  • Opinion | Trump’s Gaza Deal: War Crimes in Exchange for Beachfront Property


    Trump’s proposition, the pundit Amit Segal said on Israel’s Channel 12, is “not 100 percent what Netanyahu wants — it’s 200 percent.” Until now, Israeli politicians who publicly discussed such ideas risked American blowback. Joe Biden’s administration was shamefully unwilling to restrain Netanyahu, but it did rebuke far-right Israeli ministers when they fantasized about building Jewish settlements in Gaza. The Palestinians, Biden’s secretary of state, Antony Blinken, said last year, “cannot, and they must not, be pressed to leave Gaza.” Netanyahu had to at least pretend to agree, insisting that it wasn’t “realistic” to talk about settling Gaza.

    It might seem more realistic to him now. On Thursday, Trump wrote on Truth Social, his social media site, “The Gaza Strip would be turned over to the United States by Israel at the conclusion of fighting,” after Palestinians had “already been resettled in far safer and more beautiful communities, with new and modern homes, in the region.” Never mind that under the terms of the cease-fire he takes credit for, fighting is supposed to be over now. Trump seems to be offering Israel a deal: The U.S. will countenance the ethnic cleansing of Gaza so long as America gets a prime piece of oceanfront property at the end of it.

    So far, of course, both Israel and the United States have spoken of the removal of Palestinians from Gaza as if it would be voluntary. No doubt some Palestinians would choose to leave the land that Israel has made uninhabitable if they had a decent alternative, which they don’t. (One Israeli news site reported that among the destinations being considered for Palestinians are Puntland and Somaliland, two regions of Somalia.) But many of the enclave’s nearly more than two million people, seared by a history of dispossession, are determined to stay put. Driving them out would be a war crime. It could not be accomplished without atrocity.

    Republicans may brush off Trump’s words as nothing but audacious spitballing, but by opening the door to a Gaza without Palestinians, Trump has already made the world more brutal and unstable. Right now, Israel and Hamas are supposed to be negotiating Phase 2 of their cease-fire agreement, which is meant to lead to a permanent cessation of fighting, the release of the remaining live hostages, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces. But the Israeli delegation has yet to leave for Qatar to participate in talks, and now Trump has removed an important incentive for Hamas to set the hostages free. Why would Hamas release them, asked Samuel Heilman in The Times of Israel, “when at the end of the process they will neither have control of Gaza back nor any hope of a Palestinian sovereign state?”

    There’s an idea floating around that even if Trump’s plan is unworkable, he deserves credit for recognizing that the status quo is untenable. “Trump picks up on a real problem, about how to reconstruct Gaza,” the British academic Lawrence Freedman told The New York Times. But there’s nothing admirable about tossing off absurd and impossible solutions to intractable dilemmas. If smart people are convincing themselves otherwise, it suggests to me a desperation to find rationality where there is none.

  • Jeannie Mai Calls Police in Fight With Ex Jeezy Over Property


    Jeannie Mai showed up to ex-husband Jeezys home to collect boxes of personal items from the home they once shared but had to call police after she was refused entry, In Touch can exclusively report.

    According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Jeannie, 46, said the drama with Jeezy, 47, started back in November 2024. The exes initially settled their divorce in June 2024.

    A couple of months later, Jeannie said she had items that she needed to pick up from Jeezy’s home in Georgia.

    Jeezy (real name: Jay Jenkins) said he placed Jeannie’s property, which included her Emmy and other trophies, photos, handbags, shoes and other items in boxes. The judge ruled that Jeannie could pick up the items within 21 days from Jeezy’s home.

    However, Jeezy asked the court to modify the court due to him not feeling safe with Jeannie roaming around his home.

    Jeezy’s lawyer said the musician was “perfectly fine with [Jeannie] coming to his residence to retrieve her personal property.”

    The rapper said he had “legitimate concerns about Jeannie being able to walk through the whole house.”

    “[Jeezy] does not feel safe having [Jeannie] in his home. Given [Jeannie’s] history of attempting to destroy [Jeezy’s] career with misleading information, [Jeezy] would have no way of knowing if [Jeannie] is planting listening devices or cameras in his home,” his lawyer said.

    “[Jeannie] is angry about the parties divorce and she is revengeful. In addition, the mere presence of [Jeannie] inside [Jeezy’s] home and personal space, after the highly contested nature of the divorce case, would absolutely destroy [Jeezy’s] peace and tranquility, as well as invade his privacy,” his lawyer added.

    Now, Jeannie fired back at Jeezy’s claims he doesn’t feel safe in his home.

