Cybersecurity Best Practices: Tips for Safeguarding Your Online Presence
In today’s digital age, cybersecurity is more important than ever. With the increasing amount of personal and sensitive information being stored online, it’s crucial to take steps to safeguard your online presence. Here are some cybersecurity best practices to help protect yourself from potential cyber threats.1. Use strong, unique passwords: One of the simplest ways to enhance your online security is to use strong, unique passwords for each of your accounts. Avoid using easily guessable passwords like “123456” or “password,” and consider using a password manager to help you generate and store complex passwords.
2. Enable two-factor authentication: Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your accounts by requiring you to provide an additional piece of information – usually a code sent to your phone – in addition to your password. This can help prevent unauthorized access to your accounts even if your password is compromised.
3. Keep your software updated: Software updates often include security patches that address vulnerabilities that could be exploited by cybercriminals. Make sure to regularly update your operating system, applications, and antivirus software to keep your devices secure.
4. Be cautious of phishing attempts: Phishing is a common tactic used by cybercriminals to trick individuals into providing sensitive information or downloading malicious software. Be wary of emails, messages, or websites that ask for personal information or contain suspicious links, and always verify the sender’s identity before clicking on any links.
5. Secure your Wi-Fi network: Secure your home Wi-Fi network by enabling encryption, changing the default password, and hiding the network name (SSID). This can help prevent unauthorized access to your network and protect your devices from potential cyber threats.
6. Limit the information you share online: Be mindful of the information you share on social media and other online platforms. Avoid posting sensitive information like your full name, address, phone number, or financial details, as this information could be used by cybercriminals to target you.
7. Back up your data regularly: Regularly backing up your data can help protect you from data loss in the event of a cyber attack or hardware failure. Consider using cloud storage or an external hard drive to store backups of your important files and documents.
By following these cybersecurity best practices, you can help safeguard your online presence and protect yourself from potential cyber threats. Remember to stay vigilant and proactive in managing your online security to ensure your personal information remains safe and secure.
‘Presence’ Review: Paranormal Friend or Foe?
The tightly constructed story unfolds chronologically in scenes of varying length that end and begin abruptly, and are separated by a few seconds of black. As time passes and periodically leaps forward — one minute, the house is empty, the next it’s inhabited — the other family members come into focus, including the hard-charging mother, Rebekah (Lucy Liu) and the affable father, Chris (Chris Sullivan). They’re clearly not happy and one reason may be Rebekah’s squirmy devotion to their son, Tyler (Eddy Maday), a star high-school athlete whose arrogance can edge into cruelty. Chris, in turn, dotes on Chloe, a weepy, sensitive girl who has endured a trauma that is already haunting her and her family before they move in.
Chloe’s past, her parents’ marriage and the ghost’s restricted point of view together create palpable unease that the filmmakers build on until everyone is vibrating with tension and things have gotten weird. Although there are a few haunted-house shocks, the cumulative effect is more unsettling than scary.
To a degree, the movie is an elaborate storytelling exercise for Soderbergh, but it’s one with stakes and characters who, as real feeling creeps into the movie, you grow to care for. One of the more impressive things about Soderbergh’s work here is that he — aided by a characteristically strong cast that includes the actor West Mulholland as Tyler’s friend Ryan — makes you hope everyone makes it out OK.
That includes the ghost, which may be otherworldly but turns out to be strangely relatable. Mainstream narrative movies tether you to stories with strategies and techniques that — much like the ghost here — gives you a close, privileged angle on what’s happening. It’s rare, though, for a movie to be shot exclusively or largely through a protagonist’s point of view, and few do it successfully. (A recent outlier is RaMell Ross’s “Nickel Boys.”) In the 1947 film noir “Lady in the Lake,” you mostly see what the protagonist sees, including parts of his body (and his reflection), which can make it seem like he has a camera instead of a head. Soderbergh’s ghost-camera, by contrast, grows progressively and touchingly human.
Ghosts have haunted cinema since the beginning, with some early viewers comparing onscreen people to apparitions. In the years since, other ghosts, including earlier filmmakers, have haunted our screens: Hitchcock looms over much of Brian De Palma’s work like a specter. For his part, Soderbergh, one of the most restlessly inventive filmmakers working today, seems haunted by all of cinema, though there’s another uncanny, well, presence, in this movie. Here as before, he both shot and cut the movie but used two pseudonyms borrowed from his life, Peter Andrews (Soderbergh’s father) and Mary Ann Bernard (his mother). It’s no wonder that “Presence” feels so personal — he’s brought his own ghosts to this party.
