United Cup 2025: Coco Gauff vs Leylah Fernandez; Preview, Head-to-Head, and Prediction
The stage is set for a blockbuster clash at the 2025 United Cup! American superstar, Coco Gauff is all set to take on Canada’s Leylah Fernadez on December 29 (Day 3). Who’ll win this epic battle? Well, Gauff was heard saying, “I think we all want to win. It’s not an easy start to the first match of the year, playing Leylah and Felix.” What did Fernandez say of this exciting matchup? “Playing against (Coco Gauff) is never easy. She’s a tough opponent, great competitor. So hopefully we’re going to have fun tomorrow and going to put on some good show,” said the 22-year-old Canadian. Who has the edge in this enticing encounter, though?
Coco Gauff vs Leylah Fernandez: Prediction
Coco Gauff started her season with a title triumph at the ASB Classic and ended the season by winning the WTA Finals. She defeated China’s Qinwen Zheng in the final of the 2024 WTA Finals event 3-6,6-4,7-6(2). Apart from these two, Coco Gauff has also won the China Open this year. She defeated Karolina Muchova (CZE) in that match in two sets. What will be the scoreline in her match against the Canadian, though?

Talking about the Canadian, Leylah Fernandez has failed to win a title this season. However, she has made quite a few deep runs in her previous tournaments in 2024! Her best record was reaching the final of the Eastbourne International in June 2024. However, she was defeated by Russia’s Daria Kasatkina in that match 3-6,4-6. After that, she made quite a few QF runs and also reached the SF of the Hong Kong Open. Fernandez is entering this match after beating Croatia’s Donna Vekic in the previous match at the United Cup by 6-4,6-3. Can the Canadian keep her winning run intact at this tournament?

Both Coco Gauff and Leylah Fernandez are two of the most promising tennis players on the women’s Tour at the moment. However, the 2023 US Open champion (Gauff) hasn’t yet faced the 2021 US Open finalist (Fernandez) ever in her career. So, currently, their H2H record is at 0-0!
Prediction: Gauff to win in three sets
Coco Gauff struggles a bit with her consistency in the 2024 season. However, she made a stunning end to her campaign in the last season by winning the WTA Finals. Experts opine this win would give her a boost in confidence for the upcoming tournament and it starts from the United Cup itself! After failing at the Paris Olympics, she is desperate to win a title for her nation. If we take a look at her record in the 2024 season, Coco Gauff (3) had a win-loss record of 54-17. On the other hand, her opponent, Leylah Fernandez (31) has a win-loss record of just 31-25.

Considering all these factors, Gauff seems to be having a slight edge in this epic battle! However, we’re not ruling out the chances of Fernadez coming up with a tough fight in this matchup. Now, if we take a look at their playing styles, Coco Gauff is known for her incredible athleticism and excellent defensive game. She can mix up her shots pretty well and has the ability to win longer rallies. Not only that, but even her incredible mental toughness gives her an edge in bringing out favorable outcomes from the nervy moments during her matches. However, her serves has been a major issue in the 2024 season. She has hit 250 aces in the last season but committed 430 double faults.
Talking about serves, even Leylah Fernandez struggled a bit with it last season. Fernandez hit 136 aces and committed 249 double faults! Now, if we shift our focus to her playing style, Leylah Fernandez mainly comprises power, agility, and incredible strategic moves. This left-handed tennis player can create some challenging angles to keep her opponents always on their toes. Even she has incredible athleticism and footwork. Considering their fighting spirit, we expect this match to go a little deeper, but Coco Gauff’s superior momentum makes her a favorite in this match.
The United Cup 2025 is set to feature an exciting match-up between two of the rising stars in women’s tennis, Coco Gauff and Leylah Fernandez. Both players have been making waves on the professional circuit and are sure to put on a thrilling display of skill and talent.Head-to-Head: Gauff and Fernandez have faced each other a few times on the WTA tour, with each player notching a win against the other. Their matches have been closely contested, with both players showcasing their versatility and tenacity on the court. It’s safe to say that this upcoming match will be a battle to remember.
Preview: Gauff, known for her powerful serve and aggressive baseline game, will be looking to assert her dominance early in the match. Fernandez, on the other hand, is a crafty player with excellent court coverage and a knack for finding angles to outmaneuver her opponents. Their contrasting styles make for an intriguing match-up that is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
Prediction: This match is bound to be a nail-biter, with both players bringing their A-game to the court. While Gauff may have the edge in terms of experience and firepower, Fernandez has proven time and time again that she is a force to be reckoned with. In the end, I predict that Fernandez will come out on top in a closely contested match, showcasing her resilience and determination to come out victorious.
Be sure to tune in to the United Cup 2025 to witness this epic showdown between two of the brightest young talents in women’s tennis. It’s sure to be a match for the ages.

