  • GOP Could Limit Student Loan Forgiveness For Public Service Borrowers

House Republicans are floating a proposal to limit eligibility for a key federal student loan forgiveness program intended to benefit public service borrowers.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness, or PSLF, is a popular program created by bipartisan legislation in 2007 and signed by President George W. Bush. The program offers complete student loan forgiveness for Direct federal student loans after a borrower completes 10 years of employment with a qualifying nonprofit or government employer, while meeting other program criteria (such as repaying their loans under an income-driven repayment plan).

PSLF was plagued by loan servicing and oversight problems for years, resulting in low approval rates. But under the Biden administration, the Education Department enacted a number of regulatory actions and temporary waivers designed to rectify these historic issues. As a result, more than a million borrowers ultimately received student loan forgiveness through PSLF by the beginning of this year.

But as student loan forgiveness has become a more polarized issue, the once-bipartisan program is now facing more opposition from many Republican lawmakers. And some party leaders are calling for limits to PSLF, or even a full repeal. Here’s what borrowers should know.

GOP Calls For Changing Student Loan Forgiveness Eligibility Under PSLF, But With No Specifics

According to a policy memo leaked to Politico last week, House Budget Committee members are considering a number of reforms to federal student loan forgiveness and repayment programs as part of a massive budget reconciliation bill primarily intended to extend expiring tax cuts. The budget reconciliation process would allow Republicans, who narrowly control both the House and the Senate, to bypass the senate filibuster and pass legislation on a party-line, majority vote.

The committee called out PSLF in the memo, although no specifics were provided on potential changes to the program.

“Reform Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF),” reads a line-item on the memo. “This option would allow the Committee on Education and the Workforce to make much-needed reforms to the PSLF, including limiting eligibility for the program.” But the memo does not explain how student loan forgiveness eligibility might be limited, nor does it offer specifics on who would be impacted. The projected budgetary savings over a 10-year period is left as “TBD.”

How Student Loan Forgiveness Eligibility Under PSLF Could Be Limited

The memo is a proposal at this juncture, not draft legislation, so nothing has been finalized yet. In addition, while detailed elements of the College Cost Reduction Act, sponsored by Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), are included in the policy memo (including a repeal of other federal student loan forgiveness programs), PSLF reforms are not part of that draft legislation. So, it is unclear what Republican lawmakers may be looking at in terms of limiting PSLF eligibility.

However, there is precedent for PSLF reform proposals. The Obama administration had proposed capping student loan forgiveness under PSLF at $57,000 for the fiscal year budget covering 2015 to 2017. The first Trump administration proposed a full repeal of PSLF in 2018. And several Republican lawmakers in Congress also proposed repealing PSLF legislatively at that time. None of these proposals wound up passing, and current borrowers may have been grandfathered into PSLF had they been enacted.

Memo Also Calls For Repealing Other Student Loan Forgiveness Programs

The House Budget Committee’s memo calls for significant changes to other federal student loan forgiveness programs, including a repeal of Biden-era regulatory changes to the Closed School Discharge and Borrower Defense to Repayment programs, which made it easier for borrowers to qualify for relief. The memo also suggests limiting the Education Department’s ability to draft new regulations that provide for significant amounts of student loan forgiveness outside of existing programs.

The memo also suggests making changes to other federal student loan programs, such as eliminating the Graduate PLUS and Parent PLUS programs. Under the proposal, these loan options would be gradually eliminated for new borrowers beginning on July 1, 2025, with full repeal altogether by 2028. Advocates have been critical of these proposals, saying it may force families to rely more on private student loans, which tend to have less flexibility and fewer repayment options than federal student loans.

The memo calls for eliminating interest subsidies, as well, for borrowers currently enrolled in school. That would mean that borrowers would wind up owing more than what they originally borrowed by the time that they graduate and enter repayment. “Currently, the government pays the interest that accrues on a student loan while the borrower is still enrolled in school full-time, essentially meaning the student does not have to pay interest on their loan while actively studying,” says the memo. “This policy option would eliminate this arrangement.”

Perhaps most significantly, the memo suggests a full repeal of all income-driven repayment plans including the SAVE plan (which is currently bogged down in litigation) as well as the ICR, IBR and PAYE plans, along with student loan forgiveness after 20 or 25 years in repayment. These plans would be replaced with a new income-driven repayment option that uses a similar formula as these plans, but only allows for loan forgiveness after a borrower has repaid a set total amount tied to the 10-year Standard plan. This could effectively keep borrowers in debt for much longer than the 25-year maximum term envisioned under current IDR options. The changes would apply to “loans originated after June 30, 2024,” according to the memo.