Presence
Rated R for violence, ghostly and otherwise. Running time: 1 hour 25 minutes. In theaters.
Have you ever felt a strange presence in your home? Maybe a cold breeze on a hot summer day, or the feeling of someone watching you when you’re alone? In the new thriller film “Presence,” these eerie occurrences take center stage as a young woman is plagued by a mysterious entity that seems to have sinister intentions. The film follows Emily, a young woman who moves into a new apartment and quickly starts experiencing strange phenomena. Doors slam shut on their own, objects move mysteriously, and a dark figure seems to be lurking in the shadows. As Emily tries to unravel the mystery behind these occurrences, she realizes that the presence in her home may be more than just a benign spirit.
“Presence” is a gripping and suspenseful film that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The tension builds as Emily delves deeper into the history of her apartment, uncovering dark secrets that may explain the malevolent force haunting her. The film expertly blends supernatural elements with psychological horror, creating a chilling atmosphere that will leave audiences questioning what is real and what is mere illusion.
The performances in “Presence” are top-notch, with the lead actress delivering a captivating portrayal of a woman struggling to maintain her sanity in the face of unimaginable terror. The supporting cast also shines, adding depth and complexity to the story.
Overall, “Presence” is a must-see for fans of supernatural thrillers. It offers a fresh take on the haunted house genre, blending scares with psychological intrigue to create a truly haunting experience. Whether you believe in the paranormal or not, “Presence” will leave you questioning the existence of forces beyond our comprehension. Don’t miss this spine-tingling film that will have you looking over your shoulder long after the credits roll.

Multi-hyphenate Lucy Liu steps into her horror role in ‘Presence’
Lucy Liu, who’s starred in titles from box-office action movies to crime dramas to musicals, now takes on a horror lead role in the new film “Presence.”
The ever-expansive actor, producer, director and artist plays the role of Rebekah, the family matriarch. Liu, 56, said the film, from director Steven Soderbergh and in theaters Friday, uses horror in an unexpected way to tell the story of unspoken family dynamics.
The movie features a young family who bought a 100-year-old suburban house from a real estate agent played by Julia Fox. There, family issues begin to unfold in a claustrophobic setting, depicted from the point of view of a mysterious spirit presence. The movie uses horror to touch on lesser-discussed family issues like child favoritism or communication breakdowns within marriages.
“The backdrop is a reality of a family dynamic and how this entity interacts or sees this family,” Liu told NBC News. “When people are in their own worlds, they don’t know how bad it sounds and how dysfunctional it can be until you see it from another perspective.”
The film doesn’t tie up loose ends and leaves audiences hanging, which she said horror is uniquely poised to do.
“Horror is a very specific genre that doesn’t necessarily need to be a tangible person or entity like Jason [from ‘Friday the 13th’], like things people imagined in the past,” Liu said. “This movie has a lot of suspense and when I watched it, it seemed like a thriller because things are unfolding and unraveling for the audience as they are watching it. It becomes a mystery that keeps people on the edge of their seats.”
Lucy Liu in Presence.NEON The first-person point of view of the ghostly presence was captured by Soderbergh as he crept around the set in his martial arts slippers, cloth shoes, following the actors with a handheld camera.
As a director herself on TV episodes of “Elementary,” “Luke Cage” and “American Born Chinese,” Liu said she was inspired by her experience working with Soderbergh as he brought his ideas to life in new and innovative ways.
“Steven is willing to try different genres and ways of filming,” she said. “It takes courage because when you are somebody who is well-established and has a huge following of people, you don’t want to disappoint them, but in order to grow as an artist, you have to take big chances, whether it works or not.”
After three decades in the movie industry, Liu continues to break new ground and is still pointed to as a prominent figure for Asian American representation in Hollywood.
Born and raised in Queens, New York, Liu said she always knew she wanted to be an actor, but she didn’t see herself represented. She took the leap anyway.
Starting her acting career in the early ‘90s, Liu had a number of smaller roles on TV shows and movies before landing her breakthrough role in the comedy-drama “Ally McBeal.” In the following years, Liu hit superstardom with big roles in “Charlie’s Angels” and Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill.”
The actor became the second Asian American woman to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, after Anna May Wong in the 1960s, and the first Asian American woman to host “Saturday Night Live,” in 2000.
Liu said her continued success as an actor through the decades can be credited to her willingness to take risks and reinvent herself.
