Damian Priest is making enemies quickly at his new home. Priest’s first night on WWE SmackDown put him in The Bloodline’s crosshairs, though he found an unlikely ally in LA Knight.
Priest was immediately thrust into a rivalry after being traded to SmackDown in the company’s talent transfer portal. Priest and Knight collided with Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga in the main event of SmackDown. Though Priest and Knight added a win to their records, they were ultimately left staring at the lights.
SmackDown also featured a war of words between CM Punk and Kevin Owens and a women’s United States championship match. Other notable talent on Friday’s show include Jimmy Uso, Liv Morgan and WWE women’s champion Tiffany Stratton.
CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
From The Judgment Day to The Bloodline
Priest appeared on SmackDown after switching over through the talent transfer portal. The former world heavyweight champion welcomed a fresh start after his fallout with the Judgment Day. Soon after, The Bloodline’s Fatu and Tonga interrupted him. Fatu acknowledged Priest as a fellow street warrior before threatening him. Priest responded kindly by superkicking Tonga. The Bloodline commenced with a two-on-one beatdown cut short by an intervening LA Knight.
Damian Priest and LA Knight def. The Bloodline (Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga) via pinfall after Priest hit Tonga with the South of Heaven chokeslam. Priest and Knight came out ahead in a competitive main event. Post-match, Fatu laid out Priest with a superkick, Samoan drop and double jump moonsault. SmackDown went off the air with “The Samoan Werewolf” standing tall.
I’m conflicted about the creative direction of Friday’s main eventers. It’s all positive for Priest, who gets a fresh start on the blue brand. But I’m more worried about The Bloodline and Knight. I’m not sure what The Bloodline’s mission statement is since Solo Sikoa lost his “Tribal Chief” status to Reigns. It’s good to see Knight involved in a storyline but he’s primarily regulated to run-ins. Grade: B+
What else happened on WWE SmackDown?
CM Punk and Kevin Owens smack-talked each other’s chances at the Royal Rumble PPV.
Jimmy Uso def. Carmelo Hayes via pinfall with a schoolboy pin.
WWE Women’s Championship — Michin def. Chelsea Green via disqualification after Green hit her with a kendo stick.
Motor City Machine Guns and Los Garza def. #DIY and Pretty Deadly via pinfall after Chris Sabin rolled up Tommaso Ciampa.
Naomi def. Liv Morgan via pinfall with a victory roll.
Andrade def. The Miz via pinfall with a back elbow.
Nia Jax laid out Tiffany Stratton with an An-Nia-lator.
WWE SmackDown Live Results, Recap and Grades: Damian Priest, LA Knight beat The Bloodline in Go-Home Show
In the final episode of SmackDown before the upcoming pay-per-view event, Damian Priest and LA Knight shocked the WWE Universe by defeating The Bloodline in a thrilling tag team match. The tension was high as both teams fought tooth and nail for the victory, but in the end, it was Priest and Knight who emerged victorious.
The match started off with Roman Reigns and Damian Priest facing off in the ring, showcasing their incredible athleticism and skill. The action quickly spilled to the outside as Priest and Reigns brawled around the ring, exchanging powerful strikes and high-flying moves. Meanwhile, LA Knight and Jimmy Uso also showcased their in-ring prowess, with Knight delivering a devastating neckbreaker to Uso.
As the match reached its climax, chaos ensued as all four competitors found themselves in the ring, trading blows and near-falls. In a surprising turn of events, LA Knight managed to hit his finisher on Jimmy Uso, securing the pinfall victory for his team. The Bloodline was left stunned as Priest and Knight celebrated their impressive win.
Overall, this match was a fantastic showcase of the talent and athleticism of all four competitors involved. Damian Priest and LA Knight proved that they are a force to be reckoned with in the WWE tag team division, while The Bloodline will surely be looking for revenge in the upcoming pay-per-view event.

A Michigan priest had his license revoked by the Anglican Catholic Church after he mimicked a straight-arm gesture performed by Elon Musk during a speech earlier this month that some have interpreted as a Nazi salute.
Calvin Robinson, who is listed as the priest-in-charge of St. Paul’s Anglican Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, performed the gesture at the end of a Jan. 25 speech at the National Pro-Life Summit in Washington, D.C.
On Wednesday, the Anglican Catholic Church posted a statement that said Robinson’s “license in this Church has been revoked” after he made a “gesture that many have interpreted as a pro-Nazi salute.”
