  • Texans hiring Rams’ Nick Caley as new OC, source says

The Houston Texans are hiring Nick Caley as their offensive coordinator, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.

Caley, who has spent the past two seasons on Sean McVay’s staff with the Los Angeles Rams, replaces Bobby Slowik, who was fired last month after two seasons.

Caley spent this past season as the Rams’ pass game coordinator and tight ends coach. Before joining the Rams, Caley spent six seasons as the New England Patriots‘ tight ends coach.

The Texans (10-7) won the AFC South in 2024 and reached the divisional round for the second consecutive season, but the offense struggled throughout the year.

According to sources, the Houston Texans are set to hire Los Angeles Rams’ tight ends coach Nick Caley as their new offensive coordinator. Caley has been with the Rams since 2018 and has played a key role in the development of their tight end group.

Texans fans are hopeful that Caley will bring some of the innovative offensive strategies and schemes that he’s learned under Rams head coach Sean McVay to Houston. With a talented quarterback in Deshaun Watson and a solid group of skill players, Caley could have the tools to help the Texans’ offense reach new heights.

Stay tuned for official confirmation from the team on this exciting coaching hire. #Texans #NickCaley #OC #NFLcoaching

  • Report: Rams’ Nick Caley not interested in Jets OC position despite being ‘their top option’

There’s a chance Nick Caley will leave the Los Angeles Rams for an offensive coordinator opportunity this offseason, but it won’t be with the New York Jets.

According to Connor Hughes of SNY, Caley has told the Jets that he’s not interested in being their offensive coordinator. Hughes reports that Caley was the team’s “top option” but he has “let it be known he did not have interest in the job.”

With LaFleur out of the running, the Jets are expected to hire Tanner Engstrand as their offensive coordinator. For Caley, he’s also being pursued by the Buccaneers and Texans, so he could potentially leave the Rams for one of those OC openings.

Caley just finished his second season with the Rams as their tight ends coach, also serving as their pass game coordinator under Sean McVay. He joined the Rams in 2023 after eight years with the Patriots, seven of which were as their tight ends coach.

This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: Report: Rams’ Nick Caley not interested in Jets OC position despite being ‘their top option’

According to a recent report, Los Angeles Rams tight ends coach Nick Caley is not interested in the New York Jets’ offensive coordinator position, despite being considered their top option for the role. Caley, who has been with the Rams since 2018, has garnered interest from several teams looking to fill coaching vacancies this offseason.

Despite the Jets reportedly viewing Caley as their top choice for the offensive coordinator position, it seems that he is not inclined to leave the Rams at this time. Caley has played a significant role in the development of the Rams’ tight ends, including standout player Tyler Higbee, and may be content to continue his work with the team.

While the Jets may need to explore other options for their offensive coordinator position, Caley’s decision to stay with the Rams could be seen as a vote of confidence in the organization and its coaching staff. It remains to be seen who the Jets will ultimately choose to fill the role, but it appears that Caley will not be making the move to New York.

  • Eagles RB Saquon Barkley is ‘definitely going to call’ LeSean McCoy in case of snow game versus Rams

Having grown up in the northeast and played college ball at Penn State before becoming a New York Giant and finally an Eagle this season, Barkley is no stranger to snow.

Nor is the ninth and newest member of the 2,000-yard rushing club new to operating on a different level himself.

Still, any intel is welcome when a trip to the NFC Championship Game is on the line — especially considering the Rams’ defensive hot streak and likely increased focus on Barkley after he undid them so ruthlessly in the regular season.

In Week 12, Barkley ran roughshod over Los Angeles, breaking McCoy’s previous single-game franchise rushing record with 255 yards and also setting an Eagles record for yards from scrimmage with 302. He scored twice, gargantuan outbursts of 70 and 72 yards. It was the most yards, both rushing and scrimmage, the Rams have ever allowed to a single player.

For as great as his performance was, though, Barkley is aware that the past two months have proven transformative for a young L.A. defense coming into its own.

In large part due to their D, the Rams haven’t lost a contest in which they’ve played their starters since that embarrassment, and from Week 15 through Wild Card Weekend have allowed 12.6 points per game and 96.6 rushing yards per game without giving up a single TD on the ground.

“They’re a way better team than they were on defense,” Barkley said. “In my opinion, watching film of them and seeing how much they’ve improved, they’re playing great football on that side right now. We know it’s going to be a challenge. When you rush for over 300 yards against a team, they’re going to have some type of game plan to make sure it don’t happen again.”

It’s fitting that the Rams’ next test pits them against the team and player that gashed them to historical proportions just before their late-season turnaround began.

But snow or no, and regardless of L.A.’s improvement, Barkley is confident his Eagles can reign victorious once again.

“I don’t really buy into the weather thing,” he said. “Whoever comes out there and executes is going to be the team that’s going to win. That’s my mindset. I trust in the system that we have and I trust in the game plan that we have. … Whether it’s five degrees or 90, just got to go out there and execute and we’re going to be alright.”

