Kenny Atkinson’s quote resurfaces in the wake of another LaMelo Ball injury
LaMelo Ball is once again dealing with an ankle injury, something that has been said of the Charlotte Hornets guard plenty of times since he was drafted. He stepped on Jarred Vanderbilt’s foot while backpedaling to get back on defense on Monday night and had to leave the contest immediately.
It reminded former NBA guard Jeff Teague of a conversation he had with Kenny Atkinson. The current Cleveland Cavaliers coach had accepted the Hornets job before backing out of it, sending the Hornets spiraling into a second Steve Clifford era. Atkinson is now the frontrunner for Coach of the Year with the NBA-leading Cleveland Cavaliers.
Jeff Teague recalls a conversation he had with Kenny Atkinson about LaMelo Ball before he was offered the job in Charlotte:
“He’s unbelievable, he’s so talented. I would love to work with him. I just don’t know how healthy he’s gonna be.” pic.twitter.com/uXBUH0ncQU
— Israel (@iohandles) January 28, 2025
When he was linked to the Hornets, Teague said that Atkinson was highly complimentary of Ball. “He’s injury prone… he’s talented, he’s unbelievable, he’s so talented. I would love to work with him,” Atkinson said per Teague. “I just don’t know how healthy he’s going to be.”
Ball has crossed the 40-game threshold just once in his career. With a new ankle injury occurring, it’s not clear if he’ll cross it this season. The Hornets immediately ruled him out Monday evening and didn’t waste time listing him as questionable for tonight’s matchup with the Brooklyn Nets.

Mandatory Credit: Scott Kinser-Imagn Images / Scott Kinser-Imagn Images The silver lining is that it’s a different ankle than last year. He sprained his left ankle this time, but he had surgery on his right ankle last year. There’s some cautious optimism that the injury isn’t as bad as it could be, but it’s yet again an ankle injury that is going to cost Ball at least some playing time if not a lot.
There’s still no clear reason Atkinson decided to turn the Hornets down, but he did express some concern about Ball’s health even then. It’s an issue that has plagued the guard ever since, and it doesn’t look like there’s much relief on the horizon.

In the wake of another injury to LaMelo Ball, a quote from former Brooklyn Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson has resurfaced, shedding light on the importance of patience and development in young players.Atkinson, who coached Ball’s older brother Lonzo during his time with the Nets, once said, “It’s a process. The NBA is a tough league, and it takes time for young players to adjust and find their footing.”
This quote serves as a reminder that injuries are a part of the game and that young players like LaMelo Ball need time to grow and develop both physically and mentally. While injuries can be frustrating and setbacks, they are also opportunities for players to learn and come back stronger.
As LaMelo Ball continues his road to recovery, fans and analysts alike can reflect on Atkinson’s words and understand that patience and perseverance are key elements in a player’s journey to success in the NBA.

