  • NFL Draft order 2025: Patriots now lead race for No. 1 pick after Giants’ surprising victory

NFL Draft order 2025: Patriots now lead race for No. 1 pick after Giants’ surprising victory

There was a shakeup in the NFL Draft order after Week 17.

The New York Giants played their way out of the top overall pick with a surprising victory Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, an outcome that benefitted the New England Patriots who moved into the draft’s top position.

Here are some of the ramifications of that Giants victory, which eliminated the Colts from the postseason race, per Yahoo Sports’ Frank Schwab:

There can be a reasonable argument to be made that the first pick isn’t worth it anyway. Miami’s Cam Ward and [Shedeur] Sanders are the top quarterback draft prospects, and there’s skepticism about them both. Neither is a sure franchise quarterback. But the Giants were at least going to have their pick of the two if they secured No. 1. Now, they’ll likely need to wait and see what falls to them, or if anyone leaps over them in a trade to get Ward or Sanders.

The Raiders’ victory against the New Orleans Saints also benefitted the Patriots. Las Vegas and New York could use a new quarterback, and both Miami star Cam Ward and Colorado star Shedeur Sanders are available and expected to go early in the draft. It would’ve been an easy move for the Giants and Raiders to scoop either quarterback had they lost on Sunday. Now it’s unclear if either player will still be around by the time they are on the clock.

Here’s a look at the current NFL Draft order heading into Week 18 of the regular season:

    1. New England Patriots (3-13)

    2. Tennessee Titans (3-13)

    3. Cleveland Browns (3-13)

    4. New York Giants (3-13)

    5. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-12)

    6. Carolina Panthers (4-12)

    7. New York Jets (4-12)

    8. Las Vegas Raiders (4-12)

    9. Chicago Bears (4-12)

    10. New Orleans Saints (5-11)

    11. San Francisco 49ers (6-10)

    12. Indianapolis Colts (7-9)

    13. Dallas Cowboys (7-9)

    14. Arizona Cardinals (7-9)

    15. Miami Dolphins (8-8)

    16. Cincinnati Bengals (8-8)

    17. Atlanta Falcons (8-8)

    18. Seattle Seahawks (9-7)

    19. Houston Texans (9-7)

    20. Denver Broncos (9-7)

    21. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-7)

    22. Los Angeles Chargers (10-6)

    23. Los Angeles Rams (10-6)

    24. Green Bay Packers (11-5)

    25. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6)

    26. Washington Commanders (11-5)

    27. Baltimore Ravens (11-5)

    28. Philadelphia Eagles (13-3)

    29. Buffalo Bills (13-3)

    30. Minnesota Vikings (14-2)

    31. Detroit Lions (14-2)

    32. Kansas City Chiefs (15-1)

In a shocking turn of events, the New England Patriots have now taken the lead in the race for the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after the New York Giants pulled off a surprising victory.

With just a few weeks left in the regular season, the Patriots were sitting at the bottom of the standings with the worst record in the league. However, the Giants’ unexpected win has now pushed them into the top spot, giving them the best chance to secure the top pick in next year’s draft.

This sudden shift in the draft order has sent shockwaves through the NFL, as many experts had predicted that the Patriots would be in the running for the No. 1 pick. Now, with just a few games left to play, it remains to be seen whether the Patriots will be able to hold on to their lead and secure the top selection in the draft.

As the season winds down, all eyes will be on the Patriots as they look to secure their position at the top of the draft order. Stay tuned for more updates as the race for the No. 1 pick heats up.

NBA MVP Race: Nikola Jokic returns to top in the MVP ladder after a 37-point game vs. Pistons

The 2024 NBA MVP race has now become a two-player race between Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic and OKC Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

For much of the 2024-25 NBA season, the race for MVP seemed like a foregone conclusion. Nikola Jokic, the three-time MVP, has been putting on video-game like numbers, averaging 30.5 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 9.5 assists per game.

However, as the calendar turns toward the halfway point of the season, there has been a tussle for the top of the MVP ladder. Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander overtook Jokic after posting a career-high 45 points in a 120-114 win over the Indiana Pacers on Thursday.

