  • Milan reach verbal agreement for Joao Felix loan from Chelsea

Milan have reached a verbal agreement for the loan signing of Joao Felix from Chelsea.

Milan are set to cover the 25-year-old’s full salary as part of a straight loan deal without a buy option, which will also include a loan fee package worth €5.5million.

Chelsea are happy for the Portuguese to move before the window closes to allow him to experience more first-team football, having started only three Premier League games this season. He prefers a move to Serie A over other European leagues.

Aston Villa were interested in a move for the 25-year-old, with manager Unai Emery wanting to sign him in the summer.

However, The Athletic reported on Sunday a move to Villa was increasingly unlikely due to their concerns over a permanent transfer fee.

Villa have already signed forwards Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund and Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United this month, and the club have agreed a deal to sign Marco Asensio on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. Forward Jhon Duran, meanwhile, departed in January to join Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.

Joao Felix would be Milan’s second arrival of the window following the signing of right-back Kyle Walker on loan from Manchester City.

Sergio Conceicao was appointed as the club’s new head coach in December after the dismissal of Paulo Fonseca. Milan are eighth in Serie A and progressed to the Champions League knockout play-offs, where they will play Feyenoord.

Joao Felix joined Chelsea from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth approximately £44.5million ($58m) in August. It marked his a second spell at the club after spending the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Stamford Bridge.

The Portugal international signed a six-year contract with Chelsea with the option of an additional 12 months.

Joao Felix has made 20 appearances for Chelsea this season in all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing two assists. However, he has found Premier League minutes hard to come by, only appearing in 12 games. He was not involved in the matchday squad for last weekend’s defeat to Manchester City.

AC Milan have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea for the loan transfer of Portuguese wonderkid Joao Felix. The 21-year-old forward is set to join the Serie A giants for the upcoming season, with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the loan spell.

Felix, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in a big-money move last summer, has struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup under Thomas Tuchel. The talented youngster is keen to get more playing time and develop his skills at Milan, where he will have the opportunity to shine in one of Europe’s top leagues.

Milan are looking to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season, and Felix’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to their squad. The Rossoneri are hoping that the Portuguese starlet will be able to make a significant impact and help them challenge for the Serie A title next season.

With the agreement now in place, it is only a matter of time before Joao Felix officially completes his move to Milan. Fans of the Italian club will be eagerly anticipating seeing the talented forward in action and hoping that he can help lead them to success in the upcoming campaign.

  • Investor With $200K From Selling Rental Property Seeks Advice On SCHD, QQQM And VOO – Can He Reach $1 Million In 10 Years With 70% Growth?

Benzinga and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue on some items through the links below.

Investing involves balancing risk, reward and personal goals and for many, index funds like SCHD, QQQM and VOO have become an important part of their portfolios.

Whether it’s SCHD’s focus on high-yield dividend-paying enterprises, VOO’s all-around coverage of the S&P 500 or QQQM’s focus on tech companies, these index funds provide investors with diversified exposure to the stock market.

Choosing which fund to invest in usually depends on the investor’s goals, but what happens when you’re at a crossroads and don’t know where to allocate a significant sum? That’s exactly the impasse one Reddit member found himself in.

    Don’t Miss:

The poster, who’s been investing for several years, is selling a rental property he bought for $110,000. Now, with the rental evaluated at $245,000, he thinks he will remain with $200,000 to invest after accounting for all the expenses related to selling the house.

While the rental property generated $1,100 monthly, the management and maintenance issues made him want to give up renting the property. His goal? To transition to the stock market, focus on growth and dividend-paying investments.

“Just been seeing the popularity of SCHD, QQQM and VOO a lot and wondering if I could get a million in 10 years or less. I’m sure I can handle some risk but I was wondering if I should be dividend-heavy or growth-heavy for my goals,” he said.

Trending: Coinbase’s latest promo gets you up to $200 in crypto (Seriously!) — Here’s everything you need to know to take advantage of this offer.

