However, a series of not-so-pleasant events made him end up at Marshall University. In just his first year there, he shattered several records. He quickly established himself as a feared offensive player and a household name in college football. In 1997, he earned the MAC Player of the Year award and was named All-American.
Going into the draft, scouts rated Moss a high first-round pick. The Vikings were the first to make the move, selecting him as the 21st overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft.

#NFL #HOF #Spotlight #Randy #MossRandy Travis dedicates ‘Horses in Heaven’ to the victims of the Washington DC aerial crash
The song is Travis’ second in a year
A year in the making brings the launch of Randy Travis’ new single, “Horses In Heaven” amidst a heavy week for many. Travis dedicates the single to a Warner Music executive who died this week and the 67 people who were killed when an Army Black Hawk helicopter collided with an American Airlines passenger jet while the plane was descending to land at Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC on Tuesday night.
The song, penned by Jon Randall and Matt Nolen, had quite the journey to Country Music Hall of Famer, Travis. It’s a perfect fit for the artist who has been horseback since he was a baby. Harold Traywick, Randy’s late father, was a renowned horse trainer in North Carolina and ensured that his children inherited his skills.
Randy Travis addressed the heaviness of the moment in a statement on his social media, yesterday (Thurs, Jan 30th). “This has been an incredibly hard 24 hours. Last night, many souls were lost in the horrific plane crash in Washington, D.C. and this morning, we lost a dear member of our country music and Warner Music family, publishing giant Ben Vaughn. My prayers are with all of the people affected by these losses, including members of our team,” he writes. “Tomorrow’s song release, ‘Horses In Heaven’ feels like a timely reminder of God’s love and mercy and I hope it brings some comfort to those of us hurting through these tragedies. We have decided to continue with this release and promotion of it, but felt remiss to not share what’s on my heart right now… God Bless Ben, the victims of last night’s crash and all who are feeling the heaviness of this moment.”
“Horses in Heaven” follows last year’s release of Where That Came From,” which marked the neotraditionalist’s first charted song in two decades. The song made history as Travis authorized his longtime producer Kyle Lehning to use a revolutionary AI-powered voice model to release his first new music in over a decade. With the help of two amazing songwriters John Scott Sherrill and Scotty Emerick, Lehning, the musicians who helped make his songs so iconic for decades of recording and special guest vocalist James Dupré, provided a new musician credit “vocal bed” for the song.
Travis is a titan of country music – a “Mt. Rushmore of Country Music” figure for countless artists who have stood in his footsteps. His music continues to resonate with today’s listeners just as it did when he first hit the airwaves in 1986. His latest RIAA certification proves that enduring impact – his 2002 single “Three Wooden Crosses” earned platinum of one million sales in July 2024. His signature sophomore album – the astounding five-time platinum Always & Forever – features the double-platinum single “Forever and Ever, Amen” while Travis’ debut genre-altering album Storms of Life is certified triple platinum and sits alongside two double platinum, four platinum, and four gold albums, in addition to numerous single certifications. Travis set and maintained many sales pinnacles – like the most weeks at No. 1 of any country album – that has only been beaten by names like Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, and more recently, Taylor Swift, Luke Combs, and Morgan Wallen.
This year, fans can catch him on the road with Dupré on vocals for the More Life Tour, a musical celebration of Randy Travis with his original band and all of the hits.
Country music legend Randy Travis paid tribute to the victims of the recent Washington DC aerial crash by dedicating his song ‘Horses in Heaven’ to them. The tragic incident took the lives of several individuals, leaving a community in mourning. In a heartfelt gesture, Travis took to social media to share a video of himself performing the emotional ballad, expressing his condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. The lyrics of the song, which speak of finding solace and peace in the afterlife, resonated deeply with those affected by the tragedy.
As the country music community comes together to offer support and comfort during this difficult time, Randy Travis’s touching tribute serves as a reminder of the healing power of music and the strength that can be found in unity and compassion. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the Washington DC aerial crash. #HorsesinHeaven #RandyTravis #WashingtonDCTribute #CountryMusicCommunity #HealingThroughMusic.

