Miami Dolphins at Houston Texans Game Preview
That special time of year has arrived. The period on the calendar where family, food and football reign supreme; and this year, between the NFL and the College Football Playoff, massive games are on television just about every day.
For the Dolphins, their Sunday showdown in Cleveland will be an opportunity to keep playoff hopes alive. Miami needs a pair of wins and some help to get back to the postseason for the third consecutive year.
A win would push Miami back to the .500 mark for the first time since Week 2. A Broncos or Chargers loss on Saturday, paired with a Dolphins victory, would keep Miami’s playoff hopes alive entering Week 18.
To find the winner’s circle, the Dolphins need to solve one of the NFL’s most talented defenses, spearheaded for reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett and three-time Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward. Ward is holding opposing pass catchers – typically the No. 1 on a given team – to a passer rating of just 82.2 when targeted.
Then there’s Garrett. He’s recorded double-digit sacks each of the last seven years and been named NFL All-Pro five times with a sixth likely on the way in 2024. He presents arguably the biggest challenge of the season for Miami’s star left tackle Terron Armstead, who held San Francisco star pass rusher Nick Bosa without a hit on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in last week’s 29-17 win over the 49ers.
It stands to reason that the ball must come out fast, and likely away from Ward. It also stands to reason that the solution for such a game plan could be tight end Jonnu Smith, who last week became the franchise’s single-season record holder for receptions (76) and receiving yards (802) by a tight end.
“With Jonnu, it’s sort of endless,” Tagovailoa said. “If he needs to big body the ball, he can do that. If he needs to use his hands, he can do that as well. If you just allow him to get the ball into his hands, he’s super dangerous with the ball.”
Quick passing game solutions often means targets for the running back, too. De’Von Achane is fresh off a 190-yards-from-scrimmage performance and has been an impactful player for Miami in both the run and pass game.
On the other side, the Browns are likely to start Dorian Thompson-Robinson at quarterback for the second straight game. A fifth-round pick last year by the Browns, Thompson-Robinson will be making his fifth career start. He’s thrown one touchdown compared to nine interceptions in his 13 games of experience and averaged just 3.9 yards per attempt.
It’ll be imperative for the Dolphins to make life difficult on the young quarterback, just as they have done the last two weeks. Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud and San Francisco signal-caller Brock Purdy passed for just 444 yards against Miami, producing 37 points across those two contests.
If the Dolphins can beat the Browns and win at MetLife Stadium next week against the Jets, they would clinch a fifth consecutive winning season. The last happened when Miami posted seven straight winning seasons from 1997-2003.
Make sure to check out the Injury Report and the team’s official social media accounts 90 minutes before kickoff to see who is active for the game.
Watch the game live on Sunday, December 29 at 4:05 p.m. ET on CBS, and listen on the Dolphins Radio Network and view the Game Center for the latest coverage.
The Miami Dolphins are set to take on the Houston Texans in an exciting matchup this weekend. Both teams are coming off of tough losses and will be looking to bounce back with a win.The Dolphins will be looking to improve their record after a disappointing loss to the Buffalo Bills last week. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will need to step up and lead the offense to put up points against the Texans’ defense. The Dolphins will also need their defense to step up and make key stops against the Texans’ offense.
On the other side, the Texans are coming off of a tough loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor will need to have a big game and lead the offense to score against the Dolphins’ defense. The Texans will also need their defense to step up and make key stops against the Dolphins’ offense.
Overall, this game should be a close and competitive matchup between two teams looking to get back on track. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting game between the Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans.