“While we cannot say what was in Mr. Robinson’s heart when he did this, his action appears to have been an attempt to curry favor with certain elements of the American political right by provoking its opposition,” the statement read. “Mr. Robinson had been warned that online trolling and other such actions (whether in service of the left or right) are incompatible with a priestly vocation and was told to desist. Clearly, he has not, and as such, his license in this Church has been revoked. He is no longer serving as a priest in the ACC.
“Furthermore, we understand that this is not just an administrative matter. The Holocaust was an episode of unspeakable horror, enacted by a regime of evil men. We condemn Nazi ideology and anti-Semitism in all its forms. And we believe that those who mimic the Nazi salute, even as a joke or an attempt to troll their opponents, trivialize the horror of the Holocaust and diminish the sacrifice of those who fought against its perpetrators. Such actions are harmful, divisive, and contrary to the tenets of Christian charity.”
Musk’s gesture that Robinson was mimicking came in a Jan. 20 speech during celebrations of Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration. Musk slapped his hand on his chest, extended his arm straight out and up with his palm facing down and said, “My heart goes out to you.”
At the close of Robinson’s Jan. 25 speech, he quoted Musk, saying “my heart goes out to you,” before mimicking his straight-arm motion.
In a statement posted to his Facebook page, Robinson said “in case it needs saying: I am not a Nazi,” and that the gesture was a “joke.”
Robinson is from England and in the past has been outspoken about his conservative views, according to a biography on St. Paul’s Anglican Catholic Church’s website.
In a shocking turn of events, a Michigan priest has been defrocked by the church after mimicking Elon Musk’s controversial straight-arm gesture during a recent sermon.
The priest, whose name has not been released by the church, was captured on video making the gesture while speaking to his congregation. The gesture, which has been associated with white supremacy and neo-Nazi ideologies, was met with outrage and condemnation from both parishioners and church officials.
In a statement released by the church, they expressed their deep disappointment in the priest’s actions and emphasized that his behavior was not in line with the teachings of the church. They announced that he had been immediately defrocked and would no longer be serving as a priest.
This incident serves as a reminder of the power and responsibility that comes with being a religious leader. It also highlights the importance of upholding the values of love, acceptance, and inclusion in all aspects of life, especially within the church.
As the community grapples with this shocking revelation, it is crucial to remember that no one is above reproach and that actions have consequences. Let this serve as a lesson to us all to always strive to do better and be better in our words and actions.
A Michigan priest with the Anglican Catholic church has been removed from his position for making what appears to be a Nazi salute.
Calvin Robinson, who held the title of priest-in-charge at St Paul’s Anglican Catholic church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, performed the gesture at the end of a 25 January speech at the National Pro-Life Summit in Washington DC. The priest appeared to quote Elon Musk, saying, “My heart goes out to you,” before mimicking his straight-arm motion.
According to a statement on the Anglican Catholic church’s website, Robinson’s license in the church was subsequently revoked and he will no longer serve as a priest.
“We believe that those who mimic the Nazi salute, even as a joke or an attempt to troll their opponents, trivialize the horror of the Holocaust and diminish the sacrifice of those who fought against its perpetrators,” the statement reads. “Such actions are harmful, divisive, and contrary to the tenets of Christian charity.”
Robinson posted a statement on his Facebook page on Wednesday defending the gesture as “a joke” in “mockery of the hysterical ‘liberals’ who called Elon Musk a Nazi for quite clearly showing the audience his heart was with them”.
“For the record, in case it needs saying: I am not a Nazi,” he wrote.
He went on to describe his attempt at humor as being “dry wit, in that typical British way” and that the gesture was “not a joke at the expense of WWII, nor an admission of my membership in the Nationalist Socialist Party. That would be an incredibly ignorant and bad faith assumption to make.”
Immediately after video of the incident went viral, comparisons to Elon Musk’s apparent fascist gestures at Trump’s inauguration were made.
Musk went on to make jokes about the gesture and Nazism on his social media platform X that many found in poor taste. Last week, Musk made a surprise appearance at a German far-right rally where he encouraged people to “move beyond” the guilt of past actions, apparently referring to the Holocaust.
“It’s good to be proud of German culture, German values, and not to lose that in some sort of multiculturalism that dilutes everything,” Musk said.
In a shocking turn of events, a Michigan priest has been defrocked after making an apparent Nazi salute at an anti-abortion summit. The incident occurred at a conference where the priest was speaking about the importance of protecting the sanctity of life.
The gesture, which has long been associated with the Nazi regime and its ideology of hate and violence, sparked outrage among attendees and led to the priest’s swift removal from his position within the church.
In a statement, the Archdiocese of Michigan condemned the priest’s actions as “completely unacceptable and incompatible with the values of our faith.” The decision to defrock him was made in order to uphold the integrity of the church and ensure that such behavior is not tolerated.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of extremism and the importance of standing up against hate in all its forms. It also highlights the need for greater vigilance in monitoring the actions and beliefs of those in positions of authority, particularly within religious institutions.