This season, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 31.1 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.7 rebounds, while shooting an impressive 51.6% from the field and 35.4% from three-point range. His scoring has been explosive, and his efficiency has been remarkable. More importantly, his play has helped turn the Oklahoma City Thunder into one of the top teams in the NBA. The Thunder are currently leading the Western Conference with 25-5 record.

However, Jokic reclaimed the top spot in the MVP ladder after a 37-point game which led to a 134-121 win for Nuggets over Pistons on Saturday.

The Serbian finished the game with 37 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists to move to the top spot.

    MVP Race Tightens

According to Basketball Reference, Gilgeous-Alexander had a 37.1% chance of winning MVP after his Thursday’s masterclass. However, Jokic’s latest performance has now put him ahead once again with 42.5% probability of winning his 4th MVP award. The OKC Thunder star is now pushed down to second with 33.1% chance of taking the MVP accolades.

Boston Celtics forward Jason Tatum is also in the mix, ranking third with a 7.3% chance of winning the award. Tatum, who’s averaging 38.7 points and 9.6 rebounds, is having another fantastic season, but for now, it’s a two-player race between Shai and Jokic.

NBA MVP Race: Nikola Jokic returns to top in the MVP ladder after a 37-point game vs. Pistons

Denver Nuggets’ star center, Nikola Jokic, put on a show in a recent game against the Detroit Pistons, scoring a whopping 37 points and leading his team to victory. This performance has catapulted him back to the top of the MVP race, solidifying his status as one of the most dominant players in the league.

Jokic’s unique skill set as a big man who can score, pass, and rebound at an elite level has been on full display this season, and his impact on the Nuggets’ success cannot be understated. With his latest performance, Jokic has once again proven why he deserves to be considered among the frontrunners for the prestigious MVP award.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Jokic as he continues to lead the Nuggets to victory and make his case for the MVP award. With his unparalleled versatility and consistent production, there’s no doubt that Jokic will be a force to be reckoned with in the race for the MVP title.

  • Jalen Williams sounds off on MVP race after huge Shai Gilgeous-Alexander performance

Jalen Williams sounds off on MVP race after huge Shai Gilgeous-Alexander performance

Not only do the OKC Thunder boast the best record in the Western Conference at 26-5, but they also roster arguably the top player in the entire association in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

A true two-way superstar, the 26-year-old has led the charge for this promising young squad all season long and did so once again Sunday evening during Oklahoma City’s 130-106 beatdown over the second-seeded Memphis Grizzlies.

In just 28 minutes of action, Gilgeous-Alexander went on to post monstrous all-around averages of 35 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, and 4 blocks while shooting 73.7 percent from the field and finishing with a game-high +27 plus-minus rating.

To many players across the league, this kind of stat line would come as a result of a career-best performance. For SGA, it’s merely another night, and this sentiment has held strong since last year’s sensational season.

Of course, as Thunder fans are all too aware, despite his on-court heroics and impact on overall team success in 2023-24 the 26-year-old fell shy of a bid for the NBA’s illustrious MVP trophy, finishing second behind Nikola Jokic.

Now, during his follow-up 2024-25 run, it seems that he’s once again projected to finish behind the Denver Nuggets superstar in such a race.

To Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Thunder running mate Jalen Williams, this is seen as an absolute travesty, as he sounded off on the All-Star’s current standing in the MVP leaderboard following the guard’s huge outing against Memphis.

Jalen Williams drops honest take on Thunder star’s MVP candidacy

“Watch the games. It’s pretty obvious. I don’t know how he didn’t get it last year so I don’t know what to tell you. I’m there every day, I see it every day. I’m in the game. Just watch the game trust your eyes… Watch that sh*t. That’s a bad man,” Williams said of SGA’s MVP candidacy.

Through 26 games played, the Thunder superstar finds himself en route to his third-straight All-Star and All-NBA nod while posting otherworldly averages of 31.0 points, 6.2 assists, 5.6 rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 1.2 blocks on 52.3 percent shooting from the floor.

To show just how tremendous this brand of production is, should the season end today Gilgeous-Alexander would be just the 10 player in league history to log 30 or more points in three consecutive seasons and the second to average at least 31.0 points, 6.0 assists, and 2.0 steals while shooting 50 percent or better from the floor.

