  • Preview: Getafe vs. Sevilla – prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday’s La Liga clash between Getafe and Sevilla, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Getafe will be bidding to stretch their unbeaten run in all competitions to six matches when they continue their La Liga campaign with a home fixture against Sevilla on Saturday afternoon.

The home side, who are 14th in the La Liga table, will enter the match off the back of a 3-0 victory over Real Sociedad, while 12th-placed Sevilla picked up a point in a 1-1 draw with Espanyol last time out.

    Match preview

Getafe were outstanding against Real Sociedad on Sunday night, recording a 3-0 victory at Reale Arena; the win proved to be just their fifth in the league this season, and it moved them into 14th spot in the table.

Jose Bordalas‘s side are now three points clear of the relegation zone and only four points off 11th, demonstrating the importance of their result last time out, and they will bring a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions into this clash.

It has been a successful start to 2025 for the capital outfit, booking their spot in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, while they have picked up seven points from their last three league matches against Las Palmas, Barcelona and Real Sociedad.

If Getafe can improve their goal output in the coming weeks, then that should see them rise the table, as the Deep Blue Ones have the joint-second best defensive record in the league this term, only conceding 17 times in 21 matches.

Getafe have only been beaten on two occasions in front of their own supporters this season, and they will be welcoming a Sevilla outfit that have just two victories from their 10 league matches on their travels.

Sevilla manager Garcia Pimienta on September 14, 2024© Imago

Sevilla, meanwhile, are also unbeaten in La Liga this year, drawing with Valencia and Espanyol either side of a 2-1 success over Girona, and a total of 27 points from 21 matches has left them in 12th spot in the table.

Los Nervionenses have a record of seven wins, six draws and eight defeats in La Liga this term, and they are only actually three points off sixth-placed Mallorca, so a European spot in the table is within reach.

Garcia Pimienta‘s side have been strong at home this season, but they have found it difficult on their travels, picking up just nine points from 10 matches, while 20 goals have been conceded away from their own stadium in 2024-25.

Sevilla recorded a 1-0 victory over Getafe when the two teams locked horns for the reverse match earlier this season, while they also posted a 1-0 win in the corresponding fixture during the 2023-24 campaign.

Getafe have also won two of their last four meetings in Spain’s top flight, though, and this is shaping up to be an interesting battle between two sides that will be feeling good about themselves at this moment in time.

    Team News

Getafe's Borja Mayoral celebrates a goal on September 22, 2024© Imago

Getafe will be without the services of Allan Nyom due to a muscular problem, while Mauro Arambarri remains a doubt with a muscular issue of his own.

The home side will also be unable to call upon the services of Omar Alderete, who is suspended, with the centre-back picking up a milestone yellow card in the 3-0 win over Real Sociedad.

Juan Berrocal is expected to benefit from Alderete’s absence to feature in the middle of the defence, while Carles Perez‘s two-goal showing off the bench against Real Sociedad is expected to see him come into the side in place of Alex Sola; Borja Mayoral, though, may again start on the bench for the home team.

As for Sevilla, Isaac Romero and Adria Pedrosa will be back in the squad after serving suspensions in the clash with Espanyol.

Garcia Pimienta’s side did not suffer any fresh fitness problems last time out, but they are again expected to be without the services of Kike Salas, Joan Jordan, Rafa Mir and Tanguy Nianzou on Saturday afternoon.

Romero’s return could see Peque Fernandez drop down to the bench against Getafe, but there will be another start in a wide area for Dodi Lukebakio, who has scored nine times in La Liga during an impressive campaign.

    Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Iglesias, Duarte, Berrocal, Rico; Perez, Milla, Dakonam, Coba; Uche, Yildirim

    Sevilla possible starting lineup:
Nyland; Sanchez, Bade, Gudelj, Pedrosa; Sow, Lokonga, Saul; Lukebakio, Romero, Vargas

    SM words green background

    We say: Getafe 1-1 Sevilla

Both sides are in strong form, and we are finding it difficult to separate them here; Sevilla are not the best travellers, but Getafe have only won three times at home in the league this term, drawing six, and we are predicting another stalemate here.