With the Philadelphia Eagles set to face off against the Los Angeles Rams in a potential snow game, running back Saquon Barkley is not taking any chances. Barkley, who is known for his explosive running style, has decided to reach out to former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy for some advice on how to navigate the slippery conditions.

In a recent interview, Barkley revealed that he is “definitely going to call” McCoy for some tips on how to excel in a snow game. McCoy, who spent six seasons with the Eagles and is no stranger to playing in adverse weather conditions, is sure to have some valuable insights to share with Barkley.

With the stakes high and the weather unpredictable, Barkley is determined to be as prepared as possible for whatever Mother Nature throws his way. By seeking advice from a seasoned veteran like McCoy, he is showing his commitment to doing whatever it takes to help his team come out on top.

As Eagles fans eagerly await Sunday’s matchup, they can rest assured knowing that Barkley is leaving no stone unturned in his quest for victory. And if the game does turn into a snowstorm, they can trust that Barkley will be ready to rise to the occasion, thanks in part to the wisdom he gleaned from McCoy.

Duquesne is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Dayton just ended the team’s three-game winning streak on Tuesday. Duquesne’s defeat shouldn’t obscure the performances of Tre Dinkins III, who earned 14 points, and Kareem Rozier, who had eight points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Meanwhile, Fordham’s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight loss. They fell to Loyola Chi. 70-66.

Fordham’s defeat shouldn’t obscure the performances of Japhet Medor, who went 6 for 11 en route to 22 points plus six assists, and Jackie Johnson III, who earned 22 points in addition to two steals. The matchup was Johnson III’s third in a row with at least 22.4 points.

Duquesne now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Fordham, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

Duquesne came up short against Fordham when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 79-67. Can Duquesne avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We’ll find out soon enough.

  • 6 takeaways from a heart-pounding, thrilling 28-22 victory over the Rams

This one had everything you could ever want in an NFC Divisional Playoff Game – big runs, chunk plays in the passing game, defensive takeaways, and a heart-stopping, last-possession ending on a tight, incredibly tense afternoon in a wind-blown snowstorm at Lincoln Financial Field as the Eagles advanced to the NFC Championship Game with a 28-22 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Next up: The Washington Commanders on Sunday, 3 PM, the third meeting of the season between the teams.

Where to begin with the takeaways? How about with the guy who has done it all season and who again delivered in a huge way in this one …

    1. Saquon Barkley with home runs

Los Angeles did a much better job against Barkley the second time around – he had a franchise-record 255 yards on November 24 with scoring runs of 70 and 72 yards. On Sunday, the Rams bottled him up in a lot of ways … but not in every way. And Barkley still delivered bombs.

He scored on touchdown runs of 62 yards and 78 yards and gained 205 yards (an Eagles playoff record) on 26 carries. The 62-yarder came in the first quarter and pushed the Eagles into a 13-7 lead. The 78-yarder was spectacular – it happened with 4 minutes, 47 seconds remaining and it gave the Eagles a 28-15 advantage. Barkley sprinted across the back of the end zone after the score and slid in the snow in a joyous celebration and he deserved every bit of it. The two runs totaled 140 of his 205 yards, so he gained 65 yards on the other 24 rushing attempts as the Rams crashed the line of scrimmage with heavy run blitzes and well-executed run fits and they tackled him extremely well.

“I just want to make good plays for the team,” Barkley said. “Before that, I just kept telling myself just locking in, being focused, and the o-line did a really good job. I was able to set stuff over my shoulders and pop two big ones.”

But the Eagles stayed at it with Barkley and it paid off, as it has all season.

    1. The defense gets the final stop

Philadelphia’s defense, the best in the NFL all season, battled against a Rams offense that played well throughout the game. Quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 26 of 44 passes for 324 yards, Kyren Williams ran for 106 yards, and the Rams threatened for much of the game with 402 total net yards offensively and also answered that Barkley 78-yard touchdown run with a 10-play, 70-yard touchdown drive that took only 1:48 off the clock. But the Eagles’ defense also did a lot of excellent things with two takeaways – Jalen Carter punched the football away from Stafford and cornerback Isaiah Rodgers recovered and returned it 40 yards to the Rams’ 10-yard line, which resulted in three points, and also Nolan Smith who had a strip-sack of Stafford and Zack Baun recovered, a takeaway that led to another three points.

And then, fittingly, the defense was on the field at the end of the game when the Rams drove all the way to the Philadelphia 13-yard line with just over one minute remaining in the game. Carter then had a great pass rush up the middle and sacked Stafford for a loss of 9 on a third-and-2 play. On fourth-and-11, Carter again pressured Stafford, who threw incomplete for wide receiver Puka Nacua and the game was over.

“It was surreal. I was really focused on trying to finish the game out,” Carter said after the game. “I know I had the sack on third down, but I was trying to get everybody together. I knew they had one more play in them, and we got a stop and won the game.”

Carter finished with two quarterback sacks, 5 total tackles, a forced fumble, a tipped pass, and he was the constant focus of the Rams’ blocking scheme. The Eagles had five sacks in all and overcame the loss of cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, who left the game on the defense’s opening drive and was capably replaced by Isaiah Rodgers.

