That didn’t stop them from taking a swipe at Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, however.
After the Raptors scored a big upset win over the reigning NBA champions, the club’s social media team not-so-subtly trolled one Boston’s superstar.
The team’s official account posted a photo of retired NBA star Brandon Jennings and a screencap of the game’s boxscore.

The caption was simply a four-leaf clover emoji.
Why the photo of Jennings? He’s embroiled in a feud with Tatum after calling the four-time all-NBA player “soft.”
Tatum and Jennings, who retired in 2019, have engaged in an online battle over the past week on social media.
While on Gilbert Arenas’ podcast earlier this month, Jennings asked if Tatum was the “softest Boston Celtics superstar ever,” while pointing out that Jaylen Brown was named NBA Finals MVP for the team.

“If you’re so tough, why you didn’t get Finals MVP last year?” Jennings said. “Why’d you let your running mate (Brown) do it?”
He slightly walked back the comment, saying he would be more afraid of Brown on the court than Tatum.
“Not afraid, more just like, it’s going to be tough today. Damn, I got to be on my s— today,” he added.
Tatum responded with an Instagram post last week that included several highlight clips and a meme caption reading: “SoFtesT SuPeRstar in CeLtiC HiStoRy.”

Tatum also addressed it in a postgame news conference after losing to the Sacramento Kings last Friday.
The five-time all-star clarified that he’s not mad, but he “had some time (Thursday)” to address it.
He said he wasn’t surprised that the noise around his play hasn’t gone away after winning a title and an Olympic gold medal last summer in Paris.

“Surprised? No. I think it comes with being one of the best players in the league,” Tatum said. “The more you accomplish, the more it gives people the opportunity to nitpick at things. If I wasn’t who I was or had a certain status, people would probably not talk about me as much. But I’m not the first superstar in league history to deal with this. It comes with it.”
Jennings stirred the pot again on Tuesday, arguing Tatum isn’t a top-five Celtic of all time.

Jennings added that he would fear Brown on the hardwood more than Tatum, although the latter is generally thought to be the team’s best player.

The ongoing verbal clash involving former NBA guard Brandon Jennings and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum welcomed another member Wednesday — the Toronto Raptors.

Magic’s Jalen Suggs Leaves Game vs. Toronto Raptors in Second Quarter with Back Spasm
Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs left Friday night’s game versus the Toronto Raptors in the second quarter with a non-contact injury.
With his team up 56-41 with just over three minutes to play in the first half, Suggs went for a steal and missed, falling to the floor. But instead of popping up off the court, the fourth-year pro didn’t make an attempt to get up.
Instead, he was grabbing at his lower back as he laid on his side. After a missed shot, the Magic called timeout as Suggs remained down on the court in the same position.
His Magic teammates began pouring onto the floor and surrounded him, and they were joined by a few on-looking Raptors players as well. With broadcast cameras focused in on him, Orlando teammates began lifting Suggs off the floor before it became evident that he was in too much pain to move.
A wheelchair was brought onto the floor to help the former Gonzaga product off the floor. With a towel draped over his head, Magic VP of player performance and wellness Arnie Kander wheeled him into the team’s tunnel.
Cole Anthony started the second half for the Magic instead of Suggs. Officially, the team ruled him out for the remainder of Friday’s game with back spasms.

Magic’s Jalen Suggs leaves game against Raptors in wheelchair after apparent back injury
TORONTO — Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs was taken off the court in a wheel chair because of an apparent back injury late in the first half Friday night against the Toronto Raptors.
Suggs stumbled playing defense without any contact and fell over clutching at his lower back. He stayed down for several minutes before being helped to his feet and into the wheelchair.
Suggs covered his face with a towel as he was wheeled off the court.
The fifth overall pick in the 2021 draft, Suggs came in averaging 16.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists for the banged-up Magic. He scored six points in 13 minutes before leaving.
Orlando was already without forward Paolo Banchero and forward Franz Wagner, with both recovering from torn right oblique injuries. They were among six Magic players not available Friday.

Is Kristaps Porzingis Playing? Full Celtics vs Raptors Injury Report
The Boston Celtics have been in a rut. They’ve lost three of their last four games, but on Tuesday, they’ll look to head into the new year on the right foot.
The Celtics will take on the Toronto Raptors on New Year’s Eve, who have lost 10 consecutive games. Boston will look to take that 11; however, the Celtics will be without their top center for this contest, Kristaps Porziņģis.
Porziņģis, who was listed as questionable due to an ankle issue, is now ruled out.