Getafe will host Sevilla in a crucial La Liga clash on Sunday, with both teams looking to secure a victory to boost their European hopes. Here is a preview of the match including prediction, team news, and potential lineups.

    Prediction:
Getafe and Sevilla have had mixed fortunes in recent weeks, with Getafe struggling for consistency and Sevilla showing glimpses of their potential. However, Sevilla have a strong record against Getafe in recent meetings and are likely to come out on top in this match. I predict a 2-1 win for Sevilla.

    Team News:
Getafe will be without the services of striker Enes Unal, who is sidelined with an injury. However, they will welcome back midfielder Nemanja Maksimovic from suspension. Sevilla, on the other hand, have a fully fit squad to choose from, with no major injury concerns.

    Potential Lineups:
Getafe: Soria; Suarez, Dakonam, Cabaco, Olivera; Nyom, Arambarri, Maksimovic, Cucurella; Mata, Hernandez.

  • Nottingham Forest are winless in their last three Premier League meetings with Brighton (D1 L2), having been unbeaten in their previous eight top-flight matches against the Seagulls (W6 D2).

  • Brighton won this exact fixture 3-2 last season – they’ve never before won consecutive away league games against Nottingham Forest.

  • Nottingham Forest’s eight game unbeaten run came to an end last time out at Bournemouth, conceding more goals in that defeat (5) as they did in their previous seven Premier League games combined (4). Only once previously this season have they lost consecutive league matches, doing so in November against Newcastle and Arsenal.

  • Brighton’s six game unbeaten run was ended last time out at home to Everton. The Seagulls have won just two of their last 11 Premier League games (D6 L3) and could lose consecutive matches for the first time since ending last season with back-to-back defeats.

  • Nottingham Forest have won six of their last eight Premier League home games (D1 L1), with five of those six victories coming by a one goal margin. This is just the second time they are kicking off at 12:30 on a Saturday since their return to the Premier League, beating Liverpool 1-0 at the City Ground in October 2022 in their only previous game.

  • Brighton have scored the opening goal in 10 of their 12 Premier League away games this season (including in each of their last five), more than any other side. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest have gone 1-0 up in 18 of their 23 league games overall this term, the most in the division.

  • Only Erling Haaland (17), Alexander Isak (16) and Mohamed Salah (14) have scored more non penalty goals in the Premier League this season than Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood (12). Wood has scored more goals against Brighton (9) than he has against any other side in his English league career.

  • Brighton’s João Pedro has six goal involvements in his last eight away appearances in the Premier League (2 goals, 4 assists), also netting a brace at the City Ground back in November 2023.

  • The average distance of Nottingham Forest’s goal kicks in the Premier League this season has been 43.7 metres, the highest of any side, while 121 of those have ended in the attacking half, 26 more than any other team. By contrast, only three sides have taken goal kicks at a shorter average distance than Brighton this campaign (23.4 metres).

  • Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina has taken 35 throw-ins that have ended in the opposition’s penalty area in the Premier League this season, seven more than any other player. In total, Forest have taken 56 throws that end in the opposition box, with only Brentford doing so more often (60).

  • SSU interim president grants exclusive interview to Press Democrat. Here’s a preview.

In her first media appearance since the Jan. 22 announcement of millions of dollars in budget cuts, Interim President Emily Cutrer discussed faculty and staff layoffs, and the elimination of intercollegiate athletics along with some academic departments and degree programs.

Sonoma State University Interim President Emily Cutrer sat down with Press Democrat reporters Friday in her first media appearance since the Jan. 22 announcement of millions of dollars in budget cuts. Those cuts include faculty and staff layoffs and the elimination of intercollegiate athletics, as well as some academic departments and degree programs.

Cutrer expressed compassion for the campus community’s shock, anger and grief but was resolute that the cuts were a last and necessary resort to address SSU’s $24 million deficit.

“A lot of the programs that we will be losing have done everything right in terms of the education,” she said, “But we’re in a financial crisis. And, it’s not just us. We’re on the leading edge of dealing with it, but you’re going to see more or less the same thing going on at different institutions around the nation.”

Cutrer also responded to criticism that SSU leadership has failed to articulate a clear vision for the institution going forward, or strategies to revive enrollment, under the specter of deep cuts and crisis.