#United #Cup #Coco #Gauff #Leylah #Fernandez #Preview #HeadtoHead #PredictionFantasy Premier League GW19 preview: Targeting Newcastle players and holding on to Haaland
There is a quick turnaround for Gameweek 19 because we go again on Sunday with another Fantasy Premier League deadline.
As expected during this busy festive period, there were some surprise benchings and withdrawals from the usual starting XIs in Gameweek 18. And we might well see more rotation coming up — which is why it is important to be even more vigilant at this time of year.
Here we’ll preview Gameweek 19 and give you all the important information you need for the upcoming gameweek.
Eddie Howe’s team have won their last three games and scored 16 in the previous five. Alexander Isak (£9.1m) has bagged seven goals and two assists in the past five and is the second-highest-scoring forward in the game, surpassing Erling Haaland (£14.8m).
Newcastle play Manchester United away next but I would not let that put you off getting the Swede into your team. He is nailed to start, on penalties and is one of the best forwards in the league. After their visit to Old Trafford this weekend. Newcastle then play Spurs (A), Wolves (H), Bournemouth (H), Southampton (A) and Fulham (H).
Anthony Gordon (£7.3m) and Lewis Hall (£4.7m) are great buys too. Gordon has a goal and two assists in the past three, and Hall is great value at his price. He has been one of the most attacking defenders in the league and will pick up assists. He already has three.
How to deal with Man City’s issues?
We have to talk about Manchester City… again. Their drop-off this season has been quite astonishing — and more so Haaland’s.
In their past nine games, they have lost seven and have only one win. The Norwegian has two goals in that time and even had a penalty saved against Everton.
However, if you still have him, I think it isn’t a bad idea to keep him for the next two at least. Manchester City play Leicester City (A) and West Ham (H) next and he will be a huge differential now.
Paying £14.8m for his returns is nowhere near worth it but if you can hold off for another few weeks, it might pay off. He is the only City player there is value in holding. If you own any of their other assets, especially the defence, I would look to offload as soon as you can.

Players to watch
Jhon Duran (£5.9m) was sent off for violent conduct against Newcastle, which means he will miss three games (although one will be the club’s FA Cup tie with West Ham United) after Aston Villa’s appeal failed.
Ollie Watkins (£8.8m) has started on the bench in the past four games but should be back on the pitch in Duran’s absence. He could be a great differential if you are looking for a forward. Villa play Brighton (H) and Leicester (H) while Duran is suspended.
I would also be looking at Crystal Palace players. Gameweek 19 is a great entry point for them because they host Southampton and they have solid fixtures for a while. They also play Leicester (A), West Ham (A), Brentford (H), Everton (H), Villa (H) and Ipswich (H) over the next 10.
Watkins could be a good differential (Malcolm Couzens/Getty Images)Daniel Munoz (£4.7m), Ismaila Sarr (£5.8m) and Jean-Philippe Mateta (£7.2m) are all great options to invest in this gameweek. It’s worth noting Eberechi Eze (£6.6m) played 87 minutes but I would want to see at least one more game from him before I look to buy.
Despite Spurs’ poor form, I think Dominic Solanke (£7.5m) is a worthwhile buy this gameweek if you are looking for a forward.
He has six goals and five assists and although he hasn’t been explosive, he has been ticking along. The former Bournemouth forward is a nailed-on 90-minute player, which is exactly what we need at this time of the season.
Spurs play Wolves (H), Newcastle (H), Everton (A), Leicester (H), Brentford (A) and Ipswich (A) over the next eight. He is a reliable option who should score well over this run.
Beware of suspensions
There were quite a few players who received their fifth booking of season over the Boxing Day round of games, which means they will miss their next match. Justin Kluivert (£5.5m), Marc Guehi (£4.5m), Matty Cash (£4.4m) and Dominik Szoboszlai (£6.3m) were the notable players who will have the weekend off.
GO DEEPER
How Antonee Robinson became the best left-back in the Premier League
Some notable players who are on four yellow cards and will miss their next game if they get booked are: Nicolas Jackson (£8.3m), Robert Sanchez (£4.8m), Jurrien Timber (£5.7m), Lewis Dunk (£4.4m), Antonee Robinson (£4.9m), Jan Paul van Hecke (£4.5m), Morgan Rogers (£5.4m), Gabriel Jesus (£6.8m), Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.8m), James Maddison (£7.7m) and Morgan Gibbs-White (£6.3m).
GO DEEPER
Which Premier League players are at risk of a yellow card suspension?
You might want to consider this if you are planning on transferring any of them in. Also, if you still own Matheus Cunha (£7.1m) then you are best holding on to him for another gameweek. It’s likely he will serve a ban soon but it seems unlikely it will be before the Spurs game.
If you own Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m) and have adequate bench cover for him this week, I don’t think he is worth a transfer out. Manchester United have been poor but he is still churning out points, and from Gameweek 21 they have some good fixtures coming up. United play Southampton (H), Brighton (H), Fulham (A), Palace (H) and Spurs (A) – after they face Liverpool at Anfield on January 5.

As we head into Gameweek 19 of the Fantasy Premier League, there are some key players to keep an eye on and others that you may want to hold onto despite recent struggles. One team that could provide some value in the coming weeks is Newcastle, who have a favorable run of fixtures ahead.Newcastle have been in decent form recently, picking up wins against the likes of Burnley and Norwich. With upcoming matches against the likes of Everton, Southampton, and Watford, the Magpies could provide some points for FPL managers looking for differential picks. Players like Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Joe Willock could be worth considering for your team.
On the other hand, one player you may want to hold onto despite recent struggles is Erling Haaland. The Borussia Dortmund striker has been in sensational form this season, scoring 18 goals in 16 Bundesliga appearances. With rumors swirling about a potential move to the Premier League in January, Haaland could be a key player to have in your FPL team as he looks to impress potential suitors.
As always, it’s important to keep an eye on injury news and form heading into Gameweek 19. By targeting Newcastle players and holding onto Haaland, you could give yourself a competitive edge in the coming weeks. Good luck with your FPL teams!

