LANSING, Mich. — Michigan Sen. Gary Peters says he won’t be seeking a third term in 2026.
The surprise decision Tuesday again complicates for Democrats in Michigan, who will be forced to defend an open seat in the battleground state for the second straight election cycle. Peters led the Democrats’ Senate campaign efforts from 2021 to 2025 and helped the party hold control of the chamber in 2022 before Republicans flipped it last year.
Among the top names expected to circulate to replace Peters is former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who moved to Michigan in recent years. The race is expected to be among the most competitive in the country with control of the chamber again up from grabs in 2026.
The Detroit News first reported Peters’ decision.
Michigan Sen. Gary Peters announced today that he will not seek reelection in 2026, opening up a key U.S. Senate race in the state. Peters, a Democrat, has served in the Senate since 2015 and previously served in the House of Representatives.
His decision not to seek another term has already sparked speculation about who will run to replace him. Michigan is a crucial swing state, and the outcome of the Senate race in 2026 could have significant implications for national politics.
Peters cited a desire to spend more time with his family and pursue new opportunities as reasons for his decision not to run again. He thanked his constituents for their support and pledged to continue working on behalf of Michigan during the remainder of his term.
The race to replace Peters is expected to be hotly contested, with both Democrats and Republicans likely to field strong candidates. The outcome will be closely watched as both parties vie for control of the Senate in the next election cycle.
Stay tuned for updates on the Michigan Senate race as potential candidates begin to emerge and the campaign heats up.

Ferrari have shown off their race suits for the 2025 Formula 1 season, with new team mates Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc combining in a special promotional video.
It comes just a few days after Hamilton’s first appearance as a Ferrari driver at Maranello and his first outing in one of the team’s cars at Fiorano – marking the start of a new era for the seven-time World Champion.
Alongside a packed “immersion programme” that spanned meeting employees, touring factory buildings and spending time in the simulator, Hamilton completed his first marketing duties for the famous marque last week.
Exciting news for all Formula 1 fans as Ferrari’s new dynamic duo, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, have teamed up to reveal the stunning race suits for the 2025 season. Ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s first season with Ferrari, fans have been reminded of his debut F1 campaign, when he signed for McLaren.
In a sensational move, Lewis Hamilton joined Ferrari in 2025 on a multi-year contract worth more than 40 million Pounds per year. The British driver replaced Carlos Sainz Jr. and will partner Charles Leclerc this season.

Ahead of his first season with Ferrari, fans have been reminded of his debut F1 campaign, when he signed for McLaren. According to reports, he was testing the McLaren MP4-22 in Valencia ahead of his debut, and he lost control of the car on the pit, while travelling at a speed of up to 185mph. There is no video of the accident but reports state that Hamilton spun backwards through a gravel trap and crashed into a tyre wall.
‘Not repairable’ accident
The crash took place just 10 days after the MP4-22 was unveiled to the public. Meanwhile, a Ferrari spokesperson had said, “Lewis was unhurt but the MP4-22 will not be repairable in Valencia. The cause of the accident is being investigated.”
Meanwhile, Hamilton said, “Unfortunately, these things happen in the sport. I am completely fine and I’m looking forward to getting back to testing next week.
When he signed for McLaren in 2007, he was the first black driver to compete in Formula One at the Australian Grand Prix. In his debut season, he won four races and also set multiple records. He got his maiden title in 2008, and then signed for Mercedes in 2013.
There has been no such accidents during his practice with Ferrari, and he will get his new season underway at the Australian Grand Prix in mid-March.
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari also took everyone by surprise, and it is also the first time in his career, that he won’t drive for a Mercedes-powered team. He ended last season with a career-lowest seventh position in the standings, 22 points behind teammate Russell. His departure also ended the most successful driver-constructor partnership in F1 history.

As Formula 1 fans eagerly await Lewis Hamilton’s debut race with Ferrari, a spine-chilling reminder of his past test crash has resurfaced.
Back in 2004, Hamilton was just a young driver testing for McLaren when he suffered a terrifying crash at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. The impact was so severe that his car was completely destroyed, leaving fans and fellow drivers holding their breath.
Fortunately, Hamilton walked away from the crash with only minor injuries, but the incident served as a stark reminder of the dangers that come with racing at such high speeds.