She discussed a lack of recruitment and marketing in the past, and a plan to double down on relationships with community colleges and high schools, attract older students and cater academic offerings to the needs of local businesses.

“We need to be out there in the community doing even more than we are right now, which means more and more community partnerships,” she said. “We’ve got some, but we need more.”

Look out for the full interview in the Press Democrat’s Sunday edition in print and online.

Jasmine Jasudavicius vs Mayra Bueno Silva (Women’s Flyweight)

Bogdan Grad vs Lucas Alexander (Featherweight)

Hamdy Abdelwahab vs Jamal Pogues (Heavyweight)

Fares Ziam: Fresh off Performance of the Night display

Fares Ziam (16-4) had won his three previous fights by decision but he made a real statement last time out as he stopped Matt Frevola with a knee to earn a Performance of the Night bonus in September. That put a marker down for the lightweight who has won six of his last seven bouts in the UFC and his only loss was a submission defeat at the hands of Terrance McKinney. The win over Frevola was the first fight of a new four-bout contract and he will now look to kick on in the division and make some strides up the rankings.

Mike Davis: New Yorker on four-fight win streak

Mike Davis (11-2) showed he had not missed a beat after 18 months out of action as he returned last March to pick up a submission win over Natan Levy. That was his fourth win in a row but his inactivity means this is just his fifth fight in the last five years and he will be eager to make up for lost time after a series of injury issues. He comes off a torn bicep which ruled him out of a fight last July but now takes on Ziam as he looks to make it five in a row.

Fares Ziam vs Mike Davis Prediction

This card has a series of really closely-matched bouts on it and this one between Fares Ziam and Mike Davis is another of those.

Both fighters have won their last four fights and it will be interesting to see who can keep their streak going.

Ziam has been a bit more pragmatic in the manner of his victories and at times he has had to grind his way to victory. Davis has impressed a bit more with a couple of stoppages and he does possess good knockout power in his striking.

There really is little to choose between the two fighters but we like Ziam’s activity. It will not be easy for Davis coming off another injury especially against a high-calibre opponent. Ziam may just be worth a punt and as the marginal underdog, we feel like the value is on him in this one.

    Prediction: Fares Ziam to win

Fares Ziam vs Mike Davis at UFC Fight Night 250 | Preview & Prediction

This weekend at UFC Fight Night 250, two exciting lightweight prospects will clash as Fares Ziam takes on Mike Davis in what promises to be a thrilling matchup.

Fares Ziam, hailing from France, is a talented striker with a crisp jab and excellent footwork. He has shown great potential in his UFC career so far, with a well-rounded skill set that includes solid takedown defense and slick submissions.

On the other hand, Mike Davis, an American fighter known for his explosive striking and aggressive style, will be looking to bounce back from a recent loss. Davis is a dangerous opponent with knockout power in both hands and a relentless pace that can overwhelm his opponents.

In this matchup, I believe that Fares Ziam’s technical striking and defensive abilities will give him the edge over Mike Davis. Ziam’s ability to control the distance and pick his shots will be crucial in this fight, as he looks to outpoint Davis and secure the victory.

Prediction: Fares Ziam by unanimous decision

Don’t miss this exciting lightweight showdown at UFC Fight Night 250, as Fares Ziam and Mike Davis look to make a statement in the stacked 155-pound division. Stay tuned for what promises to be a thrilling fight night!

Terrance McKinney vs Damir Hadzovic (Lightweight)

Jasmine Jasudavicius vs Mayra Bueno Silva (Women’s Flyweight)

Bogdan Grad vs Lucas Alexander (Featherweight)

Hamdy Abdelwahab vs Jamal Pogues (Heavyweight)

Bogdan Grad: Austrian debutant aiming to make mark in UFC

Bogdan Grad (14-2) took his second chance in Dana White’s Contender Series in August 2024 as he earned a split decision win over Michael Aswell. He previously tried his luck through the Contender Series the previous year but suffered a knockout loss to Tom Nolan in what was his only loss in his last nine fights. Otherwise, Grad has been on a tear with six stoppages in those eight wins and he will now look to make his mark on his promotion debut.