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Dallas Mavericks: Game preview, prediction, time, TV channel
The Portland Trail Blazers look to win back-to-back games for the first time since Nov. 17 when they host the Dallas Mavericks Saturday night at the Moda Center.
The Blazers have lost six consecutive games against Dallas. Their last victory occurred in January 2023.
Dallas defeated Portland 137-131 in Portland on Dec. 1 and blew them out 132-108 at home on Monday.
Still, the Mavericks could be ripe for an upset. They will be without superstar Luka Doncic, who could miss at least a month with a calf injury. On Monday, he scored 27 points with seven rebounds and seven assists against the Blazers.
Plus, Dallas played Friday night, earning a 98-89 victory at the Phoenix Suns (15-15). The Mavericks could be fatigued when they face an often energetic Blazers lineup.
Even without Doncic, however, the Mavericks pack a punch. Kyrie Irving usually elevates his play when Doncic is out. Dallas is 6-2 when Doncic sits.
The two defeats came against the Miami Heat (15-13) and the LA Clippers (17-13).
Prediction: The Blazers are due against Dallas. Doncic is out. Dallas is playing the second of a back-to-back. Let’s go with the Blazers on Saturday.

The Portland Trail Blazers will face off against the Dallas Mavericks in what is expected to be an exciting matchup. The game is set to take place on Wednesday, April 14th at 7:30 PM ET.Both teams are currently fighting for playoff positioning in the Western Conference, with the Trail Blazers sitting at the 6th seed and the Mavericks at the 7th seed. This game could have big implications for both teams as they look to secure a spot in the postseason.
The Trail Blazers will be led by their dynamic backcourt duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, who have been putting up impressive numbers all season long. The Mavericks, on the other hand, will rely on their All-Star duo of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis to lead them to victory.
The game will be televised on ESPN, so be sure to tune in to catch all the action. As for a prediction, this game could go either way as both teams are evenly matched. However, I believe the Trail Blazers will come out on top in a close and high-scoring affair. Tune in to see which team will emerge victorious in this crucial matchup.

#Portland #Trail #Blazers #Dallas #Mavericks #Game #preview #prediction #time #channelMavs-Blazers preview: Critical juncture of the season, Irving says
PORTLAND, Ore. – If the Mavericks were going through a schoolyear, and the NBA season certainly resembles a long series of tests, this part of the schedule would be like a mid-term exam.
No, they aren’t to the halfway point of the season yet, but it’s going to feel like a major part of this year’s grade is going to be earned in the next stretch of games.
That’s the thought process from Kyrie Irving. Allow him to explain. It was in response to whether, after playing nearly 40 minutes on Friday at Phoenix in a strong 98-89 win, whether Irving would be able to play on back-to-back nights in Portland Saturday.
“All excuses go out the window,” he said. “For sure (he will play). Come on, man. We can’t drop any games. This is an important part of the season right here.
“This is where a lot of teams either start dropping off or teams start improving and building their identities for their playoff runs. You see trade rumors. So there’s a lot going on, business-wise. But us internally, we feel really good. We just got to pick each other up. That’s what it’s about at this point.”
In part because they are without Luka Dončić until late January, at least, according to numerous reports. That’s going to give a bunch of Mavericks the chance to widen their roles. And it means a selfless approach, one grounded on the defensive end, is going to be their best ally.
And Spencer Dinwiddie, who figures to play a key part in keeping the Mavericks rolling in Luka’s absence, believes this team is well-situated to stay strong during their superstar point guard’s absence.
“I feel like Dallas’ superpower was you always had guys who did their jobs, whether it was the Dorians (Dorian Finney-Smith) or Maxis (Maxi Kleber) or Bullocks (Reggie Bullocks),” Dinwiddie said after the win over Phoenix. “People like that go really unnoticed or guys like myself that have to be dynamic, then be a role player, then be dynamic, then be a role player.
“I think a lot of credit goes to the organization and the coaching staff for being honest with the guys. That’s the true superpower of Dallas. Guys do their jobs.”
And Dinwiddie is in a unique position to know about such things. He’s been a 20-point scorer in the NBA. And he’s been a 15th man. So he knows what roles mean maybe better than anybody in the league.
“Having been in the situation when I was one of the (main) guys, when the other ones are doing their job, it makes it so easy for the Lukas and Kyries to be amazing,” he said. “They don’t have to think as much about the other stuff because all the other stuff is getting done by the other people who are just doing their job.”
Doing those jobs is a critical piece of the puzzle to building a complete team.
Here’s what else to look for when the Mavericks visit the Blazers Saturday night:
- Though they lost six in a row to start December, the Blazers have not stopped competing, particularly at home. They have won their last two games at Moda Center, 126-124 over Denver and 122-120 over Utah. Against the Jazz on Thursday, the Blazers got 27 points from Shaedon Sharp and Deni Avdija, plus a game-winner at the buzzer from Scoot Henderson, who had 18 points and 10 assists off the bench.
- The Mavericks have won both meetings this season, 137-131 in Portland on Dec. 1 and last week in Dallas, 132-108. The final meeting comes Jan. 9 at American Airlines Center.
- Playing back-to-back games hasn’t been a problem for the Mavericks so far. They are 4-1 on the second night of such situations. The Mavericks have won four consecutive trips to Moda Center and have beaten the Blazers six times in a row overall.
- The Mavericks have an impressive 10-6 record on the road, where they spent a large portion of their time in November through the first half of December. It’s only a fraction worse than their home record of 10-5.
- Blazers’ coach Chauncey Billups will miss the game because of the death of his grandmother. Assistant Nate Bjorkgren will take over the head coaching duties.

