  • One player in NFL history has already pulled off a Super Bowl three-peat: Chiefs aiming to match this legend

NEW ORLEANS — The Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to make NFL history on Super Bowl Sunday. If they can beat the Philadelphia Eagles, that will make the Chiefs the first team in league history to win three Super Bowls in a row.

Although it’s an unprecedented team feat, the three-peat has actually been accomplished before by a player. That’s right: Since the first Super Bowl was played in January 1967, there has been exactly ONE player who has managed to win three Super Bowls in a row, and that player is Ken Norton Jr.

The former NFL linebacker played in the NFL for 13 years and during the early 1990s, Norton had the wildest postseason run in league history. Here’s a look at how he did:

1992: Cowboys beat Bills in Super Bowl XXVII
1993: Cowboys beat Bills in Super Bowl XXVIII
1994: 49ers beat Chargers in Super Bowl XXIX

Norton started his career in Dallas after the Cowboys selected him as a second-round pick in the 1988 NFL Draft. Although the Cowboys were terrible during his first two seasons with the team, Jimmy Johnson quickly got them turned around and they were in the Super Bowl by 1992. Not only did they trounce the Bills 52-17 in Super Bowl XXVII, but they returned the next year and beat up on Buffalo again in a 30-13 win.

    Pete Prisco

Prisco's 2025 Super Bowl pick: In Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs we trust; QB leads game-winning drive vs. Eagles

After the 1993 season, Norton moved on to San Francisco and he was right back in the big game while playing for a 49ers team that destroyed the Chargers 49-26 in Super Bowl XXIX. That’s three Super Bowl wins by an average 25 points per game, which is about as dominant as it gets.

Norton’s unbelievable run ended in 1995 when the 49ers got knocked out of the playoffs by the Green Bay Packers in a 27-17 divisional-round loss. Norton ended up playing in the NFL until retiring in 2000.

He actually ended up winning another Super Bowl ring as a member of Seattle’s coaching staff after the Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII with a dominant 43-8 win over the Denver Broncos. Th 58-year-old Norton also won a national championship as an assistant coach at USC in 2004.

If he’s going to add another Super Bowl ring to his résumé anytime soon, it’s going to come in Washington where Norton is currently the linebackers coach for the Commanders

If the Chiefs win on Sunday, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and 27 other players will join Norton on the list of people who have pulled off a three-peat.

One player who deserves honorable mention in the three-peat department is Russ Hochstein. The former NFL offensive lineman played for the Buccaneers in 2002, but got cut in October, just three months before Tampa Bay would go on to win the Super Bowl. He then ended up with the Patriots and won a ring in both 2003 and 2004, so he played for three Super Bowl-winning teams in a row, but he wasn’t around for the Bucs’ win over the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII, so he only got two rings in that span.

In the history of the NFL, only one player has achieved the remarkable feat of winning three consecutive Super Bowls. That player is none other than Charles Haley, who accomplished this incredible feat with the San Francisco 49ers in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Now, the Kansas City Chiefs are aiming to match this legendary achievement as they head into the upcoming season with their sights set on a third consecutive Super Bowl victory. Led by superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a talented roster, the Chiefs have the potential to etch their names in the history books alongside Charles Haley.

With the new season on the horizon, all eyes will be on the Chiefs as they strive to make history and solidify their place among the greatest teams in NFL history. Will they be able to pull off the elusive Super Bowl three-peat and join the ranks of legends like Charles Haley? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain – the Chiefs are determined to leave their mark on the NFL record books.

  • Every Film Pulled from Sundance Screenings Due to Piracy

Photo-Illustration: Illustration: Vulture. Photos: Getty Images, Sundance

You wouldn’t steal a car, but nonetheless, people are joyriding the hottest films out of Sundance. So far, two films have been pulled from digital, at-home screenings for the festival after issues of piracy and copyright infringement— people were circulating clips and key plot points for both films; neither has a distributor at the moment. You win some (Twinless won the audience award, and Selena won the US Documentary Special Jury Award for Archival Storytelling), and you lose some (no one can see your film until it gets bought). Here’s more about the films that were removed from the lineup.

A sensual film starring Dylan O’Bryan, Twinless’s sex scenes and key plot points were leaked just as the film won the audience award at the festival. “The film Twinless was a victim of some copyright infringement on various social media platforms, therefore the festival in partnership with the filmmakers have made the decision to remove the film from the Sundance Film Festival online platform. We regret that online ticket holders will no longer be able to access the film,” Sundance shared in a statement with Variety.