“Going into the acting business is a giant risk, that’s what it is,” Liu said. “It doesn’t stop; it’s not like you take one risk and you make it to the other side of the bridge.”
Lucy Liu, known for her versatile acting skills and multi-hyphenate career as an actress, director, and producer, is set to make her mark in the horror genre with her upcoming film “Presence.”In this chilling new project, Liu plays the lead role of a woman who starts experiencing supernatural occurrences in her home after a traumatic event. As she delves deeper into the mystery, she uncovers dark secrets that threaten to consume her.
Liu, who has captivated audiences with her performances in a wide range of genres, from action to comedy to drama, is excited to explore the world of horror and showcase her talent in a new light. With her impeccable acting chops and commanding screen presence, she is sure to bring a fresh perspective to the genre.
“Presence” promises to be a spine-tingling thriller that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. With Liu at the helm, this film is sure to be a must-see for horror fans and cinephiles alike.
Stay tuned for more updates on “Presence” and get ready to be thrilled by Lucy Liu’s haunting performance in this upcoming horror film.

As a fractured family struggle to settle into their new home, a ghost watches their every move.
Steven Soderbergh has never been one to shy away from formal experimentation. Whether he is working within the studio system or independently, shooting on 16mm film or an iPhone, innovation is his trademark. His next audacious venture arrives in the form of Presence, which was shot in secret in the summer of 2023 and finds the filmmaker reinventing the paranormal thriller through an original point of view — in more ways than one.
Soderbergh acts as his own cinematographer, and his camera assumes the first-person perspective of a ghost, floating through the hallways of a spacious, suburban home. Matriarch Rebecca (Lucy Liu) and her nuclear family have moved in, and the spirit watches on as a seemingly idyllic unit begins to show its cracks. Captured in hypnotic long takes and wide angles, Rebecca fawns over her star-athlete son Tyler (Eddy Maday) while her daughter Chloe (Callina Liang) languishes in isolation. In the next room, her husband (Chris Sullivan) wonders if it’s even worth staying.
Despite its premise, Presence is more family drama than supernatural horror. The house’s cohabitant isn’t a malicious ghost seeking to terrorise its roommates, but one that’s benevolent, curious and perhaps even frightened. Much of the film plays out episodically with the spirit as a silent observer, but there are moments where it interferes, inviting the viewer to be more than just a voyeur, almost an active participant. When Chloe notices the spectre orbiting her and stares directly down the lens, there’s an eerie sensation of feeling like you’re somewhere where you shouldn’t be. The jittery reaction from the camera only heightens that feeling. There’s a reason for Chloe’s awareness: her best friend has recently passed, and she starts to believe her ghost has followed her here.
Grief in horror is an eye-roll-inducing trope at this point, but Presence instead considers what to do to help the bereaved. Do you allow them to recover alone, or do you step in when their heartbreak fuels unhealthy manners of coping? The latter manifests in Tyler’s increasingly suspect friend Ryan (West Mulholland), who takes a romantic interest in Chloe and adds contrived drama in a story that is otherwise delicately handled. Nevertheless, it’s all held together by a small but mighty cast: Liu is unsurprisingly spectacular, but Liang (in only her second film) is the real discovery, burying Chloe’s grief under steady composure. Presence lacks in scares, but terrifying audiences never appears to be the intention. Rather, Soderbergh’s unconventional ghost story situates the camera as a compelling character of its own. The result is haunting.
Steven Soderbergh’s first-person experiment is a gamble that pays off massively. This is an eerie family drama that turns the horror genre inside out and infuses it with greater empathy.
If you’re a fan of horror films that push the boundaries and challenge the status quo, then Presence is a must-watch. This indie gem turns the horror genre inside out, providing a fresh and unique take on the classic haunted house story. The film follows a group of friends who decide to spend a weekend in a remote cabin in the woods. As they settle in, they begin to experience strange and unsettling occurrences that seem to be connected to the presence of a malevolent entity. As tensions rise and relationships are tested, the group must confront their fears and unravel the mysteries of the cabin before it’s too late.
What sets Presence apart from other horror films is its innovative approach to storytelling. The film expertly plays with audience expectations, subverting traditional horror tropes and delivering unexpected twists and turns. The result is a genuinely suspenseful and chilling experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
In addition to its clever narrative, Presence also boasts strong performances from its cast, particularly lead actress Sarah Jones who delivers a standout performance as the group’s skeptical and resourceful protagonist. The film’s atmospheric cinematography and eerie sound design further enhance the sense of dread and unease, creating a truly immersive and haunting viewing experience.