Lucas Alexander: The Lion looking to bounce back from knockout loss

Lucas Alexander (8-4) will have to come back from having suffered the first knockout loss of his pro MMA career last time out. He was knocked out in the first round against Jeka Saragih at UFC Fight Night 232 back in November 2023 but there has been 15 months between fights to help him recover and bounce back so he will be eager to go here. The Brazilian had been on a tear to earn his shot in the UFC riding a five-fight win streak and three consecutive knockout wins, but he has lost two of his three fights since joining the promotion and he will knows he needs a win here to stay relevant.

Bogdan Grad vs Lucas Alexander Prediction

The second bout on the card is another close one to call given the lack of experience of both fighters at this level.

Bogdan Grad has shown good development in getting to this level but so many of his fights have come at a lower level. In the two opportunities he had via Dana White’s Contender Series, he was knocked out in the first and then grabbed a split decision win in the second to earn this opportunity. It has not been plain sailing for him.

Lucas Alexander does have more experience having fought three times in the Octagon but he has lost two of those.

We marginally favour his experience at this level and one of those losses did come at the hands of Joanderson Brito who has shown himself to be a handy operator. That could well be key for Alexander in this crunch bout for both fighters.

Both are explosive and this fight and the method of victory are both pretty unpredictable. We can see a little caution in both fighters here so would be no surprise to see it go the distance, but Alexander just about gets our vote.

    Prediction: Lucas Alexander to win

UFC Fight Night 250 is just around the corner and one of the most highly anticipated matchups on the card is between Bogdan Grad and Lucas Alexander. Both fighters are known for their explosive fighting styles and this bout is expected to be a barnburner.

Bogdan Grad, a rising star in the UFC’s welterweight division, is coming off an impressive win in his last fight and is looking to continue his momentum. With a strong striking game and solid grappling skills, Grad poses a serious threat to anyone in the division.

On the other hand, Lucas Alexander is a seasoned veteran with a wealth of experience inside the octagon. Known for his knockout power and aggressive fighting style, Alexander is always a dangerous opponent for anyone he faces.

In this matchup, expect a back-and-forth battle with both fighters looking to impose their will on the other. Grad will look to keep the fight standing and use his striking to wear down Alexander, while Alexander will be looking to land a big shot and end the fight early.

Prediction: This fight has all the makings of a Fight of the Night contender, but in the end, I see Bogdan Grad coming out on top with a unanimous decision victory. His well-rounded skill set and ability to control the pace of the fight will be the key to his success in this matchup.

Make sure to tune in to UFC Fight Night 250 to catch all the action and see who comes out on top in this exciting welterweight showdown.

Bogdan Grad vs Lucas Alexander (Featherweight)

Hamdy Abdelwahab vs Jamal Pogues (Heavyweight)

Terrance McKinney: American vet seeking to bounce back from fifth career-KO loss

Terrance McKinney (15-7) is coming off a head kick knockout loss by Esteban Ribovics last May and that was the fifth time he has been stopped by KO/TKO. His punch resistance appears to be waning but his fights continue to be hugely entertaining. 18 of his 22 bouts have ended in the first round regardless of the outcome and none of his fights have ever gone the distance. There will be no change in approach from the 30-year-old coming into this one as he will look for the spectacular finish as he always does.

Damir Hadzovic: Bosnian-Danish star needs win after three losses in last four

Damir Hadzovic (14-7) has lost three of his last four fights but the Bosnian-Danish star will be hoping time out of the Octagon will help him come back refreshed. He has not fought since July 2022 although he was due to fight in February last year but visa issues put paid to that fight against Bolaji Oki. The 38-year-old will know just how important this fight is to his future prospects in the organisation, but he will have to overcome any rust ahead of this bout.

Terrance McKinney vs Damir Hadzovic Prediction

This bout has the hallmarks of being one of the more entertaining ones on the prelims at UFC Fight Night 250.

Terrance McKinney is never involved in a boring fight and he takes on Damir Hadzovic who has not fought in two and a half years.

It is hard to make a case for Hadzovic after so long out of action. McKinney is always one punch away from winning or losing a fight but he has been active and will be motivated to get back to winning ways.