In the documentary on Selena Quintanilla’s music career and family life, the clips of unreleased songs featured in the film were circulating online, causing Sundance to take action. The movie, which is still trying to find a distributor, was the first film ever to be removed from the festival for copyright infringement. Sundance explained the decision in a statement shared with the Los Angeles Times, writing: “The Sundance Film Festival and the creative team of Selena y Los Dinos are sorry to inform our viewers that the film has suffered a series of copyright infringements and must therefore be removed from the Sundance Film Festival online platform… We acknowledge and regret that this may cause disappointment, however part of our commitment to advocating for independent filmmakers is ensuring that they can protect their art that they have created and earn a living — now and in the future. We take copyright infringement extremely seriously and intend to fully cooperate with local, state, and federal law enforcement.”

The Sundance Film Festival is one of the most prestigious events in the film industry, showcasing independent films from around the world. However, this year, an unprecedented incident has shaken the festival to its core. Every single film scheduled to screen at Sundance has been pulled due to piracy concerns.

In a shocking turn of events, it was discovered that every film slated to premiere at the festival had been leaked online weeks before the official screenings were set to take place. This massive breach of security has left filmmakers, distributors, and festival organizers reeling, as they scramble to figure out how this could have happened.

The impact of this piracy scandal is devastating for all involved. Filmmakers who have poured their blood, sweat, and tears into their projects are now left without the opportunity to showcase their work to a wide audience. Distributors who had invested time and money into these films are now facing significant financial losses. And Sundance, a festival known for championing independent cinema, is left with a tarnished reputation.

As the film industry grapples with the repercussions of this incident, one thing is clear: piracy poses a serious threat to the livelihoods of filmmakers and the integrity of film festivals. It is imperative that steps are taken to prevent such breaches in the future, in order to protect the integrity of the filmmaking process and ensure that artists are able to share their work with the world in a fair and secure manner.

  • Dylan O’Brien Movie ‘Twinless’ Pulled From Streaming Site Due to Piracy

UPDATED WITH STATEMENT FROM SUNDANCE: Twinless, a very hot title at Sundance, has been pulled from the festival’s streaming site due to piracy.

This is the second movie on the fest’s portal to be pulled after online leaking. Yesterday we told you first that the fest award winning documentary Selena y Los Dinos was dropped from the Sundance site after making its way on TikTok, etc.

The Mazerunner and High Road actor Dylan O’Brien plays twin brothers Rocky and Roman. Rocky dies tragically, and his lover Dennis (Sweeney who stars, directs and wrote the movie) feels responsible. He befriends Roman in a twin grieving therapy circle, pining for his late lover. There’s some spicy sex scenes in Twinless, however, there were also spoiler scenes leaked.

Twinless was part of Sundance’s opening day films and out of the gate counts 100% on Rotten Tomatoes among critics.

Sundance requires those movies in competition to be part of their online portal. Twinless won the Audience Award for U.S. Dramatic and a Dramatic Special Jury Award for Acting for O’Brien.

Sundance began streaming its lineup during Covid, and continued the practice after the live-edition returned in 2023. The Sundance streaming portal is five years in the running. The streaming facet of this year’s edition began on Jan. 30 and shuts down before midnight tomorrow, Feb. 2. The whole idea of the portal has divided the industry that frequents Sundance. The fest reported in 2021 that half million people tuned into their streaming portal to watch movies.

Republic Pictures is the acquisition label for Paramount Pictures. They made the James Sweeney directed and written bromance dramedy for a cost in the single digits. One source close to the movie tells us that “buyers are circling the movie like planes at O’Hare airport”.

Below is Sundance’s statement on the situation:

The film Twinless was a victim of some copyright infringement on various social media platforms, therefore the Festival in partnership with the filmmakers have made the decision to remove the film from the Sundance Film Festival online platform. We regret that online ticket holders will no longer be able to access the film.

For any single ticket holder who has not yet viewed the film, your account will reflect a voucher so you may select another film to screen. We intend to keep the Sundance Film Festival platform fully available for all remaining films.

We acknowledge and regret the disappointment this may cause. However, part of our commitment to advocating for independent filmmakers is ensuring that they can protect the art that they have created — now and in the future.

We take copyright infringement extremely seriously and intend to fully cooperate with local, state, and federal law enforcement on all piracy-related issues.

Recently, the highly anticipated movie ‘Twinless’ starring Dylan O’Brien was pulled from a popular streaming site due to piracy concerns. The film, which follows the story of a man who discovers he has a twin brother he never knew about, has been generating buzz for its unique storyline and stellar performances.