Overall, Presence is a refreshing and inventive addition to the horror genre that is sure to leave a lasting impression on audiences. If you’re looking for a film that will keep you guessing and leave you with a lingering sense of unease, be sure to check out Presence.

Presence review – Soderbergh’s ghost’s-eye movie plays it cool with an unhappy family | Movies
Steven Soderbergh has made a ghost story with a screenplay from Hollywood veteran David Koepp. It sticks to a single location – the haunted family home – and the main character is the handheld camera’s ghostly point-of-view. It is the mute witness to everything that happens, roaming wordlessly around the house: up and down the stairs, in and out of the bedrooms, and evidently forbidden to go out back into the garden or out front on to the porch. We see what it sees.
Presence is conceived on elegant and economically spare lines, dialogue scenes are presented blankly, shot mostly from a distance (the ghost detached and hanging back) and interspersed with blackouts; it is well-acted, disciplined and intimate as a play. But for me it is marred by an early, unsubtle moment of overt supernatural creepiness, which signals a retreat from ingenuity and restraint. Perhaps it was a commercial concession to the idea that, for all the cool underplaying and periodic, uncanny sudden-chill moments in which a character will glance warily into the lens, the audience has to be reassured that this is a scary horror movie; it has to be shown what happens when an invisible ghost picks something up and carries it to the other side of the room. Surging strings on the soundtrack further underline the scariness.
The ghost can be read as a metaphorical expression of the family’s own terrible unhappiness and dysfunction. At the start the house is empty as they all move in: Chris (Chris Sullivan) and Rebecca (Lucy Liu) and their teenage children, swim team champ Tyler (Eddy Maday) and younger, sensitive Chloe (Callina Liang). Assertive Rebecca loves the house because it puts them in a school area where her beloved Tyler will bloom as a sports megastar; she neglects Chloe, Chris’s favourite, who is depressed over certain tragedies which have befallen her friends. The house could be a little too expensive for them; Rebecca, who drinks too much, has maybe cut some financial and legal corners to get a loan or for other reasons. We (and the implacably judging ghost) see her having secret, tense phone conversations and deleting emails. Then Chloe begins her fateful romance with Tyler’s friend Ryan (West Mulholland).
Of course, there is a difference between characters getting freaked out for a millionth of a second by suspecting the ghost’s invisible presence and the ghost freaking them out for a considerably greater length of time by actually intervening in their lives. And the ghost’s behaviour is arguably not consistent; having protected Chloe from something terrible early on, it is perhaps not entirely clear, in the moment, why the ghost doesn’t do this a second time when Chloe is in danger again, in exactly the same way. Well, it could be that the ghost will risk everything to create the final, terrible denouement.
Presence is flawed. It doesn’t match, say, David Lowery’s A Ghost Story or, further back, Alejandro Amenábar’s superlative The Others. But Soderbergh directs it all with flair and pace: low budget, high intelligence in the way we expect from him.
Steven Soderbergh’s latest film, Presence, takes viewers on a chilling journey into the world of a haunted family. The movie follows a mother and her two children as they move into a remote farmhouse in the hopes of starting fresh. However, they soon realize that they are not alone in the house, as they are haunted by a malevolent presence.Soderbergh’s direction in Presence is masterful, creating a tense and atmospheric atmosphere that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The use of long, lingering shots and a muted color palette add to the sense of unease and dread that permeates the film.
The performances in Presence are also top-notch, with each member of the cast delivering a nuanced and emotional performance. The family dynamics are explored in depth, showing the strain and tension that the haunting brings to their already fragile relationships.
While Presence may not be a traditional horror film, it excels at building suspense and creating a sense of unease that lingers long after the credits roll. Soderbergh’s unique take on the haunted house genre is refreshing and engaging, making Presence a must-see for fans of psychological horror.
Overall, Presence is a haunting and atmospheric film that will leave viewers questioning what is real and what is imagined. Soderbergh’s skillful direction and the strong performances from the cast make this a standout film in the horror genre. Don’t miss out on this chilling and thought-provoking movie.

A United States nuclear-powered aircraft carrier conducted a war game with ally the Philippines in the contested South China Sea last week while China carried out “combat-readiness” patrols.
Newsweek has reached out to the U.S. Seventh Fleet, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Chinese Defense Ministry for comment by email.