The Dallas Mavericks are gearing up for a crucial matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers, and star point guard Kyrie Irving believes that this game could be a turning point in their season. With both teams jockeying for playoff positioning in the tough Western Conference, every game is crucial at this point in the season. The Mavericks are currently in a tight race for a top-four seed, while the Blazers are fighting to secure a spot in the postseason.
Irving, who has been a key factor in the Mavericks’ success this season, knows that this game could have major implications for their playoff hopes. “This is a critical juncture of the season for us,” Irving said. “We need to come out with a sense of urgency and play our best basketball if we want to make a deep run in the playoffs.”
The Mavericks will need to bring their A-game against a talented Blazers team led by All-Star guard Damian Lillard. But with Irving leading the charge and a solid supporting cast around him, the Mavericks are confident that they can come out on top.
Be sure to tune in to see the Mavericks take on the Blazers in what promises to be an exciting and pivotal matchup.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Dallas Mavericks Preview
The Portland Trail Blazers will shoot for back-to-back wins after nipping the Utah Jazz 122-120 on Thursday. Deni Avdija and Shaedon Sharpe led all scorers with 27 each, but Scoot Henderson got the glory by hitting the go-ahead shot with .1 seconds left. The game wasn’t a work of art, and it wasn’t against a good team, but Moda Center was rocking as the Blazers gave acting Coach Bjorkgren a win.
All of the news in Dallas is about the Luka Donic injury that will keep him out for at least a month. It’s a devastating blow, but quite possibly not a fatal one. This is still a good team, as evidenced by their 98-89 win over the Suns in Phoenix on Friday night. The Mavs kept the Suns at arms length nearly the entire game, holding them to under 90 points for just the second time this year. Portland will have an extra day’s rest and won’t have to travel, but Dallas is a much better team, seemingly with something to prove.

Blazer’s Edge Reader Questions
Blazerspenwheel:
Wondering why they took Sharpe out at the end of the game vs the Jazz.
Sharpe was in until there were :29 left in the game, at which point he subbed off for Camara to take advantage of his Toumani’s defensive prowess. The clock didn’t stop until after Scoot’s go ahead bucket so there was no opportunity to sub him back in.
Tickets cost too much:
If I ask nicely can I see more of that same closing lineup?
Quite possibly. Deni and Scoot had excellent nights, and as Coach Bjorkgren said in his postgame press conference he rode them the last part of the game because they were playing so well. One might be tempted to attribute this lineup to the coach, but it probably had more to do with circumstances that we just hadn’t seen before. Deni was on fire. Scoot also had a little something that we haven’t seen too often this season. Anfernee Simons struggled most of the night, although he did hit a few big shots in the fourth quarter, while Grant had reasonable stats without putting a big imprint on the game. We haven’t seen that combination of Scoot and Deni thriving while Simons and Grant largely looked on. Maybe Deni and Scoot earned some more crunch-time minutes.
Nurk Dowitzki:
If given the same kind of freedom as Luka, how good could Deni become? On a scale from where he is now to Luka.
At the risk of taking the question too seriously we’ve now had a pretty good look at what the Blazers envisioned when they traded for him. Peak Deni is affordable, energetic and fun. Imagine a few years in future where he has the same role that he had last night but on a good team. Coming off the bench, immediately injecting energy and scoring buckets in bunches. On some nights when he has it cooking, he’s in the the lineup that finishes the game. Other nights, he does his damage solely against the other team’s bench. That’s an incredibly valuable role. Unless he really makes a leap I’m not sure he’s a starter on a contending team though. Let’s hope we get to find out sooner rather than later. In any event it will be fun to see how Bjorkgren utilizes him on Saturday against Dallas.
What to Watch For
Luka won’t be playing, but Dallas is still really good. We’ve seen some teams lose their biggest star to a long injury and collapse, but don’t expect that with Dallas. This team still has Kyrie and a rejuvenated Klay, and it seems like chip on their shoulders to boot. The supporting cast isn’t half bad either. I’m certainly not ready to count the Mavericks out
What Others Are Saying
Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News writes about Klay Thompson passing Reggie Miller on the NBA’s all-time three-point shooting list.
Miller reached 2,560 career 3-pointers in 1,388 games, but Thompson accomplished the feat in just 819 games. Miller played his entire 18-year career with the Indiana Pacers and he’s known for his precise 3-point shooting. He built a reputation of making clutch shots, which Thompson admired.
Are the Mavericks going to roll over after losing Luka Doncic for an extended period? Tyleredsel of Mavs Moneyball doesn’t think so.
Facing this stretch of basketball without Luka Doncic might turn into something that defines the 2024-25 Dallas Mavericks, for better or worse. it’s going to be hard, and it’ll be made even harder by not having their all-world star player available for a long stretch. But what makes special teams special is their ability to get into wounded animal mode and come out on the other side better for it. The Mavericks are there now, and I get the feeling that this team is up for that fight. Now it’s just time to see it.
Zach Kram of The Ringer on the implications of Luka Doncic’s injury.
That’s an obvious blow to last year’s Western Conference champs, who currently sit in fourth place in the West, with a 19-11 record and healthy point differential that indicates a strong chance at another Finals berth. It’s also a blow to Luka’s budding résumé, given that he will now certainly play fewer than 65 games this season and thus not qualify for postseason awards. Combining both team and individual implications, here are the four most important ripple effects from Doncic’s extended absence.
The Portland Trail Blazers are set to take on the Dallas Mavericks in what promises to be an exciting matchup. Both teams are looking to secure a spot in the playoffs, making this game crucial for their postseason aspirations. The Trail Blazers, led by All-Star guard Damian Lillard, have been on a hot streak lately, winning five of their last six games. Lillard has been on fire, averaging over 30 points per game during this stretch. The Blazers will look to continue their winning ways and solidify their position in the Western Conference standings.
On the other hand, the Mavericks, led by superstar Luka Doncic, have been struggling as of late, losing four of their last six games. Doncic, who is averaging nearly a triple-double this season, will need to step up his game and lead his team to victory against the Blazers.
Both teams have a lot at stake in this game, as they are neck and neck in the standings. The Blazers will look to exploit their three-point shooting and offensive firepower, while the Mavericks will rely on their defensive prowess and playmaking abilities.
This game is sure to be a nail-biter, as both teams will leave it all on the court in their quest for a playoff spot. Tune in to see who comes out on top in this highly anticipated matchup between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Dallas Mavericks.