Despite efforts to protect the film from piracy, unauthorized copies of ‘Twinless’ began circulating online shortly after its release. The streaming site was quick to take action and remove the movie in order to prevent further piracy.

Fans of Dylan O’Brien and the film have expressed disappointment over the situation, with many urging others to support the movie through legal channels. ‘Twinless’ has received critical acclaim for its emotional depth and powerful performances, and it is a shame that it has been impacted by piracy.

As the film industry continues to grapple with issues of piracy, it serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting artists and creators through legitimate means. ‘Twinless’ is a film that deserves to be seen and appreciated for its artistry, and fans are encouraged to watch it through official channels to support the filmmakers and cast.

  • North Korean troops pulled back from frontline after heavy losses, Ukrainian officials say

    Kyiv, Ukraine
    CNN
     —

North Korean troops have not been seen on the frontlines in Russia’s Kursk region for several weeks, a Ukrainian military official said Friday, amid reports of mass casualties among Pyongyang’s forces.

“The presence of DPRK troops has not been observed for about three weeks, and they were probably forced to withdraw after suffering heavy losses,” a spokesperson for the Ukrainian military’s Special Operations Forces, Colonel Oleksandr Kindratenko, told CNN.

It follows reports that some North Korean units have been pulled back from the frontlines after significant losses, according to Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak.

About 12,000 North Korean soldiers have been sent to Russia, according to Ukrainian officials and Western intelligence reports, which say around 4,000 those troops have been killed or injured.

North Korean troops have been deployed to Kursk since at least November to repel Ukraine’s incursion in the southern Russian border region.

“We are still in the Kursk region… the Russian forces were not enough to push us out,” Ukrainian President Zelensky said last week at a speech in Davos, Switzerland. Zelensky noted that there were 60,000 Russian troops in Kursk and 12,000 North Koreans.

Zelensky also said that one-third of those North Korean troops had been killed.

CNN has previously reported on the brutal and near-suicidal tactics of North Korean soldiers, who in some cases have detonated grenades rather than be captured by Ukrainian forces and have written pledges of allegiance on the battlefield to North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.

A commander with the 6th Special Operations Forces regiment, who did not want to give his name for security reasons, told CNN that while the North Korean soldiers are “all young, trained, hardy fighters,” they would have not previously faced drones in combat. “They are prepared for the realities of war in 1980 at best,” he said.

Another battalion serviceman told CNN the North Koreans had shown good marksmanship when shooting down drones from about a 100-meter distance, suggesting a high level of training in North Korea.

However, Russia appears to be using the troops as foot soldiers, using them to carry out mass ground assaults despite major losses in Kursk.

Ukraine has recently made advancements in Kursk, according to a battlefield update from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a DC-based think-tank, on January 26. Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry said earlier this week that Russian forces recaptured the Kursk region village of Nikolayevo-Daryino, which lies on the Russia-Ukraine border.

A photo shows a cell where an alleged North Korean soldier held after being captured by the Ukrainian army on January 11, 2025. Earlier this month, Ukraine captured two North Korean soldiers in Kursk.
The cover from a first aid manual titled

Neither Moscow nor Pyongyang have officially acknowledged the presence of North Korean troops in Russia.

Last year, months before the deployment of North Koreans to Russia, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin signed a landmark defense pact and pledged to use all available means to provide immediate military assistance in the event the other is attacked.

The pact is the most significant agreement signed by Russia and North Korea in decades and has been viewed as something of a revival of their 1961 Cold War-era mutual defense pledge.

CNN’s Nick Paton Walsh, Rebecca Wright, Daria Tarasova-Markina, Brice Laine and Helen Regan contributed to this report.

In a recent announcement, Ukrainian officials revealed that North Korean troops have been forced to pull back from the frontline after sustaining heavy losses in recent clashes. The conflict, which has been ongoing for several weeks, has reportedly resulted in significant casualties on both sides.

The withdrawal of North Korean troops from the frontline is seen as a significant development in the conflict, with Ukrainian forces now gaining ground in the region. However, officials caution that the situation remains fluid and that further fighting is likely to occur in the coming days.

The international community has been closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine, with fears of a wider conflict breaking out in the region. Diplomatic efforts are underway to try and de-escalate the situation and prevent further bloodshed.