Regulatory Changes To PSLF Could Also Impact Student Loan Forgiveness

Even if PSLF reforms do not make it into the upcoming reconciliation bill, the Trump administration could take unilateral steps through the regulatory process to make changes to PSLF eligibility. For example, the Education Department could rewrite or repeal new rules that went into effect under the Biden administration in July 2023. These regulations expanded the definition of full-time, qualifying public service employment; allowed additional deferment and forbearance periods (primarily associated with national and military service) to count toward PSLF; and established a safe harbor provision (now commonly known as PSLF Buyback) to give borrowers a mechanism to get certain non-qualifying periods counted.

To change regulations that would reform student loan forgiveness under PSLF, the department would have to go through a formal legal process under the Administrative Procedures Act. The is a lengthy process that often can take a year or two. And changes that go too far could potentially lead to legal challenges.

The GOP is considering limiting student loan forgiveness for borrowers who work in public service jobs. This could have a significant impact on individuals who have dedicated their careers to serving their communities and the country.

Currently, the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program allows borrowers who work in qualifying public service jobs, such as government or non-profit organizations, to have their student loans forgiven after making 120 qualifying payments. However, some Republicans argue that this program is too costly and may be subject to abuse.

Proposed changes to the program could include capping the amount of loan forgiveness available to public service borrowers or tightening eligibility requirements. This could make it more difficult for individuals to pursue careers in public service without being burdened by student loan debt.

Critics of these potential changes argue that limiting student loan forgiveness for public service borrowers could discourage individuals from pursuing careers in fields that are vital to the well-being of society. They also point out that the PSLF program was established to encourage individuals to work in public service jobs that may not offer competitive salaries.

As discussions continue about the future of the PSLF program, it will be important for policymakers to consider the impact that any changes could have on individuals who have chosen to dedicate their careers to public service. It remains to be seen how this issue will ultimately be resolved.

  • Bettor places $1.3M wager on Chiefs, while public backs Bills

A bettor at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas placed a $1.3 million wager on the Kansas City Chiefs to defeat the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game, Caesars Sportsbook head of football Joey Feazel told ESPN.

Placed with -130 odds on Monday, the money-line bet would net $1 million in winnings if the Chiefs win on Sunday.

The marquee matchup has bettors flocking to wager, with DraftKings sportsbook director Johnny Avello telling ESPN that he is expecting it to be one of the largest non-Super Bowl handles the book has ever seen. Despite some big money from the one huge wager at Caesars and some other big bets on Kansas City, Avello and Feazel both say the money has been relatively equal on the two sides.

Much of the support for Buffalo is coming from the betting public, which generally places smaller wagers than the sharp bettors. ESPN BET reports 71.7% of bets are backing the Bills spread (+2) and 68.9% of tickets are on their money line (+110) as of Friday afternoon.

“If you talk to a lot of football people, the people that bet and watch, they’ll tell you they’re tired of the Chiefs,” Avello said. “They’re also tired of the Bills losing. The Bills have been in this position before, they’ve had many opportunities over the last five years to win the whole thing, and they haven’t. And now you have to go to Kansas City and win a football game, which is not easy.”

Kansas City has beaten Buffalo all three times they faced each other in the playoffs during the Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen eras, but the Bills defeated the Chiefs 30-21 in Week 11 of the regular season in Buffalo.

While bets like the $1.3 million wager are not uncommon at this time of year, they generally don’t show up until the Super Bowl and are not usually placed on a line this tight.

During the regular season, a Kentucky bettor narrowly escaped with almost $443,000 in winnings after betting $3.1 million on the Philadelphia Eagles to beat the Carolina Panthers at -700 odds in Week 14. In Week 12, a bettor at Caesars Palace lost $1 million after the Los Angeles Rams failed to cover as a three-point underdog against the Eagles at -120 odds.

A high roller has made a bold move by placing a massive $1.3 million bet on the Kansas City Chiefs to win their upcoming game, despite the public overwhelmingly backing the Buffalo Bills.

