The Los Angeles Lakers’ G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, have acquired the returning player rights to guard Quincy Olivari.
Olivari was previously on a two-way contract with the Lakers but got released as the team signed big man Trey Jemison III to a two-way deal. Many were sad to hear the news as Olivari had become a fan favorite thanks to a strong preseason performance that ultimately got him the two-way deal in the first place.
In re-signing with South Bay, Olivari now maintains a path that could see him eventually called up to the Lakers. But no longer on a two-way contract, he is free to sign with any team so it is very plausible that he could still wind up elsewhere if a team has interest and wants to bring him in.
That is undoubtedly a possibility as Olivari has impressed many, not only within the Lakers organization, but around the league as a whole. He had multiple strong preseason performances and even signed a brand deal with childhood hero Stephen Curry and Under Armour.
Olivari also has been one of the best players for the South Bay Lakers this season as well. In nine games during the G League Tip-Off Tournament he averaged 18.1 points and 4.1 assists while knocking down 40.8% from 3-point range. There is no doubt Olivari can shoot the ball and has plenty of potential so to see him back in South Bay is promising.
The young guard garnered plenty of praise from his Lakers teammates not only for his skills on the court, but also just the kind of person he is, the energy he brought every day, and the hard work he put in to improve his game. Hopefully he will get his chance to really impress in the league at some point and whether it is with the Lakers or somewhere else in the NBA, he will have put in all the necessary work.
Anthony Davis explains how Lakers can be better against good teams
The current Lakers are set to take on one of the NBA’s best teams, the always-hated Boston Celtics. The Lakers have had some struggles against many of the top teams in the league, and Anthony Davis opened up about how he feels the Lakers can improve against them.
“We just can’t make mistakes against those teams, or they’ll make us pay. They’ll capitalize on each possession,” Davis admitted. “So we can’t beat ourselves. And a lot of times, we beat ourselves. We get away with it against the bad teams. But teams like that, like the Boston Celtics, you make a mistake, and they are going to make you pay.”

The Los Angeles Lakers moved on from a rookie who had been putting up great numbers in the G League.
Per HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Lakers have waived guard Quincy Olivari, an undrafted rookie out of Xavier. Olivari is averaging 17.2 points, 4.4 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game for the South Bay Lakers and is expected to draw interest in free agency, according to Scotto.
NBA insiders Jake Fischer and Marc Stein confirmed the report, adding that the Lakers intend to sign Trey Jemison to their open two-way roster spot.

The Los Angeles Lakers are planning to sign former Pelicans center Trey Jemison on a two-way NBA contract and waiving Quincy Olivari, sources tell ESPN. Jemison adds some frontcourt physicality for Lakers. He has averaged 5.1 points and 4.3 rebounds across 41 career NBA games.
Olivari excelled at the collegiate level, first for Rice and then for Xavier a season ago. In his final season with the Musketeers, Olivari put up 19.1 points and 5.6 boards while shooting 40.9 percent from deep.
Despite outstanding collegiate numbers, Olivari didn’t get much interest in the draft, likely because of his age, 23.
Still, he has made the most of his time in the G League, displaying his skills night in and night out, especially from deep where he is shooting 40.6 percent. His play in the G League even drew attention from former Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell, who said he “looked like he was too good” to be in the G League.
“I just told him to stay humble,” Russell said in November, per Lakers Nation’s Ron Gutterman. “It honestly looked like he was too good for being out there, respectfully. But I know how that can get you high and then have a bad game and it gets you lower; that’s just what it is.”
Olivari appeared in just two games in the NBA before being waived, logging eight total minutes and three points. He’ll now look to sign with a new squad, and it seems like he could have plenty of options.
The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly waived guard Quincy Olivari, making him a free agent ahead of the upcoming NBA free agency period. Olivari, who went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft, showed promise during his time with the Lakers’ summer league team, but ultimately did not do enough to secure a spot on the roster.Despite being waived by the Lakers, Olivari is expected to draw interest from several teams around the league. The young point guard has impressed scouts with his scoring ability, playmaking skills, and defensive prowess, making him an intriguing prospect for teams in need of backcourt depth.
Olivari will now have the opportunity to showcase his talents in front of other NBA teams as he looks to secure a spot on a roster for the upcoming season. With his skill set and potential, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Olivari land a contract with a team looking to add a young, promising guard to their roster.
Stay tuned for more updates on Quincy Olivari’s free agency journey and where he ultimately lands for the upcoming NBA season. For more news, scores, highlights, stats, and rumors, be sure to keep up with all the latest NBA action.