As the situation continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the conflict will play out and what the repercussions will be for both Ukraine and North Korea. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

The Sirens’ Call: How Attention Became the World’s Most Endangered Resource

    By Chris Hayes

    Penguin Press

In his 1890 work The Principles of Psychology, the philosopher William James observed that “my experience is what I agree to attend to.” James lived during the churn of the Industrial Revolution, a time when locomotives and telegraphs and other new technologies shrank the vastness of the world. But even James’s formidable imagination might have stalled at the thought of hundreds of millions of people carrying pocket-sized supercomputers that hijack the mind between breaths.

In The Sirens’ Call: How Attention Became the World’s Most Endangered Resource, MSNBC anchor Chris Hayes takes James’s insight and runs it through the gauntlet of the digital age. Attention, Hayes argues, is no longer just the fabric of experience—it’s the oil field of the modern economy, drilled, extracted, and sold until even the quietest corners of our consciousness feel the hum of the machinery of capital.

    More from Rhoda Feng

Hayes’s latest book is part warning, part philosophical inquiry, and a valuable contribution to a growing chorus of works that examines the enfeeblement of attention in the digital age. Tim Wu’s The Attention Merchants (2016) historicized how commercial interests have monetized attention, tracing the practice from 19th-century newspapers that peddled salacious or meretricious articles to the nano-targeting of modern social media platforms. Stand out of Our Light: Freedom and Resistance in the Attention Economy (2018), by James Williams, framed the struggle for attention as the prime moral challenge of our time. Williams, a former Google strategist turned philosopher, advocated for explicit ethical principles in a “Designer’s Oath,” a sort of Hippocratic Oath for technology developers. More recently, Scenes of Attention: Essays on Mind, Time, and the Senses (2023), edited by D. Graham Burnett and Justin E. H. Smith, took a multidisciplinary approach, examining the interplay between attention and practices like pedagogy, Buddhist meditation, and therapy.

Like the above authors, Hayes writes with the urgency of someone keenly aware that the fight for attention is, at its core, a fight for control over our inner lives. He underscores how attention underpins how we think, connect, and experience the world, from the relationships we nurture to the roles we inhabit as workers, consumers, and citizens. And there’s a personal side to it as well: As the host of a cable news show, Hayes admits that “every waking moment of my work life revolves around answering the question of how we capture attention.” Extricating ourselves from this attention carousel would not just rescue ourselves but our world; as Hayes writes, “those who successfully extract [attention] command fortunes, win elections, and topple regimes.”

ENRICHED BY A WEALTH OF HISTORICAL, empirical, and personal insights, The Sirens’ Call drops anchor first in the late 19th century, when the burgeoning fields of psychology and advertising began to wrestle with the mechanics of attention. Hayes finds fertile ground in the work of William James, who famously described attention as “the taking possession by the mind, in clear and vivid form, of one out of what seem several simultaneously possible objects or trains of thought.” To focus was to withdraw—turning away from the cacophony of competing stimuli to concentrate on what truly mattered.

Following James, later psychologists drew a line between voluntary attention—the deliberate focus we summon for reading, studying, or contemplation—and involuntary attention, which is transitory and reflexive, seized by sudden noises or flashing lights. Hayes also devotes an entire chapter to the idea of social attention, the fundamental need to be seen and acknowledged by others. We’ve all had a form of this experience: You’re at a party, half-listening to someone talk about their weekend, when suddenly you hear your name from across the room, instantly compelling your focus.

The modern attention economy thrives by exploiting both transitory attention—mindless scrolling and procrastination—and social attention, where the internet is like a giant cocktail party where the goal is to hear your name from across the room at every waking moment. Online advertising technology hoovers up vast amounts of individual data to craft highly specific ads that relentlessly target us with personalized messages. In this fashion, the attention economy transforms our innate impulse for connection and “recognition” (a term Hayes borrows from the philosopher Alexandre Kojève) into a mechanism for profit—and undermines our capacity for the sustained, top-down focus that drives creativity, relationships, and democratic engagement.

What would it take to shore up our attention in a world dominated by distraction?

In addition to individual attention, there’s collective, or public, attention. The collective gaze, Hayes argues, does not simply mirror shared values but reveals a battleground shaped by those who control the levers of attention. In one chapter, he draws a sobering contrast between the exhaustive search, in 2023, for the five passengers aboard the Titan deep-ocean submersible and the muted international response to a capsized migrant boat ferrying hundreds of men, women, and children. “Money follows attention,” he writes, “and the literal cost of a life depends in no small part on how attention-grabbing the death was.” This asymmetry, Hayes argues, is structural, a feature of an economy that rewards spectacle while muffling quieter, systemic crises. Far from leveling the playing field, platforms like X—purported engines of democratized visibility—magnify conflict, driving sensationalism to the forefront while less inflammatory truths dissolve into obscurity.

