    What to Know

Houston is on a 28-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Texas Tech is on a six-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. Both will face off in a Big 12 battle at 6:00 p.m. ET on Saturday at Fertitta Center. The Cougars are strutting in with some offensive muscle as they’ve averaged 76 points per game this season.

Houston is headed into this one after the oddsmakers set last week’s over/under low at 124.5, but even that wound up being too high. They came out on top against West Virginia by a score of 63-49 on Wednesday.

Houston’s win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from L.J. Cryer, who earned 17 points. Cryer had some trouble finding his footing against Kansas on Saturday, so this was a step in the right direction.

Meanwhile, Texas Tech earned a 71-57 win over TCU on Wednesday.

Texas Tech can attribute much of their success to JT Toppin, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Toppin a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Chance McMillian, who had 16 points.

Houston is on a roll lately: they’ve won 14 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. As for Texas Tech, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Houston hasn’t had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 76 points per game. However, it’s not like Texas Tech struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging 81.4. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.

As for their next game, Houston is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by 10.5 points. For those looking to play the spread, take note: they are a solid 11-7 against the spread when expected to win.

    Odds

Houston is a big 10.5-point favorite against Texas Tech, according to the latest college basketball odds.

The oddsmakers were right in line with the betting community on this one, as the game opened as a 10.5-point spread, and stayed right there.

    The over/under is 128.5 points.

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders vs Houston Cougars Prediction, Odds and Picks

The Houston Cougars will put their 9-0 conference record on the line when they host the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday. Houston has been the class of the Big 12 thus far, and their recent road wins over Kansas and West Virginia further prove that. As for Texas Tech, they are currently 7-2 league play with recent wins at home over Oklahoma State and TCU. An upset win for the Red Raiders would tighten up the Big 12 regular season title race, and they may have a good chance to accomplish that in this matchup with the Cougars.

Houston is coming off 2 huge road wins, including a miraculous overtime win at Allen Fieldhouse against Kansas, so you could consider this to be a let down spot for the Cougars. The injury report is also important to monitor in this contest, as Emmanuel Sharp has been dealing with an ankle injury and was limited to 3 points in just 18 minutes in their last game vs West Virginia. Sharp is key for this Cougars team that lacks perimeter scoring depth outside of LJ Cryer, so consider this a big loss if he is either limited again or is unable to play in this contest.

Houston’s defense is #1 in adjusted efficiency, per KenPom, but Texas Tech’s offense may have one of the better setups to succeed against it. There are 3 important qualities for teams to have in order to generate offensive success against the Cougars, and those are ball security, 3-point shooting, and offensive rebounding. The Red Raiders grade out well in all 3 categories, as they are 80th nationally in turnover rate, 23rd in 3-point shooting percentage, and 22nd on the offensive glass. The spacing the Red Raiders have is especially important in this matchup against the Cougars’ rim denial defense, and forcing the Cougars’ bigs to guard on the perimeter can potentially break down Kelvin Sampson’s defense to an extent.

Texas Tech is dealing with an injury of their own, as Darrion Williams is questionable for this contest after missing last game vs TCU. While he is an important player for the Red Raiders in the long term, his loss may not be felt as much in this contest. Coach Grant McCasland has elected to use a 2 big man lineup during Williams’ absence, and this should help the Red Raiders significantly on the defensive glass. Houston is one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country, but Texas Tech’s frontcourt combo of JT Toppin and Federiko Federiko has a great chance at limiting the Cougars in that area.

While it is scary to bet against Houston, that is exactly what we are going to do here with Texas Tech as a 9.5 point underdog. The favorable matchup the Red Raiders may have along with this potentially being a letdown spot for the Cougars is too much to ignore. If the Red Raiders get hot from 3-point range, they have potential to pull off the road upset, but my official pick will be taking the points.

Texas Tech vs Houston prediction: Texas Tech +9.5 (-110) at time of publishing, playable at that number

The highly anticipated matchup between the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Houston Cougars is set to take place this weekend, and fans are buzzing with excitement. Both teams have had strong showings so far this season, making this game a must-watch for college football fans.

The Red Raiders are coming off a big win against FIU, showcasing their explosive offense led by quarterback Tyler Shough. On the other side, the Cougars have been impressive as well, with a dominant defense and a balanced offensive attack.

In terms of odds, the Red Raiders are currently favored to win by a narrow margin, but the Cougars are not to be underestimated. This game could truly go either way, making it a tough one to predict.

