Premier League Predictions and best bets: Ravenous Liverpool to feast on West Ham | Football News

Our football betting expert Jones Knows is back to provide more Premier League insight and sees unstoppable Liverpool thumping West Ham on Sunday.

Leicester vs Manchester City, Sunday 2.30pm, live on Sky Sports – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

    Leicester City vs Manchester City

How bad must Leicester be if Manchester City are going off 1/3 with Sky Bet for the win despite winning just once in their last 13 games?

Also, since the start of November, Pep Guardiola’s men have conceded 26 goals in all competitions – in that time, the only side from Europe’s big-five leagues to concede more is FC Heidenheim 1846 (28). It is astonishing.

Yet punters still are happy to back them to win football matches at heavy odds-on it seems.

I can leave them alone even if Leicester have faced the most shots, shots on target and conceded the most goals since December 3, which was Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first game in charge.

He’s made little impact – in fact, they might be becoming easier to score against.

From a betting point of view, though, you just have to keep betting against this City defence keeping a clean sheet and Leicester have scored in all but one of their 10 home matches this season. Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals should land at 4/5 with Sky Bet.

    SCORE PREDICTION: 2-2

Crystal Palace vs Southampton, Sunday 3pm – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

Ivan Juric obviously likes what he sees from striker Paul Onuachu.

Although he’s yet to score for the club, the entire game plan in attack revolved around the target man in the unfortunate defeat to West Ham. “Long ball, keep the ball, the head is strong,” Juric said of Onuachu, who had eight shots in Juric’s opening game as Saints got the ball into him quickly.

It will surely be a rinse and repeat job stylistically of playing into Onuachu, meaning his shots lines at 5/6 for two or more have great potential as a best bet.

SCORE PREDICTION: 2-1 | JONES KNOWS’ BEST BET: Paul Onuachu two or more shots (5/6 with Sky Bet)

Everton vs Nottingham Forest, Sunday 3pm – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

When duos click in sport, it can lead to legendary results. Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent and Bryony Frost and Frodon.

Well, Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo are quickly entering those realms of greatness.

There isn’t a better centre-back pairing in the Premier League.

The chemistry, organisation and ability to defend their box playing in Nuno Espirito Santo’s deep defensive block is quickly becoming one of the stories of the season. They are leading Forest into uncharted waters – a European charge is very much on.

Murillo, in particular, is set for the very top based on his performances of late.

Murillo spoke exclusively to Sky Sports
    Image:
Murillo can lead Forest to another win to nil at 7/2

From eight games against teams in the bottom half this season, Forest have conceded just two goals, keeping six clean sheets in those games to a backdrop of 0.78 expected goals against per 90. Savage numbers.

Everton are one of the tamest attacks in the Premier League, failing to score in six of their last eight games so the Milenkovic and Murillo masterclass should be backed to grab another clean sheet. A Forest win to nil at 7/2 with Sky Bet is a huge price.

SCORE PREDICTION: 0-1 | JONES KNOWS’ BEST BET: Nottingham Forest to win to nil (7/2 with Sky Bet)

Fulham vs Bournemouth, Sunday 3pm – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

You’d have been laughed out of town in pre-season to suggest that these two clubs would have Man City sandwiched between them in the Premier League table after 18 games. But this season is working in strange ways to the extent that both Fulham and Bournemouth have realistic hopes of a top-six finish considering their advantage with only playing once a week over rivals like Aston Villa and Man City.

Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player

Highlights from the Premier League match between Chelsea and Fulham

This encounter is the toughest game of the lot this week from a prediction point of view. Play the game 99 times and you could get 33 Fulham wins, 33 draws and 33 away wins. On that basis, Bournemouth probably are the shade of value at 15/8 with Sky Bet but it’s not a game with much betting potential.

    SCORE PREDICTION: 1-2

Tottenham vs Wolves, Sunday 3pm – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

If you fancy Tottenham, there is huge value in taking them to win on the handicap rather than just backing the 8/13 with Sky Bet for the home win. That price does look tight considering this Spurs team have won just three of their last 15 Premier League games. But under Ange Postecoglou, when Spurs win their style means they win by a big margin.

All their last eight Premier League wins have seen them prevail by two or more goals and, remarkably, seven of those wins have come with a three or more margin of victory.