The only other talent to put forth such numbers: Michael Jordan.

Yet, despite all this, the Thunder cornerstone once again sees himself trailing the centerpiece for the seventh-place Denver Nuggets (17-13)?

Following Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s latest explosion, Jalen Williams seems absolutely baffled that this is the case. Frankly, so, too, should the Thunder faithful!

Jalen Williams, a former NBA player and current sports analyst, recently shared his thoughts on the heated MVP race following a stellar performance from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

In a post-game interview, Williams praised Gilgeous-Alexander for his outstanding performance, calling it a “MVP-caliber” game. The young guard put up impressive numbers, leading his team to a crucial victory with his scoring, playmaking, and leadership on the court.

Williams went on to discuss how Gilgeous-Alexander’s stellar play has elevated him into the MVP conversation, alongside other top contenders like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. He highlighted the impact that Gilgeous-Alexander has had on his team’s success, as well as his ability to take over games and make clutch plays when it matters most.

Williams also emphasized the importance of consistency and durability in the MVP race, noting that players who can maintain a high level of performance throughout the season and stay healthy will have a leg up in the competition.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Gilgeous-Alexander and the other MVP contenders as they continue to make their case for the prestigious award. Stay tuned for more updates and analysis from Jalen Williams as the race heats up.

  • NFL playoff picture and draft order Week 17: Vikings hang on in race for top seed as Rams, Commanders clinch

NFL playoff picture and draft order Week 17: Vikings hang on in race for top seed as Rams, Commanders clinch

As Week 17 of the season wraps up, we now know this: The Philadelphia Eagles are NFC East champions, the Indianapolis Colts were eliminated from the AFC playoff race, and both the Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Rams earned playoff spots.

And the NFC race will now come down to a winner-take-all battle in the NFC North.

The Eagles became the first team in the NFC to claim a division title after their blowout of the rival Dallas Cowboys. Their chances of winning the conference, however, were eliminated on Sunday afternoon after the Vikings held on to beat the Green Bay Packers in Minneapolis. The Vikings’ matchup with the Detroit Lions next week will now determine who wins both the NFC North and the NFC’s No. 1 seed as a whole. The winner of that game gets a first-round bye, and the loser will be the No. 5 seed and have to travel for their first playoff game.

Also in the NFC, the Washington Commanders secured a playoff spot with their overtime win against the Atlanta Falcons. That also gave the Los Angeles Rams the NFC West title and a playoff spot of their own via the strength of victory tiebreaker against the Seattle Seahawks after beating the Arizona Cardinals, 13-9, on Saturday night.

In the AFC, six of the seven playoff spots are taken, and one of them won’t be the Colts, who lost at the New York Giants on Sunday. The defeat knocked them out of the postseason race.

The Kansas City Chiefs clinched the conference’s overall top seed with a 29-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday. The Los Angeles Chargers joined the postseason party with a 40-7 win over the New England Patriots on Saturday afternoon. And the Cincinnati Bengals avoided elimination by defeating the Denver Broncos in overtime on Saturday night.

The Broncos missed a chance to clinch a playoff berth with a win or tie at the Bengals. It would’ve been their first time in the postseason since winning Super Bowl 50. They will conclude the regular season against the Chiefs, who don’t have much to play for with the No. 1 seed already secured.

In order to nab that final postseason wild-card ticket, the Bengals need to win their regular-season finale against the Steelers, have the Broncos lose to the Chiefs and the Dolphins lose next week at the New York Jets. Miami rolled over the Browns on Sunday afternoon.

The Dolphins can get that final playoff slot with a win against the Jets and a Broncos defeat in Week 18.

The NFC North title is up for grabs and down to the Lions and Vikings.

The Vikings beat the Packers at home on Sunday to get to 14-2 on the season. That moved them into the lead in the NFC North. The division will come down to their game next week in Detroit regardless of whether the Lions beat the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night. As of now, the Vikings are looking at a first-round bye in the playoffs.

The rest of the conference is just about solidified. The Commanders are back in the playoffs for the first time since winning the division in 2020 after beating the Falcons. The Buccaneers are leading the NFC South after their blowout win over the Carolina Panthers, but that division is not yet locked up.