Suns vs. Warriors Prediction, Odds, Preview, Parlay Picks — NBA Saturday
The Phoenix Suns (15-15) and Golden State Warriors (15-15) will square off in the NBA tonight. Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET from the Chase Center in San Francisco. The game will broadcast live on NBA TV.
The Warriors are 6.5-point favorites over the Suns on the spread, with the over/under set at 219.5 total points. Golden State is a -245 favorite to win outright, while Phoenix is +200 to pull off the upset.
Let’s get to my Suns vs. Warriors predictions and NBA picks for Saturday night.
Suns vs. Warriors Prediction, Picks
Spread
The injury report is a bit cloudy, with both teams playing on back-to-back nights. As things currently stand, my model makes Phoenix a 5-point underdog in this spot, but there’s not enough of an edge to warrant a play at the current number of +6.
Moneyline
My model projects a Suns’ moneyline closer to +170, so we are getting some value at +185. However, the uncertainty around the injury report is enough to keep me off the side entirely.
Over/Under
My biggest edge in this game is the total, which I project at 216 points. However, you can still find the under at 219.5 at most shops.
My Pick: Under 219.5 (-110)
Suns vs. Warriors Odds, Spread, Over/Under

Phoenix Suns vs. Golden State Warriors Preview
If you are what your record says you are, then the Suns and Warriors are simply two average teams with .500 records. Both are coming off losses on Friday night, as Devin Booker (groin) missed his fourth straight game for Phoenix, while Golden State’s Stephen Curry (injury management) and Draymond Green (back) also didn’t play.
The Suns have already announced that Booker will miss Saturday’s game, but Golden State’s injury report remains uncertain. Curry could return to the lineup, and Green’s status remains unclear.
One thing that’s clear is both teams have struggled to find consistency with players in and out of the lineup. The Suns’ superstar trio of Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal have already missed 24 games, while Curry and Green are also into double-digits with 10.
It’s also worth noting that these are two of the oldest teams in the league, with Phoenix tied for first with an average age of 27.9 years and Golden State tied for second at 27.7.
The Suns are much more of a half-court team, preferring to play at a slower pace. They rank 23rd in possessions, with 98.3 per game. According to NBA.com, they have the second-highest rate of shot attempts (11.7%) when the shot clock is winding down to four or fewer seconds.
While Durant can often be somewhat of a cheat code given his efficiency, this tendency to wind the clock down bodes well for a team with Golden State’s defensive quality. The Warriors have the eighth-best defensive rating, allowing 109.9 points per 100 possessions.
Lastly, both teams could lack some sharpness in this back-to-back spot. Per our Action Labs database, the under is 3-1 this season when it involves two teams on short rest with an opening total of 220 or fewer points.
Suns vs. Warriors Best Bets, Predictions
After making my case for the under, we can add more value to our wager by targeting a correlated player prop in a same game parlay.
One player who stands out is Golden State’s Dennis Schroder. The Warriors’ guard is still adjusting to his new team after being traded from the Nets.
While Schroder has started all five games with the Warriors, he’s only averaging 26.4 minutes per contest compared to 33.6 when he was in Brooklyn. As a result, his production is also down in the Bay, averaging 8.2 points and 1.4 rebounds from 18.4 points and 3.0 rebounds with the Nets.
Since Curry was unavailable for Friday’s game against the Clippers, one would have thought Schroder would take complete command of the offense to put in a big performance.
However, Schroder played just 24 minutes, finishing with seven points and one rebound. FanDuel lists his points + rebounds prop at 14.5, which he has yet to exceed since joining the Warriors.
Thus, it’s difficult to see him having a more significant effect on Saturday’s game if Curry returns to action.
In this spot, we’re getting tremendous value on the under, and this, combined with our play on the total, helps boost our odds to +205.
Best Bet: Under 219.5
Warriors vs. Suns Parlay Picks
- Under 219.5 (-110)
- Dennis Schroder Under 14.5 Points + Rebounds
Parlay Payout: +205
Suns vs. Warriors Betting Trends
The highly anticipated matchup between the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors is set to take place this Saturday in what promises to be an exciting showdown between two of the top teams in the NBA. Here is a preview of the game along with predictions, odds, and parlay picks:The Suns have been on a tear this season, currently sitting at the top of the Western Conference with a record of 48-10. Led by Devin Booker and Chris Paul, Phoenix has been playing exceptional basketball on both ends of the court. They have a strong defense that ranks among the best in the league and an offense that is capable of putting up big numbers.
On the other hand, the Warriors have also been impressive this season, with a record of 41-17 and sitting at the third spot in the Western Conference. Stephen Curry has been playing at an MVP level and has been carrying the team on his back. Golden State has a strong defense and a deep roster that can step up when needed.
In terms of odds, the Suns are currently favored to win this game, with a spread of -5.5 points. The over/under is set at 225.5 points.
Prediction: This game is expected to be a close one, with both teams playing at a high level. However, the Suns have been more consistent and have the edge in terms of defense. I predict that Phoenix will come out on top in a hard-fought battle.
Parlay Picks: In addition to picking the Suns to win, consider parlaying this bet with the under on the total points. This should increase your potential payout while still keeping the odds in your favor.
Overall, this game is shaping up to be a must-watch for NBA fans, as two of the top teams in the league go head-to-head. Make sure to tune in this Saturday to see who comes out on top in this exciting matchup between the Suns and Warriors.