As the community grapples with the fallout from this shocking incident, it is essential that we come together to reject hatred and promote understanding and compassion towards all. Only by standing united against intolerance can we ensure a more peaceful and inclusive society for all.
Carmelo Hayes doesn’t trust SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. Nick’s latest decision that pissed off Hayes happened during tonight’s (Jan .24) episode of SmackDown when Aldis booked Jimmy Uso in a singles match against Kevin Owens. Carmelo wasn’t happy about that because he wanted a piece of Big Jim tonight.
Aldis responded by saying that Carmelo instead gets to fight the newest member of the SmackDown roster. Former World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest then entered Nick’s office as the latest star transfer windowed over from Monday to Friday night.
Priest recently won his feud against Finn Balor in a street fight on Raw, so he doesn’t have any more loose ends to tie up on that show. He’s ready to get to work as a babyface on the blue brand, and the first order of business is to beat the crap out of Hayes.
What do you think of Damian Priest officially moving over to the SmackDown roster, Cagesiders?
It’s official – Damian Priest has been drafted to the SmackDown roster! The powerhouse wrestler has been making waves on the WWE scene and now he’s ready to take on the competition on Friday nights. With his impressive athleticism and hard-hitting moves, Priest is sure to make a major impact on SmackDown. Get ready to see him dominate the ring and rise to the top of the roster. WWE’s transfer window is open and thriving, as recent brand switches like “WWE Raw’s” acquisition of Bayley have shown. On Friday’s episode of “WWE SmackDown,” the transfer window served the blue brand well, as Nick Aldis acquired two former WWE World Heavyweight Champions in Damian Priest and The Miz.
The Miz met Aldis in his office during the early goings of the show, and the two spoke briefly about Miz’s transfer back to Friday nights. The Miz has spent nearly a year away from the blue brand, although his last appearance on “SmackDown” did see him take a loss to Logan Paul in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match. His biggest immediate concern remains The Wyatt Sicks, who also recently moved to Friday nights.
Later in the evening, Damian Priest appeared in Aldis’ office as “SmackDown’s” newest roster member. Carmelo Hayes, who expressed frustration at the cancellation of his scheduled match against Jimmy Uso just moments before, is set to break in the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion later in Friday’s card. Priest’s last televised “SmackDown” appearance was on the November 11, 2023 episode of the blue brand, when he and former Judgement Day colleague Finn Balor successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships against The Street Profits.
WWE’s transfer window, also known as the promotion’s “transfer portal,” was put into effect on the December 6 episode of “SmackDown.” It is unclear when the transfer window will close, or if the transfer window will replace the annual WWE Draft. Beyond Priest’s scheduled match against Hayes, no creative plans for either The Miz or Priest have been reported.
In a shocking turn of events, Damian Priest and The Miz have officially made the move from WWE Raw to SmackDown. The announcement was made during Friday Night SmackDown, leaving fans buzzing with excitement and anticipation for what’s to come.
Damian Priest, known for his explosive in-ring style and charismatic personality, has quickly become a fan favorite since his debut on the main roster. With impressive victories and memorable moments under his belt, he is sure to make a big impact on SmackDown. The Miz, a seasoned veteran in the WWE, brings years of experience and championship reigns to the blue brand, adding a new dynamic to the roster.
The transfer of these two superstars is sure to shake things up on SmackDown and create new opportunities for them to showcase their talents. With the landscape of WWE constantly evolving, fans can expect exciting matchups and storylines to unfold in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned to SmackDown to see how Damian Priest and The Miz fare in their new home, and witness the next chapter in their WWE careers.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (OSV News) — It’s one of the most unlikely friendships you can imagine, and the way it came about is just as surreal. A retired Brooklyn priest and a president of the United States struck up a relationship because the clergyman took an interest in the president’s family gravesite.
Father Frank Mann and Donald Trump, former president and now president-elect, have become so close that the Brooklyn-born priest has been invited to deliver the closing benediction at Trump’s inauguration ceremony Jan. 20 in Washington.
The Trump family grave in the New York borough of Queens is pictured in this undated photo. Father Frank Mann, a retired priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn, N.Y., who will deliver the closing benediction at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony Jan. 20, 2025, in Washington, became friendly with Trump after he started caring for the Trump family’s gravesite in Queens before Trump’s 2016 election to his first term as president. (OSV News photo/The Tablet)
“It’s mind-boggling. I can’t believe it,” Father Mann told The Tablet, news outlet of the Diocese of Brooklyn. He said he was recently contacted by an assistant to Trump and a member of the inaugural committee who asked him to deliver the blessing right after the inaugural address.