We have to side with McKinney in this one. Hadzovic was not tearing up any trees before his absence and it is hard to see a change in fortunes after so long out of action.

Prediction: Terrance McKinney to win via KO/TKO or submission

Terrance McKinney vs Damir Hadzovic at UFC Fight Night 250 | Preview & Prediction

In an exciting lightweight matchup, Terrance McKinney will take on Damir Hadzovic at UFC Fight Night 250. Both fighters are known for their aggressive fighting styles and have the potential to put on a show for fans.

McKinney is coming off an impressive UFC debut where he secured a stunning seven-second knockout victory over Matt Frevola. His speed and power make him a dangerous opponent for anyone in the division. Hadzovic, on the other hand, is a seasoned veteran with a well-rounded skill set. He has shown his ability to finish fights both on the feet and on the ground.

This matchup has all the makings of a barnburner, with both fighters looking to make a statement in the lightweight division. McKinney will look to continue his momentum and prove that his debut was no fluke, while Hadzovic will be aiming to bounce back from a recent loss and solidify his spot in the rankings.

In terms of prediction, I believe McKinney’s explosive striking and athleticism will give him the edge in this matchup. I predict that he will be able to use his speed and power to overwhelm Hadzovic and secure a victory, possibly by knockout. However, Hadzovic is a tough and experienced fighter who should not be counted out, so fans can expect an exciting and competitive fight.

Be sure to tune in to UFC Fight Night 250 to catch all the action between McKinney and Hadzovic, as well as other exciting matchups on the card. It’s sure to be a night full of thrilling fights and memorable moments.

Hamdy Abdelwahab: Egyptian returns after two-year USADA suspension

Hamdy Abdelwahab (5-0 with one no contest) is coming off over two years out through a USADA suspension so the Egyptian heavyweight will be desperate to make up for lost time. He did actually pick up a split decision win on his UFC debut against Don’Tale Mayes at UFC 277 in July 2022 but he subsequently failed a drugs test so that was changed to a no contest. He had knocked out all five opponents prior to that fight and the Egyptian powerhouse will be looking for a stoppage on his return to action here.

Jamal Pogues: The Stormtrooper aiming to make it three wins in four in the Octagon

Jamal Pogues (11-4) returns to action almost a year since his last fight and he will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in the Octagon for the first time. After winning on his UFC debut by unanimous decision against Josh Parisian, he then suffered a loss the same way to Mick Parkin. Last time out, he met Thomas Petersen at UFC Fight Night 235 and he got the nod on the scorecards there so he will be eager to follow that up here.

Hamdy Abdelwahab vs Jamal Pogues Prediction

We have a heavyweight match-up to kick things off at UFC Fight Night 250 and it promises to be an intriguing bout between Hamdy Abdelwahab and Jamal Pogues.

Hamdy Abdelwahab will come into the bout looking for a knockout and that is his principle route to victory. Pogues on the other hand will look to control the bout, use his stamina to take Abdelwahab deep into the fight and he will fancy his chances of winning if he can take it the distance.

Abdelwahab has not fought in over two and a half years and it will be interesting to see if there is any rust in his game.

The bookies have this bout pretty evenly-matched but for all Abdelwahab’s hype, it will take an impressive performance to get a win here. We just edge the factors in Pogues favour to win and it will likely come on the scorecards.

Prediction: Jamal Pogues to win via decision

UFC Fight Night 250 is set to feature an exciting matchup between Hamdy Abdelwahab and Jamal Pogues in the light heavyweight division. Both fighters are looking to make a statement and climb the ranks in one of the most competitive weight classes in the UFC.

Abdelwahab, a talented striker with a background in Muay Thai, will be looking to use his crisp striking and devastating knockout power to finish Pogues early in the fight. With a record of 12 wins and 3 losses, Abdelwahab is known for his aggressive fighting style and ability to finish fights in spectacular fashion.

On the other hand, Pogues, a well-rounded fighter with a background in wrestling, will be looking to use his grappling skills to control the fight and wear down Abdelwahab. With a record of 8 wins and 3 losses, Pogues is known for his relentless pressure and ability to dominate his opponents on the ground.