As Hamilton prepares to make his debut with Ferrari, fans are once again reminded of the risks involved in this adrenaline-fueled sport. The seven-time world champion has proven time and time again that he is a fearless competitor, but this crash serves as a sobering reminder of the fragility of life on the track.
As fans gear up to watch Hamilton take on this new challenge with Ferrari, they are sure to have this spine-chilling crash in the back of their minds. But one thing is for certain – Hamilton’s determination and skill will continue to captivate audiences around the world, no matter what challenges come his way.

No pressure, Renee Slegers, but any hope of slowing down Chelsea in their pursuit of a sixth consecutive Women’s Super League (WSL) title rests squarely on your shoulders.
It’s only Matchday 12 of the 2024-25 season, yet it feels as though the race is already at a critical tipping point. The Blues have surged ahead, leaving the rest of the league trailing in their wake, and they now sit a commanding seven points clear of Arsenal in second.
If Arsenal lose to Chelsea on Sunday (7:30 a.m. ET. Stream live on ESPN+, U.S. only) that would stretch the gap to 10 points, and with just over half of the games played, that could prove insurmountable. Given Chelsea’s near-perfect form — they’ve dropped points only once in a 1-1 draw with Leicester City — the chances of them losing more than two games to give Arsenal a shot at closing the gap seem slim.
All eyes will be on Stamford Bridge, where the two powerhouses are set to clash in what promises to be a decisive moment. For Arsenal, the stakes couldn’t be higher. This match will decide the trajectory of their title challenge. For Chelsea, it could cement a potentially historic campaign.
Realistically, it can only be Arsenal
Manchester City‘s hopes of retaining a serious claim to the title have taken a heavy blow following their 4-2 defeat to Manchester United, leaving them two points behind their local rivals and Arsenal, both now tied on 24 points. With a mounting injury crisis further complicating matters, City now face the daunting task of hosting Arsenal on Feb. 2 — raising the stakes for the Gunners, who will be under pressure to extend their unbeaten streak.
Arsenal’s fortunes have been transformed since Slegers took charge in October following Jonas Eidevall’s resignation. In her interim spell, she led the team to an unbeaten run of 11 games across all competitions, and extended that to 12 with a commanding 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace in her first match as permanent manager. The momentum is certainly with Arsenal, but they’re not alone in the race.
While Arsenal remain the only team capable of realistically challenging Chelsea for the title, United are right in the mix, yet their inconsistency remains a serious concern. Despite being level with Arsenal, Marc Skinner’s side face a brutal end to the season, with tough fixtures against their closest rivals. While all other top three contenders face each other in the coming months — City host Chelsea on March 23 — United need to wait until the final stretch of the season.
United’s fate could be sealed by May, with matches against Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal all scheduled for their final run-in. Dropping points before those crucial games could be fatal to their title hopes, leaving them with no margin for error.
The Manchester clubs’ chances of closing the gap on Chelsea depend on Arsenal handing the Blues their first loss of the season, making the Gunners the only real team in a position to derail Chelsea’s momentum.
Arsenal’s defence can counter Chelsea’s attack
Arsenal’s struggles in recent visits to Chelsea are well-documented: they’ve failed to win any of their last five away WSL encounters, with their best result being a draw since their commanding 5-0 victory at Kingsmeadow in October 2018 under Joe Montemurro. It’s been nearly seven years since Arsenal last secured a win on Chelsea’s turf, but this time, the circumstances feel different.
“We are rivals, it’s a London derby. I think everyone involved, you can just feel it inside you,” Chelsea forward Guro Reiten told ESPN. “There’s something special about those games. It’s the games you love to win and hate to lose. And there’s been some crazy games between us the last few years. You never know what to expect.”
Both teams come into the match in good form. Chelsea remain unbeaten all season, while Arsenal have strung together that impressive 12-game unbeaten run of their own. Statistically, the Blues have dominated the offensive side, leading the league in goals scored (36), shots (220) and expected goals (25.3). Arsenal, however, have proven themselves a rock-solid defensive unit, ranking first for shots faced (81), expected goals against (6.7) and clean sheets (8). This clash is shaping up to be a true battle of dominance.