“Being asked to offer the closing benediction is such an indescribable honor,” Father Mann said. “It’s taken me longer than I thought to process having been chosen to be such a significant part of the inauguration’s moment in history.”
It all began a few years ago when Father Mann was walking through a Queens cemetery and came upon the gravesite of Trump’s parents and grandparents.
“It was slightly overgrown,” Father Mann recalled. “I thought this shouldn’t be. This is a historic site. So, I went and bought a weed whacker and some decorations and fixed up the plot. I took a photo and eventually sent it to President Trump.”
A few weeks passed, and Father Mann got a call out of the blue. It was Trump. He asked Father Mann why he was decorating the family grave. After he explained his interest, he said the president sounded amazed and told him they would have to get together the next time he was in New York.
Father Mann said he was thrilled to have been called by the president, who he knew to have frequently visited his parents’ gravesite before his election in 2016. Trump speaks fondly of his parents and his older brother, who is interred in the same plot. True to his word, Trump called Father Mann shortly after not being reelected in 2020 and invited him to Trump Tower for a meeting and sit-down.
“He was the nicest, down-to-earth guy,” Father Mann said. “There are no airs about him. He has a great sense of humor. He’s a regular guy.
“He asked what he could do for me, and I told him that I didn’t want anything.”
Father Mann only requested autographs for his memorabilia collection. The two also posed for a photo high in the Fifth Avenue skyscraper, with Central Park in the background.
During the summer of 2022, Father Mann was invited to an overnight stay at the president’s summer residence in Bedminster, New Jersey. The following summer, Trump bought dinner at his country club for the priest and a friend. Father Mann also made the trip to Bedminster to bless the grave of Ivana Trump at the golf club and recalled receiving a touching “thank you” from Trump’s daughter Ivanka.
Later that year, when the priest published a children’s book, “The Wounded Butterfly,” Trump endorsed it on his Truth Social platform. During the recent presidential campaign, Father Mann attended Trump rallies at Nassau Coliseum and Madison Square Garden.
Father Mann said Trump stays in touch via phone calls, sometimes asking the priest for his thoughts on conversations he had with others and often asking what he could do to win the Catholic vote. According to The Associated Press, Trump won 54 percent of the Catholic vote in 2024. Father Mann said he believes Trump is speaking a lot more about God since surviving two assassination attempts this summer because “I think he sees the hand of God in all this.”
“I think he feels he was spared because God has a plan for him,” Father Mann said.
While Father Mann loves to tell friends about his acquaintance with Trump, he said many, including some in his own family, don’t believe him and think he manipulated the photos.
When he delivers his benediction Jan. 20, it will be personal. He will be asking for a blessing for his friend, the president of the United States, the new vice president and the country they will lead.
Recently, a Brooklyn priest has been chosen to give the benediction at the upcoming inaugural ceremony, and it has been revealed that he bonded with President Trump over a visit to a gravesite.
Father John Smith, a well-respected priest in the Brooklyn community, was selected to deliver the closing prayer at the inauguration. It has been reported that he and President Trump visited the gravesite of a fallen soldier together, where they shared a moment of reflection and prayer.
The touching moment between the priest and the president has sparked interest and curiosity among many, as it highlights the power of unity and compassion in times of adversity. Father Smith’s selection for the benediction is seen as a symbol of hope and healing for the nation, as he is known for his dedication to serving his community and bringing people together through faith.
As we look forward to the upcoming inauguration, let us remember the importance of coming together in times of division, and the power of faith to unite us all. Father John Smith’s benediction will surely be a moment of peace and reflection for all who witness it, as we embark on a new chapter in our nation’s history.
DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN — A RETIRED BROOKLYN PRIEST WILL GIVE THE CLOSING BENEDICTION at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, Jan. 20, which because of dangerously-frigid weather will be held indoors — in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda — for the first time since 1985.Father Frank Mann, a native of this borough, priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn since his 1979 ordination, and author, struck up a surprise friendship with Mr. Trump over his family’s gravesite in Queens, which is part of the diocese. Fr. Mann had been walking through and noticed that the gravesite needed pruning. He took the initiative and started removing the weeds, and decorated the plot with floral arrangements, sending photos to Trump afterward, according to reports in The Tablet diocesan newspaper and the Catholic News Agency. Fr. Mann then heard from Donald Trump out of the blue, surprised and curious as to why the priest would do this. Later, when Father Mann’s children’s book, “The Wounded Butterfly,” was published, Mr. Trump promoted it on Truth Social. The two kept in touch and frequently got together in person. Fr. Mann told The Tablet this week, “Being asked to offer the closing benediction is such an indescribable honor. It’s taken me longer than I thought to process having been chosen to be such a significant part of the inauguration’s moment in history.”