Besides the rental profits, the investor has $40K in a HYSA and has been maxing out his Roth IRA in the last three years. Now, he’s turned to Reddit’s r/dividends community to seek guidance on whether his strategy is a good one or whether he should consider a better one.

Let’s explore the strategies Reddit investors shared in the thread.

Is $1 Million in 10 Years Possible With The VOO, QQQM, SCHD Strategy? Reddit’s Advice

    Balance Risk and Investment Objectives

Many commenters highlighted the imperative need to assess the investor’s willingness to take risk, especially when considering his five-to-ten-year time horizon.

Are you an investor who recently sold a rental property and now has $200K to invest? Are you considering putting your money into SCHD, QQQM, and VOO in the hopes of reaching $1 million in 10 years with a 70% growth rate?

If so, you’re not alone. Many investors are looking for ways to grow their wealth quickly and effectively. However, investing in the stock market comes with risks and uncertainties, especially when aiming for such ambitious goals.

Before making any investment decisions, it’s important to do your research and consider your risk tolerance. SCHD, QQQM, and VOO are all popular exchange-traded funds (ETFs) with different investment strategies and risk profiles. SCHD focuses on high-quality dividend-paying companies, QQQM tracks the performance of the Nasdaq 100 Index, and VOO mirrors the S&P 500 Index.

While these ETFs have the potential for growth, it’s important to remember that past performance is not indicative of future results. A 70% growth rate over 10 years is certainly possible, but it’s also a very aggressive target that may not be achievable. It’s crucial to have a diversified investment portfolio and to consider factors such as market volatility, economic conditions, and your own financial goals.

Consulting with a financial advisor can help you create a personalized investment plan that aligns with your risk tolerance and financial objectives. They can provide guidance on asset allocation, risk management, and investment strategies to help you reach your long-term financial goals.

Investing in SCHD, QQQM, and VOO can be a solid foundation for your investment portfolio, but it’s essential to approach it with caution and realistic expectations. With proper planning and a disciplined approach, you may be able to grow your $200K into $1 million in 10 years, but it’s important to be prepared for potential challenges along the way.

  • Girona 1-2 Arsenal: Ethan Nwaneri shines as Gunners reach Champions League last 16

Arsenal scored two goals in four first-half minutes as they came from behind to beat Girona to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League.

The Gunners were all-but through to the last 16 of the competition going into the match but build up to the game was dominated with talk about their approach for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.

Girona looked like they were about to pull off a shock result when they took the lead in the 28th minute.

Neto, making his Arsenal debut in goal in place of the injured David Raya, raced out of his box and Arnaut Danjuma curled the ball past him into the empty net.

Arsenal drew level with a penalty 10 minutes later through Jorginho after Thomas Partey was brought down in the area by Arnau Martinez.

The Gunners were then ahead just before half time when 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri cut in from the right hand side and curled an effort into the bottom corner.

Girona thought they had scored a second and levelled the match when Cristhian Stuani tapped in from close range in the second half but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Arsenal had a chance to add a third in stoppage time but Raheem Sterling had a penalty saved by Pau Lopez.

The result leaves Arsenal on 19 points and comfortably in the top eight heading into the knockout rounds.

Mikel Arteta has spoken about wanting to take his side away for a mid-season break and as Arsenal will not be involved in the play-off games in February, there’s a 10 day gap in their schedule where he may be able to that.

Arsenal secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Girona in the Champions League group stage, with young midfielder Ethan Nwaneri putting in a standout performance to help the Gunners reach the last 16 of the competition.

Nwaneri, who has been making a name for himself in the Arsenal youth setup, opened the scoring with a stunning long-range strike that left the Girona goalkeeper rooted to his spot. The 18-year-old showed great composure and skill throughout the match, dictating play in midfield and linking up well with his teammates.

Despite Girona equalizing in the second half, Arsenal regained the lead with a goal from veteran striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gunners held on for the win, securing their spot in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Manager Mikel Arteta was full of praise for Nwaneri after the match, highlighting his maturity and talent on the ball. The young midfielder has been tipped for a bright future at Arsenal, and his performance against Girona only solidified that belief.

