  • ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Viewers Disappointed by Bonus Round’s $40,000 Prize

You’d think a $40,000 jackpot would be cause for celebration, but Wheel of Fortune viewers are ready for bigger and better prizes on the long-running game show.

In the episode airing on Friday (January 31), Cindy Valenzuela from Merced, California, became the latest Season 42 player to win the low-end Bonus Round prize.

    The category for her puzzle was “Phrase,” and after the gimme letters — R, S, T, L, N, and E — and the letters Cindy selected — M, C, D, and A — the puzzle board looked like this: _ _ _ _ E N _ N _ L _ _ N _ _ E _.

Cindy guessed the answer almost immediately: HIDDEN IN PLAIN VIEW.

Host Ryan Seacrest opened the prize envelope with a flourish, revealing Cindy had won $40,000. Cindy screamed with delight and embraced her friends Stephanie and Edith, who cheered her on as she took home a total prize package worth $60,400.

But judging from YouTube comments, viewers were less enthused.

“When I saw Ryan was hiding the prize from the envelope, I thought he [was] gonna surprise her and the audience with $100,000!” one person wrote.

“How many $40,000 envelopes are there in the Bonus Round? I see another $40,000 win again,” someone else commented.

Another fan observed Season 42 hadn’t had any $1 million, $70K, or $75K winners.

“I was thought for sure [Seacrest] was going to reveal the $100,000, and it was only the $40,000,” a fourth commenter wrote. “Still, a great solve and great effort. Nice work!”

Wheel of Fortune statistics shared by game show recapper Andy Nguyen show that as of Week 20, a $40K prize had come up 61 times. A car prize, meanwhile, had come up only 11 times, a $50K prize had come up 10 times, a $70K prize had come up three times, a $75K prize had come up six times, and a $100K or $1M prize had come up three times.

Viewers also complained about the $40K prize after the game show’s January 30 episode.

“What’s the point of the bonus wheel if it’s ALWAYS landing on $40K?” one person wrote at the time. “Well, OK, maybe not ALWAYS, but it FEELS like it’s consistently landing on $40K.”

Wheel of Fortune, Weeknights, Check Local Listings

Fans of the popular game show “Wheel of Fortune” were left disappointed after watching the latest episode’s bonus round. In a surprising twist, the lucky contestant spun the wheel and landed on the coveted $40,000 prize.

Viewers were excited to see what big prize the contestant would take home, but their excitement quickly turned to disappointment when it was revealed that the grand prize was only $40,000. Many took to social media to express their frustration, with some calling it a “letdown” and others saying it was “underwhelming.”

It’s not uncommon for game shows to have varying prize amounts in their bonus rounds, but $40,000 seemed particularly low for a show like “Wheel of Fortune” that is known for its big prizes.

Despite the disappointment, fans are still tuning in to see what other surprises the show has in store. Who knows, maybe next time the bonus round will have a prize worth spinning the wheel for.

  • 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am purse, prize money: Payout for golfers, winner’s share from $20 million pool

The second signature event of the 2025 PGA Tour season means the second big winner’s check is up for grabs at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Playing for $20 million and a winner’s share of $3,600,000, 80 competitors will give it their all on the Monterey Peninsula.

Last season, Scottie Scheffler took care of a majority of the signature events. Playing in seven of them as he chose to forgo the Wells Fargo Championship, the world No. 1 collected four winner’s checks, including the elevated $4 million top prize at the Arnold Palmer Invitational given its status as a player invitational.

Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama, Chris Kirk and Wyndham Clark were the four other players to win signature events in 2024, and Matsuyama has already done it again in 2025 with his triumph at The Sentry. He looks to follow in the footsteps of Scheffler by cashing multiple signature event checks; Clark came into the week as the reigning champion, giving him a leg up on the competition as well.

The eventual winner is not the only player who will see a bump in his bank account by tournament’s end. Those who finish inside the top 10 will clear $500,000 with those inside the top 35 all making at least six figures for their play at Pebble Beach.

  • Loyal Player Finds First $100,000 Top Prize on MONOPOLY X50 Scratch-off – Maryland Lottery

Hyattsville man plans to save his prize for the future

About a week ago, a Prince George’s County man’s luck changed for the better. Roberto Fuentes Valdivia had stopped at a 7-Eleven in Mt. Rainier to get coffee when a flashy scratch-off caught his eye. He stared at the MONOPOLY X50 game, which is offered by the Maryland Lottery and licensed by Scientific Games, LLC, and he just had to have it.