And although they’ve found a manager bounce, this Wolves defence is prone to a collapse – they have conceded an average of 2.04 goals in 2024 – the worst record of any ever-present Premier League team. Spurs to win by three or more goals, or -2 on the handicap, is the way to play at 7/2 with Sky Bet.

    SCORE PREDICTION: 4-1

West Ham vs Liverpool, Sunday 5.15pm, live on Sky Sports – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

    West Ham vs Liverpool

If West Ham turn up in the same welcoming mood as they did against Southampton, then Liverpool are going to feast.

The Hammers conceded three big chances in the first half to the league’s worst team in Saints and then basically made the game a non-event in the second half to grind out the 1-0 win.

It was another mind-numbing and decisively dull performance from Julen Lopetegui’s men. In this current guise they’re the team I’d least like to watch in the Premier League.

Thankfully for entertainment purposes, Liverpool are ravenous and purring beautifully in attack, scoring two or more goals in their last 10 Premier League games with 27 goals plundered in total.

There shouldn’t be many problems for them here with the Evens with Sky Bet on them covering the -1 handicap looking very tasty. This title is theirs to lose.

SCORE PREDICTION: 0-4 | JONES KNOWS’ BEST BET: Liverpool -1 handicap (Evens with Sky Bet)

Aston Villa vs Brighton, Monday 7.45pm

Backing Brighton as outsiders makes sense in these sorts of games. The type of forward they like to recruit tends to flourish when playing in transition but struggle when tasked with breaking down a low block. To score just one goal from 67 shots this season in home games against Brentford, Southampton and Ipswich tells you all you need to know about how flaky the Brighton forwards are when it comes to finishing.

Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player

Highlights from the Premier League match between Brighton and Brentford

However, despite now going six games without a win, Fabian Hurzeler’s team have beaten Bournemouth, Man City, Newcastle, Tottenham, Man Utd and drawn with Arsenal this season where opposition teams offer them more space to play. At 5/6 with Sky Bet, they are one of the best bets of the card on the double chance at Villa Park.

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-2 | JONES KNOWS’ BEST BET: Brighton double chance (5/6 with Sky Bet)

    Ipswich vs Chelsea, Monday 7.45pm

Ipswich have now lost five of their last six games – only Southampton (2) have fewer points over that period. It’s becoming rather bleak for them.

Confidence looks shot in the final third with the free-flowing, flexible attacking patterns that we saw rip up the Sky Bet Championship last season a distant memory. They’ve scored just two or more goals in four of their 18 games this season, blanking in four of their last six. Omari Hutchinson’s form has completely dipped while Liam Delap is now feeding off scraps.

A Chelsea win to nil at 7/4 with Sky Bet looks a nice way to boost the outright away win price.

    SCORE PREDICTION: 0-2

Manchester United vs Newcastle, Monday 8pm, live on Sky Sports

    Manchester United vs Newcastle United

I’m swimming against the tide here and remain quite positive on Manchester United’s prospects under this manager, especially from a defensive point of view. The structure and organisation is so much more secure than under Erik ten Hag and may just lead to positive results when confidence returns and Bruno Fernandes stops getting sent off.

The expected goals data does suggest Ruben Amorim’s influence is already stabilising them slightly, albeit the results make that hard to believe.

The market has moved too much towards the untrustworthy Toon here who have only won three on the road in their last 10 games in all competitions and were beaten 3-2 by Ten Hag’s side last season at Old Trafford. I’ll put my crash helmet on and advise Man Utd on the draw no bet at 10/11 with Sky Bet with no confidence whatsoever purely based on the price.

    SCORE PREDICTION: 1-1

    Brentford vs Arsenal, Wednesday 5.30pm

Thomas Frank lost two more key members of his Brentford back line to take their total number of injured players to 11 in the dogged draw at Brighton. Such depletion is going to bite sooner or later and this could be where that tide turns.

Arsenal, without grabbing many plaudits, do seem to have their game-heads on again in terms of winning games. Declan Rice’s return to form may have something to do with that – he’s looked more himself in the last few weeks and is carrying a big goalscoring threat from midfield.