In this highly anticipated matchup, it will be interesting to see if Abdelwahab’s striking can overcome Pogues’ grappling and wrestling skills. If Abdelwahab can keep the fight standing and land his power shots, he will have a good chance of coming out on top. However, if Pogues can take the fight to the ground and control the action, he will have a good chance of securing a victory.

Overall, this matchup has all the makings of an exciting and closely contested fight. Both fighters have the skills and determination to come out on top, but only one will emerge victorious. Tune in to UFC Fight Night 250 to see who will come out on top in this thrilling light heavyweight showdown.

Prediction: Hamdy Abdelwahab via TKO in the second round.

    (11-4, 2-1 UFC)

    ODDS: Abdelwahab (-112), Pogues (-108)

Two and a half years after his impressive UFC debut, Abdelwahab
returns to the Octagon. A former Olympic wrestler for his native
Egypt, Abdelwahab was a worthy enough flier for the UFC in 2022 on
that background alone, and he at least showed the ability to
quickly knock out some low-level competition during his brief mixed
martial arts career. Abdelwahab’s UFC debut win over Don’Tale
    Mayes
wasn’t particularly pretty, but it was something to build
on. When he proved unable to knock Mayes out early, Abdelwahab did
well to just keep pressuring and throwing out volume, even if he
did tire and run out of ideas. However, Abdelwahab was pulled out
of a subsequent booking due to a failed drug test, but the UFC did
stick by him after that screen and after he failed a subsequent
test, so he now makes his return against Pogues. Syndicate MMA’s
Pogues has won two out of his three UFC fights to date, but it’s
still hard to tell exactly what to make of “The Stormtrooper.”
Pogues was a solid prospect as a regional light heavyweight, as he
was able to impose himself as a bully with his wrestling. Things
have been much more of a mixed bag since he’s now clearly a
full-time heavyweight. His wrestling is effective in spots, and he
has some fast hands combined with some low power, making for a lot
of close and aimless affairs. Pogues could just survive and outlast
the Egyptian, but even an exhausted Abdelwahab figures to be
stronger and more potent than the American down the stretch. As
long as the layoff and drug test failures don’t affect him, this
looks like Abdelwahab’s fight to lose. The pick is Abdelwahab via
    decision.

  • Sergei Pavlovich vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik: Odds, full fight preview and prediction | UFC Saudi Arabia

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight sluggers Sergei Pavlovich vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik will go to war this weekend (Sat., Feb. 1, 2025) at UFC Saudi Arabia from anb Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

It’s hard to describe the loss of aura suffered by Pavlovich in just two fights. The fearsome Russian boxer looked every part of a future champion in his six-fight knockout streak, refusing to let a single foe escape the first round. Getting blasted by Tom Aspinall was forgivable enough, especially since he managed to stun the current interim king too, but getting picked apart by former team mate Alexander Volkov for three full rounds?

    Nobody is scared anymore.

Rozenstruik has stepped into the cage with plenty of huge hitters anyway. The former professional kickboxer has won three of his last four, most recently pummeling Tai Tuivasa. Generally, he still seems to be improving, so perhaps the 36-year-old veteran hasn’t hit his ceiling just yet?

Let’s take a closer look at the betting odds and strategic keys for each athlete:

    How Pavlovich Wins

Pavlovich is a tank. Despite a background in Greco-Roman wrestling and Combat Sambo, Pavlovich more typically wins fights by clubbing his foes into unconsciousness with his heavy right hand.

Why wasn’t that right hand able to land against Volkov? Pavlovich really failed to close distance on his lanky opponent. Likely, Rozenstruik will try to employ a similar game plan and attempt to strand Pavlovich at distance, even if he’s not quite as rangy as “Drago.”

The keys to avoiding a repeat struggle are feints and footwork. Pavlovich cannot just run forward on a straight line at a dangerous counter puncher … well, okay, maybe he can, but that would make the outcome much more of a coin flip on who lands first. If instead he takes the time to cut off the cage and feint/jab Rozenstruik towards the fence, he stands a much better chance at safely scoring the same knockout.