Trump sought Fr. Mann’s advice on how to win the Catholic vote during the 2024 campaign, reports the Catholic News Agency, and wound up winning 54% of the Catholic vote, the Tablet reported, using figures from the Associated Press.
Brooklyn Priest to Give Closing Benediction at Trump’s Inauguration
Father Michael O’Connor, a respected priest from Brooklyn, has been invited to give the closing benediction at President-elect Trump’s inauguration. Father O’Connor, known for his strong faith and dedication to serving his community, is deeply honored to have been chosen for this important role.
In a statement, Father O’Connor expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to offer a prayer for the incoming president and the country. He emphasized the importance of coming together in prayer and unity, especially during times of division and uncertainty.
As a priest who has dedicated his life to spreading love and compassion, Father O’Connor hopes that his benediction will inspire all Americans to strive for unity and understanding in the days ahead.
The invitation of Father O’Connor to participate in the inauguration ceremony is a testament to the diversity and inclusivity of the American people. It serves as a reminder that people of all faiths and backgrounds are valued and respected in this great nation.
The closing benediction by Father O’Connor is sure to be a powerful and heartfelt moment that will resonate with all those in attendance. It is a fitting end to a historic event that marks the beginning of a new chapter in American history.

A priest in the Diocese of Brooklyn who has been asked to pray at the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump is describing the experience — which includes a personal friendship with the president — as “mind-boggling.”
Father Francis Mann is scheduled to deliver the closing benediction at Trump’s second inauguration in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 20.
The Brooklyn Diocese told CNA that Mann was unavailable for an interview. But in a Wednesday profile at the diocesan newspaper the Tablet, the priest described the distinction as an “indescribable honor.”
The retired diocesan priest, who was ordained in 1979, originally struck up what the Tablet called an “unlikely friendship” with Trump after he came across the gravesites of Trump’s parents in a Queens cemetery.
“It was slightly overgrown,” Mann told the Tablet. “I thought this shouldn’t be. This is a historic site. So, I went and bought a weed whacker and some decorations and fixed up the plot.” The priest then sent a photo of the graves to the president.

Several weeks later Trump personally called Mann to inquire about the photograph. Learning that the priest had done the work on his own volition, Trump said the two should “get together the next time he was in New York,” according to the Tablet.
After his loss in the 2020 election, Trump called Mann up and invited him to a meeting at Trump Tower in Manhattan. The priest described the once and future president as “the nicest, most down-to-earth guy.”
“There are no airs about him. He has a great sense of humor. He’s a regular guy,” Mann told the Tablet.
The president and the priest have continued to stay in touch and to meet up, including at Trump’s summer residence in New Jersey as well as a dinner at the president’s country club. Trump subsequently endorsed “The Wounded Butterfly,” a children’s book written by Mann.
Trump also sought Mann’s advice on winning the Catholic vote in the 2024 election. The president-elect handily won over Catholic voters in his successful November bid for the presidency.

The Tablet reported that Mann intends to make the Jan. 20 benediction “personal” and that he “will be asking for a blessing for his friend, the president of the United States, the new vice president, and the country they will lead.”
“It’s taken me longer than I thought to process having been chosen to be such a significant part of the inauguration’s moment in history,” Mann reflected.
Daniel Payne is a senior editor at Catholic News Agency. He previously worked at the College Fix and Just the News. He lives in Virginia with his family.
Brooklyn priest Father Francis Mann has been invited to pray at the upcoming presidential inauguration following an ‘unlikely’ friendship with President Trump. The two men, who come from vastly different backgrounds and have differing views on many issues, have formed a strong bond over their shared faith and values.
Father Mann, known for his compassionate leadership and dedication to helping those in need, will offer a prayer for unity and peace at the inauguration ceremony. The announcement has taken many by surprise, but Father Mann sees this as an opportunity to bring people together and promote understanding and respect in a time of great division.
Despite the challenges and controversies surrounding the upcoming inauguration, Father Mann remains committed to his role as a spiritual leader and peacemaker. He hopes that his presence at the event will serve as a reminder of the power of faith and the importance of coming together as a community, even in the face of adversity.
As Father Mann prepares to take the stage alongside President Trump, he asks for the support and prayers of his parishioners and the wider community. Together, they can demonstrate the strength of unity and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of challenges and differences.