With Nwaneri’s emergence as a key player in the first team, Arsenal fans have reason to be optimistic about their team’s chances in the Champions League this season. The Gunners will be looking to make a deep run in the competition, and with players like Nwaneri in top form, they have every chance of doing so.

  • Felix Auger-Aliassime sinks Buyunchaokete to reach second straight semi-final in Montpellier | ATP Tour

    Match Report

Felix fires into Montpellier SFs, joins Sinner & Alcaraz in elite group

Canadian faces De Jong, Rublev reaches 42nd ATP Tour semi-final

    January 31, 2025

    JB Autissier/Open Occitanie

Felix Auger-Aliassime advances to the semi-finals at the Open Occitanie in Montpellier for a second consecutive year.
    By Jerome Coombe

Felix Auger-Aliassime continued his assured start to the 2025 season on Friday at the Open Occitanie in Montpellier.

The second seed at the indoor hard-court ATP 250 defeated Buyunchaokete 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals for a second consecutive year. By advancing to the last four in Montpellier, Auger-Aliassime joins Jannik Sinner (33) and Carlos Alcaraz (31) as the only players born since 2000 to reach 30 tour-level semi-finals. The 24-year-old, who won his sixth ATP Tour title at the Adelaide International earlier this month, improves to 8-2 in 2025.

“My game is more disciplined,” said Auger-Aliassime when asked about his new approach to the 2025 campaign. “I feel like last year I had some brilliant shots but also moments where I made a lot of mistakes. But now, two straight-sets wins, [I am] more solid and I am happy with that because that’s the goal. Hopefully I go one more step and get to the finals on Sunday.”

With his 51st indoor win since the start of the 2022 season, Auger-Aliassime extended his Tour lead ahead of Holger Rune (42) and Sinner (40). The former World No. 6 was imperious on serve throughout his maiden Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting with Buyunchaokete, during which he won 86 per cent (30/35) points behind his first delivery, according to Infosys ATP Stats, and fired 11 aces.

    It All Adds Up

Auger-Aliassime will next face Jesper de Jong, who stunned countryman and fifth seed Tallon Griekspoor 7-6(5), 6-4 after one hour, 46 minutes to reach his maiden tour-level semi-final.

“We know each other well, it’s never easy… but I was very hungry to play him,” said De Jong, the No. 131 in the PIF ATP Rankings. “He is No. 1 in the Netherlands, the pressure is on him. I had nothing to lose so I was ready and looking forward to it.”

Competing in his first ATP Tour quarter-final, De Jong showed few signs of nerves. The 24-year-old saved each of the six break points he faced in the first set before producing a stunning backhand pass at 3/3 in the tie-break to move clear. In the second set, an out-of-sorts Griekspoor was unable to limit his unforced error count, which ultimately rose to 30.

On the other side of the draw, Andrey Rublev advanced to the semi-finals after Nikoloz Basilashvili was forced to retire with the top seed leading 5-2 in the first set. With his second win of the 2025 season, the 27-year-old advanced to his 42nd ATP Tour semi-final, and first since reaching the ATP Masters 1000 Montreal final in August last year.

“I played many great matches with Niko, he won many of them and I won some of them as well,” said Rublev, who now leads their Lexus ATP Head2Head series 4-3. “He’s a really great player and a really nice person, so I hope that it’s nothing serious and that he will recover for the next week.”

With a title run in Montpellier, Rublev would become the fourth man to win his first 17 tour-level titles all at different events in ATP Tour history (since 1990) after Medvedev (20), Stich (18) and Ivanisevic (17).

Rublev will next face American qualifier Aleksandar Kovacevic, who upset two-time champion Alexander Bublik 6-3, 6-2. Kovacevic, 26, won 84 per cent of his first-serve points and fended off all eight break points he faced. The former University of Illinois standout is into his second tour-level semi-final and first since 2022 Seoul. Kovacevic is up to No. 83 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.

