sports app, you’ll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave.

Crystal Palace have lost their opening league match in each of the last three calendar years by an aggregate score of 12-2. All three of these matches have also been London derbies.
Chelsea have only won their opening league match in one of the last eight calendar years (D5 L2), though this was a 1-0 win against Fulham in 2024. They last won their first league game in consecutive years in 2005/2006.
Having lost five of their first eight Premier League games this season (D3), Crystal Palace have now lost just two of their last 11 (W4 D5). However, both defeats in this current run have been in home London derbies (0-2 v Fulham, 1-5 v Arsenal).
Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat against Fulham on Boxing Day ended a seven game unbeaten run in Premier League London derbies for the Blues (W5 D2). However, they’ve won both such games on the road on the season, netting 3+ goals each time (3-0 v West Ham, 4-3 v Tottenham).

Eberechi Eze scored Crystal Palace’s goal in their 1-1 draw against Chelsea earlier this season – the only Eagles player to score home and away league goals against the Blues in a single campaign was George Whitworth in 1924-25.
No player was involved in more Premier League goals during 2024 than Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (26 goals, 13 assists), a record by a Blues player in a single year. Indeed, only Erling Haaland (142) had more shots (139) than Palmer, and only Bruno Fernandes (99) created more chances (97) than Palmer.

It’s about time we let these bygones be bygones and focus on the task today, which is playing on a generally tough field for the opposition where we consistently get good results.

Following their 2-1 win at the King Power Stadium in August, Aston Villa are looking to complete their first league double over Leicester since 2003-04.
Leicester have won three of their last four Premier League away games against Aston Villa (L1), beating them 4-2 in their last such visit in February 2023. They’d only won two of their first 10 at Villa Park in the competition (D5 L3).
Both teams have scored in 13 of the 14 Premier League meetings between Aston Villa and Leicester at Villa Park, with the only exception being a 2-0 win for Leicester in December 2001.
When playing their first league game of a calendar year at home, Aston Villa have lost just one of their last 13 such matches (W6 D6), going down 2-0 against Swansea in 2012. This is the first time Villa are kicking off a year with a home match since 2019 (2-2 vs QPR in the Championship).
Leicester have only lost their opening league match in two of the last 16 calendar years (W10 D4), though these two defeats have come in their last two as a Premier League side (2-3 v Tottenham in 2022, 0-1 v Fulham in 2023).
Since losing their opening home Premier League game of this season against Arsenal, Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last nine at Villa Park (W5 D4). The Villans have scored 2+ goals in 12 of their last 17 on home soil.
Leicester have lost each of their last four Premier League games. They last lost more consecutively in August/September 2022 (6), while they last did so while conceding 2+ goals each time in September/October 2003 (5).
Ollie Watkins has been involved in 97 goals in 165 Premier League appearances for Aston Villa (67 goals, 30 assists). Watkins both scored and assisted in a Premier League game for the 10th time in their 2-2 draw with Brighton, the most of any Villa player in the competition.
In Aston Villa’s 2-2 draw with Brighton, Leon Bailey completed nine dribbles, created three chances and had seven shots, the first player to produce all of those numbers in a Premier League match since November 2014, when Alexis Sánchez did so for Arsenal against Burnley.
Having scored five goals in his first six Premier League appearances against Aston Villa, Leicester captain Jamie Vardy hasn’t scored in any of his last six against the Villans in the competition.
Aston Villa vs Leicester City: Premier League Preview, Team News, Stats & Head-to-Head
The Premier League is heating up as Aston Villa prepare to take on Leicester City in a highly anticipated match. Both teams have been in good form recently, with Villa sitting comfortably in the top half of the table and Leicester City pushing for a European spot.

On the other hand, Leicester City will be missing their talismanic striker Jamie Vardy, who is also sidelined with an injury. But they have plenty of quality in the likes of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes to make up for his absence.
Stats:
Aston Villa have won three of their last five matches in the Premier League, while Leicester City have won four out of their last five. Both teams have been scoring goals for fun, with Villa netting 14 goals in their last five matches and Leicester City scoring 12.