Declan Rice celebrates scoring Arsenal's fifth with Riccardo Calafiori
    Image:
Declan Rice is 18/1 to score first with Sky Bet

He netted in the win at Palace and went close with two strikes in the comfortable 1-0 win over Ipswich. The 18/1 on him to score first with Sky Bet is too big. Back it.

SCORE PREDICTION: 0-3 | JONES KNOWS’ BEST BET: Declan Rice to score first (18/1 with Sky Bet)

Premier League Predictions and best bets: Ravenous Liverpool to feast on West Ham

Liverpool are set to take on West Ham in a crucial Premier League clash this weekend, and all eyes will be on the Reds as they look to continue their impressive form. Jurgen Klopp’s men have been in scintillating form this season, and they will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run against a resurgent West Ham side.

Liverpool are currently sitting pretty at the top of the table, with a commanding lead over their rivals. They have been in brilliant form in recent weeks, and they will be confident of securing all three points against West Ham. The Reds have a formidable attack, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino all in top form.

West Ham, on the other hand, have been a surprise package this season. David Moyes’ side have exceeded expectations and are currently sitting in a respectable position in the table. The Hammers have been solid at the back and have also been scoring goals, making them a dangerous opponent for any team.

However, Liverpool’s attacking prowess and defensive solidity make them the favorites in this clash. The Reds have been relentless in front of goal and have been able to break down even the most stubborn defenses. West Ham will have their work cut out for them if they are to contain Liverpool’s potent attack.

In terms of betting, Liverpool are the clear favorites to win this game. However, for those looking for more value, backing Liverpool to win with over 2.5 goals in the game could be a good bet. With Liverpool’s attacking firepower and West Ham’s vulnerability at the back, there is a good chance that this game will see plenty of goals.

Overall, Liverpool are expected to come out on top in this clash and continue their march towards the Premier League title. West Ham will put up a fight, but ultimately, the Reds should prove too strong for them. Expect a high-scoring game with Liverpool emerging as the winners.

Best bet: Liverpool to win with over 2.5 goals in the game.

  • Fantasy Premier League GW19 preview: Targeting Newcastle players and holding on to Haaland

Fantasy Premier League GW19 preview: Targeting Newcastle players and holding on to Haaland

There is a quick turnaround for Gameweek 19 because we go again on Sunday with another Fantasy Premier League deadline.

As expected during this busy festive period, there were some surprise benchings and withdrawals from the usual starting XIs in Gameweek 18. And we might well see more rotation coming up — which is why it is important to be even more vigilant at this time of year.

Here we’ll preview Gameweek 19 and give you all the important information you need for the upcoming gameweek.

Eddie Howe’s team have won their last three games and scored 16 in the previous five. Alexander Isak (£9.1m) has bagged seven goals and two assists in the past five and is the second-highest-scoring forward in the game, surpassing Erling Haaland (£14.8m).

Newcastle play Manchester United away next but I would not let that put you off getting the Swede into your team. He is nailed to start, on penalties and is one of the best forwards in the league. After their visit to Old Trafford this weekend. Newcastle then play Spurs (A), Wolves (H), Bournemouth (H), Southampton (A) and Fulham (H).

Anthony Gordon (£7.3m) and Lewis Hall (£4.7m) are great buys too. Gordon has a goal and two assists in the past three, and Hall is great value at his price. He has been one of the most attacking defenders in the league and will pick up assists. He already has three.

How to deal with Man City’s issues?

We have to talk about Manchester City… again. Their drop-off this season has been quite astonishing — and more so Haaland’s.

In their past nine games, they have lost seven and have only one win. The Norwegian has two goals in that time and even had a penalty saved against Everton.

However, if you still have him, I think it isn’t a bad idea to keep him for the next two at least. Manchester City play Leicester City (A) and West Ham (H) next and he will be a huge differential now.

Paying £14.8m for his returns is nowhere near worth it but if you can hold off for another few weeks, it might pay off. He is the only City player there is value in holding. If you own any of their other assets, especially the defence, I would look to offload as soon as you can.

    Players to watch

Jhon Duran (£5.9m) was sent off for violent conduct against Newcastle, which means he will miss three games (although one will be the club’s FA Cup tie with West Ham United) after Aston Villa’s appeal failed.