Pittsburgh has been one of the hottest teams in the NHL over the last month, going 9-3-1 in its last 13 games. Since Nov. 27, the Penguins rank towards the top of the league in multiple categories.
During this 13-game stretch, the Penguins top line of Sidney Crosby, Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell have dominated, combining for 21 goals and 54 points.
Bryan Rust has been one of the hottest players in the NHL during Pittsburgh’s 9-3-1 stretch, recording a team-high 19 points (10G-9A) in 13 games. His 19 points are 10th in the league since Nov. 27, and no player has more goals than his 10.
Rust is one point shy of becoming the 15th player in franchise history to record 400 points. Rust, who was selected in the third round (80th overall) in the 2010 NHL Draft, is looking to become the 20th member of his draft class to reach 400 points. Over the last five seasons, only three members of his draft class have accumulated more points than Rust: Zach Hyman, Brock Nelson and Tyler Toffoli.
Sidney Crosby has been picking up points in bunches having notched 12 points (2G-10A) over his last six games. During that span dating back to Dec. 12, Crosby’s 10 assists are tied for first in the NHL and only Leon Draisaitl (14) has more points than his 12. Crosby enters tonight’s game just one assist shy of surpassing Mario Lemieux (1,033) for the most assists in Penguins history.
Crosby and Lemieux’s 1,033 assists are tied for 12th all-time, and only three players in NHL history have notched more assists with a single team.
Assistant Coach David Quinn has Pittsburgh’s power play firing on all cylinders after going 3-for-3 in the team’s last game on Monday against Philadelphia. The Penguins rank seventh in the NHL in power-play percentage (24.5%) and going back to Nov. 30, only two teams have a better success rate than Pittsburgh’s 33.3%.
Eleven different Penguins have notched a power-play goal this season which matches last year’s total in 82 games. Only Calgary (12) has more players with a power-play goal this year than Pittsburgh (11).
Winger Michael Bunting enters tonight’s game one point shy of 200 in his career. After starting the season with just one assist in his first 12 games, Bunting has notched 17 points (9G-8A) over his last 23 games which is fourth on Pittsburgh during that span.
Of Bunting’s 199 points, 37 (15G-22A) have come with the Penguins over parts of the last two seasons, which is his second-highest total for any team that he’s played for.
Defenseman Erik Karlsson notched his fifth multi-point effort (2A) on Monday prior to the holiday break, giving him five points (1G-4A) over his last four games. Going back further, Karlsson has recorded 12 points (1G-11A) over his last 13 games and in that span, only five NHL blueliners have recorded more points.
After his two assists on Monday, Karlsson became the fourth Penguins defenseman in the past 20 years to record 20 assists in each of his first two seasons with the franchise joining Paul Martin (2010-12) Sergei Gonchar (2005-08) and Ryan Whitney (2005-08).
QUICK HITS
Ryan Graves is set to appear in his 400th NHL game. Drafted in the fourth round (110th overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft, Graves is looking to become the 37th member of his draft class to skate in 400 regular-season games. He’s spent 97 of his 399 games with the Penguins, notching 14 points (3G-11A) and is plus-3.
Evgeni Malkin enters tonight’s game one point shy of tying Hall-of-Famer Gilbert Perreault (1,326) for the 35th-most points in NHL history.
The Penguins own an overall record of 397-90-48 when both Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin record a point in a game.
PENGUINS VS. ISLANDERS
Throughout his career, Sidney Crosby has played dominant hockey against the New York Islanders. In 87 career games, Crosby has recorded 135 points (42G-93A) against the Islanders, helping Pittsburgh to a 51-23-13 record in those games. He has almost double the number of multi-point games against them (40) as opposed to games with no points (22). Only Jaromir Jagr (155) has more points against the Islanders in NHL history than Crosby’s 135. Crosby’s 135 points versus the Islanders are also the most that any active player has against one single team.
Crosby is one of 17 players in NHL history, and the only active player, to have 100 or more points against three or more franchises.
Defenseman Kris Letang leads all active NHL blueliners in goals (13), assists (36) and points (49) versus the Islanders.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are set to take on the New York Islanders on December 28th, 2024 in what promises to be an exciting matchup between two talented teams. The Lightning, led by their star players such as Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman, will be looking to secure a crucial win on the road against the Islanders. The Islanders, on the other hand, will be eager to defend their home ice and come out on top against the Lightning. With skilled players like Mathew Barzal and Anders Lee leading the charge, the Islanders will be a formidable opponent for Tampa Bay.
Both teams have had strong seasons so far, and this game is sure to be a close and competitive one. Fans can expect fast-paced action, highlight-reel plays, and intense battles on both ends of the ice.
Be sure to tune in to see who comes out on top in this exciting showdown between the Lightning and the Islanders. It’s sure to be a game you won’t want to miss!