Why It Matters
USS Carl Vinson has been operating in the South China Sea since late December last year. It is deployed with F-35C stealth aircraft, the U.S. Navy‘s most capable fighter jet.
China‘s claims in the South China Sea cover nearly all maritime features but overlap with those of neighboring countries, including the Philippines, and have often led to clashes at sea. Manila is an ally of Washington as both sides maintain a mutual defense treaty.
What To Know
The U.S. Seventh Fleet said the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group, which also included a cruiser and two destroyers, as well as a P-8A maritime patrol aircraft, concluded a two-day Maritime Cooperative Activity, or MCA, with the Philippine armed forces on Saturday.
This fifth iteration of the MCA reinforced maritime cooperation and coordination, the Philippine military said, which has mobilized two ships and two fighter aircraft for communication and maneuver exercises, as well as aircraft combat training.
The MCA highlighted a longstanding partnership with its Philippine counterpart in the maritime domain, the U.S. Seventh Fleet said, showcasing a “collective commitment” to strengthening cooperation in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

According to the Philippine military, the MCA was carried out near Palawan, which is the country’s westernmost province in waters in the South China Sea that fall within Manila’s 200-nautical-mile exclusive economic zone.
While the U.S. and the Philippine militaries were conducting exercises in the South China Sea, the Chinese military patrolled an undisclosed location in the region with maritime and air units, the People’s Liberation Army Southern Theater Command said in a statement.
The patrols were aimed at maintaining regional peace and stability, according to the Southern Theater Command, whose area of responsibility covers the South China Sea.
“Any military activities that disrupt the South China Sea are under control,” it said.
What People Are Saying
U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Michael Wosje, commander of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group, said: “The U.S. and the Philippines are ironclad allies. As fellow maritime nations, we share the common goal of a free and open Indo-Pacific, assuring access to the seas.”
Philippine General Romeo Brawner Jr., the Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff, said: “This MCA is a crucial element of our continued efforts to strengthen defense cooperation. With each exercise, we become increasingly prepared and effective in addressing the challenges ahead.”
What Happens Next
The U.S. is likely to conduct another MCA with the Philippines this year. It remains to be seen whether Manila will hold similar activities with U.S. allies like Japan and Australia.
The United States has deployed an aircraft carrier to patrol the South China Sea amid increasing military presence from China. The USS Carl Vinson, a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, is conducting routine operations in the disputed waters to ensure freedom of navigation in the region. The South China Sea has been a hotly contested area, with China claiming sovereignty over most of the waters and building military installations on artificial islands. The presence of the USS Carl Vinson is seen as a show of force by the United States to challenge China’s claims and assert its commitment to upholding international law.
The deployment of the aircraft carrier comes at a time of heightened tensions between the United States and China, with both countries engaged in a trade war and competing for influence in the Asia-Pacific region. The US Navy’s presence in the South China Sea is a clear signal that the United States will not back down in the face of Chinese aggression and will continue to protect freedom of navigation in the region.
As the USS Carl Vinson patrols the South China Sea, it serves as a reminder to China that the United States remains vigilant and ready to defend its interests and those of its allies in the region. The presence of such a powerful symbol of American military might sends a strong message to Beijing that any attempts to assert dominance in the South China Sea will not go unchallenged.

** The X factor is Mr. Underrated … Certainly, Notre Dame will be keying on Ohio State wideout Jeremiah Smith. But it would be a mistake, too, if the Fighting Irish forgot to clue in on TreVeyon Henderson. Henderson could turn this game in a blink of an eye.
He had a 66-yard touchdown run in the rout of Oregon at the Rose Bowl. He then took a screen pass 75 yards for an important touchdown right before halftime in the Cotton Bowl win over Texas.
“Trey is one of the most underrated guys in college football,” OSU quarterback Will Howard said. “That dude is an explosive guy when he gets the ball in his hands.
“I think one of the most special things he does is without the ball in his hands is pass pro. That guy is unbelievable in pass pro. As a quarterback, it’s cool because he takes so much pride in it, and he loves — he’s like, ‘Man, they’re not touching my quarterback, man.’ Man, I love that, a dude that — especially a running back that’s unselfish enough to be that caring about not letting dudes hit his quarterback, that’s special.
“He and Q (Quinshon Judkins) do an unbelievable job in pass pro. What they do with the ball in their hands speaks for itself, but that’s one piece of his game on the field, I would say, that it’s special and probably overlooked.”
Can Henderson put his fingerprints on one more playoff victory that would bring Ohio State a national championship tonight?