Ollie Watkins (£8.8m) has started on the bench in the past four games but should be back on the pitch in Duran’s absence. He could be a great differential if you are looking for a forward. Villa play Brighton (H) and Leicester (H) while Duran is suspended.

I would also be looking at Crystal Palace players. Gameweek 19 is a great entry point for them because they host Southampton and they have solid fixtures for a while. They also play Leicester (A), West Ham (A), Brentford (H), Everton (H), Villa (H) and Ipswich (H) over the next 10.

Watkins could be a good differential (Malcolm Couzens/Getty Images)

Daniel Munoz (£4.7m), Ismaila Sarr (£5.8m) and Jean-Philippe Mateta (£7.2m) are all great options to invest in this gameweek. It’s worth noting Eberechi Eze (£6.6m) played 87 minutes but I would want to see at least one more game from him before I look to buy.

Despite Spurs’ poor form, I think Dominic Solanke (£7.5m) is a worthwhile buy this gameweek if you are looking for a forward.

He has six goals and five assists and although he hasn’t been explosive, he has been ticking along. The former Bournemouth forward is a nailed-on 90-minute player, which is exactly what we need at this time of the season.

Spurs play Wolves (H), Newcastle (H), Everton (A), Leicester (H), Brentford (A) and Ipswich (A) over the next eight. He is a reliable option who should score well over this run.

    Beware of suspensions

There were quite a few players who received their fifth booking of season over the Boxing Day round of games, which means they will miss their next match. Justin Kluivert (£5.5m), Marc Guehi (£4.5m), Matty Cash (£4.4m) and Dominik Szoboszlai (£6.3m) were the notable players who will have the weekend off.

How Antonee Robinson became the best left-back in the Premier League

Some notable players who are on four yellow cards and will miss their next game if they get booked are: Nicolas Jackson (£8.3m), Robert Sanchez (£4.8m), Jurrien Timber (£5.7m), Lewis Dunk (£4.4m), Antonee Robinson (£4.9m), Jan Paul van Hecke (£4.5m), Morgan Rogers (£5.4m), Gabriel Jesus (£6.8m), Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.8m), James Maddison (£7.7m) and Morgan Gibbs-White (£6.3m).

    go-deeper

    GO DEEPER

Which Premier League players are at risk of a yellow card suspension?

You might want to consider this if you are planning on transferring any of them in. Also, if you still own Matheus Cunha (£7.1m) then you are best holding on to him for another gameweek. It’s likely he will serve a ban soon but it seems unlikely it will be before the Spurs game.

If you own Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m) and have adequate bench cover for him this week, I don’t think he is worth a transfer out. Manchester United have been poor but he is still churning out points, and from Gameweek 21 they have some good fixtures coming up. United play Southampton (H), Brighton (H), Fulham (A), Palace (H) and Spurs (A) – after they face Liverpool at Anfield on January 5.

As we head into Gameweek 19 of the Fantasy Premier League, there are some key players to keep an eye on and others that you may want to hold onto despite recent struggles. One team that could provide some value in the coming weeks is Newcastle, who have a favorable run of fixtures ahead.

Newcastle have been in decent form recently, picking up wins against the likes of Burnley and Norwich. With upcoming matches against the likes of Everton, Southampton, and Watford, the Magpies could provide some points for FPL managers looking for differential picks. Players like Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Joe Willock could be worth considering for your team.

On the other hand, one player you may want to hold onto despite recent struggles is Erling Haaland. The Borussia Dortmund striker has been in sensational form this season, scoring 18 goals in 16 Bundesliga appearances. With rumors swirling about a potential move to the Premier League in January, Haaland could be a key player to have in your FPL team as he looks to impress potential suitors.

As always, it’s important to keep an eye on injury news and form heading into Gameweek 19. By targeting Newcastle players and holding onto Haaland, you could give yourself a competitive edge in the coming weeks. Good luck with your FPL teams!

    Key events

Kieran McKenna talks to Amazon Prime. “Ben Johnson is a versatile player … there will be phases when we defend as a back five … sometimes a back four … it will be a tough night but hopefully a good night … the reaction [to the 4-0 defeat against Newcastle] has been really good at the training ground … the game got away from us … the first in a while … it’s a new game and a new challenge … we want to take it head on … we have to maintain our culture … we have to adapt and be competitive … it’s been a big journey for our players … last time we fell short, tonight we can go again … we’ve analysed Arsenal as well as we can … we’ll have to see off a lot of set plays.”