#Miami #Dolphins #Houston #Texans #Game #PreviewBrooklyn Nets vs. Orlando Magic preview: Nets begin New Year’s road trip
Back on the road. The Brooklyn Nets wrapped up the home portion of their 2024 schedule with a loss to the San Antonio Spurs. The Nets begin a three game road trip tonight that will carry them into the New Year.
The opponent today is swamped by injuries, but they’re still fighting. When we look at the Orlando Magic’s injury report, we’ll see a lot of star power there. They took on the New York Knicks on Friday night and ran out of steam after halftime as the Knicks won comfortably.
Where to follow the game
YES Network on TV. WFAN on radio. Daytime affair so we’re getting started after 3:00 p.m. ET
Injuries
Bojan Bogdanovic, Trendon Watford, and Ziaire Williams are out. Ben Simmons missed Friday’s game as the second half of a back-to-back. He should be back today. Same for Cam Johnson who missed the game with a hip injury. AND ….Cam Thomas is listed as probable after missing 13 straight.
Franz Wagner, Mo Wagner, and Paolo Banchero are out.
The game
Orlando won games one, two, and three. This is the last meeting between the two teams this season.
The NBA season is long, and every club gets tested. You learn about yourself in this process and hope that the lessons guide you into a successful future. At Orlando Magic Daily, Philip Rossman-Reich wrote about the team’s resilience and said:
The Magic are down a lot of players and they feel the pressure that comes with that. They feel the margin for error when they make mistakes.
But they also see the resolve they have to overcome them. They see how their effort and intensity makes up for a lot of what they are missing. They see how their defense can still win and give them a chance if they stick with it.
These games now will serve as valuable lessons for the group come postseason time.
The frontcourt for Orlando has been wrecked by injuries, but Goga Bitadze has held things down as best as he can. He’s grabbed at least nine rebounds in nine straight games and has tried to anchor the Magic’s interior. Nic Claxton will look to make things hard on Bitadze inside and try to cash in on close shot attempts on offense. They need him to hit on those three footers if they want to make Orlando respect them on the inside.
Having Cam Johnson back should open up the offense. CJ is taking on new challenges in the offense, and the results are starting to show. Lucas went in depth about it on Friday, and you should check it out! Even in a season where the focus is on the future, there’s a lot to watch and observe in the present.
Player to watch: Jalen Suggs
When you’re down options one and two on offense, those shots have to go somewhere. For the Magic, they’ve gone to Suggs. Since December 8th, he’s averaged 21 points on 42/30/88 shooting splits. It’s a lot of heavy lifting for Suggs, and after halftime on Friday he only went 3-6 from the field (with no three pointers made) after going 7-of-14 with four threes. It’s a lot to ask of Suggs, but it’s what he’ll have to do until reinforcements arrive.
Cam Thomas is back, and we’ll see how many minutes he plays tonight. Hamstring injuries are always tricky and you never know you’re back to normal until you’re out there. The Nets have historically been conservative with players coming back from injury, so it would be surprising if he played a heavy amount of minutes. At the very least, the Nets get a guard that can create his own shot and give Cam Johnson another good scorer alongside him. The big number for him and the Nets. When CT went down, Brooklyn had the eighth best offense in the NBA. Since then? They’re 29th.
From the Vault
On Friday afternoon, it was announced that broadcaster Greg Gumbel passed away at the age of 78. Let’s take it back to 1997 and relive two of his best NBA calls alongside fellow icons Bill Walton and Steve “Snapper” Jones!

The Brooklyn Nets are set to kick off the new year with a road trip starting with a matchup against the Orlando Magic. The Nets have been on a hot streak as of late, winning eight of their last ten games and currently sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.Led by superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the Nets have been a force to be reckoned with on both ends of the court. Their high-powered offense, combined with their improved defense, has made them a formidable team in the league.
On the other hand, the Orlando Magic have been struggling this season, currently sitting near the bottom of the standings in the Eastern Conference. However, they have shown flashes of potential with their young core of players like Cole Anthony and Mo Bamba.
The matchup between the Nets and the Magic will be an interesting one to watch, as both teams have something to prove. The Nets will look to continue their winning streak and solidify their position at the top of the standings, while the Magic will be looking to pull off an upset and gain some momentum moving forward.
Overall, this game promises to be an exciting one with high-flying dunks, sharpshooting, and intense defense. Be sure to tune in and catch all the action as the Nets begin their new year’s road trip against the Orlando Magic.