Here’s a look at where things stand playoff-wise as we enter the last four games of Week 17.

As of Dec. 29, here’s what the playoff race looks like in the NFC. Bolded teams have clinched a playoff spot.

    2. Los Angeles Chargers (10-6)

    3. Denver Broncos (9-7)

    4. Las Vegas Raiders (4-12)

As for the draft order, both the New York Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders are playing their way out of the top pick and an easy spot to acquire a new franchise quarterback.

The New England Patriots moved into position to claim the No. 1 overall pick in April’s draft this weekend after both the Giants and Raiders won. Both franchises could use a new quarterback, and both Miami star Cam Ward and Colorado star Shedeur Sanders are available and expected to go early in the draft. It would’ve been an easy move for both the Giants and Raiders to scoop either quarterback had they lost on Sunday. Clay Travis accuses Ryan Clark of using his race ‘to mask his insecurities’ in astonishing attack

Outkick founder Clay Travis did not hold back on Ryan Clark after the ESPN analyst claimed that Lamar Jackson deserves the NFL MVP award over Josh Allen as he has ‘evolutionized’ what it means to be a black quarterback.

On Friday, the panel on ESPN’s marquee show First Take discussed the MVP race where Clark praised Jackson for surpassing Michael Vick for the most rushing yards by a quarterback.

However, Outkick’s Bobby Burack wrote about how Clark claimed the Ravens star changed the position while being the ‘most underappreciated QB in the NFL” as a panel of black analysts nodded along.

Reposting their story on X, Travis unloaded on Clark for his approach to the MVP debate.

‘Ryan Clark is basically Carlton without the killer dance moves or likability,’ he said. ‘He’s desperately insecure and uses race as a shield to mask his own horrible insecurities. It’s honestly sad to see.’

‘His bosses are mostly white dudes and terrified of being called racist for firing him so they keep him employed even though he isn’t very talented and provides nothing of any particular value,’ Travis continued.

‘Was there a time when race impacted your success negatively in America? Yes. Was Ryan Clark an adult for any of those times? No. Now he trades on the legacy of racism to stay employed,’ he added. ‘Again, sad to see. ESPN should be better than this. Hell, sports should.’

The two-time MVP has the upper hand on Allen in most statistics this season. Jackson has more passing yards (3,955-3,549), passing touchdowns (39-26), and rushing yards (852-514).

While the Buffalo Bills quarterback only has the higher number in rushing touchdowns, 11-4, ESPN Bet has Allen favored to win the award at -225.

Aside from his previous takes, Clark also alluded to Steve Nash winning two NBA MVPs when ‘Kobe Bryant was the best player in the league.’

Travis was not the only sports media personality who blasted Clark and ESPN after Friday’s First Take.

After Burack compared the Jackson-Allen debate to the Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark conversations earlier this year, Jason Whitlock chimed in with an NBA comparison.

‘You forgot Jokic vs Embiid,’ he said. ‘Not sure if the convos would go much different if you added color. They’re all afraid of being labeled sellouts or racist on social media.

‘You rig the convos with a weak (least informed, least credible person on the panel) host who lives in fear of social media backlash and then you let nature (social media matrix) control the convo,’ Whitlock continued. ‘You can’t have a rugged conversation when the host believes tweets and posts break bones.’ m

Clay Travis, controversial sports commentator and founder of Outkick, has launched a scathing attack on former NFL player and ESPN analyst Ryan Clark, accusing him of using his race “to mask his insecurities.”

In a series of tweets, Travis claimed that Clark, who is black, frequently plays the race card in discussions about sports and social issues as a way to deflect criticism and avoid addressing his own shortcomings.

Travis wrote, “Ryan Clark loves to use his race to deflect from the fact that he’s just not that good at his job. Instead of owning up to his mistakes or shortcomings, he plays the victim and hides behind his race. It’s a sad and pathetic tactic.”

The accusations have sparked outrage among fans and fellow media personalities, with many condemning Travis for his insensitive and inflammatory remarks.

Clark has not yet responded to Travis’ allegations, but it is clear that this feud is far from over. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.