    How Rozenstruik Wins

Rozenstruik is a crafty kickboxing veteran. He excels at playing the long game, poking and prodding his opponents with quick jabs and light kicks. Then, when they return fire, he’ll sit them down with a check hook or counter combination.

That’s a great strategy against Pavlovich. The problem is the Francis Ngannou fight, in which “The Predator” bulldozed Rozenstruik by charging through his half-power offense with a very real blitz of heavy shots. Ngannou and Pavlovich have a similar level of world-altering power, and Rozenstruik doesn’t want to get blasted by a wild combo again.

To avoid that fate, Rozenstruik has to find a way to halt Pavlovich’s advance, which will buy him time to line up bigger counter shots. Volkov did so with snappy front kicks and counter right hands, but the body jab may end up Rozenstruik’s weapon of choice. If he can fire a stiff jab into the chest of Pavlovich when the Russian advances, it will help keep him and that clubbing right hand out of range.

Rozenstruik will have to stand his ground a bit in the process, but that’s a better recipe for success than sliding backwards and getting caught at the end of a flurry.

    Pavlovich vs. Rozenstruik Prediction

Even without his momentum, it’s tough to go against Sergei Pavlovich here.

Pavlovich will be the larger, faster, and more powerful man. At Heavyweight, those physical factors are the deciders more often not. Volkov may have been able to avoid his haymakers, but “Drago” also had a significant height advantage and plenty of training experience to aid him. Rozenstruik doesn’t have either of those edges, and he’s never shown to be a particularly crafty defensive fighter.

In a Heavyweight firefight, you might as well side with the guy bringing a bazooka.

    Prediction: Pavlovich via knockout

Sergei Pavlovich and Jairzinho Rozenstruik are set to go head-to-head in a highly anticipated heavyweight showdown at UFC Saudi Arabia. Both fighters are known for their knockout power and aggressive fighting styles, making this a must-watch matchup for MMA fans.

The odds for this fight are currently in favor of Rozenstruik, who has a record of 11-2 and is coming off a knockout victory over Augusto Sakai in his last fight. Pavlovich, on the other hand, boasts a record of 14-1 and is known for his technical striking and solid grappling skills.

In terms of fighting style, Rozenstruik is known for his heavy hands and knockout ability, while Pavlovich is more of a well-rounded fighter with a strong ground game. It will be interesting to see how these contrasting styles play out in the octagon.

In terms of prediction, this fight has the potential to be a back-and-forth battle with both fighters having the ability to finish the fight at any moment. However, I believe Rozenstruik will ultimately come out on top with his superior striking and knockout power.

Overall, this matchup between Pavlovich and Rozenstruik is sure to be an exciting one for fans of the heavyweight division. Be sure to tune in to UFC Saudi Arabia to catch all the action and see who comes out on top in this epic showdown.

  • PREVIEW: Blue Jackets visit Utah for the first time

The cliché goes that patience is a virtue, and the Blue Jackets are finding that out as they continue to be one of the hottest teams in the NHL.

The last two games have been battles of attrition against two of the heaviest teams in the league in Los Angeles and Vegas, and the Blue Jackets weren’t going to be able to easily skate their way past either of those teams and post the high-scoring outbursts that often marked the first half of the season.

The Jackets were going to have to stick to the plan, play strong defense and seize their opportunities to beat the Kings and Golden Knights, and that’s exactly what they did. With consecutive overtime victories against those squads, Columbus moved back on the right side of the postseason line and showed they might have the right stuff to keep thriving as the games get bigger and bigger in the NHL season.

It all goes back to a word head coach Dean Evason has used a lot this season – patience. Given how many young players are in key roles for the Blue Jackets, you might expect them to want to push for goals and to make things happen in tight games, but this team has learned quickly that sometimes less is more when you’re facing the NHL’s toughest teams.

“I’m impressed that the players don’t want to open it up,” Evason said after Thursday’s 2-1 win in Vegas. “They’re saying the same things (we’re saying as coaches). It’s not like we’re saying, ‘You can’t carry the puck in, you can’t try to score goals, you can’t try to make plays when it presents itself.’ But it’s fun because they’re coaching themselves, they’re coaching each other in situations. So yeah, it’s nice. Do you want to score as many goals as you can? Sure, but any type of win is a good win.”