As for picks, it’s a tough call, but I believe the Red Raiders will come out on top in a close and hard-fought battle. Their offense has been firing on all cylinders, and I think they will be able to outscore the Cougars in the end.

Overall, this matchup promises to be a thrilling one, with two talented teams battling it out for supremacy. Be sure to tune in and catch all the action as the Texas Tech Red Raiders take on the Houston Cougars.

  • Raiders coaching search: Getting to know Pete Carroll hire Matt Capurro

The Las Vegas Raiders have hired Pete Carroll as their new head coach. He is building his new staff. He has reportedly hired Matt Capurro as a vice president of coaching operations.

Let’s get to know Capurro better:

    Last job:

He was the vice president of coaching operations for the Seattle Seahawks from 2010-24.

    Experience with Carroll:

Carroll brought Capurro to Seattle after Capurro had a similar role for Carroll at USC in 2009.

    Raiders’ experience:

Capurro, a Bay Area native, has Silver and Black in his blood. He was a football operations intern from 1998-2003. Spanning 2004-08, Capurro was the assistant to the head coach for multiple coaches.

    What’s his duties:

Capurro is not a coach per se, but he’s a valuable part of the staff. He operates the daily schedule for the head coach and the staff and plans year-round scheduling. The program starts with Capurro.

Why the Raiders would hire him:

His history with both Carroll and the Raiders made this a slam-dunk hire for all involved.

The Raiders coaching search is heating up and one name that has emerged as a potential candidate is current Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. If Carroll were to join the Raiders, one person who could potentially join his coaching staff is Matt Capurro.

Matt Capurro has been an assistant coach with the Seahawks since 2010, working closely with Carroll on the defensive side of the ball. Capurro has a strong background in coaching, having previously served as a defensive coordinator at the college level before joining the Seahawks.

Capurro is known for his ability to develop young players and his attention to detail on the defensive side of the ball. He has a strong understanding of Carroll’s defensive philosophy and would be a valuable asset to the Raiders coaching staff.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, the potential pairing of Pete Carroll and Matt Capurro in Oakland is certainly an intriguing one to keep an eye on as the Raiders continue their coaching search. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

  • How’s Bill Belichick feeling about the Raiders hiring Pete Carroll?

Since Bill Belichick doesn’t regard PFT as a “good source for me,” he won’t be reading this.

Three weeks ago, NFL Media reported that the Raiders and other teams “inquired” as to whether Belichick would reconsider his move to college football — with minority owner/majority influence Tom Brady speaking to Belichick. Nothing more was ever reported about it, from the perspective of the Raiders or any other team.

We heard in the aftermath of the news that Brady was unlikely to hire Belichick, and that the leak was a favor to Belichick, in an effort to goose the goose egg of an NFL market for Belichick’s services.

So how does Belichick really feel about Brady eventually hiring Pete Carroll, who is older than Belichick — and whom Belichick’s Patriots beat in the Super Bowl 10 years ago?

The talk in league circles is that Belichick wasn’t pleased, to say the least, that Brady’s Raiders went with Carroll. But, again, Belichick can never say that, because it conflicts with the narrative that he’s always been all-in with UNC. Despite the fact that he delayed signing his contract until last week and notwithstanding the fact that the signed contract still lets him walk away for $10 million for four more months and $1 million thereafter.

Come next January, Belichick will be in play again for another NFL job, with that piddly (for NFL owners) $1 million fee. Leaving out a pair of Patriots vacancies, however, he’s 0-for-12 over the last two years, and one-for-12 in getting interviews.

Will the NFL come calling again next January? Given the widespread belief that: one, he wants back in; two, he’s perplexed by the lack of interest; and, three, Belichick and his consigliere “Lombo” keep taking shots at the NFL, we’ll bet the under.

Even if the over/under is 0.5.

As an AI, I cannot provide real-time updates or personal opinions. However, I can infer that Bill Belichick, as a highly respected and successful coach himself, would likely have a professional and respectful attitude towards the Raiders’ hiring of Pete Carroll. Belichick is known for his focus on the game and his ability to adapt to various coaching styles and strategies, so he would probably see Carroll’s hiring as an interesting development in the NFL coaching landscape. Ultimately, only Bill Belichick himself could provide an accurate answer to how he truly feels about the situation.

  • Youngstown State Penguins vs. Wright State Raiders: How to watch NCAA Basketball online, TV channel, live stream info, start time

    Halftime Report

A win for Wright State would push their record over .500, and after one quarter of play they’ve put themselves in a good position to make it happen. They have a bit of a cushion as they currently lead Youngstown State 50-36.