Country legend Randy Travis will release a new single titled “Horses in Heaven” tomorrow (January 31). The track comes just eight months after he released his AI-assisted comeback single “Where That Came From” last May.
Yesterday (January 29), Travis took to social media to share the big news. In a lengthy post, he explained how special the new song is to him and expressed his joy at being able to release new music after suffering a stroke that prevented him from singing or speaking.
“When I began my recovery almost 12 years ago many things changed but one thing stayed the same: my desire to share new music and create new memories,” he wrote in the post. “I’m grateful to have the opportunity to continue doing that thanks to family, friends, fans, and God’s grace,” he added.
“After my last release, I told you there would be more where that came from and I’m excited to jump back in the saddle and release a brand new recording, ‘Horses in Heaven,’” Travis shared. “I still remember the first time I stepped into those stirrups as a little boy, and my horses have been family to me ever since,” he added.
“This song is a special one and I can’t wait for all of you to hear it,” Travis wrote before concluding the post by urging fans to pre-save the song ahead of its release.
How Randy Travis and His Team Harness AI to Create New Music
Randy Travis suffered a major stroke in 2013. Fortunately, he survived the ordeal but it left him with aphasia which stole his ability to speak and sing. However, it didn’t take his desire to create music for the generations of country music fans who want to hear his silky baritone. More than a decade after everyone thought his career was over, technology allowed Travis to sing once again, kind of.
When Travis and his team created “Where That Came From” last year, they combined an AI model based on his vocal track from the song “1982” while James DuPre provided the vocal track for the new song. Kyle Lehning, Travis’ longtime producer, collaborator, and friend combined the new vocal track with the AI model to build the new single. “Horses in Heaven” was likely created by a similar process.

Kansas City Chiefs star defensive tackle Chris Jones drew comparisons to Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss for his impact during the Chiefs’ 32-29 win over the Buffalo Bills in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game.
“The whole first half is long drives against K.C., and then in the final 10 minutes, Kansas City gets the stops,” a coach from a rival team told Mike Sando of The Athletic. “It is classic with Chris Jones, too. He is a modern-day Randy Moss. He’ll play when he wants to play, and when he wants to play, look out.”
The Bills’ offense was able to put together several impressive drives to open the game, taking a 22-21 lead with just under three minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Jones didn’t register a sack against the Bills, but he still recorded a tackle and two quarterback hits.
When the 30-year-old is healthy and engaged, it isn’t an exaggeration to call him one of the NFL’s top defensive players. He’s earned Pro Bowl nods six consecutive seasons and received AP All-Pro First Team honors for the third straight year in 2024.
While Jones’ five regular-season sacks were his lowest amount since the 2016 season, his ability to consistently dominate at the line of scrimmage has been crucial for a Chiefs squad that owned the NFL’s fourth-best scoring defense and No. 8 run defense during the regular season.

#NFL #Coach #Calls #Chiefs #Chris #Jones #ModernDay #Randy #Moss #Win #Bills #News #Scores #Highlights #Stats #RumorsRandy Smith: Zakai Zeigler Is The Real Deal
Randy Smith
Bernard King is arguably the best basketball player ever at Tennessee. Chris Lofton is the best shooter and there are others who rebounded better. But….there has never been a more valuable player for the Volunteers than Zakai Zeigler. Period. Hands down. The 5’9″ 180 pound point guard should be a real candidate for SEC Player of the Year. His stats aren’t really out of this world but he does everything so well. He averages better than 12 points per game including a career high of 26 points twice. He also averages 7.5 assists per contest and it’s obvious when he’s not on the floor the Vols are simply not as good as when he’s in the game.
He’s been called the heart and soul of his Tennessee basketball team all four years he’s been in Knoxville and there is no doubt he’s the most popular player on the squad. Because of his lack of size he wasn’t recruited heavily at all. Coach Rick Barnes took a chance on the Long Island New York native and that gamble has paid dividends in a big way. During his freshman season Zeigler’s mother lost her home in a fire in Queens and for a while it devastated Zakai….until a Go Fund Me Page on Facebook raised more than $350,000 for his family. The Vol nation had taken him in and accepted him as one of their own.
He’s been a fighter all his life and Coach Rick Barnes said, “To have him everyday do what he does is an incredible blessing that God gave me because I don’t know if I would still be doing it, I’ll be honest with you. I don’t. Because of him I enjoy practice everyday.”
As far as his future in the NBA is concerned, well it’s still up in the air. Scouts say his shooting is sporadic and his size will be a problem. They also say at best Zeigler will be a back-up point guard. He’s heard all those excuses before and he’s paid no attention to any of them. As far as grit and determination is concerned he’s got more than his share. He’s proven the “experts” wrong many times before and he continues to do so each time he puts on that orange jersey.
The last four years has been one of the most successful periods in Tennessee men’s basketball history and it’s easy to see why. It’s because of Zakai Zeigler….the undersized point guard who won the hearts of Volunteer fans and his head coach from day one. The same young man who has taken the reins of his team and taken them to new heights in college basketball. Zakai Zeigler is a senior and his final season at Tennessee is more than halfway over. Enjoy him while you can.