Game notes
- Well, it’s a quick turnaround for the Boston Bruins tonight as they are back home to complete a back-to-back against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
- Last night? The Bruins will want to quickly forget about it after dropping 6-2 in the two’s second meeting of the season. In the game, Columbus scored three power-play goals and saw two goal nights from Monahan and Dmitri Voronkov. Pavel Zacha picked up the Bruins’ first tally to tie the game, but then the Blue Jackets scored five straight goals. Charlie Coyle had seven shots on net last night, registering one goal. Marchenko and Voronkov each had three points in the win for their team while Werenski picked up four assists.
- “Bad line changes. They exploited us there,” Interim head coach Joe Sacco said yesterday following the loss. The Bruins will look to clean up their second-period play as well as their game management which led Columbus to capitalize when they did.
- The Bruins haven’t been able to beat the Blue Jackets yet this season. They are 0-2-0 against Columbus heading into this final season-series game. The first loss was the 5-1 decision which led to Jim Montgomery’s firing.
- Brad Marchand enters tonight’s game on an 11-game point streak. He picked up an assist on Coyle’s goal — which also put Coyle on a three-game goal streak.
- After leaving Monday’s game, David Pastrnak logged 18:11 TOI with six shots in yesterday’s loss.
- For Columbus, Werenski now has seven assists in his last two games. Voronkov is on a six-game point streak with five goals and five assists. Marchenko is on a seven-game point streak with four goals and nine assists.
- See ya tonight!

Game Preview #39: New Jersey Devils @ Carolina Hurricanes
The Matchup: New Jersey Devils (24-11-3) @ Carolina Hurricanes (21-13-1)
The Time: 7:00pm ET
The Broadcast: MSGSN2, FDSNSO, Devils Radio Network
Last Time Out
Usually I have different sections for “Last Devils Game”, “Last (Opponent) Game”, and “Last Devils-(Opponent) Game”. But considering this is the second half of a home-and-home, I can conveniently consolidate it into one section. Last night New Jersey defeated Carolina 4-2 at The Rock. Luke Hughes led the way with two points (a goal and an assist), and Jacob Markstrom was superb in net, stopping 29 of 31 shots.
Any Big Changes?
Aside from different goalies, I would not expect many changes for either side tonight. Jacob Markstrom got the call on Friday. His shutout streak came to an end, but it was still a strong game for Markstrom. He put up a .935 Save% while saving exactly one goal above expected according to Natural Stat Trick. Expect Jake Allen to start this evening. Meanwhile Pyotr Kochetkov manned the Carolina net last night, so Dustin Tokarski is expected to get the nod in Raleigh.
The only other change I can see happening is Curtis Lazar drawing back into the lineup. Lazar missed over a month with a leg injury and returned for one game last week before sitting again due to apparently reaggravating his injury. It was mostly precautionary, as head coach Sheldon Keefe said he expected Lazar back after the Christmas break. Well we didn’t see him last night, but Keefe stated he didn’t want to throw him into both ends of a back-to-back coming off his injury. So Lazar sat last night, and we very well may see him replace Justin Dowling on the fourth line this evening.
In case you need a reminder, here’s how each team lined up last night. First the Devils:
And now the Hurricanes:
It Was Fun While It Lasted
We all knew the streak was ending last night, right?
Entering Friday’s game, the Devils had allowed 20 or fewer shots against in seven consecutive games. That was the longest streak the NHL has seen since the league started tracking shots on goal.
That wildly impressive run came to an end last night against Carolina. Of course it did. The Hurricanes’ entire offensive system essentially boils down to “Fling the puck in the general direction of the net at every opportunity and hope it goes in”. Carolina is a shot-generating machine, so it’s no surprise New Jersey allowed more than 20 shots last night. The streak is over, but all good things must come to an end. I have a feeling it will be a very long time until another team puts together a stretch of defensive hockey that dominant again. The Devils should be proud of their accomplishment.
28 Days Later
On November 30th, the Devils lost 6-5 to the Washington Capitals. In that game, Justin Dowling scored a second period goal, his second of the season. It has been 28 days since that goal, and with one exception, that was the last time a forward outside of the top-6 has found the back of the net.
That one exception would be Dawson Mercer, who scored last night. Since that game on November 30th, Mercer has scored two other times in that span, both against the Rangers, on December 2nd and December 23rd. Mercer has spent a good amount of time in the top-6 this season though, so even counting Mercer as a bottom-6 member feels like cheating. And in fact one of his three goals since the end of November came on the power play, not while on a third line shift. Heck, even his goal last night was assisted by Jack Hughes during a partial line change. But even if you do count Mercer as a bottom-6 forward, the point still stands: New Jersey has not gotten much point production out of their depth forwards in a long time.
Four of the six defensemen on the club have scored in that time (the exceptions being the shutdown pair of Jonas Siegenthaler and Johnny Kovacevic), but none of the bottom-6 forwards. Erik Haula, Paul Cotter, Tomas Tatar, Nate Bastian, Kurtis MacDermid, and Dowling…not one goal to be found. It hasn’t harmed the Devils much, as the team has continued to pile up the wins thanks in large part due to the defensive efforts of the bottom-6. So it’s not like they’re complete dead weight. But the fact remains that New Jersey could really stand to get more production out of the third and fourth lines. I’m not too concerned considering how much the team as a whole, including the bottom two lines, have controlled play. At some point the pucks will start finding holes. But yeah, it would be nice if that could start happening sooner rather than later.
Back-to-Back Tracker
Another second half of a back-to-back for the Devils tonight. After struggling mightily last year in those situations, this season New Jersey is 1-3-1 in second halves of back-to-backs so far. Their only win came against the Buffalo Sabres in the season-opening two-game series in Prague, so the Devils have lost four straight in these scenarios.
This team’s ineptitude during the second half of back-to-backs played a huge role in sinking their playoff hopes in 2023-24. This season as a whole has been going much better than last year, but 1-3-1 during these game types is still not good enough. The Devils need to figure out how to play back-to-backs. If they can find a way to win tonight, not only would that be an encouraging sign that New Jersey might be turning their fortunes around in back-to-backs, but they could put some serious distance between them and the Hurricanes in the Metropolitan Division standings.
ThirdFourth Time’s The Charm
I am once again asking for a four-game winning streak.
Since a five-game winning streak from January 7th-16th, 2023, the Devils have not posted a winning streak of more than three games (and on the flip side of the coin they have only a single losing streak of four games or more since January of 2023 as well).
I went back and looked. Since that five-game heater, the Devils have had 11 different three-game winning streaks (three in 2022-23, four in 2023-24, and four so far in 2024-25 including the one they’re currently on). A loss has followed every single time.
0-for-10, with today being the 11th crack at it. Please make it 1-for-11 tonight.
Your Take
What are you anticipating for tonight’s game? Do you expect to see any major changes from either side? As always, thanks for reading!
The New Jersey Devils are set to take on the Carolina Hurricanes in an exciting matchup tonight. The Devils have been struggling as of late, but are looking to turn things around and secure a much-needed win. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are riding high on a winning streak and are looking to extend their dominance on home ice. Both teams have a lot on the line in this game, with the Devils fighting to stay in playoff contention and the Hurricanes looking to solidify their position as one of the top teams in the league. It’s sure to be a fast-paced and intense game, with plenty of scoring opportunities and exciting plays.
Key players to watch for the Devils include leading scorer Jack Hughes and goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood, who will need to be at the top of their game to shut down the Hurricanes’ high-powered offense. On the Hurricanes side, look out for Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov, who have been lighting up the scoreboard all season long.
Overall, this game promises to be a thrilling battle between two talented teams. Be sure to tune in and catch all the action as the Devils take on the Hurricanes in what is sure to be a game to remember. Let’s go Devils! #NJDevils #CarolinaHurricanes #NHL #GamePreview