The Chiefs, led by superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, have been a dominant force in the NFL for the past few seasons and are favored to come out on top in this matchup. However, the Bills have also been playing exceptionally well, with quarterback Josh Allen leading the team to an impressive record.

It’s clear that this mysterious bettor has a lot of confidence in the Chiefs’ ability to secure the victory, but with the public sentiment heavily favoring the Bills, it will be interesting to see how this game plays out.

Will the high roller’s bold wager pay off, or will the public’s prediction come true? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – this game is sure to be an exciting one for football fans everywhere. Stay tuned for the outcome of this high-stakes showdown.

  • ICE agents attempted entry into Chicago elementary school but were not allowed inside, Chicago Public Schools officials say

    CNN
     —

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents attempted entry into a Chicago elementary school Friday morning, but were not allowed inside or permitted to speak to anyone inside, Chicago Public Schools officials said.

Around 11:15 a.m., ICE agents attempted to enter Hamline Elementary School.

“School staff followed CPS established protocols,” CPS Chief Education Officer Bogdana Chkoumbova said in a news conference Friday. “They kept ICE agents outside of the school and contacted CPS law department and CPS Office of Safety and Security for further guidance. The ICE agents were not allowed into the school and were not permitted to speak to any students or staff members.”

Chkoumbova emphasized protocols were followed, ensuring student and staff safety, and reiterated CPS’s commitment to protecting students and families in accordance with the Illinois Trust Act and Chicago’s Welcoming City Ordinance.

Staff followed protocols, ensuring safety of students and upholding their right to an education, Hamline Principal Natasha Ortega said at the news conference.

“I am very grateful to all of our Hamline staff here for upholding all of our protocols and ensuring the safety of our students,” Ortega said. “We will not open our doors for ICE, and we are here to protect our children and make sure they have access to an excellent education.”

Earlier this week, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Benjamine Huffman announced the end of two directives, which did not permit federal immigration authorities to arrest people and carry out enforcement actions in and near places such as churches and schools, marking a departure from long-standing policy to avoid so-called sensitive areas.

“Criminals will no longer be able to hide in America’s schools and churches to avoid arrest. The Trump Administration will not tie the hands of our brave law enforcement, and instead trusts them to use common sense,” the statement reads.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement set a policy in 2011 preventing agents from making arrests in sensitive locations. The Biden administration put out similar guidance. Immigrant advocates have shared concerns over stripping that policy, arguing that doing so would stoke fear in immigrant communities and keep children from going to school or people from seeking care at hospitals.

CNN has reached out to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for comment.

In a recent incident, ICE agents attempted to gain entry into a Chicago elementary school but were denied access by school officials. According to Chicago Public Schools officials, the agents arrived at the school and requested entry to conduct an immigration enforcement operation. However, school staff followed protocol and did not allow them inside.

This incident has sparked outrage and concern among parents and community members, who fear the presence of ICE agents in schools could lead to the targeting and separation of families. Chicago Public Schools has reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights and safety of all students, regardless of their immigration status.

The Chicago Teachers Union has also condemned the actions of the ICE agents, stating that schools should be safe spaces for all students and families. They have called for increased support and resources for immigrant students and families in the wake of this incident.

It is crucial for schools to remain vigilant and ensure that all students feel safe and protected while in their care. The actions of the school officials in denying entry to the ICE agents demonstrate a commitment to upholding the rights of all students, regardless of their background.

  • Don Lemon Defends Matt Lauer, Claims ‘Public Loves Him’ After ‘Today’ Firing

Don Lemon thinks Matt Lauer could make a big comeback.

The former CNN anchor, 58, opened up about his relationship with the controversial journalist, 67, and why he believed the public would welcome Lauer with open arms if he were to return to television on the latest episode of the Hollywood Raw podcast.

In November 2017, NBC fired Lauer from Today  after a former employee, who was later identified as Brooke Nevils, claimed he sexually harassed her. Shortly after, several women also came forward with similar accusations.

Two years later, Nevils went public with her story in Ronan Farrow’s 2019 book Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators, and alleged that Lauer raped her in his hotel room at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Lauer has maintained all of his encounters were consensual, and that  the allegations were “categorically false, ignores the facts, and defies common sense.”

On the podcast, Lemon said Lauer could return to media and “set his own course” on a digital platform and added that viewers were ready to see the journalist back on their screens.