The 29-year-old has missed two straight games due to a left ankle sprain, and will now miss his third straight game. With Porziņģis’s absence, veteran center Al Horford has played an expanded role.
Even if Porziņģis would have gotten the green light Tuesday, he would have faced some limitations given his checkered injury history.
The former lottery pick has only been limited to 11 games this season, but he has been solid in his outings. He is averaging 18.3 points per game, 6.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.5 blocks while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 32.8 percent from three in 27.2 minutes of action.
The last time we saw Porziņģis on the course was on Christmas Day when the Philadelphia 76ers lost to their rivals. He was limited in that contest, scoring nine points, three assists, and two rebounds while shooting 37 percent from the field.
Porziņģis will have missed 22 of Boston’s 33 games this season (after Tuesday’s contest) as he recovered from that offseason surgery to repair the rare foot injury he suffered during the NBA Finals. He was recovering all throughout the offseason and some of the season.
The Celtics will look to get the win without Porzingis, and they have good odds to do so, as they are -16.5 favorites. The Celtics have gone 21-7 against Eastern Conference opponents. Boston scores 119.5 points while outscoring opponents by 9.4 points per game.
The Raptors have gone 4-14 against Eastern Conference opponents. Toronto is third in the Eastern Conference with 17.2 fast break points per game, led by guard RJ Barrett, who is averaging 5.1.
The Celtics have had a tough stretch lately, holding a 5-5 record in their last 10 games. In those games, they are averaging 117.2 points, 48.8 rebounds, 25.5 assists, 7.3 steals, and 5.5 blocks per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field. Their opponents have averaged 109.8 points per game.

Raptors, Magic in search of much-needed momentum
The Toronto Raptors are out to win consecutive games for just the third time this season when they host the Orlando Magic on Friday night.
With Immanuel Quickley (elbow) back after missing 22 games, Toronto ended an 11-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 130-113 home victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Quickley had 21 points and 15 assists while Scottie Barnes had 33 points and 13 rebounds.
Orlando has dropped three of four after a 105-96 road loss to the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.
The Raptors won consecutive games Nov. 18 and 21 to end a seven-game losing streak. They also won back-to-back games Dec. 1 and 3 before going into their 11-game slide. All four of the victories have come at home.
In ending their most recent losing streak, the Raptors shot season bests of 59.1 percent (52-for-88) from the field and 50 percent (16-for-32) from 3-point range. The Raptors also scored a season-best 33 fastbreak points against 21 by Brooklyn.
Quickley’s presence was felt in rapid fashion.
“He’s got a lot of skills but he’s a point guard,” Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic said. “When he’s bringing the ball up the floor, he is calling plays on the run, recognizing situations. … He’s doing a really good job and he’s my extension on the floor when he plays out there.”
Said Barnes: “The intensity that he brought to the floor on both ends of the floor, it was great. Something that we really missed, and we needed. His playmaking ability, his ability just to get to the paint, his shooting, all that we needed it, his leadership. He was unbelievable, talking throughout the entire game. So, you know, we really missed it.”
The Raptors will play the middle game of a three-game homestand. They are 7-11 at home and just 1-15 on the road.

Orlando trailed Detroit by 18 points on Wednesday and rallied with a 26-19 advantage in the third quarter. Orlando pulled to within 93-90 with 6:26 remaining before running out of gas down the stretch.
“They picked their pace back up,” said the Magic’s Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who scored 21 points. “They were aggressive the whole game.”
Caldwell-Pope, who scored 9.1 points per game, had five against Brooklyn on Sunday on 2-for-10 shooting from the field. He was 8 of 11 against the Pistons on Wednesday, including 4 of 6 on 3-point attempts.
“Just being aggressive,” Caldwell-Pope said. “It’s 2025. I told myself just be a little bit more aggressive on the court, shoot the ball when I’m open, try not to pass up as many shots as I have been doing and just continue to be me and get better.”
Jalen Suggs led Orlando with 24 points at Detroit and Wendell Carter Jr. added 15 points. Suggs missed the second half of the 102-101 win over the Nets with a sprained right wrist.
“At this point, everything hurts,” Suggs said. “But it’s part of the journey of an NBA season. So, I’ll get some work done, take care of it with the medical staff, get ready to play in Toronto. It’s all you can do, really.”
Orlando’s Paolo Banchero, who has played just five games because of an abdominal injury, has gone through some light contact work at practice but remains out, as does Franz Wagner (oblique).
The teams will be meeting for the first time this season. Orlando was 3-0 against Toronto last season.

BOSTON — — Jayson Tatum scored 18 of his 23 points in Boston’s dominant third quarter, and the Celtics routed Toronto 125-71 on Tuesday, extending the Raptors’ losing streak to 11 games.
The Celtics outscored the Raptors 45-18 in the third, using an onslaught of 3-pointers to pull away and close out 2024 with a blowout. Boston made 10 of 12 shots from beyond the arc in the period. Tatum hit four 3s and Jrue Holiday and Sam Hauser each hit two as Boston shot 74% for the period.

Scottie Barnes led Toronto with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Jakob Poeltl grabbed 13 rebounds for the Raptors, who went 2-11 in the month of December.