What to Watch
Don’t Forget Buffalo’s Other Sports Team
The redheaded stepchild Buffalo Sabres take on the St. Louis Blues today in an afternoon game starting at 3 pm. In direct competition will be Western New York’s favorite son, the Buffalo Bills. That game should be well into the 3rd quarter at puck drop. Hopefully Josh Allen and company have the New York Jets down and out by that time.
Meanwhile, the Sabres will be looking for their 3rd straight victory on the heels of that horrific losing streak. The competition has not been stellar but you have to win the games in front of you. Buffalo will need to do a lot of that in the coming months for any chance at the playoffs. (just play along) Good thing for them, the team is really gelling right now, playing pretty good D and scoring goals too. Rasmus Dahlin looks to be fully recovered from his back issues, notching 6 assists in his last 2 games. Alex Tuch is fresh off his hat trick against Chicago. Dylan Cozens has 6 points in his last 5 games. J.J. Peterka has points in 6 straight games. (2-6-8) And let us not forget Jack Quinn, with 4 goals in his last 5 games and 6 points overall. His time in the press box seems to have served him well.
More Subpar Competition
The Blues just moved a game over .500 with a victory over Nashville on Friday night. They sit 6th in their division and are currently out of position for the post season. Of course, the Sabres are still worse off than St. Louis right now. But Buffalo should be glad for these last 3 games on the schedule. (Isles, Blackhawks, Blues) While no team should be taken lightly, today’s game presents another good chance for a needed win. After today, the Sabres next 4 contests are tough ones. They face Dallas, Colorado, Vegas and Washington. Thankfully, these games are all spaced out, with rest time for UPL in between. In fact, all of the games for the next 3 weeks are, no back to backs at all. Reimer should still probably see a game or two in there if needed.
St Louis is led by Jordan Kyrou, who tops the team with 15 goals and 31 points. First line center Robert Thomas, who has missed more than 10 games, is right behind him with 28 points. Also hot lately is forward Dylan Holloway, who has 3 goals and 5 points in his last 5 games. A surprise contributor recently is newly acquired Cam Fowler. After spending 14 seasons with the Ducks, the defender has 5 points in 7 games with the Blues. A much better scoring clip for him than his 4 points in 17 games for Anaheim earlier this season.
Learn Those Winning Ways
The long season we are always hearing about is nearing the halfway point. The Sabres need to keep collecting as many wins as possible. Chances are bleak for the post season but the team needs to learn to win at a better clip. And recover better from a loss even more. They must establish a better focus and winning mindset in these last 45 games. Don’t be a pushover and don’t go quietly. Fight until the end in every game. And maybe, just maybe, the latter part of the season can be a turning point for this franchise. The Buffalo breakthrough we have all hoped for. Lord knows we are due. The remainder of this season should be treated as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. For the core veterans and core young players alike. Finish strong, add a few talented veterans over the summer and come out guns blazing in the fall of 2025.
Now, if you have had enough hope and sunshine shoved up your butt, here is today’s lineup.