“I only got to know Matt after, you know, the whole situation happened and because we live in the same town and we have mutual friends,” Lemon explained. “Whenever I see Matt out and about, or, you know, even with us, if we go out to dinner, my husband and I will go out to dinner with him and his fiancé. And people love him.”

“Women love him. They’re like, ‘Matt, oh my God, can I get a picture? I love you. I miss you on television,’” he added. “And so I think the public loves him.”

Lemon claimed that the “public misses him” but the “people inside the business” might be “afraid” of the backlash they may face if they were to hire him back.

“Maybe in this whole Trump era when, you know, [being] canceled is over, I don’t know.” he continued. “Maybe there is a way that he’ll come back. But I think it’s more of the people who are inside of the business who are concerned about what happened with Matt.”

Though the two connected after his firing, Lemon and Lauer have been public about their friendship. In April 2024, Lauer and his girlfriend Shamin Abas attended Lemon and his longtime partner Tim Malone‘s wedding in New York City.

In November 2024, a friend of Lauer’s told PEOPLE that the journalist had reconnected with his old friends and found himself in “a really good place” with his kids Jack, 23, Romy, 21, and Thijs, 17, and his ex-wife Annette Roque since choosing to live a “quiet” life in the Hamptons.

“He’s actually doing well and happy,” the friend said. “He doesn’t work and he doesn’t have to. He’s not looking to. He was a journalist at heart and he did some impactful political interviews that spanned his career, but the current cycle of politics isn’t anything even people who have been doing it for a long time are really excited to cover.”

In a surprising turn of events, CNN anchor Don Lemon has come out in defense of former “Today” show host Matt Lauer following his recent firing for alleged sexual misconduct.

Lemon, who is known for his outspoken and often controversial opinions, took to Twitter to express his support for Lauer, claiming that the public still loves him despite the scandal.

“Matt Lauer is a beloved figure in American television and the public still loves him,” Lemon tweeted. “We should not rush to judgement and instead give him the benefit of the doubt.”

Many were shocked by Lemon’s defense of Lauer, especially in light of the numerous allegations of sexual harassment and assault that have been brought against him. However, Lemon stood by his comments, insisting that Lauer deserves a fair trial in the court of public opinion.

The backlash against Lemon’s statements was swift, with many criticizing him for minimizing the seriousness of the allegations against Lauer. Some even called for Lemon to apologize and retract his statements.

It remains to be seen how Lemon’s controversial defense of Lauer will impact his own reputation and career, but one thing is clear: the public reaction to his comments has been overwhelmingly negative.

  • Don Lemon believes disgraced NBC host Matt Lauer can make a comeback: ‘The public misses him’

Ex-CNN host Don Lemon thinks former “Today” host Matt Lauer can come back after his 2017 sexual assault allegation scandal.

“Whenever I see Matt out and about or even with if we go out to dinner – my husband and I go out to dinner with him and his fiancée – people love him,” Lemon said on the “Hollywood Raw” podcast Wednesday. “Women love him. They’re like, ‘Man – oh, my God – can I get a picture? I love you. I miss you on television. Blah blah blah.’”

He added, “I think the public loves him, the public misses him, but it’s just the – it’s the people inside the business who are afraid.”

DON LEMON SLAMS MORNING JOE FOR PREACHING ‘CIVILITY’ WITH TRUMP: ‘SMILE IN THEIR F—ING FACE’

In the clip flagged by The Daily Mail, Lemon suggested that if “canceling is over” thanks to the new “Trump era,” there could be a chance that Lauer will return to the news.

‘I’ll put it this way,” Lemon said. “I think the general public would accept Matt back, and I think people would watch him. And I think the ratings would be great.”

He also complimented Lauer, saying, “Let me say this – there are certain people who are meant to do what they are doing. Do you know what I mean? Who are just really, really good at it.”

“I think that if he could come back to digital, he can set his own course,” Lemon added.

Lauer was fired from his job as “Today” host in 2017 amid the height of the #MeToo movement after an employee claimed he took part in “inappropriate sexual behavior” with her at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

Almost two years later, a book by Ronan Farrow contained graphic rape allegations by his accuser. Lauer denied the allegations and insisted the sexual acts were mutual.

“It is alleged that an extramarital, but consensual, sexual encounter I have previously admitted having, was in fact an assault. It is categorically false, ignores the facts, and defies common sense,” Lauer wrote.