New Jersey Devils at Carolina Hurricanes: Preview and Game Thread
A loud Lenovo Center will be packed to welcome the Carolina Hurricanes back from a rough road trip and Holiday Break tonight. The New Jersey Devils and Canes get right back at it, this time on the Canes’ home ice, after the Devils took round three 4-2 last night.
The Canes come back to Lenovo after a four game road trip that saw them go 1-3, with the lone win coming against the flatlining Rangers. It’s a 5-6-0 funk the Canes are now in, and after a hot start the Canes have sunk into a solid third place in the Metropolitan Divison. They are five points back of the Washington Capitals and eight points back of these Devils—though the Devils have still played three more games than the Canes and the Canes will still have three games in hand after tonight.
The Canes will look to take their 13-4-0 record at Lenovo and recover against New Jersey’s second goalie Jake Allen. Allen currently is 5-5 on the season with a 2.79 GAA and .900 save percentage. He’s lost his last three in a row and has given up 12 goals in those three starts. He also hasn’t been between the pipes since December 19th. The hope is that the Canes are able to play the same game they did Friday but this time against a goalie who won’t make the saves of a Jacob Markstrom
On the other side of the ice, the Canes will probably start Dustin Tokarski in the second night of the back-to-back. So far he’s 1-1 this season, beating Columbus while falling at Nashville this past Monday. His win against Columbus was stellar, and the home crowd should help provide the support they need.
The bigger issue for the Canes is the folks who recently signed big extensions: Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, Martin Necas, and Seth Jarvis have mostly gone missing from a goal scoring stand point. Despite Brind’Amour doing more blending than a Smoothie King, these players just haven’t been able to get sparked. There’s still pllenty of time, and the Canes have the luxury of a six point bump over the Pittsburgh Penguins for fourth in the Metro to figure things out.
After tonight, the Canes get their last two day break for two weeks, as the thirteen day span from December 31-January 12 sees the Canes play eight games. While five of the eight will be at home, the two road games will see them battle the two Florida teams battling at the top of the Atlantic, including the rescheduled road opener against Tampa Bay. The real grind of the season has begun, and the sooner the Canes can break out of a funk and go on a run, the better.
So those are the stakes tonight as the red sweater-clad Canes will take on the Devils. The game is going to be sold out, so if you aren’t going to be there, here’s how you can catch the action:
- Time: 7:00 PM ET
- Location: Lenovo Center, Raleigh, NC
- TV: FanDuel Sports Network South with Mike Maniscalco, play-by-play; Tripp Tracy, color analyst; Hanna Yates, in-game reporter; Shane Willis, analyst.
- Radio: 99.9 The Fan
- Line: ML: CAR -135; PL: CAR -1.5 +190
The New Jersey Devils will be facing off against the Carolina Hurricanes in what promises to be an exciting match-up. The Devils are currently sitting at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, while the Hurricanes are in the middle of the pack. The Devils will be looking to bounce back from a recent losing streak and secure a much-needed win on the road. They will be relying on key players such as Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier to lead the way on offense, while goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood will be tasked with shutting down the Hurricanes’ potent offense.
On the other hand, the Hurricanes will be looking to continue their winning ways and solidify their position in the playoff race. With players like Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov leading the charge, the Hurricanes have a strong offensive attack that can put pressure on any defense.
This game is sure to be a competitive and fast-paced affair, with both teams hungry for a victory.