Roberto is a fan of Maryland Lottery scratch-offs and Racetrax. So, while he was getting his cup of coffee, the Hyattsville resident purchased five MONOPOLY X50 scratch-offs because they were so eye-catching and the game was new, having just gone on sale on Jan. 13. He played the $10 scratch-offs there in the store.

“Funny, it was the last ticket that was the winner,” said Roberto, smiling. “When I scanned the game, I thought it was $100, but then I saw that comma and realized it was $100,000!”

Roberto, a construction and carpentry worker, chatted a bit with the 7-Eleven staff, who know him well, before heading home to spend the day watching sports. He has shared the wonderful news with family members, who were all happy for him.

Roberto told Lottery officials that he hasn’t put much thought into what he will do with his winnings. For now, he said, he’ll just save the windfall.

The lucky retailer that sold the winning instant ticket is located at 3310 Chillum Road in Prince George’s County. The 7-Eleven will share in the excitement with a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

Roberto claimed the first of nine $100,000 top prizes available on the MONOPOLY X50 scratch-off. There are 10 $50,000 second-tier prizes remaining, as well as numerous lower-tier prizes ranging from $10 to $10,000.

The game belongs to a family of six MONOPOLY scratch-offs that went on sale in December and January, as well as a MONOPOLY Second-Chance Promotion. Players can enter any non-winning MONOPOLY scratch-offs into My Lottery Rewards for a chance to win a rolling cash jackpot or cash prize. Six monthly drawings from February to July will award $5,000 prizes and rolling cash jackpots that start at $10,000 and grow until the drawing date.

The Maryland Lottery is thrilled to announce that a loyal player has struck it big with the MONOPOLY X50 Scratch-off game, winning the first $100,000 top prize!

The lucky winner, who has been playing the Maryland Lottery for years, purchased the winning ticket at their favorite convenience store. When they scratched off the ticket and saw the $100,000 prize, they couldn’t believe their eyes.

“I’ve been playing the lottery for as long as I can remember, and I’ve always dreamed of winning big,” the winner said. “I never thought it would actually happen to me, but here I am with $100,000 in my pocket!”

The MONOPOLY X50 Scratch-off game offers players the chance to win up to $100,000 instantly, with 1 in 3.09 odds of winning any prize. This lucky winner is proof that perseverance pays off, and that big wins are possible for those who keep playing.

Congratulations to the winner on their incredible win, and here’s to many more lucky wins in the future!

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can’t enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

  • Unrivaled unveils 1-on-1 format with $250,000 top prize

Unrivaled will crown its first one-on-one champion on Feb. 14.

The new 3-on-3 women’s basketball league announced the rules for the tournament that will be played over three days. Thirty players will be divided into four pods with the eventual champion winning $250,000. The runner-up will get $50,000, and each semifinalist will earn $25,000. Players on the winner’s 3-on-3 team will each receive $10,000.

Fans will vote for where players will be seeded in their pods, which were determined by distributing talent, position and compelling matchups.

Rounds up until the finals will be single elimination with games played to 11 points or 10 minutes, whichever is reached first.

The finals will be a best-of-three series with the winning score for each game also to 11. It will be traditional scoring with baskets worth either two or three points.

There will be a seven-second shot clock for each possession, and a player keeps the ball after scoring.

Players have unlimited fouls, though if they foul on consecutive possessions in non-shooting situations a point will be awarded to the player on offense. That player will also keep possession of the ball.

Similar to the league, a foul on a shot will result in one free throw worth the same as the attempt. So a foul on a 3-pointer would be worth three points and a 2-pointer would be worth two. A foul on a made basket would result in one extra point being awarded on a made free throw.

Brittney Griner, Stefanie Dolson, Sabrina Ionescu, Cameron Brink, Courtney Vandersloot and Angel Reese aren’t participating in the tournament.

Exciting news for all esports fans! Unrivaled, the premier gaming tournament organizer, has just announced their latest innovation in esports competition – a 1-on-1 format with a jaw-dropping $250,000 top prize.

This new format is set to revolutionize the way competitive gaming is played, offering players the chance to showcase their skills in intense head-to-head matchups. With such a substantial prize pool on the line, the stakes have never been higher for esports competitors.

Unrivaled has always been at the forefront of pushing the boundaries in esports, and this new format is no exception. The organization is committed to providing the most thrilling and competitive gaming experiences for both players and fans alike.