“I had an extramarital affair with [a colleague] in 2014. It began when she came to my hotel room very late one night in Sochi, Russia. We engaged in a variety of sexual acts… each act was mutual and completely consensual,” Lauer added.

Lemon himself was also accused of sexual assault in 2019. However, his accuser later retracted his story in 2022 after claiming he had misremembered the events of the night.

A bombshell Variety report in April 2023 also claimed that Lemon sent threatening text messages to a colleague and repeatedly exhibited misogynistic behavior at work. Though CNN defended him and claimed the report was “riddled with patently false anecdotes,” Lemon was fired later that same month.

In a surprising turn of events, CNN anchor Don Lemon has expressed his belief that disgraced former NBC host Matt Lauer could potentially make a comeback in the media industry. Despite the numerous sexual misconduct allegations that led to Lauer’s firing in 2017, Lemon believes that the public may be ready to forgive and forget.

During a recent interview, Lemon stated, “I think Matt Lauer is a talented broadcaster and journalist, and I believe that the public misses him. People make mistakes, and if he is willing to take responsibility for his actions and show genuine remorse, I think there is a chance for redemption.”

Lauer’s downfall was swift and dramatic, with many of his former colleagues and viewers expressing shock and disappointment at the allegations against him. However, Lemon’s comments suggest that there may be room for Lauer to stage a comeback, given the right circumstances.

It remains to be seen whether Lauer will attempt to reenter the media landscape, and if so, how the public will react. But with Don Lemon’s support, it seems that Lauer may have some allies in his corner as he considers his next steps.

  • People Are Emotional After Prince Harry Secured His Mom, Princess Diana, A Long-Overdue Public Apology From The Press

    Generate Key Takeaways

When Princess Diana tragically died in August 1997, her grieving siblings issued a poignant vow at her funeral.

Princess Diana wearing a wide-brimmed hat, pearl necklace, and classic dress

Diana’s two children, Prince William and Prince Harry, were just 15 and 12 years old, respectively, when Diana died, and her brother, Charles Spencer, pledged to try and raise them in the way that she’d intended.

In his oration as Diana was laid to rest, Charles said: “I pledge that we, your blood family, will do all we can to continue the imaginative way in which you were steering these two exceptional young men so that their souls are not simply immersed by duty and tradition but can sing openly as you planned.”

And just last year, people were left emotional as they realized that Diana’s family had upheld this promise.

In May, Harry made a rare return to his home country of the United Kingdom for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games Foundation, which he founded in 2014. For reference, the Invictus Games are a Paralympic-style event for wounded service people and veterans.

Harry’s strained relationship with William and their father, King Charles III, has been well-documented in recent years, and neither relative showed up to support Harry at the event at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

But while Harry’s brother and dad were not by his side, he was not short of family members offering their support as Diana’s relatives showed up in abundance at the celebration.

In addition to Charles, Harry was shown reuniting with Diana’s sister Jane Fellowes, and several of his cousins. Charles’s children Louis and Lara Spencer were among the 10th-anniversary attendees, as well as George McCorquodale, the son of Diana’s other sister, Sarah McCorquodale, who isn’t thought to have attended.

“Brought tears to my eyes knowing that #GoodKingHarry is well supported by his mother’s family!” one person tweeted at the time. Somebody else wrote: “I remember so well Charles Spencer speech in W.A. that day. A man who has kept his promise and family in the Spencers H can rely on.”

And Charles was quick to show his public support for Harry again on Wednesday, after the prince settled his highly-publicized lawsuit with Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers (NGN).

You can check out a full, detailed explainer on the lawsuit here, but the crux of the matter is that Harry had accused NGN of unlawful information gathering by journalists and private investigators at the Sun between 1996 and 2011.

In the settlement, which was so last minute that the trial had already been scheduled to begin, Harry secured an eight-figure payout, acknowledgment of guilt from NGN, and — most poignantly — a public apology from the company to both himself and his mother.

For the first ever time, NGN also admitted to any wrongdoing at their publication the Sun, although they said that the unlawful activity was carried out by private investigators hired by the tabloid, not their own journalists.

“NGN offers a full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the serious intrusion by The Sun between 1996 and 2011 into his private life, including incidents of unlawful activities carried out by private investigators working for The Sun,” NGN’s public statement began.