Felix Auger-Aliassime continued his impressive run at the Open Sud de France in Montpellier, defeating Buyunchaokete in straight sets to reach his second consecutive semi-final at the tournament.

The Canadian rising star showcased his exceptional talent and determination on the court, overpowering his opponent with his powerful serves and aggressive baseline game. Auger-Aliassime’s consistency and composure under pressure were evident throughout the match, as he maintained control and capitalized on his opportunities to secure a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

With this win, Auger-Aliassime advances to the semi-finals of the ATP Tour event in Montpellier for the second year in a row, further solidifying his status as one of the top young talents in men’s tennis. His impressive performance in this tournament serves as a testament to his potential and ability to compete at the highest level.

Fans and tennis enthusiasts alike can look forward to watching Auger-Aliassime continue his pursuit of glory in Montpellier as he aims to reach the final and potentially claim his first ATP Tour title. Stay tuned for more updates on Felix Auger-Aliassime’s exciting journey in the world of professional tennis.

  • Mathys Tel transfer: Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich reach verbal agreement on £50m deal | Football News

Tottenham and Bayern Munich have reached a verbal agreement on a £50m transfer for Mathys Tel.

However, the player has not yet made a final decision on whether he will accept Spurs’ offer.

He has also not decided whether he wants to go on loan or permanently, having previously been determined to breakthrough at Bayern.

Spurs face rival interest for Tel from Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli , who are managed by German Matthias Jaissle.

Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player

Jamie Redknapp reveals he spoke to Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane about team-mate Mathys Tel as the striker is attracting interest from Tottenham and other Premier League clubs

Manchester United have made tentative enquiries about Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel. However, any potential deal is likely to depend on departures at Old Trafford.

Chelsea and Aston Villa also remain interested in Tel.

But Spurs are hoping more regular game time will persuade him to join them over others.

At £50m, he would become Bayern’s most expensive ever sale.

Stade Rennais – Tel’s former club – have a share of the sell-on in the region of 10 to 15 per cent.

Analysis: Why Tel is in demand

    Sky Sports’ Nick Wright:

Tel has been a peripheral figure for Bayern Munich this season, playing only 344 minutes across their Bundesliga and Champions League campaigns without scoring. But at 19, he remains a thrilling talent with plenty to offer and plenty of room for improvement.

Mathys Tel has largely been used as an impact sub at Bayern Munich so far in his career
    Image:
Mathys Tel has largely been used as an impact sub at Bayern Munich so far in his career

He demonstrated his immense potential last season, contributing nine goals and six assists across the Bundesliga and Champions League, despite mostly featuring as a substitute, and averaging an eye-catching 1.15 goal involvements per 90 minutes.

Context is important, of course. Many of those substitute appearances came at points in games where Bayern were already several goals up. But his talent is not in doubt. It is what convinced Bayern to pay roughly £23m to land him at the age of only 17 in 2022.

Tel is quick, strong in the air and, crucially, an accomplished finisher. His versatility is another asset.

Mathys Tel has played in various positions for Bayern Munich
    Image:
Mathys Tel has played in various positions for Bayern Munich

As shown in the graphic above, Tel’s minutes at Bayern have been split across different positions. He has played the highest share of minutes on the left, where he is able to cut in on his right foot. But he is also adept with his left foot and has also been used on the right, as a central striker, and even in midfield.

He would have to adapt to new surroundings in the Premier League, of course. Hitting the ground running would be a challenge mid-season. But it is easy to understand the interest, even if he would not come cheaply to any side looking to sign him permanently.

‘Tel a great character but he needs minutes’

    Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg:

“He is a great character. He is 19 years old but he has learned to speak German very fast and very well.

“The fans love him. He is always friendly. He says hello to everyone working at the club and at the training ground, and to every fan.

“The fans cannot understand why he might leave Bayern but there is an understanding of the fact that he needs regular playing time.

“He is a fantastic guy, open-minded and always smiling, but he needs to choose the right club right now because this is a very important step in his career.