Captain America: Brave New World
Ahead of the release of Captain America: Brave New World, star Anthony Mackie went viral with his take on what Captain America represents. And that’s not necessarily just America. The quote was widely shared and required follow-up clarification from the actor. But it feels like Mackie is being unfairly targeted given that the last actor to have that role, Chris Evans said something nearly identical when he took the part. And so has Captain American in the actual comics.
Here’s Mackie’s original quote:
“Captain America represents a lot of different things and I don’t think the term ‘America’ should be one of those representations. It’s about a man who keeps his word, who has honor, dignity and integrity.”
Then, later he followed up with another comment on Instagram:
“I’m a proud American and taking on the shield of a hero like Cap is the honor of a lifetime. I have the utmost respect for those who serve and have served our country. Cap has universal characteristics that people all over the world can relate to.”
Chris Evans as Captain America
If this is a “controversy,” then you have to wonder why Chris Evans didn’t get the same level of flak for his quote about playing the character. Here’s him speaking with CBM back in 2011 ahead of the first film in the series, The First Avenger:
“Ha, well, to me, I’m not trying to get too lost in the American side of it. This isn’t a flag waving movie. It is red, white and blue, but it just so happens that the character was created in America during war time, when there was a common enemy, even though it is Captain America. I’ve said before in interviews, it feels more like he should just be called Captain Good. [Laughs] You know, he was created at a time when there was this undeniable evil and this guy was kind of created to fight that evil. I think that everyone could agree that Nazis were bad and he, Cap, just so happens to wear the red, white and blue.”
Going further back, this has often been portrayed significantly more pointedly by Captain America in the comics themselves. One such example from an issue:
“Listen to me, all of you out there! You were told by this man, your hero, that America is the greatest country in the world! He told you that Americans were the greatest people, that America could be refined like silver, could have the impurities hammered out of it and shine more brightly. He went on about how precious American was, how you needed to make sure it remained great. And he told you anything was justified to preserve that pearl of the great price that is America!”
“Well I say American is nothing! Without its ideals, its commitment to the freedom of all men, America is a piece of trash! A nation is nothing! A flag is a piece of cloth! I fought Adolph Hitler not because America was great, because it was fragile! I k new that liberty could be easily snuffed out here as in Nazi Germany! As a people we were no different than them! When I returned, I saw that you nearly did turn America into nothing!”
Imagine if Anthony Mackie said that. All Mackie is doing is reiterating a common sentiment about the character, and if the takeaway from people’s perception of Captain America is that he’s a mindless soldier fighting for the US to spread freedom everywhere, you don’t know the characters very well (maybe go watch The Winter Soldier again, for starters?). Mackie has many challenges ahead taking up this mantle, but this fake controversy should not be one of them.

Anthony Mackie’s recent statement about his character becoming Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has sparked controversy among fans. In an interview with Variety, Mackie said, “The idea of being a Black man and becoming Captain America is an amazing opportunity. But it comes with a lot of weight.” This statement mirrors what Chris Evans, who portrayed Steve Rogers/Captain America in the MCU, has said in the past about the character. In the comics, Steve Rogers passed on the mantle of Captain America to Sam Wilson, played by Mackie in the movies. This storyline has been met with mixed reactions from fans, with some praising the decision to have a Black actor take on the iconic role, while others expressing concern over the implications of the character’s race change.
Mackie’s comments about the weight of becoming Captain America highlight the social and cultural significance of the character, especially when portrayed by a Black actor. It is a reminder that representation matters in media, and that the roles we see on screen can have a powerful impact on how we view ourselves and others.
As the MCU continues to expand and evolve, it will be interesting to see how the character of Captain America develops under Mackie’s portrayal and how it reflects the changing social landscape of our world.