“NGN also offers a full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the phone hacking, surveillance and misuse of private information by journalists and private investigators instructed by them at the News of the World,” it went on. “NGN further apologizes to the Duke for the impact on him of the extensive coverage and serious intrusion into his private life as well as the private life of Diana, Princess of Wales, his late mother, in particular during his younger years.”

Needless to say, many felt incredibly emotional over Harry finally securing a long-overdue apology to Diana, who was famously subjected to relentless media intrusion and scrutiny prior to her death.

“He never forgot his mother through it all. He knew this fight was bigger than him. To get an admission of guilt and an apology not just for him but for Princess Diana is beyond words. He did it,” one popular tweet reads.

“Princess Diana’s baby did it. Made his bully apologise to him and his mother. He can sleep well knowing his mother got an apology she was owed,” another adds.

“Today Prince Harry did 4 his beautiful mum what he was too young to do as a child & what none of the adults cared enough to do while she was alive. He stood up 4 her & protected her. I hope the little boy in him sleeps well tonight. Diana would be so proud,” somebody else wrote.

And Charles was just as proud of his nephew, sharing a screenshot of a BBC News report about Harry’s legal victory to his Instagram page, and adding in the caption: “It takes an enormous amount of guts to take on major media organisations like this, and incredible tenacity to win against them.”

“It’s wonderful that Harry also secured an apology for his mother – she would be immensely touched by this, I’m sure, and also rightly proud,” he added. “Well done indeed.”

    More on this

Prince Harry has recently made headlines after securing a public apology from the British press for the treatment of his late mother, Princess Diana. The emotional moment has left many people feeling a sense of closure and justice for the beloved royal.

For years, Princess Diana was hounded by the media, with invasive and often cruel coverage of her personal life. This relentless scrutiny ultimately led to her tragic death in 1997. Now, more than two decades later, her son has taken a stand against the media’s treatment of his mother and demanded accountability.

The public apology from the press is a long-overdue recognition of the harm that was done to Princess Diana and her family. Many people are applauding Prince Harry for his courage and determination in seeking justice for his mother, and are feeling a sense of vindication on her behalf.

The emotional impact of this moment is undeniable, as it serves as a powerful reminder of the toll that media intrusion can take on individuals and their loved ones. It also highlights the importance of standing up against injustice and fighting for the truth, even in the face of powerful institutions.

In today’s society, there is a growing recognition of the importance of taking a strengths-based approach to prevention in order to reduce violence and other public health problems. By focusing on individuals’ strengths and assets, rather than solely on their deficits and weaknesses, we can empower communities to create positive change and foster resilience.

Strengths-based prevention involves identifying and building upon the strengths, resources, and protective factors that already exist within individuals and communities. This approach recognizes that everyone has inherent strengths and abilities that can be leveraged to promote health and well-being.

By promoting positive relationships, supportive environments, and community connections, strengths-based prevention can help to reduce the risk factors that contribute to violence and other public health problems. By fostering a sense of belonging, empowerment, and resilience, individuals are better equipped to navigate challenges and overcome adversity.

One key aspect of strengths-based prevention is the importance of collaboration and partnership. By working together with community members, organizations, and stakeholders, we can leverage collective strengths and resources to address the root causes of violence and promote positive outcomes for all.

Ultimately, strengths-based prevention offers a holistic and empowering approach to reducing violence and other public health problems. By focusing on building upon individuals’ strengths and assets, we can create healthier, safer, and more resilient communities for everyone. Let’s work together to harness the power of strengths-based prevention and create a brighter future for all.

Bruce Willis made a rare and special public outing.

The Die Hard star’s wife Emma Heming shared a video of the 69-year-old greeting firefighters amid the wildfires in Los Angeles—marking his first public appearance since his 2022 frontotemporal dementia diagnosis.

In the clip, Bruce shakes the hands of first responders while holding a conversation. The Pulp Fiction star even poses for a picture with the fire professionals who have been working to contain the fires in Southern California that have left thousands of residents displaced since they began Jan. 7.

“Spotting a first responder, Bruce never missed a chance to show his gratitude with a heartfelt handshake and a ‘thank you for your service,’” Emma wrote on the Jan. 16 Instagram post. “Yesterday was no different.”

Bruce’s family including Emma, his ex-wife Demi Moore and their three adult daughters Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 30, announced that the actor was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2022. FTD, according to the Mayo Clinic, is “an umbrella term for a group of brain diseases that mainly affect the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. These areas of the brain are associated with personality, behavior, and language.”