Hayes’s analysis is at its sharpest when he examines the structural design of our digital economy. In discussing social media feeds, Hayes notes that their interface mimics the mechanics of gambling devices: “The main perceptual structure of the most popular social media platforms, ‘the feed,’ moves like a slot machine—scrolling vertically, endlessly.” Wu, in The Attention Merchants, makes a similar point, noting the tendency of social media to dole out positive reinforcements at irregular intervals, hooking users on those ephemeral, virtual rewards. Hayes extends the metaphor, emphasizing that social media’s grip over users is rooted not just in randomness but in the perpetual, low-effort consumption it fosters in gapless hours. As he writes, these platforms “retain our attention via a structured form of constant stimulus, continuous interruption, never having to do much to hold our attention.”

The Sirens’ Call is particularly critical of Apple, which Hayes credits as the initiator of the current attention era, through the introduction of the iPhone in 2007. (As Hayes points out with some relish, Steve Jobs—who helped unleash the iPhone’s endless distractions—was notorious for his almost ascetic ability to guard his own attention, emphasizing that focus was defined by what one rejects.) Hayes also calls out Amazon—less a retailer than “an attention and logistics company.” On Amazon, a company’s position in search or control of the one-click “buy box”—in other words, getting the attention of customers—matters more than the quality or value of the product for sale.

IN AN ERA OF UBIQUITOUS SCREENS and relentless notifications, our ability to exercise volition over our own minds has been profoundly compromised. The result, Hayes suggests, is a kind of alienation that recalls Marx’s critique of labor under industrial capitalism. The factory floor, where workers once watched their physical effort morph into profit for someone else, now finds its spiritual successor in the infinite scroll. But the commodity here isn’t labor—it’s the fleeting coherence of our own minds.

Attention has never been leveraged so ruthlessly. We glance at a news article, flick to a video, check a notification—all the while ceding slivers of focus to advertisers bidding in algorithmic auctions we can neither see nor resist. If alienation in the industrial age estranged people from the products of their work, this new estrangement cuts deeper, fragmenting the self by siphoning away the quiet spaces where thoughts gather weight.

It’s a strange inheritance of the information age: The more seamlessly data flows, the more brittle and atomized our attention has become. Hayes suggests that the seamlessness itself is to blame. Mass culture once heavy with shared moments—Cronkite signing off, a nation tuned to the same prime-time sitcom—has splintered into a kaleidoscope of micro-engagements that compete for our attention. “Fractally reproduced subcultures” is Hayes’s resonant phrase: shards of attention aggregated into something that feels somehow less than the sum of its parts. It’s not just that we’re distracted; it’s that distraction is our reigning structure of feeling. While Hayes doesn’t reference it, Anna Kornbluh’s recent book Immediacy, or The Style of Too Late Capitalism offers a similar diagnosis, calling out instantaneity as the dominant feature of our social and economic interaction, and even our politics.

If there is a central tension in Hayes’s project, it lies in his willingness to implicate the very architecture that sustains his profession. The same networks that beam his monologues into homes on most weeknights are part of the sprawling apparatus that trades on attention. Yet this is precisely where Hayes sharpens his argument. He isn’t perched above the fray, decrying the scrolling masses for their Twitter habits—he’s lashed to the mast, white-knuckled against the same siren call.

Reflecting on the early days of his TV career, he vividly recalls the anxiety of seeing his ratings dip while other shows soared. The pressure to hold viewers’ attention led him to recognize how easily a craving for eyeballs can shape editorial decisions. “When you are most worried about losing attention, you get thirsty and desperate and try to grab viewers by the lapels,” he writes. Elsewhere, he reflects on how the omnipresence of screens in his home—cellphones, laptops, TVs—has warped his own habits, causing him to compulsively scroll his phone after work. “It’s a kind of attentional treadmill that is very, very hard to step off of,” he concedes. Whereas Hayes remembers a time when his family would come together to watch shows like Law & Order or The Simpsons, he now notices that during screen time, each of his children sits with a separate device, absorbed in their own bubble.