“We believe in each other, we trust in one another, and we’re here for the long run. We hit the ball out a lot. We’re trying to go all the way. There’s only one goal – win that Super Bowl,” Carter said.

    1. Jalen Hurts: Steady, calm, and a huge play to start the game

Quarterback Jalen Hurts and the passing game aren’t exactly where they collectively want to be, but the wins are the wins. Hurts finished off the game’s first drive with a 44-yard touchdown run and accounted for 70 yards on 7 carries. He also completed 15 of 20 passes for 128 yards and didn’t turn the ball over. However, the offense was searching all game for a constant rhythm. The weather conditions didn’t help and there were some opportunities down the field that didn’t come through and in the end, it was a game with some plays Hurts would like to have back, but a result he loves: Another win and one step closer to the Super Bowl.

“It is everything. This is what you work for. This is what all of our energy and all of my energy has been geared towards,” Hurts said when asked what it means to be playing still this late in the season and trying to get to the Super Bowl. “Enough is never enough. Our performance today was enough to win, but enough is never enough in terms of the standards we have for ourselves and what we want to do. There’s always a hunger. There’s always a drive for more and this urge to continue to improve, and that’s how it will continue to be. At this point in the season, the number one thing is about improving.”

    1. The defense stepped up in crunch time: Despite facing a high-powered Rams offense, our defense came through in the clutch, making key stops and forcing turnovers when it mattered most.
    2. The offense found its rhythm: After struggling in recent weeks, our offense finally clicked, with the passing game and running game both finding success against a tough Rams defense.
    3. Special teams played a crucial role: From a game-changing punt return to clutch field goals, our special teams unit made a major impact on the outcome of the game.
    4. Coaching adjustments paid off: The coaching staff made effective adjustments throughout the game, putting players in positions to succeed and exploiting the weaknesses of the Rams’ defense.
    5. Resilience was key: Despite facing adversity and falling behind early, our team never wavered and continued to fight until the very end, ultimately securing the thrilling victory.
    6. This win could be a turning point: Beating a talented team like the Rams in such dramatic fashion could be just the spark our team needs to build momentum and make a push for the playoffs.

  • Bears request to interview Rams assistant Aubrey Pleasant for their DC

The Bears have requested Rams assistant Aubrey Pleasant to interview for their vacant defensive coordinator job, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

Pleasant currently serves as the Rams’ assistant head coach and defensive passing game coordinator.

He has been with the Rams for two seasons, working with the defensive backs and serving as assistant head coach in 2023.

Pleasant was an offensive consultant for the Packers in 2022 and the defensive backs and passing game coordinator for the Lions in 2021-22. In his first stint with the Rams, he was the cornerbacks coach from 2017-20.

Pleasant also has interned for the Browns (2013) and worked for Washington (2013-16).

The Chicago Bears have requested permission to interview Los Angeles Rams assistant coach Aubrey Pleasant for their vacant defensive coordinator position. Pleasant, who has been with the Rams since 2017, has played a key role in developing the team’s dominant defense.

The Bears are looking to revamp their defense after a disappointing season, and Pleasant’s track record with the Rams makes him an attractive candidate. He has experience working with top-tier talent and has been praised for his ability to connect with players and get the most out of them.

It remains to be seen if the Rams will grant the Bears permission to interview Pleasant, but if they do, he could be a strong contender for the job. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

  • Bears to interview Rams assistant head coach for defensive coordinator position

Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson will interview Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator and assitant head coach Aubrey Pleasant for the Bears’ defensive coordinator position, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Pleasant has been with the Rams since 2023, when he joined the team as Sean McVay’s defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator before being promoted in 2024 to assistant head coach.

Prior to the Rams, Pleasant spent time with Ben Johnson in Detroit where he served as the Lions’ defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator in 2021. He had a one-year stint in Green Bay as an offensive consultant in 2022.

All total, Pleasant has been coaching in the NFL since 2013 and has a wide range of experience, but his resume doesn’t suggest he’d be the kind of splash hire many Bears fans are expecting for Johnson’s staff.

Pleasant was fired by the Lions midway through the 2022 season. Although he’s rehabilitated his career under McVay, I think it’s safe to say hiring him to serve as the Bears’ defensive coordinator would be a questionable call.

Still, we’re in the ‘In Ben Johnson We Trust’ era. If Johnson likes Pleasant, then there’s no reason for Bears fans to object.

The Chicago Bears are set to interview Los Angeles Rams assistant head coach and linebackers coach, Joe Barry, for their vacant defensive coordinator position. Barry has been with the Rams since 2017 and has played a key role in their dominant defense.

The Bears are looking to revamp their defense after a disappointing season and believe that Barry’s experience and expertise could help turn things around. Barry has a strong track record of success in the NFL, having previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Washington Football Team and the Detroit Lions.

Stay tuned for updates on the Bears’ coaching search and whether Joe Barry will be the one to lead their defense in the upcoming season.