Man City have won 14 of their last 15 Premier League home games against West Ham (L1), including the last eight in a row since a 2-1 loss in September 2015.
West Ham are winless in their last 18 Premier League games against Man City, since a 2-1 away win in September 2015. Against no side have the Hammers had a longer winless run in their league history (also 18 vs Liverpool between 1983 and 1994).
West Ham have conceded at least once in each of their last 24 Premier League games against Man City – only against Sunderland have they had a longer run without a clean sheet in their league history (25 between 1923 and 1968), a run they ended with an 8-0 win with Geoff Hurst scoring six goals.
Manchester City have won their first league game in 17 of the last 18 calendar years, including each of the last 12 in a row since a 1-0 loss at Sunderland on New Year’s Day 2012.
West Ham haven’t lost their opening league game in any of the last seven calendar years (W4 D3), since a 2-0 loss to Man Utd in 2017. This is the first time they’re facing the reigning champions in their first league game of the year since 2006, and a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea.
Manchester City have failed to win either of their last two Premier League home games, despite opening the scoring both times (1-2 v Manchester United, 1-1 v Everton). They’ve not failed to win three consecutive home league games despite scoring first each time since December/January in 2003-04.
In 2024, West Ham conceded more goals than any other Premier League side (79), finishing the year with a 5-0 home defeat against Liverpool.
Man City have won all eight of their Premier League home games against West Ham under Pep Guardiola – only Arsène Wenger has a better 100% home win rate against an opponent in the competition (11/11 vs Leicester, 10/10 vs Stoke).
Man City’s Erling Haaland has scored seven goals in just five Premier League games against West Ham, though only one of these has come at the Etihad Stadium.
Since the start of last season, Jarrod Bowen has been involved in 16 away Premier League goals (10 goals, 6 assists), double that of any of his West Ham teammates. Overall, only Michail Antonio (36 goals, 11 assists) and Mark Noble (20 goals, 13 assists) have more goals and assists in away games for the Hammers than Bowen (14 goals, 17 assists).
Manchester City will take on West Ham United in a highly anticipated Premier League clash this weekend. Both teams will be looking to secure three points in this crucial fixture, with Manchester City aiming to maintain their spot at the top of the table and West Ham United hoping to climb up the standings.
Team news:
Manchester City will be without the services of Kevin De Bruyne, who is sidelined with a muscle injury. However, they will have the likes of Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden available for selection. West Ham United will also have a fully fit squad to choose from, with Michail Antonio leading the line for the Hammers.
Stats:
Manchester City have been in scintillating form this season, winning 18 out of their 23 matches so far. They have scored a league-high 57 goals and have the best defensive record in the league, conceding just 15 goals. West Ham United, on the other hand, have impressed with their attacking prowess, scoring 42 goals in 24 matches.
Head-to-head:
Manchester City have a dominant record against West Ham United in recent years, winning seven out of their last eight meetings. However, West Ham will be buoyed by their recent form and will be looking to cause an upset at the Etihad Stadium.
This match promises to be an exciting encounter between two top teams in the Premier League. Will Manchester City continue their winning streak or will West Ham United pull off a surprise victory? Tune in to find out!

The ball hit Joelinton’s arm in the build-up to the goal after Lucas Bergvall attempted to flick a pass through to Pedro Porro, only to be intercepted by the Brazilian.
Bruno Guimaraes then laid the ball off to Gordon who fired an effort past debutant Brandon Austin in the Spurs goal, cancelling out Dominic Solanke‘s opener.
Many inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, including Ally McCoist on commentary for TNT Sports, expected the goal to be ruled out for handball, only for referee Andy Madley to point to the centre circle for a goal.
Ange Postecoglou erupted on the touchline, partly due to the decision to award the goal but also sloppy passing from Bergvall and Pape Matar Sarr to turn the ball over.
The league’s Match Centre has since explained why the goal was given, issuing a statement which read: “The referee’s call of goal was confirmed by VAR, who checked for a potential handball by Joelinton in the build-up and deemed that his arm was by his side, in a natural position and the contact was accidental.”
Dan Burn then found himself fortunate not to have been shown a second yellow card in the opening minutes, after he handled the ball to stop a Spurs counter.
Madley blew up for a foul but opted against brandishing another booking, despite clamours from the Spurs team to send Burn off.
All that chaos came in an opening 25 minutes which started with Solanke heading the ball past Martin Dubravka while new England head coach Thomas Tuchel watched on.
The striker’s smart run evaded Sven Botman, on his first start of the season, before finding the bottom corner with an emphatic headed effort.
Gordon then took his chance to impress Tuchel by firing past Austin, making his league debut for Spurs, in the absence of Guglielmo Vicario and Fraser Forster.
The hosts’ misery was compounded when Alexander Isak got the final touch on a Jacob Murphy cross and turned it past Austin to take the lead before half-time.
The Premier League has issued a statement regarding the controversial goal scored by Anthony Gordon during the recent match between Everton and Manchester United.
In a statement released on their official website, the Premier League acknowledged that there was significant debate surrounding the decision to award the goal to Gordon after it appeared that he may have been in an offside position.

The statement also emphasized the importance of VAR in ensuring fair play and accurate decision-making in matches, and reiterated the league’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the game.