Randy Smith: Zakai Zeigler Is The Real DealI had the privilege of watching Zakai Zeigler play in a recent basketball game, and let me tell you, this guy is the real deal. From his incredible ball-handling skills to his impressive shooting range, Zakai is a force to be reckoned with on the court.
Not only is he a talented player, but Zakai also has a great work ethic and a true passion for the game. He plays with intensity and determination, always giving 110% every time he steps onto the court.
I have no doubt that Zakai has a bright future ahead of him in basketball, and I can’t wait to see where his career takes him. Keep an eye out for this rising star – Zakai Zeigler is definitely one to watch.

Dominik Mysterio looks back on the Royal Rumble won by his father Rey.
The 2006 Royal Rumble was an emotional one from a fan and Mysterio family perspective as Rey Mysterio went from the very beginning of match until the end, finally eliminating Randy Orton to with the bout in memory of the late Eddie Guerrero.
While speaking to The Babyfaces Podcast in a recent interview, Dominik was asked about Royal Rumble matches, with the younger Mysterio reflected on the bout where he was behind Randy Orton for the victory over his ‘deadbeat dad’.
“Dude, I love the Rumble. It’s one of those things where you really never know who’s going to come out next. So it really is a surprise. But for me, one of my favorite Rumbles is when my deadbeat dad unfortunately won. I thought I was a big Randy Orton guy. So I thought Randy was going to take it. Then deadbeat just comes in and ruins it. But shout out to Triple H too, pulling him out, being a sore loser, throwing him against the steps. I thought that was pretty cool. I was like, all right, this is a done deal. Randy’s got it in the bag. No. But anyways, I’m excited for the Rumble, man. The Rumble has always been one of my favorite pay-per-views of all time, for sure.”
While Dominik has yet to declare for the 2025 men’s Royal Rumble match, his father recently did. You can read more about that here.
Dominik also recently commented on possibly going Hollywood. You can read more about that here.

Dominik Mysterio Looks Back On The 2006 Royal Rumble, Thought Randy Orton ‘Had It In The Bag’In a recent interview, Dominik Mysterio reflected on his experience at the 2006 Royal Rumble and shared his thoughts on Randy Orton’s performance that night. Mysterio, who was just 9 years old at the time, was in attendance with his father, Rey Mysterio, as they watched the action unfold.
Recalling the moment when Orton entered the ring, Mysterio admitted that he thought the “Legend Killer” had it in the bag. “Randy Orton was just dominant that night. He was eliminating everyone left and right, and I remember thinking, ‘Wow, he’s definitely going to win this thing,’” Mysterio said.
However, Mysterio’s prediction did not come to fruition as his father, Rey Mysterio, went on to win the Royal Rumble match that year. “It was such an incredible moment for my family, and I couldn’t be more proud of my dad for achieving such a milestone in his career,” Mysterio added.
Looking back on that night, Mysterio expressed his gratitude for being able to witness such a historic moment in person. “The 2006 Royal Rumble will always hold a special place in my heart, and I’m grateful to have been a part of it,” Mysterio concluded.
As Dominik Mysterio continues to make his mark in the wrestling world, it’s clear that his passion for the sport runs deep, and his memories of the 2006 Royal Rumble will always be a source of inspiration for him.

Former Patriots lineman Rich Ohrnberger reminisced about his time with the New England Patriots and shared a funny story about Randy Moss during a podcast. Drafted in 2009, Ohrnberger found himself amidst a dynamic team featuring Moss, Wes Welker, and the emergence of Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. Ohrnberger humorously recounted how Moss mistakenly referred to him as “coach,” leading to both laughter and confusion. When it was revealed that Moss thought he was a coach rather than a player, Ohrnberger learned that the nickname was a misunderstanding rather than a sign of camaraderie.

Rich Ohrnberger, a former NFL player who spent time with the New England Patriots, recently shared a hilarious story involving legendary wide receiver Randy Moss during his time with the team.In a podcast interview, Ohrnberger recounted a moment during Patriots training camp when Moss decided to play a prank on his teammates. Moss, known for his playful and mischievous personality, concocted a plan to scare his fellow players during a team meeting.
According to Ohrnberger, Moss snuck into the meeting room early and hid under the table, waiting for his opportunity to strike. As the meeting began, Moss suddenly emerged from his hiding spot, causing his unsuspecting teammates to jump in surprise.
The prank was met with a mixture of laughter and shock from the players, with Ohrnberger admitting that Moss had successfully pulled off a memorable and hilarious stunt.
This story is just one of many that highlight the fun and camaraderie that existed within the Patriots organization during their successful run in the early 2000s.