Arsenal make two changes to their starting XI after the 5-1 win at Palace. Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard are in; Thomas Partey drops to the bench while Bukayo Saka is hamstrung.

Ipswich make five changes after their 4-0 home loss to Newcastle. Liam Delap, Kalvin Phillips, Ben Johnson, Luke Woolfenden and Jacob Greaves take the places of Harry Clarke, Wes Burns and Conor Chaplin, who are benched, and Cameron Burgess and captain Sam Morsy, who miss out altogether.

    The teams

Arsenal: Raya, Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly, Odegaard, Rice, Havertz, Trossard, Gabriel Jesus, Martinelli.

    Preamble

There’s no need to be overly dramatic. Title-chasing Arsenal may be nine points behind current leaders Liverpool, but both teams still have 21 matches to play, so nobody is in must-win territory yet. Having said that, Mikel Arteta’s side won’t feel too chipper about themselves if they don’t claim all three points this evening, coming off the back of a 5-1 win at Crystal Palace, and playing a team who have just been thumped 4-0 at home by Newcastle. Arsenal – who are unbeaten at home this season – are 7-1 on tonight, while you can get Ipswich – who haven’t won this fixture since 1979, the days of Arnold Muhren, Mick Mills and Bobby Robson – at 20s. So this looks a shoo-in. Then again, you never know in the Premier League, and Ipswich may be in fast-and-loose mode, viewing this game as a free hit in their quest to extricate themselves from relegation danger. We’ll find out soon enough. Kick-off is at 8.15pm GMT. It’s on!

Welcome to the live coverage of the Premier League match between Arsenal and Ipswich! The Gunners are facing off against the Tractor Boys in what promises to be an exciting clash at the Emirates Stadium.

  • Brighton & Hove Albion vs Brentford: Premier League preview, team news, stats & head-to-head

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Brentford: Premier League preview, team news, stats & head-to-head

Brighton & Hove Albion will assess midfielder Mats Wieffer, who was substituted because of a thigh problem shortly after scoring against West Ham on Saturday.

Jan Paul van Hecke suffered a cut to the head during that game but is expected to be available, while Adam Webster and Solly March are back in full training after lengthy absences.

Brentford’s Kristoffer Ajer faces several weeks on the sidelines again after hurting his ankle against Nottingham Forest.

Mads Roerslev is fit but this match comes too soon for Sepp van den Berg and Mathias Jensen.

Defender Ethan Pinnock also remains out with a hamstring injury.

Brighton & Hove Albion will square off against Brentford in a highly anticipated Premier League clash. Both teams will be looking to secure a crucial win as they aim to climb up the table and avoid relegation.

    Team news:

Brighton & Hove Albion will be without the services of key players such as Lewis Dunk and Tariq Lamptey due to injury. However, they will be boosted by the return of Adam Lallana and Danny Welbeck, who are both expected to feature in the match.

Brentford, on the other hand, will be missing the likes of Christian Norgaard and Bryan Mbeumo due to injury. However, they will be looking to rely on top scorer Ivan Toney to provide the goals and lead them to victory.

    Stats:

Brighton & Hove Albion have struggled to find consistent form this season and currently sit near the bottom of the table. They have only won one of their last five matches and will be hoping to turn things around with a positive result against Brentford.

Brentford, on the other hand, have been impressive in their debut season in the Premier League. They have shown resilience and determination in their performances and will be looking to continue their good run of form against Brighton.

    Head-to-head:

Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford have faced each other on 15 occasions in the past, with Brighton winning 7 matches and Brentford winning 5. The two teams have also drawn 3 times.

In their last meeting earlier this season, Brighton emerged as 1-0 winners thanks to a late goal from Neal Maupay. Brentford will be looking to avenge that defeat and secure a vital three points in their bid for survival.

Overall, this promises to be an exciting and closely contested match between two teams fighting for their Premier League lives. Tune in to see who comes out on top in this crucial encounter.