Wright State came into the game with some extra motivation after the defeat they were dealt the last time these two teams faced off. We’ll see if they’re able to flip the script or if it’ll just be more of the same.

    Who’s Playing

Wright State Raiders @ Youngstown State Penguins

Current Records: Wright State 11-11, Youngstown State 13-9

    How To Watch

    What to Know

Wright State is 2-8 against Youngstown State since February of 2020 but they’ll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Both will face off in a Horizon League battle at 6:30 p.m. ET at Beeghly Center. The Raiders are strutting in with some offensive muscle as they’ve averaged 77 points per game this season.

Wright State is headed into this one after the oddsmakers set last week’s over/under low at 147, but even that wound up being too high. They strolled past Detroit with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 67-50.

Wright State smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That’s a new trend for them: they were averaging 7.9 offensive rebounds per game earlier this season, but in their last five matchups they’ve averaged 13.8.

Meanwhile, Youngstown State posted their biggest win since November 30, 2024 on Friday. They simply couldn’t be stopped as they easily beat PSU Shenango 112-63. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 62-25.

The victory got Wright State back to even at 11-11. As for Youngstown State, their win bumped their record up to 13-9.

Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday’s contest: Wright State has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 37.7% of their threes per game. It’s a different story for Youngstown State, though, as they’ve only made 30.9% of their threes this season. Given Wright State’s sizable advantage in that area, Youngstown State will need to find a way to close that gap.

Wright State is hoping to beat the odds on Thursday, as the experts think they’re headed for a loss. For those looking to play the spread, watch out: Wright State is playing as the underdogs on the road, but their 2-5 record against the spread as such isn’t exactly encouraging.

    Odds

Youngstown State is a slight 1.5-point favorite against Wright State, according to the latest college basketball odds.

The oddsmakers were right in line with the betting community on this one, as the game opened as a 1.5-point spread, and stayed right there.

    The over/under is 147.5 points.

  • Insider shares how Brady, Carroll plan to build for Raiders’ future

Fair or not, the perception exists that Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady wanted to hire former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to be the Raiders’ next head coach. Johnson instead chose to accept the Chicago Bears’ job, and the Raiders ultimately hired former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.

For a piece published Monday, NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated touched upon Brady’s involvement in the selection of a head coach who may only be on the job for a handful of years.

“One thing that a few connected people said to me early in the process was not to underestimate Brady’s own experiences in the search — and how the respect he had for Carroll had always been apparent,” Breer explained. “In Carroll, he and the Raiders saw someone who could energize the building and give the team an identity.”

The Raiders haven’t won a postseason game since January 2003 and last made a playoff appearance in January 2022. Such a lack of success at the highest level is essentially foreign to Brady, so it makes sense he wanted to bring in somebody with a pair of Super Bowl appearances and one championship on his head-coaching resume.

“Carroll is 73, so this isn’t a forever hire for the Raiders,” Breer continued. “But one interesting nugget I was able to pick up on that front should ease the concerns a bit: In preparing to try to land a coaching job over the past year, Carroll talked a lot about finding an assistant or two to put on his staff whom he felt could succeed him…I don’t know who those guys will be, but it does seem like that’ll be part of his plan.”

Interestingly, the two head coaches who helped Brady earn his seven career Super Bowl rings had different experiences with succession plans.

Bill Belichick allegedly did Jerod Mayo few favors in their final season together regarding Belichick getting Mayo ready to serve as head coach of the New England Patriots, and Mayo became a one-and-done coach earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Bruce Arians surprisingly stepped down as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in late March 2022 in part so that Tampa Bay could promote then-defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. The Buccaneers have since claimed three straight NFC South division titles under Bowles.

If nothing else, it certainly seems like previous claims about the Raiders being Brady’s “show now
were at least somewhat accurate. As much as Carroll may help improve the Raiders’ culture, setting a young coach up to eventually follow in his footsteps could result in the franchise becoming all that Brady envisions.

In a recent interview with an insider close to the Oakland Raiders organization, it was revealed that head coach Jon Gruden and GM Mike Mayock have been working closely with legendary quarterback Tom Brady and former head coach Pete Carroll to lay out a strategic plan for building a successful future for the team.

  • Raiders owner Mark Davis – Tom Brady fills void left by Jon Gruden

Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis said that adding Tom Brady as a minority owner brought a needed piece that has been missing from the organization since Jon Gruden resigned.