Arsenal defender Emily Fox has made it clear that Arsenal’s defensive game will be key if they hope to thwart Chelsea’s relentless attacking threats.
“Without a doubt, defensively, I need to be on top of it, whether it’s with my one-vs.-ones, or with set pieces, corners, crosses and second balls in the box,” she told ESPN. “So I think really just being on top of it.
“I feel like with Chelsea they can finish off of anything and kind of create something out of nothing. And so with that, just defensively being locked in all the time.”
Chelsea’s Reiten added: “We love playing Arsenal so it’s going to be a tough one. They have an unbelievable squad and have been very good recently, so it’s going to be challenging.”
She added that Bompastor has structured the squad to maintain focus on each upcoming match. “Every game is important though; you’ve got to prepare for every game the same. It doesn’t matter who you’re meeting,” Reiten told ESPN, emphasising that the team’s drive to win has been the key to their successful run.
“I’m not laughing or being funny [on the pitch], I want to win and I don’t care who is on that pitch. I want to win. I think every single one is like that.
“There’re going to be moments where you struggle, and you’re not playing as well as you want to, but you want to get it over the line. You need those three points and then we can work on how to improve the performance after. I think that’s been so special about us in the first half of the season; we’ve kept moving and kept moving.”
But the pressure is on Arsenal to deliver. To stand a chance of handing Chelsea their first loss of the season, they will need to be at their best, defensively and offensively. A win could be the catalyst to put real pressure on the Blues, perhaps even shaking their pursuit of a historic campaign and derailing their quest for an unbeaten season.
Girma will make Chelsea even stronger
The Blues are on track to smash the league’s points record following an impressive 31 points from a possible 33 at the season’s halfway mark. To equal the league’s record of 58 points, Chelsea will need to secure victories in nine of their remaining 11 games — no easy feat, but with their form this dominant, it’s well within their grasp.
Under former manager Emma Hayes, Chelsea went unbeaten throughout the 2017-18 WSL season, clinching the title in dominant fashion. Now, under new manager Sonia Bompastor, Chelsea have yet to taste defeat, not just in the WSL but across all competitions. It’s a remarkable streak for any team, especially in such a competitive league.
To put it in perspective, Arsenal’s historic unbeaten run in the 2006-07 season, when they achieved an unprecedented quadruple, stands as one of the finest accomplishments in domestic football. Playing 44 matches, they racked up 42 wins and two draws, a feat that now seems almost mythical.
For Bompastor to match or even surpass this achievement with Chelsea would be nothing short of extraordinary. It would require winning the elusive Champions League — a title Bompastor has already conquered both as a player and coach with Lyon. It’s the one prize that’s eluded Chelsea despite their domestic dominance. Add to that the League Cup and FA Cup, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.
While Chelsea did complete a domestic treble in 2021-22, recent seasons have seen them struggle to reap success in the league, in Europe and in the cups simultaneously.
The level of competition has soared since Arsenal’s 2007 triumph, when they won the inaugural Champions League (then called the UEFA Women’s Cup.) The game is now fully professional for these clubs, and the level of competition has skyrocketed. Going unbeaten in a league in the modern game is almost unheard of; doing it across four trophy campaigns is near impossible with the growth of the women’s game.
But Chelsea’s chances of a complete sweep may be slightly more plausible with the expected signing of Naomi Girma, the United States‘ premier defender, from San Diego Wave FC. ESPN first reported Chelsea’s interest in the 24-year-old last week, and the central defender is set to become the first $1 million signing in the coming days.
Girma is a rare talent, and her arrival at Chelsea is a game-changer. With her exceptional skill, being calm under pressure and natural leadership, she will seamlessly strengthen a defence already brimming with world-class talent. As Chelsea target the final stages of the four trophies they’re chasing, her presence adds a crucial layer of stability and quality. But her signature will come too late to feature on Sunday.
Arsenal must win this crucial clash — and then secure victory over Man City a week later — to keep the pressure on in the title race, but it will be Slegers’ biggest test yet. With Chelsea’s dominance showing no signs of slowing down, Arsenal’s ability to deliver in this defining moment could determine the course of the season.
If the Gunners fail to rise to the occasion, the question looms: is there anyone capable of stopping this ever-growing, near-impervious Chelsea?
