The Hollow Knight: Silksong ARG turned out to be us clutching at straws, but dev says: “the game is real, progressing and will release”
We’ve been fooled again, folks. What we thought were Hollow Knight: Silksong clues being left by one of the devs turned out to be a “nothingburger,” but the game is still in development.
One of the devs changed their profile picture and name on Twitter, and it seemed like they were leaving clues that there would be more information about the game revealed during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct in April.
Hollow Knight YouTuber fireb0rn tweets: “Leth reached out to me to confirm there was no Silksong ARG and that the changes to William’s account and the tweet were a nothingburger. Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie.”
However, Matthew Griffin, who does marketing and publishing for Hollow Knight: Silksong reassures us that the game is still ticking along and we will one day get our hands on it. “Yes the game is real, progressing and will release,” they tweet.
Deep down in my bones, I knew we were chasing our tails with this one, but what’s fandom without a little hope? I keep believing we’ll get a new Bloodborne game or remaster at some point in the future, even though I’m proven wrong time and time again.
Hollow Knight was released back in 2017 and became a huge success thanks to its gorgeous visuals, gripping atmosphere, and phenomenal combat and music. The upcoming sequel, Silksong, was announced back in February 2019, so we’re coming up on six years without the eagerly anticipated game actually reaching us. Sad.
Greatness takes time, and I’m sure we’d all rather have a game that lives up to the original and takes as long as it needs rather than getting something that disappoints everyone who’s already waited all this time.
In the meantime, check out all the other video game release dates that are coming up and see if anything catches your eye.
After months of speculation and anticipation surrounding the Hollow Knight: Silksong ARG, it seems that fans may have been grasping at straws. The alternate reality game, which was believed to be dropping hints and clues about the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved indie game Hollow Knight, ultimately led to dead ends and false leads. However, in a recent statement from Team Cherry, the developers behind Hollow Knight: Silksong, reassured fans that the game is indeed real, progressing, and will eventually release. While the ARG may have been a misstep in terms of building hype and engagement, it seems that the team is hard at work behind the scenes to deliver a game that will meet and exceed fans’ expectations.
So, while the ARG may have left some feeling disappointed and frustrated, it’s important to remember that the end goal is still in sight. Hollow Knight: Silksong is on its way, and fans can rest assured that their patience will be rewarded with a game that is sure to be worth the wait.

Hollow Knight fans have been through the wringer recently, with cryptic X/Twitter activity from one developer sparking rampant speculation that the hotly anticipated follow-up Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally re-emerge at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct in April — and potentially even release on Nintendo’s next-gen console as a timed launch exclusive.
It all started when supersleuths on the Hollow Knight subreddit noticed that on January 15, co-director of Team Cherry William Pellen had changed his Twitter/X profile picture to a picture of a chocolate cake. Alongside this, Pellen tweeted: “something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow.”
At the time, Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal was rumored for January 16, and so it proved — that was the day Nintendo finally announced the Switch 2. Had Pellen really asked followers to keep an eye out for the Switch 2 reveal? If so, why?
Fans then reverse-searched the picture of the cake, leading them to a recipe for Brooklyn Blackout Cake on cooking website Bon Appétit. The date the recipe was published: April 2, 2024. The date of the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is April 2, 2025.
Fans also wondered what Pellen’s new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr, meant, if anything. Redditor Representative-True speculated that the “wr” in “everydruidwaswr” was the start of a word, perhaps “wrong,” or perhaps stands for “was wrong,” and pointed to the Druid of the Moss Temple Silksong NPC as evidence of… something.
Pellen had a new X/Twitter name to go along with the new handle and profile picture: “little bomey.” Fans noticed Little Boomey is a wine from Southern Australia, where Team Cherry is based, but the spelling is different. The upshot of all this was that some fans thought Pellen had kicked off a Silksong alternate reality game (ARG), but over the weekend comments appeared to pour cold water on this theory.
First, Hollow Knight YouTuber fireb0rn tweeted to say Team Cherry marketing and publishing chief Matthew ‘Leth’ Griffin had got in touch “to confirm there was no Silksong ARG and that the changes to William’s account and the tweet were a nothingburger. Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie.”
And in a post on the Hollow Knight Discord, Griffin backed this up, saying: “It wasn’t [an ARG]. But it was still some impressive sleuthing skills by the fans… like ya’ll are WAY beyond those 2020 riddles now.”
Griffin himself followed up to respond to one fan who wondered if Team Cherry had given up on Hollow Knight: Silksong. “Yes the game is real, progressing and will release,” Griffin tweeted.
This has done little to calm all the speculation, as you can perhaps imagine. And at the time of this article’s publication, Pellen’s tweet remains online. Pellen himself has yet to explain whatever his X/Twitter activity is all about, either.
It’s worth remembering that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced, Team Cherry confirmed the launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. But that was six years ago. We have a few months to find out what this all means, but in the meantime, check out everything announced at Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal.

Fans of the highly anticipated game Hollow Knight: Silksong have been eagerly awaiting news of its release, and a recent post from the game’s developer is sure to calm their nerves. In a statement released today, Team Cherry insisted that “The game is real, progressing, and will release.”This assurance comes at a time when fans have been dissecting every piece of information they can find about the game, including a recent picture of a delicious chocolate cake that was shared on social media. Some fans speculated that the cake was a hint about the game’s release date or a new character, while others simply indulged in the sweet treat vicariously through the photo.
With the game’s development progressing and the developer’s reassurances, fans can rest assured that Hollow Knight: Silksong is on its way. In the meantime, they can enjoy some virtual cake while they wait for more updates on this highly anticipated sequel.

Chet Holmgren took one large stride toward recovery this week.
In attendance for the Thunder’s 113-105 New Year’s Eve win against the Timberwolves on Tuesday, Holmgren was seen pacing from the bench to the floor — this time without crutches.
After sustaining a right iliac wing fracture in a Nov. 10 loss to the Warriors, Holmgren was forced to use extraordinarily large crutches.
It’s unclear where Holmgren is in his recovery process, but next week marks eight weeks since his injury; the Thunder noted that an update on his return-to-play protocol would be provided after eight to 10 weeks.

In Indiana late last week, coach Mark Daigneault said that Holmgren was “on track.”
“I’m not going to give you guys the blow-by-blow of what he’s doing, but you don’t go from like crutches to playing,” Daigneault said. “So there’s going to be a progression, and he’s going to go through that, and he’s right where he should be right now.
“But right now, it’s testing his patience more than anything, because he really is not doing very much physically yet, and he’s got to kind of hang in there on that because he’s just such a baller. He wants to play, he wants to work out, but he’s also got to heal.”
Holmgren seems to be trending that way. Just a couple weeks earlier, he traveled with the team’s Las Vegas party, staying through the NBA Cup Final before returning to Oklahoma City while the team trudged through the Orlando-Miami back-to-back.
He’s been present on sidelines this past month, both at home games and practices. But until Tuesday, it’d always been with crutches.

Holmgren’s just itching to get back.
“It’s encouraging. It’s exciting,” Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said of seeing Holmgren without crutches. “Today, he came in the locker room and said that he’s ready to go through shootaround with us. Typical Chet Holmgren.
“It’s amazing. I can’t imagine the game being taken from me like that. It’s so unfortunate, you can’t control it. For him to be on his way back, (I) can only imagine how it feels. To see that smile on his face again, it’s very exciting.
“It’s also very exciting to know he’s on his way back, (and) we’re gonna be a better basketball team.”