Indeed that is true, and Columbus put two more points in the bank against the Golden Knights on Thursday night to kick off a key four-game road swing that continues tonight in the franchise’s first-ever visit to Utah.

The victory against Vegas was impressive in a number of ways, including the fact Columbus went into one of the most hostile environments in the league and didn’t seem flustered. They also didn’t bend or break after a shaky start that included a Vegas goal five minutes in, as the Blue Jackets stuck to their game plan and got better as the night went on.

“They scored first, but that didn’t break our confidence at all,” said Adam Fantilli, who scored the opening goal for the CBJ late in the first period. “We stayed sound in what we were doing, and we were able to get one and pretty much stay like that for the rest of the game. It went to overtime and we were able to finish it out, so two points is two points and we’re happy about it.”

While Fantilli knotted things with the lone CBJ tally of regulation, fellow young centerman Cole Sillinger won the game in overtime, capping a performance in which the Blue Jackets showed again they can hang in against some of the league’s best.

“These are the type of games that coming down the stretch here we need,” Sillinger said. “It’s nice to start this road trip off with the win.”

Know The Foe: Utah Hockey Club

Head coach: Andre Tourigny (Fourth season)

    Team stats: Goals per game: 2.82 (22nd) | Scoring defense: 2.96 (16th) | PP: 22.5 percent (14th) | PK: 81.8 percent (7th)

The narrative: After years of trials and tribulations when it came to finding a feasible, long-term arena solution in Arizona, the then-Coyotes headed to Utah this offseason. Fans in Salt Lake City were rewarded with a young, entertaining team that appears to be on the cusp of success after making the playoffs just once in their last 12 seasons in the desert. The squad isn’t quite there yet, but the top nine scorers are all age 28 or younger, showing the talent is starting to fall into place.

Team leaders: Clayton Keller may be one of the most underrated players in the league, as the 26-year-old wing leads the squad in all three major statistical categories this season with a 18-36-54 line on the year. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 draft, Logan Cooley, is having a breakout season at age 20 with 15 goals and 43 points but is out with a lower body injury, while Nick Schmaltz has a 10-30-40 line. Another top draft pick, Dylan Guenther (ninth overall in 2021), is next on the team with 16 goals and 18 assists for 34 points but has missed time recently with a lower body injury.

In net, Karel Vejmelka has been one of the top netminders in the league this season, going 11-14-3 but posting a 2.47 goals-against average and .912 save percentage on the season in 30 games.

What’s new: Utah was hanging in there with a 16-11-5 record through Dec. 20, but the Hockey Club has just five wins in the last 18 games and sits seven games out of a playoff spot going into tonight’s action after Wednesday night’s OT loss vs. Pittsburgh. Of note, fans at the Delta Center will be able to vote on the three finalists for the team’s permanent nickname – Hockey Club, Mammoth or Outlaws – over a four-game stretch that includes tonight’s contest vs. the Blue Jackets.

Trending: Arizona swept the season series a year ago, and the Blue Jackets were 0-3-1 vs. the Coyotes the past two seasons after sweeping the two games in 2021-22.

Former CBJ: Defenseman Ian Cole has posted a 1-12-13 line this season while playing for his ninth NHL team, while center Kevin Stenlund has held down the fourth line while chipping in seven goals among his 12 points.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are set to make their first-ever trip to Utah to take on the Utah Grizzlies in an exciting matchup. Both teams are coming off strong performances and will be looking to continue their momentum in this highly anticipated game.

The Blue Jackets have been playing some of their best hockey as of late, with key players stepping up and contributing on both ends of the ice. Their offense has been firing on all cylinders, while their defense has been solid and reliable.

On the other hand, the Grizzlies have also been playing well and have been a tough team to beat at home. They have a strong group of players who have been working well together and are determined to come out on top in this matchup against the Blue Jackets.

This game promises to be a thrilling and competitive battle between two talented teams. Fans can expect to see fast-paced action, great scoring chances, and solid goaltending from both sides.

Be sure to tune in and catch all the action as the Blue Jackets visit Utah for the first time. It’s sure to be a game you won’t want to miss!