    She said her lawyers notified Jeezy she would be coming to his home on December 9, 2024.

    She claimed Jeezy said he had no objections to her coming to pick up her items that were packed and in his garage. Jeannie said her lawyers asked for confirmation that Jeezy was going to allow Jeannie inside the home.

    Jeannie’s lawyers said their client had no intention of invading Jeezy’s privacy or placing any recording devices in the home — and that she simply wanted to make sure she didn’t leave anything behind. Jeannie said she arrived on December 9, 2024, with her movers at Jeezy’s home.

    She said Jeezy’s house manager, “on the orders of [Jeezy]”, refused to allow her and her security team to access the garage, where her items were stored.”

    “The house manager continued to refuse to let [Jeannie] and her movers access the garage; in fact the house manager called [Jeezy], who again confirmed that [Jeannie] and her movers were not to access her items, disregarding the court order entirely,” the motion read.

    “At this time, [Jeannie] called the Atlanta Police Department, who came to the property to gather a report on [Jeannie’s] denial of access. [Jeannie] as always was the consummate professional,” Jeannie’s lawyer wrote.

    “The police were not called to make a scene but instead to report that the court order was being violated.”

    “When the police officer informed the house manager that a court order was, in fact, being violated, the house manager then had to shift gears and create a new barrier to entry. Next, the house manager, at the direction of [Jeezy], refused to allow anyone on behalf of [Jeannie] to enter the home unless they signed a nondisclosure agreement. To note, there is nothing in the court order that states any language regarding a nondisclosure agreement,” Jeannie’s lawyer wrote.

    Jeannie said when she was allowed in the garage she saw her boxes had been damaged. She said Jeezy’s lawyer previously praised the rapper in court for the “condition in which he maintained” her belongings. Jeannie said her items, which carried “immeasurable personal value,” were left in disarray.

    “The boxes were wet, with water having soaked through the boxes, damaging personal items. There were mouse traps set in the garage, presumably set for mice which had eaten through some of the boxes,” Jeannie’s lawyer wrote. “Many of [Jeannie’s] awards were broken and scratched,” the lawyer continued.

    Jeannie said Jeezy had caused her to incur significant legal bills due to his refusal to abide by “any court order.” Jeannie denied she was “angry” and “revengeful” following the split.

    Her lawyer wrote, “The only party that seems to be angry or revengeful is [Jeezy].” A judge has yet to rule on the back on forth.

    As In Touch previously reported, back in September 2024, Jeannie filed a petition accusing Jeezy of contempt.

    Jeannie accused Jeezy of failing to comply with certain terms of their divorce settlement. Specifically, she claimed he owed her money for daycare and rent expenses. Jeezy denied the accusations. He said it was “disheartening” that his ex would make such “blatant misrepresentations” in court. He claimed Jeannie had filed to provide proper receipts for expenses.



    Jeannie Mai, co-host of The Real, found herself in a heated altercation with her ex-boyfriend Jeezy over property, leading her to call the police for assistance.

    The couple, who recently announced their split, reportedly got into a disagreement over belongings that Jeezy had allegedly taken from their shared home without Mai’s consent. The argument escalated, prompting Mai to contact law enforcement for help in resolving the situation.

    While details of the incident remain unclear, it serves as a reminder of the importance of clear communication and respect in a breakup, especially when it comes to dividing assets and belongings. Hopefully, both parties can find a peaceful resolution to their dispute and move forward in a positive manner.

  • Ruffin plans to sell Circus Circus, buy another Strip property – Las Vegas Sun News


    Billionaire Phil Ruffin is looking to sell Circus Circus and its prime real estate on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip, he told Forbes in an interview published today.

    Ruffin bought the property for $825 million in late 2019, just over $1 billion in today’s money, and told the magazine it’s now worth $5 billion. He added that “there is interest” in the property.

    “It’s the best piece of land on the West Coast,” he said. “It’s got the highway, it’s got the Sahara, it’s got 2,000 feet on the Strip, and it’s the last Strip property. And 102 acres is just a massive amount of land — you can almost build a city on it.”

    Ruffin told Forbes he is looking to buy another property on the Strip once he sells Circus Circus but is open to ventures outside Nevada. 

    “Why do you think I bought Circus Circus? For the 102 acres,” he told the magazine. “That’s the land play. Remember what I did at the Frontier, how the value of the land went crazy — here it’s going crazier.”

    Ruffin bought the Frontier in 1998 for $167 million. A decade later, he sold it for about $2.1 billion, a nearly eleven-fold increase in value after adjusting for inflation. He also owns Treasure Island, which he bought in 2009 for $775 million. 