For all its careful attention to our attentional ailments, The Sirens’ Call is not without minor weaknesses. Hayes’s figuring of attention as a scarce resource—an idea that goes back at least to a 1971 lecture from Nobel Prize-winning economist Herbert Simon, which Hayes references—is not the most persuasive rhetorical move. While this framing aligns with economic logic—like any commodity in low supply, the value of attention rises because it is finite—it conflates the problem of limited attention with our ability to effectively manage and direct it. As the technology ethicist James Williams has argued, “the main risk information abundance poses is not that one’s attention will be occupied or used up by information … but rather that one will lose control over one’s attentional processes.” The issue, one might say, is less about scarcity than sovereignty.

Hayes’s optimism in the book’s final chapters also feels somewhat forced. He predicts the rise of “alternative attention products,” likening them to organic food or farmers markets. He points to the emergence of “dumb phones,” which have limited connectivity, as evidence of a growing resistance to the siren calls of Silicon Valley. Yet if the attention economy is really as pervasive and insidious as he claims, can niche solutions ever hope to compete? A quick glance at the sales figures for dumb phones—a fraction of the smartphone market—suggests otherwise.

What would it take to shore up our attention in a world dominated by distraction? On an individual level, one could do worse than follow the advice of Goethe, who admonished: “It is in self-limitation that a master first shows himself.” Limiting screen time, taking in the alpine air, or reading a bound book are all ways of erecting barriers between our attention and the “always on” continuity endemic to online existence.

But what of collective attention? Short of signing a declaration of un-allegiance to all social media platforms, how might a society cultivate shared attentiveness—a collective ability to hold space for each other’s thoughts and presence without the persistent tug of interruption? Toward the end of his book, Hayes identifies pockets of resistance to the attention economy in grassroots movements that reclaim individual and collective forms of attention. The Friends of Attention, whose ideas Hayes cites, calls in a manifesto for the emancipation of attention, which “must be sustained to the point of what appears like excess in any given situation.”

Beyond small-scale resistance, larger policy shifts and corporate reforms could recalibrate the relationship between technology platforms and their users. Tim Wu, for instance, has proposed restructuring social media giants like Facebook (now calling itself Meta) into public benefit corporations—a shift that would require these companies to prioritize social good alongside profit. James Williams has also advocated for structural interventions that reshape the incentives driving technology design, including redefining the purpose of digital advertising, embedding ethical considerations into the design process from the outset, and creating mechanisms for transparency and accountability that ensure platforms better align with users’ interests—not just their vulnerabilities.

Despite being short on policy prescriptions, The Sirens’ Call reminds readers that the reclamation of attention is both a paramount personal challenge—one that calls us to inhabit moments more fully and resist the pull of fragmentation—and an essential societal endeavor. This book deserves yours.

  • Jim Acosta leaving CNN after being pulled from network’s programming schedule: report

CNN anchor Jim Acosta is reportedly leaving the network after he was officially pulled from its programming schedule.

The Status newsletter reported Monday that Acosta was expected to leave CNN after it was announced last week that his 10 a.m. ET program was being replaced with “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer and Pamela Brown” in the network’s latest reshuffling.

The newsletter previously reported that Acosta was pitched by CNN CEO Mark Thompson to move him from his one-hour slot at 10 a.m. ET to a two-hour slot beginning at midnight, a far less distinguished place in the lineup.

One CNN insider told Fox News Digital they heard Acosta “struggled with the choice” and may be cutting his contract short as a result.

“It takes courage,” the CNN insider said.

    CNN declined to comment.

Acosta became more widely known as CNN’s chief White House correspondent for his antagonistic relationship with President Donald Trump and his aides during the first Trump administration. After the 2020 election, Acosta’s status at CNN was shifted to chief domestic correspondent, anchoring a show on the weekends but eventually moving his way to weekday programming.

While CNN’s past leadership reveled in Acosta’s constant sparring matches with the first Trump administration, the network’s current leadership appears to be trying to appear more neutral for the second go-around.

Acosta first joined CNN in 2007, where he covered political campaigns and eventually the Obama and Trump White Houses. He quickly became notorious for shouting questions at Trump’s White House press secretaries and frequently going toe-to-toe with the president himself, developing a reputation for grandstanding and receiving a profile boost by Trump after being called “fake news.”

Acosta famously refused to give up the microphone in a 2018 press conference as he engaged in a contentious back-and-forth with Trump. The White House attempted to revoke Acosta’s press pass following the dust-up, but his credentials were restored when CNN argued that it violated the First and Fifth Amendment rights of Acosta and the network.