#Rachaad #White #Week #Preview #PanthersAC Milan vs. AS Roma: Serie A Match Preview
With 2024 nearly drawing to a close, it’s safe to say that this year has been a bit of a mixed bag for A.S. Roma. The good? The emergence of the likes of Niccolo Pisilli and Mile Svilar. The bad? Well… just about everything else. That’s all you can say when a club like Roma has four managers in one calendar year.
Given that, I don’t feel entirely crazy for having some hope heading into 2025. That hope isn’t solely based on visions of January transfers and out-of-nowhere turnarounds, either; it’s based on recent form. Dreadful 2-0 loss to Como notwithstanding, Roma has been on something of a heater since the calendar flipped to December, with the Giallorossi racking up four wins and two losses across all competitions and an eye-watering sixteen goals scored compared to six goals allowed. While that good form has come at the expense of several key players’ spots in the starting eleven, Romanisti everywhere are certainly in a better mood now than around Thanksgiving.
Tomorrow’s match against Milan presents the first true challenge to the Giallorossi since this run of good form began, however. After all, December started with a 2-0 loss to Atalanta, and since then, it’s been smooth sailing in terms of opponent strength (don’t remind me of the Como loss again, please). Paulo Fonseca’s Milan are not at full strength, and even if they were, they’re currently in eighth place; they’re not the world-beaters they have been in recent years.
But this kind of marquee matchup maintains its glimmer even when both sides are underplaying their expectations, and you can bet your bottom dollar that the players will give this one their all. If Roma can pull off a convincing win against Milan, it will transform the cautious optimism many are starting to feel around the Giallorossi into full-fledged hope. Hope for a new year: that wouldn’t be too bad, now would it?
What To Watch For
Is the Back Three Here to Stay?
Photo by Luciano Rossi/AS Roma via Getty Images
When Claudio Ranieri returned to Trigoria, skeptics wondered whether the veteran manager could stabilize a Roma defense that has been uncharacteristically porous this season. Somehow, once out-of-favor defender Mats Hummels has answered the call. The German stalwart, signed on a short-term deal last summer, has silenced all doubts with his commanding performances in the past month. His leadership has transformed the Giallorossi’s backline into a cohesive and disciplined unit. As Ranieri noted in his pre-match press conference, Roma’s intention to extend Hummels’ stay is as much a testament to his quality as it is a signal of their ambitions.
Hummels’ importance in Ranieri’s defense during this run of good form can’t be overstated, and his good form looks as if it will be informing Roma’s plans for the January mercato. Corriere dello Sport is now reporting that any potential reinforcements in January hinge on the club’s commitment to Ranieri’s preferred back-three formation. The system has not only revitalized the defense but also provided a stable platform for the team’s midfield to flourish. With Mario Hermoso looking increasingly likely to depart Rome in January, Roma are reportedly scouring the market for two defensive additions. But the key piece of the puzzle remains Hummels—if he stays, the blueprint for the defense remains intact.
Hummels’ presence in the defense in that back three looms large as the Giallorossi head to the San Siro. Even without Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao, Milan’s attack is quite potent, and Hummels’ ability to marshal the backline and maintain composure under pressure will be critical. Tammy Abraham and Alvaro Morata will pose far more of a challenge for this defense than any attacker they’ve faced in December, but Ranieri’s defense has shown resilience in recent weeks. A clean sheet against even a weakened Milan attack would show that Roma can turn the corner on a horrid first half of the season and even win against Italy’s biggest clubs.
Another Chance for Pisilli?
Photo by Massimo Insabato/Archivio Massimo Insabato/Mondadori Portfolio via Getty Images
It’s easy to pinpoint the two true blue bright spots of Roma’s season to date, and while the emergence of Mile Svilar is clearly the best outcome of 2024, the emergence of Niccolò Pisilli is a close second. With Gazzetta Dello Sport reporting that Ranieri favors Pisilli to start tomorrow’s match against Milan over more experienced options, the match could mark a defining moment in the youngster’s budding career. So far, Pisilli has been playing consistently, but not necessarily against the biggest names in Italian football. A start against Milan would change that, and his ability to break lines and press high could be pivotal in disrupting Paulo Fonesca’s game plan.
Pisilli’s rise has also sparked action behind the scenes, with reports of a contract extension negotiation already underway. Roma are clearly eager to tie down their academy graduate , signaling their belief that he could be a cornerstone of the squad for years to come. The timing of these talks is no coincidence; giving Pisilli a key role against Milan is not just a reward for his performances in training but also a message to the player and the fans that he is an integral part of the club’s vision. A strong showing on Sunday could accelerate those negotiations and cement Pisilli’s status as one of Trigoria’s crown jewels.
If Pisilli impresses yet again against Milan, it will be yet another confirmation that he has what it takes to succeed at the highest level. If he can handle the pressure of the San Siro, he’ll send a clear message to Ranieri and the Roma brass: he’s ready to shoulder more responsibility. The rumors of a January departure for Bryan Cristante and Lorenzo Pellegrini may still just be rumors, but they’ve made one thing clear: in the eyes of the top brass, there’s a hole in the midfield. Only time will tell if Pisilli is the right piece to fill it up.