    The billionaire is close friends with President-elect Donald Trump, donating millions to his presidential campaigns and co-owning Trump Tower Las Vegas with him.

    Speaking to Forbes, Ruffin opined up on his conversations with the incoming president about foreign and domestic policy.

    Ruffin said Trump’s immigration policy would “concentrate on criminals.” CNN reported today that the president-elect is looking to quickly kick off United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement sweeps in major metro areas and declare a national emergency.

    Trump also said earlier this month he was open to using military and economic means to take back the Panama Canal, which the United States gave to Panama in 1999.

    “We did agree that something needs to be done with the Panama Canal,” Ruffin told Forbes. “I can’t imagine us giving away that canal for $1, as President Carter did. It is critical.”

    The yearlong ban that California’s insurance authority rushed to impose on cancellations in parts of Los Angeles hardest hit by wildfires was likely the last thing insurance companies wanted in the face of anticipated record-breaking claims.

    “Losing your insurance should be the last thing on someone’s mind after surviving a devastating fire,” Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara said in a statement. “This law gives millions of Californians breathing room and hits the pause button on insurance non-renewals while people recover.”

    The insurance commissioner is literally holding insurance companies’ feet to the fire. As Realtor.com reported, the moratorium on cancellations follows the commissioner’s unveiling of a new rule requiring private insurance firms to start writing new policies in high-risk areas if they wanted to keep doing business in California, but with the concession that they would be allowed to pass the costs on to their customers.

    As of Wednesday, Jan. 15, the Los Angeles area wildfires had killed at least 25 people, destroyed more than 12,000 structures and charred more than 60 square miles. The largest by far – the Palisades and Eaton wildfires – continue to burn out of control. The fire has come at the worst possible time for homeowners – just months after private insurers canceled 1,600 policies in Pacific Palisades over high fire risks. At the same time, major private insurers like State Farm, Nationwide, Farmers Insurance, Allstate, USAA and The Hartford stopped writing new policies in high-risk areas or limited their coverage.

    Faced with the prospect of having their homes uninsured, almost half a million Californians were forced to enroll in the Fair Access to Insurance Requirements (FAIR) Plan, the state-sponsored insurer of last resort.     The driver behind the deadly terrorist New Years’ attack in New Orleans set fire to his rental property in an effort to destroy bomb-making evidence prior to the attack, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms (ATF) said.

    In a joint statement on Friday, the agencies revealed that they believe 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar set a small fire in the hallway of his rented Airbnb before the attack, and “strategically placed accelerants throughout the house in his effort to destroy it and other evidence of his crime.” But they said the fire burned itself out before spreading to other rooms.

    The smoldering of the fire allowed the FBI to recover evidence from the rented Airbnb, including “pre-cursors for bomb-making material and a privately made device suspected of being a silencer for a rifle,” the agencies said.

    The FBI and the ATF also revealed new information on Jabbar’s movements prior to driving a high-speed vehicle down the popular Bourbon Street in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

    Jabbar had also placed two improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, along Bourbon Street, authorities said. He did not manage to detonate the two explosives prior to his death.

    “The FBI assesses that during his attack on Bourbon Street, Jabbar intended to use a transmitter, that was found in the F150 truck, to detonate the two IED’s he placed on Bourbon Street,” the agencies said.

    Eversource acquired a 26-acre portion of the Mystic property in Massachusetts from Constellation Energy for potential use as a multi-use energy interconnection hub for large-scale renewable energy sources

    While Eversource has not developed specific plans for the site at this time, its strategic location, historic use, and existing infrastructure position it as a potential interconnection hub for onshore or offshore wind, hydro, battery storage and nuclear among others.

    Over the coming year, Eversource will collaborate closely with Massachusetts and Everett officials and other stakeholders to develop a plan for the property, which is adjacent to the site of the proposed soccer stadium in Everett.

    “With its strategic location, flexibility, and existing infrastructure, this site is one of the most promising, multi-use interconnection points for large-scale renewable energy in New England – representing a one-of-a-kind opportunity to support our shared energy goals, spur economic development and help create jobs,” Eversource Chairman, President and CEO Joe Nolan said. “Purchasing this site will allow us to transform it into a premier energy interconnection hub that enhances reliability for the entire New England region, building on Massachusetts’ reputation as a national leader with its collaborative approach to the ongoing energy transition. We are eager to work with the local community, state officials and other key stakeholders to develop innovative plans for the property that will deliver carbon-free energy to customers as part of a reliable, equitable, and cost-effective energy future for our region.”