“He is not a regular player at Bayern. He is far away from that. Now, he has to gain minutes.”

Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich have reportedly reached a verbal agreement on a £50m deal for the transfer of Mathys Tel. The highly-rated defender is set to make the move to the Premier League after impressing in the Bundesliga.

The 23-year-old has been a key player for Bayern Munich this season, helping them to a strong finish in the league. His performances have caught the eye of several top clubs, but it seems that Tottenham Hotspur have won the race for his signature.

Tel is known for his pace, strength, and ability to read the game well. He will provide a much-needed boost to Tottenham’s defense, which has struggled at times this season.

The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming days, with Tel set to undergo a medical and sign a long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur. Fans will be excited to see the young defender in action next season, as he looks to make an impact in the Premier League.

  • Sources — Blue Jays reach deal with free agent Max Scherzer

Free-agent right-hander Max Scherzer and the Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a one-year, $15.5 million contract, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Thursday.

The future Hall of Famer, who turned 40 last July, is coming off an injury-plagued season with the Texas Rangers in which he made just nine starts and went 2-4 with a 3.95 ERA. He didn’t make his first start until June 23 following surgery in the offseason to repair a herniated disk in his back. He then missed all of August with shoulder fatigue, returning to make one start in September before a hamstring injury ended his season.

Once a durable workhorse who made 30-plus starts each season from 2009 through 2018, Scherzer has now missed significant time each of the past three seasons, making 23 starts in 2022 while missing time with an oblique strain and making 27 starts in 2023 due to a strained shoulder and back spasms.

When he did pitch, the stuff was diminished, even from the previous season. His fastball averaged 92.5 mph, the lowest of his career and down from 93.7 mph in 2023. His strikeout rate dropped to 22.6%, down from 28.0%, and well below his 2021-22 season, when he was over 30%. He allowed a .724 OPS, higher than the MLB average of .711.

Scherzer was a free agent for the third time in his career. Ahead of the 2015 season, he signed a seven-year, $210 million contract with the Washington Nationals that proved to be one of the best signings ever for a free-agent pitcher. Scherzer won the second and third Cy Young Awards of his career, finished in the top three in three other seasons and helped the Nationals win the World Series in 2019, going 3-0 with a 2.40 ERA that postseason, and started Game 7 of the World Series while pitching through a neck injury.

He was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021 in the final year of that contract and then signed a three-year deal, $130 million deal with the New York Mets, the highest annual average value for a player at the time (matched a year later by Justin Verlander and then surpassed by Shohei Ohtani in 2024). The Mets made the playoffs that first year as Scherzer posted a 2.23 ERA, but he was traded to the Rangers in 2023 — and helped them to a World Series title, although injuries limited him to just 9.2 innings in three postseason starts (he did pitch three scoreless innings in his one World Series start).

The eight-time All-Star is 216-112 in his career with the three Cy Young Awards and 75.4 WAR. Among active pitchers, only Verlander has more wins and only Verlander and Clayton Kershaw have a higher WAR.

ESPN’s David Schoenfield contributed to this report.

This blockbuster signing is sure to bolster the Blue Jays’ starting rotation and make them a serious contender in the upcoming season. • Tottenham 3-0 Elfsborg: Mikey Moore seals win as Spurs reach Europa League last 16

Tottenham overcame yet another injury setback to reach the last 16 of the Europa League as their new generation shone in a win over Elfsborg.

Spurs, who were already without 12 players because of injury and ineligibility, lost substitute defender Radu Dragusin when he went down hurt in the second half with the game goalless.

But substitute Dane Scarlett, 20, lifted the mood by heading the home side into a 70th-minute lead before 19-year-old fellow substitute Damola Ajayi made it 2-0.

Seventeen-year-old winger Mikey Moore sealed victory with his first goal for the club in the fourth minute of stoppage time, a wonderful low finish after a powerful run.

Spurs had struggled to find a way through the Swedish team’s stubborn defence in the first half.