#Milan #Roma #Serie #Match #PreviewPreview: Wrexham vs. Wigan Athletic – prediction, team news, lineups
Sports Mole previews Sunday’s League One clash between Wrexham and Wigan Athletic, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
High-flying Wrexham are set to host Wigan Athletic at the Racecourse Ground on Sunday in League One.
The Red Dragons have won their last two games and will head into this weekend’s clash expecting another three points, while Wigan are unbeaten in their last three and will feel capable of getting a positive result on the road this weekend.

Phil Parkinson‘s Wrexham are currently third in League One, having earned an impressive 45 points from their 22 matches so far.
The Red Dragons are two points behind Wycombe Wanderers in the automatic promotion places and will be looking for three points to put pressure on the Chairboys and Birmingham City in the title race.
Last time out, Parkinson’s ever-ambitious side won 2-1 at home against Blackpool thanks to a remarkable strike from Paul Mullin and a late penalty from Steven Fletcher, and that result took his side’s unbeaten streak to eight matches in all competitions.
That stretch goes back to a 1-0 loss against Stockport County in mid-November, and includes six wins and just two draws.
In the league specifically, Wrexham have lost just one of their last 13 games, keeping seven clean sheets in the process, and can boast the best defensive record in the division having conceded just 15 goals this term.
This weekend, the Red Dragons will face a side that have the joint-fourth worst offensive record in League One, and Parkinson will hope their defensive solidity can help to secure the points they need to maintain their push for a third successive promotion.

Meanwhile, Shaun Maloney‘s Wigan are 14th in the third-tier after picking up 27 points from their 21 games to date.
Last time out, the Latics followed up a derby-day win over Bolton Wanderers on December 14 and a draw with Shrewsbury Town a week later by beating Rotherham United 1-0 on Boxing Day, a match in which academy product Babajide Adeeko netted his first career goal.
They may have been disappointed to have drawn with relegation-threatened Shrewsbury, but those three results gave Maloney’s side a crucial seven points that has taken them four places up the table them from the 18th-placed they were after losing to Leyton Orient on December 7.
More importantly, Wigan were just two points above the relegation zone after losing to the Os, but now, eight points above the relegation places and seven from the playoff spots, the Latics are the definition of mid-table.
With this in mind, Maloney will be looking to continue his side’s form with another positive result on Sunday that would help to both secure their future in the division and move them up the table, though it will be difficult for them to overcome such a high-calibre side.

Team News

Wrexham boss Parkinson has mentioned that George Evans is back in training after recovering from an ankle ligament injury he picked up in October, and though he did not feature against Blackpool, he could make the squad this weekend.
First-choice goalkeeper Arthur Onkonkwo is nearing a return from a broken wrist that he suffered last month, though Mark Howard is likely to start between the sticks once again.
Similarly, striker Jack Marriott, who is in the process of recovering from a broken fibula, has been running on grass but is not expected back in action until 2025.
In his absence, Ollie Palmer will start up front with Paul Mullin, who will be looking to build on his excellent goal last time out and kickstart what has been a poor season by his standards.
Meanwhile, Wigan are likely to be without Matt Smith after he was taken off with an injury against Rotherham, and Scott Smith, who was substituted on in that game, could take his place in the XI on Sunday.
Elsewhere, boss Maloney is likely to task midfielders Babajide Adeeko and Thelo Aasgaard with assisting striker Dale Taylor in breaking down League One’s best defence.
Wrexham possible starting lineup:
Howard; Barnett, Cleworth, O’Connell, Brunt, McClean; Cannon, James, Rathbone; Mullin, PalmerWigan Athletic possible starting lineup:
Tickle; Sibbick, Kerr, Aimson, Sessegnon; S Smith, J Smith, Adeeko, Aasgaard, Thomas; Taylor
We say: Wrexham 2-0 Wigan Athletic
Both sides will come into the game with confidence from their form, though it is difficult to ignore the consistency of Wrexham’s results.
Additionally, the Red Dragons’ excellent defence may prove too strong for the Latics to breach, and this makes a win for the hosts on Sunday seem almost inevitable.