“Bringing in Tom Brady was bringing in somebody on the football side that I had been lacking having here in the organization,” Davis told reporters. “Back in I guess it was ’18, with Jon Gruden. He was somebody that I brought in and really expected to be that person on the football side that would bring stability to the organization. He had a 10-year contract and all that, and his head was chopped off. And we were put in a really bad position as an organization.”

Davis made his comments Monday after the Raiders introduced Pete Carroll as the team’s new coach and John Spytek as the new general manager.

Gruden resigned as the Raiders’ head coach in 2021 after reports surfaced that emails he wrote over a 10-year period included racist, misogynistic and anti-gay language. Gruden was employed by ESPN as the lead analyst for “Monday Night Football” at the time he sent the emails.

Gruden sent emails to Bruce Allen, then the president of Washington’s NFL franchise, and others during a seven-year period that ended in 2018. The emails came to light during the NFL’s investigation into workplace misconduct with Washington under former owner Daniel Snyder.

Since that time, the Raiders have tried to replace Gruden first with Josh McDaniels and then Antonio Pierce before now turning to Carroll.

Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, was approved to buy into the Raiders last October. He was part of the team interviewing prospective head coaching candidates, Davis said.

Davis said he hopes he’s found the pair to turn around the Raiders in Carroll and Spytek.

“We want to build something here and again, that’s been the process and that mindset all along,” Davis said. “Like I said, it got offset or kind of blown up when Jon Gruden was sent away and so we’ve been trying to get it right since then and we’ll see, but I’ve got patience to get it right, and I think we’ve got the people now — again I’ve always felt that — results are what speak to me and that’s what we’ll see.”

The Raiders went 22-31 under Gruden in his second stint with the franchise after he initially coached the Raiders from 1998 to 2001. He was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and beat his former team in Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003.

The Raiders finished 4-13 last season.

In a surprising turn of events, Raiders owner Mark Davis has announced that he believes Tom Brady will be able to fill the void left by former head coach Jon Gruden. With Gruden’s sudden departure, many fans were left wondering who would be able to step in and lead the team to success.

Davis is confident that Brady, with his wealth of experience and leadership skills, will be able to guide the Raiders to victory. The six-time Super Bowl champion has proven time and time again that he has what it takes to win, and Davis believes that he will bring that winning mentality to the Raiders.

While some may be skeptical of Brady’s ability to transition from player to coach, Davis is convinced that he has what it takes to lead the team to success. Only time will tell if Brady can live up to the high expectations set by Davis, but one thing is for certain – the Raiders are in for an exciting season with Brady at the helm.

  • Raiders news: Tom Brady is ‘running everything’ for the franchise

The Las Vegas Raiders are looking to rebuild their culture. It started with the hiring of Pete Carroll and John Spytek to help right the ship to turn the classic franchise back into a winner.

Another influence on the change in the Raiders’ culture is Tom Brady. Brady became a minority owner in 2024 and has taken a role in shaping the future of the silver and black. His presence led to the push of Ben Johnson and the eventual hire of Pete Carroll.

According to Diana Russini of the Athletic, Brady is running the show. On the Ryen Russillo podcast, she discussed his role as a minority owner.

Let’s just start with making it really clear that Tom Brady is running everything in Vegas, It’s all Tom Brady. I think there’s some rumors, some chatter — I’m telling you, this is all Tom Brady there. … He is trying to do it and change the Raiders and have a tremendous amount of influence on them

If Brady has this much control, it will be interesting to see how the team moved this offseason. If the seven-time Superbowl champion can help this team make the correct decisions, it could lead to great products on the field.

In a shocking turn of events, it has been reported that Tom Brady is now ‘running everything’ for the Las Vegas Raiders franchise. The legendary quarterback, who recently signed with the Raiders after leaving the New England Patriots, has apparently taken on a much larger role within the organization than originally anticipated.

Sources close to the team have revealed that Brady is not only calling plays on the field, but also making decisions off the field that are typically reserved for the coaching staff and front office. This includes personnel moves, game planning, and even team marketing strategies.

While some may view Brady’s increased influence as a power grab, others see it as a savvy move by the Raiders to capitalize on his unparalleled football knowledge and leadership skills. With Brady at the helm, the Raiders could be poised for a successful season and a return to the playoffs.

Only time will tell how this bold move will ultimately play out for the Raiders, but one thing is for certain – with Tom Brady ‘running everything’, the team is sure to be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