Moore went closest before half-time after clever play by Son Heung-min, but Isak Pettersson produced a reflex save to frustrate the home side.

Elfsborg – playing their 16th game in the competition after starting in the first qualifying round – went close themselves through Jalal Abdullai in the second half before Scarlett set Spurs on their way.

Spurs finish the league phase in fourth place with 17 points and can now concentrate on domestic matters until the last-16 stage in March after avoiding a play-off tie in February.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will face one of Real Sociedad, Galatasaray, AZ Alkmaar or Midtjylland next in the competition.

    More to follow.

Tottenham cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Elfsborg in the Europa League, with Mikey Moore putting the icing on the cake with a late goal to seal the win. The result sees Spurs progress to the last 16 of the competition, maintaining their impressive run in Europe. Stay tuned for more updates on their journey in the Europa League. #Tottenham #EuropaLeague #MikeyMoore #Last16

  • Tigers, reliever Tommy Kahnle reach one-year, $7.75M deal

The Detroit Tigers have signed right-handed reliever Tommy Kahnle to a one-year contract Wednesday, fortifying a bullpen that was at the forefront of the team’s surge to a postseason spot last year.

The deal is for $7.75 million, sources told ESPN.

Kahnle, 35, is coming off a strong season with the New York Yankees in which he posted a 2.11 ERA in 42⅔ innings. Over the past two seasons, Kahnle has a 2.38 ERA, the 11th best in MLB among pitchers with at least 80 innings.

In Kahnle, the Tigers add a reliever who pitches backward more than anyone in baseball. Last season, Kahnle threw his changeup 73.1% of the time — nearly 20 percentage points higher than any other pitcher. At one point in the 2024 postseason, Kahnle threw 61 consecutive changeups.

When Kahnle is healthy — an issue in past seasons — the pitch is a devastating complement to a 94 mph fastball and a show-me slider. Kahnle struck out 46 against 19 walks in 2024 while allowing five home runs. Over his 10-year career, Kahnle is 10-14 with a 3.47 ERA and 452 strikeouts, 173 walks and 40 home runs allowed in 373⅔ innings.

None of Detroit’s deep relief core relies heavily on a changeup, giving manager A.J. Hinch a solid complementary arm as he aims to piece together games. With injuries hampering their rotation last fall, Hinch relied heavily on a bullpen that threw a major-league-high 141⅔ innings in September and was third in baseball with a 2.41 ERA.

The Tigers, who on Aug. 10 were 55-63, surged to a 33-13 finish and ousted American League West champion Houston before falling to AL Central rival Cleveland in the division series.

Kahnle’s signing continued an active period for relief pitchers, with the Los Angeles Dodgers signing right-hander Kirby Yates to a one-year, $13 million contract and right-hander Ryne Stanek agreeing to a one-year, $4.5 million deal with the New York Mets.

Plenty of solid relief options remain on the market, including right-handers Carlos Estevez, Kenley Jansen, David Robertson, Kyle Finnegan and Adam Ottavino, and left-handers Tim Hill, Brooks Raley, Andrew Chafin, Jalen Beeks and Colin Poche.

In a surprising move, the Detroit Tigers have reportedly reached a one-year, $7.75 million deal with reliever Tommy Kahnle. Kahnle, who missed the entire 2021 season due to Tommy John surgery, is expected to bolster the Tigers’ bullpen and provide much-needed depth.

The 32-year-old right-hander has had a solid career thus far, posting a 3.82 ERA and 450 strikeouts in 346.2 innings pitched. Known for his high-velocity fastball and devastating slider, Kahnle has the potential to be a key contributor for the Tigers in 2022.

This signing comes at a crucial time for the Tigers, as they look to build upon their surprising success from last season. With Kahnle now in the mix, Detroit’s bullpen is shaping up to be a formidable unit that could help propel the team to even greater heights.

Tigers fans are surely excited about the addition of Kahnle and are eager to see what he can bring to the team next season. Stay tuned for more updates as the offseason progresses!