Acosta’s adversarial relationship with the first Trump administration appeared to be lucrative as he landed himself a book deal and became a frequent guest on liberal late-night shows, further fueling the star power that landed him an anchor chair during the Biden presidency. He recently told viewers the press is “not the enemy of the people” in a shot at Trump.

CNN reporter Jim Acosta is reportedly leaving the network after being pulled from the programming schedule. According to sources, Acosta’s departure comes after a series of clashes with network executives over his outspoken and confrontational reporting style.

Acosta, who has been with CNN for several years, gained national attention for his tough questioning of President Trump and his administration. However, his aggressive approach has also drawn criticism from some viewers and colleagues who feel he has crossed the line into bias and sensationalism.

While the exact reasons for Acosta’s departure are still unclear, it is rumored that tensions between the reporter and CNN management have been brewing for some time. Acosta’s absence from the network’s programming schedule has raised speculation about his future in journalism and whether he will resurface at another news outlet.

As news of Acosta’s departure spreads, many are left wondering what this means for the future of CNN and the role of journalists in today’s media landscape. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.

  • Oklahoma Sen. Regina Goodwin pulled over by Tulsa County deputy

Oklahoma State Senator Regina Goodwin got pulled over on a traffic stop by a Tulsa County Deputy.

Body camera footage of the stop shows Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols showed up after the citation was already issued. Goodwin’s attorney and a Tulsa City Councilor also showed up.

Why was Senator Regina Goodwin pulled over?

Body camera footage of the stop shows a Tulsa County deputy telling Senator Goodwin she ran two stop signs near the 200 block of East Archer Street.

The video shows Goodwin refused to provide her driver’s license, even after the deputy asked for it more than a dozen times.

It then shows the deputy handcuffing Goodwin and then putting her in his car.

Who was at the traffic stop?

The video shows her attorney, Mike Manning at the scene arriving after Goodwin was in custody.

In the video, Manning says, “I realize Senator Goodwin can be strong-headed at times, but don’t you think you can write her a citation?”

Tulsa City Councilor Laura Bellis is also seen on the body camera video at the scene and told News On 6 she was running an errand, and she saw Senator Goodwin, pulled over and stopped to make sure she was safe, as she would do that for anyone she knows.

Mayor Monroe Nichols says he was at city hall when a mutual friend told him Goodwin got pulled over down the street.

So he says he went over to check on his friend and arrived after she had been released.

“This is just someone who got pulled over who happens to be a state senator and a common friend that we have who happens to call her former colleague who is the mayor who was close enough and in the area to stop by who then had a very calm and fine exchange with sheriff’s deputies, and at the end of the day that’s all that happened,” said Mayor Nichols.

The body camera shows Nichols asking a deputy what happened after Goodwin was ticketed, and Nichols never mentions he’s the mayor of Tulsa.

Mayor Nichols, said, “You know, I don’t know, I mean maybe, maybe it’s not something that happens every day with the mayor, but before I was mayor I was always Monroe, and you know how you had a friend who could have been in a situation where maybe it’s good to have a friend there with you and that’s all that was.”

What was the conclusion of the traffic stop?

Senator Goodwin was let out of the deputy’s car, and the deputy took the handcuffs off Goodwin.

Goodwin was ticketed for failing to stop for a stop sign.

The deputy told Goodwin’s attorney he initially planned to give her a warning.

“I was just going to give her a verbal warning and tell her not to do that but her demeanor the way that she was, I can’t have that, okay? I’m the one in control of the traffic stop, not her. If I don’t allow other people to do that when I do a traffic stop, I’m not going to allow her either,” said the Deputy.

    Senator Goodwin’s Comments

“Let the courts handle it,” said Senator Goodwin

News On 6 reached out to her attorney, Mike Manning, but has not heard back.

Earlier today, Oklahoma State Senator Regina Goodwin was pulled over by a Tulsa County deputy for a routine traffic stop. Goodwin, who represents District 73 in the state legislature, was reportedly driving within the speed limit and following all traffic laws at the time of the stop.

Goodwin’s office has not released a statement regarding the incident, but sources close to the senator have indicated that she was cooperative with the deputy and was ultimately let go with just a warning.

This incident serves as a reminder that even public officials are not above the law and must adhere to the same rules and regulations as everyone else. It also highlights the importance of maintaining a respectful and cooperative attitude when interacting with law enforcement officers.

We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.