Draymond Green Tweets ‘I Really Am Sorry’ to Jordan Poole Quote on ‘Love,’ Warriors | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Ezra Shaw/Getty Images
Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green once again expressed regret after former teammate Jordan Poole may have referenced some lingering bad blood between them.
After the Washington Wizards lost 122-114 to the Warriors on Saturday night, Poole reflected in the locker room that “I love those guys over there” before adding “I love most of those guys over there.” Some read the clarification as a dig at Green.
The four-time All-Star saw the quote relayed by Andscape’s Marc J. Spears and replied, “I really am sorry.”
Green famously punched Poole during a team practice in October 2022, a moment that lingered throughout the 2022-23 season. Poole was traded to the Wizards in July 2023 as part of the deal that brought veteran guard Chris Paul to the Bay Area.
Green discussed the incident on Penny Hardaway’s Two Cents Podcast and called it “one of my biggest failures as a vet” (via Andy Lindquist of NBC Sports Bay Area).
“It took me to go through that failure with Jordan Poole, who was someone that came in and chose his locker to be next to me because he wanted to learn from me,” he said. “[He] was someone that I would spend time with and that I would pour into, and I [f–ked] it all up.”
Green drew an indefinite suspension from the NBA midway through last season after striking Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkić in the face during a game. As part of the suspension, the four-time NBA champion had to attend league-mandated therapy sessions.
ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk profiled Green earlier this month and detailed how much he evolved thanks to therapy and check-ins with NBA officials.
Travis Walton, a friend of Green’s dating back to college, said he has witnessed “a nicer Draymond” in the months since.
“He’s more intentional,” Walton said to Youngmisuk. “He’s more softer with things. Maybe when he’s ready to erupt [in a training session], he’s like, ‘Let me look at it from a different perspective,’ [where] the old Draymond would’ve went off. The old Draymond would’ve had a lot more to say than the Draymond right now.”
Green can’t roll back the clock and make it so that the altercation with Poole never happened. But he’s clearly contrite about the situation, so perhaps he and Poole can squash any remaining beef.
In a surprising turn of events, Draymond Green took to Twitter to apologize to his teammate Jordan Poole with a heartfelt message. The tweet read, “I really am sorry. Let’s focus on love and getting better together.” This unexpected gesture has left fans speculating about the nature of their conflict and the potential impact on the Warriors’ chemistry. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story. #Warriors #DraymondGreen #JordanPoole #Apology #Love

Justin Bieber celebrated Martin Luther King Day with a poignant quote from the late Civil Rights activist.
This year, MLK Day, which always falls on the third Monday in January, coincided with the second inauguration of Donald Trump held on January 20.
In honor of the federal holiday, intended to honor the life and legacy of the former minister, the 30-year-old pop star and new father shared an image of Dr. King on Instagram.
“Hate can’t drive out hate only love can do that,” Bieber wrote in the caption. “Love you happy MLK DAY.”
The Grammy-winning singer’s message was met with an outpouring of support in the comments below, with one user responding: “YES it’s MLK day and not trump TELL EM.”
“Only man worth celebrating today,” a second declared.

A third replied with another famous King Jr. quote: “Injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere.”
King Jr., the leader of the American civil rights movement who died in 1968, is celebrated every year for organizing countless peaceful protests, including the famous March on Washington, throughout his life in the fight for racial equality and the end of segregation.
The first official Martin Luther King Day took place in 1986, three years after President Ronald Reagan signed a bill into law that established his birthday as a federal holiday.
Meanwhile, Inauguration Day was initially held on March 4, when incoming presidents, vice presidents, and members of Congress were sworn into office.
However, in 1933, the 20th Amendment was ratified, moving Inauguration Day up to January 20. Since then, each President-elect has taken the presidential oath of office every four years, whether it’s their first or second term.
During Trump’s inauguration, he addressed the nation claiming that a new “golden age of America” had begun.
Standing behind a lectern adorned by the presidential seal, Trump said his return to the White House would ensure that America would “not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer.”
“Our sovereignty will be reclaimed. Our safety will be restored. The scales of justice will be rebalanced. The vicious, violent and unfair weaponization of the Justice Department and our government will end and our top priority will be to create a nation that is proud, prosperous and free,” he promised.
Just two hours after being sworn in, the president has begun signing more than 200 executive orders — a record — covering everything from border security and energy to ending birthright citizenship and renaming the Gulf of Mexico.
Justin Bieber took to social media today to share a poignant quote from civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr amid Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 45th President of the United States. The quote reads: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
In a time of political division and uncertainty, Bieber’s choice to share this message of love and unity is a powerful reminder of the importance of coming together as a nation. As the world watches the transition of power in the United States, it is crucial to remember the values of peace, equality, and justice that Martin Luther King Jr fought for.
Bieber’s post has already garnered thousands of likes and shares, with fans and followers expressing their appreciation for his message of hope and positivity. As we navigate the challenges and changes that lie ahead, let us all take inspiration from the words of Martin Luther King Jr and strive to be beacons of light and love in a world that sometimes feels dark.