As the Women’s Super League title race heats up, all eyes will be on the upcoming clash between Arsenal and Chelsea. Arsenal, currently sitting in second place behind Chelsea, will be looking to secure a crucial victory and close the gap at the top of the table.
With both teams boasting a strong lineup of talented players, this match promises to be a thrilling showdown between two of the top teams in the WSL. Arsenal will be counting on the likes of Vivianne Miedema, Kim Little, and Leah Williamson to lead the charge and secure a vital win.
Can Arsenal beat Chelsea and turn the tide in the WSL title race? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – this match is sure to be one for the books. Don’t miss out on all the action as these two powerhouse teams battle it out for supremacy in the Women’s Super League.

The first big racing day of 2025 is Saturday, Jan. 25 and features the $3 million Pegasus World CupInvitational at Gulfstream Park. South Florida’s leading luxury sports and lifestyle event of the year has helped energize and modernize the sport of horse racing for a new generation of fans. Now in it’s ninth year, the Pegasus World Cup sets the stage with track announcer Pete Aiello calling the race for NBC Sports. Coverage of the two biggest races on NBC including the Pegasus World Cup Turf starts at 4:30 p.m. ET for races 12 and 13, and the broadcast will also stream live on Peacock.
Both Grade 1 races are for older horses at 1 1/8 miles, and Pegasus World Cup day features seven graded stakes on the 13 race card as the biggest racing day of the Gulfstream Park Championship Meet ahead of the March 29 Florida Derby.
Pegasus World Cup Invitational Field and Odds
With pari-mutuel wagering, the odds are not fixed and rather are determined by the amount bet on each number and horse. The opening odds change on race day as bets are placed, so there is an opportunity to leverage your opinion against the odds.
The FanDuelTV Network will also broadcast all the Pegasus World Cup day races with sister channel FanDuel Racing providing coverage from other race tracks plus a collection of promotions, tips and helpful content and picks through FanDuel Research. The list of Pegasus World Cup winners shows more favorites crossing the finish line first, but 2023 saw longshot Art Collector payoff more for bettors as the oldest horse (age 6) to win the race.

2023 – Art Collector (15/1)

Race 13 – $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational
Locked (5/2)
Saudi Crown (9/2)
Skippylongstocking (10/1)
White Abarrio (3/1)
Locked (5/2) raced just two times last year for trainer Todd Pletcher, and won the Cigar Mile (G2) at Aqueduct in December. Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez rides the son of the great Gun Runner and brother of Sierra Leone, both Breeders’ Cup Classic champions. Locked was the race favorite and posted his fastest-ever speed figure in the Cigar Mile. He was injured last year which kept him off the Kentucky Derby Trail, and handicappers and race analysts love this horses talent, but not the far outside draw with the short run to the first turn.
The front-running galloping gray Saudi Crown (9/2) failed to fire in last Nov. Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, but he won races on either side of the BC race. At his best, trainer Brad Cox likes his chances, as he won two of his first four graded stakes starts with a pair of runner-up finishes as well.
White Abarrio (3/1) is another gray horse to watch who won the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Clasic. He’s back in the care of original trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. with top jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding. “His wins in the 2023 Whitney Stakes and Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic tower over the best efforts from most of the other Pegasus contenders,” America’s Best Racing notes, and “he showed tantalizing glimpses of returning to that level in his two lead-in races to Saturday’s Pegasus.”
Pletcher’s other runner in the Pegasus World Cup is Crupi (15/1), a son of the great Curlin who finished 3rd in this race last year but has won just 1-of-6 starts since. He’s a one-dimensional closer who may not get the needed speed on the lead to catch the top runners down the stretch.
Stronghold (10/1) ships in from California having won last year’s Santa Anita Derby (G1) at this same 1 1/8 mile distance. ABR says he’s “an intriguing longshot in the Pegasus as he’s only finished worse than second once in 10 starts.”
Mystik Dan (8/1) won last year’s Kentucky Derby as a 18/1 longshot, but has not won since in three starts with a best 2nd place finish in the Preakness.
Skippylongstocking (10/1) is clearly capable of contending and hitting the board running around two turns at his preferred distance for trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. He’s won 5 times with four other in the money finishes in 13 starts at the distance, but not last year’s Pegasus when he pulled up and did not finish the race.