  • Horizon Chapter 2 Gets Hopeful Release Update From Star 6 Months After Kevin Costner’s Western Sequel Was Pulled From WB’s Calendar

Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 gets a hopeful release update from Isabelle Fuhrman. The sequel to Kevin Costner’s series of epic Western films was originally slated to release on August 16, 2024, before Warner Bros. pulled it from the release calendar. After debuting at the Venice International Film Festival, Horizon: Chapter 2‘s reviews have been largely negative, which does not bode well after the first movie’s poor box office performance and lackluster reception.

While speaking with ScreenRant about her new film Wish You Were Here, Fuhrman shared that she believes Horizon: Chapter 2 will be released soon. She clarified that she has not been told of a confirmed release date and that actors often are not told about such information in advance. Fuhrman also emphasized how meaningful it was to see Horizon: Chapter 2 at the Venice Film Festival alongside an audience and expressed her enthusiasm for the movie’s upcoming release. Check out her comments below:

I believe it’s coming pretty soon. I think they’re kind of massaging what’s going on with it, but I actually, as of now, haven’t heard anything. Actors are usually the last to know in these sorts of things. But I was really fortunate that we got to premiere it at Venice, and got to see it with an audience. And that was the first time I had seen the movie, and it was great. I’m really excited for people to see it, but this movie, to me, is so exciting that Wish You Were Here is coming out, because it is a film that I feel like we all put so much heart and passion into.

What This Means For Horizon: Chapter 2

It May Be Released In 2025

Even though Fuhrman does not have knowledge of a confirmed release date, her update is a hopeful one. Despite the movie’s three-hour runtime, Horizon: Chapter 1‘s ending is largely setup for the second installment of Costner’s Western franchise. The stories of Diamond Kittredge (Fuhrman), Hayes Ellison (Costner), and the rest of the characters still need to be continued and require a payoff that is yet to come but expected in Horizon: Chapter 2.

Horizon: An American Saga’s Timeline Explained

If you’re confused by Kevin Costner’s latest movie, we’ve outlined the Horizon: An American Saga timeline, including details on future installments.

Fuhrman’s update hopefully means that Horizon: Chapter 2 will be released in 2025. With the movie already being finished, if it does not release in 2025, this could jeopardize the franchise’s entire future after production began on Chapter 3 and with Chapter 4 being in development. As evidenced by Fuhrman’s enthusiastic comments, Costner is not the only one who values the franchise being released as theatrical films, but whether his vision of all four films releasing in theaters can be fulfilled remains uncertain.

Warner Bros. Should Release Horizon: Chapter 2 Sooner Rather Than Later

Isabelle Fuhrman as Diamond looking intently on a desert landscape in Horizon An American Saga

Fuhrman’s update is one of the best yet for the future of Horizon‘s story and characters. Warner Bros. is understandably cautious about the franchise after the first movie did not perform well at the box office. However, the second movie has already been made and has already been shown at the Venice Film Festival. Warner Bros. should release Horizon: Chapter 2 in 2025, see how it does, and then decide from there whether the franchise should continue. Shelving a movie that has already been made is a harmful practice and should not become commonplace.

What Horizon: Chapter 2’s Reviews Say About The Sequel

Issues From The First Movie Are Still Present

At the time that this article is being written, Horizon: Chapter 2 has a 40% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. This is based on 10 reviews following the debut at the Venice Film Festival. One of the overarching issues noted by critics is that Chapter 2 still feels just as episodic as its predecessor, making it feel more like a scattered telling of anecdotes instead of telling a cohesive story. Another issue that remains is the runtime, as the sequel is also over three hours long.

In addition to Kevin Costner and Isabelle Fuhrman, Horizon: Chapter 2‘s cast includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, and Danny Huston.

Costner has been adamant about the importance of theatrically released films, and yet many critics assert that both the first and second movie feel more like a television series. That being said, some of the reviews do express admiration for Chapter 2 and the ways it improves on Chapter 1. One of these improvements is providing opportunities to allow the audience to better know and understand the characters, which is made possible by the extensive runtime. Credit is also given to the cinematography, which does justice to the story’s setting and to the Western genre.

The general reception may be more positive, though, especially since Chapter 1 has a 70% Popcornmeter score while the Tomatometer score is 51%.

The reviews indicate that Chapter 2 may not win over those who were left underwhelmed even by Horizon: Chapter 1‘s best scenes. The general reception may be more positive, though, especially since Chapter 1 has a 70% Popcornmeter score while the Tomatometer score is 51%. 10 reviews is a small sampling and general audiences deserve the chance to see Horizon: Chapter 2 for themselves and to form their own opinion about whether Costner’s franchise should continue.