Race 12 – $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf
Nations Pride (2/1)
Integration (3/1)
Major Dude (6/1)
Win for the Money (12/1)
The Pegasus World Cup Turf includes 3-time North America Grade 1 winner Nations Pride (2/1) as the favorite and clear win contender. He won last summer’s Arlington Million for trainer Charlie Appleby, beating runner-up Integration (3/1), who finished 5th in this race last year as the favoritef for trainer Shug McGaughey. Longshot Battle of Normandy (20/1) is also entered for McGaughey with four straight wins (one graded stakes).
Major Dude (6/1) won the Grade 2 Fort Lauderdale last out in December for his 7th win in 18 starts while posting his fastest-ever speed figure in a tight finish. He’s 2-for-2 in graded stakes starts at Gulfstream for trainer Todd Pletcher, who has jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding again.
Win for the Money (12/1) is a live longshot, according to America’s Best Racing. He won last year’s Woodbine Mile and was part of a recent three-way win photo in the Ft. Lauderdale, winding up third after chasing the pace.
Gulfstream Track Announcer
In the Sport of Kings, races aren’t made just by the animals that run them, but by the voices that call them. One of the very best track announcers is Pete Aiello – a favorite at Gulfstream Park. I met Pete at the 2023 Breeders Cup World Championships at Santa Anita. The South Florida native called a few Breeders’ Cup races that day, and he’ll be back home at Gulfstream providing fans a great racing experience calling the Pegasus World Cup Day races.

The Todd Pletcher-trained Locked will look to become horse racing’s newest millionaire on Saturday when he leaves the starting gate in one of North America’s richest races, the 2025 Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park outside of Miami. A 4-year-old son of Gun Runner, Locked has earned $935,650 in his career. The Pegasus World Cup, which has a purse of $3 million, is the fourth-richest race in North America, behind only the Kentucky Derby, Breeders’ Cup Classic and Breeders’ Cup Turf. Locked has been installed as the lukewarm 5-2 morning-line favorite in the 2025 Pegasus World Cup odds. White Abarrio (3-1), Saudi Crown (9-2) and 2024 Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan (8-1) round out the top-four choices among the 12 Pegasus World Cup horses. Post time is 5:40 p.m. ET. The latest 2025 Pegasus World Cup forecast is calling for sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-60s.
With several of the country’s best dirt horses set to enter the starting gate on Saturday, you’ll want to see what racing reporter and insider Michelle Yu has to say before making any 2025 Pegasus World Cup picks, given that she correctly picked the winner of last year’s Pegasus World Cup.
Few people in racing are as well-connected as Yu. An on-air host and reporter who has provided racing analysis for TVG, HRTV and the Breeders’ Cup, Yu has spent a lifetime in racing. Prior to her television career, she worked for trainers Steve Asmussen and Ron Moquett. She also is married to Santa Anita-based trainer Ryan Hanson.
Yu also has tremendous handicapping chops. In a wide-open Kentucky Derby in 2021, she gave out Medina Spirit, who crossed the finish line first, as the winner at 12-1. In Pool 5 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager three years ago, she suggested a play on All Other 3-Year-Olds, which cashed at a whopping 18-1 when Rich Strike won the Derby.
Last year she correctly called National Treasure to win the Pegasus World Cup, predicted Stronghold’s upset win in the Santa Anita Derby and smashed the exacta in the Apple Blossom Handicap. On the Belmont Stakes undercard, she nailed National Treasure’s win in the Met Mile and had the winner and exacta in the Woody Stephens Stakes. She closed out the year by hitting the exacta in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Anyone who has followed her is way up.
For the 2025 Pegasus World Cup, Yu has made her picks and constructed her bets
One surprise: Yu is completely fading Locked, even though he is the 5-2 favorite. “If Locked drew better, he would be my top pick, but I hate his draw and he still needs to improve,” Yu told SportsLine. Yu is not including Locked in any of her wagers.
Instead, Yu is high on a double-digit longshot who is “getting a chance to play with the big boys.” She is including this horse in her 2025 Pegasus World Cup bets, and so should you. You ABSOLUTELY need to see her picks before locking in any of your own.
